- 0:05Welcome to Voices of Life, a ministry of the
- 0:08Church for Life, and I'm your host, Pastor David.
- 0:11Today we begin week 10 of our 12 -week journey,
- 0:14Living with Purpose, a God -Centered Life. And
- 0:18this week, we're stepping into a theme that touches
- 0:21every day of your life, your work, your service,
- 0:25and your calling. Because purpose is not just
- 0:29found in the church, purpose is found in the
- 0:32way you work. It is the way you serve, the way
- 0:36you show up in the world. Whether you're in a
- 0:40career, a ministry, a caregiving role, a volunteer
- 0:44position, or simply doing the unseen work of
- 0:47daily life, your work matters to God. Let's go
- 0:54back to the beginning, before sin, before brokenness,
- 0:59before the fall. god placed adam in the garden
- 1:05and gave him work genesis 2 15 says the lord
- 1:12god took the man and put him in the garden of
- 1:15eden to work it and to take care of it work was
- 1:21not punishment work was purpose work was partnership
- 1:25and work was sacred god designed work as a way
- 1:30to reflect his image to steward creation to bring
- 1:34order and to cultivate beauty work is not just
- 1:39a job work is worship there is a difference between
- 1:45striving and serving striving is driven by pressure
- 1:50serving is driven by purpose when we strive we
- 1:57say i have to prove myself Serving says, I'm
- 2:04here to bless others. Striving says, it's all
- 2:10up to me. Serving says, God is working through
- 2:15me. Striving leads to burnout, where serving
- 2:21leads to joy. God did not call you to strive
- 2:25endlessly. God called you to serve faithfully.
- 2:31Let's anchor ourselves in the Word of God. Colossians
- 2:353 .23 says, Whatever you do, work at it with
- 2:42your heart, as you're working for the Lord, not
- 2:47for human masters. This verse transforms everything.
- 2:52It means your work is not just for a paycheck,
- 2:56not just for recognition, and not just for survival.
- 3:00Your work is the Lord. Your service is for the
- 3:05Lord. Your effort, your excellence, your integrity,
- 3:10all of it is worship. You don't have to be a
- 3:17full -time ministry to live with purpose. You
- 3:21don't have to be on stage to serve God. You don't
- 3:26have to be in a leadership position to make an
- 3:28impact. Folding laundry can be worship. Driving
- 3:35to work can be worship. Caring for children can
- 3:39be worship. Answering emails can be worship.
- 3:44When your heart is surrendered to God, your work
- 3:47becomes holy. Take a moment and breathe deeply.
- 3:53Now ask yourself, what do I bring to the world?
- 4:01What do I offer through my work? What do I carry
- 4:07into every space I enter? Is it peace? Is it
- 4:15excellence? Am I showing compassion, creativity?
- 4:20Is it strength? Now ask the Holy Spirit, Lord,
- 4:27how do you want... to use my work for your glory?
- 4:33Let that question settle into your spirit. Let
- 4:41us pray. Father, thank you for the gift of work
- 4:46and service. Thank you for calling us to reflect
- 4:49your image through our labor. Teach us to work
- 4:54with excellence. Teach us to serve with joy.
- 4:58Teach us to live with purpose in every task.
- 5:03Help us see our daily responsibilities as sacred
- 5:07opportunities to honor you. May our work be worship.
- 5:11May our service be witness. May our lives bring
- 5:16glory to your name. In Jesus' name, amen. Now
- 5:25let's go deeper. We'll talk about the heart behind
- 5:30the work, the motives, the attitudes, and the
- 5:33spiritual disciplines that shape how we serve.
- 5:37God is refining your purpose through your work.
- 5:46We're going inward. We're going to talk about
- 5:49the heart behind the work. Because purpose is
- 5:53not just about what you do. Purpose is about
- 5:55why you do it. how you do it, and who you're
- 6:00doing it for. Your work is shaped by your heart.
- 6:07Two people can do the very same task, but with
- 6:12completely different spirits. One works with
- 6:16joy. The other works with resentment. One works
- 6:21with peace. One works with pressure. One works
- 6:27with purpose, and one works with exhaustion.
- 6:33The difference is not, well, the difference is
- 6:38the heart. God cares about your heart and your
- 6:40work. So it's not about you, it's about God.
- 6:46It's not about your employer, it's about God.
- 6:50It's not about the other person, it's about God.
- 6:54Many believers fall into a trap. A subtle trap,
- 6:59a spiritual trap. The trap of performance -based
- 7:03identity. The belief that says, I am what I produce.
- 7:10I am what I accomplish. I am what I achieve.
- 7:13I am only valuable when I'm useful. But hear
- 7:21me. Your worth is not in your work. Your identity
- 7:28is not in your output. Your value is not in your
- 7:33productivity. Your identity is in Christ. Your
- 7:38worth is in his love, and your value is who he
- 7:43created you to be. Work is what you do. It is
- 7:48not who you are. Some of you are carrying a heavy
- 7:54weight. The weight of expectations. Expectations
- 8:00from others, from yourself, from your culture,
- 8:04from your past. You feel like you have to prove
- 8:10something. You feel like you have to earn approval.
- 8:15You have to keep it up. But God never asked you
- 8:19to carry that weight. Jesus said, my yoke is
- 8:25easy and my burden is light. If the work you're
- 8:30doing is crushing you, it's not God's burden.
- 8:35It's someone else's. Let us anchor ourselves
- 8:40in the word of God. Philippians 2, 3 -7 says,
- 8:49do nothing. out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.
- 8:58Think about that. Do nothing out of selfish ambition
- 9:01or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, value others
- 9:10above yourselves. Have the same mindset as Jesus
- 9:16Christ. Took the very nature of a servant That
- 9:26is what he did This passage is not about weakness.
- 9:30It is about strength strength and humility and
- 9:33purpose Jesus served not because he had to but
- 9:37because love compelled him to that is The heart
- 9:44behind true service Serving God is not meant
- 9:49to be a burden. Serving God is meant to be a
- 9:51joy. Joy that comes from knowing your work has
- 9:57eternal meaning. Joy that comes from knowing
- 10:01your service touches lives. Knowing that your
- 10:04effort is seen by God, even when it is unseen
- 10:09by people. Joy is not the absence of effort.
- 10:12Joy is the presence of a purpose. Your purpose.
- 10:20There will be seasons when work feels heavy.
- 10:25When the responsibilities pile up. When the deadlines
- 10:28press in. When the expectations feel overwhelming.
- 10:35And in those moments you may feel tired. You
- 10:39may feel stretched. You may feel empty. But hear
- 10:43this. God does not ask you to pour out from an
- 10:47empty cup. He invites you to rest, to breathe,
- 10:50to slow down, to reconnect with him. Rest is
- 10:57not laziness. Rest is obedience. Place your hands
- 11:04in your lap, palms up. Take a slow breath in,
- 11:09exhale gently. Now imagine the pressure you've
- 11:16been carrying. The pressure to succeed, to impress.
- 11:21The pressure to be perfect. The pressure to keep
- 11:24up. The pressure to do more. Now imagine placing
- 11:31that pressure into God's hands. Say quietly,
- 11:38Lord, I release the pressure to perform. I choose
- 11:43to serve with joy. Let your shoulders relax.
- 11:48Let your spirit breathe. Let your heart rest.
- 11:54Let us pray. Father, thank you for seeing our
- 11:59hearts even more than our work. Thank you for
- 12:03loving us, not for what we do, but for who we
- 12:07are. Heal the places where pressure has overwhelmed
- 12:11us. Heal the places where performance has defined
- 12:15us. Heal the places where expectations have weighed
- 12:21us down. Teach us to work with humility. Teach
- 12:27us to serve with joy. Teach us to live with purpose.
- 12:35to flows from your presence, flows, keeps it
- 12:42going, keeps us going, keeps everything going.
- 12:46In Jesus' name, amen. So now we're going to talk
- 12:56about how your work becomes worship and how your
- 13:03service becomes witness. Because purpose is not
- 13:07just something you understand. Purpose is something
- 13:09you live. You have to embody it. Something you
- 13:12carry into every environment you enter. Worship
- 13:18is not just singing. Worship is not just praying.
- 13:23Worship is not just gathering together on a Sunday
- 13:27and even listening to this podcast. Worship is
- 13:32the posture of your heart. toward God. And when
- 13:37your heart is surrounded to Him, your work becomes
- 13:41worship. Folding laundry can become worship.
- 13:46Driving a truck can become worship. Teaching
- 13:51a class can be worship. Leading a team can be
- 13:55worship. Serving customers can be worship. is
- 14:03not a task. Worship is the heart behind the task.
- 14:07Your service is a testimony. People may not read
- 14:12scripture, but they read your life. People may
- 14:17not listen to sermons, but they listen to your
- 14:21attitude. People may not understand theology,
- 14:25but they understand kindness. Your service preaches.
- 14:31Your integrity preaches. Your compassion preaches.
- 14:37Your excellence preaches. You are a living witness
- 14:42of God and how you serve him. Some of the most
- 14:50powerful work you will ever do will never be
- 14:54seen. The prayers you pray when no one is listening.
- 15:00The sacrifices you make when no one is watching.
- 15:04The kindness you show when no one applauds. The
- 15:08faithfulness you give when no one acknowledges
- 15:13it. Heaven sees what people overlook. God honors
- 15:19what people ignore. The unseen places are often
- 15:25the holiest places. Let's anchor ourselves in
- 15:33the word of God. Matthew 5, 16 says, Let the
- 15:40light shine before others, that they may see
- 15:43your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
- 15:48Your work is light. Your service is light. Your
- 15:52kindness is light. Your excellence is light.
- 15:55And when people see that light, they see God.
- 16:02You don't need a pulpit to preach the gospel.
- 16:06You preach in the way you speak, the way you
- 16:11respond, the way you treat people. You preach
- 16:15in the way you handle your stress. You preach
- 16:19in the way you carry yourself when things get
- 16:22difficult. You are Christ's representative in
- 16:26your workplace, in your home, your community,
- 16:29in your service. You may be the only glimpse
- 16:33of Jesus someone sees today Excellence does not
- 16:40mean perfection excellence is doing your best
- 16:43with what God has given you Excellence is honoring
- 16:48God with your effort Excellence is showing up
- 16:53with integrity with diligence with consistency
- 16:56Excellence is worship Excellence is witness.
- 17:03And excellence is purpose in motion. Close your
- 17:10eyes for a moment. Think about the people you
- 17:13will encounter today. A co -worker, a customer,
- 17:17a student, a neighbor, a family member, maybe
- 17:21a stranger. Now ask yourself, who will see Christ
- 17:26in me today? Not through perfection, but through
- 17:31kindness, through patience, humility, excellence,
- 17:35and compassion. Now whisper, Lord, shine through
- 17:42me. Let that prayer settle into your spirit.
- 17:48Think about it. Lord, shine through me. Let that
- 17:52prayer settle into your spirit. Let us pray.
- 18:00Father, thank you for calling us to be your witnesses
- 18:04in every place we work and in every place we
- 18:08serve. Teach us to work with excellence. Teach
- 18:12us to serve with compassion. Teach us to live
- 18:16with purpose that reflects your heart. May our
- 18:20work be worship. May our service be witnesses.
- 18:24May our lives shine your light. In Jesus' name,
- 18:30amen. As we look at our final segment today,
- 18:43let's talk about living a lifestyle of purpose,
- 18:50of purposeful, not purpose, I'm sorry, purposeful
- 18:54work and service. Not just in certain seasons,
- 18:58not just when you feel inspired, and not just
- 19:02when life is easy, but daily, faithfully, joyfully,
- 19:05spiritually. Because purpose is not an event,
- 19:09purpose is a rhythm. Purpose is not something
- 19:14you visit. Purpose is something you live. You
- 19:19carry it with you into every room, every task,
- 19:22every conversation, every assignment. It is not
- 19:26limited to your job title. Purpose is not limited
- 19:31to your ministry role. Purpose is not limited
- 19:35to a season of your life. Purpose is who you
- 19:41are in Christ. And when you understand your work
- 19:45and your service, it becomes expressions of your
- 19:53identity. Your calling does have seasons There
- 20:00are seasons of building learning serving leading
- 20:05resting seasons of transition and Each season
- 20:11is holy Some seasons feel productive some seasons
- 20:16feel hidden some seasons feel confusing Some
- 20:22seasons feel stretching But every season is shaping
- 20:26you for the next assignment. God has prepared
- 20:30your calling is not a straight line. Your calling
- 20:36is a journey. We always say a journey of life.
- 20:42Jesus said, whoever is faithful with little will
- 20:49be faithful with much. Think about that. Whoever
- 20:54is faithful with little will be faithful with
- 20:58much. Faithfulness is not measured on the size
- 21:02of the task. Faithfulness is measured by the
- 21:06posture of your heart. God promotes faithfulness.
- 21:10He honors faithfulness. He rewards faithfulness.
- 21:14You don't need a bigger platform to live with
- 21:18purpose. You need a faithful heart. Let us anchor
- 21:24ourselves in the Word of God. 2 Timothy 4, 7
- 21:32says, I have fought the good fight. I have finished
- 21:39the race. I have kept the faith. This is the
- 21:46testimony of a life lived with purpose, not a
- 21:51life without struggle. a life not a life without
- 21:55obstacles and not a life without hardships but
- 21:58a life with faithfulness a life with obedience
- 22:01and service a life that honored god to the very
- 22:06end there will be moments when god shifts your
- 22:11assignment moments when he closes one door and
- 22:15opens another moments when he calls you to step
- 22:19out of the familiar and into the unknown. And
- 22:24in those moments, your service is not over. Your
- 22:27purpose is not paused and your calling is not
- 22:30canceled. It's simply being redirected. God is
- 22:34not just the God of beginnings. He is the God
- 22:38of transition. Your work leaves a legacy. Your
- 22:44service leaves that legacy. And your faithfulness
- 22:49leaves the legacy. People may forget your job
- 22:52title but they will remember your kindness. People
- 22:58may forget your accomplishments but they will
- 23:01remember your integrity. People may forget your
- 23:05tasks but they will remember your heart. Legacy
- 23:11is not what you build with your hands. Legacy
- 23:14is what you build with your life. Place your
- 23:21hands over your heart. Take a slow breath in
- 23:25and exhale very gently. Now imagine your work,
- 23:29your responsibilities, your service, your daily
- 23:32tasks. Imagine placing them in God's hands. Now
- 23:38whisper, Lord, my work is my offering. My service
- 23:46is my worship. My life is yours. Let that truth
- 23:52settle deeply into your spirit. Let us pray.
- 24:01Father, thank you for calling us to live with
- 24:05purpose in our work and in our service. Thank
- 24:09you for shaping us through every season, every
- 24:12assignment, every responsibility. Teach us to
- 24:17work with excellence. Teach us to serve with
- 24:20humility. Teach us to live with faithfulness.
- 24:27May our work be worship. May our service be witness.
- 24:32May our lives bring glory to your name. In Jesus'
- 24:37name, amen. This concludes week 10 of our 12
- 24:44-week journey. Living for purpose, a God -centered
- 24:47life. You have taken a powerful step this week,
- 24:50a step towards seeing your work as sacred, a
- 24:55step towards serving others with joy, a step
- 24:59toward living with deeper purpose in every part
- 25:04of your life. Thank you for joining me today
- 25:07on Voices of Life, a ministry of the Church for
- 25:11Life. I'm Pastor David. And we'll see you in
