- 1:10[SPEAKER_03]: They didn't listen to it, then they didn't hear it.

- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's taken 665 episodes.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to realize, maybe this is the first one.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why you didn't listen to it.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I shouldn't say you fucking missed out because like, your new, how would you know?
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: So welcome.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_01]: This is not what my noise normally sounds like.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't know my sound like I'm on the brink of a sneeze.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: But I have a sign of stitch.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: And
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: Here we are.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: We are going to while you're listening to this.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: We are in Europe and we have to record these things early and so we can't wait any longer.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_01]: This is how it's going to be.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: So dig around.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_03]: That's true.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: It does get better than this.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's basically just that sounds less easily.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: Today is April 9th and it's nationally unicorn date.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: You're fucking welcome.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_03]: You are very welcome.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_03]: There was a little unicorn.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: There are other days that we can celebrate, but I mean, come on.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, National Unicorn Day is a day to celebrate the most popular mythical creature ever.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: Why?
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: Because if we don't take time to celebrate a beautiful horn, rainbow printed mythical creature, then we're most definitely missing a trick.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's a trick.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: I would be missing an out.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_02]: Let me see how.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's amazing.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: Now, the unicorn is a symbol of happiness, fantasy, and wonder.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's an icon of color of child like splendor and magic.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: They often make appearances on birthday cakes and children's clothing, and let's be honest, white a lot of us adults still dig them to.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, hello, my Lisa Frank, Hey, Bob!
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: At least the Frank people, I love you.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: I probably have as a tattoo because adults need stickers too.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: National Unicorn Day is your chance to express some unicorn love.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: So show some color and delve into the magnificance of unicorns with us.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_03]: No, we're saying that word one more time.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_01]: Show some color and delve into the magnificance.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_03]: That's the word.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_03]: Take three.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: Keep slacking.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: A-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: I have a bright yellow box, like a pizza box size.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: That my dad gave me a gift and on my 40 first birthday.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's my 40th birthday.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: Probably my 41st.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, in front of everybody, before I had ordered a drink, I just want to put that there.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: We're out of bar, but I have not had a drink.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: So we can't blame on anything.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_01]: my dad answered this gift and it has words on the front and break us what is it say and I said it says keep soccer and Brad is like you know I was upside down and I was like it's not what it's said I read it and I was like hmm try again I said keep soccer like hello I'm reading it keep soccer he's like you want to draw that one more time and I'm like it says keep soccer and it's Brad said what does it say babe?
- 4:14[SPEAKER_03]: Definitely says Keepsake.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: Keepsake.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but we'll go with Keepsake.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: Now anyone who is there understands how hilarious it was and signs up all text messages to me.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: Keepsake.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: I want to frame it so bad.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't know that I got to do it anyways, keepsake.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: All right, you guys were on vacation right now.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know why you're not, but we are we are somewhere in France, but we're going to see you very soon.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: If you are in London at POT.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we're celebrating our 10 year anniversary actually.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, we are decided to take some time on it's actually the exact dates that we did our honeymoon 10 years ago, so it is we're going to mark
- 4:52[SPEAKER_03]: of 2016.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_03]: Holy cow.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_01]: You didn't know.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: That's why I said it's our second honeymoon because it's the same time.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_03]: You're totally right.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_03]: It's 10 years out of the first honeymoon.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_03]: I know.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_03]: Amazing.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't even put that together.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_03]: Incredible.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_03]: Well, we are going to be London next week or actually hold on today is the night.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_03]: So in like two or three days, we're going to be at your team.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_01]: We're literally on a train from Paris.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: London in this moment.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_03]: In this exact moment, we are traveling underwater.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: That's what they say.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_01]: So if you want to see us, if there's any tickets left, you're going to go to xxll.co slash pot.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just in case you're wondering, it's xx not excess xx letters.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_03]: And then kiss kiss hug hug xx and L L because we thought that was cute.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, after that, we're heading back home.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to be back in Vegas for Spring Training.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_03]: Spring Training is with online Pilatescloths.com.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_03]: We love to call OPC and we do an annual event.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know me, we do an annual annual event.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_03]: This is called Spring Training.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_03]: And this year, it's all about getting upside down.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, OPC members, it's free for you.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_03]: Free for OPC members.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: If you're not an OPC member, you're
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: missing out.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just telling you, it really is for Pilates lovers.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_01]: It really is one of the best things you could subscribe to because you can do it in addition to your other things.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: Like it doesn't have your only thing, but we actually give feedback on your form like for exercise you're struggling with.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: We have a really amazing community that answers a lot of questions, it's a good support you on the equipment choices, all that good stuff.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: And we help hold you a canal to your Pilates practice.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_01]: And we do this fun event.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's free if you're a member and it's not free if you're not a member.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: Do you have to pay for it?
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: you're not a member.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: So you're going to go to opc.me slash events to get on the wait list for that.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, probably right now you can sign up for it.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know how it is on this date, but it's available for you to register for.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: But if you go to opc.me, such events, it should direct you to where that is.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, opc.me slash events.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then, at the time of recording this, there's five spots left in my mentorship program.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: Just five, it could be gone by now.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: I have no idea, but you want to get a leftly Logan.co slash elevator to put soul that I'll say.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: So on the website, if it's not sold out, you can apply to be in the mentorship program.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: Once I've accepted all the applications and they have accepted their spots, it's, you've to work on 2020, eight.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, oh fuck, he's that's far.
- 7:12[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, don't sit on it.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, do not.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to wait that long to work with you.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's way too much fun.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, right?
- 7:26[SPEAKER_03]: Well, before we dig into this amazing conversation that you had with Barbettes, we have a question.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_03]: Today's question is from Martha Novara on YouTube, and she was commenting on the teaching the hundred to beginners video.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_03]: She said, hey, amazing tips, quick cue.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_03]: When preparing for roll ups, when you say you don't like arms holding behind the knees, what it'd be helpful to have the client let go and reach the arms forward as they curl
- 7:56[SPEAKER_03]: would it be a useful prep for an actual roll-up?
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to picture what you're saying.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, it's not you, Martha, it's the nice time that's medicine.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so I understand.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_01]: We're preparing for roll-ups, and I don't like when people hold behind the knees because they just use their arms, which is why I don't like it.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: I understand why a half-roll-up exists.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: I have it in my flashcards.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: I actually have information on how to best teach it.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: And if they're holding behind their thighs, like close their knees, just want to make sure that they're not using their arms to do it, but of course, they might need to.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_01]: but is it helpful for them to reach forward as they curl their lowest point like so they like go it could be it might be extra to be honest here's a problem people make pilates too complicated what i mean is like okay go for it okay now right there stop read your arms forward and keep going i think people like whip up they like you know to get up into that role i'm sorry that's what i did at first for sure
- 8:51[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so what I would say Martha is, if they're not ready for the roll-up, maybe we need to do other things.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe they need to do some pre-polotty work.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I was going to say everybody's favorite elbow slip will really help with the roll-up.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: Is that minding me too hard?
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe they actually do really hard.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's really hard.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, look, if they don't have access to a Cadillac, that would be a bummer because where I'm thinking they need to go, is they have to roll-up with the roll-back bar, actually need to use a springs that help them go down and up versus just working on themselves.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: I would also stay stomach massage on their form would be really great.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: I would stay pushed down on the one chair could be really helpful.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_01]: And if they don't have access to any equipment Martha then I would put them on the wall and I'd practice the roll up at the wall.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: Clearly something is tight and something is weak.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: So instead of trying to modify
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: the roll-up again and again until it's almost nothing, like the roll-up, which is basically like borrowing cash off a credit card which is the highest interest rate weeks.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's really hard to pay back.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: Whenever you use two-minute modifications, are they ever going to be able to do the actual exercise ever, right?
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: As it takes years?
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: Let's take months.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: So I would say put them at the wall and work on the roll down up and on the wall so they go put their back and then work on exercises that would stretch the front of their thighs and strengthen the back of their legs and then add the exercise back in.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's perfectly fine for them to skip it.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: Get better at it.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I know that that sounds terrible.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_01]: Some people are like, I'm just trying to make apply as successful.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying don't make it accessible.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_03]: What I'm saying is, yeah, but there are building blocks here and maybe you haven't built the foundation necessary to be able to do the roll up without either cheating or hurting someone, right?
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_01]: You remember how?
- 10:27[SPEAKER_03]: Not that you're hurting them, but they could hurt themselves.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: Training wheels work.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: They like don't actually touch the ground.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's like if you lean to one side, a training while touching the ground.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: Right catches you.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: Then I saw someone's training wheels that like touch the ground.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: Having training wheels that touch the ground on both sides, that kid is never right in a bicycle.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_03]: Never.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: ever.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's never going to happen.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_01]: So you have to actually make sure that you're not putting a tripod on a bike versus actually something that will help them test the waters.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_03]: That's a great visual.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_01]: I just came up with it now.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_01]: How did I not think about that?
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: Genius.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Paul.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: And the other thing I'll just say is like not every exercise is for everybody at that time.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_01]: And we have to understand that like our job as the teachers who are teaching people is to make sure that we understand by looking at a body with their ready for and then prepare them for what they're ready for.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: And for the clients, it is understanding that if you can't do an exercise yet, it doesn't mean there's something wrong with you.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_01]: It means that we actually have to find the connections to help you get there.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like, no one would go, oh my god, I can't bench press.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to make this bar lighter.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: Roach and make a lighter bar.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_01]: No, they're like, here are some lighter dumbbells.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: Here is another way you could do push-ups at the wall.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: They're like all these different things.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: You take bands and you build up your flexibility and your abilities.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_03]: And like, it's like doing pull-ups, right?
- 11:51[SPEAKER_03]: Like the same thing.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_03]: This is a great, these are great pearls.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_01]: But for whatever reason, at a gym, people are understanding that they have to build up their strength to do something.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: But in Pilates, or even in Yoga, I would argue, people like, you should make the exercise possible.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, even when you are, like, I can, like, even when you're like, I got this, I can do a squat with 175 pounds.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_03]: Your first squat is not 100% if I pounds.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_03]: You build up your bar.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_03]: Do you get to 100% of my pounds?
- 12:16[SPEAKER_03]: Even if you know you can already do it.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: Today, I, Dave, I back squat at 120 pounds today.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_03]: Just got me, Dave.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: Babe.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, babe.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: What's the with the size of the picture?
- 12:25[SPEAKER_01]: It sounds like Dave.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: But it's babe.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, babe.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, Dave.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, Dave.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, Dave.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_01]: I back school at 120 pounds.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_01]: Which do I start it with?
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: Tell me.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_01]: 65 pounds did three reps that I added 20 more pounds.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: 85 pounds.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: Then I got to 105 and did six reps. Now I started my rounds.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: And I went to 110, then 115, 120, why?
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: Because you have to get your brain connected to it.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I just want to say, like, from whatever reason, people like, oh, I have to make Pilates accessible to everybody.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: No, you have to make everybody ready for the exercise.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to give them.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: That is your job.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: If you're a teacher, that's your job if you're a teacher.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're not doing that, then you're not helping people.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: You're just putting a tripod on their bike and going, see, you did it.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_01]: You did Pilates.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: That to me is almost lying to them.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: Anyways, now I'm on a pat.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_03]: I'm on a fucking like.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: What do you call those things about a pedestal?
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not pointing fingers of people.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_01]: Martha, I just want to say, oh, so I am.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_01]: My soapbox, that's what I'm on.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'm telling you, guys, the day I call it.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: Martha, I appreciate this question.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_01]: I know it comes from a place of love and wanting your clients to get it.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: And I love that you're trying to be creative.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_01]: And so I hope, I hope you don't feel like I'm attacking you.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_01]: I just, I want to give you a different perspective of how to think about writing your clients and I hope that gives you some.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_03]: I like it.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_03]: I like it.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_03]: Well, that's a great question, Martha.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_03]: Thanks for writing that in and feel free to keep writing in questions.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_03]: If you have a question, text the to us at 310 955534.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_03]: We also love to celebrate wins.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_03]: If you haven't, if it is your first episode tomorrow, we'll be lucky Friday.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_03]: And that's going to be amazing.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_01]: So one of one of one of one of the people who sent a win in.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_01]: they're like, I don't know if it's qualifies, they're in one of our, they're like an elevate grad and like, I don't know if it qualifies as a win, but I heard my win on the FYF today, that I said, Dan, and it's been months since I've had that win and being able to hear it and re-selebrate that is another win.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_03]: Well, if you have either a win or a question, you can also send it in at bitpod.com slash questions, bitpod.com slash questions, and we can't wait to celebrate yours.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_03]: So stick around.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_03]: We'll be right back.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to talk about Barb Bets.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_03]: Laura Betts is a keynote speaker, author and recovering real estate broker who turned an accidental speaking career into a full-time role as a thought leader.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_03]: With over 20 years of experience, he helps professionals understand how relationships drive leadership, sales and long-term success.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_03]: She's the author of the relationship advantage and is known for her practical, trust-centered approach to relationships.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_03]: And I think her book has just come out.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_03]: So we're really proud.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_03]: We've known Barb now for like five or six years.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_03]: And yeah, this is really exciting for her.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_03]: So we're fired up.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_01]: She's thinking ass.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, fantastic.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_03]: So one thing.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, actually, it's my turn.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_03]: It's your turn.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm always sorry.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's my turn.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_03]: It's your turn.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_01]: She said I love this so much.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: She said to have a real relationship with anyone else.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_01]: You first have to have relationship with yourself.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_03]: You guys was like, this is like, this is like, Mike, drop moment boom.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_01]: Kate, y'all, this is like,
- 15:22[SPEAKER_01]: Every time I have people in my life who complain about the people who are dating want to go there's something wrong with you because you if you keep a track being people like one of our friends day and excited for them but like I saw online that they're just like this is the third person that's ghosted being it's like.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_01]: Why do you people three people in a row ghost you like what are you putting out in the world because one person goes to you Okay, that like lightning strikes once and a while, but like three there's something going on there So she mentioned that relationships are a mere of your self You're only capable ability of relation to with someone else to the capacity you have one with yours
- 15:58[SPEAKER_01]: Now, so she also argued that the biggest problem we have in life is we're trying to build relationships with others and we don't even know who we are.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_01]: So we show up with these relationships and evidently we people please and present an inauthentic version of ourselves and I have a series coming up on
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's listening to your inner self, and I brought up a book called Gain Love You Want.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I also just want to say, I have no idea if it ages well.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: I have no idea if that person's like a real marriage counselor.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: But there is this thing about in the book that talks about how when you get into a new relationship with anybody, ourville Hendrix.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: You, you fill in all of your holes, so to speak.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: You fill them in, but you think that the other person you're with, fill them in.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_01]: And then a few months when you're exhausted and tired, you know, fill them in anymore.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_01]: And then you're like, you've changed, and it's like, actually you change.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: because you were filling those things and you were presenting it in authentic version of yourself.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_01]: And so I just think that like what, if you are someone who's buying new friendships, new relationships, better clients, you know, Barb's big thing is that like if you have really great relationships, you could have great longevity in your business and things like that.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_01]: But if you don't who you are, you're not gonna be attracting people that you want in your life whether they're clients, friends, a romantic partner, any of that kind of stuff.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's how you're self-harble.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_03]: Hendrix is a doctor.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, great.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_03]: Well, they have a PhD.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_03]: I have no idea in what, but it's Dr. Hendrix.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_03]: So, yes.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: I remember it being great.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_01]: I also only read the first chapter.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_01]: I've heard it got the point.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_01]: like, you're like, I'm like, okay, I got this chapter.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_03]: I see, we, yeah, this is like ADHD.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: We were assigned that I made.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I know that, but, but I will just say, like, I appreciate that.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: But they come to this.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, if you're not clear and who you are, you actually fill in these gaps.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_01]: You people, please.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_01]: And then you're wondering, like, way of relationships that, like, don't represent you or don't feel right or don't fit.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's because you didn't know who you were and you brought that on yourself.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_03]: That's true.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I got really into when she was kind of dissing the word authenticity.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_03]: Even though the irony is she wants people to be authentic and she also she acknowledged that and she said that.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_03]: What she said her big beef with it is the word
- 18:17[SPEAKER_03]: She critiques the common self-hub mantra of just be yourself, you know, and she argues that to be is a verb that the verb to be is inherently performative, right?
- 18:29[SPEAKER_03]: Comparing it to deciding what to be for Halloween or when you grow up.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_03]: right so if we are going to like I think the Halloween parallel is perfect like I am going to be Ironman for Halloween and you're like putting on a costume to be Ironman for the night but then we're also told to be authentic and we're like okay I got to be authentic in this moment coming up right now but like in my real life am I actually authentic or am I putting on the costume of authenticity for this thing I'm gonna go do whatever
- 18:56[SPEAKER_03]: Right, and so I think that that was like that was really intriguing to me because she said that's I think how most people are thinking about it like okay I got to put on my to my authenticity hat now, you know she said authenticity is not about doing anything.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_03]: Authenticity is about undoing everything that is not you I love that and I think that that makes it a lot easier Another mic drop moment like I seriously listen there was some like really deep stuff in this episode with Barb and she was just casually throwing out these like epic topics I was like whoa, let's dig into that more she started talking about comparison
- 19:31[SPEAKER_03]: And she said, comparison is actually the thief of authenticity.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_03]: When you're comparing, you are now all of a sudden adding things into your life that are not you.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_03]: But if authenticity is about undoing everything that isn't you, then comparison is really the number one trap.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_03]: And if you compare yourself to someone else or if reasons you're running a race, you cannot win.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_03]: She advised that to we need to reframe comparison by replacing envy with curiosity, right?
- 19:58[SPEAKER_03]: Which I love.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_03]: Wow, look at them.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_03]: How are they doing what they're doing?
- 20:01[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, rather than feeling defeated by someone else's success, we should view them as showing us that there's a path that's possible or maybe even literally showing us the path.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I could do that too.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_03]: Right, you know, and how you could achieve it your own way.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_03]: So I just thought it was powerful.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm really, really excited to read her book.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_03]: I'm excited to read her book.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we've been listening to Barb but talk about building great relationships for really long time.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: And so does that be her be able to put in a concise book that anyone, because she does is on speaking, but why aren't you going to go see your speak?
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: You have to be at one of those speaking places, right?
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: And like this is something anyone can use.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I think like I love the word authentic, like it's a value that we have at our companies, it's a value that I think is really important.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_01]: But I agree with her.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_01]: I agree with her, it is over use and on her export.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_01]: gonna be really honest.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's very similar.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_01]: Like I do Pilates, but most of the time people tell me that, I'm like, oh, and then I'm like, where do you do it?
- 20:55[SPEAKER_01]: And they're like, I do it over this place and I'm like, those aren't even reformers.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: Why is the firm hot?
- 21:01[SPEAKER_01]: Why are we doing?
- 21:03[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, and you're in your shoulders hurt later.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: You're not doing Pilates, but I don't want to be the person who tells them that.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's just an annoying thing.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_01]: So I kind of feel like I understand and I love Pilates,
- 21:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in a conundrum.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_03]: Conundrum.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's something we have to remove.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_03]: Well, anyway, we will be right back.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to dig into some be it action items that you covered with barbets stick around.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_03]: All right, so finally, let's talk about those BIT action items, what bold, executable intrinsic or targeted action items can we take away from your cover with Barb?
- 21:38[SPEAKER_03]: That's, she said, there are three things that have to be present to have a real relationship with others and even with yourself.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_03]: She calls it the VVR formula visibility.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_03]: Vulnerability and Relatability, VR, so visibility.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_03]: Are you actually showing up and being present?
- 21:57[SPEAKER_03]: Visibility.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_03]: Are you actually showing up and being present?
- 22:00[SPEAKER_03]: She links this to a really interesting law called propinkwitty, which I have never looked up and thought that was interesting.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_03]: She said that the greater proximity increases the chance of a relationship.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_03]: So if you're not in the room, you can't have a relationship.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's kind of like how hinge they tap.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_01]: You start.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_01]: It was based on if someone had ever been in a location that you've been to.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, okay.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_01]: That's how Chris and Laura got together.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_01]: They both went to some area in entry city mall crazy.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_01]: She shopped there in his office was down there.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_01]: And so they're like, you two are near each other.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_01]: Some of the time.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_01]: Love that.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_03]: Well, yeah.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_03]: So visibility obviously.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_03]: Vulnerability is the second thing.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_03]: And I thought again, this was another really powerful thing.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_03]: And she said, there has to be some level of vulnerability in your life with other human beings.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_03]: Are you willing to say I don't know the answer to that or text someone and just be like hey I was just thinking about you I miss you right and there's that is being vulnerable and when you do that it really does like
- 23:01[SPEAKER_03]: let them know that they're special, that they care.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_03]: So you know, by being vulnerable, you're helping connect the dots and it builds relationships.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_03]: The third is relatable, relatableity.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_03]: You have to have a point of connection or common ground.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_03]: She believes that this is often something forced, that people are forcing, right?
- 23:21[SPEAKER_03]: I mean,
- 23:22[SPEAKER_03]: you know, it's like I think actually people who get in a relationship and they they say things like oh we love the same music and movies and all this kind of stuff but like that's the only things that are a part of it there's got to be more the vulnerability is like super important you know and honesty and trust and of course all of the other things but relatability is a definitely the beginning it will help jumpstart all these conversations and all these things but you know if you're forcing it you're not being vulnerable.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, she emphasized that if you don't have these three things, then you won't build a relationship.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I believe that.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, what about you?
- 23:59[SPEAKER_03]: Big takeaway.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, stop hiding.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, let your walls down.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_03]: Booth.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: Let people in.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you're not perfect.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_01]: I meant where you know your vulnerabilities are.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, attention how you feel on social media.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_01]: Pay attention what you're looking out and how you're preparing yourself to others.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, these are great things to like even journal on.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: They kind of help in what you were talking about before.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_01]: First of all, if you're listening to this podcast, you're already admitting you're not perfect.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: We listen to us.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: I sound like a fucking shit right now.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: Sound like a big, well, but I also think like,
- 24:25[SPEAKER_01]: When you admit those things, it you don't have to pretend and you can just, it doesn't mean you get like, it's like a bus past to like being an asshole, but you can just be like, like, I am not an organized person.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not, it's not something I'm going to learn to do.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: I put things down.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_01]: I don't put them away.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not a dirty person.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a messy person.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: You know, so I, that means I have to know that those are my things that I need people in my life who will put things away or keep things out of my hand.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: So I can't fuck it up.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_01]: You know, just have to know these things.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_01]: And if you do feel like shit when you're watching social media, I'm doing it.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: One of my clients just social media does make her feel good.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_01]: So she doesn't have any account.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_01]: She just she's like I should like I have no idea what's going on and that's okay because like honestly like I don't It wasn't helping the the benefits of being in on like whatever is something that it's like People are talking about don't outweigh the negatives of how I feel about myself when I watch it So I think this is really important and I understand if you've been hurt before it's hard to let your walls down
- 25:26[SPEAKER_01]: but you waiting for someone to be trustworthy enough to let your walls down.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, how you do that, you trust them.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: Do you like, like, like, the way it works, you have to let your walls down first, so you can trust them like your walls down.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: That's how it goes.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: So it people suck.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: They'll find new people.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_01]: Co-planned people.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_03]: I want to say, like, I love how hard I burn those relationships.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_03]: or not relationships because they're not relationships.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_01]: No, I think like I love how Barb talks about like building authentic relationships.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_01]: I mean big fan of just like, I'm like, you know, still don't go.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm amazed at how many friends you have from like different parts of your life and like I mean, yeah.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, and I have I I.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_01]: If I saw those people in a place right now, I would not avoid them.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: I would absolutely go, oh my god, high from high school.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_01]: If I, to be honest, and no fans in even for high school, if I recognized you, I really didn't know who I was in high school.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_01]: So I, I don't know, like who you remember, because probably I'm an oddie.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: You prepared to know me.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: But like, I would just say like, I don't have those, but I wouldn't be like, oh, I don't talk to those people anymore.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: So it's like, I outgrew those things because I got to know myself more and it's not a slight to them.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's like you keep going.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_01]: So it's okay to let relationships go if you have to show up in authentically to be in them.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think that that's a really important information, you know.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_03]: I think I think that's we're saying again, you know, like, and it's something I struggle with is letting a relationship go.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_03]: You know, because for me, I value relationships really highly, but I love the idea that if
- 26:56[SPEAKER_03]: you have changed to the point where being in a relationship with a friend or even a family member means you have to be inauthentic to be in that you're allowed to hit pause.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, so yeah, and it's going to be healthy for you in the long run and it is something that we have to protect ourselves.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_03]: And
- 27:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, because like think about this, we talk about this all the time when we let our friends or family We tell them our dream and then they shit all over it and then we take that seriously, you know, and it's like like we all know that that has happened But also too, like clearly there's a discord there doesn't mean we were firing those friends, but the point is that if we are aware,
- 27:43[SPEAKER_03]: if you have to like pretend to be your old self to be in a relationship with someone maybe you move on.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'll just say like the other day we were at not the other day the other day, but while back we were at an event and I saw some people in person for the first time in six seven years in our industry and I used to have a lot and there was just a few different times they showed me kind of like
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: who they were and how I needed to be in their relationship with them.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_01]: And they're not bad people.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, they just their needs and how they want to be and what they want to talk about are things that are not something I want to do and how I'd have to be in a conversation with them is not authentic to me.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_01]: And I went up.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_01]: I hugged them.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_01]: I generally said how are you?
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: What's going on?
- 28:28[SPEAKER_01]: And they did vague.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_01]: This is what's going on even like they were not vulnerable.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_01]: And what they did say was like, I literally know the conversation.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_01]: They were like, they were like,
- 28:39[SPEAKER_01]: kind of pumping up whatever it was that they were doing in a very like I'm over here and this is over here and I was like yeah I'm really glad that I'm I'm saying hi and I'm so glad that it was the last six years we have been in contact because like who they want me to be in that conversation is not who I am yeah and I have voiced multiple times things that like as like
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: they don't see it that way.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_01]: It has to be a negative.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like it's that we're different.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_03]: And I think but this comes back to knowing yourself.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_03]: So because you know yourself, it allows you to be like, oh, yeah.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_01]: So because of that.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: So it was great to just have a check in like, oh, did I let something go?
- 29:22[SPEAKER_01]: Was it me?
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: No, actually we're oil and water and that is okay.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_01]: And we can exist as balsamic and oil.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes they're great on bread.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes there's people who are me glad that we're both at the exact same event, but I don't have to pour myself into their... Bull.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_01]: Bulls.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_03]: For the first.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_03]: It's a first.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, love it.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_01]: Awesome.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_01]: I must have Logan.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm Brad Crowl.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, they're amazing.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_01]: I just am so grateful for you.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for sticking it out with this voice.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: I hope that we record a couple of days better.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_01]: If it's not,
