- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. And Yvonne too.
- 0:15Which means it must be Friday. Happy Friday, Proverbs.
- 0:19And it must be time for Proverb. We're going to take a break from
- 0:22the apocalyptic literature of Daniel to something much more
- 0:25straightforward. Yes, yesterday's reading, it was
- 0:30a little bit stunned. And we haven't even got into the
- 0:33four headed beast. That's that's Monday's joy.
- 0:36Oh. Dear.
- 0:37But for now, we are going to travel back in time, sit down at
- 0:41the feet of the king, and here 6 proverbs to brighten our day and
- 0:47make us wiser people. So you ready?
- 0:50I'm ready. Let us read together Proverbs 19
- 0:55seven to 12. The relatives of the poor
- 1:07despise them. How much more will their friends
- 1:10avoid them? Though the poor plead with them,
- 1:13their friends are gone. To acquire wisdom is to love
- 1:18yourself. People who cherish understanding
- 1:22will prosper. A false witness will not go
- 1:26unpunished, and a liar will be destroyed.
- 1:31It isn't right for a fool to live in luxury or for a slave to
- 1:35rule over Princess. Sensible people control their
- 1:42temper. They earn respect by overlooking
- 1:45wrongs. The King's anger is like a
- 1:50lion's roar, but his favour is like Jew on the grass.
- 1:58And again. The relatives of the poor
- 2:02despise them. How much more will their friends
- 2:05avoid them? Though the poor plead with them,
- 2:09their friends are gone. To acquire wisdom is to love
- 2:15yourself. People who cherish understanding
- 2:18will prosper. A false witness will not go
- 2:23unpunished, and a liar will be destroyed.
- 2:27It isn't right for a fool to live in luxury or for a slave to
- 2:31rule over Princess. Sensible people control their
- 2:37temper. They earn respect by overlooking
- 2:40wrongs. The King's anger is like a
- 2:44lion's roar, but his favour is like dew on the grass.
- 2:59What really resonates for me out of that is this talk about
- 3:03overlooking wrongs, how that's how we earn respect, not by
- 3:07getting justice or fighting for right, but by being gracious and
- 3:11overlooking the wrongs of each other.
- 3:14I liked the people who cherish Understanding Will Prosper and I
- 3:18guess that follows on from that idea, but part of overlooking
- 3:22wrongs is if you try and have a deeper understanding about
- 3:26what's happening. And favour, Favour is as lovely
- 3:30as dew on the grass. That life giving moisture that
- 3:33keeps the world green. Ah.
- 3:35So poetic. So poetic.
- 3:37Our Holy Spirit, thank you for your wisdom.
- 3:41I pray that we would have a larger dose today as we go about
- 3:45living our day, as we overlook the wrongs and the challenges
- 3:50that are laid before us by the people we're surrounded by.
- 3:55That we could put our anger and righteousness aside and go the
- 3:58way of grace and understanding. And may that fall like dew on
- 4:05grass, bringing new life and sustenance around to us and to
- 4:10our days. We love you and we thank you for
- 4:13authoring this and being the first to bring sustenance to us.
- 4:17So we bask in the glory of your grace and pray all these things
- 4:21in your name, Jesus, Amen.
