- 0:02Speaker 1: October's edge.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Could it be sho, Hey Otani, I like the pumpkins
- 0:07Speaker 2: number too early for pumpkins, pumpkins spice latte anyway?
- 0:11Speaker 3: Could a Giants or Orioles fan?
- 0:14Speaker 1: True, neither of which will be in October.
- 0:18Speaker 2: But this article in The Athletic refers to a conversation
- 0:23Speaker 2: yesterday on The Dan Patrick Show with Mark Pryor, the
- 0:27Speaker 2: pitching coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The headliner is,
- 0:30Speaker 2: could show Hey Otani pitch in relief in October and
- 0:35Speaker 2: here's what it would take good article. Fabi and Ardaia
- 0:38Speaker 2: writes about it, and prior told the Dan Patrick Show
- 0:42Speaker 2: absolutely about the possibility of him being a relief pitcher
- 0:48Speaker 2: in the playoffs. He did clarify after that the discussions
- 0:51Speaker 2: the organization has had about him in a relief role
- 0:54Speaker 2: are limited solely to clarifying the language of the rule
- 0:58Speaker 2: book and Otani's ability to rem ain't in the game
- 1:00Speaker 2: as a hitter in such a scenario. AJ, we just
- 1:04Speaker 2: did the Otani rule for eligibility the other day. Do
- 1:07Speaker 2: we need another Otani rule for everything to work out?
- 1:11Speaker 2: From a reliever point of view, Well.
- 1:13Speaker 4: It's gonna be different because you can't just bring a
- 1:15Speaker 4: guy in and then pitch him and then put him
- 1:18Speaker 4: right back at DH. So I don't know how it's
- 1:20Speaker 4: gonna work. Someone's gonna have to clarify this. We're gonna
- 1:22Speaker 4: need a rules official, an umpire, Rob Manfred, somebody to
- 1:26Speaker 4: come out because this is an interesting point. I don't
- 1:28Speaker 4: think you can do this, but we'll see. I don't
- 1:30Speaker 4: know if anyone's ever tried this. So does you have
- 1:32Speaker 4: to go in the outfield after he pitches to stay
- 1:34Speaker 4: in the game or something?
- 1:36Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:36Speaker 4: I want to know the rule. I want to know
- 1:37Speaker 4: the answer to the rule, because nobody seems to know
- 1:39Speaker 4: the answer, including Mark Bryor and the Dodgers.
- 1:41Speaker 1: So wait real quick, KP. I'll just read this.
- 1:45Speaker 2: So MLB's Otani rule, and this isn't for the eligibility,
- 1:47Speaker 2: which we covered the other day. This is for game
- 1:49Speaker 2: by game. It was written in twenty twenty two. It
- 1:52Speaker 2: specifies that a starting pitcher can remain in the game
- 1:54Speaker 2: as a DH even after being removed from the game
- 1:56Speaker 2: as a pitcher. That's what Otani does now when he's starting.
- 2:00Speaker 2: That does not apply the same way if the pitcher
- 2:02Speaker 2: entered in relief if Otani starts a game as DH
- 2:05Speaker 2: then enters the game to pitch, removing him would mean
- 2:08Speaker 2: taking him out of the game entirely, and you lose
- 2:10Speaker 2: your DH. And the Dodgers don't want to do that.
- 2:13Speaker 2: So do we need to quickly create a rule?
- 2:16Speaker 1: Otherwise? How are you using Otani as a reliever in
- 2:19Speaker 1: this postseason?
- 2:21Speaker 6: Hey, maybe maybe they need to you know, have a
- 2:24Speaker 6: sacrificial land, maybe just rake in relief and maybe lose
- 2:28Speaker 6: him for the rest of the game, and then they'll
- 2:29Speaker 6: have a complaint and you know, more than likely they'll
- 2:32Speaker 6: probably you know, cater to him and change the rule.
- 2:36Speaker 6: But in addition to the rule, I was thinking, logistically,
- 2:39Speaker 6: how does that work? You know, it's already complicated enough
- 2:43Speaker 6: for him to you know, have to go into the
- 2:44Speaker 6: bullpen warm up. You know, he has his time to
- 2:47Speaker 6: walk across the field, sit in the dugout. You know,
- 2:49Speaker 6: we've seen the videos of him when he's starting at home.
- 2:52Speaker 6: You know, bat boy brings him out of stuff. He
- 2:54Speaker 6: never even goes and sit down. But what is he
- 2:56Speaker 6: going to do if he's at you know, say he
- 2:58Speaker 6: hits a leadoff double and they need him to go
- 3:00Speaker 6: get three big outs. You know, what do they do?
- 3:02Speaker 6: Can he are we gonna have a ghost runner? Like
- 3:04Speaker 6: where does the rule kind of stop to kind of
- 3:06Speaker 6: cater towards him and the Dodgers. But you know a
- 3:09Speaker 6: lot of these bullpens are out in the outfield. A
- 3:11Speaker 6: lot of these bullpen or a lot of the batting
- 3:13Speaker 6: cages don't have mountds in them underneath, So that's another
- 3:16Speaker 6: thing they would have to try to figure out logistically.
- 3:20Speaker 5: It's not gonna happen. It's not gonna happen. It's not
- 3:24Speaker 5: gonna happen.
- 3:25Speaker 4: It can't happen with the rule the way it is,
- 3:26Speaker 4: and it can't happen with what KP just said. Let's
- 3:28Speaker 4: say he hits a leadoff single and he's on first,
- 3:30Speaker 4: and like, hey, we really want you to pitch the eighth.
- 3:32Speaker 4: You're oh go steal second, score the go ahead run,
- 3:35Speaker 4: and pitch the eighth. They won't happen because he won't
- 3:36Speaker 4: have time to warm up and his routine is too long.
- 3:38Speaker 4: So he's gonna have to be a starter or nothing,
- 3:40Speaker 4: or they're gonna have to put him in the They're
- 3:42Speaker 4: gonna have to figure this out in the regular season
- 3:44Speaker 4: because you can't go into the postseason and be like, oh, hey, guys,
- 3:46Speaker 4: we're changing the rules for one guy can do this.
- 3:48Speaker 3: No, the rule's not gonna change. He's not gonna be able. Yeah,
- 3:51Speaker 3: it's cool they said that.
- 3:52Speaker 4: But if they're willing to let him go out there
- 3:54Speaker 4: and maybe close a game in the ninth and if
- 3:55Speaker 4: he gives it up, they lose him in the lineup,
- 3:57Speaker 4: and that's gonna be what they're gonna have to do.
- 3:58Speaker 5: But it's not gonna happen.
- 3:59Speaker 6: I mean, I like that point too, is even if
- 4:03Speaker 6: they don't change the rule. I mean, you can roll
- 4:05Speaker 6: the dice and gamble a little bit too, and you know,
- 4:08Speaker 6: if the opportunity presents itself where you know, maybe he
- 4:11Speaker 6: had hit in the inning before and he has the
- 4:13Speaker 6: proper amount of time to go warm up, he could
- 4:16Speaker 6: pitch in the eighth or ninth inning at the risk
- 4:18Speaker 6: if the game is tied or they give up the lead,
- 4:21Speaker 6: you may have to lose him. Or like you said,
- 4:23Speaker 6: maybe he learns to you know, maybe go stand and
- 4:25Speaker 6: left or right field and you'd probably be really good
- 4:28Speaker 6: at it if he got a chance to play the outfield.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Yeah, if you're running out of arms like the Dodgers were,
- 4:34Speaker 2: last year in the World Series, and they're like, I
- 4:37Speaker 2: know he told Walker Buehler, no way, but now, okay,
- 4:41Speaker 2: that could be Hero Tani moment in a scenario like that.
- 4:43Speaker 2: But I'm with you this year, AJ, if the league
- 4:46Speaker 2: tried to change a rule now, it would be a
- 4:49Speaker 2: difficult luck. Now, AJ, do you think that they should
- 4:53Speaker 2: change this rule going forward, not just for Otani, but
- 4:55Speaker 2: should they try and figure out a way to promote
- 4:58Speaker 2: that we could have more two A players as relievers
- 5:00Speaker 2: and not just starters or kp What do you think?
- 5:03Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I don't think it's a bad thing.
- 5:05Speaker 6: I mean, I think there's a you know, a couple
- 5:08Speaker 6: guys that may have the ability to maybe pitch one inning,
- 5:12Speaker 6: but since there's not really a rule in place, they
- 5:15Speaker 6: haven't really kind of figured out a way to use
- 5:16Speaker 6: those guys. I know. You know, there's been a couple
- 5:19Speaker 6: players recently that were drafted as two way players, and
- 5:22Speaker 6: you know, ultimately you get into the minor leagues and
- 5:24Speaker 6: you realize, one it's incredibly difficult to be successful as
- 5:27Speaker 6: a hitter or pitcher. It's almost impossibly to be successful
- 5:31Speaker 6: at both. But maybe a change in rule does allow
- 5:36Speaker 6: some of these organizations to at least flirt with the
- 5:38Speaker 6: idea of, like, man, this guy's got a really good arm.
- 5:40Speaker 6: Maybe he could pitch like, you know, a seventh or
- 5:43Speaker 6: eighth inning, you know, every once in a while, and
- 5:46Speaker 6: maybe it can lead to more guys, you know, kind
- 5:48Speaker 6: of finding their path as a two way player.
- 5:51Speaker 4: What you mentioned it yesterday though Scott didn't. We didn't
- 5:54Speaker 4: we talk yesterday about the rule?
- 5:56Speaker 5: Was it yesterday?
- 5:57Speaker 3: We talked about the rules?
- 5:58Speaker 5: How it limits two way guys.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Yeah, limits even more because you can't use them as
- 6:03Speaker 4: You can't really use them as a starter at the
- 6:04Speaker 4: big league level because you basically have to eat it
- 6:07Speaker 4: for a year of playing a player short and if
- 6:11Speaker 4: you want to use them as a bullpen guy or
- 6:14Speaker 4: in a position player, you lose them as soon as
- 6:15Speaker 4: they come in. So yeah, I think some rules need
- 6:17Speaker 4: to change. I don't know when, and won't. It's not
- 6:19Speaker 4: gonna happen during the year. If it had, let me
- 6:21Speaker 4: say this, if it happens during the year, you will
- 6:23Speaker 4: have every fan base except the Dodgers clamoring that the
- 6:27Speaker 4: league is trying to help the Dodgers win another World Series.
- 6:30Speaker 6: Yeah, I think you just got to if you're the Dodgers.
- 6:32Speaker 6: You just got to go out and do it, like
- 6:34Speaker 6: I said, sacrifice him missing, you know, and at bat,
- 6:38Speaker 6: maybe in the eighth or ninth inning of a single game,
- 6:40Speaker 6: and then you can kind of just bring attention to it,
- 6:43Speaker 6: and you know, maybe the league has a you know,
- 6:46Speaker 6: a discussion about it in the offseason. But to your
- 6:49Speaker 6: point too, I wouldn't want to be a rules committee
- 6:53Speaker 6: part of MLB Major League Baseball right now, and you know,
- 6:57Speaker 6: kind of bend the rules to a team that was
- 6:59Speaker 6: already considered a super team and a team that's supposed
- 7:01Speaker 6: to win the World Series, and a team that won
- 7:03Speaker 6: the World Series last year that are already kind of
- 7:05Speaker 6: playing with a unique set of rules because they have
- 7:07Speaker 6: the one and only guy who does both.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Logan O Hoppy Angels Catcher joining us right now. How
- 7:16Speaker 1: you doing, man?
- 7:17Speaker 7: Doing well? Thank you doing well. Good to see you guys.
- 7:19Speaker 7: Appreciate you. Yeah, yeah, it's been good.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Good to see you two.
- 7:24Speaker 2: First off, I just want to carry a combo we
- 7:26Speaker 2: were having from the previous segment. Where are we at
- 7:30Speaker 2: with fundamentals and how they're taught both at the minor
- 7:34Speaker 2: league level, and let's even go further back right. As
- 7:37Speaker 2: soon as you become a prospect, you're on the prospect map.
- 7:41Speaker 2: How are fundamentals and development taught to players right? How
- 7:46Speaker 2: do they develop players versus balancing a player having to
- 7:51Speaker 2: actually get to MLB right and prove that he's got
- 7:56Speaker 2: the tools, the numbers that are people are looking at
- 7:58Speaker 2: the metrics. This discussion is related to how you know
- 8:02Speaker 2: the Brewers are playing a different brand of baseball for
- 8:05Speaker 2: many other teams.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Your thoughts, I.
- 8:09Speaker 8: Think I would have a different answer than the kids
- 8:11Speaker 8: that have gotten drafted in the past couple of years.
- 8:14Speaker 8: I came up with the Phillies and I was in
- 8:17Speaker 8: twenty eighteen. I was a late round pick out of high.
- 8:19Speaker 7: School, and.
- 8:21Speaker 8: I was taught then, if you're gonna play in the
- 8:23Speaker 8: big leagues, then you're gonna be out at the lower
- 8:25Speaker 8: part of the order, and you got to learn to
- 8:27Speaker 8: do these things, you know. So it was something that
- 8:28Speaker 8: I was taught, not even in professional baseball, back in
- 8:32Speaker 8: high school. My two high school coaches were and still
- 8:36Speaker 8: are really I consider them family and some of the
- 8:39Speaker 8: best baseball people still that I've ever been around. So
- 8:43Speaker 8: they were implemented at a pretty young age. Bunted yesterday
- 8:47Speaker 8: for the first time in my big league career. So
- 8:49Speaker 8: this qussion comes at a perfect time. I think it's
- 8:51Speaker 8: really important. Part of me misses that brand of baseball,
- 8:55Speaker 8: you know, and I'm always trying to find ways to
- 8:59Speaker 8: be better at it. And but the game is changing, obviously,
- 9:03Speaker 8: is as we all know, So it's definitely a tricky
- 9:06Speaker 8: thing to balance. But I know, coming up in the
- 9:09Speaker 8: minor leagues with the Phillies then it was harped on
- 9:12Speaker 8: quite a bit.
- 9:13Speaker 9: Do guys talk about you're in the big leagues now,
- 9:15Speaker 9: not in the minor leagues They're saying the conversation was, Oh,
- 9:19Speaker 9: you got to learn all this stuff in the minor leagues.
- 9:21Speaker 9: Do you feel like when you were asked to bunt
- 9:23Speaker 9: or you bunted, that your value is now going down
- 9:27Speaker 9: arbitration value? Is that kind of stuff discussed in the
- 9:30Speaker 9: clubhouse or is that like a hush hush thing that
- 9:34Speaker 9: a team that wants to win gets this done.
- 9:39Speaker 8: No, we don't talk about that at all ever in
- 9:41Speaker 8: the clubhouse.
- 9:41Speaker 7: It's it's been.
- 9:43Speaker 8: A lot of football lately and everything in between or
- 9:46Speaker 8: laughing the netto whatever it's been. So no, we don't
- 9:49Speaker 8: really talk about that. A lot in the clubhouse. But selfishly,
- 9:52Speaker 8: I think that fundamentals are what makes the game great.
- 9:55Speaker 8: And I know that I'm probably pretty outdated with that take,
- 9:58Speaker 8: but I think so it makes the game awesome.
- 10:01Speaker 5: Logain.
- 10:02Speaker 3: First of all, your hair is on point, but that's
- 10:04Speaker 3: when you can get into that later.
- 10:05Speaker 4: Their hairs fresh, thank you, thank you, very nice, very nice,
- 10:08Speaker 4: fresh cut. But my whole thing when we were discussing
- 10:12Speaker 4: this is is teams and agents. It's not in amongst
- 10:17Speaker 4: the players, but teams and agents will go to you
- 10:19Speaker 4: and say maybe more agents and teams because teams don't
- 10:21Speaker 4: want to give away their secret. But your agent says, man,
- 10:24Speaker 4: you got to hit more home runs. I remember when
- 10:25Speaker 4: I was going through arbitration and they were like, you
- 10:28Speaker 4: got to hit twenty homers if you want to get paid.
- 10:31Speaker 4: And I was like what the team told me that,
- 10:32Speaker 4: And I was like wait what And I'm like, but
- 10:34Speaker 4: I only you know, I hit ten or eleven or whatever,
- 10:36Speaker 4: and they're like, nope, you got to get to twenty
- 10:38Speaker 4: if you want to really get paid.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Right.
- 10:39Speaker 4: So that's kind of where it's gone now is guys
- 10:42Speaker 4: look at it and they started it at such a
- 10:43Speaker 4: young age with their agents or advisors as they call them. Now,
- 10:47Speaker 4: you got to hit for more power, you gotta walk more, right,
- 10:50Speaker 4: you got to throw harder as a pitcher. And that's
- 10:53Speaker 4: why some of the people are saying that the bunting
- 10:55Speaker 4: and the stealing of bases and some of the other
- 10:57Speaker 4: stuff isn't pushed as much because they're totally young. Hey,
- 11:00Speaker 4: you want to get to the big leagues, you got
- 11:02Speaker 4: to hit homers. You gotta walk, and it's okay to
- 11:03Speaker 4: strike out.
- 11:05Speaker 8: M I I would say that I don't think arbitration
- 11:09Speaker 8: has a lot to do with it.
- 11:10Speaker 7: I think that no matter I mean, you guys know
- 11:12Speaker 7: when you played.
- 11:13Speaker 8: Like I think, no matter what, you're gonna want to
- 11:15Speaker 8: walk more, strikeout less, and hit more homers. Like I
- 11:18Speaker 8: think anyone that's playing the game will tell you that
- 11:20Speaker 8: they want to do more of that, you know, And
- 11:22Speaker 8: that's that's money arbitration for you to see whatever aside
- 11:26Speaker 8: from all of it, just because it makes sleeping a
- 11:30Speaker 8: lot easier when you do those things more often, you know.
- 11:32Speaker 8: So I don't think that money is a driving factor
- 11:35Speaker 8: for a lot of guys. I think that they just
- 11:37Speaker 8: want to impact the game as much as they can
- 11:39Speaker 8: and be the best player they can be, And I
- 11:43Speaker 8: I can truthfully say, like, I really don't think that
- 11:45Speaker 8: if you ask guys around the league that there's there's
- 11:47Speaker 8: an agenda like that because they want to get paid more,
- 11:52Speaker 8: because they want to maximize arbitration or whatever that is.
- 11:54Speaker 7: So I think it's just guys want to be the best.
- 11:58Speaker 5: All right. So you're saying players want to be competitive, right.
- 12:01Speaker 7: M hmm. Absolutely, they want to win.
- 12:04Speaker 5: They want to win.
- 12:04Speaker 9: Anybody ever questions that you know guys on the field
- 12:07Speaker 9: don't want to win or don't care, they're just trying
- 12:09Speaker 9: to get their numbers. I think is a lie. Probably
- 12:13Speaker 9: ninety nine percent of the time. I think ninety nine
- 12:15Speaker 9: percent of guys want to win. Who's the most competitive
- 12:17Speaker 9: person on your Angels team right now?
- 12:21Speaker 8: We got a bunch of guys. I would say Tyler
- 12:23Speaker 8: Anderson is the most competitive, and not so much off
- 12:28Speaker 8: the field. We were really we don't we don't do
- 12:31Speaker 8: too much competition off the field with one another. But
- 12:35Speaker 8: Tyler Anderson that guy. I mean, that guy's a bulldog
- 12:38Speaker 8: and he wants at every pitch and I always like
- 12:41Speaker 8: catching t I know he's going to give everything.
- 12:43Speaker 4: Yes, what's it like in angels Land right now? What's
- 12:48Speaker 4: it like in in I'm Anaheim. It's not Los Angeles.
- 12:51Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 12:52Speaker 5: I bet game is still I don't care.
- 12:54Speaker 3: But what's it like in Anaheim?
- 12:56Speaker 5: Right now?
- 12:56Speaker 3: You guys are kind of.
- 12:57Speaker 4: In that you're still in it, right so you're fighting
- 12:59Speaker 4: to win every every day. You guys play great against
- 13:01Speaker 4: the dog I mean, you guys swept the Dodgers year.
- 13:04Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, then you'll have like a lower you loose
- 13:06Speaker 3: two out of three.
- 13:06Speaker 4: What's it like because you guys, it's like, you guys
- 13:08Speaker 4: played great against the really good teams and then all
- 13:11Speaker 4: of a sudden it's like, oh no, what happened against
- 13:13Speaker 4: the other teams?
- 13:14Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 13:15Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean the vibes are good. We still love
- 13:18Speaker 8: playing with each other. We know, we know what's in
- 13:21Speaker 8: front of us. It's been the focus every day and
- 13:25Speaker 8: obviously last week was a huge step for us and
- 13:29Speaker 8: just awesome for for everybody and everything to know that
- 13:32Speaker 8: we're capable of doing that. And like you said, tough weekend,
- 13:36Speaker 8: but we've overcome obstacles before. You know, it's nothing we

- 14:52Speaker 2: to beat the Dodgers, because a lot of teams would
- 14:54Speaker 2: like to know it. I know they haven't played as
- 14:56Speaker 2: well the last couple months up until this weekend where
- 14:59Speaker 2: they swept the Padres, but this is the defending champs,
- 15:03Speaker 2: and I think this was the first time ever we
- 15:04Speaker 2: had this occur where the Angels swept the season series.
- 15:07Speaker 1: So what happened?
- 15:09Speaker 7: Mm hmmm. We played our game. That was it.
- 15:13Speaker 8: We didn't get outside of doing what we knew we
- 15:16Speaker 8: were capable of doing. Back in a little bit to
- 15:19Speaker 8: our first question about worrying about different numbers and stuff,
- 15:23Speaker 8: I forgot to mention, like those games against the Dodgers
- 15:26Speaker 8: are really any big of a game, even if it's
- 15:28Speaker 8: a Monday Tuesday night game with only a couple thousand
- 15:31Speaker 8: people there. Like, the environment's too hostile to think like that.
- 15:35Speaker 8: Like if you think like that environments like we just
- 15:38Speaker 8: played in, then you're gonna get eaten alive, Like you
- 15:40Speaker 8: don't have time to think about the outside stuff. So
- 15:44Speaker 8: those games were fun. They were really fun. Obviously the
- 15:46Speaker 8: result plays a huge part of that, but I think
- 15:49Speaker 8: I could speak for a lot of guys in the clubhouse,
- 15:51Speaker 8: like it took me a while to go to sleep
- 15:53Speaker 8: after those games each one, and it was it was
- 15:57Speaker 8: a pretty cool atmosphere for sure.
- 15:59Speaker 9: Some of the they're talked about with the Angels are, Oh,
- 16:01Speaker 9: it's all these guys that get drafted and they come
- 16:04Speaker 9: right up to the big leagues and you have a
- 16:06Speaker 9: lot of dudes. I mean they're they're everywhere. You got netto,
- 16:10Speaker 9: You've got Christian Moore was playing a lot recently, Shana, Well,
- 16:14Speaker 9: some of your pitchers. You know, obviously Joyce's out, but
- 16:17Speaker 9: you know, you sit there and you go, all these
- 16:19Speaker 9: guys are getting called up. Is there any way to
- 16:22Speaker 9: simulate or get them ready for a Dodger series when
- 16:27Speaker 9: they're in the bushes? Because the best, to me, the
- 16:29Speaker 9: best way to learn is in the big leagues, But
- 16:31Speaker 9: the hardest place to learn lessons is in the big leagues.
- 16:34Speaker 5: M h.
- 16:36Speaker 7: Yeah, you're spot on with that.
- 16:38Speaker 8: There's no way you can replicate that like nowhere in
- 16:40Speaker 8: the minor leagues. In my opinion, I always said I
- 16:43Speaker 8: heard that there were big jumps in the minor leagues,
- 16:45Speaker 8: whether it was from high to double A or whatever,
- 16:48Speaker 8: it was low way to triple A, whatever was I
- 16:50Speaker 8: think the biggest jump is to the big leagues. I
- 16:51Speaker 8: don't think you could replicate anything like it, and environments
- 16:55Speaker 8: like that. It's good for all this young guys to
- 16:57Speaker 8: be in those environments as early as we can, you know,
- 16:59Speaker 8: because I was picking Travis's brain about how that compares
- 17:03Speaker 8: to a playoff atmosphere.
- 17:04Speaker 7: So all those experiences.
- 17:07Speaker 8: Are great for us, And kudos to to all those
- 17:11Speaker 8: young guys and all of us that that did it
- 17:13Speaker 8: and we're able to compete and keep her composure that week.
- 17:17Speaker 5: What about what about tipping pitches?
- 17:19Speaker 9: You guys got the you got the little you know,
- 17:22Speaker 9: the little now, so there's no more signs unless you're
- 17:25Speaker 9: kershaw Kershall was given signs against you, guys.
- 17:28Speaker 5: How much of your not how.
- 17:31Speaker 9: Much of your day, but how much does that consume
- 17:34Speaker 9: you in the sense of like looking at the first
- 17:36Speaker 9: base coach, third base coach, are they move and how
- 17:39Speaker 9: much are you in your Is that in your constant
- 17:44Speaker 9: thought when you're playing certain teams or is it just
- 17:48Speaker 9: always and you always think somebody's trying to trying to
- 17:52Speaker 9: pick signs or pick a tip from a pitcher live
- 17:56Speaker 9: in game.
- 17:58Speaker 8: Yeah, you're you're always anticipating it just because you know
- 18:03Speaker 8: the information that's out there. You know, you know that
- 18:05Speaker 8: guys are studying you see it. So it's it's been
- 18:09Speaker 8: something I've been learning with behind the plate, especially of
- 18:11Speaker 8: not going too early or whatever it may be. But yeah,
- 18:15Speaker 8: I mean it's it's I wouldn't say it's in the
- 18:18Speaker 8: forefront of my mind, but it's always a thought in
- 18:19Speaker 8: the back of your head on are we keeping everything secure?
- 18:22Speaker 8: And are we are we keeping anything neat and tidy
- 18:25Speaker 8: how we need.
- 18:26Speaker 7: It to be.
- 18:26Speaker 8: So I would say it's a thought throughout the game
- 18:29Speaker 8: for sure, but it's definitely not a main focus at all.
- 18:32Speaker 9: I don't know, maybe you won't answer this, but I
- 18:35Speaker 9: had a tip as a catcher one time in September.
- 18:39Speaker 9: Every for like two weeks, every breaking ball that I
- 18:43Speaker 9: called with a runner on second, I would touch my
- 18:46Speaker 9: chest protector. And one of the guys on our on
- 18:50Speaker 9: one of the guys on our team are one of
- 18:52Speaker 9: the coaches, one of the video guys, was like, Hey,
- 18:54Speaker 9: you're doing this every single time on a breaking ball,
- 18:57Speaker 9: never on a fastball. Is there a tip that you
- 19:00Speaker 9: had when you first came up early that you were
- 19:02Speaker 9: that you were told about that you were doing.
- 19:07Speaker 7: I haven't gotten one like that.
- 19:10Speaker 8: I know that this is a frequent thought of mine,
- 19:13Speaker 8: Like if if we get hit on a pitch, especially
- 19:15Speaker 8: if it's executed, I'm thinking, like I'm looking back at
- 19:18Speaker 8: like what what did I do? Like I had to
- 19:21Speaker 8: be given something, I had to have been doing something
- 19:25Speaker 8: at some point, So I look at it as much
- 19:26Speaker 8: as I can, And I mean, I'll be transparent with
- 19:30Speaker 8: you guys. I'm sure there have been times where I've
- 19:32Speaker 8: had something that another team's had.
- 19:34Speaker 7: You know, But I do what I can to stay
- 19:36Speaker 7: on top of it.
- 19:37Speaker 8: And that doesn't help me sleep a night by any means,
- 19:40Speaker 8: but I know that that's a part of the girling process.
- 19:44Speaker 4: Do you guys self scout? Do you self scout yourself?
- 19:47Speaker 4: Do you guys have someone to watch the video you look?
- 19:51Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 19:52Speaker 4: Okay, okay, So then did it look different this weekend
- 19:54Speaker 4: when you had that awesome catching gear with all the
- 19:56Speaker 4: signatures and stuff on it?
- 19:58Speaker 3: Did it look any different when you checked it out?
- 20:00Speaker 3: Because that was awesome?
- 20:01Speaker 7: So no, that was that was a cool one.
- 20:04Speaker 8: It came out way better than last year's And uh yeah,
- 20:07Speaker 8: that's always a pretty a pretty special day and a
- 20:11Speaker 8: pretty cool thing to do. So grateful that those kids
- 20:14Speaker 8: who were not only eager to help, but but had
- 20:18Speaker 8: smiles on their faces doing it, and they were helping
- 20:22Speaker 8: me as much as hopefully we're helping them a little bit.
- 20:25Speaker 5: Should you be able to do more of this? Should?
- 20:28Speaker 9: Should Major League Baseball allow more of this? Like not
- 20:31Speaker 9: just one weekend? Because I mean, look at this pictures.
- 20:34Speaker 9: If you put those pictures up of the kids smiles
- 20:38Speaker 9: and then you put them next to your smile that
- 20:41Speaker 9: you just had, like you know, that puts a smile
- 20:45Speaker 9: on their face. And yet it feels like sometimes it's
- 20:49Speaker 9: like pulling teeth to be able to have something special
- 20:51Speaker 9: like this that's in a game that that makes that
- 20:55Speaker 9: changes lives for these kids.
- 20:57Speaker 7: Mm hmm. It's a it's a tougher question for me
- 21:02Speaker 7: to answer. To be honest with you, the only thing
- 21:06Speaker 7: I don't like.
- 21:07Speaker 8: About moments like this are the cameras and the notoriety gets.
- 21:12Speaker 8: I want to make it clear to those kids that
- 21:14Speaker 8: I'm there to see them when I'm in the in
- 21:16Speaker 8: those hospitals, and a lot of times I tell them
- 21:19Speaker 8: to leave the cameras out, Like I don't.
- 21:21Speaker 7: I don't like that part of it, you know.
- 21:23Speaker 8: I want to be a human before I'm the baseball
- 21:26Speaker 8: player that's going to visit a hospital, you know, because
- 21:29Speaker 8: I saw it firsthand with whether it's friends or family. Like,
- 21:32Speaker 8: the last thing you want when you're going through that
- 21:34Speaker 8: stuff is cameras in your face, you know. So you
- 21:38Speaker 8: just want people to talk to and sometimes you just
- 21:40Speaker 8: don't want to be a patient in the hospital, you know.
- 21:43Speaker 7: So, I it's a tough thing. I don't know. I mean,
- 21:46Speaker 7: I'm grateful that the league gave us the outlet to
- 21:48Speaker 7: do it.
- 21:49Speaker 8: Don't get me wrong, I don't want to don't come
- 21:50Speaker 8: off ungrateful about it, but I mean, if they if
- 21:55Speaker 8: they did more about it, great. But I think that
- 21:57Speaker 8: as players we can all I'll do a little more.
- 22:00Speaker 8: I wish our schedules gave us more time to do
- 22:02Speaker 8: more things like that, you know. But I know there
- 22:05Speaker 8: are plenty of guys around the league that doing as
- 22:06Speaker 8: much as they can that no one sees, And I
- 22:08Speaker 8: think that that's that's the sauce for sure.
- 22:11Speaker 4: Hey, hey Logan, we had the Cardinals game and Pozo
- 22:14Speaker 4: had a bat that he did the same thing. He
- 22:16Speaker 4: went around and he had a bunch of children that
- 22:20Speaker 4: were in the hospital and going through stuff and put
- 22:22Speaker 4: their hands on the bat and he used in the
- 22:24Speaker 4: games and all that stuff.
- 22:26Speaker 3: It's amazing what you guys are able to do.
- 22:28Speaker 5: Now, how much.
- 22:30Speaker 4: Do you think it means to the kids, right like you,
- 22:33Speaker 4: but also like the kids when they turn on the
- 22:35Speaker 4: TV they say, hey, that's my blue handprint or look
- 22:38Speaker 4: at Logan's chest protector.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Like, to me, that's what it's about. It's not about
- 22:42Speaker 3: the cameras. But it's a cool moment.
- 22:43Speaker 4: You know, the kids are in there and they get
- 22:44Speaker 4: their picture taken and then they get to tell their friends, Oh,
- 22:46Speaker 4: Logan o'hoppe came to see me.
- 22:48Speaker 3: But then they turn on the.
- 22:49Speaker 4: TV and you're catching and your chest protector has Sammy
- 22:53Speaker 4: or David or whoever signed Liz or whoever it was,
- 22:55Speaker 4: it signed your chest protector. They can see that and
- 22:57Speaker 4: they call mom and dad and it puts that to
- 22:59Speaker 4: me is what it's about. It's not and I wish
- 23:01Speaker 4: we could do more of this, obviously, but I mean,
- 23:03Speaker 4: that's what it's all about. The smile that the smile
- 23:05Speaker 4: on your face, the smile on their face. How emotional
- 23:08Speaker 4: you get, How emotional Poso was, and we talked to
- 23:10Speaker 4: him about it, like, those are the moments that make
- 23:12Speaker 4: this game special, forget.
- 23:13Speaker 5: The other stuff.
- 23:15Speaker 8: Yeah, no, absolutely, Ultimately that's the that's the whole reason
- 23:18Speaker 8: why you do it, you know. So Yeah, I mean
- 23:23Speaker 8: you hit the nail on the head with that. It
- 23:26Speaker 8: is a pretty cool moment. Like I said, they were
- 23:27Speaker 8: helping me more than then they even thought. You know, so,
- 23:32Speaker 8: just trying to bring smiles to their faces as much
- 23:34Speaker 8: as we can because I know that they're going through
- 23:36Speaker 8: some pretty tough days.
- 23:37Speaker 7: So I hope we accomplish that.
- 23:42Speaker 4: Okay, all right, So last thing, I think we got
- 23:43Speaker 4: to let you go. Fantasy football is a huge deal
- 23:46Speaker 4: in the baseball community. Okay, don't let anybody you know.
- 23:49Speaker 4: That's why that smile came out. Have you guys done
- 23:51Speaker 4: your draft yet?
- 23:54Speaker 3: How did you pick the order?
- 23:55Speaker 5: Okay?
- 23:55Speaker 3: Well, how are you going to pick the order?
- 23:57Speaker 4: Because you saw the Blue Jays that their little guy
- 23:59Speaker 4: thing falling down, that whole.
- 24:00Speaker 7: Deal I did.
- 24:02Speaker 8: We got to talk to the commissioner about that because
- 24:04Speaker 8: we got it in a couple weeks too early in
- 24:06Speaker 8: preseason right now to draft.
- 24:07Speaker 3: So okay, who's the commissioner?
- 24:10Speaker 7: Uh trouty?
- 24:12Speaker 3: Oh oh boy.
- 24:16Speaker 8: It's a big buy in is what you're saying, all right,
- 24:19Speaker 8: and then split a team with Joe Adele.
- 24:21Speaker 3: Yes, okay, there.
- 24:22Speaker 1: You go, There you go, makes sense, Tommy Fan's not
- 24:25Speaker 1: on the Angels.
- 24:26Speaker 4: But then the last thing is is if you get
- 24:28Speaker 4: the first pick, who are you taking Chase.
- 24:32Speaker 8: I'm gonna have to talk to Joe about that. It's
- 24:33Speaker 8: a team effort, so we're gonna have to have a
- 24:35Speaker 8: couple of meetings about it and sit on the plane flight.
- 24:38Speaker 4: So are you a book Are you a book guy?
- 24:42Speaker 4: Are you like a magazine guy? Or you a print
- 24:44Speaker 4: out guy? Because some guys had books, some guys had
- 24:46Speaker 4: printouts that they would, you know, go through and keep
- 24:48Speaker 4: track of everything.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Do you just do it on your iPad? How do
- 24:51Speaker 3: you keep track of you know?
- 24:52Speaker 4: Then god forbid you draft somebody who already got drafted,
- 24:54Speaker 4: because then everybody just wears you out.
- 24:57Speaker 8: Yeah. I actually like, I'm I'm not a huge like.
- 25:02Speaker 8: I don't get too into it. I'm not a huge
- 25:05Speaker 8: fantasy football guy. But one thing I do know from
- 25:08Speaker 8: listening to friends or whoever was in the years past
- 25:12Speaker 8: is that usually the people that do the most homework
- 25:15Speaker 8: don't end up too well. So I'm gonna prepare a
- 25:18Speaker 8: little bit, not over prepare, and hopefully bother a few
- 25:22Speaker 8: guys on the team. You have my lack of preparation
- 25:24Speaker 8: and the record that will come out at the end
- 25:27Speaker 8: of the year, so we'll see how it shakes out there.
- 25:29Speaker 2: You go over prepping is a detriment if you go
- 25:33Speaker 2: too crazy.
- 25:33Speaker 3: Draft at draft at drill a lot.
- 25:36Speaker 8: Of draft, but that would be a good idea for sure.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Well, Logan, awesome to catch up with you, man. We
- 25:43Speaker 2: always appreciate having you on. Fans love it too.
- 25:45Speaker 1: A lot of Angels fans always check it in. Thanks
- 25:47Speaker 1: for the time, dude. We'll catch you soon.
- 25:48Speaker 7: Okay, thank you guys, appreciate it.
