Transcript
- 0:18Hello, and welcome to Gatesleepers, the pop culture game show that shines a
- 0:22spotlight onto everyone's favorite fandoms. I'm your games master and beach in cell Mats
- 0:27Watson. But of course we couldn't play these games without our team captains,
- 0:33a pair of fashion icons who can do whatever they set their minds to,
- 0:37providing it's an existing industry under late stage capitalism. Yes, first, this
- 0:43barbie has seven separate depression diagnoses. It's Audra Stevenson. Hello, and I
- 0:48refuse to believe each of them in turn. And this Barbie is actually a
- 0:55Ken in disguise. Get him. It's Jason Nowyn. Hi, I'm a
- 0:58Ken without a bar and that's my life. Okay, yeah, yeah,
- 1:02you're just instantly starting like first act yeah, not redeemed third act Ken.
- 1:06Yeah, well, I mean third act Ken. He's finding himself, yeah,
- 1:10and I think he We're going to get into that part too, I
- 1:14think later. Yeah, yeah, this is actually therapy. Good. Hello,
- 1:18Captains, are you ready for a series of games about a fashion doll
- 1:22that made things better for women than worse for women and now a complex mix
- 1:26of both better and worse for women. But that's sort of the point.
- 1:29Yeah. Yeah, like I'm very much a boy. I'm very much a
- 1:33ken and not not to out myself there, but like I never played with
- 1:38Barbies, but all boys toys don't make me feel like that. Like there's
- 1:44not a lot of emotional and societal change happening around the Transformers franchise, you
- 1:49know what I mean, or bionicles or anything like that. She freed some
- 1:53of the essays I've read. But yeah, and that's in preparation for the
- 1:57Transformers fandom episode. Yeah, definitely will happen. Yeah, but I mean
- 2:01i'd like to I'd like to get some perspective from die hard lifelong fans.
- 2:06Yeah, because it's interesting and ultra does that? Does that sum you up?
- 2:08Are you a die hard lifelong Bobby fan. I did have Barbies throughout
- 2:13my entire life. I think I left Barbie World when I was like when
- 2:19I thought I was edgy, Like there was a time period in my life
- 2:22when I believed myself to be very hardcore and so Barbie was not for me.
- 2:25But I came back. I came back around. Yeah. Big.
- 2:30That's an interesting way. That's that's an interesting way to describe your relationship with
- 2:34Matt. You know like it really into Barbies all throughout your life. Yeah,
- 2:38I had one hanging around your arm. I didn't know. I didn't
- 2:40know how you felt about it. Yeah. Oh, it's a dig about
- 2:46a very strong and secure relationship, absolutely wanting that in my face. Ye.
- 2:53Humor has to have a nugget of truth to it. Okay, yeah,
- 2:55okay, Well, Bobbies. To play these games about Bob, you'll
- 3:00each need to pair up with other Barbies from around the world, mainly mainly
- 3:04England. Jason, who is your teammates today, she's the first time player.
- 3:08We love those as a lifelong Barbie fan. And we should mention Matt's
- 3:12sister, although you can tell from the name about to say, it's Lydia
- 3:15Watson. Hello, Lydia the podcast. Hello, thank you so much for
- 3:20having me. It's it's a pleasure to finally have you here. I feel
- 3:23like, yeah, it's I should have extended an invite earlier than this,
- 3:27and as your as your brother, I feel guilty for not doing No,
- 3:30that's okay. I feel like you were waiting for the perfect topic and I
- 3:34think I think this was a This was the one, perfect perfect Absolutely,
- 3:38I'll take that to cover up my lack of organizing. So Lydia Bobbie,
- 3:45have you have you also been a lifelong fan? Yeah? I think I
- 3:49also had a similar experience per Audra, where I like, I don't actually
- 3:53think I had that many Barbies. I did always, Matt, I don't
- 3:57know if you remember this, but like when Nana would make our birthday cake,
- 4:00she'd always put the Bobby she put like a Bobby doll my cake.
- 4:05Yeah, I had one of those. Yeah that's really cool. Yeah,
- 4:10that's really cool. Yeah. And then I also like the like straight to
- 4:14DVD Bobby movies were like very much. I would watch at least one per
- 4:19day every day, So like, yeah, two years that, I'm sure
- 4:26you do. I'm sure you do. Yeah. I did recently learn that
- 4:30our mother gave away my Bobby DVD box set to another person. So it's
- 4:36going to take me a long time to give her for that because that would
- 4:39have come in to watch because refresh the memory for this day. Yeah,
- 4:45definitely you could have binged all of those Bobbies. I could have and I
- 4:47would have. And how let's talk contemporary Bobby as well. Did you see
- 4:53Gretta go Wiggs Masterpiece? Yes? I did, I did it was wonderful.
- 4:59Yes, I saw Openheimer and then I saw Bobby, and that was
- 5:00a clear winner of the two. And it was definitely Bobby. Yes,
- 5:05we're not doing a nuclear physics themed show today, No, definitely not.
- 5:11We know who on exactly. Yeah, yeah it was. It was very
- 5:15joyful and just I love a silly film like I just love it when films.
- 5:18Yeah, so silly, and that's what this did. So yeah,
- 5:23it was good. And they talk about them. Heck, yeah, it's
- 5:26good to hear. I think you will be a good teammate for Jason,
- 5:28who seems to admittedly know nothing. I mean, it isn't about Oppenheimer.
- 5:31This isn't just hell out of here. Then fantastic stuff. And Audra who
- 5:39is joining you? They are a returning player, an actor, a writer,
- 5:44a Ricketty Fidget. It's al Atkinson. Hello, al oh, how
- 5:48are you doing. Welcome to the podcast. I'm good. Thank you for
- 5:51having me on again. Yeah, of course you did the Shrek episode I
- 5:56believe ye, yes, yes, and so this is you continue in the
- 6:00streak of like Toysarro's Childhood's kind of aisles things here. Yeah. I don't
- 6:05know what that says about me, but the toy episodes. We'll look at
- 6:13me and you're like, an, they've put a lot of toys. Absolutely,
- 6:16I mean, is it is it true? Did you have Barbies growing
- 6:20up? I did? I did. I had had a lot of Barbies.
- 6:26Yeah, still has them in like a box in our garage and won't
- 6:31get rid of them. Okay, so they weren't given away at least spectrum.
- 6:36You could reclaim your childhood, should you. My brother did so.
- 6:40We had the VHS of the Barbie movies, which I think would be a
- 6:45flexace that my brother has taken them. He's moved out with the only VHS
- 6:49player I think left in the universe that is now he knows quality. Yeah,
- 6:58that's mine and that everyone knows that now it's on the record. Yeah,
- 7:05and did you also have that that stage like lydia an order of like,
- 7:10yeah, I'm too cool for Barbie now. I don't know if I
- 7:12was ever cool. I don't think, Okay, you are, you are
- 7:17now, you are now, So at some point it must have happened,
- 7:23because I think I went I went from Barby to then being very into musical
- 7:30theater, like very into musical theater. So I don't think I got to
- 7:34be a cool teenager. I think I just went to street from like to
- 7:40some nerd that's relatable. Yeah, yeah, yeah, And as far as
- 7:47you know, a zeitgeist goes. Have you seen Barbie twenty twenty three?
- 7:51Yes, yeah, I like fantastic good Oh yes, yeah. I realized
- 7:56I made it a loaded thing by calling it a masterpiece to there is making
- 8:01no room for anyone to criticize. I am very afraid doesn't create an open
- 8:07space for conversation. But that's yeah, it's myself on the rest, a
- 8:11little gate keepery. Look, you'll be helping out, helping out Audre and
- 8:16I feel like we've maybe got a favorite team here to potentially win, to
- 8:20like raise the stakes. I'm just trying to create a narrative. Yeah,
- 8:26there's a Barbie and a Cannon our team, you know what I mean.
- 8:31You know, I'm so excited to carry this team, Jason. I have
- 8:37a lot of positive outlook on life. And that's what fair enough? Fair
- 8:43enough. It's a non binary Barby, a Corby or a Ben or a
- 8:48Ben. It's catchy. It's catchy. It is. Yeah. I think
- 8:56Carby is cooler though, because it sounds like I might be able to turn
- 8:58into a which I would like to Yes, part Transformers just non binary Barbie.
- 9:09Look, those are the essays I've read about how Transformers are genderist and
- 9:13help help break down the gender spectrum. Credible work. Okay, teams,
- 9:18before we talk more about Transformers, before we continue on our adventure, we
- 9:24need to start having an existential crisis. So I'd like each pair to come
- 9:28up with a Barbie themed team name. Please. Let's start with Jason and
- 9:31Lydia. Have you got any ideas? Jason, Yes, I thought of
- 9:35these right before we got into this room. So Lydia, tell me what
- 9:39you think about these. The blonde fragilities doesn't make it, doesn't, But
- 9:48I was thinking of Adre as I wrote it down. I've got the cellulite
- 9:52sirens, which might make a lot of sense for us. Yeah, yeah,
- 9:56yeah, proud, And then assuming things about Lydia. Yeah, everyone
- 10:03has cellulite, I think. And then I just I feel like you're gonna
- 10:09shoot this down, and that's okay. I just want to say it out
- 10:11loud. Barbies nuts, that's what I wrote down. Like these nuts,
- 10:16Yeah, like these nuts. Yeah, I think these nuts. Yeah,
- 10:20I think that one's my favorite. Actually, Jason, this is great.
- 10:24Yeah, before we before we settle, do you have any ideas, Lydia
- 10:28please for a Bobby theme team name? No, I think I think Jason's
- 10:33got it covered. I think ye leave this one to the Kens. Yeah,
- 10:37that sounds like a job for a man. So I'm gonna let Jason
- 10:41do that. That sounds like a Ken job. So yeah, I'm good
- 10:46with that. Yeah, yeah, I'm good with all right. I'm writing
- 10:52it down. It's Bobby's nuts. Yeah, he's nuts. I mean in
- 11:00this episode he whoops as he holds up a mocktail energy. Okay, good
- 11:07stuff. So we've got Barbie's nuts, but who will they be facing ultra
- 11:11l I did have a couple bar A instead of Barbie, because we're one
- 11:16step better? Is good. Sugar's Daddies it's in the film, but is
- 11:22also a discontinued Barbie where there's a Ken but he has a dog named Sugar
- 11:28and he is called Sugar's daddy, but he is So you're Sugar Daddy.
- 11:33You want the daddies? Yes, I am Kenneth and Mojodojo Kasa house.
- 11:39I gotta Sugars daddies. Really, that's what I was hoping unless you have
- 11:46any other ideas, I just like to be prepared. I absolutely have no
- 11:52ideas. I've never had one ever in my life. Relate. So the
- 11:58fantastic minds for quoizing Sugar's Daddy's I love it. A lot of male representation
- 12:07in the team names right now. Well, the Bobby film did end up
- 12:11being about Canna a lot. So we've got Barbie's nuts versus Sugar's Daddy's.
- 12:22We got apostrophes doing a lot of work, all right. And if you're
- 12:26listening to this and thinking I was raised male coded, so I don't know
- 12:31my Barbie from my pub wasp. Yeah, yeah, it's oh, I
- 12:39just got it. Don't worry. Is Audra with a little segment we like
- 12:43to call passing knowledge. Barbie is a fashion doll created by American businesswoman Ruth
- 12:50Handler, manufactured by Mattel and launched in nineteen fifty nine. Barbie became an
- 12:56instant hit among young girls as Mattel followed the teachings of Chairman Mao and targeted
- 13:01the hearts and minds of our children. Hi Bobby, Hi Barbie, Hi
- 13:05Barbie? Hi can I can Hi? Can I can? I can cool?
- 13:11Initially serving as a feminist icon brand, Barbie has fluctuated between helping and
- 13:18hindering the fight for gender equality under capitalism, you know, kind of like
- 13:22Miley Cyrus. On one hand, Barbie went to space before women could have
- 13:26their own bank account. But equally Barbie still said I can't work computers in
- 13:31like twenty fourteen, though I won't let you do just one appendect me.
- 13:37But I'm a man, but not a doctor. Can I talk to a
- 13:39doctor? You are talking to a doctor. The brand has expanded into a
- 13:41multimedia franchise since about the late nineteen eighties, including video games, computer animated
- 13:48films, and, of course, Greta Gerwigs Barbie released just this year,
- 13:54a film that has now become the highest grossing film of twenty twenty three.
- 13:58Oh my god, Gretta is sinophile autter Barbie, and I am here for
- 14:03her. This Barbie is slaying at the box office. Come into my weird
- 14:09house. Hi, I'm weird Barbie. I am in the splits. I
- 14:11have a funky haircut and I smell like basement. Oh my god, I
- 14:15had a weird Barbie. Yeah you did? You make them weird by playing
- 14:18too on? It's cool. This year's Barbie Mania has sparked Barbie Core,
- 14:24a fashion trend inspired by Barbie, as well as a fem subgenre of the
- 14:28thrash metal scene. So let's jump into the world of Barbie, knowing it's
- 14:33going to be chuggy and problematic again in about six months. Yes, thank
- 14:41you, Audre. Was it fun researching the history of Bobby. Yes,
- 14:46there's on the like one hand of feminism and other hand of feminism. There's
- 14:50a lot of stuff that is great and not so great, but there's a
- 14:54lot of pretty solid stuff as far as Barbie goes historically. Is a tiny,
- 15:01tiny bit of all the information that was found about Barbie. Yes,
- 15:05yeah, that's that sums up Bobby pretty pretty much. And the best things
- 15:09in our times? Do you seem to be both terrible and amazing. Yeah.
- 15:13Like Barbie's inventor, Ruth Handler, I mentioned like nineteen fifty nine,
- 15:18but it was like seventy four before women had codified in law, could open
- 15:24a bank account, could manage their own funds. A lot of banks did
- 15:28it, Like six mid sixties, a lot of banks were doing it.
- 15:33But any bank could just say you're a woman, you don't get a bank
- 15:35account, and so there was like an amount of time between Barbie the biggest
- 15:41doll ever, like one of the biggest toys of all time, where it
- 15:46was invented and then the inventor could have a bank account. Yea, so
- 15:50wild stuff. Yeah, Ruth Handler had looked at girls toys and just saw
- 15:56babies and and like motherhood base things. And I think from memory the origin
- 16:03of Barbie was she went to a European country. Yeah, and there was
- 16:08like this famous icon and she brought that hack and who Yeah, and we're
- 16:15gonna make that a doll for kids, and that like in a pitch in
- 16:18itself in a boardroom full of men, is pretty fucking metal, and I
- 16:22like and it's just just shout out to the toys that made us. That's
- 16:30a very cool, like documentary series. They have an episode of Barbie and
- 16:32it's it's very interesting to find out the origin of that happen. I should
- 16:37have watched that before doing this. We all have homework now. The best
- 16:44Gately first episodes come with homework. Just before we get to today's games,
- 16:48I've asked each player to bring in a muse that's something that inspires them or
- 16:52something they love from this particular fandom. Bobby is inspiring to me because actually,
- 16:59you know, this isn't about me as someone who largely presents Ken.
- 17:03We all know who should be speaking when it comes to Bobby and inspiration.
- 17:08Me having said that, I don't want to break off format because that would
- 17:12physically pain me more than you know social faux pas. So Jason, what's
- 17:18inspiring you for me? Ken? To go? First? Lather boy in
- 17:23the room? Oh boy, this is bad. I didn't grow up with
- 17:29a lot of Barbie, but watching Gretick orwigs Barbie, I don't know.
- 17:32Is this the cliche? Is this is stereotypical. I really enjoyed like Ken's
- 17:36journey in that it The ironic thing about that is it. It spoke to
- 17:40me in the way that, like Ryan Gossling's Ken is so pathetic and that
- 17:45speaks to me. But also the interesting part of that is not only do
- 17:48I follow his journey and the struggles with the patriarchy and and hegemonic masculinity that
- 17:55he goes through, but if anything, I come out of that movie going
- 17:57Okay, Ken socks uh and is going through his own things and I should
- 18:02be going through my own things. But really, Barbie here is the person
- 18:03to mottos yourself after and and look at you know what kind of look,
- 18:07kind of journey that goes through and she's our hero and stuff like that.
- 18:11Yeah. So I really enjoy that. Despite the Barbie moving being something about
- 18:18you know, women and feminism and what the Barbie franchise means to women,
- 18:22like, it also allows and like me to be like, ah, that's
- 18:26what this is about because I have no idea, you know, really realistic.
- 18:32That's that's that's awesome. I'm not going into a Transformers movie and I'm
- 18:37learn about feminism and you know, the Transformers film doesn't say, wow,
- 18:42the patriarchy sucks for me too, really says all of that, all of
- 18:48us back like ten years. Yeah. Absolutely brain energy. So no,
- 18:52I love the new movie And can I stop talking about Yeah yeah, no,
- 18:59that's great. That's a great and it's good to hear that Greta go
- 19:02Wick achieved what she set out to do, I suppose as far as male
- 19:06audience is concerned. So good stuff, Very inspiring. We'll move on over
- 19:10to your Barbie's Nuts teammate, Lydia, What is inspiring you from the world
- 19:15of Bobby Mine? Is a little more chaotic than station. It is a
- 19:21character from a couple of the like older like straight to DVD movies. In
- 19:27particular, I think he's in Bobby fairy Topia and then the spin off of
- 19:33that, which is Bobbie Mermaidia, where the fairy turns into a mermaid.
- 19:37It's crazy. I don't know if you guys are familiar with Bibble. He's
- 19:45like, he's a little blue guy. He looks, Oh, he won't
- 19:49be able to see it, probably he looks like this, you can see
- 19:52the like blood. Yeah, yeah, this little tiny who fuck is just
- 20:00like on he's on drugs, like there is no other explanation for it.
- 20:07His eyes are wide, he's like zooming around the place. He adds very
- 20:11very little to the plot. He's just having a good time, which is
- 20:15how high I'm trying to live my life. I'm just trying to be there.
- 20:21I'm not trying to, you know, influence anything. I'm just trying
- 20:23to have a good time and try and not guy he's very delicate, which
- 20:30I also relate to. So he's like fighting for his life a lot of
- 20:33the time, which to me is also relatable. But he always he always
- 20:37gets through it. So that's that's my My music is Bibble. What a
- 20:41fantastic animal? Yeah that little that little blue. Fuck, yeah, that's
- 20:48what he is. Yeah, that's what you say. Is that like a
- 20:52creature? Is that a sentient hum? I think I think his species name
- 20:59is a possible. Okay, I think that's and it describes him really well,
- 21:03that is a possible. And yes, just like blue and fuzzy and
- 21:10he's very round, like you could just pick him up like this, and
- 21:12I think he'll be really satisfying. And yeah, that's just he's just a
- 21:17possible. He is in and of himself. I was going to say that
- 21:21there aren't any others, but then I think he does get a girlfriend,
- 21:23like later on. I don't remember what her name is, but she's pink.
- 21:27So you notice the girl. Yeah, honestly, Pibble is a good
- 21:33shout. Yeah yeah, yeah, good good mus It's always good. I
- 21:41love the muses that are like being inspired by a niche character because I love
- 21:45that feeling of, like, I know, I feel like I'm the only
- 21:47one obsessed with this. Ye, fantastic stuff. Okay, let's see what
- 21:52Sugar's daddy's are being inspired by. And we'll begin with l what's inspiring you
- 21:57from the world of Barbie. I inspired by the audacity of the Barbie Rapunzo.
- 22:06Okay, not not Rapunzel Barbie, but the Barbie who at the start
- 22:10is in the valley lesson and it's like, I'm going to tell you a
- 22:11story that's really going to help you with your Arabesque or whatever, and then
- 22:15proceeds to tell like an hour and a half of nonsense about duggins and paintbrushes
- 22:22and got nothing to do with Rapunzel. She complete her way through walls and
- 22:26then little kid and is like, can you dance now? And the kid's
- 22:30like, yeah, okay, yeah, because I was practicing the whole time.
- 22:36It's a very long, random story that's got nothing to do with Bally.
- 22:42I want to live like the fucking goal. Oh that's so good.
- 22:53I love as Like did that register with you as a kid when you were
- 22:56watching it, or is that something that like in hindsight, you'd be like,
- 23:00she wasn't teaching her a goddamn thing. I don't know. I know
- 23:04I was a kid. It was one of my favorite films. It is
- 23:07a buyer. Yeah, I must have been in hindsight. I don't think
- 23:11it's a kid. I saw anything aside from I want to see this dragon
- 23:15again and the weird rabbit, the really angry rabbit doing weird He was a
- 23:21weirdo. Yeah, hey, bibble one. I wish he was, but
- 23:27he isn't. Just adding more chaos. Good good news. Yeah again at
- 23:36the little childhood moment of being like what what is this? And Bobby Rapunzel,
- 23:41that's when I recognize from the Endless rewatches as well. It's so finally
- 23:48we will move to Audra, the second member of Sugars Daddies. What is
- 23:52inspiring you from Bobby? I am inspired by Barbie as a child free icon't
- 23:59as someone who is child free by choice. I have never wanted to have
- 24:03children, and I won't, but they've wanted. Mattel wanted Ruth Handler to
- 24:10make Barbie have kids at one point, and she's like no. They're like
- 24:14no, but we need to show all the paths that little girls can have
- 24:18in their life, and so we're giving her all these jobs. But we
- 24:19haven't done. Mother and her just saying little girls don't need me to remind
- 24:25them of that. Little girls need to be told that they can be an
- 24:30astronaut or a doctor or like all of the things that Barbie has done.
- 24:36That's what girls need to be reminded of. And so heck, yes,
- 24:41Barbie is a child free icon. I even Matt and I went to see
- 24:45it with one of my co workers. I work in an all female team
- 24:48in STEM and her and I currently I am child free. She is currently
- 24:53child free. Like we went together to see the Barbie movie All in Pink.
- 25:00It was amazing, It was very good. It is a good time.
- 25:03Is a good moment. Yeah, oldre could I ask, being like,
- 25:06I know you've been doing recess and stuff. Is that why they made
- 25:10Midge like the prims like yes character to like avoid having it the Bobby.
- 25:15It's like, oh, it's it's an all Bobby, It's said someone else.
- 25:18Yes. So they invented Midge to be a pregnant Barbie like Barbie Doll.
- 25:25The compromise was they would have Midge who would have kids, and Skipper
- 25:29as Barbie's little sister, right, so that she's like in a child role.
- 25:33There is a child role in Barbie's life. It is not a baby,
- 25:37but it is a younger version that she can show care for. And
- 25:41then we'll make this other body horror doll. You remove the plastic stomach and
- 25:48extract the gross, gross fertilized through the line a brand. Bobby, Yes,
- 26:00absolutely, I mean it just was a weird thing, unhinged. That
- 26:06that is worse than like the pooping dog. I think is fine. I
- 26:08don't know why they just continued that. I think that's a great toy.
- 26:11Yeah, but the idea of like doing a C section like six years old,
- 26:19just like performing surgery on your Bobby. Honestly, if they framed that
- 26:25as do you want to be a surgeon like I would, that would have
- 26:29been good because it could give you stem I want an epidural. We're a
- 26:40natural household. You're not getting Wait a moment, Bobby, Yeah, great,
- 26:48great mus Bobby Childfrey, very good. Yeah, absolutely, Yeah.
- 26:52That was the thing. This this summer is just like finally women were allowed
- 26:56to go to the cinema and it was nice to see. It was like
- 26:59we got bank counts in nineteen seventy four twenty twenty three of the year we
- 27:03were allowed to go to the movie. Right, teams, let's take a
- 27:07series of vehicles in a sort of endless audio tracking shot as we montage our
- 27:12way into round one. Round one is called can you find the real answers?
- 27:22Can you? Can you? Can you? Yeah? It works?
- 27:26Can you? In this game, I will name a category related to the
- 27:30world of Barbie and then offer each team a list of five things supposedly from
- 27:34that category. It's up to our pairs to select the real list items until
- 27:38they found all three for a potential total of three points. But they must
- 27:44avoid the two wrong answers that I made up while sitting through Oppenheimer. You've
- 27:49got to do something to pass the time. Say one of those incorrect answers,
- 27:55and you'll be frozen out of the list and have to wait until the
- 27:57next category. So we will be in with Barbie's Nuts, and the first
- 28:02category for both teams is Barbie Playsets. Still laughing at Barbie's Nuts, shut
- 28:07up, I forgot. So we're beginning with Barbie playsets. Three of these
- 28:15will be real, two of them will be fake. Jason and Lydia,
- 28:18here is your list. Cool Aid, Barbie, Hog Farmer Barbie, George
- 28:23Washington, Barbie Haunted Beauty Mistress of the Manor Barbie, and Lockheed Martin Barbie.
- 28:30WHOA, that's touff. None of those should be real. It's upsetting
- 28:37any ideas, any initial ideas. I feel like a spooky Barbie could exist.
- 28:41Yeah, most high and these kind of you know, blah blah blah.
- 28:45The only thing that alerts me of that is its name is so long,
- 28:48but everything else is like cool Aid Barbie, locked Martin Barbie, blah
- 28:52blah blah. Yeah. Thought, I do feel like some of them,
- 28:56some of the places that places were like weirdly named, like really elaborately named
- 29:02like that, so I could see it being real. I just don't know
- 29:06if they would call Barbby like what was it like, mistress it was,
- 29:08yeah, haunted beauty, mistress of the manor Barby. Well maybe mistress of
- 29:14the manor maybe. Yeah. I feel like kool Aid Barbie because remember like
- 29:18all the water changing like toy sets that we came out when we were kids.
- 29:22Yeah, yeah that's true. Yeah that could be. There was a
- 29:27lot of water, lot of warring kids toys. Yeah. I doing with
- 29:33that one just to see if one of them is right. Yeah, sure,
- 29:36okay, okay, yeah, you're gonna go. You're gonna go with
- 29:37Koolate Barbi is one of them. Kool Aid Barby was real. Yeah,
- 29:41absolutely one of the early product tie In Barbies. Nice. Really you got
- 29:47a point there. You have remaining hog Farmer Barbie, George Washington Barbie,
- 29:52Haunted Beauty Mistress of the manor Barbie, and Lockheed Martin Barbie. Are you
- 29:56familiar with Lockheed Martin? Oh? Yeah, as a as a company,
- 30:00I am not. Okay, so we have them here. Lockheed Martin,
- 30:03from what I understand, is an aerospace based company that does engineering on a
- 30:11lot of military contracts as well. Okay, okay, that's what I Yeah,
- 30:18And I mean, this is one of those ones where I could see
- 30:22Matt being like, uh, the military industrial complex, capitalism. That's a
- 30:27fun Matt said, yeah, that's a good joke of But I could also
- 30:37see it being honestly real because Lockheed Martin, I don't know, there's like
- 30:41air Stewardess Barbie or something like that. Right, Yeah, there's there's a
- 30:45big, big difference between being an astutes and making yea yeah, this Barbie
- 30:53helps you in the sky, this Barbie's drone strikes. It could have been
- 30:56framed as like a Delbos moment. Yeah, like yeah, you know,
- 31:00like yeah, yeah, yeah, I feel like, do you ever see
- 31:06Barbie being a hog Farmer. Honestly, yeah, I feel I do kind
- 31:10of feel like that one's real. I feel like I feel like hog Farmer
- 31:12is a little bit specific. I feel like Farmer Bobby I could find of
- 31:18I could see how they could make those outfits cute, you know, like
- 31:21the overalls and like you know, she's like getting out yeah you know,
- 31:25yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, let's do it. I'm going with
- 31:26hog Farmer Bobby. Yeah, that's incorrect. I'm so sorry. Frozen out
- 31:32of the list. Hog Farmer Bobby was made up? What were the ones
- 31:33that were real? You found coool aid Bobby. You also had George Washington.
- 31:37Bobby was real, just dressed up like George Washington. Yeah, that's
- 31:41crazy. Haunted Beauty Mistress of the Man of Bobby was also trade It was
- 31:48real, real, Okay, okay, Martin was a mat Yeah, I'm
- 31:55glad we would have been wrong either way. Were the ones we were discovering.
- 31:57So yes, it's all yeah, there we go. Okay, No,
- 32:00No, it's tough. These there's so many things that barbies. I
- 32:04feel like Bobby did have a little pig, and there we shows a hog
- 32:07Farmer. He definitely had a little pig. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 32:16not Hog Farmer Barbie, Bobbie. Look just one pig title micro Pig Owner
- 32:23Barbie problematic. Yeah, pretty much. Start keeping up the trend. Let's
- 32:31let's move on to Sugar's Daddies, and here is your list of Barbie playsets.
- 32:37Nike Barbie, Rapping Rockin Barbie, Oreo Barbie, Taylor Swift Barbie,
- 32:44and Happy Birthday Can Barbie. I know one of these. M I know
- 32:50Oreo Barbie is real, Okay, that's as far as I go. But
- 32:54I think Taylor Swift Bobby is fake. Okay, cool, cook, cook
- 32:59cool? So I mean, do you want to do you want to punt
- 33:00for the real one? Yeah, we can. We can lock in the
- 33:04Oreo Barbie then yeah, I'll just won't raise any suspense. It's already correct.
- 33:08Yes, good stuff. Yes, what do you know about Oreo Bobby.
- 33:14There was one released in ninety something, and then early two thousands they
- 33:22did another release. I know this because they the nineties one was only a
- 33:27white Barbie, and then they made both a white and a black Barbie,
- 33:30and so I saw all of them, yeah, all of and it was
- 33:37one of those specific releases in which Barbie was not white. Is hence on
- 33:40the problematic ende. So, like, what what made her Oreo Bobby?
- 33:46Was she dressed like an Oreo or like she was dressed like an Ion?
- 33:50Yeah, all in like that bright blue and white, and like there was
- 33:54like Oreo logos on her jacket and like her purse might have been an Oreo.
- 34:00You actually, yeah, I would. I would get an Oreo bok.
- 34:04I would. Yeah. I'm glad you guys think so, because I'm
- 34:07listening to and this is the original white Barbie, right because I'm listening to
- 34:10this and I'm like, thank god they put the Oreo logo on it,
- 34:14because otherwise she's cream in the middle Barbie. Not great naming or yeah,
- 34:21yeah, the the messy things that happen when you combine one brand with another
- 34:24to try and sell products. Yeah, it's just a crossover episode gone wrong.
- 34:30So you've got you've got Oreo Bobby. You have remaining Nike Bobbie,
- 34:35Rappin' Rockin' Barbie, Taylor Swift Barbie, and Happy Birthday Can Barbie. I
- 34:42believe Rappin' rockin and also Happy Birthday Can would be real. I to have
- 34:46a birthday. He must, he simply must. It's something else for Bobby
- 34:53to organize. Yeah, I do feel like I have some vague memory of
- 34:59rappin rocking Barbie. Yeah, I had a I saw, well, I
- 35:02didn't have it, but I saw a tour van once that they had like
- 35:07a dream house and it was a van like for so that it's fun.
- 35:14I feel like there was an advert where Bobby, like I had a guitar
- 35:16and it was like a spinny platform. M hm, yes, I saw
- 35:21that you could you could yeah, m So, I feel like Rappin' rock
- 35:24and Barbie feels the most tangible to me. Yeah, I'm embarrassing if I'm
- 35:30wrong. Up collective delusion Hotel. I remember this commercial of Oreo Barbie.
- 35:42You dipped her in milk and then so you're going with rapping rock and Bobbie
- 35:49is reel. Yeah, rapping rock and Bobbie is reel. Okay, very
- 35:52much a product of the late eighties. Sounds like that means that, But
- 35:58it was not for that Bobby. That was for that was a separate Oh
- 36:00yeah, of course, yeah, yeah, it must have been an updated
- 36:04version. I never had the like tour bus, but they got me one
- 36:07of the Barbies and she had like blonde hair. In the front, but
- 36:10you could spin her skull. Okay, her hair pink in the front,
- 36:17so that she had like so you could just like her skull. A lot
- 36:23of body horror and people and with womanhoods. Yeah, yeah, so true.
- 36:30Yeah, to know it early on. Yeah, Okay, So we've
- 36:37got Nike Bobby, Taylor Swift Bobby and happy birthday, can Bobby since you
- 36:42had a memory of potentially a happy birthday? Can no memory. I just
- 36:47feel like the Nike also would make sense because she could be sporty, and
- 36:54Nike does all of those things where it's like, oh, anyone can be
- 36:59you know, they have those like inspiration adverts. They go for that.
- 37:02It's a similar branding style. Yeah, like do anything you want to do.
- 37:07Yeah, that's it. Just want to say to me a matter like
- 37:12Nike has a very famous slogan and hing it right now. You guys are
- 37:16like, yeah, whatever you if you can Nike, you have it.
- 37:21You're aware they didn't pay me. I'm not saying that is very fair,
- 37:30but as far as an answer is concerned, just do it. Thank you.
- 37:37Yeah, let's go with that one. You go with Nike Bobby.
- 37:39Yeah, Nike Bobby is not real real. It was branding opportunity. You
- 37:52really should team up with Nike. It was Happy Birthday, Ken, Bobby
- 37:55was the was the real one. It's the It's the whole maral Monroe singing
- 38:00to JFK Things but done in Barbie Topical barbiees JFK the Ultimate Ken Wild and
- 38:14Taylor Swift had her own line of Barbie style dolls in the two thousands that
- 38:19are just like they're basically Barbie's, but they're not official. That's Wild.
- 38:22Good on. All right, Well, let's let's move on to the next
- 38:24category and back on over to Barbie's nuts. This time it is Barbie straight
- 38:30to DVD movies. Come on, come on, let's go. Three are
- 38:35reel, two are fake. Maybe this one will be a bit more quick
- 38:37fire and rapid. Who knows. Here are your five straight to DVD movie
- 38:42titles. Barbie in Princess Power, Barbie Epic Road Trip, Barbie and the
- 38:47Crystal Fairies, Barbie Space Command, and Barbie and the Magic of the Pegasus.
- 38:54Oh my god, Lydia's face right now? Is I know for a
- 38:58fact? I know for a fact Magic of Pegasus is real because there is
- 39:01a little polar bear in it. Called Shiver and I had her, I
- 39:06had the physical Oh yeah, yeah, So that one, I know for
- 39:12a fact is real and it absolutely is Bobby in the Magic of the Pegasus.
- 39:15There you go, there's a point nice heck. Yeah. The other
- 39:19ones, I feel like we're a little bit later than my time watching because
- 39:24I don't really recognize what do you think? What do you think sounds real?
- 39:29Space Command is the name of buzz Lightyears thing, So it isn't that.
- 39:34Yeah, so that's either super duper fake. Oh no, isn't it?
- 39:37Is it not stock Command, not space Comman? Oh shit, you're
- 39:40right, So it could be. It could be real. It would be
- 39:45Crystal Fairy sounds real because you because earlier we mentioned that there were fairies at
- 39:49one point. Yeah, but none of the fairy films look called that.
- 39:52So I'm sort of like, is this just like a just Matt trying to
- 39:55be tricksy, you know, yeah, trying to throw us up? And
- 40:02what was the other one? You got Bobby in Princess Power and Bobbie Epic
- 40:07road Trip in Princess Power, because like Barbie would hop on the superhero superheroin
- 40:12train, right, Yeah? Yeah, yeah, I do feel like because
- 40:15A lot of them are like Bobby in Something because like all of the straight
- 40:21to DVD movies, she's not Bobby. She is Bobby the actress in these
- 40:25films. So she's playing she's Bobby as an actress. Play. Yeah,
- 40:32she's another layer, a whole layer. Yeah. So I feel like that
- 40:37one could be real based on okay, based on that, but I don't
- 40:42want to. I was wrong the last time, so I don't want to.
- 40:45I'll take the hits. I'll take the hit. So it's Bobby in
- 40:49Princess Power is the one you going, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 40:52this is correct. This is a real movie. I think you're right.
- 40:53I think it was a low key superhero kind kind of one. Okay,
- 40:58okay, okay, Crystal Ferries we don't feel great about. And you've
- 41:02got Space Command and Epic road Trip. Epic road Trip the other I could
- 41:07do it because it's in Space Command, isn't it Bobby Colon Space Command?
- 41:12So it's like Space Command and it's Barbie Colon Epic road Trip. I chose
- 41:17one. I don't know if I've ever seen them, and don't if I've
- 41:21ever seen any Bobby movie stylized that way to be honest, Actually that's not
- 41:27true. The ones that I was talking about where I was like Fairies,
- 41:30it was like Bobby Ferry Tolpia and like Bobby Mermaidia. So I feel like
- 41:35that could also be that could also be real. Barby Space Command, Bobby
- 41:40Space Command. Sure, I made Bobby Space Command up those exact same things
- 41:46it was. But Bobby Epic road Trip is the is the one that was
- 41:50real. I didn't go to that because it sounds mad boring, like what
- 41:53is Bobby on the Road Trip? But could be that interesting? Yeah,
- 41:58it was released in like twenty seventeen at like the Drums of the Barbie Brandy,
- 42:05But you didn't go for Bobbie in the Crystal Fairies, correctly recognizing that
- 42:07I've kind of made something up the other things, you got two points the
- 42:13good. Yeah, we'll move on over to Sugar's Daddy's and they're five titles
- 42:17from direct to DVD Barbie movies. We have Bobbie and the Pink Dress,
- 42:22Bobbie and the Diamond Castle, Bobbie Video Game Hero, Bobbie in Rock and
- 42:30Royals, or Bobbie Raptor Races. Literally every single one of these seems so
- 42:37fake to me and it's Yeah, it's a tough list. Rapture Races.
- 42:45Some reason feels real. We could take a big swing if it is.
- 42:52That's sick. I feel like in for me, it has to be either
- 42:59pink Dress or Diamond Castle. I don't know why I have that in my
- 43:01head that it has to be one of those must be real because they feel
- 43:06so linked to me. Okay, so those are our leads, Raptor Racers
- 43:14or one of those two. Do you want to take a swing? Yeah,
- 43:19Stu, Pink Castle, Diamond Castle castle. We've got pink Dress or
- 43:24Diamond Castle. I will have to ask you to pick between the two.
- 43:30Diamond Castle, Diamond Castle. You're taken a swing on Diamond Castle. It's
- 43:34real, Bobbie and the Diamond Castle is real good stuff. Yeah, there
- 43:37you go. It happened in like two thousand nine. You've taken the punt.
- 43:43Now you've got you've got a point. Whatever happens now just happens.
- 43:46So you've got Barbbie in the pink dress, Bobbie video game Hero, Bobbie
- 43:52in Rock and Royals or Bobbie Raptor Racers d Game Hero also sounds real.
- 44:00Yeah, those modern ones where they're like, actually, she is good at
- 44:02computers. Ce do we want to go for a video game? Yeah,
- 44:08let's try it going with Video Game Hero. That's real. Yeah, probably
- 44:14for the exact same reasons. They were like, we need to make her
- 44:16motto. Yeah. The plot of Video Game Hero is just Audra sitting behind
- 44:21a computer crying about how she can't save a dog. That it's not the
- 44:27motto whow. She tries to make a video game and then can't do it
- 44:29and goes then as londs of men. Yeah, that will be not the
- 44:34one that I'm referencing, where she's like, I can't work computers. Yes,
- 44:37she has an idea for a video game for Skipper. She's like,
- 44:40you're making a video game. She's like, oh no, I couldn't do
- 44:44that. I'm going to go talk to the boys, Bill and John because
- 44:49they can work computers. And then they have to meet in the coffee shop
- 44:52because she's like, I keep trying to send the file but it keeps crashing
- 44:55my computer. Can you show me how to send a file? And so
- 45:00that's not video game here. Yeah, that was some some that they did
- 45:08at some point in time, I think, but it was it was rough
- 45:12and so I guess they went with video game Hero to salvage Barbie's technological reputation.
- 45:19Yeah, and they did. So you only have one real one left
- 45:23to find. We have Bobby and the pink dress, Bobby in Rock and
- 45:29Royals, or Bobby Raptor Races, Raptor Racers, Raptor ignoring the chanting going
- 45:37on in the room, It was your initial instinct. We've got to right,
- 45:42I'm willing to take a like, just go for it. I wanted
- 45:45to be real m, You're just gonna like will it into existence? That
- 45:50was like, yeah, yeah's already tried to do that earlier in the episode.
- 45:53She's she's imagining a commercial right now, Barbie's on a Raptors on a
- 45:59blue Raptor is happening. Yeah, all right, so rapt Races, Let
- 46:04go for it. Yeah, rap to Racers, it's real. It's not
- 46:08real. I'm really and it's I mean, I tried to think of something
- 46:16that was like really ridiculous and out there for the Barbie brand, But that
- 46:20still sounds plausible because it's got alliteration. What about that? I just I
- 46:24was like, also very briefly, I used they them pronouns. Yeah,
- 46:30Okay, yeah, my bad, it's okay. I just wanted to really
- 46:32quickly. Yeah yeah, yeah, okay, my bad. I'm sorry,
- 46:37No, it's okay. I just wanted to say thank you. The final
- 46:40pass on this round is for Barbie's supporting characters. So these are people from
- 46:46the official Barbie Universe according to the Barbie Wicki combination of both toys and media.
- 46:53Okay, so here is your list. Barbie's Nuts, Margaret Roberts,
- 47:00Anne, Marie, Lacy, Milania Carefree, what the and trichell. Okay,
- 47:08Lacy feels real to me. Lacy is one real. I don't know
- 47:13if she's in the I recently made everyone watch a couple of the Bobby DVDs
- 47:20on my birthday before we went to see the New Bobby movie, and one
- 47:22of them was Bobby and the Twelve Dancing Princesses and one of her little sisters.
- 47:27In that one of the twelve Dancing Princesses is called Lacy, So I
- 47:30know for a fact that she is real. Lacy is real. It's going
- 47:34to be a point the Lacy I have here, even though absolutely I'm sure
- 47:37there's more than one. Lacy is Bobby's. Bobby's Chihuahua is called Lacy.
- 47:43That's so interesting that we reuse the name, Yeah, because I'm pretty sure
- 47:49that like Lacy is used a couple of times as like Bobby character's little sister,
- 47:52like a couple. It's like the same animation and it's like the same
- 47:57you know, it's meant to be like the same child actress the universe that
- 48:00like please her sister Bobbies, like, you're gonna be named after my dog?
- 48:06Yeah, good stuff. You've got Margaret Roberts and Marie Milannia Carefree and
- 48:13Trichelle. It can't be Milannia Carefree. There's no, it just can't.
- 48:20It would really hurt my feelings if that was If that was true, maybe
- 48:24Margaret Margaret's no input here or maybe like Trichelle sounds like like some kind of
- 48:35villain in one of the more like modern ones where it would be like,
- 48:37you know, like the meme girl kind of vibe. Yeah, by the
- 48:40whole movie is just tell you're such a bitch, But I'm Bobby. I
- 48:46believe you. Basically, I believe you're gonna go with You're gonna go with
- 48:51Trachelle Yeah, sure, okay, why not? Yeah, Lydia Lydia created
- 48:58a whole narrative, so I'm Trachelle is real, but it only reveals more
- 49:02about Lydia's personal views. Trachelle was introduced as Bobby's first African American friend.
- 49:07If you if you, if you see her as a villain, that's a
- 49:14that's your own personal point, that's okay. The villains always just have like
- 49:19contrasting names. Yeah, yeah, like a tin offer, you know,
- 49:22yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah like that, yeah, exactly, yeah,
- 49:27And I haven't seen any of it. Was she in the like one
- 49:29of the newer is she like she's a dollar a doll introduce in the nineties?
- 49:35Oh okay, you mentioned Margaret might be a name. Yeah, I
- 49:38kind of like the vibe of Margaret. I feel like she would be.
- 49:43I don't know, that sounds like something that would be in one of the
- 49:45all the ones, but she does also isn't isn't Bobby's last name Robert?
- 49:53Is that? I can't say anything that thing I think it is? I
- 49:57think, I think I think her name is like Barbara Robert. I think
- 50:04that's her official actual name. Yeah, I think, so you're going with
- 50:08Margaret Roberts. I have no context. But then but then, but then
- 50:14I don't know because they only have a really introduced her little sister, so
- 50:17I don't know if she has other family members in the in the law,
- 50:20you know, like an aunt Margaret. You know, we all have an
- 50:22aunt Margaret. We all do. Yeah, we all listen. Yeah,
- 50:29if we're going off the basis of everyone has an aunt Margaret, it's almost
- 50:31Bobby. Then I'm fine with that. Sure, Margaret Roberts is real.
- 50:40Bobby's mom O her mom. Okay, I was close. He has a
- 50:45mom. So that's three. Yeah, that's all three, correct, Ann,
- 50:50Marie and Melianna carefree than thank god? Alright, three for three?
- 50:57Good stuff. Yeah, first, see if it can be repeated with Sugar's
- 51:01daddy's and the final list the secondary characters from the Barbie universe whatever that means.
- 51:07And here are your names. You have Ryan Sherwood, Quti, Lady
- 51:15Bird, Pepperton, s Quinn, and Destiny. I think Destiny is real
- 51:22and also Tutti also real. Yeah, do you want to go for Tutti
- 51:28first? Then yeah, let's go for that since we both have a memory
- 51:30of Tuti. Okay, yeah, yeah, Tutti is real. Tutti is
- 51:36Bobbie's discontinued younger sister discontinue dead younger sisters? Does Bobby have Margaret was busy
- 51:47good stuff with Tuti. I mean we can go for destiny since that's another
- 51:51one. Yeah, a memory of another sister. Yeah, it's a memory,
- 51:57but it feels like it should be destiny. The energies and it is
- 52:06drawing you towards destiny, and so go with destiny. Destiny is not real,
- 52:12so sorry, yeah, destiny. The made up Lady Peppercorn. Lady
- 52:20Pepperton is the FAKECRN as well. Ryan Sherwood is real. It just says
- 52:25in brackets on the Wikipedia page unknown boy child, that's me. That's relatable.
- 52:35And then Sequin was another one of Bobby's dogs. This time Bobby's French
- 52:39poodle was called Sequin. I did. I didn't know that. I was
- 52:43thinking in my mind. I was like, I know the answers to this,
- 52:45and I'm really mad, but this wasn't. I mean, I don't
- 52:47know why I'm mad. I got all the answers right in the gate leapers.
- 52:53That's the end of round one. Let's ask math Barbie to calculate the
- 52:58latest scores. She do anything so why is she doing this? The scores
- 53:04are Barbie's Nuts are on six points, but Sugar's Daddies are just behind with
- 53:07five points. Up Next is round two, but first we've got to play
- 53:13some smart ads, and if they're working, as Mattel intends, you're about
- 53:16to be sold a lot of plastic, beautiful, planet destroying plastic. Round
- 53:29two is called pitch battle. Don't worry, I'm not going to make anyone
- 53:32sing on a podcast, although that that would be very me, wouldn't it
- 53:37That one day, one day, Brand Barbie has been revitalized and Mattel owes
- 53:44Greta go wig big time, big time. So I'd like our players to
- 53:47think like hyper capitalist media executives and rapidly pitch ideas about the future of the
- 53:53brand. I'll then hand out points for clever or funny or weird answers based
- 53:59on I don't know when, I'll just throw them out randomly throughout. So
- 54:05your first question is this gret Us out? But the studio system marches on
- 54:09Bobby too? What's it all about? Who's it about? Any who?
- 54:14Would you like to be the main character? Alan? Oh? Yeah?
- 54:17Alan? Nice? You want to see more? Michael Sarah always yea.
- 54:22I think it's a body horror along the vibe of teeth that came out about
- 54:30Bobby's nip out and vagina. Yes, yes, yes, the seed yea.
- 54:38From the final scene. There the number of pickup in the guyancolgist office,
- 54:44you just pick up right there. The number of gynecological appointments it is.
- 54:46I looked it up. It is harder to get an appointment because so
- 54:50many women are actually doing it and taking their health seriously. That's a really
- 54:54good so it is very relevant. Should I see my guy in ecologist?
- 55:04You're guys guy Kenlenges, all right. I don't think we're going to top
- 55:14answers about that. I think that the teeth thread is it is a good
- 55:16one to go down with Bobby too. Here's another here's another pitch for you.
- 55:21Plastic is back and it's fantastic. So what's the must have Bobby Christmas
- 55:25gift this year? What's what's a Barbie doll for twenty twenty three? Work
- 55:29from home Barbie? Yeah, that's that's the that's the works. Maybe get
- 55:34the fuck back to the office, Barby. Oh yeah yeah yeah. Girls
- 55:37in a Bobby, Girls in Bobby really good. Yeah, that is really
- 55:45good. I like, like microplastics Barbie, like she's got like a fishing
- 55:49net. Yeah, you just you just it's a pool and so we're bringing
- 55:52back the water features into toys. Yeah, and it's meta while still destroying
- 55:57the earth. You can sist the microplastics out of the washing machine yourself.
- 56:01Here's a there's a sea turtle and its name is Gemini and it's kind of
- 56:10plastic bag stuck over his head that people will buy that. Yeah, you
- 56:15can save him. Yep. I think that one's won that one, unless
- 56:21anyone's got any more topical ideas for for twenty twenty three, Barbie turtle hyperinflation
- 56:27Barby heras to a Bobbie. I would buy that, for sure. I
- 56:32would buy You can play with it for over three hours and it won't break
- 56:38like four hundred dollars. Yeah, yeah, okay, your next prompt.
- 56:44Barbie can no longer be pink due to a lawsuit from the Susan G.
- 56:47Coleman Foundation. What color is Barbie now? Blue? Next question? I
- 56:55joke. I just wanted to do that. I mean my argument would be,
- 57:00I think when she has her existential crisis where she's like it's like sitting
- 57:05flat on the ground and then just like falls over. I think she isn't
- 57:07like a light teal blue and then the yeah a Barbie of that outfit.
- 57:14Okay, yeah, depression Bobby, Yeah, yes, yeah, the purple
- 57:20because of the Pegasus. Yeah, you would go with the peg chariot.
- 57:23It was purple too. Yeah. I think that whole film was just they
- 57:27had like a purple tip. I think it was like, it wasn't a
- 57:30good purple. It was like this horrible, sickly purple, thickly we just
- 57:38ate that ship up though it violet. Yeah, Honestly, every talking about
- 57:47Bobby does give me this weird taste in my mouth. And I don't know
- 57:50whether it's because of the amount of Bobbies I chewed on as a child,
- 57:53it's because of its and it's actually it's not a sicky color. It's just
- 57:58that I ate part. Yeah, he ate too much good stuff. Okay,
- 58:06here's another one which celebrity could have played a Ken but didn't play a
- 58:09Ken, And for a bonus point, which ken would that can be?
- 58:13Which were the hymnbos that were left out? I don't know any man,
- 58:19I feel the one man I know and we'll throw him in the Barbie universe.
- 58:25I feel like we could have a Rob Mcklehenny as a Ken and his
- 58:30job is just pub that's his jobs. Job is just pubb both because he's
- 58:36getting really into the UK since he is acquired a a football team, and
- 58:40also it's always Donny Sunny in Philadelphia they run a pub, So I think
- 58:45he would just be His job would be pub yeah, good, good popular
- 58:50contemporary hymbo good contemporary hymbo knowledge. Yeah. I think I would have liked
- 58:54some like Scottish Ken representation. Yeah. You said earlier that that Ellen and
- 59:01I were both in England. I am in fact of Scotland, is true
- 59:06the clarification I do live here now, So I would have like, maybe
- 59:13like David Tennant as a Ken like that would be I would like Kennon David
- 59:17Tennant, Yeah exactly. That's how we would be credited. He would be
- 59:23David Kennon time traveling Barby maybe oh yeah, yeah, yeah, he's an
- 59:30exactly, that's the premise of the question. Anything he would live in like
- 59:34a tardest dream house, that would be yeah, yeah, which is a
- 59:37bit bigger on the inside than it is looks like, yeah, exactly,
- 59:46do a pink Tardest right? That was like a they did like a no,
- 59:52like it was like a marketing barby. That's a little I refuse.
- 59:58I know there's like some guffar coming out of my voice, but I'm not
- 1:00:00laughing at that. I broke immediately. That was an episode where they landed
- 1:00:09somewhere where everybody had to be pretty or something, and they did paint the
- 1:00:14Tardest pink in that episode. It was like yeah, from Classic Who.
- 1:00:17And then they like, wasn't in the companion stays the doctor like aren't you
- 1:00:22bothered by this? And he was like, no, it's fine. Obviously,
- 1:00:24I love it when the Tardest plays, so it's absolutely fine. That's
- 1:00:29what I seem to remember. Yeah, I'd like to see nineteen seventies.
- 1:00:34I love it when the Tardest. Yes, Yeah, I'd love to see
- 1:00:39like Terry Crews, not as like the main Ken, but a Ken,
- 1:00:43Yeah, because I just love his explosive power and like Terry, Who's is
- 1:00:46very much about like get in touch with your feminine side, like yes,
- 1:00:50let's show you. I think him as a Ken would be pretty good.
- 1:00:52He'd be he'd be a good, good they wasted John Cena as like a
- 1:00:57two second cameo, oh, I'm not human that he Ken that John Cena
- 1:01:00should have been somebody else. But no, you you're saying that his role
- 1:01:05should have been expanded within the Barbie Cinematic University. How you would have scored
- 1:01:09ten points for that first question if you'd have said, it's all about Mermaid
- 1:01:12Barbie Bobby two is all about John Cena. Okay, here's another one.
- 1:01:17In Barbie twenty twenty three. Does Michael Sarah's Alan represent male ally ship,
- 1:01:22asexuality or both or neither? Is Alan like an extra terrestrial being? Like
- 1:01:28is the outside? Feels like an entity in that movie? Okay, so
- 1:01:31Nia feels like he's Yeah, I do feel ladies father. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:01:38I always see so he's done it. Yeah, I always see that's
- 1:01:45what we've gone from this movie. He's the only one with a penis have
- 1:01:50the detachable plastic bellies to prove it. Yeah, since Ken and Barbie are
- 1:01:54like, we should go back to your house, but they have no idea
- 1:01:57why. I always see Alan as someone who's seen the matrix, like he
- 1:02:01knows he's the only person here who knows what sex is and so he's just
- 1:02:06like everything is just like lines of green code when everybody else is living in
- 1:02:12pink code. Yes, pink code over everybody else's job as beach. Yeah
- 1:02:20nice, all right, so neither but points for both teams that name one
- 1:02:24item in your life that has to be Bobby Pink forever. There are very
- 1:02:29few things in my life that I wouldn't allow to be Barbie Pink. You
- 1:02:34know, I'm gonna be honest. Okay, I like my little I smoked
- 1:02:38weed from do that? Do that be Bobby? Yeah? Yeah, you
- 1:02:44know, so every time I smoke it do the drugs, I get transported
- 1:02:46to Barbie Land and I think about that. Yeah. You know, Barbie
- 1:02:50can be anything, including just a stoner, just a lazy person, yeah
- 1:02:55Barbie. Yeah yeah. My hair, honestly, would be great if my
- 1:03:00hair could just if you could achieve that color on your hair, it would
- 1:03:02be impressed. It would be wild Bobby pink calf for about a day,
- 1:03:08okay, yeah, and then then then it start a face yeah exactly.
- 1:03:13Yeah, it's pretty good. Yeah. Yeah, if you could maintain that
- 1:03:17pink, that would be impressive. Yeah, if I was allowed to,
- 1:03:21if it wasn't anti the professional world to have pink Yeah, you know,
- 1:03:27he needs to come and defend my right to have pink. Caroline show up
- 1:03:31in her cowboy outfit like it is and be like, do you think I'm
- 1:03:37not a professional because I'm just like a cowboy. Yeah, that's what I'm
- 1:03:40going to say to my workplace when I bring my weed pen into work.
- 1:03:45I can't do this. You're not a professional. You're jobnistic. Yeah,
- 1:03:52and then there's so many things to impact that as you and say that.
- 1:03:58Okay. And finally, as someone who largely presents as ken, am I
- 1:04:00doing okay? Yeah? Yeah, okay, yeah, yeah, You're so
- 1:04:06brave. You're so braved, you're doing grave. Thank you said that.
- 1:04:13Okay, that's the end of the round. Let's distract ourselves from thinking about
- 1:04:16dying by looking at the latest scores. And Sugar's Daddies have done a little
- 1:04:20bit of a leap frog as they're on thirteen points with Barbie's Nuts on twelve
- 1:04:26points. Still close, still very close, still very very close. Anyone
- 1:04:30could win. Round three is next, But first, some commercials. You
- 1:04:35sat through a two hour commercial for Gretta, so I sit through two minutes
- 1:04:39for us. Sounds like a Threat. Round three is called Wicky What It's
- 1:04:48the game where we deep dive into the specific knowledge of the highly policed Barbie
- 1:04:54fandom. Wicky. It's it's a very conservative space. I'll tell you that
- 1:04:57right now. That really. Yeah, they on the Barbie movie thing.
- 1:05:01There's lots of things about how it's a missandrist movie produced by Yeah, it's
- 1:05:08people who hate men. Yeah. To be honest, I don't think there
- 1:05:12was enough messandry in that film. I was expecting a lot more. And
- 1:05:15there was very very nice to the cans nice. Yeah, it's a lot
- 1:05:20of really awful stuff. And in the end it was like, oh,
- 1:05:23yeah, you just kind of like brainwash and overthrow the government, force everybody
- 1:05:30to be you're weird sexually charged maids. Yeah, and she felt she felt
- 1:05:36so bad about breaking up with him. Yeah, he did. I think
- 1:05:42that was the most realistic party where you're like trying not to like hut a
- 1:05:45men's feelings for fear of them murdering you. Yeah, he overthrew the government.
- 1:05:53I think you're allowed to dump him. Yeah, but I can change
- 1:05:58him. I can sit. She shouldn't have to. That's why it was
- 1:06:03such a good movie. So in turn, I'll read our teams an extract
- 1:06:10from the Barbie Wickie or the Barbickie, but there'll be a missing word or
- 1:06:15phrase. I'll then give our teams three options for the missing text, choose
- 1:06:17the right answer, and score a point. We will start with Barbie's Nuts.
- 1:06:23The original Barbie doll was revealed at the New York Toy Fair on March
- 1:06:27ninth, nineteen fifty nine, and it was sold for three dollars. Barbie's
- 1:06:30hair was in a signature ponytail, and she wore a black and white swimsuit.
- 1:06:34The first commercial ed during an episode of Blank, a Woody Woodpecker and
- 1:06:41Friends, be the Mickey Mouse Club or see Leave It to Beaver? I
- 1:06:47Don't Thank You? Was Mickey Mouse Club Lydia. Yeah, I would be
- 1:06:51inclined to It's either the Woody Woodpecker one or what Leave It to Beaver?
- 1:07:01Leave It to Beaver an American show I've been wanting to bring up for so
- 1:07:04long on this podcast, and I finally saw an opportunity to why you had
- 1:07:10a show in the nightteen fifties called Leave It to Beaver. It's tough.
- 1:07:14It's tough because I don't know anything about either of those shows. So I
- 1:07:17don't know what would be you know, appropriate to be shown. What were
- 1:07:24you what were you initially leaning towards? And we'll we'll just go with them.
- 1:07:29Okay, Okay, I think I was leaning towards I'm gonna say leave
- 1:07:32it to Beaver. Okay, Yeah, I think leave it to Beaver because
- 1:07:36again, like the origin of Barbie was that she was based off of a
- 1:07:41more adult icon. It wasn't even a toy yet, so I think,
- 1:07:45yeah, that they were trying to market to kids for sure, but just
- 1:07:48still not towards infants, if that makes any sense, like not young children.
- 1:07:54So I think leave it to Beaver might got better than the woody Woodpecker.
- 1:07:57Yeah, I'm happy with that logic. It's good logic, but it's
- 1:08:01not right. Damn it. It's actually the Mickey mouse Club. It is
- 1:08:06during the Mickey mouse Club. Damn it target the kids. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:08:14sorry, Lydia and then Ryan Gosling was one of the Mickey mouse Club
- 1:08:19at one point. Full the conspirall theories begin, the conspiracy theory. Oh
- 1:08:30there we go, endless well of pun based humor. Yea, this is
- 1:08:34my contribution. Actually, it's a fine contribution. Okay, we will move
- 1:08:42over. So Sugar's daddies, here is your here's your extract extract, like
- 1:08:45it's an encyclopedia. Here's your extract, and the here is and your three
- 1:08:49options. In nineteen sixty one, Ken was introduced as Barbie's boyfriend and was
- 1:08:55the first male character. Ken was named after Ruth Handler's Was it her husband,
- 1:09:01her son, or her miniature schnauzer. I think it's some That's what
- 1:09:06my instinct says. I should have read this while I was looking at all
- 1:09:11the Barbie stuff, but I do not remember. I do think it would
- 1:09:13be one of those weird things of like I named these two dolls after my
- 1:09:16kids and then they date. I think son is less weird than husband.
- 1:09:25Yeah, because then it's husband, and yeah that's the most weird. Yeah,
- 1:09:35so they're all weird, but we both have this weird thing of maybe
- 1:09:39it being the sun. Okay, yeah, going for her son, Well
- 1:09:44it's weird either way, but yes it is her son. Yeah, Ken
- 1:09:46named after her son. I'm usually at a pub quiz right now in my
- 1:09:51wife and last week there was that exact question where it was like, what
- 1:09:56there's like the children's names where it was like that they like Barbara and then
- 1:10:00obviously like Kennel. Kenneth was his name. I guess still is. I
- 1:10:04don't know if you saw, but we we were like there was no like
- 1:10:10multiple choice, and we were like, oh no, it'd be way too
- 1:10:13creepy if it was if it was a son, and so we did not
- 1:10:15we didn't say that. Yeah, yeah, damn, but I didn't know
- 1:10:20that ample. So I would be hurt if my parents made like a hit
- 1:10:27doll and named it after my sibling and didn't give me anything. I would
- 1:10:30be like, excuse me, it is my name, nothing to you,
- 1:10:32yeah, image, yeah, yeah. I feel like their life for siblings
- 1:10:40must be so weird, like because their names are just always together as like
- 1:10:45people who are fucking like phonomically, so like they must. I feel like
- 1:10:49he must go by his middle name like I personally would be Midge, and
- 1:10:58yeah, yeah, don't make it weird. Siblings are just grinding their flat
- 1:11:01crops. Yeah, that's true, that is totally fine. That's yeah.
- 1:11:05Yeah. And also, has any child ever actually made kenn Barbie date?
- 1:11:12It was always Bobby Bobby, right, Bobby Bobby? Yeah? That would
- 1:11:16I don't know what, yeah, yeah, I think occasionally my Bobby's would
- 1:11:24date him so that they can have an affair with a Bobbie. Oh my
- 1:11:27god, I love that. I love this trend since Barbie of seeing online
- 1:11:35that like everyone's like, oh yeah, Barbe, Like girls play with Barbies,
- 1:11:39Like, oh yeah, I'm dating Ken, but girls really play.
- 1:11:44Oh my god, you cheated on me. I cannot believe that. I'm
- 1:11:46taking the house. That's how this actually went fantastic. My mouth, my
- 1:11:56jaw has been dropped for like five minutes. I'm not familiar with at all
- 1:12:01anyone who played with Barbies. It was a soap opera. I can tell
- 1:12:06you. Guys are all in like, yeah, the dog. Okay,
- 1:12:12here's here's another question, another extract for Barby's nuts. Here it is.
- 1:12:15During the holiday season two thousand and two, the Barbie Happy Family set was
- 1:12:20removed from Walmart's two weeks before Christmas under intense scrutiny and accusations of promoting what
- 1:12:28is it a body positivity, b interracial marriage or ce teen pregnancy? Oh?
- 1:12:38What was the sorry? What was the set again? So it was
- 1:12:40it was the Barby Happy Family Set. What would a Barbie teenager look compared
- 1:12:44to Barbie. I guess. I don't know. I don't don't know that.
- 1:12:46I do question they do make them look younger in the media. I
- 1:12:51don't know how. I don't know if they would have like a teenage like
- 1:12:55Bobby in the you know. And I don't think they would make up be
- 1:12:59pregnant either, because the only pregnant one is Yeah, I could be America
- 1:13:03being what it is, especially in two thousand and two, I could definitely
- 1:13:05see the interracial thing being real. That was Yeah, that was my initial
- 1:13:13initial thought. Brutal. Yeah, I mean we're both very towards that.
- 1:13:16Do you want to do you want to go? Yeah, okay, yeah,
- 1:13:18I'm happy to So you're going with b interracial marriage. Yeah, this
- 1:13:24was a gately pass first. It's actually a trick question in that it's all
- 1:13:27of the above reasons that people complained from different sectors of society. In two
- 1:13:31thousand and two, it was the first set that so it was the it
- 1:13:35was the set that came with the plastic pregnancy belly and contained like lots of
- 1:13:40people people thought, oh yeah, teen pregnancy, So that was like the
- 1:13:43main upright, But you could get sets where it was sometimes white Barbie,
- 1:13:46sometimes black Barbie and people took issue with that and what that was apparently promoting.
- 1:13:51And then the body positivity thing is that a lot of people referred to
- 1:13:57the pregnant Barbie as fat Barbie. She's and we're like, oh, Bobby
- 1:14:00shouldn't be fat so and yeah, exactly, not even when she's pregnant.
- 1:14:04Yeah, when you're pregnant exactly. These were the complaints from Middle America in
- 1:14:11two thousand and two. And yeah, so definitely a point there. I
- 1:14:15gave you a really tough first question to kind of balance out that you would
- 1:14:17have got to point there regardless. Okay, that doesn't feel like a complete
- 1:14:21give me so ye okay, next question for Sugar's daddies here it is Skipper
- 1:14:29Roberts is Barbie's younger sister. She usually has brown hair with colorful highlights.
- 1:14:33She is a teenage who loves technology, gadgets, caring for children and animals,
- 1:14:40and babysitting. And what is it a crumping be online blogging or c
- 1:14:47scratch DJing? What's what's crumping? Crumping is a dance that will have been
- 1:15:00popular around about the same time as online blogging and scratch dj Yeah, it's
- 1:15:03really hard and not very interesting in podcast form at all. Yeah, but
- 1:15:10for our ten patrons, I hope you enjoyed quick attempt at a crump Yeah,
- 1:15:15is like crumping is also like your entire body. Yes, yea yeah,
- 1:15:19quick isolated movements. I have no idea. I feel like online blogging
- 1:15:28is the safe answer. Yeah, but also is that because because if she's
- 1:15:34a child, should she be only encouraging children to be blogging online? That's
- 1:15:40the sort of thing that like would I can imagine it being complained about and
- 1:15:45it being like somewhat reasonable, like, yeah, you shouldn't. A child
- 1:15:48should not just be sharing all of that life online. That's yeah, Hell
- 1:15:54has a point. The youths should be crumping. Let them crumpings. I
- 1:16:09know the Bobby just blog so it would make sense. Oh yeah, this
- 1:16:13is this is Skipper Roberts, Bobbie's younger sister. It is a teenage.
- 1:16:19Is a teenage? Teenagers do blog? They do? Yeah? Notoriously?
- 1:16:27Yeah. Yeah. Tied for me is scratch DJ and online blogging. I
- 1:16:34don't feel as much attachment to crumping. So that's my two. Yeah,
- 1:16:39I'm going to go online blogger. Okay, online blogging, it's not online
- 1:16:44blogging. It's scratch dj j oh Well, it's good for that teenage.
- 1:16:53I thought it was a concern. I'm gonna let in a second, they
- 1:17:00can't be blogging or Internet safety or given the complaints that America had in two
- 1:17:08thousand and two, you can see why they'd be okay with blogging. Yeah,
- 1:17:12it's very bottomouth the ice plug again. Yeah, the complexities of American
- 1:17:16social politics. It's two British people. I can say things like that we
- 1:17:21outnumber you. Okay, one final question, one final extract for each team.
- 1:17:31Back over to Barbie's Nuts. Here it is, and this time we're
- 1:17:34talking about the Barbie movie. So the trailer shot of Barbie taking off her
- 1:17:40high heel inspired a Barbie foot challenge that podiatrists warned against. Another TikTok trend
- 1:17:46had men changing their outfits after blank. Was it A riding a stick horse,
- 1:17:53B stepping out of a corvette or C drinking a milkshake. I'm not
- 1:17:59I'm not a youth. I don't I am and I think I authority.
- 1:18:06I didn't. Yeah, I am not on the side of techtok. TikTok
- 1:18:13knows that I don't want to see men It doesn't show them to me.
- 1:18:16But I feel like I may have seen a single video where there was a
- 1:18:21man riding a thick course and I don't know if you changed his course l
- 1:18:25after, but I feel like I have seen evidence that men on technok are
- 1:18:30writing stick colses because of it's good, it's a great sentences, a sense
- 1:18:35that twenty twenty three are you? Are you happy to go with that,
- 1:18:41Jason? Yeah, I think I've seen a similar video, not on TikTok,
- 1:18:44on an Orange site, but that's unrelated, okay, and will remain
- 1:18:49private. Yeah, watching men ride on stick horses, yeah, and then
- 1:18:55changing And I think I'm okay with that because again I'm not a youth.
- 1:19:00I don't. Yeah, the TikTok's and the sounds and the trends. Yeah,
- 1:19:03definitely still within the age demographic that they marketed TikTok app. But yeah,
- 1:19:09I definitely am. I just I don't I don't get it. I
- 1:19:13don't get it. It's it's what is what is cap? What is not
- 1:19:16cap anymore? I don't know anymore? Yeah, yeah, yeah, using
- 1:19:19words from twenty nineteen, So you're going with riding a stick horse as the
- 1:19:26TikTok trend that men did. It's not It's not this. It might have
- 1:19:30just been really the one guy, yeah, the the big one. Like
- 1:19:36everything on TikTok was started by a brand. It was a big thing for
- 1:19:41cold Stone Creamery where there was a Barbie milkshake that men would drink and then
- 1:19:47change their clothes really fast to be pink, as though the Barbie milkshake was
- 1:19:51making them pink, made them pink. I see the yassification of men on
- 1:19:58TikTok byer yes, by Barbie. Yeah, we go see the vision opposite
- 1:20:02side of the Grimace shake. Yes, equal an opposite to Grimace. Okay,
- 1:20:11One final question for Sugar's daddies. Here it is in the UK View
- 1:20:16Cinemas announced a limited addition tango ice blast flavor inspired by Barbie called Barbie tang
- 1:20:24Ice Blast. As well as this, they said they would give a free
- 1:20:28regular popcorn to anyone who blank is it A brings a companion named Ken verified
- 1:20:34by an official government I d B. Performs the dua Leaper Barbie TikTok dance
- 1:20:41while holding the Barbie tang Ice Blast or c comes dressed as popcorn vendor Barbie.
- 1:20:46That's a lot. I think it's got to be the can one.
- 1:20:48I agree on the I do think it might be the Ken thing because they're
- 1:20:54encouraging you to bring someone else like instead of buying one to the ugly thing.
- 1:21:00Yeah, and also the other two are so annoying for everybody that works
- 1:21:06there, and like somewhat easier, Like isn't it just a stripey shirt to
- 1:21:13be popcorn vendor? Bobby you can find maybe maybe, but bring some empty
- 1:21:18buckets and some fake popcorn. I don't know, you can Barbie dound really
- 1:21:23easily. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's just it's just regular clothes and
- 1:21:28a Barby vibe. Yeah yeah, yeah, yep, I do. I
- 1:21:31do think it would be the Ken one. If I were in a boardroom,
- 1:21:34that's the one that I would pitch, or that's the one in a
- 1:21:38low risk because ver Easy people are actually going to be able to take your
- 1:21:41popcorn. M So you're going with a belief brings a companion named Ken Verify,
- 1:21:46but an official government. I d yes, that is correct. Yeah.
- 1:21:49I like how you mentioned about Oh yeah, that would be really annoying
- 1:21:53for the employees, Whereas in America the cold Stole creamery people have to stand
- 1:21:58there and watch a dupe change. You're like, fuck the employees. Yeah,
- 1:22:05I say, do you remember working at Starbucks sad We'd have to pokemon
- 1:22:10go bullshit and all this other weird ass drinks. Yeah, we got to
- 1:22:14bullshit all the time. Oh yeah, yeah, do you have this drink?
- 1:22:16No? Yeah? Probably people wrapping and singing and doing whatever the fuck
- 1:22:21in the window. I don't microphone. I don't want you to sing your
- 1:22:26order to me. America's fuck dude, like it. Do you do that
- 1:22:31in the UK? But I just don't. I just cannot imagine anybody actually
- 1:22:35given at the time of day. Yeah. But it's the thing where like
- 1:22:42I just didn't think I did have to wear attacker bell hat once. Oh
- 1:22:45yeah, that was You didn't even work at top of Bell No, I
- 1:22:48did, and I worked at one of There was like five of them Essex
- 1:22:53represents, Oh my god. Five That all that well, with that enlightening
- 1:23:05new knowledge about brand Taco Bell, that's the end of round three. Let's
- 1:23:10climb the stairs of the Barbie Dreamhouse and then immediately slide down the slide of
- 1:23:15the Barbie Dreamhouse and then climb the stairs of the Barbie Dreamhouse to calculate the
- 1:23:18scores and then go down the slide again because it's so much fun. Yeah,
- 1:23:24okay, we have Barbie's nuts on thirteen points, Sugar's Daddy's extending that
- 1:23:29lead on fifteen points. Yeah, still still anyone's game. The quick fire
- 1:23:33around can change everything. Yeah, so many points up for grabs. But
- 1:23:38before we get to the quick fire around, let's talk prizes. This episode's
- 1:23:42star prize is the concept of beauty. Beauty comes in many, many forms,
- 1:23:45of course, but beauty blossoms when you practice self love. So go
- 1:23:49have a wank. I guess, but our winning team will also receive a
- 1:23:58brand new in the box original nineteen fifty nine swimsuit Barbie and near Mint Collector's
- 1:24:04edition item. Oh but oh look, her hair's a little has a little
- 1:24:10unkempt. I'm just oh my god, Oh my god, oh my god.
- 1:24:18It's a fine. Oh my god. Good is new? That's capes
- 1:24:27come off? Okay, wow, No, can't break this toy. Okay,
- 1:24:34too well made. Wow. Next is our crucial quick fire around,
- 1:24:40But first we must play one final set of ads. Hi, I'm ad
- 1:24:44executive Barbie. Please continue to buy all products, diversify your consumer portfolio buy
- 1:24:49a Honda today. Our final quick fire around test your broader pop culture knowledge,
- 1:25:01and it is called this Barbie. In this game, I will give
- 1:25:04our players clues to fictional characters who, according to the Hollywood Reporter, are
- 1:25:09the best female fictional blonds. So not me, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
- 1:25:15I know Barbie is more than just that now, but she wasn't anything
- 1:25:18other than that until like twenty twenty one. So let's see how well you
- 1:25:21know your fictional white women. And I'm going to give these clues in the
- 1:25:28style of Ken's saying hi as he attempts to pay some compliments to this particular
- 1:25:32Barbie. And there is a classic gate leaper's twist. You need to say
- 1:25:36this Barbie is before you say the name of the person. It's quickfire,
- 1:25:42so buzz in by yelling out your team name these nuts, sugars, daddies
- 1:25:47there. Yeah, that's that's good stuff. I'll do an example. Hi,
- 1:25:50Barbie, you look like you want to burn a city to ashes this
- 1:25:54morning. Hey, can I write on your dragons later? Yes? Jason
- 1:26:00Barbie is Klisi, Yeah yeah, any of those that do any name for
- 1:26:04the person? Yeah? Are we ready? Yeah? Yes, all right,
- 1:26:09I'll stop the timer. Hi Barbie. It was so dope the way
- 1:26:12you killed those vampires earlier, Sugar daddies. Yes, this Bobby, this
- 1:26:16Bobby is Buffy, Yes, Buffy, This Bobby is Buffy. Hi Barbie.
- 1:26:24I love how much you care about our local government. I could watch
- 1:26:28you Lydia. I think that's you. Yeah this Bob, oh yeah,
- 1:26:34you got it, you got it just there. I'll let you have that
- 1:26:36one. This Barbby is indeed Leslie. Nope. Oh yeah, eat waffles
- 1:26:41and pet tiny horses. You didn't need to hear that part. Didn't need
- 1:26:45them. Hi Barbie, how's fashioned merchandising going, Sugar Daddies, I just
- 1:26:57juved out of my fucking skin. This Barbie is l Wood. This Bobby
- 1:27:02is l Woods. Get stuff from legally bond. Okay, that's my answer
- 1:27:06for this. Hi Barbie. Wow, your cats is so smelly. I
- 1:27:13promise that's a clean nuts. Yeah Barbie is Phoebe from Friends. Yeah,
- 1:27:18this Bobby is Phoebe from Friends. Gets I got one. Yes, now
- 1:27:23I'm done, Hi Barbie. The way you use your tech savvyness to support
- 1:27:28a man is so heroic. Although he wears green, aren't you worried you'll
- 1:27:32clash tech savvyiness, green, heroic. These are those are the key words.
- 1:27:39Frent no, no one. I thought this one was a tough one
- 1:27:44as well. But it is apparently the fifth most famous fictional blonde, according
- 1:27:46to the Hollywood Reporter. Sugar's Daddy's yeah, Suldra, this Barbie is Harley
- 1:27:55Quinn A good guess, but it's not Holly Quinn. No. Apparently this
- 1:27:59Bobby is fill City Smoke. Oh yeah, yeah, I don't know.
- 1:28:05I don't Yeah that went on there. Yeah that's what I thought. I
- 1:28:12just went with THEO. Anyway, Hi, Barbie, how is the DC
- 1:28:15lobbying and for profit nonprofit business going? You're smarter than me and definitely smarter
- 1:28:20than your husband, who was fired from your TV series for sexual assault,
- 1:28:25and Netflix made the main character you for this just one final season. Again,
- 1:28:30it was a very specific Barbie. A couple of people in their forties
- 1:28:34just screaming. I think I know I know the show, but I don't.
- 1:28:42I don't know the lady. Sugar's daddy, Yeah, this Barbie is
- 1:28:47that blonde lady from House of Cards when Kevin Spacey got taken. I'm going
- 1:28:51to give you the point because it is House of cards. You can have
- 1:28:54it. That blonde lady. You got that blond lady. We're definitely gonna
- 1:29:00get some who I think a more obvious blonde ladies. But this is not
- 1:29:03what the Hollywood reports said anyway. Hi Barbie God, I love how mean
- 1:29:09you are and you're so crafty. Look how good that design on your pink
- 1:29:13book is? So I agree. I think you're yes Ell, this Bobby
- 1:29:19is? This Bobby is Regina George the mean girl. But wasn't Katie Herron
- 1:29:26a mean girl throughout or like in there too? Yeah, we'll discuss it
- 1:29:30on mean girl's gately positions. They all became at one point mean girls.
- 1:29:38We're all mean girls at heart, and we shouldn't do anything to change that.
- 1:29:43Yep, I won't. Hi Barbie, that's a gorgeous yellow jumpsuit,
- 1:29:48but I have to say I am terrified by your massive sword. These nuts.
- 1:29:54Yes, Jason, I know it's this Barbie's Uma Thurman from Kill Bill.
- 1:29:59I'm gonna have to give you that because I gave the bride it's not
- 1:30:02a ghost. I had to get back the fact that I did know something
- 1:30:10about that for after not getting the clue. Yeah, Hi Barbie, Whoo
- 1:30:15you look strong, Barbie. You look like you're ready to hold more championships.
- 1:30:19Father Sugars Daddy? Is this Barbie is Charlotte Flair. This Bobby is
- 1:30:27Professional Wrestlings. Charlotte flat wasn't the prominent fictional blonde women Chott. She's a
- 1:30:31real person, but her name is Ashley Flear. Okay, yeah, wrestling
- 1:30:39is not real Grayson. Okay, Okay, Hi Barbie, I don't mind
- 1:30:45that you prefer mister big, because I'm mister smooth. Bobby. Yes,
- 1:30:49Lydia, this Bobby is Harry Bradshaw. This Bobby is Carrie Bradshaw Sex and
- 1:30:55say, oh, Hi Barbie. I love your singing voice the way it
- 1:31:00echoes from the mountains. But how do I solve a problem like you?
- 1:31:04Bobby doesn't Shot? I think it is just gonna be Lydia for the completion
- 1:31:11of uh this This Bobby is Maria from the Soob of Music. Yes,
- 1:31:18this Bobby from the Sound of Music, an iconic Bobby and quick before the
- 1:31:25buzzer. Hi Barby, Wow, your muscles are looking so tight to your
- 1:31:30shirt right now, and that's surfboards you're carrying. Oh, my god,
- 1:31:32I'm looking in the mirror. Sugar's daddy. Yes, Ultra, this Barbie
- 1:31:40is Ken, Yes, this Bobby is candle Beach. Nice good stuff.
- 1:31:47Oh my goodness, that was incredibly close. There's one point in it's your
- 1:31:55name for the first like, I don't even know how many episodes up until
- 1:32:00this moment I have buzzed in by saying Ah. Rodgers also used the other
- 1:32:08team's name as well. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah regularly. But before
- 1:32:14we get to those tense final scores, I'd like to thank our players.
- 1:32:17You've all figured out who Barbie is, and now it's time to book an
- 1:32:20appointment with your gynecologist. I think that's what the message of the movie was.
- 1:32:25Yeah, mind scheduled eight months out, so shit's wild calling. Now
- 1:32:34we're not allowed to schedule our own gynecology appointment, so I would have to.
- 1:32:39It would be a whole process of going to the GP, being told
- 1:32:42no, going to the DP six months later, also being told no,
- 1:32:45and then never seeing a guy in ecologist. If you go for a flea
- 1:32:48chaff, they do it fair. And then that's what happened to me,
- 1:32:53and she said, oh you actually are over g first missus and I was
- 1:32:57like, oh, she was like you can do it, and I was
- 1:33:00like, okay, did not expect this great because I went in for my
- 1:33:10ass for appointment and they were like, you need a flu jab and I
- 1:33:13came for that and they were like, an also enjoyed some brain surgery.
- 1:33:15Well you're yeah, I want to see what i'll get next time? Pick
- 1:33:21and mix. Yeah, what's available on that day? Yeah, it's your
- 1:33:28special GP surgery and a nurse will like grab you through the windows some medical
- 1:33:32care. And with that, l you are a wonderful actor, writer and
- 1:33:41performer. Where can our listeners find you online? I know you've also just
- 1:33:44finished a players. They're going to be a way that we could see that
- 1:33:46online. So yeah, you can find us at rickety fidgets on all of
- 1:33:51the usual social media's and none of the unusual not. Yeah, and we
- 1:34:00have just finished a play that will not be available online a little bit because
- 1:34:04you want to take it to the fringe. Oh hell yes, hell yeah.
- 1:34:08So if you're hopefully if we managed to achieve this, hopefully this time
- 1:34:12next year, we'll have just had a sick fringe round where a load of
- 1:34:15people come and see our play about autism and service stations. Oh heck yeah.
- 1:34:19I mean maybe it's the slight autism of me that I was more hooked
- 1:34:23on the service station concept that was like the service stations. Audrey and I
- 1:34:30will be over in the UK next August, so absolutely we'll come see that
- 1:34:33at the fringe. Yeah. Yeah, And I know we're like sixty percent
- 1:34:38USA listeners forty percent the rest of the world. But if you happen to
- 1:34:40be in at the Edinburgh Fringe August twenty twenty four, it's Scotland. A
- 1:34:45lot of Americans. Yeah, there are a lot of Americans with a fringe.
- 1:34:48I think it's okay. Yeah, got the Fringe next year, America.
- 1:34:53Yeah, and just see the Rickety Fidget show. Yes, yes,
- 1:34:57yes, No one else don't believe in collaboration community, that's a lie.
- 1:35:04I very much believe that. You Please still talk to me over links to
- 1:35:15something thinks that everything Ricketty fidgets in the show notes for this very podcast,
- 1:35:21Lydia, do you have anything anything you want to promote? Do you do
- 1:35:25you want to beat people to even find you online? I'd really rather they
- 1:35:30didn't, be honest. I love being not bothered by other people. So
- 1:35:34if people could actively avoid finding me on social media, that would be That
- 1:35:39would be wonderful. Hopefully it find you, block you and then go about
- 1:35:44their lives. That would be perfect, perfect, wonderful, fantastic And any
- 1:35:48you want to share any goodwill towards anything, Nah, I don't have any
- 1:35:55good will left in me. It's a good stuff gets and a huge thank
- 1:36:00you to Ash and Adam Wood and our new executive producer Dodd Berg for their
- 1:36:04continued support at the highest tier over at patreon dot com Forward slash Gatesleapers.
- 1:36:10You are our executive producers. Thank you for not meddling in our vision of
- 1:36:14a modern feminist text. Thank you linked to the Barbie producers not also meddling
- 1:36:18with great goic stuff comment. Let's get to the final scores because despite this
- 1:36:26being an earlier recording, it has still got one hot because I forgot to
- 1:36:29take the jacket off. Why you're an independent woman and I'm not going to
- 1:36:34tell you what the fuck to do? Thank you, thank you. Okay,
- 1:36:39the final scores are so close. That quick fire around incredibly back and
- 1:36:43forth. Each team took the lead. It was wild. Barbie's Nuts finish
- 1:36:47on nineteen points. Very high score. Very high score. Yeah, but
- 1:36:55this week's winners a Sugar's Daddy's with twenty points. Wow, that's so close
- 1:37:00congratulation. Yeah, I can't really get I'll be crowns too. Every charity
- 1:37:08shop is about ten of those incredible work Lydia being the predominant source of knowledge.
- 1:37:16I mean so close, Okay, I'm definitely more than everyone else.
- 1:37:27Oh yeah, I feel like it wouldn't have been fair if I had like
- 1:37:30been on Order's team, because then it would just have been they would really
- 1:37:33we would have would have overtaken. I would have I mean, I feel
- 1:37:39bad, but I would have felt really bad if I was on my l's
- 1:37:42team. Every every commercial they would have been putting out, I would been
- 1:37:48like, yeah, why not sure? Yeah? If you were on me
- 1:37:55or else tea, it would have been a rough top. Yeah, we
- 1:37:59have been gate leapers. Thank you so much for listening. Subscribe to this

- 1:38:32But mother, our table is reserved for six o'clock. So if you could
- 1:38:34catch the fuck up, that would be fans. So there we go.
- 1:38:47That was Barbie gatesleapers a little behind the zeitgeist, a couple of months behind,
- 1:38:53but still so much fun. Barbie's eternal in twenty twenty three, right,
- 1:38:56it's Barbie's year. I'm on my own for this Outra, because I
- 1:39:00keep forgetting that it's a thing that we do until it's time to do the
- 1:39:03edit. So Audra and Jason send their love, or maybe they don't,
- 1:39:09maybe I'm putting those words in their mouths. Of course, this episode wouldn't
- 1:39:13have been possible without our fantastic guests, So one final time, a huge
- 1:39:16thank you to l Atkinson of Ricketty Fidgets, the Queer Accessible and Ricketty Theater

- 1:39:59out with Hi child Brain projects. Thank you, Lydia. Just the Watson
- 1:40:04parents left to go now, I reckon. I don't think they could handle
- 1:40:09it. I have no sense of shame, so I could. While I'm
- 1:40:13here, just a quick update on the casting call that we put out in
- 1:40:15our last Kind Of episode. I've been absolutely flawed and blown away and all
- 1:40:20of those phrases by the response from so many people. Yeah, if you're
- 1:40:27one of those people who reached out and said, oh, I'd love to
- 1:40:30play gate Leapers on a more regular basis. I'd like to be part of
- 1:40:32the cast. Please. You know who you are. You're amazing, You're
- 1:40:35incredible. You have guaranteed that this podcast will continue through twenty twenty four,
- 1:40:41which is Yeah, this is all I want to be doing, and now
- 1:40:44the podcast gets to continue with even more funny, interesting, entertaining people.
- 1:40:49Yeah, it's just basically been a list of my favorite people in podcasting have
- 1:40:55responded and said that they want to be a part of this mad circus.
- 1:40:58So, yeah, you're amazing. The casting call is still open. We're
- 1:41:02going to keep it open for about another month or so, so do send
- 1:41:06me a message online or send an email to Gateleapers at gmail dot com.
- 1:41:12That's Gateleapers at gmail dot com. Another huge thank you to John Williams of
- 1:41:17the Exploration podcast of Space Oddities for pointing out that during the casting call,
- 1:41:23I said Gateleapers pod at gmail dot com. I was thinking about my other
- 1:41:27podcast that needs to have pod on the end, because it was already taken
- 1:41:30as an email. Gateleapers we own outright. Thanks to the generosity of Google,
- 1:41:35so Gatesleapers at gmail dot com if you're interested in joining the Gateleapers cast.
- 1:41:42But all of the information is in our previous episode. I think we
- 1:41:45spoke from the heart pretty pretty well as well as podcasters can. So yeah,
- 1:41:48check that out if you would like more details. I think that's about
- 1:41:53it. Our next episode is our yearly leap into the world of professional wrestling.
