Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: He lets out this huge roar, right? Like, we just
- 0:02Speaker 1: won the game. He's celebrating. And then all of a sudden,
- 0:05Speaker 1: it's like, oh, man, I need to lock back in
- 0:07Speaker 1: right now. In the World Series. Welcome back to another
- 0:11Speaker 1: episode of Ross and Rizzo Unfiltered. I'm Anthony Rizzo with
- 0:14Speaker 1: my partner, David Ross. Rossi, Game 1 of the World Series.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Brewers winning 3-2. You were boots on the ground in Milwaukee.
- 0:26Speaker 1: How was it?
- 0:28Speaker 2: Buddy, it was.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Everything you expected roof was closed. It was a beautiful night,
- 0:34Speaker 3: but something to have there's it's crazy foggy here. So
- 0:36Speaker 3: they closed the roof, which made it extremely loud. I
- 0:39Speaker 3: went down to sit with a friend of mine that
- 0:41Speaker 3: used to watch our kids in Boston and for one inning,
- 0:45Speaker 3: and I had to go back up cause I thought
- 0:46Speaker 3: it was going to be horse.
- 0:47Speaker 2: It was, it was that loud in there. I was screaming.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Everybody stood up. I stood up the whole time I
- 0:51Speaker 3: was in the, in the stands. Um, it was electric
- 0:55Speaker 3: in there, man. Great atmosphere. Great start, the introductions. Shout
- 0:59Speaker 3: out Brandon Woodruff, who was on the roster and got
- 1:02Speaker 3: a huge ovation when they called him out. That was
- 1:05Speaker 3: really cool, seeing the journey of injuries he's gone through.
- 1:08Speaker 3: But yeah, man, great start. It feels like these two
- 1:12Speaker 3: teams are so identical, and the game kind of played
- 1:15Speaker 3: out like that. The timely hitting is the team that
- 1:17Speaker 3: I feel is going to win each game.
- 1:19Speaker 1: No doubt. How was it driving in? So Rossi was
- 1:21Speaker 1: with ESPN. He was doing pre- and post-game, did some
- 1:24Speaker 1: SportsCenter stuff. Sounded great, as you always do. How was
- 1:27Speaker 1: it driving in? How many Miller highlights did you see?
- 1:30Speaker 1: How many brats? Take me through the scene of the
- 1:34Speaker 1: parking lot there in Milwaukee.
- 1:36Speaker 3: First of all, thanks, Padna. I appreciate the compliments. There
- 1:41Speaker 3: was tailgating everywhere, and we got there, so we went
- 1:44Speaker 3: on early. We left the hotel at 1 o'clock for
- 1:47Speaker 3: the 8 o'clock game, so I was there most of
- 1:49Speaker 3: the day. Beautiful day. People out tailgating. The smoke from
- 1:53Speaker 3: all the grills were in full force.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Lines everywhere.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Were around the corner for every venue. I went down,
- 2:02Speaker 3: like I said, when I went down to see my friend,
- 2:04Speaker 3: the merch store, the memorabilia store, still had probably 40
- 2:08Speaker 3: people outside of it trying to get in. And this
- 2:10Speaker 3: is in like the sixth inning. It was packed everywhere.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Got some good food. They had these little food trucks
- 2:17Speaker 3: on one of the levels.
- 2:18Speaker 2: It was amazing. Got some barbecue, brisket, which was amazing.
- 2:23Speaker 2: It was... We had... We had the full experience in Milwaukee.
- 2:27Speaker 3: I didn't throw down a beer, which is maybe I'll
- 2:29Speaker 3: do that after I get off this pod and hang
- 2:31Speaker 3: with some of the buddies.
- 2:32Speaker 1: You got to get you a spot at Cal. Let's
- 2:33Speaker 1: get to the game, bro. Instant replay. Thank God. You
- 2:38Speaker 1: know what I mean? Like, ninth inning, one out. McGill
- 2:44Speaker 1: thinks he gets a double play to end the game.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Cash challenges. Pratt's foot comes off second base. It wasn't
- 2:52Speaker 1: a double play. They get it right. But what a letdown. Like,
- 2:57Speaker 1: talk to me through Trevor McGill's mental state there. He
- 3:00Speaker 1: lets out this huge roar, right? Like, we just won
- 3:03Speaker 1: the game. He's celebrating. And then all of a sudden
- 3:05Speaker 1: it's like, oh, man, I need to lock back in
- 3:08Speaker 1: right now. In the World Series.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Their whole team jumped the kind of rail. You know
- 3:12Speaker 3: you're on the top step. It's getting hairy. You get
- 3:15Speaker 3: the ground ball, double play, catcher running. It all is
- 3:18Speaker 3: kind of playing perfect. Bryce Durang, who's a phenomenal fielder,
- 3:21Speaker 3: going to win another gold glove this year. makes that
- 3:24Speaker 3: aggressive play, but what a play. Turn around, Pratt can't
- 3:28Speaker 3: stay on the base, and it literally looked like, I mean,
- 3:31Speaker 3: even if, I don't know how high definition it is
- 3:34Speaker 3: in New York, but it looked like there could still
- 3:36Speaker 3: be a spike on that thing. I mean, it was
- 3:37Speaker 3: like this close, and they got it right, and credit
- 3:40Speaker 3: to Cash for keeping his cool and not thinking it's over,
- 3:45Speaker 3: and they still had a chance to win it, but
- 3:47Speaker 3: Trevor McGill stepped up in the moment, punches out, the,
- 3:51Speaker 3: for the final out.
- 3:52Speaker 2: And it was just a crazy ninth man.
- 3:53Speaker 3: And I think, you know, I think somebody had said this,
- 3:56Speaker 3: it feels like every game is going to be like
- 3:59Speaker 3: this come the ninth inning. Somebody's gonna have to lock
- 4:01Speaker 3: it down. And the Brewers bullpen, man, with your rebate,
- 4:05Speaker 3: Aaron Ashby is absolutely filthy. I said this on air
- 4:08Speaker 3: is like, it reminds me of the run Andrew Miller
- 4:11Speaker 3: was on in 2016.
- 4:12Speaker 2: I mean, he was rolling through the post season.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Right. And, um, And Aaron Ashby's stuff is just so nasty,
- 4:22Speaker 3: and he was in cruise control out there. I thought,
- 4:25Speaker 3: you know, I know it's game one, but in the
- 4:27Speaker 3: back of my mind, is Murph going to let him
- 4:29Speaker 3: pitch the ninth again because he was so clean and dominant?
- 4:32Speaker 3: But goes to McGill and gets the win, man. The
- 4:36Speaker 3: place erupted. It was loud.
- 4:39Speaker 2: It was loud and fun.
- 4:40Speaker 3: There's something about the warm summer air and a cold
- 4:42Speaker 3: corona with Lyme that makes the roar of the crowd
- 4:45Speaker 3: sound a lot like the roar of the waves.
- 4:47Speaker 4: That's because this is our playa, and the best seats
- 4:50Speaker 4: are always wherever you're sitting.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Whether it's a weeknight game under the lights or a
- 4:53Speaker 3: Sunday afternoon in the sun, you know baseball isn't about
- 4:56Speaker 3: rushing around. It's about settling in, letting the game come
- 5:00Speaker 3: to you. And nothing pairs better than an ice-cold Corona.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Nothing.
- 5:05Speaker 4: So find your seat, your Corona, and your line, because
- 5:09Speaker 4: real fans know the only thing better than nine innings
- 5:13Speaker 4: is extra innings, especially on the playa.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Corona.
- 5:17Speaker 4: The play awaits.

- 5:31Speaker 2: What's up, guys?
- 5:32Speaker 3: I need to tell you about this new prediction market
- 5:34Speaker 3: called Polymarket. It's the best new way to trade in sports.
- 5:38Speaker 3: In the past, if you wanted action on the game,
- 5:40Speaker 3: you put some money in, and if your team was
- 5:42Speaker 3: doing well and you wanted to cash out, they'd lock
- 5:45Speaker 3: the trade and take a huge fee. But Polymarket is
- 5:48Speaker 3: a prediction market. It's a stock exchange for sports, buying
- 5:51Speaker 3: in and selling out on your terms. I've tried them all,
- 5:54Speaker 3: and Polymarket is simply the best prediction market. Better than DraftKings, FanDuel, Calshi,
- 6:00Speaker 3: you name it. They're so confident you'll never go back
- 6:03Speaker 3: to the other guys. They're giving you a free $ 25
- 6:05Speaker 3: on your first trade when you deposit just $ 10. And
- 6:07Speaker 3: now they've launched a new feature, Squads, a group chat
- 6:11Speaker 3: where you can see what everyone is trading. So download
- 6:14Speaker 3: the Polymarket app today and use the code RossRizzo when
- 6:17Speaker 3: you sign up. That's code RossRizzo and get $ 25 free
- 6:22Speaker 3: after you deposit just $ 10.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Yeah, we had Nick Martinez versus Jacob Mizorowski. Miz is
- 6:27Speaker 1: a good man. I mean, look, for all the kind
- 6:30Speaker 1: of narrative around him, he hasn't been the dominant ace.
- 6:33Speaker 1: He's been pitching well. And I know we talked about
- 6:35Speaker 1: that in our pregame show. He hasn't been that dominant ace,
- 6:38Speaker 1: but five innings, one run, maneuvering through, maybe he's he's gas.
- 6:43Speaker 1: He's never pitched as many innings in his life. This
- 6:45Speaker 1: is his second year in the big leagues, his first
- 6:48Speaker 1: full season. So Brewers have won all three games he's played.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Right.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Well, I thought he, I thought he put this guy
- 6:54Speaker 2: forward tonight. Yeah.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Well, like you, you get the guy who's led all
- 7:00Speaker 3: of baseball and strikeouts and he's been, he's going to
- 7:03Speaker 3: win the Cy Young best pitcher in the national league.
- 7:06Speaker 3: But his outings have been just not as clean, I
- 7:08Speaker 3: think in the post season. And it, and I said
- 7:10Speaker 3: this before, it was like, a youthfulness to his outings
- 7:15Speaker 3: in the postseason where just harnessing those emotions in that environment,
- 7:19Speaker 3: I think, is something.
- 7:20Speaker 2: That we learn, right?
- 7:22Speaker 3: And you know and I know because we had experience
- 7:25Speaker 3: in those moments, but we know the emotions that we
- 7:28Speaker 3: go through and how to harness those.
- 7:30Speaker 2: You've got to learn that.
- 7:31Speaker 3: And I think he's had a bunch of young moments
- 7:34Speaker 3: and going four and a third, I think, the last
- 7:37Speaker 3: two postseason starts. He didn't have a great postseason start
- 7:40Speaker 3: last year that was dominant. And I thought tonight he
- 7:43Speaker 3: looked way more poised, executing pitches, going deeper in the game.
- 7:47Speaker 3: He only had 78 pitches. I think Murph had him
- 7:50Speaker 3: at the top of the lineup. Yandy coming back up
- 7:52Speaker 3: after five, third time through, all those kind of analytical numbers.
- 7:56Speaker 3: But I thought he was really poised tonight. I didn't
- 8:00Speaker 3: know this going in, but one of our guys said
- 8:03Speaker 3: he had really struggled in the second inning was where
- 8:05Speaker 3: he was having some trouble.
- 8:06Speaker 2: He had such a clean second.
- 8:07Speaker 3: And I thought that just really kind of carried him into–
- 8:11Speaker 3: to the rest of his outing.
- 8:12Speaker 2: So really, really nice start for him. And then, and
- 8:14Speaker 2: then Nick Martinez rough first, right.
- 8:18Speaker 1: And settle down.
- 8:20Speaker 2: It settled down.
- 8:21Speaker 3: He gave up three hits in the first and only
- 8:22Speaker 3: two after that five innings and gave up those, those
- 8:27Speaker 3: big runs early on, but he settled in and, and,
- 8:29Speaker 3: and got out of some big jams, some nasty, nasty
- 8:31Speaker 3: pitches there. And some big critical moments that really stood
- 8:35Speaker 3: out to me.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Yeah, bro. You know who I'm so happy for is
- 8:38Speaker 1: Christian Yelich. They said on the broadcast, When Pat Murphy
- 8:42Speaker 1: at the end of the year named him captain, it
- 8:44Speaker 1: was the most meaningful thing in his career. And all
- 8:48Speaker 1: the work he's put in, he's won an MVP, he's
- 8:51Speaker 1: won batting titles. He's been an elite player for a
- 8:54Speaker 1: long time in the game. And for him to say
- 8:56Speaker 1: how meaningful that meant, especially through the year he's had,
- 8:59Speaker 1: it wasn't the best year, right? And he comes up,
- 9:03Speaker 1: his first at bat, he's been in the league, what,
- 9:07Speaker 1: 13 years?
- 9:08Speaker 2: 14 years he hadn't been to the World Series.
- 9:11Speaker 1: And first at bat, triple to get the Brew Crew rolling.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Pat Murphy hitting him third. He didn't hit third, I think.
- 9:20Speaker 1: The last time he hit third was the beginning of
- 9:21Speaker 1: August in that lineup. And Pat Murphy goes and hits
- 9:25Speaker 1: him third in Game 1 of the World Series. And
- 9:28Speaker 1: what an exhale for that dugout, right? That whole clubhouse,
- 9:33Speaker 1: the entire team. Him being the captain, him getting that
- 9:37Speaker 1: big hit, putting the team on the board with a
- 9:40Speaker 1: weak layoff, right? They get out of it. Miz gets
- 9:42Speaker 1: them through the first. They're up 2-0, bottom of the first. Like,
- 9:47Speaker 1: what a good moment for him, bro.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Great moment.
- 9:49Speaker 3: I think anybody that knows Christian Yelich and been around
- 9:51Speaker 3: him and watched the way he plays and how classy
- 9:54Speaker 3: he is was excited for him in that moment, I guess,
- 9:57Speaker 3: unless you're a Rays fan. But let me tell you
- 9:59Speaker 3: a cool story I heard at dinner last night. We
- 10:01Speaker 3: go to dinner over here at Ryan Braun's place, Carnivore,
- 10:04Speaker 3: and Tim Kirkson tells me before Yellich would accept the
- 10:12Speaker 3: captain tag, he called the former captain Robin Yount to
- 10:17Speaker 3: make sure he was okay with that.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Wow. Talking about a captain moment. Wow.
- 10:23Speaker 3: He's not only thinking about himself, he's thinking about the
- 10:25Speaker 3: people that have come before him, the history of the organization,
- 10:28Speaker 3: and the fact he was going to wear that seat.
- 10:31Speaker 2: That's respect. That's respect.
- 10:32Speaker 1: That's why, I mean, that's why, that's who he is.
- 10:34Speaker 2: That's why you like him even more now. Like, I
- 10:36Speaker 2: already like the guy, and you like him even more now.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Like, to do that was a, when Timmy told me
- 10:42Speaker 3: that story, it was like another feather in his cap.
- 10:45Speaker 2: That was cool. Yeah.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Bro, how about the Relay When Hamilton was going for
- 10:52Speaker 1: third by the race. I mean, you want to just
- 10:55Speaker 1: talk about good baseball? That's it right there.
- 10:58Speaker 3: This Gold Glove Player of the Week segment is brought
- 11:00Speaker 3: to you by Blue Chew, the number one brand for
- 11:02Speaker 3: better sex. If you want to perform like a champ,
- 11:05Speaker 3: go to bluechew.com.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Check out this relay.
- 11:12Speaker 1: This is a nice swing right there. Nice short swing.
- 11:19Speaker 2: One of the fastest players in the game. Victor Mesa Jr. Oh,
- 11:22Speaker 2: there's the stumble that cost him. And a clean relay
- 11:25Speaker 2: to get a great tag. Boom! Caminero Jr. loves it.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I love his emotion. What a play, bro.
- 11:32Speaker 3: One of the fastest players in David Hamilton. Hits the
- 11:36Speaker 3: ball down the line. You got probably one of the
- 11:38Speaker 3: best arms in the outfield. And Victor Mesa Jr. And
- 11:43Speaker 3: a perfect catch and throw relay. Hamilton stumbles a little
- 11:48Speaker 3: bit around second, probably cost him one out. You're supposed
- 11:50Speaker 3: to push the envelope there.
- 11:52Speaker 2: He's fast.
- 11:52Speaker 3: He gets that on any other team. He probably is
- 11:56Speaker 3: safe at third base. But the Rays fundamentally sound good baseball.
- 12:01Speaker 3: That's why I feel like these two teams are so
- 12:03Speaker 3: evenly matched and they're so similar that there's great defensive plays.
- 12:09Speaker 3: I mean, how about on Yelich's triple? DeLuca almost caught
- 12:13Speaker 3: that damn ball.
- 12:15Speaker 2: That was insane. It was insane.
- 12:17Speaker 1: I mean, he catches that ball. It's a whole different game, really.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Yeah. Right? Yeah, for sure. For sure.
- 12:22Speaker 3: And Nick Martinez is one of the best. So another one,
- 12:25Speaker 3: it's so fun to do games because you get these
- 12:26Speaker 3: little nuggets.
- 12:27Speaker 2: He was one of the.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Best, I think, top four or five starters in ERA
- 12:32Speaker 3: throughout the season in the first inning, and that was
- 12:34Speaker 3: his worst inning tonight.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Really?
- 12:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:37Speaker 1: I mean, that's playoff baseball. That's October baseball there.
- 12:40Speaker 2: There you go.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Which is crazy because them not going with Rasmussen– in
- 12:46Speaker 1: Game 1, right? We thought for sure. I understand it
- 12:52Speaker 1: in so many different ways. My take on it is
- 12:56Speaker 1: Freddie Peralta did not want to throw Game 2 in Milwaukee.
- 13:01Speaker 1: He'd rather throw Game 3 in Tampa, right? So, by
- 13:08Speaker 1: moving Rasmussen back one game, there's no story of Peralta, right?
- 13:13Speaker 1: Because I know Cash came out and said, oh, we're
- 13:15Speaker 1: just giving him an extra day. You don't get extra
- 13:17Speaker 1: days in the playoffs. There's no such thing as extra days, right?
- 13:21Speaker 1: And I'm not, like, calling out Cash here, but it's just,
- 13:27Speaker 1: unless he's hurt, right, unless he's grinding, which he very
- 13:30Speaker 1: well could be, it's October 23rd, right? So that was just, like,
- 13:36Speaker 1: head-scratching because Peralta went there earlier in the year and
- 13:38Speaker 1: got lit up a little bit. He loves pitching at
- 13:40Speaker 1: the Trop. If Rasmussen throws game one and they move
- 13:44Speaker 1: Peralta to game three, that becomes a huge headline.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't know. Well, here's my take.
- 13:49Speaker 3: So, one, like you said, the manager knows the team best,
- 13:53Speaker 3: and if they need maybe an extra day, he kind
- 13:56Speaker 3: of explained in his press conference the reason why. But
- 13:59Speaker 3: watching the game and being boots on the ground, here's
- 14:02Speaker 3: what you don't see. Freddy Peralta headed to the bullpen
- 14:06Speaker 3: with the closer in the third or fourth inning.
- 14:10Speaker 2: So, I would assume.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. You can see it on the broadcast.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Yeah, they did say that?
- 14:16Speaker 1: No, they did not.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Oh, so I watched him walk in between innings. You
- 14:20Speaker 3: know how the closure goes late? And so he walked
- 14:22Speaker 3: out there with it, and I'm like, wait a minute.
- 14:24Speaker 2: It's his side day.
- 14:25Speaker 3: He's probably going to throw an inning if they get
- 14:28Speaker 3: the lead. Obviously, they never took the lead, so he's
- 14:31Speaker 3: not going to spin that bullet. But I was thinking
- 14:34Speaker 3: maybe they're throwing him there to bridge it to some
- 14:38Speaker 3: other guys in the bullpen.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:40Speaker 1: I do like Cash, how he managed that game. He
- 14:45Speaker 1: showed no panic, in my opinion. It's almost... I know
- 14:52Speaker 1: the Brewers won this game, right? But the Rays have...
- 14:59Speaker 1: They chinked the armor a little bit, I feel like,
- 15:01Speaker 1: in McGill. To where that ninth inning was, you're on
- 15:05Speaker 1: your feet. And now, if tomorrow McGill's in the game again,
- 15:09Speaker 1: and they they clip him for a run or two.
- 15:11Speaker 1: He hasn't given up a run yet. Then, what does
- 15:14Speaker 1: Pat Murphy do? You know what I mean? That's two
- 15:16Speaker 1: games in a row. They're like, oh shit. You know
- 15:18Speaker 1: what I mean? So, it's just, that's something to watch
- 15:21Speaker 1: for because the Rays are, the Rays are in that
- 15:24Speaker 1: clubhouse today feeling good about themselves saying, look, this is
- 15:27Speaker 1: our team. We lost the game. We still fought. That's
- 15:29Speaker 1: who we are. And the Brewers, on the other hand,
- 15:32Speaker 1: are just riding that high still. They still have yet
- 15:34Speaker 1: to really be punched in the face. They were the
- 15:37Speaker 1: better team tonight. They got the big hits, but, Just
- 15:40Speaker 1: something to look for in game two.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Boy, we didn't even see that what's so impressive about
- 15:44Speaker 3: the Brewers' bullpen is Jojo Romero didn't throw in either
- 15:51Speaker 3: the D.L. Hall.
- 15:51Speaker 2: So, like, they've got more arms down there.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Oh, they're nasty, bro.
- 15:56Speaker 2: They're nasty, and they're so deep.
- 15:58Speaker 1: You have to score. When you get your opportunities, you
- 16:01Speaker 1: have to score. Caminero in the ninth inning. This is
- 16:05Speaker 1: his second year in the big leagues, Rossi, right?
- 16:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so, yeah.
- 16:09Speaker 1: The fact that he had that good of an at-bat,
- 16:11Speaker 1: the poise he had there, even taking the 1-0 pitch
- 16:15Speaker 1: fastball in, you see so many young players trying to
- 16:20Speaker 1: swing out of their ass on that pitch and have
- 16:23Speaker 1: their moment. And that just tells me how advanced and
- 16:28Speaker 1: mature he is as a young player, not trying to
- 16:31Speaker 1: hit the 10-run home run. You know what I mean?
- 16:35Speaker 1: He's just up there taking his at-bat.
- 16:37Speaker 2: He walked fast.
- 16:38Speaker 1: In a huge situation, he takes his walk. That is
- 16:41Speaker 1: so hard to do. And any young player out there,
- 16:45Speaker 1: seeing that and him keeping his poise is one of
- 16:47Speaker 1: the most impressive at-bats of the game.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Well, and how about the Rays stealing second, third?
- 16:53Speaker 2: Now you're like, now your ball gets super tight. Yeah,
- 16:55Speaker 2: fearless too, bro.
- 16:57Speaker 1: I mean, they get thrown out twice, which is a
- 17:00Speaker 1: perfect segue to our playa of the game.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Playa!
- 17:06Speaker 1: Our Corona Playa of the game, William Contreras, two for
- 17:10Speaker 1: three with an RBI single, and a walk through two
- 17:13Speaker 1: base runners out was nasty.
- 17:17Speaker 3: First of all, I mean, again, I hate going to
- 17:20Speaker 3: negative town, but what was Victor Mesa Jr. doing with
- 17:24Speaker 3: Yandy Diaz, second base, two outs.
- 17:28Speaker 1: And Mesa's only given up three stolen bases in, his career,
- 17:32Speaker 1: his two years.
- 17:33Speaker 2: What are we.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Like, that was a head-scratcher. He's probably caught up in
- 17:38Speaker 1: the moment trying to make something happen, right?
- 17:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:45Speaker 2: It was probably the only, like, real bad.
- 17:47Speaker 3: I mean, the other throwout was Chandler Simpson, who never
- 17:52Speaker 3: strikes out, right? 3-2, so you're running on with a
- 17:56Speaker 3: contact guy. Totally understand that. And William Contreras, playa of
- 18:00Speaker 3: the game. makes an amazing throw with Chandler Simpson falling
- 18:05Speaker 3: over the home plate. He has to throw over the batter.
- 18:07Speaker 3: That's one of the hardest ones for a catcher is
- 18:09Speaker 3: when that guy's falling over.
- 18:10Speaker 2: You don't feel like you release it all the way.
- 18:12Speaker 3: And he makes a spectacular throw to catch another guy
- 18:17Speaker 3: trying to seal a base.
- 18:19Speaker 2: That first one is third. That was a head-scratcher. But
- 18:22Speaker 2: shout-out William Contreras for playa.
- 18:25Speaker 1: You know what I love, too? I love Murph in-game
- 18:28Speaker 1: when they interview Murph and they're saying how– you know,
- 18:31Speaker 1: how Miz is doing. And he's like, you got to
- 18:33Speaker 1: give credit to William Contreras, man. He's, he's such a leader,
- 18:36Speaker 1: their relationship. He guides him through games. He talks pitching
- 18:40Speaker 1: to him all the time. And then Miz after the
- 18:42Speaker 1: game saying how, uh, he's such a leader in the clubhouse.
- 18:46Speaker 1: So that's, that's just good stuff. You want to hear
- 18:48Speaker 1: from the catcher?
- 18:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Hey, it's post-season the catchers, Rossi. It's the post-season. Starts
- 18:53Speaker 1: with two hits and a walk. It's a pretty good
- 18:55Speaker 1: Pretty good start to the postseason.
- 18:57Speaker 3: We had one of our producer guys for ESPN was
- 19:01Speaker 3: already crowning him the MVP. I'm like, hey, we got
- 19:03Speaker 3: a long way to go.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Let's chill.
- 19:05Speaker 3: But I'm all about giving the catchers the love. But
- 19:08Speaker 3: let's chill for a minute.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Every little mistake in this game cost them, right?
- 19:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:14Speaker 1: DeLuca, diving play, just missed that ball, right? Hit his glove.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Should have made the play. He'll tell you he makes
- 19:21Speaker 1: that play most of the time. Mitchell in center field,
- 19:25Speaker 1: that missile off Cameron Arrow's bat.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Missile. Right?
- 19:29Speaker 1: Froze for a second.
- 19:30Speaker 2: That's one of the hardest balls I've ever seen hit live.
- 19:33Speaker 2: That ball was smoked.
- 19:35Speaker 1: In 2017, Rossi, looking back, 2017, I remember outfielders taking
- 19:45Speaker 1: these weird routes to balls and misplaying balls, and I'm like,
- 19:50Speaker 1: big leaguers. Dave McKay, first base coach for the Cubbies
- 19:54Speaker 1: back in the day, long time first base coach, amazing
- 19:56Speaker 1: first base coach, said big leaguers do not misfly balls.
- 20:00Speaker 1: That was a missile line drive. But it had me
- 20:03Speaker 1: thinking back in 17, 18, 19 when the balls were jumping.
- 20:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:09Speaker 1: The outfielders were misreading balls. And the fact that Mitchell
- 20:12Speaker 1: misread that ball like that, I was like, Ooh, that
- 20:14Speaker 1: ball had a little extra life to it. It seemed like, right.
- 20:19Speaker 2: I'm getting a little suspicious. Yeah.
- 20:23Speaker 1: But again, like David Hamilton, game of inches, Victor Mesa
- 20:28Speaker 1: throws them out. What a play, man. That was, that
- 20:30Speaker 1: was exciting. That's exciting. Baseball for me.
- 20:32Speaker 3: That's a good baseball to evenly matched teams. I can't
- 20:35Speaker 3: wait for game two. And that leads me. to my
- 20:40Speaker 3: polymarket pick. Raise 45% to the yes. $ 100 gets you
- 20:44Speaker 3: back $ 214. And the Brewers, 55% to the yes and
- 20:49Speaker 3: $ 100 gets you $ 175. I really like Drew Rasmussen. I
- 20:54Speaker 3: think he's an absolute stud. He's been one of the
- 20:56Speaker 3: best pitchers this postseason. I got him having a big
- 20:59Speaker 3: game and tying this thing up for the raise.
- 21:02Speaker 2: 1-1.
- 21:03Speaker 3: The top of that lineup hit. I know Yandy Diaz didn't,
- 21:06Speaker 3: but Chandler Simpson had two knocks.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Johnny Diaz had good at-bats, though, bro. His first two at-bats,
- 21:10Speaker 1: he hit the ball well.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Yeah, Aranda, yeah, he had two line drives. Aranda, three
- 21:15Speaker 3: for three with a walk. Like, they're feeling pretty good.
- 21:18Speaker 3: They're kind of in rhythm and carrying over that better
- 21:22Speaker 3: offense at the top from the last series with Cleveland. So,
- 21:26Speaker 3: bottom of the lineup did not perform as well, but
- 21:28Speaker 3: the top of the lineup is where I feel like
- 21:30Speaker 3: they need to– that kind of carries that offense, and
- 21:33Speaker 3: that is why I'm taking– The Tampa Bay Rays.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, hey, we both took the Rays the
- 21:39Speaker 1: first game.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Both lost.
- 21:42Speaker 1: I'm sticking with you. I think the Rays win tomorrow
- 21:44Speaker 1: and the series starts in Tampa.
- 21:47Speaker 2: I love that.
- 21:48Speaker 1: That's my prediction there. I think that the Rays, tomorrow
- 21:54Speaker 1: is a must win, I feel like, for the Rays. Obviously,
- 21:57Speaker 1: every game is a must win. It's a seven-game series.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Going down 2-0, the odds are against you, but if
- 22:03Speaker 1: they win tomorrow, then they That's really the first time
- 22:07Speaker 1: I feel like Milwaukee's getting punched in the face in
- 22:09Speaker 1: this playoffs, and the Rays need to do that.
- 22:11Speaker 3: And the Brewers have been so hot, to your point.
- 22:13Speaker 3: They've been so hot and rolled through. It feels like
- 22:15Speaker 3: they've rolled through the postseason, only losing one game to
- 22:21Speaker 3: San Diego. So they've been so dominant.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Yeah, congrats to the Brewers fans, man. Congrats to Milwaukee,
- 22:30Speaker 1: the organization. Looked like just an unbelievable night there.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Bro, this whole city.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Played a lot of games there.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Remember Chicago when we were in the World Series? The
- 22:38Speaker 3: whole city was kind of lit up. It just felt
- 22:40Speaker 3: like there was an energy about the city. Everybody's wearing
- 22:42Speaker 3: a coat and stuff. I walked down today to get
- 22:44Speaker 3: breakfast down that third ward area and my coffee spot
- 22:47Speaker 3: that I love. And there was Brewer's stuff everywhere. People
- 22:52Speaker 3: were rocking jerseys. I saw Ben Sheets' jersey. I was, like,
- 22:55Speaker 3: fired up. I played with him in Atlanta. Like, just
- 22:58Speaker 3: old school.
- 22:59Speaker 2: They had all the guys.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Out.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Jenkins was getting them fired up. Ryan Braun did a
- 23:04Speaker 3: pregame thing. This place has got a good buzz about
- 23:08Speaker 3: it right now here in Milwaukee.
- 23:10Speaker 1: My first manager, I was actually going over this. I
- 23:14Speaker 1: played in Chicago for 10 years. I had four managers.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Isn't that wild?
- 23:18Speaker 1: Anyways, my first manager, Dale Swaim, played for the Brewers.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Can't fire the players.
- 23:27Speaker 1: He said no matter what, in all these big games,
- 23:32Speaker 1: he almost guarantees you the winning run or the tying
- 23:36Speaker 1: run will come to the plate in the ninth inning
- 23:38Speaker 1: all the time. And every time the ninth inning, the
- 23:41Speaker 1: tying run or winning run comes to the plate, I
- 23:43Speaker 1: always think of Dale Swayman.
- 23:44Speaker 2: That pops in your head.
- 23:46Speaker 1: Him playing at Milwaukee, I was thinking.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Of him more tonight.
- 23:49Speaker 1: We got our boy Kenny Chesney going on tour next summer, Rossi.

- 24:50Speaker 3: I've been to that one. Maybe we'll have to have
- 24:53Speaker 3: a meeting in Chicago, maybe a podcast from Chicago.

- 26:21Speaker 1: You can email us at rossandrizzo at gmail.com. Our first
- 26:26Speaker 1: is a YouTube comment from JeerXIX. The Super Bowl is
- 26:31Speaker 1: known for its intense two weeks of media coverage. With
- 26:35Speaker 1: the World Series starting only a few days after the
- 26:37Speaker 1: end of the CS, how much does it ramp up
- 26:40Speaker 1: the World Series?
- 26:41Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 26:41Speaker 3: The amount of people that I saw. I was almost
- 26:44Speaker 3: tired before the game started. I saw everybody... in Major
- 26:48Speaker 3: League Baseball. I've locked in with Rob Manford, a couple
- 26:52Speaker 3: of his right-hand men, all the guys in MLB Network
- 26:54Speaker 3: that you know and work with, PV, Damp, Millar, me
- 26:58Speaker 3: and Adam Jones locked in.
- 27:00Speaker 2: I saw Dex today. Dex is here.
- 27:02Speaker 3: Of course, Dex only shows up when it's big-time moments.
- 27:07Speaker 2: It was great seeing him.
- 27:09Speaker 3: Borzy is here. Hyder's here. I mean, all our, I mean,
- 27:14Speaker 3: so many, so many, I saw so many players today.
- 27:16Speaker 3: I can't even name them all. And then people with MLB.
- 27:18Speaker 2: It was so great.
- 27:20Speaker 1: All on the field too.
- 27:21Speaker 2: Phil, Phil Roswich came out like to say, Hey, he
- 27:25Speaker 2: was awesome. Yeah. All on the track. I saw Saito.
- 27:29Speaker 3: He's doing a pitcher that I play with in Atlanta.
- 27:33Speaker 3: He's doing TV for Japan. Like it, like I saw
- 27:36Speaker 3: everybody is literally everybody.
- 27:38Speaker 2: That I've ever known in baseball is here. And it's,
- 27:41Speaker 2: It's a packed house.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Media day yesterday and all the people around the track,
- 27:45Speaker 3: it was busy.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Yeah, so every round it gets, there's more media and
- 27:50Speaker 1: more media.
- 27:52Speaker 2: For me in.
- 27:53Speaker 1: The World Series, I didn't take batting practice one time
- 27:56Speaker 1: in the World Series. I was just like, it's a
- 27:59Speaker 1: circus act out there. When you walk out there as
- 28:01Speaker 1: a player, it's so hard to keep your normal routine.
- 28:05Speaker 1: And these are the biggest games. So I just did
- 28:07Speaker 1: my routine in the cage every game of the World Series.
- 28:09Speaker 1: I didn't go out there one time. I went out
- 28:11Speaker 1: there to peak just to see the soap opera, and
- 28:14Speaker 1: then I went right back in. Yeah, it gets busy.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Good question.
- 28:19Speaker 1: It's a lot.
- 28:20Speaker 3: Next email from Joe Amoroso. He is a second time.
- 28:25Speaker 3: He asked a question a few episodes ago.
- 28:27Speaker 2: Great show, guys.
- 28:28Speaker 3: My sons Nick and Jack listen along and have a
- 28:31Speaker 3: question for you. Have you ever been starstruck by meeting anyone? Also,
- 28:36Speaker 3: do you have a prized piece of memorabilia you have
- 28:39Speaker 3: received or kept?
- 28:40Speaker 2: From your own career?
- 28:41Speaker 1: Ooh, you know what? The other day, Rossi, I was
- 28:46Speaker 1: on the Today Show before the wildcard games and Sylvester
- 28:51Speaker 1: Stallone was there. And he was there and we did
- 28:56Speaker 1: our whole Rocky skit in 2016. And, you know, he's
- 29:00Speaker 1: been in a thousand movies, Rocky, like literally. And my
- 29:05Speaker 1: mom calls me or texts me before. She said, hey,
- 29:07Speaker 1: did you meet Rocky, that's what she texted me.
- 29:10Speaker 2: I'm like, what?
- 29:10Speaker 1: I didn't even realize he was here. I look up
- 29:12Speaker 1: and I'm like, oh shit. So I'm outside waiting to
- 29:15Speaker 1: do my hit and he walks right by me and
- 29:17Speaker 1: I froze. I was like, and I got, and I
- 29:21Speaker 1: just walked, I just moved out of his way.
- 29:22Speaker 2: I was so struck. You should have given him the speech.
- 29:27Speaker 1: I know, bro.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Bro, you should have given him the speech.
- 29:30Speaker 3: I gotta tell you a story about I used your lines.
- 29:32Speaker 3: You should have, that would have been amazing. It's, man,
- 29:35Speaker 3: you get stuck. I was in LA and then like,
- 29:38Speaker 3: Tom Cruise would come in. All these people would come
- 29:40Speaker 3: in Like big time actors and actresses But I had
- 29:43Speaker 3: like the biggest crush On Jennifer Love Hewitt When I
- 29:47Speaker 3: was younger And she came in and I was like
- 29:52Speaker 3: Can I get a picture I was just like I
- 29:55Speaker 3: took a picture and said nothing I was like thanks
- 29:57Speaker 3: and left What year was this This is, I think, 2003, 2004.
- 30:00Speaker 2: So you had to get.
- 30:03Speaker 1: The team photographer for a picture?
- 30:05Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. John Suhu.
- 30:06Speaker 1: There's no flip phones.
- 30:08Speaker 3: John Suhu. John Suhu took the photo. And I was just, like,
- 30:13Speaker 3: fumbling all over. Like, I wanted to, like, ask questions.
- 30:16Speaker 3: I didn't even know what to say.
- 30:17Speaker 2: No game. No game. Zero. Brutal.
- 30:21Speaker 3: Absolutely brutal. I'll tell you what, though. Memorabilia-wise, a cool
- 30:25Speaker 3: thing I have that I cherish... Um, we took that
- 30:28Speaker 3: golf trip in 2016 that Lester took me on that
- 30:31Speaker 3: we talked about. And I have that scorecard from our
- 30:35Speaker 3: guys and everybody signed at UKB and it's hanging up
- 30:39Speaker 3: in my, it's one of those cool things that I
- 30:41Speaker 3: think is like important to me, you know, and from my,
- 30:45Speaker 3: the boys and that special trip, um, that, and I've
- 30:49Speaker 3: got the scouting report from game seven and the wristband and, uh,
- 30:53Speaker 3: that I have from that, which is like, I think
- 30:55Speaker 3: it's just, I flip back through that stuff and I
- 30:57Speaker 3: love the wording and all the notes I wrote down.
- 31:00Speaker 2: It's just really cool memorabilia piece for me.
- 31:03Speaker 1: Yeah, for me, the memorabilia piece, I didn't really, I
- 31:08Speaker 1: wasn't really big on the memorabilia stuff. I mean, I
- 31:10Speaker 1: have Lester, Siamese stuff. You know what? As I go
- 31:14Speaker 1: grab this, I'll give you just a peek of some
- 31:16Speaker 1: of the memorabilia I have here, Rossi.
- 31:17Speaker 2: Don't leave me.
- 31:19Speaker 1: I want to show you something.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Where's my partner?
- 31:22Speaker 1: This right here, Rossi, means the most to me. This
- 31:26Speaker 1: is my Cooperstown.
- 31:29Speaker 3: Pins.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Oh, that's cool. When I went to Cooperstown as an 11-year-old,
- 31:34Speaker 1: I have all the pins that I collected. So I
- 31:38Speaker 1: actually am going to frame this and put it in
- 31:40Speaker 1: my son's room and hang it for him. And then
- 31:44Speaker 1: hopefully he can go.
- 31:46Speaker 2: That's a really cool piece. You know what they gave
- 31:49Speaker 2: us tonight that I thought was really cool?
- 31:52Speaker 3: We're in the auxiliary press box, and the Brewers gave
- 31:56Speaker 3: us a World Series Brewers pin.
- 31:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I would throw that out if I was you,
- 32:00Speaker 1: but that's just me.
- 32:01Speaker 2: No, I think it's pretty cool.
- 32:02Speaker 3: I would probably put it on my daughter's board or
- 32:04Speaker 3: something for her, but I'm.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Like, I can't rock this. It's very cool to me.
- 32:09Speaker 2: That's for the organization to give those to all the
- 32:12Speaker 2: media members. I thought it was really, really neat.
- 32:14Speaker 1: Yeah, very cool.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Very cool.
- 32:17Speaker 1: All right, let's get to our last email from Jonathan Redwine.
- 32:21Speaker 1: I grew up wearing 44 because of Riz. It's now
- 32:25Speaker 1: a number used in my passwords. Okay, Jonathan. So Jonathan Redwine.
- 32:30Speaker 2: 44.
- 32:31Speaker 1: How did you end up with 44? Jonathan, I ended
- 32:36Speaker 1: up with 44. My first spring training was Chicago. Otis Hellman,
- 32:44Speaker 1: Tom Otis Hellman, legend in the game. was our clubhouse manager.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Rest in peace, Tom. We miss you. Otis passed away
- 32:52Speaker 1: a few years ago, but was in the game for
- 32:54Speaker 1: 50 years. And he came up to me and he goes, hey, kid,
- 33:00Speaker 1: I gave you number 44. That was Hank Aaron's number.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Hopefully you can live up to be like him. I
- 33:05Speaker 1: was like, oh, thanks, Otis. That's awesome, right? So he
- 33:09Speaker 1: just put it in my locker and chose it for me.
- 33:11Speaker 1: And I just, I always remember that story of him
- 33:14Speaker 1: telling me why he gave me that number. I was like, okay, well,
- 33:17Speaker 1: If I could be half of Hank Aaron, I'll take that.
- 33:20Speaker 1: So no pressure.
- 33:21Speaker 2: No doubt.
- 33:22Speaker 3: What was your first spring training jersey number?
- 33:24Speaker 2: Do you remember that one?
- 33:26Speaker 1: No. I always wanted to be... It had to be
- 33:30Speaker 1: like in the 70s, I think.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I was 86. I'll never forget that.
- 33:34Speaker 3: Really?
- 33:34Speaker 1: Yeah, it's because they were sending your ass out quick.
- 33:37Speaker 2: You were 86. Yeah, because I was there to catch bullpens.
- 33:40Speaker 2: My first big league. I was there to catch bullpens.
- 33:42Speaker 2: I had number 86.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Like, who are you?
- 33:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I... I wanted to be number 21. That was
- 33:49Speaker 1: my goal because I was young. That was my high
- 33:51Speaker 1: school number. And my goal was to be in the
- 33:53Speaker 1: big leagues by 21. And it was a realistic goal.
- 33:56Speaker 2: Oh, that's sick.
- 33:58Speaker 1: And then when I got called up to San Diego,
- 34:00Speaker 1: they just gave me number 27, which I loved because
- 34:02Speaker 1: that was the rock star number. You know, like 27
- 34:04Speaker 1: is a rock star number. That's what they say. But
- 34:07Speaker 1: that didn't plan out at all. Like 27, not a
- 34:09Speaker 1: good number.
- 34:11Speaker 2: You got traded again. Yeah. 21 was my high school
- 34:14Speaker 2: and college number. Rossi, I will pay you.
- 34:16Speaker 1: I will pay you any amount of money right now
- 34:18Speaker 1: if you can name all of your jerseys numbers that
- 34:22Speaker 1: you wore. Oh, man.
- 34:24Speaker 2: No chance. No chance.
- 34:26Speaker 1: I know you were number three. Where were you in Boston?
- 34:29Speaker 2: Three in Boston, three in Chicago.
- 34:31Speaker 3: That was my two World Series numbers, so I feel
- 34:33Speaker 3: like that's my lucky number. I was 21 in high
- 34:35Speaker 3: school and college. I came up with the Dodgers. I
- 34:41Speaker 3: was 40. Number 40 was my big league jersey with
- 34:44Speaker 3: the Dodgers. I would Went to Pittsburgh, 29. From Pittsburgh,
- 34:50Speaker 3: I went to San Diego and was, I think I
- 34:57Speaker 3: was number nine. I got to fact check. I think
- 35:00Speaker 3: I was number nine. And then I went to Cincinnati.
- 35:04Speaker 2: I was 26. Then Boston. I don't know.
- 35:08Speaker 3: My first time in Boston, I don't think I was
- 35:11Speaker 3: number three the first time. So I got, oh, Atlanta, I.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Was number eight.
- 35:16Speaker 3: That was a cool one. I was like, Javi, that's
- 35:18Speaker 3: the number I grew up watching him.
- 35:20Speaker 2: But a lot of teams.
- 35:20Speaker 3: And my first time in Boston, I don't remember that number.
- 35:22Speaker 3: I think it was 2026 again or something.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Yeah. Was that 28 is what I was? Yeah.
- 35:31Speaker 1: That's pretty good.
- 35:32Speaker 2: Not bad. Not bad.
- 35:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I usually forget like the 26 and 29 ones
- 35:36Speaker 3: is like the ones that were hard to remember.
- 35:38Speaker 2: That's great.
- 35:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Well, thank you.
- 35:40Speaker 2: Too many jerseys.
