- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo. Episode 148 already. Luna: I know, it's going so fast. And I feel like I'm actually picking up more and more. Lucas: That's the goal. So today, we're adding two more colors to our palette. Luna: Oh, I love colors. Which ones this time? Lucas: brown and gold. In Malay, brown is coklat. Like the chocolate. Luna: Coklat. That's easy to remember — chocolate is brown. Lucas: Exactly. And gold is emas. E-mas. Luna: Emas. Sounds kind of elegant. Lucas: Let's practice them. Say coklat. Luna: Coklat. Lucas: Good. Now emas. Luna: Emas. Lucas: Perfect. So if I hold up a chocolate bar, I can say Coklat itu coklat. Luna: The chocolate is brown. Makes sense. Lucas: And if I have a gold coin, I say Emas itu kuning. Wait, no — gold is yellow, right? But we say emas for the metal. Luna: So emas itu kuning means the gold is yellow? That's a bit confusing. Lucas: It's just a color example. You can say Emas itu mahal if you want — gold is expensive. Luna: Right. Let me try a sentence: Saya suka coklat. I like chocolate. Lucas: Yes! And also Saya suka emas. But let's stick with the colors. Luna: Okay. So how do I say 'the bag is brown'? Lucas: Beg itu coklat. Bag is beg. Luna: Beg itu coklat. Easy. Lucas: And 'the ring is gold'? Ring is cincin. Luna: Cincin itu emas. That sounds nice. Lucas: You got it. Now let's do a quick scene. Imagine we're at a market and I'm selling chocolate. Luna: Okay, I'll be the customer. I want to buy some chocolate. Lucas: Saya ada coklat. Coklat ini sedap. Luna: Berapa harga coklat ini? Lucas: Oh, good question! But we haven't learned pricing yet. For now, just say Saya mahu coklat. Luna: Saya mahu coklat. And then I can say Coklat itu coklat. Lucas: Right, you're describing it. So you'd say Coklat itu coklat, saya mahu. Luna: Coklat itu coklat, saya mahu. That's fun. Lucas: Now let's try a quick review. What's brown? Luna: Coklat. Lucas: Gold? Luna: Emas. Lucas: How do you say 'the chocolate is brown'? Luna: Coklat itu coklat. Lucas: And 'the gold is yellow'? Luna: Emas itu kuning. Lucas: You're nailing it. You know, it feels good when you can describe things in a new language. Luna: It really does. And I've been using Fexingo to practice between episodes — it helps a lot. Lucas: That's great to hear. And if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Malay, there's a simple way to support the show. Luna: Oh yeah, the buy me a coffee thing, right? Lucas: Exactly. If today was worth a coffee to you, that's the link — buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it's a nice way to say thanks if you're enjoying it. No pressure though. Lucas: Right, okay. Let's get back to colors. We have coklat and emas. Let's use them in a few more sentences. Luna: Sure. How about 'I have a brown bag'? Lucas: Saya ada beg coklat. Luna: Saya ada beg coklat. Lucas: And 'she has a gold ring' — Dia ada cincin emas. Luna: Dia ada cincin emas. Lucas: Perfect. Now let's do a quick test. I'll say a sentence in English, you translate to Malay. Ready? Luna: Ready. Lucas: The cat is brown. Luna: Kucing itu coklat. Lucas: The coin is gold. Luna: Duit syiling itu emas. Or is there a word for coin? Lucas: Duit syiling works. Or you could say wang syiling. But you got the idea. Luna: Yes! I'm getting more confident. Lucas: That's the spirit. Alright, let's wrap up today. We learned coklat and emas. Use them when you see something brown or gold. Luna: Coklat and emas. I'll practice by describing everything around me. Lucas: Great idea. Thanks for joining us on Learn Malay with Fexingo. Practice these colors till we chat again. Luna: Bye bye, see you next time!
