- 0:40Speaker 2: of the season, the Crack and looking to take three
- 0:43Speaker 2: to four against Anaheim and also looking to avenge a
- 0:47Speaker 2: four to two loss they took the hands of the
- 0:49Speaker 2: Ducks back in Seattle on January twenty third. Everett fits
- 0:53Speaker 2: you joining us here in just a bit. We'll jump
- 0:55Speaker 2: right into it, including a nod to Jared McKinnon, who
- 0:58Speaker 2: earned NHL First Star of the Week honors right before that. Though,
- 1:03Speaker 2: the Crack And Taken on the Vegas Golden Kninths in
- 1:06Speaker 2: Some of the highlights here, as far as what you
- 1:08Speaker 2: may have missed or just want to hear all over again,
- 1:11Speaker 2: involve the Krack and looking to take Vegas by storm
- 1:14Speaker 2: in the first game of a three game road trip
- 1:17Speaker 2: in Sin City and.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Steven Said forcing it in Stevenson backhand and front, Ryan
- 1:22Speaker 3: winter Ten shot the rebound Tolbanen scores belly Tolvenan crashing
- 1:29Speaker 3: the goal Following the Ryan winter Ten shot.
- 1:32Speaker 4: The Seattle Crack cant take a one nothing lead thirteen
- 1:36Speaker 4: to ten to play in the.
- 1:37Speaker 5: First well, shandw Stevenson down the right side. He gets
- 1:40Speaker 5: the edge on the defenseman and as he does not,
- 1:42Speaker 5: he starts pushing the buck towards the net. Looks for
- 1:45Speaker 5: Winter tws trailing tribute Witter to get the great shot
- 1:48Speaker 5: on net. Smith gives up the rebound tolban is there
- 1:51Speaker 5: to bury it one nothing.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Stevenson left circled again done. McCann one timer scores.
- 1:59Speaker 4: Jared McCann NHL goal number two hundred hits, a power
- 2:04Speaker 4: play goal, and the Cracking with a two to nothing
- 2:07Speaker 4: lead six point fifty five to play in the first well.
- 2:10Speaker 5: Great puck pooping around the top of the umbrella on
- 2:12Speaker 5: that power play starts with Stevenson over on the hashmarks
- 2:15Speaker 5: on the board. He moves it back to done Done,
- 2:18Speaker 5: does not hesitate. He slides it down to McCann. Mckenn
- 2:21Speaker 5: drops to one knee at the bottom of the circle
- 2:24Speaker 5: and beat Smidt top corner two nothing.
- 2:26Speaker 4: Dragattle chasing it down near circle at the half wall
- 2:30Speaker 4: is back to the point for a Larsen job turn
- 2:32Speaker 4: a side rebound Scos Copo Cocko bangs on the loose
- 2:38Speaker 4: buck and the cracking regame the lead three to two
- 2:42Speaker 4: sixteen forty two left.
- 2:44Speaker 5: In the third well a moment ago I mentioned Larsen
- 2:46Speaker 5: just putting the puck on the net to try and
- 2:48Speaker 5: get the puck there. It's the same thing here. That
- 2:50Speaker 5: puck comes back to the point. He's at the corner
- 2:53Speaker 5: of the blue line on the boards. He puts it
- 2:55Speaker 5: back on net. It's knocked down in front. Copo Cocko finds.
- 2:58Speaker 4: It three to two cracks in seconds left in regulation.
- 3:02Speaker 4: Freddie Gadreau fuck one back to the near wall. Ichel
- 3:06Speaker 4: up top, Chael shoot Stock down by the card lose
- 3:09Speaker 4: puck deflected over top of the goal there's the horn.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Then the Seattle Cracket come into Vegas. They get their
- 3:18Speaker 4: fourth win in a row, fifth win in their.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Last six games.
- 3:22Speaker 4: They pulled to it in three points of the top
- 3:25Speaker 4: spot in the Pacific Division with a three to two
- 3:29Speaker 4: win over Vegas.
- 3:30Speaker 2: All right, one big win down in the books and
- 3:33Speaker 2: another potentially could be around the corner of the crack
- 3:35Speaker 2: and taken on the Anaheim Ducks. And it doesn't get
- 3:38Speaker 2: easier as far as potential four point swing games. Here
- 3:42Speaker 2: at Orange County we are live sort of face to face.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Everett fits you who's got again? The radio call tonight
- 3:49Speaker 2: in TV Land for tomorrow against Kings. Good to see you.
- 3:52Speaker 2: You look a little refreshed after some beach time here
- 3:55Speaker 2: for today. But I think it was as far as
- 3:58Speaker 2: we measure games like this with the crack in the ducks, Utah,
- 4:01Speaker 2: San Jose all scrunched up, it's tight, it's compact. How
- 4:06Speaker 2: big is this game coming up here?
- 4:08Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 4:08Speaker 6: I mean I think this is probably the biggest game
- 4:11Speaker 6: I think, I don't want to say of the year,
- 4:13Speaker 6: but I mean in the last maybe ten or so,
- 4:16Speaker 6: when you're looking at Anaheim right neck and neck with
- 4:19Speaker 6: you in the standings, some help, and you the krack
- 4:23Speaker 6: in potentially could be in first place by the end
- 4:25Speaker 6: of tomorrow when you're done with the Kings going into
- 4:28Speaker 6: the Olympic break. Now, you do need some help in
- 4:30Speaker 6: that category, but I mean listen for the krack in
- 4:33Speaker 6: the way that they've been playing here in the last
- 4:35Speaker 6: week and a half. I mean, you've won four of
- 4:37Speaker 6: your last five games ever since that one nine in
- 4:41Speaker 6: one stretch you were on Seattle's fourteen to five and three,
- 4:45Speaker 6: So they've been able to pick up points more often
- 4:48Speaker 6: than not in those twenty two games. So this is important.
- 4:53Speaker 6: You need to flush that four to two loss that
- 4:54Speaker 6: you had against Anaheim a couple of ten days or
- 4:57Speaker 6: so ago. And if you're do what you did against Vegas,
- 5:02Speaker 6: do what you did against Toronto. You've been finding ways
- 5:05Speaker 6: to get it done, and you're gonna have to show
- 5:07Speaker 6: up tonight against Anaheim.
- 5:08Speaker 2: I think part of that recent run, we can look
- 5:11Speaker 2: at goaltending. We can look at the emergence of Jacob
- 5:14Speaker 2: Alanson and the weight that he has really helped carry
- 5:17Speaker 2: with this team. Ryan Winterton on his line elsewhere too.
- 5:20Speaker 2: But I think front and center of this has got
- 5:23Speaker 2: to be a manny Beineers's line as well too. He
- 5:25Speaker 2: had ten goals in this month, and then his linemate
- 5:27Speaker 2: Jared McCann of course, also ten goals as well in
- 5:30Speaker 2: this month, franchise record. McCann also NHL First Star of
- 5:33Speaker 2: the Week. But I mean it's comparable to the kind
- 5:36Speaker 2: of hockey that we saw Adam McCann three years ago
- 5:39Speaker 2: when he was a forty goal guy in this team
- 5:41Speaker 2: made the postseason. What have you made a Jared McCann
- 5:44Speaker 2: in the last week, in the last month.
- 5:45Speaker 6: Also, I mean you're selling you're seeing his importance to
- 5:47Speaker 6: this team. He's got points in twenty one of his
- 5:49Speaker 6: thirty games played this year, coming off of his second
- 5:52Speaker 6: career four point game a couple games ago back at home,
- 5:57Speaker 6: and look he's back with McCay and or with but
- 6:01Speaker 6: hears in every Jared mccannon is. So you're putting him
- 6:04Speaker 6: with skilled players and he's showing that forty goal pedigree.
- 6:09Speaker 6: And I think this is now really the first time,
- 6:12Speaker 6: once you've gotten everyone back healthy, you've gotten that chemistry back.
- 6:16Speaker 6: This is now the first time I think we're seeing
- 6:18Speaker 6: everybody going, everyone going, everyone pulling in the same direction
- 6:24Speaker 6: and playing to their strength. Your fourth line is doing
- 6:26Speaker 6: what they need to do. Your third line, I think
- 6:28Speaker 6: has been playing pretty well, although now without Berkeley Catton
- 6:31Speaker 6: you're seeing a little bit of change and shoveling of
- 6:35Speaker 6: the line up there. But your top six to four
- 6:36Speaker 6: group is doing exactly what you're asking what they should
- 6:39Speaker 6: be doing. And I think that top line has led
- 6:41Speaker 6: the way you mentioned McCann first are of the week
- 6:45Speaker 6: for Seattle seven points in three games. The Cracking have
- 6:48Speaker 6: won all three of those games, so you're seeing the
- 6:50Speaker 6: importance there, and he's just continuing on that pace already
- 6:53Speaker 6: the all time leading goals scorer and all time leading
- 6:57Speaker 6: point getter in Seattle Crack in his I mean again,
- 7:02Speaker 6: you could be looking at a potential another forty goal
- 7:04Speaker 6: scorer for a guy that missed twenty some odd games
- 7:08Speaker 6: of the season. So I mean that that's going to
- 7:11Speaker 6: be you know, historic territory if we get there. But
- 7:14Speaker 6: Jared mccannon, I mean he's going to be the most
- 7:18Speaker 6: important player I think with this run for the Krack
- 7:20Speaker 6: and moving forward.
- 7:21Speaker 2: One observation I want to make on his line mate
- 7:23Speaker 2: Matty Beniers, by the way, which poses him to have
- 7:25Speaker 2: a big game here. I think the Ducks really hate
- 7:28Speaker 2: facing him. At this point twenty points and fourteen career
- 7:30Speaker 2: games against them. But in this last month with Beniers,
- 7:34Speaker 2: it's not just the fact that he's scored ten goals,
- 7:37Speaker 2: but the kind of goals that he's also scored. I
- 7:40Speaker 2: go back and remember the Carolina game when he turned
- 7:43Speaker 2: Jacob Slavin in side out. I go back and think
- 7:46Speaker 2: of the New Jersey game when he went all the
- 7:49Speaker 2: way to the backhan and went nearly barred down on
- 7:52Speaker 2: Jacob Markstrum and did that as well to break a
- 7:55Speaker 2: tie game in the third period. So when you look
- 7:59Speaker 2: at Beneir's and his potential, I think what really occurs
- 8:02Speaker 2: to me is it's not just the offense, but also
- 8:05Speaker 2: the kind of confidence that he is gaining more and
- 8:08Speaker 2: more with the puck, and he is now producing offense
- 8:12Speaker 2: in the way that a top six or even a
- 8:14Speaker 2: top line guy would do as well.
- 8:16Speaker 6: Yeah, this is what you were expecting from Matty Vaneers
- 8:18Speaker 6: when you drafted him. And listen, I was talking to
- 8:21Speaker 6: someone the other day in the national pundit category and
- 8:25Speaker 6: they were telling me that, you know, I know, Mattivaneers
- 8:28Speaker 6: has been a late bloomer, but he's starting to come on.
- 8:30Speaker 6: I was like, I don't know if I call a
- 8:32Speaker 6: Calder Trophy winner a late bloomer. You know, he did.
- 8:35Speaker 2: They were watching all of our games this last month exactly.
- 8:38Speaker 6: You know, he did have the sophomore slump in a
- 8:41Speaker 6: little bit of the junior slump. But I mean, this
- 8:43Speaker 6: is the Matty Evaneers that you're expecting. And we talked
- 8:45Speaker 6: so much about Maddie this season and his defensive numbers
- 8:50Speaker 6: and the way that he has become and morphed into
- 8:54Speaker 6: I think one of the best two way centermen definitely
- 8:57Speaker 6: in the Western Conference, you know, as far as where
- 9:00Speaker 6: he is improved. But now that he's got that defensive
- 9:04Speaker 6: responsibility down, you're seeing that confidence and you're seeing that
- 9:08Speaker 6: skill on the offensive side of the puck as well,
- 9:11Speaker 6: and it's paying off dividends. He and McCann both ten
- 9:13Speaker 6: goals this month or I guess last month. Now that
- 9:16Speaker 6: we're in February already, happy Black History Month that way, Mike.
- 9:20Speaker 6: But you know, I do think that for Matty Beaneer's
- 9:24Speaker 6: him and McCann, they have found that chemistry. Jordan Everley
- 9:28Speaker 6: as well on that line. I mean Matty Beaneer's you know,
- 9:33Speaker 6: going back to the last two seasons of Benier's. I'm
- 9:36Speaker 6: gonna put him in the category with Philip Grubauer as
- 9:39Speaker 6: probably most improved player coming in, you know, if there
- 9:43Speaker 6: ever was one for the Kracken this season. So McCann
- 9:46Speaker 6: we talked about Matty Beaneers as well. On that same note,
- 9:49Speaker 6: he is going to be vital to the Krakens playoff
- 9:52Speaker 6: push and hopes the rest of the season.
- 9:55Speaker 2: I wanted to touch on Jacob Allanson as well, and
- 9:58Speaker 2: the number of hits that he is piled up now
- 10:01Speaker 2: have just been absolutely mind blowing and the pace that
- 10:05Speaker 2: he was on earlier. I was able to put a
- 10:08Speaker 2: calculator here to this and it was up in Matt
- 10:11Speaker 2: Martin territorial. I wouldn't say Keith for surewood with the
- 10:13Speaker 2: record setting numbers he had, I mean, that was ridiculous.
- 10:16Speaker 2: But someone else pointed this out as well, that the
- 10:20Speaker 2: average number or the number of hits he's had through
- 10:24Speaker 2: this amount of games for his career equals some of
- 10:27Speaker 2: the heaviest hitters that we have seen over the last
- 10:31Speaker 2: decade maybe decade plus as well. And it just seems
- 10:35Speaker 2: like when you look at the score sheet over and over,
- 10:37Speaker 2: he's got seven hits, eight hits, ten hits, record setting
- 10:41Speaker 2: twelve hits as well in one game was unbelievable. But
- 10:44Speaker 2: I think to me, it's not just the fact that
- 10:46Speaker 2: he's going out of his way to hit people. Whereas
- 10:49Speaker 2: if you saw back in the nineties two thousands, Rob
- 10:52Speaker 2: Blake big hits, Scott Stevens big hits, sometimes they're out
- 10:54Speaker 2: of the play, But the fact that Lane Lambert can
- 10:58Speaker 2: rely on him and others on that line to play
- 11:00Speaker 2: as he would term responsible. I think what's also very
- 11:03Speaker 2: important is that he's not finding his way into the
- 11:06Speaker 2: penalty box bunch also.
- 11:07Speaker 6: Yeah, and I think with Mallanson too. You see those
- 11:09Speaker 6: twelve hits and you're expecting these massive, bone crunching, radco
- 11:14Speaker 6: gooddest type of hits where you're putting a guy into
- 11:17Speaker 6: the fifth row. Malonson is leaning on guys. He he
- 11:21Speaker 6: is going into corners and he's letting you know he's
- 11:24Speaker 6: gonna be there and he can stand up for himself too.
- 11:26Speaker 6: There's been a little bit of rough stuff after the whistle.
- 11:28Speaker 6: You've seen his first fight with dow Ham back against
- 11:31Speaker 6: Toronto or was that Toronto whoever? It was a couple
- 11:33Speaker 6: of games ago, you know, But but I do think
- 11:35Speaker 6: with Er Washington rather with dou Haam. But but with Malonson,
- 11:39Speaker 6: he's getting these hits and it's just they're they're the
- 11:42Speaker 6: type that.
- 11:42Speaker 5: Wear you down. Right.
- 11:44Speaker 6: You can, you can shrug off one big hit, but
- 11:47Speaker 6: if I'm getting hit three or four times a game
- 11:51Speaker 6: by the same guy in the same position, it wears
- 11:54Speaker 6: on you. And I think Malonson is a guy that
- 11:57Speaker 6: just wears on you. And those are the type of
- 11:59Speaker 6: players that I think are underrated. The fans love the
- 12:02Speaker 6: big hits, they love the big hip checks. What was
- 12:05Speaker 6: the hit that was thrown earlier this year where guy
- 12:08Speaker 6: flew over the someone's back, The cracking player threw a
- 12:12Speaker 6: hit over but it was done he who went over
- 12:15Speaker 6: the guys back, and then the crowd was, oh, my goodness,
- 12:18Speaker 6: that was the best thing I ever seen. Mallonson making
- 12:20Speaker 6: it one or two of those, But his are the
- 12:22Speaker 6: type of hits that wear you down, and they oftentimes
- 12:24Speaker 6: get the puck back for you. They make guys think
- 12:27Speaker 6: twice about, you know, going into the corners. Maybe guys
- 12:31Speaker 6: are getting rid of the puck a half second to
- 12:33Speaker 6: a second earlier and causing turnovers and making mistakes on
- 12:37Speaker 6: their end. So it's really smart the way that Malonson's
- 12:41Speaker 6: been playing. And you're right, he's not getting into penalty
- 12:42Speaker 6: trouble either, and he's got some skill to his game too,
- 12:45Speaker 6: So really, I mean he's perfect. Matt Evanier's playing how
- 12:49Speaker 6: we should play, Jared mccahn playing how we should play.
- 12:52Speaker 6: Jacob Allanson knows his roles fitting that role. Three guys
- 12:55Speaker 6: that we've talked about here on this podcast, all of
- 12:57Speaker 6: them are doing exactly what they expected and what they're
- 13:01Speaker 6: paid to do.
- 13:01Speaker 2: What is paying off Anaheim Tonight, needless to say, the
- 13:05Speaker 2: crack and half to defend the rush quite a few times.
- 13:08Speaker 2: I think against this team they're missing Leo Carlson. But again,
- 13:10Speaker 2: Cutter Gachier scored about a little over a minute into
- 13:12Speaker 2: the last matchup. Beckett Seneca is looking like he's making
- 13:16Speaker 2: a serious run right now for the Calder Trophy. Cutter
- 13:19Speaker 2: Goachier leads him with twenty four goals by the way here,
- 13:21Speaker 2: so still plenty of firepower in this lineup. And I
- 13:23Speaker 2: would think from what you saw against Vegas, from what
- 13:26Speaker 2: we saw previous matchup, the first period is going to
- 13:28Speaker 2: be ever so important.
- 13:30Speaker 6: Yeah, Alan and I were actually there two nights ago
- 13:32Speaker 6: watching the Anaheim Vegas game, and I mean, I think
- 13:34Speaker 6: it was a combo of Anaheim starting real quick. Vegas
- 13:38Speaker 6: did not look good in that game. Alan and I
- 13:40Speaker 6: actually weren't tired. Yeah, they were looked a little tired.
- 13:43Speaker 6: You could tell. It was the second half of a
- 13:44Speaker 6: back to back for them. Alan. I actually left with
- 13:47Speaker 6: about ten to go. It was three to one. We
- 13:49Speaker 6: get up down the elevator, it's three to two and
- 13:53Speaker 6: we're like, all right, the Ubers waiting, Let's just hope
- 13:55Speaker 6: the score keeps. Ended up being four to two and
- 13:57Speaker 6: then four to three. They pulled it back to within one.
- 13:59Speaker 6: But I think Anaheim it was their skill, it was
- 14:02Speaker 6: their speed. We saw it five games ago back at
- 14:04Speaker 6: CPA against the Ducks. They got off to a really
- 14:07Speaker 6: good start against Vegas two nights ago. And I'm gonna eck.
- 14:10Speaker 6: I'm going to assume that lay Lambert will say today
- 14:14Speaker 6: in a couple hours when we record our pregame one
- 14:16Speaker 6: on one. Gotta get off to a good start. Can't
- 14:19Speaker 6: let these guys beat you at home and beat you
- 14:21Speaker 6: to the pocket and that first goal. So I think
- 14:24Speaker 6: for Seattle, starting on time is going to be huge.
- 14:27Speaker 6: The Cracking are in a very interesting spot right now,
- 14:30Speaker 6: not only in the standings, but yesterday was their second
- 14:33Speaker 6: day off in a row. They haven't had that since Christmas,
- 14:36Speaker 6: so hopefully these guys was like a vacations kind of Yeah, exactly.
- 14:39Speaker 6: The guys are like, oh, what are supposed to do today?
- 14:41Speaker 6: And they had a pretty good practice yesterday at the
- 14:44Speaker 6: Honda Center, so you know they should be ready to go.
- 14:47Speaker 6: And then of course you got the Kings tomorrow. But tonight,
- 14:49Speaker 6: I mean this is going to be I think going
- 14:52Speaker 6: into the break, this is your biggest game of the
- 14:56Speaker 6: last ten. I would say for Seattle because, like I said,
- 15:01Speaker 6: first place. Depending on what happens tonight tomorrow. There's a
- 15:05Speaker 6: game on Thursday as well, but depending on what happens
- 15:07Speaker 6: in the NHL the next couple of days, Seattle very
- 15:10Speaker 6: well could be in first place in the Pacific going
- 15:12Speaker 6: into the Olympic break. So you have to you're looking
- 15:14Speaker 6: at Vegas and do what you can do. Control what
- 15:17Speaker 6: you can control. In right now, you can control beating
- 15:19Speaker 6: Anaheim tonight.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Call me jealous because of the breakfast that you had
- 15:22Speaker 2: here on the beach not too far away. I gotta
- 15:24Speaker 2: get back down.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Here earlier enough.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Oh it was great man, ever it fits you joining
- 15:28Speaker 2: us again. This is gonna be a fun one. The
- 15:30Speaker 2: crack At have won four in a row, Anaheim has
- 15:32Speaker 2: won eight of their last ten, and they are tied
- 15:35Speaker 2: at sixty one points right now. This is going to
- 15:39Speaker 2: be a collision. We are on air six point thirty
- 15:43Speaker 2: live from Hontas Center, Everett and now have the call
- 15:45Speaker 2: little past seven o'clock all across the Global Credit Union
- 15:48Speaker 2: Kraken Audio Network. Big thanks. If it's once again if
- 15:51Speaker 2: a cracking this morning. I'm Mike Benton. Enjoyed the game.
- 15:54Speaker 1: You're home for the Kraken Sports Radio ninety three point
- 15:57Speaker 1: three KJR FM.
