Nineteen Revolutionary War cannons, lost for 240 years in the Savannah River, have been unearthed and restored—marking the largest single find of 18th-century artillery from a naval battle in U.S. history. Discovered in 2021 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during dredging, 17 cannons are now on display at the Savannah History Museum, while two remain unrestored for comparison. Some were still loaded with cannonballs and gunpowder, encrusted with marine life.
