- 3:36Speaker 1: of my incarcerated fellow brothers in the building. On tonight,
- 3:43Speaker 1: We're gonna allow them to come on in the room
- 3:47Speaker 1: and introduce themselves and tell you guys a little bit
- 3:51Speaker 1: about them. He has someone there with him. That's actually
- 3:56Speaker 1: we're gonna be talking about the importance of books and
- 4:01Speaker 1: how books play an important role in the lives of
- 4:05Speaker 1: those that are incarcerated. So let them bring my guests
- 4:09Speaker 1: up and allow my guests to share a little bit. Y'all.
- 4:13Speaker 1: May hear some echoing because y'all know again we're dealing
- 4:17Speaker 1: with the prison system and we know what all can
- 4:20Speaker 1: go on when dealing with the prison system. So hey, welcome, welcome, welcome, sir.
- 4:26Speaker 1: How are you tonight?
- 4:28Speaker 2: Okay, ma'am, I'm doing great man. My name is Cornell
- 4:31Speaker 2: Drama and I'm helm to me yas Junith ma'am, and
- 4:34Speaker 2: I'm incarcerated, and take take the time of coming to judginess, ma'am,
- 4:38Speaker 2: and thank you for having me on tonight. And uh
- 4:41Speaker 2: he is the second guest right them to do something
- 4:43Speaker 2: so I love. My name is Joseph, you know, I
- 4:47Speaker 2: go by the name of flim On with my brother drummer,
- 4:52Speaker 2: and thank you for having me on the show for
- 4:55Speaker 2: the opportunity to share my story.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Thank you well tonight, I really want to tap in
- 5:02Speaker 1: on the importance of books and books in the lives
- 5:07Speaker 1: of those that are incarcerated, whether it's them writing books
- 5:11Speaker 1: or them having books in their lives, and the importance
- 5:16Speaker 1: of books and how it has played in your life.
- 5:20Speaker 1: So if you would share with those we we know
- 5:25Speaker 1: a little bit about Cornell, because of course Cornell's been
- 5:27Speaker 1: on the show several times, if you would give us
- 5:31Speaker 1: a little backstory of who you are, and then if
- 5:36Speaker 1: you would go ahead and share a little bit about
- 5:40Speaker 1: that question, what does books mean to you as an
- 5:44Speaker 1: incarcerated individual.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Well, I've been in like six when at this time
- 5:54Speaker 2: a second time down, and it was the pandemic when
- 6:00Speaker 2: I really just started writing books. It was a way
- 6:03Speaker 2: to escape the situation I was in because as you know,
- 6:08Speaker 2: it was a major lockdown, so we didn't go nowhere.
- 6:11Speaker 2: We were just stuck in the cell. And that was
- 6:14Speaker 2: my way to escape the world I was living in
- 6:17Speaker 2: at that time during the COVID.
- 6:21Speaker 1: So what type of literature do you write?
- 6:26Speaker 2: It's my first one because I actually know too. One
- 6:30Speaker 2: was comedy love novel and once again it was a
- 6:35Speaker 2: way they escape. And the second one was how two
- 6:39Speaker 2: books that wasn't need pictures, but just in the final stage,
- 6:46Speaker 2: I guess you can call it.
- 6:50Speaker 1: So if you would, can you kind of tell us
- 6:55Speaker 1: what is a process like for someone that is incarcerated
- 6:59Speaker 1: in trying to, you know, put together a book, get
- 7:03Speaker 1: a book out. So is this your first book, your
- 7:05Speaker 1: second book, your third book? What book are you on?
- 7:10Speaker 2: This? Comedy love novels? It was actually my first book
- 7:14Speaker 2: that I read. I wrote in the entirety last time
- 7:18Speaker 2: I was down. I was writing short stories, just practicing
- 7:22Speaker 2: when it played with and like I said, it was
- 7:27Speaker 2: just at first, just the way they escape, But then
- 7:30Speaker 2: I started envesciping the story Bark and everything just started
- 7:34Speaker 2: coming together. And I wrote it with the movie playing
- 7:38Speaker 2: in my head. So it was I'm not going to
- 7:40Speaker 2: say it was easy, but it wasn't hard because I
- 7:46Speaker 2: was actually playing it in my head before I even
- 7:49Speaker 2: was writing that on paper. And the characters, I more
- 7:56Speaker 2: did I guess what you what? We were going to
- 7:58Speaker 2: do an elementary with the creative thinking, you know, like
- 8:03Speaker 2: the characters with the position is what the role is?
- 8:06Speaker 2: And we actually just came together. So, I mean I
- 8:11Speaker 2: was surprised myself. About three hundred and eighty seven pages.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Wow. So for a person that is incarcerated, what is
- 8:28Speaker 1: how important is books to you? And being able to
- 8:33Speaker 1: have access to books as well as being able to
- 8:38Speaker 1: express yourself in the outlet of a book.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Well, you know, before I came to firston the first time,
- 8:47Speaker 2: I've actually never read a whole book. And I remember
- 8:52Speaker 2: the first whole book that I did read with the
- 8:54Speaker 2: James Patterson, and I couldn't put the book down when
- 8:59Speaker 2: he wrote. The way he would tell the story and
- 9:02Speaker 2: create his characters, that was very interesting to me. And
- 9:08Speaker 2: then the urban holes came and played and it was like, wow,
- 9:14Speaker 2: I think I could do this, you know, because I've
- 9:16Speaker 2: done this. I was doing this in the streets. So
- 9:20Speaker 2: he gave me an opportunity to, I guess, fighting my
- 9:23Speaker 2: horizons as far as if they could do that, I
- 9:26Speaker 2: could do it. So, like I said, the first time
- 9:29Speaker 2: I was down, I did short stories here and there.
- 9:32Speaker 2: I never took it seriously. But during the pandemic, like
- 9:37Speaker 2: I said, he really didn't move around. Was twenty four
- 9:40Speaker 2: hours lockdown and it was like for aboute a good
- 9:42Speaker 2: six months. So it was there that I started, I guess,
- 9:46Speaker 2: developing my creative side. And I just kept going and going.
- 9:50Speaker 2: I mean, oh, we had was time. So like I said,
- 9:54Speaker 2: it wasn't easy, but it wasn't art and like I said,
- 9:57Speaker 2: I surprised myself because I really didn't think I could
- 9:59Speaker 2: write a whole books. And it took me probably about
- 10:06Speaker 2: a good two years to write my first whole novel.
- 10:08Speaker 2: But that's only because I we wrote it four times,
- 10:12Speaker 2: would actually agree, and each time, I guess edited myself
- 10:17Speaker 2: add more to cloud and just made this the book
- 10:21Speaker 2: more quite interesting, I guess you call it.
- 10:24Speaker 1: So what stage are you in the book or is
- 10:29Speaker 1: the book published or are you looking to publish? What
- 10:32Speaker 1: stage are you in the book?
- 10:36Speaker 2: Well, I would like to get it for this, of
- 10:37Speaker 2: course I haven't. It's rewritten, but it's not typed up
- 10:46Speaker 2: because I haven't had access to a typewriter. So that
- 10:50Speaker 2: would be my fourth time, and I was gonna wait
- 10:52Speaker 2: till I got out to type actually type it up,
- 10:55Speaker 2: and then you know, send it to editors and stuff
- 10:58Speaker 2: like that, and know, shopping around more because I'm limited,
- 11:02Speaker 2: so I don't have people out there that be able
- 11:04Speaker 2: to help meet a publisher or do this with it,
- 11:08Speaker 2: you know, so I'll really just book the book. But
- 11:13Speaker 2: I don't notice that, you know.
- 11:16Speaker 1: So there's like so many different outlets, so many different platforms,
- 11:20Speaker 1: so many different ways that you can publish. Now, everybody's
- 11:25Speaker 1: looking for a so called established publisher. I guess we would
- 11:31Speaker 1: be a publishing house, I guess because they're looking for
- 11:34Speaker 1: the advancements in the gratuity and the things that come
- 11:38Speaker 1: along with being I guess so called traditional published. But
- 11:46Speaker 1: now there are so many other outlets. We have boutique publishers.
- 11:51Speaker 1: We actually have some self publishing coaches on the feed
- 11:55Speaker 1: right now that help individuals that want to publish their
- 11:59Speaker 1: books publish their book themselves through these various platforms that
- 12:04Speaker 1: we have. I offer a self publishing platform, a coaching platform.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Trevida has a publishing company, Patrisa's even dabbling and helping
- 12:16Speaker 1: individuals with different things when it comes to publishing. So
- 12:20Speaker 1: there are so many different outlets now. So when I
- 12:23Speaker 1: hear people say they're shopping around, I really want to know,
- 12:29Speaker 1: what does shopping around looks like for you? What what
- 12:33Speaker 1: does that word mean?
- 12:36Speaker 2: You know, we're finding the right people. I guess if
- 12:39Speaker 2: you want to call it like that, because I've read
- 12:42Speaker 2: stories or you know, from the different individuals that this
- 12:48Speaker 2: out there and they end up taking the book, and
- 12:51Speaker 2: you know, it's just more like can you trust because
- 12:55Speaker 2: you're really limited ass as how far you can go
- 12:59Speaker 2: in there, you know, especially when you don't have.
- 13:03Speaker 1: So what really like that? So what I suggest to
- 13:07Speaker 1: people before you start sending your manuscripts and start sending
- 13:12Speaker 1: stuff out, that you start presenting contracts to people, that
- 13:15Speaker 1: you start presenting stuff to people that can be helped
- 13:18Speaker 1: up in court. So you start telling people, Okay, I
- 13:20Speaker 1: need this from you, I need this. I need something
- 13:24Speaker 1: in writing stating what you're going to be able to
- 13:27Speaker 1: do for me. And before I send you my manuscript,
- 13:32Speaker 1: I need something that that will say that, hey, if
- 13:37Speaker 1: we decide the cut ties, that I'm gonna be able
- 13:40Speaker 1: to get what's mine's back. You know. That's that's that's
- 13:44Speaker 1: really all we need in this in this world, you know.
- 13:49Speaker 1: And I'm sad that it's sad that people have to
- 13:51Speaker 1: go through that, but I know that this is a
- 13:53Speaker 1: treacherous world that we live in and it happens because
- 13:56Speaker 1: that too has happened to me. But my whole goal
- 13:59Speaker 1: was to stop it from happening to people around me.
- 14:06Speaker 1: So that's why I started doing the things that I do,
- 14:09Speaker 1: started learning the things that I've learned. I learned how
- 14:12Speaker 1: to self publish myself because people did not want to
- 14:14Speaker 1: show me. People did not want to help. You will
- 14:16Speaker 1: ask people questions and they would give you the run around.
- 14:19Speaker 1: They made it seem impossible, when now it is so possible.
- 14:23Speaker 1: I'm showing people every other day different things that they
- 14:27Speaker 1: can do themselves, to expand their brand, to expand their reach,
- 14:31Speaker 1: and just different things of that nature. So I have Trevida,
- 14:35Speaker 1: who is a self publishing coach that is chiming in
- 14:38Speaker 1: right now. She said, how can I help?
- 14:44Speaker 2: Well, you can. Well, what you just said right now
- 14:48Speaker 2: was you know it made sense, you know, unless you
- 14:52Speaker 2: have a person telling you actually just what you could
- 14:55Speaker 2: do then how you can take the steps and this,
- 14:57Speaker 2: you know, and you know it's simple right when you're
- 15:01Speaker 2: looking through your side, But it's really like not simple
- 15:05Speaker 2: looking for my side because I don't, like I said,
- 15:08Speaker 2: I just my first book, you know, and I didn't
- 15:12Speaker 2: know which avenue to take because like I said that,
- 15:15Speaker 2: it's just me. I mean, I got my mom, but
- 15:17Speaker 2: you know, she don't know. I'm not gonna put that
- 15:20Speaker 2: pressure on her. So my thing was I was just
- 15:22Speaker 2: gonna wait type it up and stuff like that because
- 15:25Speaker 2: my resources was limited.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Y'all have a tablet now right, yes, ma'am. So like
- 15:33Speaker 1: y'all pretty much have the same resources we have. Y'all
- 15:35Speaker 1: have where y'all can look up stuff, y'all can research stuff.
- 15:39Speaker 1: How we find out how to do stuff, How me
- 15:41Speaker 1: and Trevida and some more people in my circle, how
- 15:44Speaker 1: we find out how to do stuff. We ain't always
- 15:46Speaker 1: knew how to publish. Like just like you say, somebody
- 15:48Speaker 1: took advantage of you or somebody took advantage of me.
- 15:51Speaker 1: That's what made me do the things that I do.
- 15:54Speaker 1: You know that, that's what made me get on a
- 15:58Speaker 1: tangent of making sure that I leave literary work for
- 16:03Speaker 1: people behind me and that they know how to do
- 16:05Speaker 1: the same. So I got a book that that that
- 16:08Speaker 1: talks people through from from from the beginning to the
- 16:12Speaker 1: end of how they can publish their book. So they'll
- 16:14Speaker 1: never be able to say as long as this is
- 16:16Speaker 1: in circulation and available in print and available digitally, they'll
- 16:20Speaker 1: never be able to say that they don't have the meanings,
- 16:23Speaker 1: because they can if they go do the research. So
- 16:25Speaker 1: we have those tools now. So what we're doing is
- 16:29Speaker 1: we're making those tools available to people that say that
- 16:32Speaker 1: they don't have those tools. So for everyone that says
- 16:35Speaker 1: they don't know how to publish or they don't know
- 16:37Speaker 1: what to do once they've written this stuff out or
- 16:39Speaker 1: type this stuff out. Then that's what people like Trevida,
- 16:44Speaker 1: myself and a couple of other people in our circle,
- 16:48Speaker 1: that's that's what we're here for. We're to help you,
- 16:51Speaker 1: guide you, to lead you down the right path so
- 16:55Speaker 1: that you don't have to keep getting the wrong information
- 16:59Speaker 1: and keep having to ask people the same questions that
- 17:03Speaker 1: they don't want to answer. Because I've been there, you know,
- 17:07Speaker 1: even dealing down to my magazine, asking people how to
- 17:11Speaker 1: you know, even do a digital magazine. It took someone
- 17:15Speaker 1: years to tell me how to do a digital magazine.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Once I started doing my printed magazine. Then now you
- 17:21Speaker 1: want to tell me how to do a digital magazine
- 17:23Speaker 1: because I know how to do the print magazine and
- 17:25Speaker 1: you want me to help you now. But when I
- 17:28Speaker 1: didn't know how to do it, you didn't want to help.
- 17:30Speaker 1: And that's what we run into, and that's what we see.
- 17:34Speaker 1: So we are trying to eliminate a lot of that
- 17:40Speaker 1: because we know what we've been through. So those that
- 17:44Speaker 1: are attached to my circle, see, we're not just thinking
- 17:47Speaker 1: about those in our household and our four and no more.
- 17:52Speaker 1: We're thinking about those next to us. We are at ripple.
- 17:57Speaker 1: In fact, we're trying to make sure that our legas
- 18:00Speaker 1: life and that people know that, yes, you can. You know,
- 18:04Speaker 1: I truly believe that our ancestors that came before us,
- 18:07Speaker 1: everything that they went through, it wasn't so that you know,
- 18:11Speaker 1: we can just do anything.
- 18:12Speaker 2: You know.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Somebody asked me the other day. They were I guess
- 18:16Speaker 1: they was trying to have an argument with me, but
- 18:17Speaker 1: I wasn't trying to do it. So they was trying
- 18:20Speaker 1: to say that I was saying that I didn't appreciate
- 18:22Speaker 1: the ancestors. But that's not what I was saying. I
- 18:25Speaker 1: was telling him that the things that I'm not my ancestors,
- 18:29Speaker 1: because the things that my ancestors did for me was dead.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Because we're supposed to do greater that's what the words say.
- 18:36Speaker 1: The words say greater works, and that we're supposed to
- 18:37Speaker 1: do greater works, and we're supposed to They supposed to
- 18:40Speaker 1: have paid the way for us to do greater works.
- 18:41Speaker 1: So I'm not my ancestor, and you're not going to
- 18:44Speaker 1: be able to do me like you did my ancestors
- 18:46Speaker 1: because they went through that so that I didn't have
- 18:48Speaker 1: to go through it. So that's what I was telling him,
- 18:51Speaker 1: but he didn't want to understand that. But because of
- 18:55Speaker 1: what we have been through, we don't want others to
- 18:58Speaker 1: go through that. So we are trying to lessen that process.
- 19:03Speaker 1: So exactly, we want to help individuals that want to
- 19:09Speaker 1: get their books out there. So when you're considering, I mean,
- 19:14Speaker 1: you don't have to wait until you're out. You know,
- 19:17Speaker 1: we have individuals that are incarcerated that are publishing books.
- 19:21Speaker 1: I mean, of course everything comes with the price because
- 19:24Speaker 1: it's not free. But then that's when it comes down.
- 19:27Speaker 1: You got to learn how to weigh your options. There's
- 19:31Speaker 1: things that you can do. You can't negotiate things with people.
- 19:35Speaker 1: I mean you may not always have funds, but there's
- 19:37Speaker 1: things that you can do that you may be able
- 19:40Speaker 1: to do for people that can help them on the outside.
- 19:45Speaker 1: So we have to learn our gifts and our talents
- 19:47Speaker 1: and our skills and how we can apply them and
- 19:50Speaker 1: how we can use them because that may be something
- 19:51Speaker 1: that you may be good and drawing. You may or
- 19:53Speaker 1: you may know somebody that can draw. Somebody may need characters.
- 19:57Speaker 1: You may can do some characters for them and then
- 19:59Speaker 1: you make an exchange, and y'all make an exchange, you know,
- 20:03Speaker 1: different things like that. But you gotta think of ways
- 20:06Speaker 1: that you can benefit from the position where you are,
- 20:11Speaker 1: because you also have to understand too that you're not
- 20:13Speaker 1: always gonna be in that position, that you're gonna one
- 20:17Speaker 1: day be out of that position. But you don't have
- 20:19Speaker 1: to wait until you get through it to see what
- 20:23Speaker 1: it's gonna be like. You can start seeing what it's
- 20:25Speaker 1: gonna be like now. So now you know you got
- 20:28Speaker 1: these books. Okay, now you know the next step because
- 20:31Speaker 1: keep writing it and keep reading it. You need to
- 20:34Speaker 1: get an editor because you've done it four times. You
- 20:36Speaker 1: need to get new eyes, new somebody looking at it
- 20:40Speaker 1: that's never seen it before so that they can put
- 20:44Speaker 1: their perspective on it. So now you got Patrice who's
- 20:49Speaker 1: a book reviewer. You have Trevida who's a editor, and
- 20:54Speaker 1: then you have other people that may tune in later
- 20:58Speaker 1: that does other stuff. But you have individuals that does
- 21:02Speaker 1: these things. Of course you didn't know that, but now
- 21:06Speaker 1: you know. So now you can utilize what you have
- 21:10Speaker 1: and figure out, yeah, they do charge. So now you
- 21:13Speaker 1: figure out, okay, well if I don't have the money.
- 21:17Speaker 1: How can I get the money? Or how can I barter?
- 21:20Speaker 1: Or what services can I provide? These are things that
- 21:23Speaker 1: we have to do as a community, right.
- 21:27Speaker 2: So I would to get the answers to all that,
- 21:30Speaker 2: you know, like how would I reach out? The show
- 21:33Speaker 2: is limited and things like that.
- 21:37Speaker 1: So you have to do your research. You have to
- 21:39Speaker 1: find out what what what is good for you you
- 21:41Speaker 1: You have to see what's what I mean. I can
- 21:45Speaker 1: provide you with the resources I have and then you
- 21:48Speaker 1: can tap into what I have. But I can't. I
- 21:53Speaker 1: just can't promise.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Nothing right right, man, I wouldn't expect a promise anything.
- 21:59Speaker 2: But you know, like I said, just on this show
- 22:04Speaker 2: right now, I've learned a lot, you know, just by
- 22:10Speaker 2: like I said, simple to you, but for somebody that
- 22:14Speaker 2: I don't knowing, it's fresh, you know, I'm taking it
- 22:18Speaker 2: all there.
- 22:21Speaker 1: And that's what we do. I mean that that's what
- 22:23Speaker 1: we're supposed to do, because there may be areas that
- 22:26Speaker 1: I don't know. Like I learned something the other day
- 22:29Speaker 1: talking to a young lady that I just helped her
- 22:32Speaker 1: publish her book. You know, there was some issues with
- 22:36Speaker 1: her book because you know, when you're teaching people, you're
- 22:39Speaker 1: teaching someone step by steps to do something. There can
- 22:42Speaker 1: be things that are left out in the translation. That
- 22:44Speaker 1: could be something left out in the worst name. But
- 22:47Speaker 1: there was a miscommunication in which file to upload. The
- 22:51Speaker 1: wrong file was upload so the wrong five costs the
- 22:54Speaker 1: wrong the book to be wrong. It made the book
- 22:59Speaker 1: to appear incorrect and blurry. And when the book arrived
- 23:04Speaker 1: today from the document that I uploaded, which is the
- 23:10Speaker 1: same document that she just re uploaded it, just when
- 23:15Speaker 1: it arrived today, it made her day because, hey, we
- 23:20Speaker 1: learned something during this experience as well, you know, even
- 23:23Speaker 1: though an error was made on our behalf, we also
- 23:27Speaker 1: learned something new that we can do in case something
- 23:30Speaker 1: like this does happen again. So it's always a learning experience.
- 23:34Speaker 1: And just because somebody appeared to be an expert or
- 23:38Speaker 1: may know something, don't mean that they know everything. Because
- 23:41Speaker 1: I'm learning every day. I don't know everything, you know,
- 23:45Speaker 1: even though I have all these books out here, there's
- 23:48Speaker 1: still stuff that I still make era. But that's why
- 23:52Speaker 1: I want reviews, That's why I want people's input. That's
- 23:55Speaker 1: why I love all of my tribe because they are
- 23:59Speaker 1: just like that, you know, and we help where we can.
- 24:03Speaker 1: So again, so you see what we have available. We
- 24:09Speaker 1: we have self publisher, we have self publishing coach, We
- 24:12Speaker 1: have a publishing a publisher over there. She also edits,
- 24:16Speaker 1: she does, she does everything from start to finish. I
- 24:23Speaker 1: trust her because I cannot do because I have my
- 24:28Speaker 1: hands and everything else. So what I can't do, I
- 24:30Speaker 1: love to send to her. I refer people to how
- 24:34Speaker 1: often because I know what she's capable of and I've
- 24:38Speaker 1: seen her work and I see what she can do.
- 24:42Speaker 1: So you you you have you have some individuals in place.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I mean we are we are the crew podcasts. We
- 24:53Speaker 1: we we are them beavers of the airways, and we're
- 24:56Speaker 1: not just podcasters, but we have the brands that do
- 25:02Speaker 1: other things and we just happen to be in a
- 25:07Speaker 1: place where we want to be a voice and we
- 25:10Speaker 1: just happen to be on the podcast, but we do
- 25:14Speaker 1: a lot of other stuff outside of being podcasters as well.
- 25:18Speaker 1: So know that you have a slew of resources in
- 25:23Speaker 1: your miss So get our contact information from Cornell and
- 25:30Speaker 1: we definitely would love to see how we can assist
- 25:32Speaker 1: you in getting that book out. And I always understand
- 25:37Speaker 1: that if there is ways that we can work things
- 25:44Speaker 1: out that thieves cannot be paid up front, then hey,
- 25:47Speaker 1: we can do that too, you know. But also when
- 25:52Speaker 1: we make these deals, you have to also be with
- 25:55Speaker 1: you understand that promoting and all of that is going
- 25:59Speaker 1: to follow you. We can't get these books out here
- 26:03Speaker 1: and then we don't share with our family and get
- 26:06Speaker 1: our family to get involved and our friends and all
- 26:10Speaker 1: those that say, hey, we support you. If we support you,
- 26:13Speaker 1: then we need your support. So if if I look out,
- 26:19Speaker 1: I need for your family to look out too. And
- 26:21Speaker 1: I'm just gonna put it out there if I publish it,
- 26:24Speaker 1: I'm just gonna put it out there because I don't mind.
- 26:26Speaker 1: I don't mind putting putting myself out there. If I
- 26:29Speaker 1: publish you, then I'm gonna need for people to purchase
- 26:34Speaker 1: the books so that they can't so that you can
- 26:37Speaker 1: get royalties so that you can pay me. Right, So
- 26:41Speaker 1: that's what that's all I need. Now. If you want
- 26:43Speaker 1: me to help you, I help you. I don't mind
- 26:45Speaker 1: helping you, but I can't promise you it's gonna be
- 26:47Speaker 1: quick because I do have some other projects in hand.
- 26:53Speaker 1: But hey, we out here and we're doing what we
- 26:58Speaker 1: need to do.
- 26:59Speaker 2: So hey, and I just want to thank you for
- 27:02Speaker 2: your time. Thank you all for your time and having
- 27:05Speaker 2: me on this podcast. And I'm gonna get with Drummer
- 27:10Speaker 2: and get that information for sure, talk to him a
- 27:14Speaker 2: little bit more, because he is like a mentor to me,
- 27:16Speaker 2: a good, good guy. I talked to him a lot,
- 27:19Speaker 2: you know, I learned learning from him, you know, about
- 27:23Speaker 2: his situation.
- 27:25Speaker 1: But uh, and then you would you would get to
- 27:28Speaker 1: see a little bit about what we do and who
- 27:30Speaker 1: we are, and a little bit about our books and
- 27:32Speaker 1: all that. If they had not hand up our magazine.
- 27:35Speaker 1: But they froze up our magazine. They actually sent it
- 27:39Speaker 1: out to Huntsville to be evaluated again. They just did
- 27:44Speaker 1: the same thing over at Connolly, and they approved it
- 27:47Speaker 1: at Connolly. Now he gets transferred over there. They're doing
- 27:50Speaker 1: the same thing over there. So once they approve the magazines,
- 27:53Speaker 1: you'll get an opportunity to kind of check us out
- 27:56Speaker 1: and see who we are, what we're doing, and what
- 28:00Speaker 1: we stand for all that good stuff. All right, I said,
- 28:07Speaker 1: no problem, thank.
- 28:09Speaker 3: You, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, okay.
- 28:28Speaker 1: So that was mister Cornell. Who is He is one
- 28:34Speaker 1: of h He is Chanet's co hosts. Over on Let's
- 28:37Speaker 1: Talk About It. They're on every every first and third Monday.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Cornell is currently incarcerated inside of the Domingus Unit. He
- 28:52Speaker 1: used to be on the Conny Unit and he's now
- 28:55Speaker 1: on the Mingus Unit. He's over there telling everybody about
- 28:59Speaker 1: the Crew podcast, that's the Spiring Office magazine and all
- 29:02Speaker 1: of the amazing things that we do over here. So
- 29:06Speaker 1: know that we are being talked about, we are being shared.
- 29:09Speaker 1: There are so many people that appreciate the things that
- 29:12Speaker 1: we do. Even if they do not like or share y'all,
- 29:15Speaker 1: they definitely appreciate the things that we do. So I
- 29:19Speaker 1: appreciate you guys for all that you do. I tell you,
- 29:23Speaker 1: just listening to individuals talk about some of the things
- 29:29Speaker 1: that they go through and trying to get their books published.
- 29:32Speaker 1: You know, I've had several people say that they've had
- 29:35Speaker 1: manuscripts that were stolen. They've had people take money when
- 29:40Speaker 1: they've tried to get book covers done. I've seen individuals
- 29:44Speaker 1: paying anywhere from fifteen hundred to twenty five hundred just
- 29:48Speaker 1: for a book cover, just for a book cover, when
- 29:51Speaker 1: you can pay a publisher that to publish your book,
- 29:54Speaker 1: but they're paying that much just for a book cover.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Just because they are behind prison whiles, people are taxing them.
- 30:02Speaker 1: They are truly taking advantage. They're taxing, they are double charging,
- 30:06Speaker 1: they're overcharging, and it's just sad when these individuals are
- 30:11Speaker 1: just wanting to allow their voices to be heard. They
- 30:14Speaker 1: are just using outlets to get things out that are
- 30:20Speaker 1: pressing them. You know, we be surprised at the things
- 30:24Speaker 1: that goes on behind prison whiles and the things that
- 30:28Speaker 1: these individuals endure. So writing has been an outlet for
- 30:34Speaker 1: many of them. So I am truly truly honored and
- 30:40Speaker 1: grateful for those that will allow me to help them
- 30:44Speaker 1: get their stuff out, because a lot of them they
- 30:47Speaker 1: just want to tell their story. They just want to share,
- 30:50Speaker 1: you know, their experience, their journey. So y'all, thank you
- 30:54Speaker 1: for stopping in with me tonight. Y'all were trying to
- 30:58Speaker 1: get these spaces filled up, and we can get these
- 31:00Speaker 1: spaces filled up, y'all will not have to see me
- 31:02Speaker 1: that much. We have three spots available right now, and
- 31:08Speaker 1: if I can get them feeled, I promise you y'all
- 31:10Speaker 1: won't see me that much. I will stay behind the scenes.
- 31:15Speaker 1: But right now we are needing someone to cover first
- 31:18Speaker 1: Sundays and fourth Mondays. We need someone to cover third
- 31:22Speaker 1: Sundays and second Thursdays, and we need someone to cover
- 31:26Speaker 1: second and fourth Wednesday. So, if you are out there,
- 31:29Speaker 1: if you are someone that desire to be a voice,
- 31:35Speaker 1: to be an outlet, to share your perspective, to be
- 31:40Speaker 1: that can doing, we definitely would love to have you
- 31:43Speaker 1: a part of the crew, podcast them, give us other airways.
- 31:48Speaker 1: We just believe in being the change that we desire
- 31:51Speaker 1: to see in this world and we've been given the
- 31:54Speaker 1: opportunity to do it through podcasting and other outlets. So
- 31:58Speaker 1: if you're out there and you want to join us,
- 32:01Speaker 1: you want to be a part of the family, reach out,

- 32:40Speaker 1: give him a chance to say something before I close out.
- 32:44Speaker 1: And then I'm gonna close out. But again, y'all, I

- 34:02Speaker 1: So y'all. We got Cornell back, and before we leave,
- 34:06Speaker 1: I want to give him a chance to say something
- 34:09Speaker 1: to you guys before we close out. Cornell, so say

- 34:30Speaker 2: magazine man. And I enjoyed this because I never really
- 34:34Speaker 2: thought I had it in me until I started, you know.
- 34:36Speaker 2: And I want to thank you, ma'am for encouraging me,
- 34:38Speaker 2: you know, to let me know that I had it

- 34:46Speaker 2: proud of myself for having this opportunity hand for doing it,
- 34:50Speaker 2: and I'm learning a whole lot more about myself my

- 34:56Speaker 2: was They're in me to you know, explore things about
- 34:59Speaker 2: myself that I never even knew anything about. But you know,
- 35:02Speaker 2: it's very very unique about me to give or to
- 35:04Speaker 2: do that. And I appreciation you for having this opportunity
- 35:07Speaker 2: and giving me you know, the courtaviage and you know

- 35:40Speaker 1: So it's up to us to tap into those things,
