- 0:22SPEAKER_00: In your life as a writer, there are many things that you get to choose.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: You get to choose how and when you write, what kind of material you create, the type of platform you want to build, and so much more.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: But there's one thing that none of us gets to decide, and that is the times in which we live.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Right now is a period of civil unrest.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: It's a period of religious conflict.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: It's a time of an uncertain economy and political leaders don't trust, as well as a pace of change that's far too fast than most of us are comfortable with.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: However, you could honestly say the same thing for just about any period of Western history.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: So don't spend your time and emotional energy worrying about the things that you can't change.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Instead, focus on setting and achieving your goals, focus on being productive, focus on adding value to the world through your writing.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: After all, it's the only thing that you really have any control over.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: If you've ever seen the Lord of the Rings movies, you probably will remember these lines from the first movie in that trilogy, The Fellowship of the Ring.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Frodo says to Gandalf, I wish the ring had never come to me.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: I wish none of this had happened.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: And Gandalf says, So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: And boy, what a great reminder for all of us, right?
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: We have to make good use of the time that's given to us by focusing on what we can control.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: So here's today's question How much time and energy do you spend on things that you can control versus the things that you can't?
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Thanks for listening, and I'll see you tomorrow.
