- 0:03[SPEAKER_01]: time for the 49ers rush podcast.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_00]: and here's your host, John Chapman.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: What is going on, faithful?
- 0:38[SPEAKER_01]: It is so great to be with you guys.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's Thursday, which means it's the coach approach, which means I'm here with my good friend.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: And from 49ers cut back, and how are we doing my man?
- 0:49[SPEAKER_00]: I am doing great in a schedule release day, which means we're going to get a lot more information about the 49er season.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: We can start locking in what our days look like, what Monday, Thursdays, you know, all those times you have to sneak away early from work, all that stuff, you don't get prepared for these games.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a really fun and exciting time.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: 49ers, you know, football is great during the offseason.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: The NFL does it better than anyone else of keeping that excitement rolling.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm pumped.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: That's also some pictures of Mike Evans catching the ball yesterday.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, oh, this is just crazy seeing him and a 49ers uniform.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I'm super pumped excited to be on the show and talking to you, John.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_01]: Mike Evans has tortured me throughout decades of my adulthood, you know, one, I hate A&M more than any other institution.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to call it that like in the world, hook them, but like he was so damn good there.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: And like him and the jolly man sell is just like, oh, disgusted me, but they were so freaking good.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: Then he goes to Tampa Bay.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: I've never really like Tampa Bay for whatever reason.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: I have no reason to really dislike him.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: But he's just been so
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's like the Richard Sherman thing.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like you get one of these Uber talented, so fun, player to root for that you're not allowed to root for.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: And then you get them on your side and it's just like, yes, like I feel like Mr. Burns, you know what I mean?
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: Just like X, like you know
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: And so like seeing those clips, which is fun and shout out to the 49ers media team, whatever.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: I hate all the non football stuff that they do, but whenever they finally do anything football, I'm like, oh, thank God.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, okay.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: There we go.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: My favorite thing that they've done so far this off season is where they failed the clip of, I think it was Deshaud Stribleen working on punt coverage and they labeled it like great route runner and it was just like, oh, that's so good.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: that's just tasty.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: I love them.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_01]: And so thank you to whoever is finally doing any type football stuff whatsoever.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: We are thankful.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: So today's episode, which I'm really excited about.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I also do have to apologize.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: The reason why we haven't had coach approach 100% my fault, just my craziness off the air is distracting the aunt and john saga.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: So I apologize for that take full responsibility.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: But today we're going to be bouncing back and forth between excitement and concerns.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: A nuanced take to the offense and defense kind of team is a whole to try to.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: kind of prod us into excitement, but check us back with the concerts because it's not the best roster since 1989 and it's not those things, but there is a lot to be excited about, but we're going to check that.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to be bouncy back and forth from that a demand.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: Shout out to a man, Kim Bro, he put this in the chat right before he went live.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: He says jumping out of flight finally getting back to Cali, going to miss the live show.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: The
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: you are the best of the best.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: It just want to say thank you for your generosity and the super chat there.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, safe travels, brother, hope all is well.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: But I wanted to start off selfishly because I don't know the answer to this.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: My favorite superhero movies are the origin like superhero movies, you know what I'm talking about.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: I need to know what made ant turn evil.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_01]: How did you start?
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: The whole streaming thing.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: I know you coached and I know there's been a journey, but man, can you share a little bit a little peek behind the curtains?
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: Just and how you got started in this process?
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: Because I get so many positive questions about you and comments about you.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: I just want I want to know more.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: I want to know more.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so it's, you know, it was really interesting how I got into it.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: So I was coaching like you said, and the school I was at, they actually sold the campus.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: They decided to sell it to a school district and became a charter school, and I took it as an opportunity, I wouldn't normally walk away from the kids, but it was an opportunity where it was a clean break.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: And so I took a step back and stepped away from coaching for a bit, and I was, you know, kind of sitting back and COVID was happening, and I said,
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: You know, what's going on?
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: And it got to draft time.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, you know, what, what, what about doing a podcast?
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: Could I do that?
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: And it was really humble beginnings.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: I started recording on my phone, just posting an audio platform, just what I thought of the, you know, the players that were going to be in the first round, second round of the draft that I thought the 40 years could be interested in.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: And then, you know, me and my friend just always kind of sit around and.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: and talk football and go on these long things about football so I talked to a couple friends and they ended up jumping on with me and we we got started doing that for a while and as time went on you know we entered the YouTube area it was a lot of learning a lot of bad quality stuff but we just worked through it until we got you know pretty good and then at some point
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: I was the last man standing.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody else was kind of doing their own thing and that's fine.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know, when things come up, life happens, you know, people go their own direction and I just continued to roll, continue to to learn and got to meet nice people along the way, little John, like you and, you know, I'm a nice guy.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: I'm in the nice category.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: I'll take it.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: The nice category.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, John was one of the first ones that ever jumped on, you know, when me and Alex were doing the show and shout out to Alex.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: Man, he's awesome.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so you know, everything has everything happened that way.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_00]: It was it was very humble beginnings.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we were we were not good at first.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: And I think we're always striving to get a little bit better, but it was yeah, this is just I just love football wanted to talk football miss coaching and this was an avenue for me to be able to talk about and use what I had learned through the years all the coaching clinics and all that the kind of talk about my passion which is football.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, I miss coaching clinics every time I see like because a lot of my buddies, they take part in that and they teach They do the travel and all that stuff, glaze your and whatever and I'm just like, hmm, maybe I'm going to go down there and just like hang out and just like have fun and then I never do it and I always kind of regret it.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm like me and do I got spoiled because it takes this high school coaches association would have you know, one every year and it was dude is incredible.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_01]: Kirby smart and examine that brown jet fisher like I've listened to a red and met a ridiculous amount of you know Whatever coaches and the college football and NFL coach would fight their asses off to get down there because they knew These guys are going you know if we get in with the coaches we're gonna get in with players You know with players so on so forth and so like it was cool, but
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: I need to get back into that.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: Now, for those of you that want to learn football, like, the coach clinic on YouTube is off the freaking charts.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like, they record that stuff and put it on there.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you just turn it on to watch how to defend odd man fronts, like, you know, whatever, or third and long.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: And you can just learn for it.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's incredible.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: So there's a lot out there.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_01]: But man, I want to say thank you for sharing some of your story.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I appreciate
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: the positivity you bring to the community.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's so easy to commit to the dark side and just go clickbait.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: There's more money in it.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_01]: There's more subscriptions in it.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: There's more clicks in it.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: There's more of that.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_01]: But it's hard work to come up with nuance, positive takes, and educate, and it's the slower ride to success.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: But I think it's way more fulfilling.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: And if there's anything that comes across from you and it's how much you enjoy this and so I just want to say thank you.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_01]: And if you want to support it, the best way to do that once, subscribe to the Fort Anner's Cutback whatever platform, whether that's YouTube, Spotify, Apple, doesn't matter.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: Please do that, but pay tree on guys.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: This is how we pay our bills.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: Patreon.com slash 49ers Cutback, go support.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: Go sign up while you can.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: He's putting so much content.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_01]: Can you share just a little bit about what you got going on in the next month or so and you know what all the draft stuff you have up on there is
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're working through the the draft picks right now and I'm going through the vision for each player as we go.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: So we're talking about what they're going to add to the team, how, you know, couching in plans, using them or what the role is going to be on defense and that's the focus.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: We're back at it up with some, you know, some film and stuff like that and kind of breaking it out.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: Right now, you can go get, you know, the video of dribbling.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: That's available, the video of Ramello, hi, and then I just put out the one about Kayla and black who,
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: He started reminding me of Devontae Freeman and then I went down that rabbit hole I think that he's a very much a Kyle Shanahan and Bobby Turner guy And I think it's more evident the more film you watch is they're kind of returning to more of that form of guy and realizing There's no Christian McAfrey's out there.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: We need to get guys that we've had success with and my first impression of Caleb Blackwood I was watching and be physical was
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: Is this a land is Gary like that was the first thing I saw with the contact and then after that I kind of landed on Freeman I'm like these guys are very similar build athleticism size everything so I think this is just them kind of in their will house so that's what I'm doing I'm working on the grace and holding one right now that'll be coming out probably in the next day or two.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get the grace and hold and video out there so everyone can see it because I just think that it's fun to see the vision for these guys And what they're gonna do the next, you know, season or two at least within this for him more scheme.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: I like it.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's funny you brought up Caitlyn Black because when you go back to tight-aven's price or trace sermon
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: Like, they use the same phrases.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: A big back with smaller back tendencies and smaller back feet, right?
- 10:08[SPEAKER_01]: That is not kidding, but can black's tiny.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: Like, like, I get people ask about can you play full back?
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, dude, this is smallest running back like in the draft class.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: Now he's jacked.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't miss a day of the weight room and whatever mighty mouse, but he's a small back with big back tendencies.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, again, I'm going to keep nobody, this is not going to catch on, but I don't care.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to catch up for A's Neo, like he is going to be the third round running back.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: That catches.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying he's going to be a pro baller or anything like that.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: But at least he's going to be on the roster and contribute in a healthy way.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: throughout his rookie contract, which the end of his rookie contract will be 29-year-old running back.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know what's going to be past that.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: But the consistency is there.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: You look at Tideva's price, and you look at Tracerman, they were splash players.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: Kaelan Black's not splashy at all.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you talk about the four games schedule that he had in the college football playoff, which was entertaining as hell.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: But like he's just a consistent guy and that is what the 49ers need is consistency and I would argue the overarching theme of this entire off season has been get consistency and you know, probably one of the biggest boom bus players last season was D winners.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: You let that dude go, Khalia Davis, you just let him walk for free.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: Jordan Elliott, see you, man.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: Like you let a lot of these guys that were just non-consistent players walk and you were placed on with a lot of consistency.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: So everybody goes support and I love it.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: Look at this Bobo.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: He says, I got listed in John and Ant because they actually pay attention to what we have to say, not just the super chat.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: Super chats are awesome.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: But this shows y'all show.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: And so Bobo, you know, I love you.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: And we disagree on most things, but that's okay.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: That's okay.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_01]: So let's stick with running backs.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna let you take this one because I gotta blow my nose, I apologize.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: I have still a little out of the weather.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: It take this way.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna pull the camera down.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be right back, okay.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: You got, it says biggest concern is how CMC will be used this season.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: I'm still on the use.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: uh him like debo train and split time between james and black of the backfield plate on just and juice at the edges uh this coming from Oscar uh you know i think that the Christian McAfrey thing is going to kind of figure itself out i think you look at the things that have been said
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: from coach Kubiak some of the things Christian McAfrey said but Kubiak was pretty clear like we've got to make sure there is time where Christian McAfrey's off the field we've got to do a good job as coaches and do a better job as getting McAfrey off and I think that there is a attitude towards that I think McAfrey also has gotten better even though he had the most touches and everything last year
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: There was a first time that I had seen him in his career, look over at the sideline and be like, hey, I need one.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: I need to, I need to come out.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think that the 49ers realized they got to find some balance.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's another reason why they've added to the running back room with Kaeland Black is they're trying to find some more balance behind Christian McAfrey.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_00]: And I think once they do figure out this rotation of running back, it could be Jordan James, it could be Kaeland Black.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to throw anyone out, but I think that that's when they'll finally feel comfortable with McAfrey coming off the field a little bit, but make no mistake.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: They're not replacing Christian McAfrey.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_00]: So when he comes off, it's a lot like Debo, the type of plays you run, the effective plays with him in the slot.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to change, so Kyle has some adjustment.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_00]: He may Bobby Turner have to have good communication of, hey, he's on the field or he's not.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: So that way Kyle doesn't get stuck in those situations where all of the sudden he has,
- 13:50[SPEAKER_01]: Kaylin black lined up out wide trying to run a vertical route and it's not just it's not going to work so there's going to be some communication things there and I think to you know my biggest concern so here here's how the show notes are designed for today and we always go off script.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_01]: That's okay.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_01]: Like what's the biggest concern for the offense what what are you most excited about for the offense same thing for the defense and there's a lot of bullet points there my number one concern is christian.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: Um, just a general.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_01]: Now, that's a great concern to have because he's so elite at so many different things.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_01]: Vision still a plus, plus route running hands, all that speed, major question mark the burst.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: We saw it disappear last year, but that his effectiveness is still there.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, 2000 total yards.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_01]: Come on, man.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like a insane.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_01]: What version of CMC are the 49ers going to get now?
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: last year you had no choice because you had such a terrible wide receiver core.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: You couldn't take about the field because you didn't have no receiving options.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: You have remedied that situation.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_01]: You have brought in receiver after receiver after receiver after receiver, to a drafted free age.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_01]: You spend your number one choice on the Sean Strybling.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_01]: You paid my evidence.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: You bring in Kirk like you have revamped the wide receiver room.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_01]: does that lesson, the dependability, maybe that's wrong.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_01]: We're dependent on Christian McAfrey playing so much and getting so many touches.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think that that lessons a little bit this season?
- 15:20[SPEAKER_01]: I can't go up, right?
- 15:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like you can't have them for touches that he did last year, Kenny.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_00]: No, I don't think so.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think it does.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_00]: It does lessen the burden on Christian McAfrey.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: Last year, you were using him to try to not just get him open, but sometimes just manipulate the defense his eyes.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 15:37[SPEAKER_00]: You see them do this with Debo Samuel all the time.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_00]: If I can dangle Debo over here with emotion or move him around, it'll get some eyes on him.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_00]: And so Kyle Shenan did that sometimes with Christian McAfrey.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: And he had to.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you had Joanne Jennings playing X.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I have no problems with Joanne Jennings.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's a very good receiver in the NFL.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: So you had to find ways to get him matchups that were good and one of those ways is use Christian McCaffrey who's a do it all.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_00]: You move him around.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_00]: You put him in motion.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_00]: You get people's attention with him and he's a guy that can get it done.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_00]: He was also your number one playmaker with the ball in his hands.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_00]: He's still the guy that can do the most with it because you just George Kittle.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_00]: He's a guy that was drawing double coverage a lot like
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: They knew what they were doing.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_00]: Now you add Mike Evans.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to hopefully have a healthy Ricky Pierce all, but Christian Kirk's there to insulate just in case.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: You add just on dribbling.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: You've added weapons now around Christian McCaffer that there shouldn't be so much of a burden on him.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_00]: I also think with Jordan James going into year two and the addition of Katelyn Black,
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: you've got a little bit better running back room depth-wise.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: They've kind of replaced that Jordan Mason player that can kind of step in and play.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that's big.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: I also wouldn't be shocked if they go out and they find another veteran eventually, the edge of the roster.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_00]: I got like Elijah Mitchell to come in and compete for a chance to maybe be, you know, running back three or four because I don't think they're completely sold on what they got
- 17:00[SPEAKER_01]: And so I I like this question and I kind of want to rephrase it shout out to Logan and either Jordan James or play who gets more touches this season if you had to guess Jordan James or K-Long Black
- 17:15[SPEAKER_00]: I think right now the leader of the club has got to be Jordan James played in the offense already one whole season.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm hoping that Bobby Turner and Kyle Chen and just say, he know what you guys go out and battle this thing out, right?
- 17:26[SPEAKER_00]: I hope it's like the Joker.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_00]: They break the stick and say, hey, try outs right now, right?
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: Go for it.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_00]: Come.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_00]: Pettin' him extension because I really want these guys to compete at the highest level, and I think we're going to see them a lot during the preseason as well, so it's going to be whoever wins that battle is going to end up getting the most touches.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_00]: I think they both are really good.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think James has a little bit of a head start because of everything that happened last year and him being able to learn this offense.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I agree.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: I would go short in James as well.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, shoot, you look at short in James and the draft pick that they put in him.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was a fifth rounder versus a third for K-Lone Black, so like the draft capital would say the other way around.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_01]: But I hope they both get work.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_01]: I really, really do.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_01]: I hope they both get work.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_01]: And this running back room, you have to use your players.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_01]: and you cannot be so dependent on Christian McAfrey.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_01]: I really hope that they diversify just a little bit.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_01]: We've seen that in Shanna Hence, 10 years ago back to his time with Atlanta.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, shoot like Tevin Coleman, the Freeman, like that was awesome.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get some more of that.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_01]: You talked about how close Kaling Black is to Freeman.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'd like to see more of that.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_01]: So here is my question to you.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_01]: Let's post it on the other side.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about a concern.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go for something you're excited about on the offensive side.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: What is it that just something that has changed or could be the same that you're really excited about seeing this year for the 49ers' offense?
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'm excited to see Mike Evans, you know, playing on the outside of legitimate X receiver that teams respect.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_00]: You want to put one-on-one with Mike Evans?
- 19:00[SPEAKER_00]: Well, do it at your own peril because he can go up over the top of you and make a play when it looks like he's covered.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that that is a big weapon.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: Abrock pretty disposal, but it's not just Mike Evans.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_00]: They have added in this room with a players that are consistent in guys who have speed.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's dribbling and curt.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: Those guys are going to be good role players this year.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: We already know a democracy Robinson can do and then Ricky Pierce all I mean this is the best situation for Ricky Pierce all he stays healthy.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: He will have a really good season with the attention that's going to be paid to my Kevin so the attention is going to be paid to other players around him so I think it could be huge but yeah I'm most excited to see number five out there catching the football and making plays because I do think that this is going to threaten Seattle and threaten other teams to kind of move those safety's back you know two three yards.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of people don't think that's a lot, but when you're talking about the run game and how successful you want to be at that space, that's the difference we want to go safety is getting there and hitting Christian McAfrey three yards beyond the line of scrimmage and five or six yards beyond the line of scrimmage that gives him space to be able to make something happen and turn what could be a three yard gain into a seven or.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: 10 yard gain and those are huge things.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_00]: Open things up also that middle part of the field starts opening up as teams have to worry about Evans going deep or dribbling going deep and all of a sudden you have two high safety looks all the time and they can't run that alert concept where they want to bring that robber over the middle of the field and stuff.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_00]: So it changes defense entirely.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's it's funny because I put I want to see Brock with the true deep threat wide receiver.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_01]: like we we go back to the bread and I you can kind of you know his role and whatever like he did a lot of things amazingly well but like it's a true deep threat guy you know most of his stuff was on post or post corners or you know deep in breakers did whatever like it wasn't a vertical threat it wasn't part of his game but it wasn't really whatever
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: I want to know if Brock can finally facilitate that vertical passing game and that back shoulder fade, like my Kevin's is a specialist that had Sean Stribley's made for it.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, that to Sean Stribley gets to learn behind my Kevin's for a year or two, like, oh, already a super high floor type guy.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_01]: Now he gets to learn from the master, right?
- 21:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like, like, that is just incredible.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_01]: I think that Brock, his best trait is accuracy and decision making, if he can incorporate this downfield vertical passing attack, it's you, we could even throw in Jordan Walkins because I think Jordan Walkins, that's his best trait is stacking corners vertically whenever really got to see it last year, but now you have not won't not two but three true X vertical wide receivers that can go out there and stretch the field vertically.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_01]: it just it changes everything like you said I mean I remember
- 21:49[SPEAKER_01]: Coaching and we would usually you know 14 yard flat foot read on the hash.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: That's where we would put our safeties and we were a cover 14 And you know, we would play teams that were really good at running and we'd we'd bump it up.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to be 12 and a half this week And the safeties would be like, no, I don't like it.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_01]: I don't like it.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_01]: I don't like it.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_01]: But like that yard and half those two yards changes It really does because now you're there to help in the run game at the second level as opposed to if you're back yard and a half.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_01]: There's a little bit of a crease there.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_01]: You got to be careful with that
- 22:19[SPEAKER_01]: just manipulating the defensive scheme from the safety position with vertical threats.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't have to be successful, but if the threat is there where the defense is scared, Ricky Pierce saw his more room to operate.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_01]: George Kidder when he comes back has more room to operate.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_01]: And Chris McCaffrey has more room to operate.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like it just opens up everything underneath that two yard cushion.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: Ah.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_01]: I hope that they could do it.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: Shout out to Mike right here.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_01]: I can't wait to see what Perti can do with this wide receiver crew.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I want to talk a little bit about Kurt.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think once Deshawn Stribbling was drafted, 33rd overall, everybody just automatically assumed, okay, well, he's got to be the third wide receiver, the big slot role, which I think that he will play some of that.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: How do you envision this wide receiver core shaking out early in the season?
- 23:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's going to go probably Christian Kirk's going to be the guy they look at first to be that third receiver.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think they brought him here for a reason.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_00]: He's very experienced.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's paid.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_00]: He's very experienced in understanding what defensive coverage is look like.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: So he knows where to get, where to sit down, where to be.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to be a consistent player for Brock.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_00]: Brock can trust.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to be where he's supposed to be when he's supposed to be there.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_00]: But then after that, I think one stripling starts coming around and really getting a feel of this offense.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_00]: Then you can go by the personnel you're going against against the coverage that you're going against.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_00]: What kind of look do I want?
- 23:49[SPEAKER_00]: Do I want somebody that's going to press things vertically up the seam coming from the slot?
- 23:54[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe you have stripling out there in that moment and it impacts what the defense does.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_00]: But also, when you get into the run game, you want to run the ball in a 11 personnel look,
- 24:07[SPEAKER_00]: they've got a big nickel, let's get Christian Kirk out there.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_00]: Let's let him operate in space and be able to create separation on his own.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_00]: So I think they're going to kind of work at that way after a while, but I think initially it's going to be Christian Kirk, and they'll let you John Strible and kind of work in, but make no mistake.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_00]: They want to take advantage of that size, weight and speed, visibility to threaten teams vertical.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to come up with some of these matchups every once in a while where you're going to get him on a safety in coverage and and dribbling just too fast for all.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_00]: There's not very many safety's in the league that can rumble just on dribbling.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_00]: And those are going to be the explosives that changed the way the defenses play the 49ers overall.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_01]: And that was one of the things that was absent last year.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_01]: You didn't have a lot of explosives, especially when Matt Jones was in, right?
- 24:49[SPEAKER_01]: It was checked down, checked down, checked down like whatever, but you look at what
- 24:54[SPEAKER_01]: I saw some stats today on Twitter and I probably should have bookmarked it so I could give credit.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_01]: It was like best passing percentage on third and eight plus.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: And Brock party was like five percentage points higher than the number two quarterback.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_01]: Like it wouldn't even close.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_01]: He's a big play machine and he can extend and right here Bobo.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like the footwork and getting out of jams and extending plays.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: He's great at that, but it was hard when to Marcus Robinson's your best wide receiver in the playoffs for two games like that's to Marcus Robinson might be the best wide receiver five in the NFL.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: He was wide receiver one for us last year in the playoffs because.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: you had, Recapiers all banged up and, you know, Joanne Jennings, both those games just like completely disappeared.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: It was difficult.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have that problem anymore.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_01]: And like right here Logan, like Tobargas Robinson might not even be on this team.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think he makes this roster.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_01]: He's two-day of consistent, two good in the red zone.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_01]: but like to that wide receiver room.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_01]: Listen to just the names, okay?
- 25:58[SPEAKER_01]: Usually keep five or six.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_01]: Here we go.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_01]: Mike Evans, Ricky Pearsaw, Christian Kirk, Marcus Robinson, Sean Stribmon, Jordan Walkins, Jacob County, Malik Turner, Colton Dall, Junior Purgon, and then two undrafted free agents will Paul and Wesley Grimes.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, have those guys again cut!
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: Jacob Coward you come on man.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's now where you're going elsewhere.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: You're about to be discarded if you don't show up This room the competition level.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I'm excited about like I remember being on shows last year with you where we knew pretty much what the 53 man was and we had like one or two guys I like yeah, maybe this guy this guy two.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what the hell's gonna happen now
- 26:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I think you look a wider receiver, even offensive line, you can argue that we don't know exactly who the starters are going to be at some positions, but when you talk about the depth at the position, they've done a really good job with offensive lines.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_00]: Some good players are going to get cut, probably good young players that are going to get cut.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: You look at defensive line, linebacker.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: corner back even.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_00]: They've done a very good job of building units that add depth to this football team.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, I mean, this is, it's going to be crazy when they get to the end of training camp.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_00]: The war of attrition will probably claim a couple of guys.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_00]: So that'll kind of thin some things out at certain positions.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_00]: But I hope everyone stays healthy in the 40 years have to make some big decisions and have to build this roster.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_00]: And they're going to have to use the populist.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_00]: That's why you're starting to hear names like McEl Williams and George Kittle.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_00]: And if they're friends, they're not going to hang on to these guys like they did who fall and then say, well, they might be back by week three, they're going to put them out for the first four games so they don't lose players within this roster and it makes it a little bit more difficult because they probably want to keep Curtis Roark as well.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's a third quarterback.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: You have to worry about that last year.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_00]: So a little bit more roster versus the till he's going to be needed.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_00]: Probably why Vid area and low was brought in an actual swing tackle.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_00]: So I would they don't have to have two tackles.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_00]: That's one way to kind of ease up that transition from having two quarterbacks to three.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_01]: Now, sticking with the wide receiver room, shout out to Maria, who could be partner?
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: Because it's, I mean, spent a draft pick last year on junior Bergen, dude, it's just so slow.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm proud that he's still on the roster and still fighting, and you know, I'm rooting for him.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: I don't see it.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_01]: But Jacob Cowling, Jordan, walk in.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, are you confident enough in this wide receiver room that you put Ricky Pierce all back there, even with all the injuries, like, is it okay to put Pierce all back there to be a
- 28:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think the only way they put Pierce all back there is if for some reason they decide walk-ins and cowling on on this team.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think if walk-ins and cowling are on this team, a big reason why they're handling punt return duties.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I think one of those guys is the most likely, and I think those guys is going to be interesting, right?
- 28:42[SPEAKER_00]: That's going to be Kyle Shandon and Brand Boyer together making it a decision on what's best for the 49ers.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_00]: Jacob Cowling and Jordan Hawkins, they got to show out on offense because Kyle wants players that are going to contribute on offense, but he also wants players that are going to help on special team.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_00]: So you got to be a dual threat.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think Boyer's going to say, hey, he might say, hey, I like Cowling better in this situation.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_00]: And Kyle's like, but I want walk ins can walk ins be serviceable and brand boyer can sign off on it.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_00]: So those are one of the things that's going to be interesting is the given take between special teams.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_00]: and position coaches and, of course, the coordinators in deciding who makes it.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think Cowling and Watkins is going to be one of the funnest battles to watch all training came to prison.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_00]: I hope they stay healthy all the time.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think it'll be a lot of fun.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think so too.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_01]: And, Dexter, are they done at wide receiver where they get another one?
- 29:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're done.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the 49ers approach almost every single time post draft is, all right, do we miss out on this position?
- 29:35[SPEAKER_01]: Let's add one or two.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_01]: You had it four wide receivers like I just cannot see them going to bet you know the AJ Brown thing don't see it just doesn't make sense.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_01]: They're loaded in that room.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be rough to kind of break down and whatever else.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know your thoughts on that.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think the only way they would is if it was somebody that they thought was going to put them over the top that ended up being super cheap, right?
- 30:03[SPEAKER_00]: It would have to be somebody that felt was impactful.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_00]: They could add that wasn't going to cost a lot of capital.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think AJ Brown's going to cost a lot when you're talking about what you're going to trade for and potentially, and then you give them a new contract.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that one's realistic.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_00]: I don't trust the source completely either.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_00]: So there's a lot of stuff going on.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think a lot of that has not been right about really anything with the 49ers.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_00]: for sure, and so I'm not I'm not really taking a lot into that, but I think if the right situation came up or if they decided that one of those guys wasn't going to work out as returner then I could see them adding somebody maybe into the fold that's when you could hear them call on their old friend debo Samuel and say hey you're going to come in and handle return duties something like that but other than that I don't I don't see for see them going I think they addressed it very much so in the off season.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I like that.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_01]: Right here, Jordan, thank you.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate the Super Chat.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_01]: John, love to show.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: How do we bet with you guys?
- 30:58[SPEAKER_01]: So I finished contract negotiations, whatever, which is a weird part of the job with my bookie again.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to be back with my bookie again this year.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we will post our bets every single week and so you'll be able to bet with us.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: That's over on our patreon in the 49ers rush.com We do that on our Jerry Rice tier and above.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: So it's 20 bucks a month You get all of our video breakdowns or zoom hangouts or bets of the week all that stuff and you get a bet along with us Which I think three out of the last four years we posted profits, which is great last year We did really really well
- 31:30[SPEAKER_01]: We've had one down here out of those, but overall if you bet with us, you're you're doing pretty good and we cover our expenses and then some so that's up at the 49ers rush.com So check that out and man y'all take you know.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_01]: I love you bro.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_01]: He says, John today is the day we found out what week.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_01]: I won't be seeing John in New York City
- 31:51[SPEAKER_01]: I love you.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_01]: The wife only gives me so much room and it's hard.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_01]: We went to New York last year and it was incredible.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_01]: The family was awesome.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_01]: I like New York, but we'll see.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_01]: The schedule comes out today.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_01]: How are you feeling about the schedule?
- 32:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like where are you on a scale of like 1 to 10?
- 32:08[SPEAKER_01]: How important this is to you like do you enjoy this or you just like screw it?
- 32:11[SPEAKER_01]: Let me know when it's out.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_00]: I very much enjoyed.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_00]: I like the fact that we get little leaks now.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_00]: You know, kind of get building anticipation.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we know the 49ers are going to travel 38,000 miles or something like it's ridiculous.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm curious what the NFL is going to do as far as giving the 49ers a solid for them playing two international games this year.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_00]: Super exciting for fans.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_00]: I love that.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the Australia, Mexico City.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_00]: That's great.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_00]: Great fan bases.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's
- 32:39[SPEAKER_00]: a global team.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_00]: So it is going to be good to see that, but the same regard, I want to see what they're doing to help the 49ers when it comes to back-to-back travel, East Coast travel, 10 o'clock, start times, all of that.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_00]: And of course, I'm always excited to see prime time, because those are the games that everyone kind of circles, that moment where everyone's focused on the 49ers and whatever team they're playing.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_00]: And hopefully one of those is the cowboy, so that everyone can see the cowboys get blasted again in prime time.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_01]: and the astralia tailgate, which like all the Aussies are like dude, I want to do the American tailgate.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to start at 630 in the morning, bro.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's 630 in the morning, bro.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_01]: But hey, when down under, you got to do what you got to do.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 33:23[SPEAKER_01]: So it is there.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_01]: And we will be in Besco, Doc Savage.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_01]: He says, excited about Mexico City.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_01]: See you in the rush crew there.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_01]: Just the wait till last minute, ticking by in strategy, work in Mexico City, or should I grab tickets, ASAP.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_01]: Here's what I tell people all the time, okay?
- 33:38[SPEAKER_01]: Now, international, a little bit different.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_01]: get your hotels and get your travel the airline tickets whatever right off the bat don't wait for those I always wait for tickets and even in Mexico City we're putting together travel packages where tickets are included in that so like if if that's a concern for you we're going to have those up by the end of the week for Mexico we already have them up for Australia go to 49ers rushrochip.com

- 34:15[SPEAKER_01]: Those 500% guarantee, no matter when they are.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_01]: Day before rally, all includes the tailgate premium tailgate.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: Those are up now 49ers rushroadtrip.com.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: Now we have some maybe cities.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_01]: That if it's not backed back to back travel, that's the thing I look for too.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like the back to back weeks, I can't do it.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_01]: I just can't do it and I already know it's got to be like Dallas did Kansas City the next week and I'm just going to be like, oh my gosh.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: But it's got to happen.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_01]: So go to 49ers for us for a trip.com.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: Where he got tickets up for those five games will add some more to ignore the dates.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_01]: Schedule comes out tonight.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'll probably go live again tonight once the schedule does come out.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_01]: just so I could, you know, check this and check that and just update, hey, we're 100% going to be here, but whenever you do get your game tickets and this is simple, take pick as the best there is pure and simple.

- 35:51[SPEAKER_01]: Shoutout to Sin and anything that brings community, I freaking love it.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_01]: She asks, is anyone going on the red and gold cruise this summer with the two, four, nine, four, and I didn't even know about this.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_01]: The first time I've heard about it, but man, it sounds awesome.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_01]: Shoutout, she sends just the sweetest human being in the world.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_01]: That's where Shoutout to Joe, her husband.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_01]: He's really, really nice, but he's a Eagles fan.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_01]: but you know, we give them the benefit of the doubt just by association.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_01]: So shout out to you guys.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know anything about that.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not planning on going this summer's too crazy, but maybe next year, it will see there.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_01]: Now, let's flip the script to the defensive side.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go negative first because we just went positive.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_01]: We got a balance.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_01]: This is much as possible.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_01]: What is a concern that you have on the defensive side of the ball that just kind of like man wish they would have done
- 36:45[SPEAKER_01]: Where do you stand on that?
- 36:47[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's safety.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_00]: I just, I don't know exactly what we're going to get.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_00]: I want to give some grace to a guy like Malik who's off who was coming off at ACL and he kind of got back into the mix late.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that that is something that definitely impacted his play last year.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't see the consistency.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't see some of the things we saw at his rookie season.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_00]: But I expect him to bounce back.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_00]: So I think in that regard, I think the 49ers are going to be okay with Malik who's staff are playing safety.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_00]: But I think the other position is completely up in the air.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_00]: They drafted Marky Seagull, they love the versatility, because a guy that showed some corner skills can play in the slot.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_00]: So he's the kind of modern day safety you're looking for, that can kind of do it all, play in the box, play deep, fantastic, tackler.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_00]: But him and Jair Brown were just so inconsistent last year and for a guy like Marky Seagull, it's less about not being in the right places, but not being able to finish.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_00]: He just didn't finish a lot of plays.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, one that sticks out to me is the Terrence Ferguson, you know, play where he's right there in Ferguson said pocket.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_00]: He just can't make the play on the ball.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_00]: And those are the types of things that Marky Seagull needs to have to go his way.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_00]: Now it will be a second year, which means he's got a firm understanding of the defense.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_00]: He was thrust into starting lineup.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_00]: Now he's got defensive coach Jerry Gray to help him as well.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_00]: That's going to be impactful.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that those things are going to be huge for him moving forward.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_00]: So I look for Marky Seagull to take this step forward.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_00]: And then I'm hoping that giant brown comes in and competes and plays hard and we see more of what we saw is rookie season and the last two years are more so and anomaly so let's let's see what can happen, but I think they could have addressed that room.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think they still could add somebody the only problem with that is you look at that room and they like to stash saran Neil as that for safety, so they could use them and then just kind of bump somewhat up from the practice squad every week.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know what they're going to do that, but that would be my biggest concern on defense.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's safety in the chat.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I put my notes safety safety safeties.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_01]: Like, like, that is it.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_01]: You didn't add anybody.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_01]: I like Jalen Strowman.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that was a good pickup priority for agent wise, but he's more of what you have.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_01]: He's a big nickel box safety, four, six, not speed, back end guy.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_01]: You got SQL that's fast.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody else in that room is fast.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody else, four, five, four, six, you know, kind of thumpers.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_01]: you're betting on coaching and hopefully that comes through.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_01]: I love to bet on players and contract years, which that's where, you know, Jaiya Brown is.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_01]: This is last year and there is no market for safeties.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_01]: So if he plays like he did the last two years, like that's where it's not getting a contract anywhere.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_01]: Like people are just not signing safeties.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_01]: They're just
- 39:29[SPEAKER_01]: it's the most valued position in the NFL.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_01]: And because of that, the 49ers have just said shoulder shrug, hopefully coaching fixes it.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_01]: And if it doesn't, we'll just sign somebody off to scrap.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_01]: He a week before the season, just like they did with Tation Gibson, like they've done that time and time again.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 39:47[SPEAKER_01]: hopefully something shows because Jair Brown was the worst player in training camp in preseason last year.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_01]: Like he was God awful and it was crazy at that one two-interception game which was awesome.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_01]: But again, back to this idea of consistency.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_01]: two's given up the most touchdowns on the team past two years.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_01]: He has the most missed tackles like horrible angles.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_01]: So many of his missed tackles don't even register because he can't even get a handle in the defender.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's like man, the consistency has to happen.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_01]: And so the football IQ has to come through what he has.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's just the technique and I don't know, swinging for the fences all the time and like that's got to go by the wayside.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_01]: So this is where I wanna see things.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_01]: Now the counterpoint has been, well there's no pass rush.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_01]: There's no pass rush.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_01]: So what did the safety supposed to do?
- 40:36[SPEAKER_01]: Which I totally understand.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_01]: Pass rush doesn't have to do a missed tackles.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_01]: Pass rush doesn't have to do with missed assignments.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_01]: And so yeah, you gotta figure that out
- 40:50[SPEAKER_01]: but also Fred Warner, like, the, I would argue the best coverage linebacker in the history of the sport.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_01]: That helps the safeties, you know, Raheem does a little bit more Tampa two drops.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_01]: Remember he was back, you know, in the 90s Tampa Bay bucks back with, yeah, you know, that Monte Kiffin, and all those guys, like literally the Tampa two, he was part of that coaching staff.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_01]: I want more Tampa two, like I,
- 41:14[SPEAKER_01]: utilize Fred Warner in that way.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_01]: That helps the safety that helps everybody out.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_01]: So what are your thoughts with where he morphs and how that's going to help the safety's, you have the position coach Jerry Gray who's a legend, but more of a scheme factor in how that could benefit the safety's moving forward.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think he's going to do a lot of things to benefit the safety.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's does a really good job of kind of masking some of the issues with the back in players, but then also putting them in really good situations to be successful.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's going to be different looks and different things that are going to help.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_00]: I think even Diya Brown has talked about that a little bit.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yet, an interview where he talked about, he's excited about where he more is going to do.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_00]: I do think that the pressure up front's going to help a lot with these guys, but I also think the communication factors going to be huge with Fred Warner.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think we saw that that room kind of spin out of control that safety room when Fred Warner was out and I think a big reason why is if you look at the 49ers kind of through the shane hand John Lynch era, they always had a key veteran that was back there that was helping right you had Jimmy Ward.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_00]: and then when Jimmy Ward was out then all the sudden next thing you know you had to Sean Gibbs and they always had a stabilizing force that last year they were rolema three young guys there wasn't that guy then the back end.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_00]: They were expecting Jair Brown to be that guy.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_00]: They were expecting Malk Mustafa.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_00]: They weren't ready yet.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think that that's something that they missed, especially when Fred Warner was out.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_00]: They thought you saw a lot of confusion there, but I expected to be simplified.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_00]: I expect the past rush to help.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I expect the communication to be a lot better between those guys.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_00]: I also think that Malik, we stop in Marky Seagull are going to step up vocally now that they're kind of get into their second and third seasons.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that that's going to help a lot on the back end as well.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I like that.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_01]: And right here from Cinnamon.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm going to think positively and hopefully about Jaya Broward and Ricky Pierce all two players that I've been down on.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_01]: They've got to be more consistent.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_01]: That is key.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_01]: That is key.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_01]: Big toe, appreciate Super Chat.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_01]: Made a brisket this past Saturday.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_01]: Me and Larry were talking barbecue yesterday.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_01]: First time in the Weber grill just came out
- 43:24[SPEAKER_01]: Perfect type for barbecue always brisk it's my favorite.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_01]: Do you have a favorite barbecue like do you have a favorite go to Not really I just love it all No, I mean California.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_01]: That's how yeah California.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_00]: No, yeah, yeah, I'm from California because I like I would take tacos over barbecue That's how you know I'm from California.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like give me some tacos That is my jam show show me a taco truck And I'm gonna I'm gonna go with it, but yeah, I do like barbecue, but
- 43:48[SPEAKER_00]: And I barbecue some, but I, I will take tacos and Mexican food over in every single day.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_01]: I got to get you to Dallas or Kansas City this year.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm telling you, we've got to find a way, guys.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_01]: We've got to find a way.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get this guy down there.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go to the other side.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_01]: Excitement.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_01]: For me, this is easy.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to steal it.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to Steve Nash, and I just took it away, Gary Peyton.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_01]: I'm still in a pack.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_01]: Look.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_01]: I missed my favorite player in the NFL last year, Drake Greenlaw, and I missed.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_01]: I saw Fred Warner's foot face the wrong way on Tampa Bay.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was horrible.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_01]: Fred Warner and Drake Greenlaw returning the best linebacker room in the NFL returning.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_01]: Are you kidding me?
- 44:36[SPEAKER_01]: We go from Tatum, Bethoon, Eric Kintrix, Garrett,
- 44:44[SPEAKER_01]: I don't care about, I care about a lot of things.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_01]: My childhood memories are Navarro Bowman, Patrick Willis, Kinnor and Jr. Bill Romanowski, you know how to be like, minebackers have always been my thing.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I played.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's what I coached.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_01]: We get a sea tray and on top of that, Navarro Bowman's not coaching this year, which means we're already talking with his agent, working them out to some of the 40 hours of rush road trips this year.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_01]: I freaking love Navarro, my second favorite player ever.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, I'm just so pumped about the linebacker's in it.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it's, it's, we get to watch Drake Greenlock kill people on the field, and I'm thankful.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the attitude, right?
- 45:26[SPEAKER_00]: It comes back.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that that's a big part of defense is that attitude and that fear that players are gonna have on the opposing offense.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's a real thing.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_00]: You're worried about going over the middle when five, sevens there.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_00]: You worry about, you know, toten the rock when he's gonna stick you in the hole.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_00]: That type of attitude will permeate.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_00]: And then next thing you know, they're gonna fly around.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of like the old bass brother staying, right?
- 45:47[SPEAKER_00]: You walk to mighty ducks.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_00]: You know, what Fulton reads like, am I just Mr. Bash?
- 45:51[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you know, you can't be by yourself.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_00]: You gotta have your bass brother.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_00]: So, I think that's what Fred Warner and Drake Greenland are going to really kind of get going together.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I think they added a lot of attitude guys, right?
- 46:02[SPEAKER_00]: You looked up and stout.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_00]: He's a guy that plays with a lot of attitude and fierceness, a Diomra, the North's always talking trash.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_00]: Jack Jones, you might as well just say he's going to be out there talking if he even makes this team.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_00]: They added a lot when it comes to attitude and I think that's something they were missing for sure You got to have guys that are out there and they're just putting some fear into some people and I think that that lineback a room definitely does that and one question I have for you John.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's going to be interesting is the same linebacker job You got Tade and Bethel and I think he's the most obvious, but what it not be the coolest thing if it was Nick Martin
- 46:37[SPEAKER_00]: And what do you think about Nick Martin playing that role?
- 46:39[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe having a little bit of the hybrid role with that speed coming off the edge.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'm interested in what you think of Nick Martin playing take the same job from Tate and Bethan.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_01]: It was weird whenever Nick Martin first came here, and they're like, no, he's a will.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like, he's just a will, and that's what he's gonna be.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_01]: But then he got that one start at Sam, but he got a concussion before he ever even got his first defensive snap play.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_01]: He got the concussion on kickoff coverage.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was, stayed out there for two plays and came off, and then season was over, just like that.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_01]: But like, I think that fans forget, he earned the starting role.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_01]: injuries happen, especially to 49ers players.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and like that's what it was, but he got to the point where he fought and earned that role.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think that the Drake Green Law signing does the most for Nick Martin.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_01]: And the similar way that Mike Evans does for Stripling.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_01]: Now Nick Martin is a
- 47:47[SPEAKER_01]: He was the least experienced player, the 49ers drafted over the past three seasons combined.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_01]: You could add in this draft, the least amount of experience of the last three draft classes combined, then he gets entered and missed, you know, that entire year.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_01]: So, how do you see Nick Martin, I see him as crazy upside energy, tackling machine, all those things, coverage is a major liability.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_01]: man, he can get after the passers so well.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_01]: I would prefer Nick Martin win that job.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_01]: I do think Tate on Bethoon probably has the experience and the trust and all that kind of stuff.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_01]: He can't cover very well either.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_01]: And then you throw in, you know, Jay and Dougher, who that dude is built to play that position, his film is rough.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's rough.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_01]: I want Nick Martin to win
- 48:41[SPEAKER_01]: But the signing of Drake Greenlaw allows you to just say, hey, Nick Martin, it's not to make a break here.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_01]: Learn some more, get some more reps. Hopefully it works out at the same spot.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_01]: If not, guess what?
- 48:54[SPEAKER_01]: Drake Greenlaw is going to go get paid next year.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_01]: Then you can step in and compete for the will spot.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see what that looks like.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_01]: I want Nick Martin to win it.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_01]: If you're going for consistency, I'm not sure if he brings that.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what's your your floor to state guy.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_01]: You take a bet, dude, I feel like that's who you're pulling for a little bit.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_00]: I like Tatum Betham, but honestly, I see the upside with Nick Morton, you know, I mean, you see the athleticism, the aggressiveness that he plays with, no one can say that Nick Morton doesn't come downhill and absolutely light people up like the dudes, a lettric.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I look at him and I say, and I watch him in training camp last year, really struggle with some of the drops and things like that, just with the footwork, it was rough.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that he made a lot of improvements during the season.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_00]: But if he could win that role, if he could outright beat Tatum Bethune out, he is more athletic, he is faster, he's more explosive, this dude packs a punch.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_00]: I think he does give you more versatility to rush off the edge as well if you wanted somebody that could do that in some certain looks.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_00]: But I think that that could potentially be one of those lineback rooms that rivals the Fred Warner Drake Green Lossies outshire, if Nick Martin hits.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, because that dude is, that dude has got outshired potential written all over him.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that that would be just a, a really great linebacker room.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_00]: I think to Bethune's got the, the edge he's played Mike, he understands his defense inside now.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_00]: He's gotten better in coverage and he, he plays the run really well with your Samlinebacker has to do.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_00]: But Nick Martin is the guy.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, this is the upside.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_00]: This is the guy that can go get it done.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm pulling for Nick Martin actually in this situation because I want the best possible linebacker room for the 49ers.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_01]: Ah, it's just so freaking good.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, right here, the Wisconsin Badger says, linebacker room is thin, if you assume Greenlaw misses time, like, you've got Luke Gifford, who, you know, Pro Bowl special teamer, I understand nobody wants him out there, but that dude's got five years experience as the number three linebacker, like, it's not ideal, but you can have him out there.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_01]: Tate on Bethoon, you got Jayden Dugger, the kind of prospect rookie guy,
- 51:03[SPEAKER_01]: But man, J.L.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_01]: and Graham, you've got Garrett Wallow.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_01]: Those are not bad players.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's not what you want.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_01]: They're special teamers with upside.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_01]: And then you just sign Larry Worth, who beat out, it comes in for a rookie try.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_01]: I love those kind of guys.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I love cycling the back into the roster and saying, hey, nobody's safe.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think Derek Cantine did it the previous year.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_01]: Like somebody that goes out there and earns it.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_01]: This guy belongs.
- 51:30[SPEAKER_01]: He shows up and you want to, I love this linebacker room.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_01]: I just think that it is just off the freaking charts, man.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_01]: I really, really do now.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_01]: Doug says, you know, what's the backstory with Martin and the Niners?
- 51:43[SPEAKER_01]: He was a Robert Sala, a hand-picked guy.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_01]: Um, Robert saw it's not here anymore.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_01]: Johnny Holland is a Johnny Holland, you know, I mean, you have scouted successful linebackers in the past.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_01]: And you got rid of T winners, which I thought was a great move for D winners and the Niners and the Cowboys.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that was a win win win.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_01]: What do your thoughts on Jayden Tucker have you watched him a lot.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_01]: Films rough.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_01]: The prototypes are great.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_00]: yeah i think that he's a project i think they knew he was a project i think you look at him and i think larry worth as well these guys are kind of built of the same way just got duger with a little bit more size i mean he's going about two forty uh... with worth going about two twenty five so you know difference in and body but this is the vision for twenty twenty seventy fence and beyond uh... for him more send this defense when they're looking to be multiple
- 52:31[SPEAKER_00]: They want to be able to not have to run personnel on to go from a 4-3 to a 3-4.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_00]: They want to be able to change from play to play, and if you can actually get the hybrid players to be able to do that with a guy who can play off ball and rush the pass around the edge, which I think that that's what he was looking at in Atlanta too.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_00]: then offense is can't prepare for what you're going to be doing.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_00]: It changes a lot of different things on offense about where you're going with your bench marks as far as running the ball.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_00]: What you're doing in coverage how you're setting up pass protection.
- 53:00[SPEAKER_00]: So this is something they're developing.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_00]: Dougher's going to be a developmental player.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_00]: He's not going to make it impact in 2026, but this is a long-term play for the 49ers.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_00]: That's why as rough as the film was.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_00]: They understand where they could go and I never bet against Johnny Holland's when it comes to developing linebackers because we've seen him do it think about all the big contracts his linebackers have gotten out there from seize out shy or Fred Warner, Drake Greenlaw They develop really good linebackers in this system and I think that that's what they're hoping they're going to do and that's why they got two guys that can kind of do the same thing
- 53:32[SPEAKER_01]: And last year in a rubber solow, we started seeing the four three under over, which means you're in your basic four three four down line, and three backers.
- 53:41[SPEAKER_01]: And then the third backer, the same guy was Luke Gifford most of the time, would rotate onto the line of scrimmage.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_01]: They did this to stop the run.
- 53:49[SPEAKER_01]: That was the emphasis last year.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_01]: The three four hybrid that, you know, this five down linemen that Rahim Morris does, they do a five linemen approach where you have four D linemen and, you know, one of your back or walks up.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_01]: it's to rush the passer.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_01]: So it looks similar, but it's a completely different understanding and kind of, you know, philosophy on why we're doing this.
- 54:15[SPEAKER_01]: You would rotate Luke Gifford up just for the extra run gap force on the outside against those tied in at 13 personnel, get packages, now you're doing it to rush the passer.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_01]: And so
- 54:26[SPEAKER_01]: I am curious because yeah, it's that same Sam Bakker that's going to be on the line of scrimmage, but it's a completely different skill set.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_01]: It is a dugger.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_01]: It is a Nick Martin, Tatum Bethune, I don't know.
- 54:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's where my biggest hiccup, because he's so small, like he's small compared to those other guys, arm length, whatever else.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like he's that kind of William Floyd compact, you know, you know, K-lon black guy.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_01]: Does that give you hesitation for your Florida state dude if for he morse is going to use that.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_01]: That almost says like dude, where it's it's not going to be as much you might just put Tane on bathroom is the backup Mike and just leave them there and let them do some special teams.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think so.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think I think Nick Martin is actually perfect for the position this season of the explosiveness the GTF.
- 55:13[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I mean, this guy gets off the ball and he comes with reckless abandon that might actually help him a little bit, where you know, I saw and chat people talking about a missing tackles because he was too eager and too aggressive.
- 55:23[SPEAKER_00]: Well, guess what, when you're coming off the edge and it's a past rest situation, that's what you can do a lot of times and he's got elite athleticism.
- 55:30[SPEAKER_00]: If you're talking, you know, a Jalen Walker type player.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_00]: Nick Morris got that ability.
- 55:35[SPEAKER_00]: He's just never been asked to do it.
- 55:36[SPEAKER_00]: So I think he would be unique to fit into that role And I think there's a role for him and we're he Morris his defense.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that's what they originally envisioned him with Robert solid drafted him last year But this is when a defensive coordinator comes in looks his skill set and said hey, this guy would benefit us a lot Now that we got very green law.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_00]: We had we can do that with this player.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think that'd make a lot of sense And I think Tate and Matthew and just being the Mike linebacker backup Sam linebacker backup I think that's very solid for the 49ers anyways
- 56:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I like this question for Bartola, you know, Jalen Graham has been on the roster for three years.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_01]: Any chance he gets play at linebacker.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_01]: If he could crack it last year, it's just the consistency's not there.
- 56:14[SPEAKER_01]: He's that hybrid coverage linebacker type role out of Purdue, played the star role.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_01]: But I think practice squad, special teamer, backup guy,
- 56:27[SPEAKER_01]: his past kind of carved out forum and that's kind of all it's going to be I'd like to be wrong but I don't see that there's any really way that he makes the 53 man roster but maybe bring him back on the practice about because he knows the whole he knows all three linebacker spots he knows special teams and he could contribute there but only in dire straits multiple injuries at that position what what's your outtake on Jalen Graham?
- 56:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't think he's going to make the 53 men roster and the question is, is you're going to be able to make the practice squad if they want to keep, you know, some of these other young guys potentially that they have, you know, they might not be able to keep a Garrett Wallow, they would they want to have him on the practice squad potentially or Larry worthy, who they want to continue to develop because let's not forget they had guys who were undrafted that they put on the practice squad that they developed that lineback are who eventually became starter.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that this is a long-term play.
- 57:16[SPEAKER_00]: Jalen Graham is that type of player in the same build these others guys got a little bit more juice than him So I think that they're kind of the way that they're going so I think there's going to be some guys who have been on the practice Quad for a few years that we might not see any more after this because the forums have built so much depth on their roster and Prepare for it now 49ers are losing players at cuts
- 57:35[SPEAKER_01]: like we are back to last year.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_01]: What there, but you're going to be back to the five to seven players being claimed after the 49ers wave players.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_01]: That's just what it's going to be.
- 57:45[SPEAKER_01]: Now, Jalen Graham, we're starting our 91 man roster countdown series, which we've been working on all week to whatever.
- 57:52[SPEAKER_01]: Jalen Graham 76, right?
- 57:54[SPEAKER_01]: You only keep 53.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_01]: He's 76.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_01]: So he's back in.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_01]: That's, that's kind of what his career is and that's okay because he'll be able to contribute somewhere in the NFL might not be here.
- 58:09[SPEAKER_01]: He'll be on a practice squad somewhere because of his versatility and keep collected paychecks and that's a positive thing and I hope he keeps getting paid.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_01]: So a linebacker room, it kind of walked away from this episode.
- 58:20[SPEAKER_01]: Linebackers, wide receiver
- 58:30[SPEAKER_01]: I know Christian McAfrey's Christian McAfrey, but like, those are the question marks that we didn't even talk about tied in.
- 58:36[SPEAKER_01]: That's one of my concerns as well as lawns, kittles out.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_01]: haven't added anybody to that room.
- 58:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but every single team has issues at certain positions safety tight end running back.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's three of the least premium positions in the NFL.
- 58:53[SPEAKER_01]: So it's almost like the 49ers are picking certain spots to stack up on.
- 58:58[SPEAKER_01]: And certain spots to be like, hey, we're going to be short anywhere.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_01]: Might as well be short here.
- 59:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I think you look at tight end and the 49ers once again, we talked about the roster gymnastics.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_00]: If George kiddo's going to be out, they might elect to only keep two on the 53-man roster and then just elevate somebody.
- 59:13[SPEAKER_00]: You know, elevate, you know, denkins or, you know, if they get braided well as again, just have them come up and be the third tight end.
- 59:18[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they'll find somebody else, but I think that that's one of the things they're looking at.
- 59:22[SPEAKER_00]: And who knows, and maybe they're going to look at running more 11-person LR running some full receiver sets, but I think that they could fully expect to go in a game kind of that way, as they're looking to make roster spots for some of these players they don't want to lose.
- 59:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I like it.
- 59:37[SPEAKER_01]: So that's going to do it for our show today, but I will be live later on with the schedule.
- 59:41[SPEAKER_01]: So when the schedule comes out, here's what everybody's got to go do go to 49ers rush for a trip.com.
- 59:47[SPEAKER_01]: Figure out what trips you can go to book your tickets with us.
- 59:50[SPEAKER_01]: And so with the schedules out, here's what I do.
- 59:52[SPEAKER_01]: I call the boss, Miss Chapman, executive producer of the show.
- 59:56[SPEAKER_01]: And I say, what trips am I allowed to do in which ones am I not?
- 59:59[SPEAKER_01]: And then I'll go on the site.
- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'll update those.
- 1:00:02[SPEAKER_01]: then I'm going to go live and we'll break down the schedule.
- 1:00:05[SPEAKER_01]: What games parties will be at so join us later tonight Yeah, you're doing a schedule break episode tomorrow or tonight.
- 1:00:13[SPEAKER_01]: Wait, what's your plan yet?
- 1:00:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm going to be doing it tonight.
- 1:00:16[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if I'm going to go live or if I'm going to record something.
- 1:00:19[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see how my schedule plays out, but yeah, I'll be putting something out, talking about the schedule and everything that's going on with it.
- 1:00:25[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, we got ants, origin, story.
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_01]: We got excitement.
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_01]: We got concerns.
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_01]: We got schedules.
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's been fun, man.
- 1:00:33[SPEAKER_01]: This has been an absolute blast.
- 1:00:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I want to say thank you so much.
- 1:00:36[SPEAKER_01]: Can't wait till next Thursday.
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_01]: We're back together.
- 1:00:39[SPEAKER_01]: And for everybody else, you are the best of the best.
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much.

- 1:00:44[SPEAKER_01]: Peace.
