- 0:01Speaker 1: Now, Ron Verb on NewsRadio 570 WKBN.
- 0:06Speaker 2: And from NewsRadio 570 WKBN, well, hello there, boys and girls.
- 0:10Speaker 2: And Ron Verb with you on Wednesday, August 5th. What
- 0:14Speaker 2: are we, at 81 degrees? Nice to be with you here.
- 0:17Speaker 2: I'll be sticking around until I solve the world's problems.
- 0:20Speaker 2: That should happen probably the first half hour. But needless
- 0:24Speaker 2: to say, 330-729-9977, 330-729-9977. 9977 will get you through to us.
- 0:32Speaker 2: My top secret number if you want to conversate here
- 0:34Speaker 2: this afternoon, 330-729-9977 on a Wednesday afternoon. Let me see
- 0:40Speaker 2: what awaits me. You're on the air.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Ron, I don't want to see any more rain or thunderstorms.
- 0:48Speaker 3: It has knocked my phone out for five days, and
- 0:52Speaker 3: I can't even. I had to go up and get one.
- 0:55Speaker 3: My friend got me one, but it's been terrible.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Well, I got news for you. I got news for you.
- 1:02Speaker 2: We had some dark skies and some rain in our area.
- 1:05Speaker 2: So if you don't want to see anymore, they're not
- 1:07Speaker 2: listening to you.
- 1:09Speaker 4: They're not.
- 1:09Speaker 3: But, you know, I need a phone. My friend bought
- 1:13Speaker 3: me a cell phone, but they're going to try to
- 1:14Speaker 3: come tomorrow. There was a lot of power outages down here.
- 1:18Speaker 3: But should we worry about the Guardians?
- 1:22Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:24Speaker 2: You want the short answer?
- 1:26Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:26Speaker 3: You think you've got the bases loaded and you can't
- 1:28Speaker 3: score runs two times?
- 1:30Speaker 2: I mean, well, you're asking me should we worry about them.
- 1:33Speaker 2: What do you think? Absolutely we should worry about them.
- 1:36Speaker 2: It seems to me to be a trend. We see
- 1:38Speaker 2: them doing excellent usually the first half of the season
- 1:41Speaker 2: until the break. And then in the second half of
- 1:43Speaker 2: the season, something just happens where they lose their mojo.
- 1:47Speaker 2: They just lose their mojo. Well, I'll be– There's cause
- 1:52Speaker 2: for concern. Thank you, Dick from Dayton. You're on the air.
- 1:54Speaker 5: Hey, what do you think about the Guardian?
- 1:57Speaker 4: Wait.
- 1:58Speaker 2: That was Dick from Dayton.
- 2:01Speaker 5: I'm sorry. Wrong line. It's the Rockies.
- 2:04Speaker 6: Go ahead.
- 2:06Speaker 5: What do you think about this? I don't know if
- 2:08Speaker 5: he's a BSA member, but he's an Islamist winning the
- 2:13Speaker 5: primary in Michigan. I mean, where did he go? You know,
- 2:18Speaker 5: it was over on Mondami. Where did he go? The
- 2:20Speaker 5: other one.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:22Speaker 5: What do you think?
- 2:25Speaker 2: I think it's insane. I think what's what's happening with
- 2:29Speaker 2: I honestly think what's happening with the Democrat Party and
- 2:35Speaker 2: in this, I don't even want to describe the people
- 2:38Speaker 2: that are winning these primaries other than it's deeply disturbing
- 2:42Speaker 2: to me. I mean, it's deeply disturbing to me the
- 2:46Speaker 2: caliber and quality of the people that you're seeing here.
- 2:50Speaker 2: It's deeply disturbing to me. I think they hate capitalism.
- 2:56Speaker 2: I just, what are your thoughts?
- 3:00Speaker 5: Are your parents Democrats?
- 3:04Speaker 4: Yes.
- 3:05Speaker 2: When my parents were Democrats, when the Democrat Party was
- 3:10Speaker 2: the party of working people and it wasn't the party
- 3:13Speaker 2: it is today. As I say to people, the Democrat
- 3:16Speaker 2: Party has changed tremendously. They wouldn't be. I don't think
- 3:20Speaker 2: they'd be Democrats today. And the Republican Party has changed.
- 3:23Speaker 2: The Republican Party always used to be the party of
- 3:26Speaker 2: the elites and the business people and not so much
- 3:29Speaker 2: the working person. Well, now I think these parties have switched.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Don't you? I think the Republican Party now is viewed
- 3:36Speaker 2: as a party of America first and the productive people
- 3:40Speaker 2: of society. And a Democrat Party is a party of
- 3:43Speaker 2: the oddballs and weirdos and freeloaders.
- 3:49Speaker 5: When I was a little kid, John F. Kennedy, middle school,
- 3:55Speaker 5: my teacher said, social studies... If this Ronald Reagan, who
- 4:02Speaker 5: before was elected, if this Ronald Reagan gets in, we're
- 4:05Speaker 5: going to have World War III, right? And, A, we've
- 4:09Speaker 5: heard that a bunch of times since then, you know,
- 4:13Speaker 5: whether it was Bush, who I don't care for either
- 4:16Speaker 5: of them. But you heard the same thing with Trump.
- 4:19Speaker 5: He's going to start World War III. Okay, well, it
- 4:21Speaker 5: hasn't happened yet. It was, I don't know, 1980 when
- 4:25Speaker 5: the teacher said, you've got to tell your parents.
- 4:28Speaker 7: Okay.
- 4:28Speaker 5: You left the tree from hell. I'm not telling them anything.
- 4:34Speaker 5: You're right, we've changed. And I really... and it was
- 4:39Speaker 5: hoping and now it's more praying that more Democrats see
- 4:45Speaker 5: this isn't what it was. This isn't Daniel Patrick Moynihan.
- 4:49Speaker 5: This isn't all the people that you supported all this
- 4:52Speaker 5: time that supported you. Now, guess what? If you're white,
- 4:56Speaker 5: If you ain't an Islamist, if you ain't an illegal,
- 5:00Speaker 5: they don't like you.
- 5:01Speaker 2: And they'll tell you.
- 5:02Speaker 5: The beauty is, the beauty is, they'll say it all
- 5:06Speaker 5: day long. I want to abolish ICE. I want to
- 5:09Speaker 5: abolish prisons. I want to abolish the Senate. I want
- 5:11Speaker 5: to abolish. And people who they say, no, he's just
- 5:16Speaker 5: a moderate, Josh Shapiro in Pennsylvania. Well, anybody, get your
- 5:21Speaker 5: Google machine out and look up him just saying in
- 5:24Speaker 5: the last two weeks, Yeah, you've got to think about
- 5:27Speaker 5: these things. These things are on the table. Expanding the court,
- 5:30Speaker 5: getting rid of the electoral college. This is your regulation Democrat.
- 5:35Speaker 5: At least that's what they purport to be. But they
- 5:38Speaker 5: have to go, even if they were just a regular guy,
- 5:42Speaker 5: they have to bend over backwards and go with the leftists.
- 5:45Speaker 5: And our country isn't built for that. It's not going
- 5:51Speaker 5: to work.
- 5:53Speaker 4: And... Wow.
- 5:56Speaker 5: I am a little concerned for our country.
- 6:00Speaker 2: I think you should be concerned for your country. I
- 6:02Speaker 2: think there's plenty to be concerned about. But, I mean,
- 6:04Speaker 2: I look at all of these races that are going on,
- 6:08Speaker 2: and I am shocked as an older American. I can't
- 6:11Speaker 2: believe what I'm seeing. I can't believe... What do they
- 6:15Speaker 2: call them, Democrats, socialists? I just can't believe people are
- 6:19Speaker 2: buying into that or electing people that say some of
- 6:24Speaker 2: the things that they say about our holidays. And I
- 6:28Speaker 2: agree with you. It seems like they're just a pack
- 6:34Speaker 2: of damn weirdos.
- 6:37Speaker 5: People openly saying we deserve 9-11. Yeah. It's not going
- 6:44Speaker 5: to work like that. And these little enclaves, and they're
- 6:48Speaker 5: getting bigger and bigger. Look, 40 years ago in Michigan,
- 6:53Speaker 5: would you ever think there'd be a bunch of mosques
- 6:55Speaker 5: that called to prayer at 5 a.m.? No.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Nope.
- 6:59Speaker 5: Now, they're the majority in Pamtramic. They're the majority in Dearborn.
- 7:04Speaker 5: They're telling you.
- 7:05Speaker 4: Get out.
- 7:06Speaker 5: You're not welcome here.
- 7:07Speaker 7: Right.
- 7:08Speaker 5: I can't believe it. This can't go on in our country.
- 7:11Speaker 5: I mean, I love Rand Paul most of the time.
- 7:19Speaker 5: All I'm saying is, guys, can we look at this?
- 7:21Speaker 5: Because we can't let the Constitution let America be over.
- 7:29Speaker 5: Because guess what? If these Islamists get in everywhere, it
- 7:33Speaker 5: will be over. And they're not fighting fair. They're not,
- 7:39Speaker 5: you know, following the rules. Just look at Ilhan Omar
- 7:44Speaker 5: and the other ones. It's a bad time. And, wow,
- 7:49Speaker 5: after waking up this morning and hearing the election results,
- 7:53Speaker 5: and it's not a Congress seat. It's a Senate seat, right?
- 8:00Speaker 5: There's only 100 of them. And if you have one
- 8:02Speaker 5: who's a radical Islamist, That doesn't bode well for the
- 8:07Speaker 5: future of our country.
- 8:09Speaker 2: I just find it very strange. Actually, I'm glad that
- 8:14Speaker 2: you brought it up. I find the comments about September
- 8:17Speaker 2: 11th or the negative comments that they make about this
- 8:20Speaker 2: great country of ours, I mean, is it perfect?
- 8:22Speaker 7: No.
- 8:23Speaker 2: But the things that they're saying and their economic philosophies,
- 8:27Speaker 2: I find deeply disturbing, and yet they win. And I
- 8:32Speaker 2: sit back and say, okay... What's going on here? And
- 8:36Speaker 2: why would you vote for that? Why would you think
- 8:39Speaker 2: that that is the answer? And I'm not into the
- 8:42Speaker 2: Trump name-calling of these people. I'm into saying, why are
- 8:45Speaker 2: people voting for him? We better try to understand what
- 8:48Speaker 2: motivates people to vote for him. And I think part
- 8:51Speaker 2: of that is the economy is leaving a lot of
- 8:54Speaker 2: people behind, whether you're low class or middle class or
- 8:58Speaker 2: wherever you might fall, because of the cost of everything
- 9:01Speaker 2: and inflation. I think we better address those problems, because
- 9:04Speaker 2: I said it before, I'll say it to you again,
- 9:06Speaker 2: hungry bellies are... revolution start on hungry bellies. That's what happens.
- 9:13Speaker 2: There's so many dumb things that we do. I mean,
- 9:16Speaker 2: I'll say it to you, and I know you and
- 9:18Speaker 2: I differ about the situation in Iran, but we sit
- 9:22Speaker 2: here and we think, well, they should think like we do. Well,
- 9:24Speaker 2: they do not. They weren't raised like you. They don't
- 9:27Speaker 2: think like you. They don't have the same religion as you.
- 9:30Speaker 2: They don't have the same beliefs as you. And that's
- 9:33Speaker 2: the reality. You're viewing them from your perspective. Well, they
- 9:37Speaker 2: don't care much for you. I mean, they kind of
- 9:40Speaker 2: hate you. And this idea that these people are going
- 9:48Speaker 2: to revolt and side with America. Well, they probably aren't.
- 9:53Speaker 2: If you are in Iran and that's your country and
- 9:56Speaker 2: some other countries bombing the hell out of your home
- 9:58Speaker 2: and your neighborhood and that kind of stuff, you're probably
- 10:01Speaker 2: not going to be too supportive of that country. You're
- 10:03Speaker 2: probably going to side more with your countrymen because you
- 10:07Speaker 2: because you're under attack. Just human nature.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Well.
- 10:10Speaker 5: And we've got to try to get the people who
- 10:17Speaker 5: were regular Democrats, their parents or grandparents were regular Democrats,
- 10:22Speaker 5: to see, hey, this is a pathway to freedom, and
- 10:27Speaker 5: this is a pathway to, and it doesn't even have
- 10:30Speaker 5: to be Islamist dictatorship, but dictatorship. Look what the sheeple
- 10:36Speaker 5: did under the China virus. Lock it down. Close your schools.
- 10:41Speaker 5: Can't go to church. You know what? We can't. We
- 10:45Speaker 5: had a lesson right there just a couple years ago
- 10:49Speaker 5: that this isn't the way to go. And we're seeing,
- 10:54Speaker 5: I mean, you know, it's a long way to November.
- 10:57Speaker 5: This is just the primaries, blah, blah, blah. And hopefully
- 11:01Speaker 5: common sense will prevail. But we've got to do the
- 11:05Speaker 5: Charlie Kirk thing. I think you're right. and talk to
- 11:09Speaker 5: the people and understand why the hell are you thinking
- 11:12Speaker 5: this craziness. I know you keep saying, well, it was
- 11:15Speaker 5: never tried like this before. Communism, socialism was never tried
- 11:19Speaker 5: like this before. Guess what? It's never worked. It's not
- 11:24Speaker 5: going to work. And it always ends with the point
- 11:27Speaker 5: of a gun.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Yeah, but I sit back here and I get the
- 11:31Speaker 2: frustration because I look at our local political leaders and
- 11:37Speaker 2: I think they're making the problem worse. I don't think
- 11:39Speaker 2: they're making it better. I think they're making everything worse.
- 11:42Speaker 2: And I sincerely think they're out of touch and they
- 11:45Speaker 2: don't understand the damage that they're doing. So that's, I mean,
- 11:49Speaker 2: I just look at, I look at what's going on,
- 11:52Speaker 2: and I'm not optimistic.
- 11:57Speaker 5: And, right, I know he's the guy. I know he's your,
- 12:01Speaker 5: I don't know, whatever, but, and it says, let not
- 12:06Speaker 5: your heart be troubled.
- 12:07Speaker 4: It's supposed to be.
- 12:08Speaker 5: But we have to do like, what's that lady's name, Denise?
- 12:12Speaker 4: Yes.
- 12:13Speaker 5: Get out there and fight. You've got to do it.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Fight for what you want. There's a woman that's devoting
- 12:20Speaker 2: so much of her free time. You make a lot
- 12:23Speaker 2: of noise here. She's devoting so much of her free
- 12:26Speaker 2: time to go out and gather signatures to say, listen,
- 12:29Speaker 2: all I want is to put a constitutional amendment on
- 12:31Speaker 2: the ballot for you to vote to eliminate property taxes.
- 12:34Speaker 2: And I'm here to say to all of you, I
- 12:37Speaker 2: hope she's successful and I hope it passes. Because if
- 12:40Speaker 2: it doesn't, they will price all of you out of
- 12:42Speaker 2: your house. Every single one of you will be priced
- 12:45Speaker 2: out of your house. You just don't get it yet
- 12:47Speaker 2: because it continues to happen. And it's not just going
- 12:51Speaker 2: to be the elderly and we'll all be elderly one day. Well,
- 12:53Speaker 2: I already am. But you'll be elderly one day and
- 12:56Speaker 2: you will see. You will see the monster that you created.
- 13:01Speaker 2: I mean, it's just I am not put on this earth.
- 13:03Speaker 2: I'm not here. Don't make your problems my problems. I'm
- 13:06Speaker 2: not here to pay for or to solve all of
- 13:08Speaker 2: your problems. Some of them you got to own. There's
- 13:11Speaker 2: individual responsibility. that we should have in this country. We
- 13:15Speaker 2: can't say it's always up to the taxpayer. It's not
- 13:18Speaker 2: my problem if you drop out of high school. It's
- 13:21Speaker 2: not my problem if you decide to get hooked on drugs.
- 13:24Speaker 2: It's not my problem if you decide to have five
- 13:26Speaker 2: kids out of wedlock. These are decisions you made. And
- 13:29Speaker 2: you've got to suffer the consequences or deal with the
- 13:31Speaker 2: consequences of those, not me. I mean, and we've got
- 13:35Speaker 2: a society of people who think that should be everybody
- 13:38Speaker 2: else's bill to help all these people or pay for
- 13:42Speaker 2: this kind of stuff. There are consequences to the decisions
- 13:45Speaker 2: you make. You increase your odds of having a heart
- 13:49Speaker 2: attack and lung cancer. That's a reality. If you smoke marijuana, yes,
- 13:53Speaker 2: it's legal. There's also consequences to that because in the
- 13:57Speaker 2: whole scope of things, it's really not a healthy thing
- 13:59Speaker 2: to do. Just some stuff. Thank you, Jake. Appreciate it.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Appreciate the call. It's a lot to think about. But
- 14:08Speaker 2: it's why I spend so much time on it. And
- 14:13Speaker 2: it's just... As I say, so much just is disturbing
- 14:18Speaker 2: to me. I mean, it's disturbing to me that you
- 14:21Speaker 2: have like a library system that totally is ignoring the
- 14:25Speaker 2: citizens of Poland. The taxpayers, the people that live with
- 14:29Speaker 2: the library, the people that like that facility, and they're
- 14:31Speaker 2: just totally, well, pay your taxes, sit down, shut up,
- 14:35Speaker 2: we'll tell you what we're going to do. It's that
- 14:37Speaker 2: arrogance that annoys me. And I said, arrogance had come
- 14:42Speaker 2: from the county commissioners. We're going to do this project,
- 14:46Speaker 2: the Eastern Gateway project. And you didn't have a say
- 14:49Speaker 2: so on it, but you'll get stuck with the bonds.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Long after these people are out of office and somebody
- 14:54Speaker 2: else is in office, you get stuck with that decision.
- 14:57Speaker 2: You get stuck with the bonds in that lousy location,
- 15:00Speaker 2: lousy idea. But you get the bill for it. So
- 15:08Speaker 2: I don't know how much more they expect any of
- 15:10Speaker 2: you to be able, how much more money they can
- 15:13Speaker 2: take from you. I was just telling Joe Kovach earlier today,
- 15:16Speaker 2: I got my highest electric bill I can ever recall
- 15:19Speaker 2: in my life. Just got my electric bill. It was $ 300.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Now that's just where electric is for, I'm thinking, well,
- 15:29Speaker 2: that's obvious because it was hot. And yes, contrary to
- 15:33Speaker 2: John Kerry and the people in France, we ran our
- 15:35Speaker 2: air conditioning at 72. And I do have vent fans
- 15:41Speaker 2: in the attic that, you know, draw the hot air out.
- 15:43Speaker 2: There's a couple of those that are running pretty heavily
- 15:45Speaker 2: during that time. But $ 300 on something that last year
- 15:49Speaker 2: was $ 150. I'll be right back.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Mike Rowe here with a random and talk station, 570 WKBN.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Back to it. Ron Verb, and you're on air.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Hey, Ronald.
- 16:07Speaker 3: Yes.
- 16:08Speaker 6: You answered your own question on what the problem is.
- 16:12Speaker 6: The party that people have to work in is the
- 16:16Speaker 6: reason they don't want the Republican Party. And they would
- 16:19Speaker 6: vote for a chair if that's running for office. They
- 16:24Speaker 6: sit in school every day and listen to how bad
- 16:27Speaker 6: America is. You should be getting this. You should be
- 16:30Speaker 6: getting that. And then there's programs that they can get that,
- 16:33Speaker 6: can get that. They don't care what's happening there. They're
- 16:37Speaker 6: not going to vote any other way. But we have
- 16:40Speaker 6: only so many people to sway off that fence in
- 16:44Speaker 6: these elections. It's as simple as that.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Well, there's many people that are disappointed in the Republican
- 16:50Speaker 2: Party that are Republicans, saying, okay, where is the America?
- 16:54Speaker 3: I agree with you.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Where is the America first? I mean, there's plenty of
- 16:58Speaker 2: Republicans that we should have safe and secure elections. They're
- 17:02Speaker 2: not doing enough there to get that passed.
- 17:03Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 17:04Speaker 2: They're not getting enough people out of this country that
- 17:06Speaker 2: came here illegally. It seems like that's been derailed to
- 17:09Speaker 2: a large extent. There's this whole war in Iran situation
- 17:14Speaker 2: is just a mess. And the country or the constituents
- 17:17Speaker 2: of the country were never really had a say so
- 17:21Speaker 2: on this at all. And it just continues on. And
- 17:23Speaker 2: we see gas now today in my neck of the
- 17:25Speaker 2: woods now at 411 a gallon. And as we continue
- 17:29Speaker 2: to run out of oil, a serious situation. So many
- 17:31Speaker 2: people are saying the Republican Party doesn't do a good
- 17:34Speaker 2: job representing them, nor the Democratic Party. And they're very discouraged.
- 17:37Speaker 2: And justly so. Well, your country is $ 40- plus trillion in
- 17:41Speaker 2: debt and growing.
- 17:43Speaker 6: And so when they start promising even crazy things, that's
- 17:47Speaker 6: what they're going to lean to. Because they're upset. Hey, look,
- 17:50Speaker 6: if you're a kid, you're working 20 hours a week,
- 17:53Speaker 6: how in the heck are you driving a car with
- 17:55Speaker 6: this gas price?
- 17:56Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Exactly. Exactly.
- 17:59Speaker 6: It's there. So people that have a lot of money
- 18:02Speaker 6: that pretend it's not there, it's there for people, and
- 18:05Speaker 6: it's a serious thing for these people.
- 18:08Speaker 2: I think inflation and the price of everything is a
- 18:10Speaker 2: serious thing for everybody, and it needs to be addressed.
- 18:14Speaker 2: And that's why people are saying, I'm working hard, but
- 18:17Speaker 2: I'm not making it. There's got to be a different
- 18:19Speaker 2: way or a better way, because this way isn't going
- 18:22Speaker 2: to cut it. And that's why they probably vote that way.
- 18:26Speaker 6: And that's why your electric bill was high. Mine's crazy,
- 18:29Speaker 6: and I live like an Amish person. I couldn't turn
- 18:32Speaker 6: off more stuff than I turn off, and it's still crazy.
- 18:35Speaker 6: So think about some young guy trying to make it work.
- 18:39Speaker 6: He's got that. He's got gasoline prices. He's got gas prices.
- 18:43Speaker 6: He's got food prices. So what are you going to do?
- 18:46Speaker 6: You get on the system.
- 18:48Speaker 4: It's easier.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Probably so.
- 18:52Speaker 4: Probably so.
- 18:52Speaker 6: And that's a bad thing, but that is what's ruling
- 18:55Speaker 6: these elect... I mean, they don't care who's running.
- 18:58Speaker 3: They really don't.
- 18:59Speaker 6: Hey, what are you promising me? Free school, free..
- 19:01Speaker 4: Yep, that's it. Right.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Hey, forgive your student loan debt, like Biden said.
- 19:06Speaker 6: Yeah, but you see how many people bought that? Where's
- 19:10Speaker 6: it coming from?
- 19:10Speaker 4: They don't care.
- 19:11Speaker 6: They don't... And they're in college, and they haven't looked
- 19:14Speaker 6: up the socialism. It has never worked. That doesn't matter.
- 19:18Speaker 6: Somehow it's going to work now.
- 19:20Speaker 4: Right.
- 19:22Speaker 6: It's a house of cards, and it's going to fall.
- 19:26Speaker 3: I'm telling you, listen.
- 19:28Speaker 2: But you better fix the current system because the gap
- 19:32Speaker 2: is getting too wide. You better fix what's going on.
- 19:36Speaker 2: And you're going to have to do something about inflation
- 19:39Speaker 2: and affordability. These are real problems.
- 19:42Speaker 3: And if you don't.
- 19:43Speaker 6: Want an ID at a voting booth, you want to cheat.
- 19:47Speaker 6: There is no other possible way. way that that's a problem.
- 19:52Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't want to sound like I'm
- 19:53Speaker 2: bragging because I probably but you know what I did?
- 19:56Speaker 2: I flew on a jet airplane. That's right. I was
- 19:59Speaker 2: on a jet airplane. I know you probably have never
- 20:01Speaker 2: experienced something like that.
- 20:03Speaker 6: I've seen them in the sky, though.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Yes, I was actually a passenger on a jet airplane.
- 20:08Speaker 2: And when I went through this boarding process, I had
- 20:12Speaker 2: to show them my driver's license. I had to show
- 20:14Speaker 2: them my ID to even get on this jet airplane.
- 20:18Speaker 6: You were disenchanted for flying again then, weren't you?
- 20:21Speaker 2: No, I said, this is racist. That's what I said
- 20:23Speaker 2: to the guy. This is absolutely racist, and I shouldn't
- 20:27Speaker 2: have to show you an ID. And the guy said,
- 20:29Speaker 2: you stand over there. We're going to pat your ass down.
- 20:32Speaker 6: Did you know I got in trouble for saying, they're
- 20:38Speaker 6: patting down this lady who's like 75 years old. And
- 20:41Speaker 6: I go, I think I could kind of guess who
- 20:43Speaker 6: you might want to pat down. And boy, did that
- 20:47Speaker 6: cost me.
- 20:47Speaker 3: They came over to me like I was getting ready
- 20:51Speaker 3: to get thrown in the clink.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I probably would have done a cavity
- 20:56Speaker 2: search if it was necessary on a character like you.
- 21:03Speaker 6: Believe me, I've had some issues where they didn't trust
- 21:06Speaker 6: me with a good tan and gel back hair.
- 21:08Speaker 2: There you go. All right, Tiger. Have a good day.
- 21:11Speaker 2: News Radio 570. But you got to figure out what's
- 21:14Speaker 2: going on, why so many people are voting this way.
- 21:16Speaker 2: You can't ignore it. The problem with Trump is he
- 21:18Speaker 2: just name calls these people. They're this, they're that and everything. No,
- 21:22Speaker 2: we better figure out. Too many people are working too
- 21:25Speaker 2: hard and they're being left behind because of this inflation.
- 21:28Speaker 2: You're working hard. You can't afford a house. You can't
- 21:30Speaker 2: afford a new vehicle. You're having a tough time making it.
- 21:34Speaker 2: I'll get into more of this and take more of
- 21:36Speaker 2: your calls straight ahead, 330-729-9977.
- 21:38Speaker 1: News Radio 570, WKBN. A Stark.
- 21:45Speaker 8: County woman has died following a collision with a commercial
- 21:47Speaker 8: vehicle Tuesday morning. 24-year-old Veronica Winland of Navarre was riding
- 21:52Speaker 8: an e-bike when she was hit just after 10 a.m.
- 21:54Speaker 8: The highway patrol says Winland failed to yield at a
- 21:57Speaker 8: stoplight and hit a trailer being hauled by the other vehicle.
- 22:01Speaker 8: A man is dead in Montgomery County following a shooting
- 22:04Speaker 8: early this morning. At around 2.15, Sheriff's Office deputies responded
- 22:08Speaker 8: to Fairport Avenue in Harrison Township on a report of
- 22:10Speaker 8: a burglary. When they arrived, the deputies found the victim
- 22:14Speaker 8: with a gunshot wound. He died at the scene. The
- 22:17Speaker 8: Buckeyes are sitting in the top spot of the preseason
- 22:19Speaker 8: coaches poll. Ohio State is listed as the number one
- 22:22Speaker 8: college football program in the nation in the rankings released yesterday.
- 22:26Speaker 8: Oregon came in at number two, with Georgia, Texas, and
- 22:29Speaker 8: Notre Dame rounding out the top five.
- 22:32Speaker 2: I'm Andy Betts.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Listen on the free iHeartRadio app for all your music, news, talk,
- 22:37Speaker 1: and sports radio.
- 22:38Speaker 4: Podcasts, too.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Download the app.
- 22:41Speaker 4: Free never sounded so good.
- 22:43Speaker 2: A to Z dependable services. Now, Ron Verb. On NewsRadio 570, WKBN.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Back to it. News Radio 570 WKBN 334 here in
- 22:56Speaker 2: the afternoon on a Wednesday, August 5th. Not that far
- 23:00Speaker 2: into Canfield Fairby here. Something to look forward to in August.
- 23:05Speaker 2: The Canfield Fair. Here's my hope. I'm hoping that it's
- 23:08Speaker 2: not going to be like really hot when it's fair time.
- 23:12Speaker 2: I'm hoping it'll be comfortable weather. Do you remember the
- 23:14Speaker 2: year that the fair was on and it was like
- 23:16Speaker 2: really hot and humid, 90-degree days during Canfield Fair, and
- 23:20Speaker 2: they had low attendance because no one wanted to go
- 23:22Speaker 2: out there? There's certainly not the volume of people wanting
- 23:25Speaker 2: to go out there when it was that hot and
- 23:27Speaker 2: that humid and walk on the pavement, that kind of stuff.
- 23:30Speaker 2: I can't recall what year that was, but I know
- 23:33Speaker 2: it happened one of these years. They all blend together anymore.
- 23:37Speaker 2: But I'm hoping for more comfortable weather again this year
- 23:41Speaker 2: so that you can go out and enjoy the fair.
- 23:44Speaker 2: So fair time is not that far away. Then once
- 23:47Speaker 2: the fair is done, then you really notice how the
- 23:49Speaker 2: days are getting shorter. Then you boom. When the fair
- 23:52Speaker 2: is over, it seems like there's a switch and kids
- 23:55Speaker 2: are back in school. The days get shorter and it's
- 23:58Speaker 2: just it's depressing. It's what it is. All right. You're
- 24:03Speaker 2: on the air.
- 24:03Speaker 4: Hello.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Hello?
- 24:07Speaker 4: Yes.
- 24:11Speaker 7: Yeah, Ron. So, do you remember back when they started
- 24:16Speaker 7: a petition for property taxes?
- 24:19Speaker 4: Yes.
- 24:21Speaker 7: And our commissioners were all up in arms.
- 24:25Speaker 4: They had no idea what to do. What are we
- 24:27Speaker 4: going to do? What are we going to do?
- 24:29Speaker 7: These people don't want to think outside the box. They
- 24:31Speaker 7: want to collect a paycheck and don't do anything to
- 24:34Speaker 7: help the people of this community.
- 24:37Speaker 4: None of them. Yes. Okay.
- 24:40Speaker 7: So what I think we should do as the middle class, because,
- 24:48Speaker 7: of course, the lower class don't work and the upper
- 24:50Speaker 7: class got more money than they know what to do with.
- 24:52Speaker 7: The middle class is the one who suffers the most, correct?
- 24:56Speaker 2: I like your analysis. Yeah. I think everyone's suffering now
- 25:01Speaker 2: except your high income. I think most people are suffering.
- 25:04Speaker 2: But go ahead.
- 25:05Speaker 4: All right.
- 25:06Speaker 7: But correct. So, and all our money is going everywhere.
- 25:11Speaker 7: The fraud, geez, what else? You know, the way our
- 25:18Speaker 7: money is being distributed to taxpayers is totally gross and unjust,
- 25:23Speaker 7: for the most part.
- 25:25Speaker 2: How much of it is wasted?
- 25:28Speaker 7: Well, true, the waste, the fraud, the Medicare fraud, the
- 25:33Speaker 7: daycare fraud.
- 25:34Speaker 4: Yep. everything.
- 25:37Speaker 7: You know, it's totally ridiculous. So as taxpayers, the middle
- 25:42Speaker 7: class ought to all band together and say.
- 25:46Speaker 5: Screw you.
- 25:47Speaker 7: We're going to go tax exempt and not pay any taxes.
- 25:52Speaker 7: What are we going to do? Turn the whole middle
- 25:54Speaker 7: class in jail?
- 25:58Speaker 2: But it'll never happen because we're too afraid to do that.
- 26:03Speaker 7: Well, that's the other problem. People don't have, how I say, the...
- 26:11Speaker 7: What's the proper word for the radio?
- 26:13Speaker 4: Balls?
- 26:13Speaker 2: They don't have the balls?
- 26:16Speaker 5: There you go.
- 26:16Speaker 7: I just didn't want to say it'd get in any trouble.
- 26:20Speaker 2: That's all right. I covered it for you. I covered
- 26:22Speaker 2: it for you. But listen, let me back up a bit.
- 26:26Speaker 2: I know I've got to pay taxes, and you do too.
- 26:30Speaker 2: I know I need a guy to plow my roads
- 26:32Speaker 2: when it's wintertime and salt them. I know I need
- 26:34Speaker 2: a cop if I got to make a call to
- 26:36Speaker 2: the police or a fireman or an ambulance. I know
- 26:40Speaker 2: I need services that government has. I know we got
- 26:42Speaker 2: to have a county jail to put the bums in
- 26:44Speaker 2: that the cops arrest in a court system and all
- 26:48Speaker 2: this kind of stuff. So I know what my needs
- 26:50Speaker 2: are as far as my community is concerned. So I'm
- 26:54Speaker 2: not opposed to funding that and paying for that kind
- 26:57Speaker 2: of stuff. It's just all this other crap that they
- 27:00Speaker 2: expect me to pay for that's either on my property
- 27:03Speaker 2: taxes or they spend my money on. It's all this
- 27:07Speaker 2: other stuff. They want to make everybody else's problems my problems.
- 27:11Speaker 2: And it's the library system and how... How much money
- 27:16Speaker 2: is being just spent foolishly by them and the arrogance
- 27:20Speaker 2: of the library system and not fixing the building for
- 27:25Speaker 2: the people of Poland Township. And there's a shining example
- 27:30Speaker 2: of what I think are wasted tax dollars. All these
- 27:33Speaker 2: people that were hired that are not necessary, that are
- 27:38Speaker 2: paper pushers, basically.
- 27:42Speaker 7: Well, absolutely. And I'm agreeing with you 100 percent. We
- 27:45Speaker 7: need our fire. We need our police. You know, but
- 27:48Speaker 7: of course, if it's up to New York and the
- 27:50Speaker 7: Democrats up in Michigan, they'll go away with the police.
- 27:54Speaker 4: Don't they?
- 27:56Speaker 2: Yeah. If it's up to the Democrats, yes.
- 28:01Speaker 7: Unfortunately, it's true. And the way that our country is going,
- 28:07Speaker 7: what do you do?
- 28:08Speaker 4: The way they..
- 28:09Speaker 7: Why do we have to keep sending all this money
- 28:11Speaker 7: to all these other countries?
- 28:13Speaker 2: Right.
- 28:14Speaker 4: Right.
- 28:14Speaker 2: I'm totally opposed to it.
- 28:15Speaker 7: It is unnecessary.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Right.
- 28:19Speaker 7: You know, for years, for years, we were the police
- 28:23Speaker 7: of the world.
- 28:24Speaker 4: Yep.
- 28:27Speaker 7: Somebody needed help. We, you know, taxpayers paid for it
- 28:30Speaker 7: because our military would go in and take care of business. Well,
- 28:33Speaker 7: and of course, Donald Trump, you know, and I voted
- 28:36Speaker 7: for Trump every time, you know, but he's pissing me
- 28:39Speaker 7: off really.
- 28:39Speaker 4: Bad right now.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Me too.
- 28:44Speaker 7: You know, a lot of the stuff he said, he, well,
- 28:46Speaker 7: typical policy, you know, everybody says, well, he's not a politician.
- 28:49Speaker 7: He's a businessman. Well, yeah. You know, you need a
- 28:52Speaker 7: businessman to run the country because politicians can't, you know, um,
- 28:57Speaker 7: And the problem is now he's going back on... You know,
- 29:00Speaker 7: he's falling into that politician's mind. You know, they tell
- 29:04Speaker 7: you what you want to hear, and they all do it.
- 29:06Speaker 7: I don't care who they are. Whether, you know, whether
- 29:09Speaker 7: they're a congressman, a senator, it doesn't matter. They all
- 29:12Speaker 7: tell you the same thing when they want to get elected.
- 29:14Speaker 7: And then once they get elected, they don't give two
- 29:16Speaker 7: shits about any of us.
- 29:18Speaker 4: Right.
- 29:18Speaker 3: And they don't.
- 29:19Speaker 4: Right.
- 29:21Speaker 7: You know, and unfortunately, you know... It seems that it
- 29:26Speaker 7: doesn't matter who you elect. You know, look at the White.
- 29:30Speaker 7: He's all up in arms about these Haitians.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:34Speaker 7: They're part of the community.
- 29:35Speaker 4: Well, they shouldn't have been.
- 29:35Speaker 7: Here in the first place.
- 29:37Speaker 2: Right.
- 29:39Speaker 4: Right.
- 29:39Speaker 7: You know, so you need to go. They all need
- 29:42Speaker 7: to go.
- 29:42Speaker 2: Right.
- 29:43Speaker 7: And the problem, as I see, is people are getting
- 29:46Speaker 7: fed up. They're getting fed up and they're going to
- 29:51Speaker 7: start taking matters into their own hands, I have a feeling.
- 29:55Speaker 4: You know, to a point.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Because..
- 29:58Speaker 7: These politicians, they don't even want to listen to you.
- 30:01Speaker 7: When you go to a meeting and say something, they.
- 30:03Speaker 3: Don't want to hear it. Look what's going on with
- 30:05Speaker 3: all these AI centers.
- 30:06Speaker 7: These people are up in arms.
- 30:07Speaker 2: They don't want it.
- 30:08Speaker 4: And then people are telling you, too bad.
- 30:12Speaker 7: Your voice doesn't count. And when your voice doesn't start counting,
- 30:16Speaker 7: we're in a lot of trouble.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Well, I'm listening to every word you're saying, and I'm
- 30:21Speaker 2: agreeing with everything you're saying. I can't add anything other
- 30:25Speaker 2: than aye-aye, Captain. Well stated.
- 30:26Speaker 4: Ha!
- 30:28Speaker 7: Well, thank you, sir.
- 30:29Speaker 4: You have a great day.
- 30:30Speaker 2: Thank you. I think I'm going to vote for that
- 30:31Speaker 2: guy right there. You're on the air.
- 30:34Speaker 4: Hello. He's got my vote, too.
- 30:40Speaker 2: Well, see, he's on a roll. I mean, it's just
- 30:45Speaker 2: I get the frustration. Listen, I'm not a fan of
- 30:48Speaker 2: most of these local politicians around here. Most of them
- 30:52Speaker 2: certainly don't impress me at all. They don't impress me
- 30:55Speaker 2: with their... with their wisdom or their uh... leadership skills
- 31:01Speaker 2: i mean dave thomas being exception to that as far
- 31:03Speaker 2: as the state rep is concerned i tell you people
- 31:06Speaker 2: that have impressed me in politics i'm thoroughly impressed by
- 31:09Speaker 2: ron de santis i think he's the best governor on
- 31:11Speaker 2: the on the plan i think ron de santis is
- 31:13Speaker 2: a terrific governor i would love to see him be
- 31:15Speaker 2: president i think he's a very very smart man and
- 31:19Speaker 2: i think he would really do a good job running
- 31:20Speaker 2: this country if that's possible with all the special interest
- 31:25Speaker 2: and the money that corrupts everything. But I think that
- 31:28Speaker 2: of DeSantis. I think that Dave Thomas is outstanding. I
- 31:32Speaker 2: think John Pleschnik, the commissioner in Lake County, is a
- 31:36Speaker 2: shining star. Brian Massey that's leading the charge to get
- 31:41Speaker 2: the constitutional amendment on the ballot to repeal property taxes.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Denise that circulates these petitions. There are so many great
- 31:49Speaker 2: people that are out there that are doing things that
- 31:55Speaker 2: I give them credit for, that they're trying to get
- 31:58Speaker 2: things accomplished to make things better for you. But the
- 32:04Speaker 2: rest of them, I don't sense it.
- 32:07Speaker 4: Do you? I don't either. They got themselves wrapped up
- 32:13Speaker 4: around so much junk that they can't get out of it.
- 32:17Speaker 4: They need to get voted out of there. Get them
- 32:21Speaker 4: old heads out of there. And just start pumping people
- 32:25Speaker 4: in there. If they don't work, pump, get them out
- 32:26Speaker 4: of there again.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Yeah, but somehow they get elected and they get reelected.
- 32:31Speaker 2: It's absolutely beyond me to watch this scenario. I mean,
- 32:38Speaker 2: it's totally beyond me. I talk about George McKelvey a
- 32:41Speaker 2: lot because George McKelvey always viewed the people who voted
- 32:44Speaker 2: for him as customers. He didn't care whether you agreed
- 32:47Speaker 2: or disagreed with him politically. If you're a Republican or Democrat,
- 32:50Speaker 2: to him, you were a customer. And if you had
- 32:52Speaker 2: an issue, he'd do his best to try to fix
- 32:55Speaker 2: it for you. I sensed that from Pat Anguero when
- 32:58Speaker 2: he was around as well. I sensed he was like that.
- 33:04Speaker 2: I thought Traffick did a good job as a congressman.
- 33:07Speaker 2: I don't sense anybody that's been in Congress since him
- 33:09Speaker 2: has represented you or this community to the degree he's
- 33:13Speaker 2: represented it. Do you?
- 33:16Speaker 4: You're absolutely right. I had always said that he got ripped.
- 33:20Speaker 4: They went after him because he wouldn't. following suit with
- 33:23Speaker 4: the rest of the Democrats, so they figured out a
- 33:25Speaker 4: way to get rid of him, and they let the
- 33:27Speaker 4: Republicans do it.
- 33:28Speaker 2: Well, I look back and I say, all the stuff
- 33:31Speaker 2: that he did, the federal courthouses, the improvements out at
- 33:33Speaker 2: the airbase, the Covelli Center, the 7-Eleven connector, I mean,
- 33:39Speaker 2: I can tell you everything he was able to accomplish
- 33:42Speaker 2: as a man, as a congressman, and yet his name
- 33:45Speaker 2: doesn't appear on any of it. It's as though he never..
- 33:51Speaker 4: We were without electric. Guests who reached out and snatched
- 33:56Speaker 4: a military generating system, got it to Niles, so Niles
- 34:01Speaker 4: could have electricity back in certain areas.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Trafficking?
- 34:06Speaker 4: That was never talked about. Yeah.
- 34:09Speaker 2: I mean, Trafican was a well-educated person. Trafican was a
- 34:13Speaker 2: smart guy, and I thought he did a lot of
- 34:16Speaker 2: good for the community. I thought he was the most
- 34:19Speaker 2: effective congressman. Tim Ryan was a joke. Michael Rooley is
- 34:25Speaker 2: Michael Rooley. He's no Jim Trafican is all I can say.
- 34:28Speaker 2: I mean, I'm kind of expecting more from him than
- 34:33Speaker 2: I'm seeing at this point.
- 34:35Speaker 4: Rooley and Marino, they're I have called him I don't
- 34:39Speaker 4: know how many times. And I've never gotten anything back
- 34:43Speaker 4: except that answering service or go to dot, dot, dot, dot, whatever,
- 34:50Speaker 4: and put it in. So I tried. I never got
- 34:51Speaker 4: anything out of either one of them two jokers.
- 34:53Speaker 2: I will tell you this, though. From a Senate standpoint,
- 34:57Speaker 2: I'm rather enjoying Bernie Marino. I mean, I like him
- 35:02Speaker 2: as senator. I must confess that. I do like what
- 35:04Speaker 2: I see with Bernie Marino. I mean, I like that.
- 35:08Speaker 2: There's no way in hell I'd ever vote for Sherrod Brown.
- 35:11Speaker 2: I mean, when I see a commercial of Sherrod Brown
- 35:14Speaker 2: talking about all this stuff that he wants to do,
- 35:16Speaker 2: I sit there and scream. I said, for God's sakes,
- 35:18Speaker 2: you were there for 30 years. Why didn't you do
- 35:21Speaker 2: it then? I mean, it's ridiculous.
- 35:23Speaker 4: Maybe he realized he screwed up.
- 35:26Speaker 2: I doubt it. I mean, you had all that time.
- 35:29Speaker 2: Your time has passed. You should have done it then.
- 35:33Speaker 2: Now let's let somebody else take over.
- 35:38Speaker 4: I don't know what to say on that anymore. It's
- 35:39Speaker 4: a toss-up. I mean, he's fighting because his son-in-law is
- 35:45Speaker 4: doing all this nasty stuff to get him kicked out.
- 35:48Speaker 4: What did he do with the Epstein stuff?
- 35:52Speaker 2: But the Epstein stuff doesn't involve him personally. I don't
- 35:55Speaker 2: know where he stands on releasing that, but it doesn't
- 35:57Speaker 2: involve him personally. The stuff with his son-in-law is deeply disturbing.
- 36:01Speaker 2: There's two sides to every story, but it seems deeply disturbing.
- 36:05Speaker 2: And I look at Bernie Marino as a father who
- 36:08Speaker 2: cares a great deal about his daughter. I view it
- 36:10Speaker 2: quite differently. I view it as a father that's concerned
- 36:14Speaker 2: about his daughter and his granddaughter.
- 36:18Speaker 4: Well, I understand. Now, we both are, aren't we, about
- 36:21Speaker 4: our daughters and our sons?
- 36:22Speaker 2: Yes, we are. There's nothing more important in your life
- 36:25Speaker 2: than your children.
- 36:29Speaker 4: And your wife, too. I remember her now.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Thanks for covering the basis for me. I appreciate that.
- 36:37Speaker 4: I get reminded of that every day.
- 36:40Speaker 2: No, I mean, you know, so... I mean, I wish
- 36:43Speaker 2: I could sit here. Like I keep saying, I've got
- 36:46Speaker 2: to get Pleschnik back on the program. He's a commissioner
- 36:48Speaker 2: in Lake County. When this guy comes on and when
- 36:51Speaker 2: he's done, you'll just find him so refreshing. His honesty,
- 36:55Speaker 2: his thought process. You just say, this guy is fantastic.
- 37:00Speaker 2: And you look at our commissioners and you say, where's
- 37:03Speaker 2: that here? Where is that passion? Where is that support
- 37:08Speaker 2: for the taxpayer? Where is that? It's non-existent.
- 37:15Speaker 4: Well, you take away the taxes, how's the state of
- 37:18Speaker 4: Ohio going to make it?
- 37:19Speaker 2: Well, I'm not saying you can't take away all the taxes,
- 37:22Speaker 2: but you certainly can take a look at all the
- 37:24Speaker 2: money that's going in and where it's being spent. I'm
- 37:27Speaker 2: sure you can reduce a lot of spending and let
- 37:30Speaker 2: you keep a lot of your money. Let's put it
- 37:32Speaker 2: that way, whether that's statewide... or even locally.
- 37:37Speaker 4: I understand that, but when the Haitians got here in Ohio,
- 37:40Speaker 4: even our governor and part of the group down at
- 37:44Speaker 4: Columbus said, Trump is wrong about these people. They were
- 37:47Speaker 4: here for a special reason, and we allowed him in.
- 37:52Speaker 4: temporarily all of a sudden they're eating what our dogs
- 37:55Speaker 4: our cats and our ducks i can't believe this.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Nonsense they're eating the dogs.
- 38:05Speaker 4: He didn't come out say they're eating the rats so
- 38:07Speaker 4: i mean hey that would be a positive thing.
- 38:08Speaker 2: That's uh but uh hey you're here temporarily now you
- 38:13Speaker 2: gotta go i mean see you later that's that's all
- 38:16Speaker 2: there is to it i mean.
- 38:19Speaker 4: You talking to me?
- 38:20Speaker 2: No, I'm talking to the Haitians. Are you Haitian?
- 38:24Speaker 7: No.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Then you can stay.
- 38:26Speaker 4: Oh, thank you very much. I appreciate your support.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Yes. I'll let you stay, old-timer. It's like I anointed
- 38:34Speaker 2: myself king all of a sudden. I make all the decisions.
- 38:38Speaker 2: You look at DeWine. I don't get DeWine. He's been
- 38:42Speaker 2: a certainly disappointment as governor, to say the least.
- 38:46Speaker 4: Well, yeah, on some things, but... Some things not. I mean,
- 38:51Speaker 4: you can't always be perfect all the time or make
- 38:55Speaker 4: every right decision.
- 38:58Speaker 5: It's tough.
- 38:59Speaker 4: It's tough because everything you move or you do is
- 39:02Speaker 4: going to be watched. And it's hard. I mean, I
- 39:06Speaker 4: can only just imagine being governor. Thank God I was
- 39:11Speaker 4: not governor because I'd be jumping all over these people
- 39:14Speaker 4: screaming and yelling at them while they're trying to do
- 39:17Speaker 4: some work. to get something done for the people here
- 39:20Speaker 4: in the state. We're losing jobs left and right.
- 39:24Speaker 2: Well, I don't think so around here.
- 39:25Speaker 4: That's all over the whole United States.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Well, are we losing them? to technology? Maybe so. I
- 39:33Speaker 2: would agree. Technology has replaced a lot of people and
- 39:36Speaker 2: probably will continue to. But, you know, from our standpoint, remember,
- 39:39Speaker 2: construction jobs are booming around here. They're building that Kimberly
- 39:43Speaker 2: Clark plant out in Trumbull County. I mean, granted, the
- 39:47Speaker 2: battery plant doesn't seem like that's panned out too good, right?
- 39:50Speaker 2: Because the demand isn't there for those vehicles. So you've
- 39:53Speaker 2: got a lot of those guys that are just laid off.
- 39:56Speaker 4: Yeah, well, you're right about that. But then again, them
- 39:58Speaker 4: vehicles don't look so bad anymore when you've got to
- 40:01Speaker 4: pay this high price in fuel.
- 40:02Speaker 2: That's what I was thinking, too.
- 40:04Speaker 4: It just amazes me. And then here we're trying to
- 40:09Speaker 4: get this wind and solar power going. It makes me
- 40:14Speaker 4: laugh because now our electric rates are going up. Why?
- 40:17Speaker 4: It's going up.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Stand by. Stand by. I want to talk to you
- 40:22Speaker 2: about electric rates and more. Call us in line. Stick around.
- 40:24Speaker 2: More to come right after this. I heart radio.
- 40:27Speaker 5: I'm Dr.
- 40:28Speaker 8: Cheryl Figliano.
- 40:29Speaker 1: News Radio 570 WKBN.
- 40:32Speaker 2: All right, Ron Verb with you. I got something for you.
- 40:37Speaker 4: I got something for you.
- 40:38Speaker 2: Yes.
- 40:39Speaker 4: Okay, over in Europe there. I think it was in England.
- 40:41Speaker 4: They built this big, huge grid.
- 40:44Speaker 7: Okay?
- 40:45Speaker 4: For a little of solar power. And they come across.
- 40:49Speaker 4: And when they got it done, they were going to
- 40:50Speaker 4: flip the switch. Everybody was getting ready for flipping the
- 40:54Speaker 4: switch to put it into the grid. And the people
- 40:58Speaker 4: on the grid called back and said, you can't do it.
- 40:59Speaker 4: We aren't structurally made for all that. But you've got
- 41:04Speaker 4: a nice power system, but we've got to create a
- 41:06Speaker 4: bigger grid so we can accept that power and put
- 41:10Speaker 4: it out there. So now, my nephew... The company he
- 41:16Speaker 4: works for comes out of England, and they asked him
- 41:19Speaker 4: to come over there because they wanted to see how
- 41:22Speaker 4: he did the work and how well he could teach
- 41:23Speaker 4: people and what they might be able to help him
- 41:26Speaker 4: out with. So he got to see a little bit
- 41:28Speaker 4: of England there for about two or three weeks, and
- 41:31Speaker 4: one of the things he's come out was he was
- 41:34Speaker 4: shocked to hear that he could have went to France
- 41:38Speaker 4: on one of his weekends by plane for $ 40 to France. Now,
- 41:47Speaker 4: ain't that something? I'd like to see you go to
- 41:49Speaker 4: the airport out here or up in Cleveland, down in Pittsburgh,
- 41:52Speaker 4: put $ 40 down. I want to go to Chicago. They'll
- 41:56Speaker 4: laugh you right out of the place.
- 41:57Speaker 2: Well, how could you afford to do so? Jet fuel
- 41:59Speaker 2: is so expensive these days. I mean, you can't pay
- 42:02Speaker 2: $ 40 to go. If you're paying $ 40, I don't understand that.
- 42:07Speaker 4: Well, the refineries over there are keeping it up. BP
- 42:11Speaker 4: and them, they're all keeping that up. In the United States,
- 42:15Speaker 4: we have it, and we don't. And the only way
- 42:17Speaker 4: we're going to get it is if we get these
- 42:19Speaker 4: people to quit making these big, huge bonuses to build
- 42:23Speaker 4: a plant. But they want the federal government to give
- 42:26Speaker 4: them the money to build it. And when you take
- 42:29Speaker 4: a look at the profits they made in the second quarter, what,
- 42:32Speaker 4: $ 20 million more than they made last year? And it
- 42:37Speaker 4: just shocks me that when they turn around and say, well,
- 42:40Speaker 4: how can you do that and have all that money
- 42:43Speaker 4: and yet our gas is so high? They didn't really
- 42:48Speaker 4: have a good answer for it, except that's just business.
- 42:52Speaker 2: Well, the war has created this problem. Trump has created
- 42:56Speaker 2: this problem because you've got 20 to 30 million barrels
- 43:01Speaker 2: a day shortage in the oil markets.
- 43:04Speaker 4: Only here in the United States by their records. If
- 43:07Speaker 4: you can fly from England to France for 40 bucks,
- 43:10Speaker 4: that's saying over there they're keeping everything running right.
- 43:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know about that. I'd have to check
- 43:16Speaker 2: that out. All right, old-timer, good hearing your voice. You've
- 43:19Speaker 2: got a pleasant voice. You've got a pleasant way about you.
- 43:22Speaker 2: He calms me down. More to come right after the break,
- 43:24Speaker 2: so you stay tuned. Ron Furb, Kingdom of Mahoning.
