- 0:00Speaker 1: Vincent Mecavinia is with us now. Hello Vincent, Hello, good morning.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Tell us about the reaction to the Gaza rivieraplane.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Well, there's been a huge reaction across Europe and the
- 0:10Speaker 2: Middle East to this plan, and I think it can
- 0:12Speaker 2: be said it is sort of universal condemnation of the
- 0:15Speaker 2: very idea. The terms ethnic cleansing are being used by leaders,
- 0:20Speaker 2: but they're all sort of having to be very careful
- 0:22Speaker 2: in how they come out and criticize what Donald Trump
- 0:25Speaker 2: has said, because Donald Trump's team tried to walk things
- 0:27Speaker 2: back yesterday, but this morning in Washington, DC, he's reiterated
- 0:31Speaker 2: he wants to clear the Palestinians out. He wants to
- 0:33Speaker 2: make this so called riviera of the Middle East. And
- 0:35Speaker 2: so what countries are doing is they're sort of not
- 0:37Speaker 2: trying to When leaders are like Sakir Starmer, for instance
- 0:41Speaker 2: here in Britain, are being asked questions about this plan,
- 0:43Speaker 2: they're simply restating their own national posits. Pretty much universal
- 0:47Speaker 2: in Europe is that there is a two state solution.
- 0:50Speaker 2: That is the only solution on the table. The Palestinian
- 0:52Speaker 2: should be allowed to keep their land. So that is
- 0:55Speaker 2: the difficult dance that leaders are trying to make with Europe,
- 0:57Speaker 2: of course, very much on watch for what Donald Trump
- 1:01Speaker 2: is saying about Greenland and his sort of expansionist ideas
- 1:04Speaker 2: in his second term.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Okay, and then tell us about the Greek island of
- 1:08Speaker 1: center Reini. It's a beautiful place, famous for its blue
- 1:10Speaker 1: roofs and its white buildings carved into rock faces. Apparently
- 1:13Speaker 1: is falling into the sea.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it is a picture perfect island, very popular with tourists,
- 1:20Speaker 2: so much so that it has become incredibly overcrowded in
- 1:22Speaker 2: recent years. But they've had tourists flocking off the island.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Eleven thousand have left by fairy and by air in
- 1:30Speaker 2: the past couple of days because they have had an
- 1:33Speaker 2: unprecedented continuous streak of earthquakes, one measuring five point two
- 1:38Speaker 2: and this is something that's been going on for several
- 1:41Speaker 2: days now, causing cracks and damage so far, with expectations
- 1:45Speaker 2: that this could continue for the foreseeable. So they've declared
- 1:49Speaker 2: a national an island state of emergency for the next
- 1:53Speaker 2: month because they're so worried about what could happen. As
- 1:56Speaker 2: you mentioned, those sort of famous houses and buildings sort
- 1:59Speaker 2: of carved right into the faces, which of course, might
- 2:02Speaker 2: not be able to withstand such tremors, which.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Would break my heart. I've never been Vincent mcaviny, I.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Think for more from Early Edition with Ryan Bridge. Listen
- 2:10Speaker 2: live to news talks. It'd be from five am weekdays,
- 2:13Speaker 2: or follow the podcast on iHeartRadio
