- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to Eden Haddock Total Talent.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: I am your host, Eden, Head of Talent and People Experience at Movember.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: Talent Tragic, Workplace Futurist, Keeper of Lawnmower Glory, and Two-Wheeled Commuting Chaos.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: I'm the guy who still gets goose fumps when a candidate nails the answer to an interview question.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: I love this stuff.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Today we are cranking the amps up to 11 and smashing open a topic that's blowing up LinkedIn feeds, tech conference keynotes, and the fear-fueled fantasies of nervous executives everywhere.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: And that's candidate fraud.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: AI-generated resumes?
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Deep fake voices?
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Coordinational scans that sound like the plot of the next Mission Impossible movie.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Is it real?
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Is it new?
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Absolutely not.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Should it be the biggest thing on your agenda?
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: Should you be wasting your limited oxygen hyperventilating about it?
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Definitely not.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: There is a fine line between risk management and paranoia.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Between preparedness and panic.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Between good talent strategy and lighting your own hair on fire.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: So grab your backstage pass.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: It's time to walk past the security guards, rip down the fear posters, and talk about what actually matters in the talent world as we roll into Workplace 5.0.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Firstly, let's set the stage.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: The big baddie named AI Candidate Fraud.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: A dramatic narrator voice echoes through the industry.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: They are coming.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: Robots disguised as account managers.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Neural network wearing knockoff ties.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Synthetic voices claiming they know Ruby on Rails.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: We are doomed.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Q Thunder.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Q dramatic sound effects.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Q recruiters quitting en masse to become alpaca farmers.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: Actually, that would be fun.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: There's a growing narrative saying that candidate fraud is escalating at a terrifying pace.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: And if we don't have, you know, DEF CON minus one level controls are all toast, right?
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: AI regimes are everywhere.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Voice cloned interviews are the new norm.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Fraud rings are infiltrating companies.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: National security is at risk.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: And that recruiters must become digital border patrol.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: I guess it's a great revenue tactic for cybersecurity vendors, but it's terrible talent philosophy.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: Recruitment has always dealt with deception.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: We literally invented the phrase, fake it till you make it.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: Hiring people involves trust, evaluation, and checks that have existed long before anyone shouted Chat GPT wrote this.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: So what is different now?
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: The tools have changed, but the fear has stayed the same.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: I'm going to drop some truth bombs.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Truth bomb one.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Every great TA function already solves this problem.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: Strong hiring governance, quality background checks, skills validation, work rights verification, reference calls, in-person interviews returning to the stage, baby.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: Structured onboarding, verifying identity, credentials, and capability.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: None of this is new.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: It is simply hygiene.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: A truly fraudulent candidate cannot clear multiple assessment points, digital identity verification, global compliance checks, on-site interaction, probationary review with real-life performance expectations.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: Unless your hiring process is literally resume received, offer sent, hope and pray.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: You are good.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: Truth problem number two.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: Good hiring design blocks bot applicants already.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: Mine does.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: It's a job boards templated autofill.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: And humans have been phoning it in for decades.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: Simple practices already limit bot floods.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: For us, free text answers in our applications, short portfolio challenges, video screening with human review, and for us, that's a gentic AI.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: And interview questions requiring lived experience examples.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: You see, bots hate nuance.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Fraud falls apart when asked to prove learning agility or show authentic behavior.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: Given this is the Total Talent podcast, music analogy time.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: Anyone can download a guitar app.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: One strum, and you feel like slash.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: But step on stage and play Sweet Child of Mine Live, different story.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: Truth bomb three.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: Panic about candidate fraud is a distraction from our real job.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: Recruiters are exhausted by constant risk alerts.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: AI will steal your job.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: AI will lie to you.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: AI will destroy hiring.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: AI will cheat the process.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: AI will eat your cat.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Here is the real danger.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Fear stunts innovation.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: Panic prevents experimentation.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: An obsession with fraud turns TI into compliance cops instead of strategic business partners.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: Modern talent leaders need to be the champions of AI literacy.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: The co-pilots of intelligent automation.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: The designers of better human-centric experiences.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: The ones who keep our foot firmly on the acceleration pedal.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: Take your hands off the tech steering wheel, and someone else will drive the car straight into a brick wall.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: We are here to guide the shift, not run screaming from it.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: The great reality check.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: Fraud exists, always has, always will.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: People lie, systems catch them.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: Sometimes systems miss one, and then people catch them.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: Welcome to recruitment since the invention of paper.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: Workplace 5.0 is defined by trust, creativity, human enrichment, adaptive intelligence, and total talent agility.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: When done right, it is nearly impossible for fraudulent candidates to slide through.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: It's that many orgs never invested in robust hiring maturity in the first place.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: Let's break down the crisis claims.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: Number one, AI generated regimes are everywhere.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: Look, so are badly written ones.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: We still screen with human judgment.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: We prioritize interviews and evidence.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: A resume isn't a decision.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: It's an invitation to a conversation.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: Number two.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: Voice cloning can fool recruiters.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: Only if your interviews require zero critical thought.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: Ask real life questions, lived experience questions.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: Ask why they made a decision.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: Ask about personal failures.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: Ask what they learned.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: A deep fake can't improvise vulnerability.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: Number three.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: Credential fraud will destroy us.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: This is silly.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: HR teams have been validating credentials since dial up.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: I want to move on now to a real conversation recruiters need to have.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: Hiring complexity is skyrocketing.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: Remote talent, skill volidarity, AI workforce augmentation, global competition, nonlinear careers, and skills that expire like milk in the sun.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: Fraud talk distracts from what really matters here, and what matters today and beyond.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: Talent intelligence, workforce planning, capability building, technology enablement, and most importantly, human machine collaboration.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: We need to build workplaces worth being honest to.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: So here's my five rules for not freaking out.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: Number one, keep structured hiring sacred, not boring.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: Never boring, but sacred.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: Let interviews be human.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: Now I've embraced a genetic AI.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: I have an AI agent that interviews candidates.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: There is still human intervention.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: And that connection reveals truth.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: The AI should never make a decision.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: Double down on onboarding verification.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: And most decent platforms will do this for you.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: Identity confirms, and where you come in is performance.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: Performance verifies.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: Number four, stop turning every problem into a cybersecurity TED talk and flooding LinkedIn.
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: Honestly, recruitment isn't the FBI, and we need to stop.
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: We need to stop the fear mongering.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: And number five, this is my most important one.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: Lead AI education for the business and particularly for your hiring managers.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: Because as always, confidence will beat paranoia.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: So from fear to fire.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: Talonacquisition is not here to play defense.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: We are offense, right?
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: Frontline performers.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: We're the ones with earplugs in, ready for the next riff.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: The real danger in letting fear pick the playlist, that is the real danger.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: Fear tightens processes until candidates suffocate.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: Fear eliminates opportunity.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: Fear kills an innovation culture.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: And fear keeps our industry stuck in 1998.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: Our role in Workplace 5.0 is to take AI by the handlebars.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: Embrace the experimentation.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: Elevate human capability.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: And make hiring smarter, not scarier.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: Candidate fraud isn't the boss fight, it's a side quest.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: The main campaign is transforming work, not building electric fences around it.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: So again, a huge thanks for tuning into Eden Haddock Total Talent.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: If this episode gave you a little spark, please go ahead and drop five stars, or share it with your fellow talent rock stars, or scream it into the void of your favorite HR WhatsApp group.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: I'm Eden Haddock, riding bikes, rocking mics, changing how we think about the power of people at work.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: Stay bold, stay curious, stay very unfraudulent, and catch you next time.
