- 0:25Speaker 1: Herd led Volume Podcast Network. We're pumped here at the
- 0:30Speaker 1: Action Network, We're pumped. Oh yeah, let's do this. After
- 0:35Speaker 1: a year long hiatus, March Madness has finally arrived, actually
- 0:39Speaker 1: two years. We have not had March Madness Basketball in
- 0:42Speaker 1: like seven hundred days, and there is no better way
- 0:46Speaker 1: to introduce the Thunderdome Edition of the Favorites than this.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Our guests are going to compete alongside my companion, my bff,
- 0:57Speaker 1: my co host, Professional Better Sign and Hunter. It will
- 1:01Speaker 1: be a battle of wagers and wits that makes the
- 1:04Speaker 1: S A t S look like a Cosmo quiz. Simon,
- 1:09Speaker 1: how are you, buddy? Did you ever think that I
- 1:11Speaker 1: forced you to answer trivia questions for our audiences amusement
- 1:15Speaker 1: and also, by the way, not just amusement, their betterment
- 1:19Speaker 1: and education. As we head into a massive betting event, Hello, chat,
- 1:26Speaker 1: I'm excited. I haven't been fired yet. I've made it
- 1:29Speaker 1: this second episode, so I'm really living my dream right now.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Somehow this week I became I went from being your
- 1:35Speaker 1: co host to your sidekick. People calling me Robin. What happened?
- 1:39Speaker 1: How did you become Batman? Now I'm Robin. That's what
- 1:42Speaker 1: happens to everybody. You can ask Matt Mitchell. You come
- 1:45Speaker 1: to the Action Network and you start working full time,
- 1:47Speaker 1: you learn your place pretty quickly. When you're sort of
- 1:49Speaker 1: out there in the ether and we're not paying you
- 1:51Speaker 1: and you're just my buddy coming on the podcast. I'll
- 1:54Speaker 1: give it whatever you need. When you get see the
- 1:56Speaker 1: Action Network, you learn where you stand in the pecking
- 2:00Speaker 1: order real fast. It is me and everybody else. Chad
- 2:04Speaker 1: Millman is proud of himself. It sounds right. I realized
- 2:08Speaker 1: I got health insurance. But now I'm called Rob. It's
- 2:10Speaker 1: a fair tread. You will re elevate to co host
- 2:13Speaker 1: status very very quickly, especially when we get to the
- 2:16Speaker 1: NFL season, and I will just be uh sitting along
- 2:20Speaker 1: the side rail, listening to everything you say and trying
- 2:23Speaker 1: to make all the money. But today, Simon, you will
- 2:26Speaker 1: face two guest challengers, and our first guest is our
- 2:29Speaker 1: new teammate, Alex Monico, sports gambling host on the Volume
- 2:34Speaker 1: podcast Network, more affectionately known as money Line Monico, my
- 2:40Speaker 1: favorite guilt written gambling host. What's going on? Brother? All right, Chad,
- 2:46Speaker 1: thank you for the wonderfully warm intro. That is exactly
- 2:50Speaker 1: what it is. As I was telling you, half Jewish,
- 2:52Speaker 1: half Italian. We lose these bets on the Action Network
- 2:55Speaker 1: now and they're on record. I'll be going from eight
- 2:57Speaker 1: hours to five hours of sleep, like last night when
- 3:00Speaker 1: I chased the freaking Clippers plus eight live. But no,
- 3:05Speaker 1: I'm very excited to be here. I I pretty much
- 3:07Speaker 1: gamble on everything. I mean, I don't know if you've
- 3:09Speaker 1: seen it out there in the ether. I am a fanatic,
- 3:12Speaker 1: you call it's a nice way to say degenerate, very
- 3:14Speaker 1: much married to the gambling game. I got a second
- 3:17Speaker 1: TV to my right, so it's a two TVs no
- 3:20Speaker 1: girlfriend up in here by design. So yeah, very excited
- 3:24Speaker 1: to be here with you. Yes, thanks Roving. Well, We're
- 3:26Speaker 1: glad to have you here. Is our second guest. Of course,
- 3:29Speaker 1: most people would know him. He is Kylin Wilson, one
- 3:33Speaker 1: of our Action Network brilliant analysts, especially when it comes
- 3:36Speaker 1: to college sports. Uh Jesus Christ. He's been doing this forever.
- 3:40Speaker 1: He's a co host of the Action Network podcast. You've
- 3:44Speaker 1: been hearing him all season long on the college basketball
- 3:47Speaker 1: podcast We're Stucky and Mike Randall. He's in Arkansas, alum
- 3:51Speaker 1: whoo pig SUI. We already know that he does not
- 3:55Speaker 1: like Arkansas to make the Final four, even though that
- 3:59Speaker 1: means he'll be reject to buy his community. Colin, how
- 4:01Speaker 1: are you, Chad? I'm doing great today, and I think
- 4:03Speaker 1: a more appropriate introduction would be person that has donated
- 4:07Speaker 1: to the Bobby Petrino and Brett Bilma buyouts. That couldn't
- 4:10Speaker 1: be anymore disparaging. Is throwing that news my weight? Well,
- 4:14Speaker 1: guess what, pretty soon you may be able to contribute
- 4:17Speaker 1: to the Eric Musselan bio because he could be going
- 4:19Speaker 1: to my alma mater, Indiana University. Don't even respond. Here's
- 4:23Speaker 1: how the game is played. You're gonna answer two kinds
- 4:26Speaker 1: of questions. First, there are traditional trivia questions about sports,
- 4:28Speaker 1: sports betting the world at large, but also completely subjective
- 4:32Speaker 1: and totally assinine open ended prompts to accumulate points. You
- 4:36Speaker 1: must answer the trivia questions correctly and also convince me
- 4:41Speaker 1: that your responses to those open ended prompts are better
- 4:44Speaker 1: than your opponents. I feel like this is the dressed down,
- 4:48Speaker 1: not as classy version of weight weight. Don't tell me
- 4:50Speaker 1: on NPR. If you hate gambling, go listen to NPR.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I should give all credit for this to producer Matt
- 4:57Speaker 1: Mitchell uh and audio genius, because is in this game
- 5:00Speaker 1: just like sports betting, you can't get him. All Right,
- 5:04Speaker 1: let's begin part one. I'm gonna sing it in Honorabilly Joe,
- 5:10Speaker 1: Come out Virginia. Don't let me wait here, we go Colin.
- 5:14Speaker 1: The last final four was held in two thousand nineteen,
- 5:17Speaker 1: when the University of Virginia won it. All named two
- 5:20Speaker 1: of the other three members of that final four Michigan State,
- 5:23Speaker 1: Texas Tech Auburn. Wow, dude, Alex Monico said the bar
- 5:29Speaker 1: signon he came in so hot On that, Alex, you're
- 5:33Speaker 1: up next. Virginia defeated Texas Tech by eight points in
- 5:36Speaker 1: that two thousand nineteen championship game. They only covered is
- 5:39Speaker 1: one and a half point favorites because UV a forced
- 5:41Speaker 1: overtime thanks to a three pointer with twelve seconds left
- 5:45Speaker 1: in regulation from this player, now a starter on the
- 5:49Speaker 1: Atlanta Hawks when he's not injured. I was gonna say, guy,
- 5:54Speaker 1: is it Guy? It's not guy, I'm wrong. You should
- 6:00Speaker 1: be ashamed of yourself. I know, I'm sorry. I'm I'm
- 6:05Speaker 1: gambling on the Hawks. I'm not watching every possession. The
- 6:09Speaker 1: answer is DeAndre Hunter. True story. I was on spring break,
- 6:13Speaker 1: UH with my family and my best friend's family. I
- 6:16Speaker 1: made a bet with my best friend's oldest son, who
- 6:19Speaker 1: was fifteen at the time, that uv A would cover.
- 6:22Speaker 1: The only steaks were he is a thoughtful, amazing, strong
- 6:26Speaker 1: willed kid. The stakes were if uv A covered for
- 6:30Speaker 1: the next forty eight hours of our trip. Anytime I
- 6:33Speaker 1: was in the room and I said something or I
- 6:35Speaker 1: said that he had to do this, although the thing
- 6:37Speaker 1: he could say was you're right, Chad, And believe me,
- 6:40Speaker 1: there's nothing more painful for a strong willed teenager than
- 6:44Speaker 1: to have to not respond to just say you're right.
- 6:47Speaker 1: It was the greatest forty eight hours of my life.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Chad Millman got something right, all right, Simon. When you
- 6:53Speaker 1: VA won that championship and cut down the nets, the
- 6:56Speaker 1: broadcast booth referred to them as the All Time Turnaround Champions,
- 7:00Speaker 1: a reference to their mortifying two thousand eighteen opening round
- 7:03Speaker 1: loss to this team, the only sixteen seed to ever
- 7:06Speaker 1: defeat a one seed named the team or its mascot.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Let's go with Cleveland State University, Maryland Baltimore County, the Retrievers. Wow,
- 7:19Speaker 1: Colin Wilson getting out to a big, big lead. And
- 7:23Speaker 1: by the way, this is why you're the fucking sidekick
- 7:25Speaker 1: because you don't know college basketball. I don't, but I
- 7:28Speaker 1: do well in these brackets because of that. So the
- 7:30Speaker 1: less you know, chat, here we go. Are you ready?
- 7:33Speaker 1: Part two? As you know, last year, a budding global
- 7:37Speaker 1: pandemic denied us a college basketball champion, and it's been
- 7:40Speaker 1: two years since we've experienced March madness of your task.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Sell me on another annual sporting event that would be
- 7:46Speaker 1: improved if it was held every other year from now on.
- 7:49Speaker 1: For example, if Nathan's hot dog eating contest was held
- 7:52Speaker 1: every other fourth of July, it might feel more fun
- 7:55Speaker 1: and less gross. Simon, you get to go first. Now,
- 8:00Speaker 1: this is very close to my heart, and it's the
- 8:03Speaker 1: World Cup. Never get over the fact that it's such
- 8:05Speaker 1: an old school thing that it's every four years. I
- 8:07Speaker 1: know some people like that because it's so much time between,
- 8:10Speaker 1: but I've always been claiming for two years. There's just
- 8:13Speaker 1: so much talent right now. In the world that plays
- 8:15Speaker 1: football around the nation, like everywhere. I mean, even America
- 8:19Speaker 1: is getting better playing soccer. So I would love if
- 8:21Speaker 1: they would make it two years for the World Cup
- 8:24Speaker 1: because I would just like to see the showcase and
- 8:26Speaker 1: of the talent. There's there's a few more more fun
- 8:28Speaker 1: than betting on the World Cup because it's nation first
- 8:30Speaker 1: nation and if you're traveling during the World Cup, it's
- 8:33Speaker 1: just cool everyone wearing all their countries colors and everything
- 8:35Speaker 1: like that. So for me, I wish they had moved
- 8:37Speaker 1: with every two years. Here's what I like that you did.
- 8:40Speaker 1: You took the premise, which was take something that happens
- 8:43Speaker 1: every year and turn it into something every other year,
- 8:47Speaker 1: and you took something that is so beloved and so
- 8:49Speaker 1: good it said there's too much scarcity, we need more
- 8:52Speaker 1: of it, and turned it from four years to two years.
- 8:55Speaker 1: I will accept that answer, and I'm going to give
- 8:57Speaker 1: you extra credit for coming up with something that is
- 9:00Speaker 1: the complete opposite of what the question was. Alex, you
- 9:03Speaker 1: get to go next. God, I gotta go with the
- 9:05Speaker 1: Pro Bowl, my friend, the most unnecessary annual. I'm gonna
- 9:10Speaker 1: quote your boys Seinfeld here when he got an award
- 9:13Speaker 1: just give them the award. People that get awards, they
- 9:16Speaker 1: know that they're already in work. Just just say it
- 9:19Speaker 1: out loud. If if these guys are gonna be millionaires,
- 9:21Speaker 1: not tackling, and now we're in Orlando and not even Hawaii,
- 9:25Speaker 1: so aesthetics are out the window. If they're playing out
- 9:28Speaker 1: to get hurt, just you know, moving before the Super
- 9:31Speaker 1: Bowl like they used two years ago, or Bud Kiss,
- 9:34Speaker 1: I'm all set. It's the It's the MLB All Star
- 9:36Speaker 1: Game of bus baby, give me the Pro Bowl every
- 9:38Speaker 1: other year. I don't mind that answer either. That is
- 9:41Speaker 1: very thoughtful. All right, Colin, I think I know how
- 9:43Speaker 1: I'm handicapping this race so far, but give me give
- 9:47Speaker 1: me your response. Listen. If we're gonna talk about bowls,
- 9:49Speaker 1: we need to trim bowl season back. And this is
- 9:52Speaker 1: a guy that will watch any Bowl at any time
- 9:55Speaker 1: and bet on anything. There's just too many of them,
- 9:58Speaker 1: and so we need to ask ourselves. Do I need
- 10:00Speaker 1: a Bad Boy Mower's Bowl every year? Do I need
- 10:03Speaker 1: a Bitcoin St. Peter's Bird Tropicana whatever the hell that
- 10:06Speaker 1: thing was? Bowl between Mississippi State and Miami of Ohio.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Full game fever, catchet, No, listen, to New Mexico Bowl
- 10:14Speaker 1: hasn't even had a sponsor in four years and they
- 10:17Speaker 1: just played the goddamn thing in Frisco, Texas. There's too
- 10:20Speaker 1: many bowls. Some of these need to be chopped off.
- 10:23Speaker 1: But don't take away my Bahama's bowl, right, So some
- 10:25Speaker 1: of these need to be trimmed. Wow, that's pretty good too.
- 10:27Speaker 1: By the way, Bitcoin training a fifty thousand this morning.
- 10:30Speaker 1: I'm going to annoying a winner here. And it's not
- 10:33Speaker 1: because he's my bff and my companion and my full
- 10:37Speaker 1: co host of the Favorites podcast on the Volume podcasting Networks.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Because his answer was the most creative and I think
- 10:45Speaker 1: would bring the most fun. And at the end of
- 10:47Speaker 1: the day, I want something that is going to bring fun.
- 10:50Speaker 1: I don't want something that is just something that sucks.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Now getting it every two years instead of getting it
- 10:55Speaker 1: every year. There is no better event than the World Cup.
- 10:58Speaker 1: It is extraordinary. Simon Hunter, you win that round. Not
- 11:04Speaker 1: to be confused with DeAndre Hunter, that is correct. Part two,
- 11:09Speaker 1: Cinderella and the City March Madness is all about Cinderella stories.
- 11:14Speaker 1: So our first question is inspired by the beloved animated
- 11:19Speaker 1: movie Cinderella released by Disney. Back in nineteen fifty. The
- 11:23Speaker 1: n A basketball champion that year was the City College
- 11:27Speaker 1: of New York, who's infamous point shaving scandal rocked the
- 11:33Speaker 1: college basketball world, infuriated honest gamblers, and forever altered New
- 11:38Speaker 1: York City status as a college basketball powerhouse. Despite this,
- 11:41Speaker 1: there are still seven men's programs with campuses in New
- 11:45Speaker 1: York City. Name these seven schools one point each. You'll
- 11:50Speaker 1: guess one at a time, snake draft style. Simon. We're
- 11:54Speaker 1: gonna start with you, thank God, because I think I
- 11:57Speaker 1: only know to n y U. You're wrong, Alex, You're
- 12:02Speaker 1: up next, Cornell. What the funk is wrong with you?
- 12:07Speaker 1: Cornell is not in New York City? Are you saying
- 12:09Speaker 1: New York City? I thought it was a surrounding area.
- 12:12Speaker 1: It's New York City. And by the way, Cornell isn't
- 12:15Speaker 1: even the surrounding area. Cornell is like eight hours away.
- 12:19Speaker 1: It's an upstate New York. It's closer to Canada. Columbia alright,
- 12:24Speaker 1: Columbia is right. Jesus Christ. We're giving you that answer
- 12:28Speaker 1: only because, like you're a new friend, we give people
- 12:31Speaker 1: second chances. Colin, Yeah, I mean, I'll clean up the
- 12:34Speaker 1: other six if these guys can't get him. So he's
- 12:35Speaker 1: lucky he got Columbia. I'm gonna take the one away
- 12:37Speaker 1: that these guys might actually get. So I'll start with St. John's. Boom, Alex,
- 12:42Speaker 1: You're up next? Does Fordham count Fordham counts? That's pretty good? Alright,
- 12:47Speaker 1: So Alex, you got to Yeah, I'm dead there, right,
- 12:51Speaker 1: I got nothing? Oh my god, Simon is zero here
- 12:55Speaker 1: so far. Colin, you're next. I'm gonna take the team
- 12:57Speaker 1: away that's made the tournament more times people would recognize
- 13:00Speaker 1: that be Manhattan. No, that was a good one. He
- 13:05Speaker 1: got it, Alex. Your next Queen City College. Oh Jesus Christ.
- 13:11Speaker 1: So I'm gonna take the Long Island Sharks away from
- 13:13Speaker 1: because they've made the tournament a bunch of times. True.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Colin just ended if you get one more? Yeah, well,
- 13:21Speaker 1: Wagner was the number one seed in their conference tournament.
- 13:23Speaker 1: They didn't pull it off. So that's one that's in
- 13:25Speaker 1: Staten Island. And then the last one is the only
- 13:27Speaker 1: team out of this entire group that has never made
- 13:30Speaker 1: the n c A tournament, and that would be St.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Francis of New York, not St. Francis of p A.
- 13:34Speaker 1: So there's your teams. Well done. Can someone get Alex
- 13:41Speaker 1: some kind of atlas so he can learn a little
- 13:44Speaker 1: bit about where things are? Part two of our Cinderella
- 13:47Speaker 1: story Game. Cinderella is one of thirteen officially recognized Disney princesses. Suddenly,
- 13:52Speaker 1: on the one Disney princess you choose to build a
- 13:54Speaker 1: winning basketball team around. Obviously, you guys know all three
- 13:58Speaker 1: of the princesses by heart. As a reminder for the audience,
- 14:02Speaker 1: they are snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Area Bell, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Lulan, Tianna, Rapunzel, Merida,
- 14:12Speaker 1: mo Wanna and Raya Alex. This might be the moment
- 14:17Speaker 1: when you can redeem yourself. Chad, I gotta go with
- 14:19Speaker 1: snow White. It's an easy decision. First of all, she
- 14:23Speaker 1: deals with the seven Dwarves. That's grumpy, that's sleepy, that's dopey,
- 14:27Speaker 1: that's a little Bill Walton, little Rashid Wallace. You got
- 14:30Speaker 1: the dot Bashful, you got the metal world piece rock
- 14:34Speaker 1: in the Indiana Pacers Brawl pre Meta. Who better equipped
- 14:38Speaker 1: than snow White? She already deals with every kind of
- 14:40Speaker 1: little man possible. This is far and away will be
- 14:45Speaker 1: my best answer snow White. I don't mind it. Colin,
- 14:49Speaker 1: you're up thinking about r L. But she doesn't have
- 14:51Speaker 1: any legs, like she had to cut a deal with
- 14:53Speaker 1: a damn octopus just to try to find some feet.
- 14:56Speaker 1: So if you can't even find some feet, you're not
- 14:57Speaker 1: gonna be on my team. Frankly, the winner in this
- 15:00Speaker 1: group is not even close is Jasmine, and the reasons
- 15:03Speaker 1: because she married Aladdin, which means she now owns half
- 15:06Speaker 1: of that Flying Rug, and by the time she gets divorced,
- 15:09Speaker 1: she'll owned all of the Flying Rug. That's what I
- 15:12Speaker 1: want on my basketball team. That's not bad either. That
- 15:15Speaker 1: is next level thinking. All right, Simon, Yeah, you know
- 15:19Speaker 1: what I'm gonna do. I'm a schemer. I'm always looking
- 15:21Speaker 1: for a little edge, a little loophole. We left out
- 15:24Speaker 1: a huge loophole. Someone that recently just joined the Disney
- 15:27Speaker 1: family might some might say the greatest princess ever exists,
- 15:30Speaker 1: Princess Leah. I don't even need a ruling here, because
- 15:34Speaker 1: Simon went next level in the same way that he
- 15:37Speaker 1: thought about the World Cup. He looked at the problem
- 15:40Speaker 1: and didn't accept what he saw in front of him.
- 15:43Speaker 1: He decided there's a better way to win. Guys. That's
- 15:46Speaker 1: why he's been a successful professional better for so long.
- 15:49Speaker 1: That's why he wins this round of the game. Simon,
- 15:53Speaker 1: this isn't yad the fixes in with your co host.
- 15:57Speaker 1: She may be able to float through space dead and frozen,
- 15:59Speaker 1: but she got no damn carpet. So whatever, let's head
- 16:02Speaker 1: into Part three. I'm giving you a score update right now.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Colin is ahead. He's got six points. Simon and Alex
- 16:09Speaker 1: are tied with two. Although Simon has given very creative answers,
- 16:13Speaker 1: and even if he just gets those two points, I
- 16:15Speaker 1: feel like strategically he has proven himself to be head
- 16:18Speaker 1: and shoulders above everybody. Here. Part three, let's party like
- 16:21Speaker 1: it's Fans love to see fresh teams get their shot
- 16:24Speaker 1: at the Big Dance. Simon, also known as the State
- 16:28Speaker 1: University of New Jersey. This team broke the longest March
- 16:33Speaker 1: Madness drought in this year's tournament. Come on, Jersey Boy,
- 16:37Speaker 1: I'll go with the Rutgers, but it feels like it's
- 16:38Speaker 1: tc J. I'll say Rutgers. Nice job, the Scarlet Knights.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Last One Dancing was the first year CBS televised every
- 16:49Speaker 1: n C Double A tournament. Game. This famous broadcaster was
- 16:54Speaker 1: their top play by play guy, also famous for referring
- 16:59Speaker 1: to the Masters as a tradition unlike any other Alex
- 17:03Speaker 1: that as you Jim Nance throw me a double tap
- 17:07Speaker 1: lay up. Thank you Chad for welcome back to Butler
- 17:10Speaker 1: Cabin and this tradition unlike any other week and this
- 17:13Speaker 1: is for you. In c double A Championship, Larry Johnson
- 17:17Speaker 1: in the undefeated un l V Runnin Rebels lost to
- 17:21Speaker 1: this eight point underdog Colin who beat them. Sadly, guys,
- 17:27Speaker 1: this is right up my alley because Arkansas was in
- 17:29Speaker 1: the final four the year before. Whoo pig SUI. The
- 17:33Speaker 1: answer is Duke, because Duke was embarrassed the year before
- 17:37Speaker 1: by that wonderful un l V team that my Arkansas
- 17:39Speaker 1: fought with every single year. You are correct. Let's keep going,
- 17:43Speaker 1: simon your next The song Someday was number one in
- 17:47Speaker 1: the charts in March, performed by this female powerhouse Billboard
- 17:53Speaker 1: magazine's most successful musical artist of the nineties. It feels
- 17:57Speaker 1: like Madonna killed the nineties. So I guess, Madonna, I'm
- 18:08Speaker 1: going to give you another. Yes, I'm gonna give you
- 18:10Speaker 1: another yess. Alright, it feels like it's cheena. Mariah Carey.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Mariah Carey is the answer in Alex. This car, named
- 18:20Speaker 1: after a zodiac symbol, was in the middle of a
- 18:22Speaker 1: six year run. Is the most popular car in America
- 18:27Speaker 1: for years. I should know this off the dome aries
- 18:33Speaker 1: before Taurus. Oh that makes it sound so easy, Alex.
- 18:40Speaker 1: This game is not going well for you. Maybe there's
- 18:42Speaker 1: time to rally Colin. Some Vegas sports books lost over
- 18:46Speaker 1: a million dollars after two teams went from worst to
- 18:48Speaker 1: first to meet in the World Series. The Atlanta Braves
- 18:52Speaker 1: were hundred one to win the n O Pennant. They
- 18:54Speaker 1: lost in the World Series in seven games to this
- 18:56Speaker 1: team who were a hundred one to win the World Series.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Let mean Jack Morrison, the Twins. Here's what's unfair. That's
- 19:13Speaker 1: what's unfair. Colin is the only other person on this
- 19:16Speaker 1: podcast who's old like me. You too old. You're just
- 19:19Speaker 1: an old man. He lived through all these things. He
- 19:22Speaker 1: might have been driving a FOURD Taurus. He might have
- 19:24Speaker 1: been listening to Mariah Carey on c D S was
- 19:29Speaker 1: the birth of Nirvana. So no, I was listening to
- 19:31Speaker 1: never Mind and I wasn't able to drive, And if
- 19:32Speaker 1: I would have been I had O J's Broncos so
- 19:35Speaker 1: Ford Broncos out of a Ford Taurus. So all right,
- 19:37Speaker 1: So maybe I was listening to Mariah and c DS
- 19:39Speaker 1: and I was driving a four tour us while also
- 19:41Speaker 1: watching that World Series. Here we go, next question, as
- 19:44Speaker 1: we celebrate Rutger's return to March Madness for the first
- 19:46Speaker 1: time since. If you could bring back one thing from
- 19:49Speaker 1: the early nineties to immediately improved sports betting today, what
- 19:53Speaker 1: would you choose? Colin Europe first technology has made the
- 19:57Speaker 1: gambling space better for consumers, better for betters. Actually it's
- 20:01Speaker 1: been better for bookmakers. What got me in trouble with
- 20:04Speaker 1: my parents back then is that I called a one
- 20:06Speaker 1: number and my parents thought that I was calling like
- 20:08Speaker 1: for like, you know, some sort of dirty girl one
- 20:12Speaker 1: number thing. No, I was calling a touts hotline because
- 20:16Speaker 1: apparently he was standing on the sideline of a two
- 20:18Speaker 1: lane football game and I needed to know if a
- 20:20Speaker 1: running back is playing. If we could bring something back
- 20:23Speaker 1: from the past, the age of the one numbers, and
- 20:26Speaker 1: we shouldn't have touts. The number should go straight to
- 20:30Speaker 1: beat writers that are on the basketball court on the
- 20:33Speaker 1: football field telling us who's in warmups, Who looks a
- 20:37Speaker 1: little shaky. Who's got to take a ship? Right? I
- 20:39Speaker 1: mean this apparently handicapping Lamar Jackson and Paul Pears bowel
- 20:43Speaker 1: movements are a thing now, so it's I need a
- 20:45Speaker 1: one numbers straight to the field. I love that idea.
- 20:48Speaker 1: By the way, I used to call three one three,
- 20:51Speaker 1: which was sports phone, every ten minutes to get updates
- 20:54Speaker 1: on scores. That's the kind of world we were living in.
- 20:56Speaker 1: You're just an old man. Also, not for nothing. One time,
- 21:00Speaker 1: my buddy's mom did happen to get on the phone
- 21:02Speaker 1: when we call the different kind of nine number, and
- 21:05Speaker 1: she was asking us a lot of questions. Alex, look
- 21:08Speaker 1: back into your infant memories and tell me one thing
- 21:12Speaker 1: that could come back. They would improve sports betting today. Chat,
- 21:16Speaker 1: I gotta go with bullyball. I'm sorry. I'm sick of
- 21:19Speaker 1: these little baby back whistles, the hardened flops, the Italy
- 21:24Speaker 1: Siri odd dives, whatever you wanna call them. I missing
- 21:28Speaker 1: eighties six game when I was in diapers. Everyone hammer
- 21:31Speaker 1: in the under. If they played playoff basketball all year,
- 21:36Speaker 1: it would make for a better product in terms of gambling.
- 21:40Speaker 1: You're not gonna get bailed out by the whistle. The
- 21:43Speaker 1: rest is screwing us every other day, and I gotta
- 21:45Speaker 1: bring back some elbows and some jugglers getting hit and
- 21:49Speaker 1: a couple of bloody noses. I like that idea. I
- 21:52Speaker 1: think that's a really good idea. Bullyball. Bullyball. Bill lamp
- 21:56Speaker 1: here with it all right, Simon, this is your chance
- 21:58Speaker 1: make a move. If I to bring anything back from
- 22:02Speaker 1: it would be your jet black hair. I don't know
- 22:05Speaker 1: how it was so black back then, but I'm looking
- 22:08Speaker 1: at these photos and I can't get over how dark
- 22:10Speaker 1: your hair used to be. So I can bring any back,
- 22:12Speaker 1: anything to improve my gambling life, it would be Chad's
- 22:15Speaker 1: jet black hair. I swear to God, I think you
- 22:18Speaker 1: look great for there. I agree with you, Simon. Somehow
- 22:23Speaker 1: it's come down to you and Alex Monico. I am
- 22:27Speaker 1: gonna go with Simon because why why why yet? Black hair.
- 22:37Speaker 1: The reason why he's saying that is because over the
- 22:39Speaker 1: past few days since we announced the deal with Colin
- 22:42Speaker 1: and Volume Podcast Network, there have been a couple of
- 22:45Speaker 1: pictures floating around of me on the set of Colin's
- 22:48Speaker 1: Sunday Morning Football show when we were both at EUSt
- 22:50Speaker 1: PN and I look like, I'm twelve years old and
- 22:54Speaker 1: I've got the most glorious head of jet black hair.
- 22:57Speaker 1: I look freaking fantastic. I'm gonna tell you this, Alex.
- 23:00Speaker 1: If Chad doesn't work out here at the Action networking
- 23:02Speaker 1: with the volume, he's definitely got a job as a
- 23:04Speaker 1: Pack twelve football referee. Al Right, Part four Alum is.
- 23:09Speaker 1: One of the best parts of March Madness is learning
- 23:12Speaker 1: about random schools and their quasi famous alumni. Virginia is
- 23:17Speaker 1: a number three seed in this former Mountaineers basketball star
- 23:20Speaker 1: played for every Lakers team, Alex, this is for you
- 23:23Speaker 1: every Lakers team on the nineteen sixties. There's Hall of
- 23:27Speaker 1: Fame career, and is believed to be the model for
- 23:30Speaker 1: the NBA logo. This, as they say in the biz pun,
- 23:34Speaker 1: intended a fucking layup. Mr Jerry West boom colin twelve
- 23:43Speaker 1: seeded win through boast this popular actress as an alum.
- 23:47Speaker 1: She played Bill Murray's TV producer and love interest in
- 23:50Speaker 1: the movie Groundhog Day, Andy McDonald boom Uh Simon, This
- 23:56Speaker 1: one's for you. You're never gonna get it, but I'm
- 23:57Speaker 1: probably gonna geopard anyways. Actor barcad Abdi is a product
- 24:02Speaker 1: of fourteen seed more Head State. He famously tells Tom
- 24:06Speaker 1: Hanks this quote in this two thirteen film look at me,
- 24:13Speaker 1: I and the captain. Now look at me, Sure, look
- 24:19Speaker 1: at me. Sure, I'm the captain. Now I remember is
- 24:22Speaker 1: a smalling higher it's robbing the ship? Captain? What was it? Man?
- 24:26Speaker 1: But I can't remember it? You know what? You came
- 24:29Speaker 1: so close and you tried so hard. You know it's there.
- 24:32Speaker 1: It's Captain Phillips, and you're you had it. So you're
- 24:34Speaker 1: getting a point for that. Alex sixteen seeded. Drexel is
- 24:39Speaker 1: the school of fame music producer Howard Benson, who wanted
- 24:42Speaker 1: Grammy for producing this singer's two thousand and eleven albums Stronger,
- 24:45Speaker 1: which featured the chart topping single what Doesn't Kill You
- 24:49Speaker 1: It Makes You Strong? Gosh, is this embarrassing that I
- 24:55Speaker 1: think I might know this? You should know it. She's
- 24:59Speaker 1: an incredible art Kelly Clarkson. Kelly Clarkson, I started laughing
- 25:04Speaker 1: in the middle of that question because I'm thinking of
- 25:06Speaker 1: like all the stuff that we have to be doing
- 25:08Speaker 1: right now at the Action Network to get ready for
- 25:10Speaker 1: March Madness. And I got Matt Mitchell, who I know
- 25:13Speaker 1: is in a dark room looking for these kinds of questions. Uh,
- 25:16Speaker 1: all right, Colin, this is another one for you. Last
- 25:19Speaker 1: two questions of this round. This ESPN insider graduated from
- 25:23Speaker 1: ninth seeded St. Bonaventure and is famous for NBA social
- 25:27Speaker 1: media news bombs that bear his nickname, Adrian will Janowski.
- 25:33Speaker 1: That is correct, Simon, last question. One of twelve seeded
- 25:38Speaker 1: Georgetown's most famous alums is this late twentieth century U
- 25:41Speaker 1: S president who received a bachelor's degree from their School
- 25:44Speaker 1: of Foreign Service in Clinton, Bill Clinton. If you had
- 25:49Speaker 1: said Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford, Barack Obama, I also would
- 25:53Speaker 1: have given you credit. It's Bill Clinton. But you always
- 25:55Speaker 1: get the right answer. Bill Clinton also one of two
- 26:00Speaker 1: two presidents I've met. Bill Clinton also joining me in
- 26:02Speaker 1: a ton of games and Bud Walton Arena in the
- 26:04Speaker 1: mid nineties. Totally did that whoo pig SUI famous. The
- 26:08Speaker 1: lambs are great, but there's no greater ambassador for college
- 26:11Speaker 1: hoops program than it's mascot. Looking at the round one matchups,
- 26:14Speaker 1: handicap your favorite mascot matchup, including the money line and
- 26:18Speaker 1: who you are taking, Colin your first There's a favorite
- 26:21Speaker 1: in there that would probably have short odds, and sometimes
- 26:24Speaker 1: it's okay to bet fat favorites. Think of Floyd Madeweather
- 26:28Speaker 1: against Connor McGregory, you had to hammer it. And so
- 26:31Speaker 1: when you look at Drexel going up against Illinois, you
- 26:34Speaker 1: kind of think of Mario the Magnificent, the Dragon for Drexel,
- 26:38Speaker 1: and he should be about a minus four hundred favorite
- 26:41Speaker 1: because he's going up against the Fighting a Lion I.
- 26:43Speaker 1: But what you don't think about is the fighting a
- 26:45Speaker 1: Lion I are going through in a complete identity change.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Their new mascot is now a bird called Kingfisher, and
- 26:53Speaker 1: I quote is known for taking a high speed dive.
- 26:57Speaker 1: I will lay minus four d minus five of under
- 27:00Speaker 1: minus six hundred against any bird that represents a high
- 27:04Speaker 1: speed dive and represents a team run by Brett Bilma.
- 27:08Speaker 1: So yes, give me Mario the Magnificent of Drexel minus
- 27:12Speaker 1: five hundred. I'll lay it all day, bank account, kids,
- 27:14Speaker 1: college fund everything. I will tell you right now. My
- 27:17Speaker 1: other son is Uh has applied to colleges once to
- 27:21Speaker 1: study game design. One of the best game design programs
- 27:23Speaker 1: in the country is at Drexel. I am very aware
- 27:26Speaker 1: of what Drexel was and of the dragons, and I
- 27:29Speaker 1: am with you. I love the Dragons as a nickname.
- 27:32Speaker 1: I love the dragons in this matchup as an Illinoisan,
- 27:36Speaker 1: I am annoying they've changed it to this Kingfisher that
- 27:39Speaker 1: takes a dive. In sports, the last thing you want
- 27:42Speaker 1: to do is be connected to anything that takes a dive.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Alex got a long way to go to climb out
- 27:46Speaker 1: of this word. Buddy, I'm gonna go with I think
- 27:49Speaker 1: what is the most highly anticipated first round matchup? And
- 27:52Speaker 1: from a mascot standpoint, Chad, I'm gonna go with Ramseys.
- 27:57Speaker 1: The Dorset ram for the tar heels at a little minus.
- 28:00Speaker 1: I would say probably one fort because Bucky the Badger
- 28:03Speaker 1: of Wisconsin looks pesky. But I've seen the Dorset ram
- 28:08Speaker 1: when he gets snickers hangry. I gotta be honest. I'm
- 28:11Speaker 1: taking those horns all day long to run over Bucky.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Maybe give a little tar heel Cobra Kai high kick.
- 28:18Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know if there's enough time,
- 28:20Speaker 1: but I will swallow the little bit of juice. Give
- 28:24Speaker 1: me Ramassies. It's also like a like a Game of Thrones.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Name if we're calling a spade of spade just Ramesses
- 28:31Speaker 1: doesn't lose till Bucky the Badger. I think that's really interesting.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Badgers are They are tough, but Bucky the Badger is
- 28:40Speaker 1: no honey badger. So I don't mind this one. Uh signon,
- 28:43Speaker 1: you're up next. I feel like this one is really easy.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Almost heaving West Virginia a mountain near. I mean, the
- 28:51Speaker 1: guy has a gun and he's playing against Morehead State,
- 28:54Speaker 1: who was just a bird. I woulna take a mountain
- 28:56Speaker 1: a mountaineer with a gun to beat a bird every time,
- 28:59Speaker 1: So I'd make these odds minus ten thousands, like I'm
- 29:03Speaker 1: now near killing a bird. That's just time and practice.
- 29:05Speaker 1: So for me, I love the odds. West Virginia's mascot
- 29:08Speaker 1: let something you are a hundred percent correct? Of course,
- 29:13Speaker 1: it's the guy with the shotgun. You went again. It's
- 29:16Speaker 1: unkenny to me that you keep pulling these out in
- 29:19Speaker 1: the last second. Here we go, Part five. The Action
- 29:22Speaker 1: Network app is great, but it can always get better,
- 29:26Speaker 1: so let's play Action app upgrades. The award winning Action
- 29:30Speaker 1: Network app is great. It lets you track your bets,
- 29:33Speaker 1: gives you real time win percentages on your picks. It's
- 29:35Speaker 1: got betting tools, it lets you follow friends and experts
- 29:38Speaker 1: to see what they're betting. It's incredible, but that doesn't
- 29:41Speaker 1: mean it can't get better in this segment, and your
- 29:43Speaker 1: job is to pitch me a brand new app future.
- 29:45Speaker 1: I don't care how expensive about Land is potentially dangerous
- 29:48Speaker 1: it might be as long as it moves the needle
- 29:51Speaker 1: and helps us serve gamblers better. We also call this
- 29:54Speaker 1: this shameless promotion section. Simon, you're a first Definitely for me,
- 29:59Speaker 1: I would say the biggest thing with be something that
- 30:02Speaker 1: can help me when I'm underneath the influence of alcohol.
- 30:05Speaker 1: It's eleven thirty midnight. I've just seen the whole five
- 30:08Speaker 1: pizza and I mean and met ball sub and I
- 30:10Speaker 1: see the seventies sixes or minus seven against some terrible team,
- 30:13Speaker 1: and I'm like, you know what, let's put a grand
- 30:15Speaker 1: on it. This feels good. And then you wake up
- 30:16Speaker 1: the next morning You're just like, oh my god, why
- 30:19Speaker 1: did I just bet that amount of money on this
- 30:21Speaker 1: team that never covers as a favorite. So for me,
- 30:23Speaker 1: I would love if the action never I don't know
- 30:25Speaker 1: if it was like a breathalyzer or something, but something
- 30:27Speaker 1: that establishes that I'm sober and clear minded while I
- 30:30Speaker 1: make this bet that would be a great update to
- 30:32Speaker 1: the app. Pretty good, Pretty good, Colin, you're one of
- 30:36Speaker 1: the biggest followed experts in the app. You must have
- 30:39Speaker 1: a theory here. Well, First off, I disagree with Simon
- 30:42Speaker 1: because I think you should get achievement points and you
- 30:44Speaker 1: should unlock things when you're drunk and you go into breathalyzer.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Like you have achieved the ability to bet on a
- 30:50Speaker 1: YI football game at midnight, you have to be drunk
- 30:53Speaker 1: to watch that and bet on it. One of the
- 30:56Speaker 1: best ideas we could ever come up with is an
- 30:58Speaker 1: action bumble slash tender slash dating right where you hop
- 31:04Speaker 1: into the app a radius of fifty to a hundred
- 31:07Speaker 1: miles around you, you find other degenerates that want to gamble.
- 31:10Speaker 1: You left or right swipe them looking at squareness. I
- 31:13Speaker 1: want to bet against these people and take their money. Well,
- 31:15Speaker 1: he looks sharp. I'm gonna swipe left. He looks sharp.
- 31:18Speaker 1: I'm swiped. Oh this guy, I can take his money.
- 31:20Speaker 1: He's wearing the gear of the home team. I know
- 31:22Speaker 1: that he's gonna lay a stupid price. Action tender action bumble.
- 31:26Speaker 1: But for de generates to get together and do peer
- 31:28Speaker 1: to peer betting against each other. There's nobody who loves
- 31:31Speaker 1: to judge people on the surface more than me. This
- 31:35Speaker 1: is an incredible, incredible idea, Alex. You gotta redeem yourself here, man,
- 31:41Speaker 1: I'm going to dumb and dumber, totally double up the gloves,
- 31:45Speaker 1: redeem myself. Jack. You may get into a second strategic
- 31:49Speaker 1: partnership by the end of this ari e Gold pitch.
- 31:52Speaker 1: I just used it earlier. I talked about Chasing if
- 31:56Speaker 1: you could partner with Chase Inc Organic with it to
- 32:02Speaker 1: help people with lack of discipline. Not saying that's me,
- 32:06Speaker 1: but I'm saying that's me. When you start opening up
- 32:10Speaker 1: the live betting boom Chase protection, we don't want to
- 32:15Speaker 1: see you go broke, Chad. This is not only brilliant
- 32:19Speaker 1: your shark tank leaving money on the table right now.
- 32:22Speaker 1: This could be sign seal and delivered by the end
- 32:24Speaker 1: of the week. I will make the necessary calls on
- 32:27Speaker 1: a walk and talk until I closed the deal. I
- 32:30Speaker 1: won't sleep until I closed the deal. We gotta do
- 32:33Speaker 1: a deal for responsible gaming to get people to stop betting.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Is that what you're saying? That is absolutely not what
- 32:40Speaker 1: I'm saying. First of all, I didn't hear anybody else
- 32:43Speaker 1: bring in a brand to give me a little parlay
- 32:46Speaker 1: two for one on a sales pitch. It could be
- 32:49Speaker 1: a pop up, just letting people know. Like poor Simon
- 32:53Speaker 1: after a meatball sub, Hey man, do you really want
- 32:56Speaker 1: to chase his sixers minus seven? Personally think this is
- 32:59Speaker 1: bur I'm gonna go out and prove you wrong and
- 33:02Speaker 1: get them to say yes on this. If you don't
- 33:05Speaker 1: like the idea, chat, I'm gonna let you do that. Alex,
- 33:09Speaker 1: I am going to let you take this idea into
- 33:11Speaker 1: the market when you when you sell it, I'm going
- 33:13Speaker 1: to pay you big. I'm gonna let you get a
- 33:15Speaker 1: piece of the profits. The winner in this, of course,
- 33:19Speaker 1: it's got to be Simon who doesn't want like action Breathalyzer.
- 33:23Speaker 1: It's it's brilliant. Collins was spectacular. I'll take this up
- 33:27Speaker 1: with the product development team. All right, this is the
- 33:32Speaker 1: grand finale. Here is the current score. Colin is ahead
- 33:36Speaker 1: with ten points. Simon has eight points. Alex has five points.
- 33:40Speaker 1: But I have no idea at what point he actually got.
- 33:44Speaker 1: So the topic right now is greatest of all time.
- 33:47Speaker 1: How much would you like to risk? Please text your
- 33:51Speaker 1: wager amount to Matt Mitchell, you will wager from your
- 33:57Speaker 1: point total. Here's the question. A leve and sated Syracuse
- 34:01Speaker 1: is coached by Jim Behan, the longest tenure coach in
- 34:03Speaker 1: college basketball. The Orange promoted in the head coach on
- 34:06Speaker 1: April third, ninety six, just four days earlier in the
- 34:09Speaker 1: nineteen seventy six and C Double A championship game. This team,
- 34:15Speaker 1: considered by some to be the greatest college basketball team
- 34:18Speaker 1: of all time, crushed Michigan has six pointed favorites. They
- 34:21Speaker 1: remain the last undefeated champions in college basketball history. Who
- 34:26Speaker 1: is this team? Text producer Matt Mitchell with your answer, Simon,
- 34:35Speaker 1: tell me your wager and your answer. I wagered a
- 34:40Speaker 1: eight points of course. Uh. And when U c l
- 34:43Speaker 1: A Are you serious? Yeah, you're wrong, you have. I
- 34:48Speaker 1: try to give you every point in the world and
- 34:51Speaker 1: yet you blow it. In Alex, your answer, it's the
- 34:55Speaker 1: lusions in Neahusier, what did you wager? Since I'm half
- 35:02Speaker 1: the man Colin is on this program, I wagered all
- 35:06Speaker 1: of it. All right, Listen, you've got ten points right now.
- 35:10Speaker 1: If Colin did not wager at least one point or
- 35:14Speaker 1: he got the wrong answer somehow miraculously Alex Monico, He's
- 35:20Speaker 1: going to win this game. Colin, give me your wager.
- 35:25Speaker 1: Give me your answer. Well, Colin wagers seven points to
- 35:28Speaker 1: stay ahead of Simon from all of the pack. Twelve
- 35:30Speaker 1: flagging I've been getting in this whole entire episode. It
- 35:33Speaker 1: was quite a diversion by you, because this is a
- 35:35Speaker 1: Chad Millman run podcast, and no Chad Millman run podcast
- 35:39Speaker 1: ends without an answer being Indiana basketball. So I like
- 35:43Speaker 1: how you started off with Jim Beheim and you try
- 35:45Speaker 1: to like deflect with the year, but I know the
- 35:47Speaker 1: answer is going to be Indiana because it's you. I
- 35:54Speaker 1: had it typed into Mitchell before you even finished Indiana
- 35:57Speaker 1: seven points. So a lot of obfuscation went with Syracuse
- 36:02Speaker 1: early on your hundred percent rights. Indiana University. They went
- 36:05Speaker 1: undefeated in nineteen seventy six. They beat their Big Ten
- 36:08Speaker 1: rival in Michigan in the championship game. That was a
- 36:11Speaker 1: legendary college basketball team. Of course, thematically, what is Gonzaga
- 36:16Speaker 1: trying to do. They're trying to finish the season undefeated
- 36:19Speaker 1: and as n C double a college basketball champions All right, folks,
- 36:24Speaker 1: This has been the first edition of the Thursday Thunderdome,
- 36:27Speaker 1: and I want to thank you guys all for playing along.
- 36:29Speaker 1: Your answers were fun and funny and creative and credible
- 36:32Speaker 1: and really enjoyable. The winner Colin Wilson seventeen points. In
- 36:37Speaker 1: second place Alex Monico ten points, bringing up the rear
- 36:41Speaker 1: my bff with zero points because he goes all in,
