Speaker 1: Hello there, welcome to the Black Girls Consult 2 podcast.
• 1:14
Speaker 1: I'm so excited that you are tuning in for this episode.
• 1:17
Speaker 1: I have a lot in store because we have been talking about showing up and claiming the spotlight instead of just solely working behind the scenes.
• 1:26
Speaker 1: So many of us, as experts in our field, consultants, very knowledgeable people in our space, we're used to doing all the grunt work.
• 1:36
Speaker 1: We're used to making everything flow, working out all the kinks, solving all the problems, doing all the things to make everyone else shine.
• 1:46
  Speaker 1: But guess what?
• 1:47
Speaker 1: It's your time to step into the spotlight, and what better way to do that than with video?
• 1:53
Speaker 1: I mean really no matter what platform you're on LinkedIn, instagram, facebook, youtube, it doesn't matter.
• 1:59
Speaker 1: No matter what you're trying to do speak on the stage, sell a book, land more clients.
• 2:05
Speaker 1: Everything now, in this current time, requires you to put your face to video At least if you want to grow above and beyond your competition.
• 2:16
Speaker 1: So I decided that it's time to bring on an expert in that space.
• 2:22
Speaker 1: That's definitely not me.
• 2:23
Speaker 1: I'm still in the process of growing and trying to build my video presence, but I do have a wonderful friend that is going to join this conversation, and I think that you are going to love it.
• 2:37
Speaker 1: A thriving consulting business is built on a solid business foundation and a consulting code that leads you toward your ideal business and your ideal lifestyle.
• 2:48
Speaker 1: And the great thing about this code is that it works for any type of consulting practice.
• 2:53
Speaker 1: Whether you help clients with professional development, business management, grant writing, it or something entirely different.
• 3:00
Speaker 1: This consulting code is not rocket science and is not beyond your reach, and when you crack the code, it can jumpstart the growth of your solo consulting practice and is what you need to know to get started and lend your first clients, and nothing more.
• 3:15
Speaker 1: This is a step by step process I wish I had so many years ago, and that's why I wanted to share this with you and how you can do this too.
• 3:24
Speaker 1: So if you're interested in starting your consulting business and creating a desirable offer to generate leads for your offer and to make sales, then the consulting code is your solution.

• 3:41
Speaker 1: All right, hello there.
• 3:45
Speaker 1: I'm so glad that we're getting a chance to sit down and catch up.
• 3:49
Speaker 1: I feel like I've known you forever, because I initially ran across your Instagram page and I was like who is this with this amazing video presence, and I couldn't wait to get my hands on your course.
• 4:01
Speaker 1: So I want you now, if you can, to introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about your business and what you do, and just how you found your way into TV and media in general.
• 4:13
Speaker 2: Well, thank you so much for having me.
• 4:14
Speaker 2: I'm so glad we connected.
• 4:16
  Speaker 2: Years ago.
• 4:17
  Speaker 2: I feel like it's been a while.
• 4:20
Speaker 2: Yeah, I started in TV many, many years ago, but basically what I do now is I help entrepreneurs, small businesses, use video, leverage video to grow their business, build an audience, connect with their community.
• 4:33
Speaker 2: But my background way, way, way, way back in the day almost 20 years now was in TV And I started working in unscripted television as a producer, director, writer and worked my way from the very, very bottom to the top and eventually got burned out and decided there's got to be another way that I can use all these skills that I have working in TV and digital media.
• 4:57
Speaker 2: How can I sort of transfer this to a career that's a little bit less crazy and chaotic?
• 5:04
Speaker 2: Because, if you know anything about TV, the hours are insane.
• 5:07
Speaker 2: I could only Yeah, yeah, I mean working as a business owner, they can get insane too right, But I really wanted something that just allowed me the freedom to work at my own schedule, work with the people that I wanted to work with, but still get to do the thing that I love, which is work in video and work in a creative environment, And so that's what I do now.
• 5:28
Speaker 2: I used all the skillset that I had as a TV producer, as a director, as a writer, and I sort of relay those into helping other people use video.
• 5:37
Speaker 1: I think that is needed beyond belief because when I was starting out, one of the biggest hangups I had was showing up on video.
• 5:45
Speaker 1: Even now, i always feel a little bit uneasy and weird Talking to myself at least, i feel like I'm talking to myself And I think a lot of times that's one of the biggest hangups that many people have when they're going into the online space especially, or even if they're just trying to market their business in general and they want to use video.
• 6:03
Speaker 1: It's really hard much harder, i found, than even speaking on a stage because it's new, it's different, you don't know how you sound or look And sometimes it's a shock of just seeing yourself.
• 6:17
Speaker 1: So how do you get people comfortable with that whole process?
• 6:20
Speaker 2: So first I have to say A you do very well.
• 6:23
Speaker 2: I've been watching your evolution of being on camera and you've gotten so good at it.
• 6:28
Speaker 2: I also just wanted to admit really quick that, even though I come from TV, i was the same way I initially when I transitioned from working as a producer.
• 6:37
Speaker 2: I started as a business coach.
• 6:38
Speaker 2: I went through a coaching program and became a business coach, and it was very slowly that I dipped my toe into using video, because I had already known about video, because it had been my career for so long.
• 6:50
Speaker 2: I couldn't hide from the fact of what a great marketing tool it was and what a great way to sort of fast track that no like trust factor that we all need to gain clients in our business.
• 7:02
Speaker 2: And so I tried to hide for as long as I could And then eventually I was like all right, i have to suck it up.
• 7:07
Speaker 2: If I'm going to tell my clients to get on camera, i have to do it myself.
• 7:10
Speaker 2: And that really was sort of the impetus, because if I had it my way, i still would be telling you and showing you how to get on camera, but not doing it myself, because I didn't like to be on camera, but what happened was the more I got on camera, the better I got at it, and now it's.
• 7:26
Speaker 2: I actually enjoy doing it because it's such a faster way to connect with people and you sort of like jump hurdles in terms of like getting to know people.
• 7:36
Speaker 2: You get to know people when you write emails to your client list or texting or DMing, but there's just something different about video.
• 7:42
Speaker 2: It's like you have a direct access to your audience, and so the way that I got comfortable is not a very exciting answer, it's just by continuously doing it.
• 7:52
Speaker 2: But what I will say is my job as a producer was working with everything from like A-list talent to some of the big name celebrities that everybody knows, to people that I'd never stepped foot in front of the camera, and those are the people that actually enjoy working with the best, because They're the ones that are the most scared.
• 8:10
Speaker 2: But there's also the ones that are most real.
• 8:12
Speaker 2: They're not like hi, how's it going?
• 8:15
Speaker 2: I'm here, you know.
• 8:16
Speaker 2: They're the ones that are just trying to be themselves in a way that doesn't come off shaky or nervous, and those are the most fun to work with, because we get a really good transformation of how they were before we work together and how they are after.
• 8:29
Speaker 2: And One of the things that I always tell people in the very beginning is and you mentioned it speaking on stage is actually Easier because you get feedback.
• 8:37
Speaker 2: You get to see the look on people's faces when you're talking to them, when you're speaking into a Really cold camera lens.
• 8:44
Speaker 2: That's not giving you anything.
• 8:46
Speaker 2: You crack a joke, it's not laughing, you don't know if you're doing good or not.
• 8:49
Speaker 2: So I will say, speaking in public is definitely easier, but it's also the same.
• 8:55
Speaker 2: People get so stressed out about saying the wrong thing or coming off looking unprofessional on camera.
• 9:00
Speaker 2: But you handle it the same way you would in real life, whether you're on stage, whether you're in a meeting and you're, you know, standing up and talking to everybody.
• 9:09
Speaker 2: It's the same, it is literally the same.
• 9:12
Speaker 2: The only difference is, if you save the video, i may be able to rewind and watch it again.
• 9:16
Speaker 2: That's it as an audience member, but it really is the same.
• 9:20
Speaker 1: But you know that professionalism piece is such a mental hurdle.
• 9:23
Speaker 1: I know I struggled with it, still struggle with it, if I'm honest about it, and so many other professionals out there, especially in the consulting space, struggle with that whole aspect of being professional on camera and it leads, i think, sometimes seeming Very robotic when it comes to communicating on camera, we want everything to be perfect.
• 9:45
Speaker 1: We want to have the perfect clothes, the perfect hair, the perfect makeup, and it's overwhelming, which is why a lot of times, people don't start, because they're so afraid of seeming Unprofessional, because when they've been in their place of employment, they've always been upon as being a leader or being head of the game in their space and entering into something new.
• 10:05
Speaker 1: You Look new and nobody nobody likes that feeling.
• 10:09
Speaker 2: First, it is still there too with me.
• 10:11
  Speaker 2: Right?
• 10:11
Speaker 2: I come from an industry where our job is literally to judge What somebody is doing on camera and figure out a way to make it better, make it look better, it may sound better.
• 10:19
Speaker 2: So, same as same as me, i got a really big case of Comparison.
• 10:25
Speaker 2: It is when I would get on camera thinking, oh my gosh, other producers, other directors, other camera people are gonna see my content And just rip it apart, because we all know better if we're gonna see.
• 10:34
Speaker 2: You know, i'm used to spending thousands of dollars on a Film or on a TV show or on a project and I'm not doing that for my videos, you know, unless if it's a video that's on social media, it just wouldn't be a great return on my investment.
• 10:47
Speaker 2: So I'm not going to have the best camera, the best audio or stuff like that.
• 10:52
Speaker 2: So I would constantly have that in the back of my head like, oh my gosh, i'm looking so unprofessional.
• 10:56
Speaker 2: But what helped me get over it was that across the board professionals and definitely is important.
• 11:01
Speaker 2: But authenticity always wins and it's what people relate to us the most, and that doesn't mean that you have to roll up in like Sweatpants and like your hair in a bun and you're like this is the real me, like we still can present, present ourselves in a very professional and professional looking way, while still being real.
• 11:20
Speaker 2: And part of that realness is when something happens.
• 11:23
Speaker 2: It's how we bounce back from it.
• 11:25
Speaker 2: When we misspeak how we, how would we do it in real life?
• 11:30
  Speaker 2: I tend to.
• 11:32
  Speaker 2: I'm a big fan of self-deffocating humor.
• 11:33
Speaker 2: It's the only humor I got, so I run with it.
• 11:35
Speaker 2: So I use that a lot in my video content and It makes people feel like I'm approachable and relatable, which is my brand.
• 11:44
Speaker 2: So it all depends on people's brands.
• 11:47
Speaker 2: But really just trying to be as real as possible, and I always have this running thing in the back of my head where I'm like, if somebody meets me in person from seeing my videos, if they meet me in person, will they be shocked at who I really am, or will they be like oh, you're exactly who I thought you were.
• 12:00
Speaker 2: And That's where the trust comes into, that whole no-liking trust.
• 12:04
Speaker 2: They they're like Oh, you are the real person.
• 12:08
Speaker 2: You're not just putting out a facade for us to sell us a product or sell us your service.
• 12:11
Speaker 2: You're the real person that I see on the videos and that makes me like you and trust you even more.
• 12:16
Speaker 1: Oh, i like that.
• 12:17
Speaker 1: I like that because you're right.
• 12:19
Speaker 1: I mean some of the most authentic video out there.
• 12:22
Speaker 1: It'll be someone completely laid back on a Saturday strolling through the park, and something like that Will resonate with so many people, just because it's relatable.
• 12:33
  Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah.
• 12:35
Speaker 1: So when we're thinking about video in marketing, can you talk a little bit about where you see Video fitting into a marketing strategy, especially for someone that may be working in the consulting space or any other type of expert service provider?
• 12:52
  Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely.
• 12:53
Speaker 2: So I think a lot of times It's tricky because if you go on social media right now and you look and you see people doing reels and all these different sort of trends, those aren't really what are gonna help service providers.
• 13:05
Speaker 2: It might help us get eyeballs, but is that gonna bring us dollars right?
• 13:09
Speaker 2: It's usually not, and so what I like to tell people is think about where your Ideal audience or your ideal clients like, where are they at in the starting point of where you work with them.
• 13:21
Speaker 2: So, for example, i use myself as you know, it's somebody.
• 13:24
Speaker 2: If I'm working with people who've never been on camera before when I create video content, i need to remember that and talk to them as if they've never been on camera before.
• 13:33
Speaker 2: I can't go into like the specifics of a whole lighting scheme and the setup.
• 13:36
Speaker 2: I would totally lose them.
• 13:38
Speaker 2: So sometimes what I like to do is think of, like, all right, your ideal client.
• 13:43
Speaker 2: If they were going to sign on to work with you, what would you say to them in the first call?
• 13:47
Speaker 2: What would you say to them in that first week of when you guys are working together and create content and videos around those sort of beginning conversations, just to sort of get the spark going in their brain to get them thinking of the answers to those questions, and that usually helps people get started with video.
• 14:04
Speaker 2: Because that's the other part too is I think that there was no video strategy in the very beginning, when video started becoming so popular, especially on Instagram and then TikTok and even Facebook, when video became so popular, nobody was talking about a strategy which is like got to do video, got to do video, what are the videos about?
• 14:24
Speaker 2: And that's the part that a lot of people struggle with, and so they end up just kind of like throwing spaghetti at the wall, seeing what sticks and hoping it goes viral, and that's not a strategy and that's not going to bring people clients.
• 14:36
Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, that definitely won't work.
• 14:39
Speaker 1: I think we've all been there and done that at this point in time.
• 14:42
Speaker 1: So if you were going to give a simple strategy for someone to follow, I know you said make the video, I guess what as a content similar to talking to your client.
• 14:52
Speaker 1: But is there some type of model or strategy or framework that you use or recommend that people use, at least when they're starting?
• 15:01
  Speaker 2: out.
• 15:01
Speaker 2: So I'm a big fan of going through past notes that you've had with a client or past intake of questions or forms or whatever you've done with them before, and looking for their struggles, looking for their questions and using that as sort of a guide to okay, what are they?
• 15:19
Speaker 2: my clients in general, my clients in general, i'll just say my clients often struggle with looking professional on camera.
• 15:25
Speaker 2: They don't have a ton of time to create content, but they don't feel confident in getting on camera and they don't feel confident in the tech involved with filming, the audio uploading, editing, all that.
• 15:35
Speaker 2: So those are sort of the things that my clients struggle with the most and I tend to create a lot of content around those.
• 15:41
Speaker 2: So really it sounds a little cliche, but it's the pain points that your audience has.
• 15:46
Speaker 2: And then I do pepper in some more advanced content for the people.
• 15:50
Speaker 2: that because you're often especially if we're working with people that we're going to work with through the longevity of their career we have people that are just beginning, and then we have people that have been with us a little while or they're growing and they're learning the stuff that I'm teaching them at a faster rate.
• 16:04
Speaker 2: I want to keep them engaged as well and be teaching them new things as well.
• 16:07
Speaker 2: So I really kind of pull a lot of my strategy and what I create content around from them, directly from them in the form of Q&A forms, and if you don't have those yet, it's the emails that people send you, it's the DMs, it's the comments on posts and content that you've created already maybe.
• 16:26
Speaker 2: And if you haven't created video content or even any other posts that you can pull from, then you're going to a competitor or you're going to somebody who you kind of have a similar business model to and you're seeing what is their audience asking for?
• 16:37
Speaker 2: Okay, well, can I answer those questions and would it be applicable to my audience?
• 16:42
Speaker 2: And that kind of gives you like a jumping off point.
• 16:45
Speaker 1: I love that, and you mentioned something when you were just discussing about saving time.
• 16:50
Speaker 1: I know you know we all have busy schedules, so how can we simplify this process?
• 16:55
Speaker 1: I'm telling you, whenever I make any type of video, it takes me forever.
• 17:00
Speaker 1: And let's just a short little reel or something that I'm piecing together just from your day like a vlog, that's pretty easy, but when it comes to creating video, it's a whole production.
• 17:10
Speaker 1: I know I don't have anything but, you know, a cell phone or maybe my laptop, but I swear I am taking them out of time that they spend to make a major movie production.
• 17:23
Speaker 2: Yeah, i've definitely been there, And I've been there too because I like doing it, so it's fun to me.
• 17:28
Speaker 2: I'm like what about this?
• 17:29
  Speaker 2: What about this?
• 17:29
Speaker 2: Not a great use of my time.
• 17:30
Speaker 2: What I really recommend is just like you do all your other content.
• 17:35
Speaker 2: Nobody wants to hear this, but it's going to be batching your content and batching it in stages, so like having a list of just ideas at the ready where they're one liners.
• 17:43
Speaker 2: It could just be a one liner and you have a list of one liners And that's all you have to remember to say to the camera, one line at a time.
• 17:50
Speaker 2: And then also filming.
• 17:52
Speaker 2: I try to film on one day a week.
• 17:54
Speaker 2: That means I set up my camera, i do my, i set up my audio, i literally have outfits set aside.
• 18:00
Speaker 2: And the reason I do outfits set aside is because that reminds me when I'm looking at my camera roll oh, that's another video.
• 18:05
Speaker 2: Because I try to always, visually, i want to be able to easily look at my video content in my camera roll and be like what's different?
• 18:12
Speaker 2: That's different, that's probably another video.
• 18:14
Speaker 2: So as much as you can plan ahead is really the big key.
• 18:17
Speaker 2: So you're setting what you're going to say ahead of time.
• 18:20
  Speaker 2: Set that aside.
• 18:21
Speaker 2: You're setting a day, one day a week, to film.
• 18:24
Speaker 2: set that aside immediately, and I cannot stress this enough.
• 18:28
Speaker 2: Organize all the things that you've filmed, because if you don't organize it, if you try, i try to organize it in the moment.
• 18:35
Speaker 2: But if you, if you're filming for like two hours and you don't organize it and put it into folders in your phone or whatever your storage, you know, whatever the way you're going to store your videos, then that means later, at some point, when you're editing them or posting them, you have to go back and rewatch every video, which is a total time suck.
• 18:51
Speaker 2: So you want to organize it in the moment, if you can, and plan for that.
• 18:55
Speaker 2: Make sure that you have time set aside to do that.
• 18:57
Speaker 2: And then I edit in batches too, so like they'll be one day a week where I'm just like editing, editing, editing, and that way when I go to post it, i have a folder in my phone that's like final videos and I then I can just post them up.
• 19:10
Speaker 2: So I do everything in stages.
• 19:11
Speaker 2: If you are not a stage in stage person, like if you're not a batch person, your only other option is to film in the moment, which does require, like on the fly, thinking, okay, i'm gonna film something.
• 19:22
Speaker 2: Right now I'm in the car.
• 19:24
Speaker 2: What am I gonna say?
• 19:24
Speaker 2: Like to me, that's.
• 19:26
Speaker 2: That's, that takes more time for me than if I just batched it all in in sort of pods.
• 19:32
Speaker 1: Yeah, i feel like whenever I do like a in-the-moment, on-the-fly type of video, i always watch it back and I'm just like Right, it becomes almost like a time-waster because I rarely use it.
• 19:46
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and the other thing that I do if you have a chunk of like something that you want to say, you have a video.
• 19:52
  Speaker 2: It's a talking head video.
• 19:53
Speaker 2: This is so nerdy, but it is such a game changer for me, because I don't use a teleprompter is I will, throughout the day, say it out loud.
• 20:01
Speaker 2: I'm getting ready in the morning, i'm pretending that I'm on camera And I'm just running through the bullet points or like running through how I would do it.
• 20:07
Speaker 2: I'm just doing a practice round.
• 20:09
  Speaker 2: That way.
• 20:10
Speaker 2: When I do get to filming, i already know the content.
• 20:12
Speaker 2: I feel really comfortable with it.
• 20:14
Speaker 2: You know some lines may change, but I always pretty much I bullet point of what I'm gonna say on camera ahead of time And then I practice throughout the day and then when it comes time to film, i'm so much faster with it awesome.
• 20:26
Speaker 1: So Let me ask you What has been the most rewarding aspect of your business journey?
• 20:32
Speaker 1: Like, what have you really found to be that?
• 20:35
Speaker 1: Why, in terms of what's keeping you moving forward?
• 20:39
Speaker 1: outside of, of course, you know your personal reasons, but just within the business, like what, what do you?
• 20:43
Speaker 2: love, oh My god, hands down.
• 20:45
Speaker 2: Seeing people love to be on camera.
• 20:47
Speaker 2: Who, the people that like swore they'd never get on camera, hated video, wanted to hide behind their captions or like pretty pretty pictures, and Seeing them on camera confident, that is to me hands down, because I really do believe I come from unscripted television, aka reality.
• 21:02
Speaker 2: So Everybody who wanted to be on camera and I really do believe that if people want to use video as a tool for their business, they they should be able to, and if you want to be on camera, there's a place for you to be on camera, and I really love just taking people from the like.
• 21:17
Speaker 2: There's no way I'm getting on camera to the point where they're like, actually really like this.
• 21:21
  Speaker 1: Right.
• 21:21
Speaker 1: No, this may be a spicy take, but I feel like a lot of experts get frustrated because they see a number of people in their space and they're doing well and our businesses are taking off and, in my opinion, a lot of it's because they're a little bit more open to Taking chances and being on video and all of those things, whereas Most often now, when you're coming from a corporate environment especially, you may be a little bit more reserved in terms of how you carry yourself In a business environment and less likely to take those chances, and I feel like it holds you back over time.
• 21:55
Speaker 1: What type of mindset work do you recommend doing or do you have people do to get comfortable with the aspect So they can begin to compete a little?
• 22:05
Speaker 1: bit more Yeah well.
• 22:06
Speaker 2: So usually I just ask this question I'm like, what is something that you used to hate doing?
• 22:10
Speaker 2: and you suck, dad.
• 22:12
Speaker 2: I'm just being honest, and you love doing now, and almost always they can think of something, and there's whether it's personal, whether it's professional, and I'm like, okay, well, let's, let's put that on for your video content.
• 22:24
Speaker 2: And If I were to ask you, like, do you regret doing that thing that you hated to do back then But you're able to do now with ease, you know, do you regret not starting sooner?
• 22:35
Speaker 2: and the answer is almost always Yeah.
• 22:36
Speaker 2: They wish they would have done it sooner, because it's easier, or they have fun with it, or they've gotten so much better at it now that they've done it.
• 22:43
Speaker 2: So I try to just bring something that's not video related as a memory of, like, what have you done that you never thought you could do, that you're able to do right?
• 22:52
Speaker 2: Okay, well, let's apply that to video, because that's really the thing is.
• 22:54
Speaker 2: And I'm I'm kind of living proof, because there used to be this running joke On set whenever I was on a set of a TV show was I wouldn't even walk near the camera.
• 23:03
Speaker 2: I would always be like are we rolling?
• 23:04
  Speaker 2: Are we rolling?
• 23:05
Speaker 2: I wouldn't say anything around the camera because I knew it was recording and I was like editors, i'll hear this.
• 23:09
Speaker 2: Not that I was even saying anything that was like inappropriate, i just hated my voice being heard or like recorded.
• 23:15
Speaker 2: I didn't want to be on camera.
• 23:16
Speaker 2: So I'm kind of like living proof in the sense of somebody who really didn't want to be on camera and Now really enjoys it, and so I try to tell them that story too, because, like people don't believe that, but my TV producer, friends, all the time they all are like I can't believe you do what you do now.
• 23:33
Speaker 1: That is so helpful because really there's so much that we have done in the past and it was scary when we started, But we kept going and now you don't think about it you know, Yeah, I can imagine how being on video becomes that way.
• 23:47
Speaker 2: I'm still not quite there yet, but You're so there and like some of your videos, i'm just like whoa She hired a professional for these because they look so good.
• 23:56
Speaker 1: No, you know I always joke around like I like the editing piece because I feel like it's just very soothing for me Edit video or audio, but being actually on the camera, i think one of the biggest challenges I had was hearing myself speak and then also just seeing your yourself.
• 24:15
Speaker 1: I was like actually listening to someone very recently and they have a technique that they were recommending and you made me familiar with it, but it pretty much had you record a video and then look at yourself with the volume already all the way off, also Listen to it without looking at yourself.
• 24:31
Speaker 1: I think that's how it is, yeah, and pretty much to get you used to your mannerisms, your, your pace of speech, how you sound, all of those things, so that you can become more aware of your pauses or maybe your filler words and the different gestures you use, like I like to use my hands.
• 24:50
Speaker 1: But I think is that video really allows all of that to kind of stand out and it is a shock at first, but I do think that after you comfortable with seeing it and recognize that it's just you, it's a little bit easier to do and then to me, i just had to get to a point where I didn't care anymore.
• 25:10
Speaker 1: I mean, what is that weird to?
• 25:11
  Speaker 2: say No, it's.
• 25:13
  Speaker 2: I mean there's.
• 25:14
Speaker 2: There's a thing It's like You said it earlier and you talked about, like you know, knowing that our competitors are probably gonna use video, and is as much as I wish This wasn't true, but I do believe it to be true and data proves It's true.
• 25:25
Speaker 2: We trust people more, the people that are willing to put themselves out there and get on camera, because It shows that they really believe in what they're doing, versus somebody who's still kind of like hiding a little bit behind.
• 25:38
Speaker 2: You know, captions or something like that.
• 25:41
Speaker 2: The other thing that I will say is You were talking about I love the idea of turning off the audio, turning off the video and watching.
• 25:47
Speaker 2: There's also science behind The study that was done that what we hear is our voice is not actually the way other people hear it.
• 25:55
Speaker 2: We hear it differently than the way it sounds, and the same way we see ourselves, the same way that our eye develops, like what we see in a mirror is different from what the rest of the world sees, and so I think about that often, because I have a really high-pitched, squeaky voice.
• 26:09
Speaker 2: I've never liked it, but when I learned that I was like, oh all right, maybe you guys don't hear what I hear, because maybe you guys hear something better.
• 26:16
Speaker 1: Yeah, no, you don't have a high-pitched, squeaky voice at all.
• 26:19
Speaker 1: I can see that, though, because when you're training yourself, i talk really, really fast, and sometimes my words run all together and I try to slow myself down, and so then I feel like I have pauses that you can hear, and All that is like mental.
• 26:36
Speaker 1: I feel like because you're so aware, so you're changing a little bit how you communicate, because you're trying Not to do these things or to do some of the things that people recommend that you do in order to communicate more effectively.
• 26:48
Speaker 1: So, yeah, i can see how I can see how we can hear ourselves differently.
• 26:54
Speaker 1: One of the things that you mentioned that I thought was really interesting is The fact that, when you are bold in about being on camera, oftentimes that can allow your business to grow a lot faster, and I feel like, especially in the consulting space, where you have a lot of hypermasculine energy and really a lot of competitiveness and drive, many times, if you don't use that opportunity to put yourself out there, you can quickly fall behind a lot faster than you would think, and I Have often witnessed a lot of women in consulting not necessarily get the same I would say Limelight, because they have not been as willing to put themselves out there on camera myself included Camera or on podcast, and you know other ways to make ourselves more visible because We may be a little bit more self-conscious.
• 27:48
Speaker 1: I feel like, because of the way society has structured our roles in business and in our, our families, etc.
• 27:56
Speaker 1: That more people tend not to be more visible.
• 27:59
Speaker 1: So I don't know, did you ever find a point where You became more comfortable taking those risks and putting yourself out there more often, even beyond the video?
• 28:11
Speaker 1: so I know you got comfortable with video, but just even other opportunities that you were able to go after.
• 28:17
  Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely.
• 28:18
Speaker 2: I think it was when I realized like if I'm gonna go all in on this, i got to go all in.
• 28:23
Speaker 2: And that means I come from a male-dominated industry TV is highly male-dominated And I realized like if I'm gonna go in, all in, i have to go on, and that means speaking up and making sure my voice is heard on Stages in person in a room full of people who are like you do what?
• 28:40
Speaker 2: like I just realized that if I want to do this, if I want to make this my business and I don't want to have to fall back on Working on shows the way that I was before, working long hours I just need to do everything that I can to make sure that you know my voice is heard and you know my business is Is more well known.
• 28:56
Speaker 2: And that was sort of my impetus was like How am I going to grow this business at a fast enough rate that if I want to do a TV show and go back to TV, i can, but I'll have to.
• 29:07
Speaker 2: And that was really the thing.
• 29:09
Speaker 2: It was just making sure that People knew about me and knew what I was doing and I was willing to talk to anybody about it And it.
• 29:16
Speaker 2: It is not in my nature to do that at all.
• 29:18
Speaker 2: I actually never wanted to be a business owner.
• 29:20
Speaker 2: I love directing, i love producing, i love working with people.
• 29:23
Speaker 2: I just wanted more freedom and how I was gonna do it, and that forced me to become a business owner and that forced me to Have to do that.
• 29:30
Speaker 2: But I was willing to do it because it was.
• 29:32
Speaker 2: It was like alright, well, i get to create my own path and my own sort of Obviously, my own income and my own schedule, but in exchange for getting that, i have to do the work by being really vocal about it, and so that was what pushed me, just being honest.
• 29:48
Speaker 1: I think it's just this willingness to put yourself out there and to go all out in terms of that boldness to show up that really can make the difference.
• 29:58
Speaker 1: Whether it's your career or even in business, people have to see us and know us.
• 30:03
Speaker 1: One thing I talk to clients about all the time is the fact that no one can buy from you if they have no idea that you exist.
• 30:09
Speaker 1: You can have the perfect offer.
• 30:12
Speaker 1: It's not your offer, it's not you, it's not your expertise, it's not any of that.
• 30:17
Speaker 1: It's just the fact that they don't know you're there.
• 30:20
Speaker 2: Yeah, and I do believe that success favors the bold, the people that are willing to speak up and put themselves out there.
• 30:28
  Speaker 1: I know, i know.
• 30:29
Speaker 1: So I would love for you to share a little bit more about your business, because this is not all you do.
• 30:35
Speaker 1: We talked a lot about being on camera, because I do think that that's a huge struggle that many of us have.
• 30:41
Speaker 1: But, yeah, i would love to hear more about your business, your offers and anything else you want to share.
• 30:48
Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, thank you.
• 30:49
Speaker 2: Yeah, so I work with creative entrepreneurs, small businesses, in a different capacity than most people.
• 30:57
Speaker 2: I think they're either video strategists or they're business coaches.
• 31:00
Speaker 2: I'm a hybrid because I took all of the skills that I had from working in TV, which is a lot of time management, a lot of productivity, because we're always on schedules, always on deadlines, plus video, and I work with them to help them in two different areas of their business.
• 31:13
Speaker 2: So I help people that have maybe they want to start a course, they want to create a course.
• 31:17
Speaker 2: I help them map out a timeline so they can take it from idea to completion at the very end.
• 31:22
Speaker 2: And I help them from everything from deciding what each module is going to be to what are the script We're going to script out each video and then helping them obviously with the video portion of it, and I also do.
• 31:33
Speaker 2: I have a master class called create better video content where I teach people how to literally create better video content And we cover everything from camera competence to the internal mindset stuff to also presentation on camera, how to feel really confident and look confident on camera, and the tech stuff the camera lighting, editing and all that.
• 31:51
Speaker 2: And then I also do something different that most people don't know about and I don't share, but I work with YouTubers helping them create content behind the scenes.
• 32:00
Speaker 2: I'm not in front of the camera at all with them.
• 32:01
Speaker 2: I'm really helping them map out their shows.
• 32:04
Speaker 2: There's a ton of YouTubers that have series on YouTube and I help them basically create TV shows for YouTube And that's something that actually creates.
• 32:14
Speaker 2: That takes up a big bulk of my work.
• 32:16
Speaker 2: It's something I never talk about because it's only very specific with YouTubers, and then sometimes everyone's like I will take a TV show if it's a short, short, short, short gig.
• 32:25
Speaker 2: Ideally if it's here in Hawaii, i won't really travel that much anymore.
• 32:29
Speaker 1: Right, because why would you ever leave Hawaii?
• 32:31
  Speaker 1: I don't want to leave.
• 32:32
Speaker 1: I was like, why would you ever leave that?
• 32:34
Speaker 1: No, i love that about YouTube.
• 32:36
Speaker 1: I've actually been tossing around this whole idea of starting.
• 32:40
Speaker 1: I actually have a YouTube course that I have been taking, as well as the fact that I've played around here and there.
• 32:48
Speaker 1: You know the thing with YouTube and I'm taking this in a whole other direction.
• 32:52
Speaker 1: but the thing about YouTube is that I feel like it's so overwhelming.
• 32:57
Speaker 1: I mean, people have massive productions when it comes to YouTube, it's not like.
• 33:01
Speaker 1: Instagram or even LinkedIn.
• 33:02
Speaker 1: I mean, it is real.
• 33:05
Speaker 1: So I think there's a certain intimidation factor that's there for many people.
• 33:10
Speaker 1: I know I can speak for myself.
• 33:11
Speaker 1: So can you share a little bit more about the YouTube world?
• 33:15
Speaker 1: I know that's not what you normally talk about as much, but I do think a lot of people are super interested because we're getting to this point where it was nice to have the short soundbites, the 15-second stories and the 90-second reels, but you can't go into a lot of depth that way, and when it comes to trying to share complex information or maybe even have videos that you can use for your business, to land corporate contracts and things of that nature, you want to have a YouTube channel or something else available for them to view.
• 33:47
Speaker 2: Yeah, i mean, i love what you said.
• 33:48
Speaker 2: It is very intimidating.
• 33:50
Speaker 2: It was intimidating to me because I come from the world of the high-end TV production value and I work with YouTubers that are doing that, so there is that level of intimidation.
• 34:02
Speaker 2: But what you said, it doesn't matter.
• 34:06
Speaker 2: Even if you have it hidden where it's not visible for everybody, it's still going to be a great resource for your audience, for your clients.
• 34:12
Speaker 2: But it can also be because it's YouTube, it is a search engine, and that's what I love about it.
• 34:17
Speaker 2: Absolutely hands down the most is that there is a science to YouTube in the sense of people.
• 34:24
Speaker 2: You create content based on what people are searching for and if there's a crossover between what they're searching for and what your niche is, you create content around that and you're going to do better than if you're just randomly creating content.
• 34:35
Speaker 2: So there is a science behind it, which I love because I love data.
• 34:37
Speaker 2: But also for the people that are intimidated on starting a YouTube channel, i would say just what I say with everything else is just get started and don't let yourself feed into the overwhelm, because if you go back to every single channel and you go back to their first few videos.
• 34:54
  Speaker 2: They're all.
• 34:55
  Speaker 2: They're not perfect.
• 34:57
Speaker 2: Let's just say that I have a client right now, that they have 4 million subscribers.
• 35:03
Speaker 2: When I go back to their first videos, i was like that's what I like to see.
• 35:07
Speaker 2: You started from here and now you're here.
• 35:12
Speaker 2: So there is this internal overwhelm and this internal pressure that we put on ourselves because it's YouTube, because people are doing such high production value, but that's usually not our audience.
• 35:21
Speaker 2: If we're consultants, if we're service providers, our audience isn't watching to be entertained in that same way as some of these people that are spending a ton of money on production.
• 35:32
Speaker 2: Our audience is coming to learn something, to find out about something, and really the most important thing is what you're saying and your message.
• 35:39
Speaker 2: It could be as simple as a talking head video.
• 35:42
Speaker 2: That could be very well put on Instagram.
• 35:46
Speaker 2: It could have been a live video.
• 35:47
Speaker 2: It could be anything.
• 35:48
Speaker 2: It's really the information that we're saying.
• 35:50
Speaker 2: It doesn't have to be such high value or high production value, but my advice to anybody and you included, because I know you've been dipping your toe in YouTube is just to get started and building.
• 36:02
Speaker 2: The good thing about YouTube is you can just post shorts and you'll gain followers by doing that and that'll slowly build up your confidence.
• 36:09
Speaker 2: We all get bummed when we post a video and nobody likes it, or two people like it, because YouTube currently is still promoting shorts.
• 36:17
Speaker 2: What I've been doing is I just post my shorts over there and that's building up my subscriber rate, which, whether it means anything or not, it's still psychological in your head and you're like, okay, okay, people are picking up what I'm putting down.
• 36:29
Speaker 2: I'm going to continue on this path But, hands down, i just think of it as a great resource for our individual people.
• 36:36
Speaker 2: You know, and try not to worry about all the masses of other people that are making content.
• 36:41
Speaker 1: Yeah, because it's so true.
• 36:42
Speaker 1: One of the things that I know I do and I always tell clients that other people are doing as well the minute I'm thinking about investing in a program, I'm searching for any video content that I can find, any blogs I can read, And you know, the great thing about YouTube, as you mentioned, is the fact that the content doesn't go away.
• 37:02
Speaker 1: So, you know, a year or two later, you're still finding these videos that are extremely helpful, which I would say.
• 37:08
Speaker 1: If you don't have a lot of time to spend making videos every day, maybe it's more beneficial for you to make a longer form video that's going to last and really be able to help in terms of SEO to drive traffic to your business.
• 37:23
Speaker 1: So I think that that's another approach that many times, people overlook because they can't even get on the video for a picture.
• 37:30
Speaker 1: We don't even mention that.
• 37:33
Speaker 1: It's just like out the question.
• 37:35
Speaker 1: But, yeah, I think that that's such a wonderful tool in a new way.
• 37:39
Speaker 1: You know of doing it.
• 37:41
  Speaker 1: I'm a big fan.
• 37:42
Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, I wanted to end with just you sharing anything that you like.
• 37:48
Speaker 1: I don't know if you have any upcoming programs.
• 37:50
Speaker 1: I know you mentioned your course, but I don't know if you have anything else you want to share or anything that you want to tell the audience.
• 37:58
  Speaker 2: Oh, thank you.
• 37:59
  Speaker 2: So I did.
• 38:00
Speaker 2: I just launched something super, super short and sweet.
• 38:03
Speaker 2: It's on my Instagram only is the only place you can find it.
• 38:05
Speaker 2: I'm doing video audits.
• 38:07
Speaker 2: It dawned on me that people a lot of times just want to know like are my videos any good and what's some like quick tips that I could do to boost them and make them look more professional?
• 38:16
Speaker 2: Or you know how can I come across a camera a little bit more confident?
• 38:20
Speaker 2: And so I'm doing these quick little video audits where I go through some of your past videos and I give you like a 10 minute run down of how you can improve on your video content.
• 38:28
Speaker 2: And that's in my Instagram bio, is the little part.
• 38:31
  Speaker 2: I love it.
• 38:31
  Speaker 1: Yes, yes.
• 38:32
Speaker 1: So everyone listening you have to go on Instagram.
• 38:35
Speaker 1: It's going to be in the description So you can go and log on and get your audit, because I'm telling you, it helps a lot when someone can tell you what you can improve on in love.
• 38:47
Speaker 1: So I know that hopefully, people will be definitely taking advantage of that.
• 38:53
Speaker 1: Well, i am so excited We got a chance to have this chat.
• 38:56
Speaker 1: Thank you so much for tuning in and, you know, kind of joining me today from your beautiful Hawaii, which I wish I could be.

Speaker 1: Just seeing it all, i'm like, oh, that's the life, all right.
