- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey everybody, welcome to We'll call it season or we'll call it episode nine It's Chris Miles, host of new i'm music row here on the rise network, but Annavar was not gonna be joining us today So we'll take what we were gonna talk about which was mystery movies.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_01]: We'll take that.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'll move that to next week He wasn't able to be here because of scheduling situations, but
- 0:24[SPEAKER_01]: uh... we will still be talking about new releases will still talk about that nabby because we saw that as well and i have a very special guest with me today i would even call her a doubt and abby expert so uh... why don't you introduce yourself there down nabby expert and uh... let everybody know who i'm fortunate enough to have as my co-host for today well if i'm so special why don't i have the theme song to introduce me
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: well we'll put it in the background.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_02]: I kind of like the way the movie works.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_02]: Grand entrance is any doubt and show has.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_02]: How do you not start with the theme?
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: We'll make sure that we ended it in, although we can't play a lot of it for copywriting reasons, but you know,
- 1:13[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, just enough.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_02]: Anyone who knows will know we will play it through their head for the rest of the podcast I promise.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: There we go.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_02]: I'm Don.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, Don.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_01]: Don, Abby, Superfan, of course, and when I first saw the preview for the new movie, what did I come to you and say that we should do?
- 1:37[SPEAKER_02]: You said, I would like to see this with you.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_02]: And I said, you are six seasons and two movies behind.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_02]: And it's about a month away.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_02]: And then you said, but I really will watch it with you.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_02]: And I got to start it from the beginning all over again with you.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_02]: I love that.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, so I tried to step up to the challenge.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: watch all of the episodes.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: But unfortunately, another TV show took over as sometimes happened.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: So we didn't get all the way through them.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_01]: I got up to, I think it was episode seven of season two before the movie came out.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_01]: So I didn't complete the task so to speak.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: But I feel like I got enough of a back story.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: to kind of appreciate things.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: And then we cheated a little bit and had a little conversation about some of the things that I thought happened.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I will be totally honest with you guys.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: I took what I saw from the previews from the new movie, by the way, which isn't theaters now.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: Doubt and Abby, the final curtain, is that what it's called?
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: Or, what is it called?
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: The curtain call, something like that?
- 2:51[SPEAKER_02]: I don't, I think it was just, isn't it the finale?
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but it's like the final curtain or something like that.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_02]: But I thought it said the finale.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'll look at it.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_02]: It was too hard to take.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't pay attention to the end.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: well see now there you go fans i guess i should say if you don't think that she's really a doubt in fan then you just know because of the way she just described how she had to take things and doesn't really know the ending of the title of the movie um but uh
- 3:22[SPEAKER_01]: Regardless, the movie is in theaters now.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk a little bit about our reviews of the movie like I usually do with Annavar.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: But we've got some of the things to cover as well because there are some new movies coming out this week.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: Surprise, surprise, every Friday.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: There's always stuff that comes out.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: An interesting selection of films.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what we're going to review next week.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: Probably a big, bold, beautiful journey.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: because that's one of the movies this week that a lot of people are talking about.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe we'll do that.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not exactly sure.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: The strangers chapter two comes out, which... Okay, do we need another strangers?
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: We need another stranger things.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: That's for sure.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, I digress.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_01]: And then a movie called The Him.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: There's some other stuff coming out as well, but those are the three main movies coming out this week.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's some things for you to watch, of course, you can watch some starting tomorrow in movie theaters.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: But the main bulk of this episode, we're going to really kind of get into Dought Navi, or if you're anovar.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: it's called Downtown Abbey, which I had to sit here and explain to him it's not downtown because Downtown is spelled D-O-W-N-T-O-W-N, and this is D-O-W-N-T-O-N.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, give you a little insight to Annabart that he likes to pull strings, that's really what it pulls down to, and I think that's what it was all about.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: He was trying to pull my string or whatever, but
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: Um, don't have me nonetheless, uh, not pulling strings, um, except for maybe, um, it is, it's, don't have me the grand finale, that's what it's called.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but no, no, it's not over.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_02]: It can't be over.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_02]: Don't say those words.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, okay, we may have some other information for people later on in the show as well, but so Give us a little background Well, one of the things we like to do with this podcast is we like to talk about some of our favorites and obviously we know you don't have me as your favorite There's some more personal stuff behind it by personal.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_01]: I mean You actually were involved with PBS at some point
- 5:30[SPEAKER_01]: And so this show is kind of really near and dear to your heart, because you probably fans probably donated to PBS because they wanted to keep seeing Dalton Abbey.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_01]: So give us a little backstory about your fandom, if you will, about Dalton Abbey.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_01]: Why are you the Dalton Abbey expert?
- 5:51[SPEAKER_01]: I guess, is the way superfan.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: That's what we were saying.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: Superfan.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_02]: Well, PBS wasn't boring when Downton Abbey was on.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's what got everybody all excited and the phones are, and I know that you think that.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_02]: So in that time, I was in a count manager for the PBS stations, and we were responsible for.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_02]: helping them with their pledge drive.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_02]: So obviously, you know, you're excited when the phones ring and it make a lot of money, and that's, you know, that's the whole goal.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, when the computers aren't working, and the pledge forms aren't working, and the more the phones ring, the more technical difficulties we had in Doubt and Abby was the reason I lost a few years of a lot of sleep, because we went from one coast to the other, and my co-workers, you couldn't say Doubt and Abby where they weren't.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I don't want to hear that word, but I would finish a 14-hour day and I had it recorded and I would not miss an episode and I would watch it the night it came out and it just, it was a fabulous story, it was, um,
- 7:04[SPEAKER_02]: It brought back when I used to watch upstairs downstairs with my grandma that used to be a few years.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_02]: Um, upstairs downstairs same concept but not nearly as exciting.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and you know by what episode three when they're pulling a dead man out of somebody's bedroom who shouldn't have been there in the first place.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_02]: Little more of a scape than the other one was, and it did.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_02]: It walked a line for PBS, but it was a good line.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_02]: And people loved it.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_02]: And you fell in love with the characters.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_02]: That was the draw.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't just the story.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_02]: You were family with them.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_02]: And they pulled you in, and they kept you there.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_02]: Week after week, season after season.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: So having come into this where I can literally binge watch, if I wanted to, I can't imagine what it would have been like to have to sit there and wait for the next episode.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I can relate to that from my love for Dexter, which you have also now become a fan of Dexter as well.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: All my fault, but in folks, if you haven't seen Dexter,
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: And you're worried about blood and guts and all that kind of stuff.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_01]: There's blood spatter, but it's not too bad, and even for you, someone who really can't stand any, that grotesque horror stuff, which is why we'll never see a horror movie together.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: You actually can excuse the pun here, stomach, dexter as well too, but I can't, I can't
- 8:53[SPEAKER_01]: People who are super fans of the show survived having to wait a week after week after week after week To be able to watch new episodes and then they were only available on PBS so they weren't even like on mainstream TV And this dare I say show is like a cult has a cult following so to speak And I can say this from watching the first two seasons.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_01]: We'll call it two and a half seasons I
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: The show is great.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's fantastic.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: It reminds me a lot of the British TV that I used to watch as a kid.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: I also watched the other show that you were talking about upstairs, downstairs, faulty towers as another show that I used to watch.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: My dad got me in a
- 9:40[SPEAKER_01]: the Paris sketch is by far the best sketch of all time.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: But, and then I got into Doctor Who, like, a lot.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: There were some doctors that I just couldn't stand, and there were some that I thought were really great.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: I forget the gentleman's last name, but the doctor that I got into was, I think he's Doctor Number 4.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: His first name is Tom.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: I can't remember his last name.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: I know take away my Doctor Who fan card.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's fine, but this is what happens when you get to be 50.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: You start to forget people's names.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, that's where I started with the whole thing.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_01]: And I fell in love with British TV.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: Red Dawn is another sci-fi show that I used to watch.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_01]: That was only on PBS.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: And I hung around with some kids that were fans of that kind of stuff.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: But there's a thing about British humor.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's so dry.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's one of the reasons why a lot of people don't watch some of this British television is because they don't get some of the humor because it just kind of flies over you one of the things that you were mentioning and we'll get to the review and of the new movie and just a second here, but in the movie.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: We were watching it in a local theater here in the area that we live in.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: I call it the Tavoli, but that's not what it's called.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's actually the Tavoli.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: But I like to call it the Tavoli, just like my co-host likes to call it downtown Abbey.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: Great theater to see it.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, if you can see this movie in an old school classic movie theater, like the ones where there's like 80 rows of seats, I think it's just gonna bring back
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: Because that's what it did for me when I was a kid I saw Star Wars the original Star Wars in the movie theater and I saw it in a movie theater That's no longer around.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: It was in Chicago I think it was called North Town or it was called Nortown and it was right on Devon and I think Western and When we sat down to go watch this movie I literally was like brought back to that experience and was like how cool is this to be in this wide open theater?
- 11:38[SPEAKER_01]: The acoustics it echoed
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: So it's not digital state of the art like everybody's used to and the surround sound and all that kind of stuff that everybody loves, but it just brought me back to like my kid years when I used to go see movies in these theaters that were absolutely humongous.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what the typically in Downers Grove is as well.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_01]: So there's a couple of the movie theaters that you can see it like that still around.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: If you can see the movie in that vein or in that venue, I should say I would I would definitely recommend it.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_01]: I can see why people are fans of this movie.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: You wanted two things we mentioned and about first of all about the British humor thing.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: There's a line in this movie that a lot of people in the movie theater missed and you mentioned this to me last night when we were talking about it.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: I missed it too, and I'm so upset that I missed it because when you told me about it, I was like, oh my god, that's hilarious.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: So there's an exchange, and this is, by the way, a spoiler, not really, but it is kind of an exchange between the two eldest daughters of the Abbey, we'll call it, and one has admitted that she,
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: had relations with somebody that they shouldn't have and the younger daughter immediately comes back and goes, oh my god, is he like Western Indian or whatever, what was the line again?
- 12:58[SPEAKER_02]: Is he Turkish?
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: Is he Turkish?
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: And nobody in the movie theater except for you laughed at it.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_02]: That's the only one who laughed.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I missed it, and had I heard it, I would have been laughing my butt off.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_01]: Now, here's the thing that you said to me, and I thought this was really cool about it.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: You might have missed that line, too.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_01]: Had you not gone back and watched some of the first, the first couple of seasons with me as well.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_01]: So, um,
- 13:24[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, great to see it in like an old school movie theater.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think it gave you, it made me kind of time catapult back.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_01]: I guess you wanted to say time travel back to the era where this movie came from.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_01]: And it doesn't open like a lot of, and I haven't seen the other two movies either.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm like way behind the eight ball on this.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but as you were saying, the movie doesn't open.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_01]: the way most out-nabby fans would expect.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_01]: So why don't you elaborate on that?
- 13:54[SPEAKER_01]: Because I think that's a really cool moment that a lot of out-nab fans will probably get into and whatnot.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_02]: So the other two movies have started just like the series started, where you see the Abby and you hear the song and it's that moment and you see the excitement of every time and how many episodes did we watch together.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_02]: Well 14 right there are a couple yeah we did a couple of seasons and every time that song played There was a smile in my face you just it's how it's What makes that show that show you just know That's something good's coming and the movie starts
- 14:44[SPEAKER_02]: and it starts on a streets and it takes you into a theater and you walk through doors just like you would the Abby, but it's not the Abby, and there's no song, and it's very understated, and it starts, and it keeps going, and you sit there and you go, but you forgot the song, you forgot the song,
- 15:14[SPEAKER_02]: and they return to the Abby.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_02]: And there it is.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_02]: The Abby and the song, and then the chill start, just like the chills always started.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_02]: But it was bigger and it was better because you weren't expecting it.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_02]: And it was just like the first time you watched it when you didn't know what was coming and you fell in love with them.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_02]: It was, it seemed so awkward when it started.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_02]: It was a let down until it wasn't.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's a great segue to you giving us your feedback about the book.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_01]: What did you think?
- 15:54[SPEAKER_02]: As a superfan, what did I think?
- 15:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, as a superfan, what did you think?
- 15:59[SPEAKER_01]: I guess it was that close enough to the group.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_01]: As a superfan, superfan, it's close enough to the crawlies.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_02]: Say it like it's a bad thing.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm not saying it like it's a bad thing at all.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_02]: I have made a very conscious decision to not break into my British accent, but it's so difficult.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_02]: But I've got this.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_02]: I won't.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_02]: I promise I won't.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_02]: I know.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_02]: I was almost afraid to go see it.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't want it to be a two hour goodbye.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_02]: I wanted it to still have a plot and a storyline and some meaning.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't want it.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_02]: Everything has been so good about the series and the movies were unexpected bonuses that as a fan you didn't have.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_02]: But you can only do it so long and it was afraid that maybe this one was the one too many, but it wasn't it wasn't I was afraid, but I was brave and I set through it and I loved it.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_02]: I loved it.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_02]: I loved it.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_02]: I loved it.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_02]: It was exactly what it was supposed to be.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_02]: It will not be an Oscar nominee.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody's winning best anything from this.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_02]: It was a level out of the fans.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_02]: And that's all it needed to be.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_02]: It served its purpose.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_02]: It did what it was supposed to do.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_02]: It still said goodbye, but not for the entire.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_02]: There was, I hope you'll agree that there was some plot there.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_01]: And I think in some ways, they've left it open and did.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_01]: As well, where they could do something else, if the fans must, they must.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_01]: Well, and fans, that's going to rely on you.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_01]: Being a fan of Firefly, I can tell you that I'm still waiting for more stuff to come out for Firefly, and it hasn't happened.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_01]: So, but it seems that Dalton,
- 18:17[SPEAKER_01]: and their fans get what they want.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, Josh, get on the corn and let's go.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, no, I'm dear Julian Fellows.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_02]: Well, Jim, if you need to know how this spin-off goes, give me a call.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_02]: I've got it written.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_02]: I know how this goes.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_02]: I even have the segue into the character build because most of the characters
- 18:41[SPEAKER_02]: We know the other stories end, and just like you said when we were leaving, there's not a whole lot, like you've heard the rumors that there's new contracts and people, but there's not a whole lot to build on because we truly have said goodbye.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_02]: But I don't know, I feel like there's a whole lot of potential for the next generation of who runs the Abbey.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_02]: We met the girls when they were young women.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_02]: We didn't see how they were raised.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_02]: And I think this is an opportunity to see how they're raised.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe make it more of an upstairs downstairs type of thing.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think it could be.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_02]: I think you would have an entire, I mean, you're going to have an entirely new staff.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_02]: But you still have
- 19:42[SPEAKER_02]: You still have your anchors.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_02]: You still have Lady Mary.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_02]: You still have Daisy.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_02]: Who can be your anchor downstairs?
- 19:52[SPEAKER_02]: And now the staff builds, you know, now Daisy, who was, you know, the skittish, yeah, skittish at best has really stepped into her own.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she blossomed and bloomed in this movie, for sure.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_02]: and not just in the kitchen.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, she has a voice and she's not afraid to use it.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that that was really, I didn't say what she said with it.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_01]: No, but if you haven't seen the movie yet, there's some things you don't know about it and we've given them a little bit of ways.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's just so that we, you know, appease our fans, spoiler alert, minimal, but it's still a spoiler alert.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, yes.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_02]: It is, but that's the theme.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_02]: of that's the theme of the movie.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_02]: It's strength and it's coming into your position, whatever that is.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_02]: And you're right, because you and I started watching it again from the beginning, I'd forgotten how timid Edith was.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_02]: I'd forgotten, even though Mary has been loud
- 21:06[SPEAKER_02]: She started out as loud for the sake of being loud, but she harnessed her strength in the end.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_02]: As the seasons went, she got stronger, but she knew what to do with it.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_02]: And there was a purpose behind all of her anger and her bullheadedness and she's refined it.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_02]: And it obviously has served her.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_02]: full circle moments in it that yes go and see it but rewatch season one and two before you do because there are things you will miss that you don't want to miss that were just little gifts that they gave you the whole way including the comments.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_00]: The Turkish comment.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_02]: The Turkish comment but the Turkish comment came from Eda who have never said a word about
- 22:07[SPEAKER_02]: And I get with a tried to do.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_02]: Um, but I missed Maggie Smith, I missed her.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_02]: I, she was, she was in every moment of that movie.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_02]: Um, she was honored.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_02]: She was remembered.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_02]: She was still at the center of that family.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_01]: Perfectly placed right in the center of the entrance hall in a portrait, which I thought, cinematicly was absolutely superb.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, that's awesome.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_01]: For sure.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_02]: But you miss, there were the writers.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_02]: Newbies, Narky, Cypher.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_02]: That's just it.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_02]: There was Snarky, Newbies, Side Comments, the whole way.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_02]: But they came from other people.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_01]: Which was cool.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: It was a nice way to layer in.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_01]: This is how much, and I'm going to use the tomb, Lersey, here.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_01]: Grandma has affected everyone else.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: So, and I thought that was awesome.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: And that was something that I was going to talk about.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_01]: And in my review of the thing is that it was great to see how they gave a tribute to her.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_01]: through what they did with developing characteristics in some of the other characters that you hadn't seen before.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: It was almost like a, this is how Granny has influenced everyone, and this is how she has given us all the wings that we needed, which I thought was really cool.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_02]: I still missed her.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, for sure.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_02]: I need to.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's the one hole in my heart with this.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_02]: So there's no, there's no going back to that.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_02]: I get it in a hundred different ways.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_02]: But nobody else could have ever filled those shoes.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_00]: For sure.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_02]: And they handled it perfectly because she was there.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_02]: and but and I loved that okay so spoiler alert but really if you didn't see this coming I got nothing for you there's the montage you there's always got to be a montage they're saying goodbye of course they're gonna show clips they were just pictures I wanted to hear her again
- 24:19[SPEAKER_02]: I just, I wanted to hear anything, something come out of her mouth again, and it was just images.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_01]: But to be fair, if I remember those montages seen or the clip of all those scenes, nobody said anything.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody, nobody, nobody said anything.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_01]: It was rightfully so.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that was to kind of push forward the what could happen.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_01]: like the way to transition from what was to what could happen, because it was a flashback moment at the end of the movie, spoiler alert, and I think that set everything up beautifully, which is why when we were talking about it, I said, there's, and you said this as well too, there's some ways that this could go, or this could be the end, and the rumors are just that, their rumors, there's nothing confirmed, as far as additional seasons is concerned, the only thing that I've seen and this is gonna be a little heart-wrenching for some of you is that,
- 25:13[SPEAKER_01]: the creator, Julian Fellows, has stated that he has said goodbye to Doubt and Appie many times and that it's time to bring this to an end and I'm quoting him spitt directly.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_01]: So, referring to the story and the characters, this could be the end, this could literally be as the film is titled The Grand Finale.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: Of Doubt and Appie, but there could be spin-off.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, what was so clever about this was it literally spend 18 years in time from when the Titanic went down to 1930.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_02]: And it was that long and real time is how all of this went.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_02]: So everybody aged appropriately, everybody
- 26:11[SPEAKER_02]: This is the doubt and we know, and yes, this, this doubt is over.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_02]: However, is there a whole new, you can't, the storylines are got you, you can't resurrect the storylines, you can't, there's no, there's nothing to be continued, but there's a whole new generation in what happens.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_02]: an eras, a single mom, eras, who's raising an air, and they're of that age that we didn't see the first time.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_02]: So what happens?
- 26:52[SPEAKER_02]: It could be the same Abby, but a whole new story that they tell.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_02]: I believe he's listening and he's going to hear me, he's going to say, you're absolutely correct.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_02]: And the phone's going to ring and he's going to look to me to help him guy, I am willing to do it.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_01]: We'll put the hashtags in for you at the show of things so that he will see it maybe sort of somehow some way.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_01]: So one of the things that we do here on cheesy popcorn is we actually give our ratings for the movies.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to start with you and then I'll talk briefly about some of the things that I would say about the movie, but I just scale up one to ten is what we do.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: time being the best one being the worst, what do you give it?
- 27:34[SPEAKER_02]: I give it a nine.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_01]: A nine.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, from the super fan.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_02]: From the super fan, because again, it's not down without me, I use Smith.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_02]: And I get it in a hundred different ways, but it was, but it was absolutely everything any fan what, it's, it was absolutely the, the love letter to the fans.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_02]: just just a gift and it was what it was supposed to be for the fans.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_02]: You're never going to see any awards come out of this from a movie critic.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure there were a million different things that could have been done different from a fan side.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_02]: It
- 28:19[SPEAKER_02]: It checked everybody.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, we're not movie critics here.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_01]: We're just fans, just kind of sharing our opinions of things and stuff like that.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_01]: So, and there are some people that don't agree there or some people that do agree with what I say when a man of ours said, this is some people that agree and disagree with you.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: But that's why I wanted to have you on the show because you are a doubt and have you super fan.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_01]: The one, the ones that I know for sure.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I felt like you could do it better just as because I'm not going to do it just as at all because I've only seen two and a half seasons.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_01]: So for me, I'm going to say this.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_01]: If you have not watched at least the first week, we agreed on this.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_01]: The first three seasons of Don't Nabi, don't go see this movie.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the only reason why I'm saying don't go see this movie is because you will miss so much that you will be lost.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: Unless.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_01]: you're a fan of Quentin Tarantino movies, and you like to start from the end and work your way back.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_01]: And what I mean by that is, if you're a Quentin Tarantino fan, Quentin Tarantino likes to start his movies off by showing you what the ending of the movie is.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_01]: So in that sense, what you could do is you could pull a Quentin Tarantino in here, see this movie and then go back and watch what is it, six seasons of Doubt Navey?
- 29:24[SPEAKER_02]: Six.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_01]: and then finish the story from there and to movies, which according to what you have said, they don't really, they add to the storyline, but you don't need to see the episodes to watch those two movies, because there's nothing that ties back into the other things.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_01]: So to me, that made me go, oh, I wish I would have saw the other two movies first before we saw this, but whatever it no big deal.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: But being a fan of British TV,
- 29:50[SPEAKER_01]: If you haven't watched this I think you should now if you decided to go different around and you watch Bridgeton on Netflix and you haven't watched.nabby I'm going to say this and I will break the barrier shame on you
- 30:02[SPEAKER_01]: You need to watch Dalton go back and watch it British TV one of the reasons the accents and other reasons The humor that's in it that you can only get if you're a fan of British TV if you don't like British TV You're not gonna like this because it's too much about the hierarchy It's too much about you know Pishposh and things of that nature
- 30:24[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think you're going to get some of the humor in it.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: But I think what Dalnebby does as a whole is it makes a great balance between the hierarchy, and then the other people that live in the house that actually do the day-to-day functions of the house.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_01]: And I, to me, that's the charm in Dalnebby.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to sit here and watch how people are having all these great parties.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_01]: I like to see how the house is being run.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: And the drama that's behind there, one of my favorite characters, and I'm not gonna remember his name, is the guy that always gets himself in trouble, and he seems to have a different and it excurses the pun here, bent.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_01]: towards another way, sexually, the moment I saw him, I was like, oh, he's the token gay guy.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_01]: So, but anyway, I love him, because he just stirs the pot.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_01]: And that to me is absolutely amazing at hilarious.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_01]: And he gets a different...
- 31:19[SPEAKER_01]: view in this movie, which I kind of enjoyed actually, I was kind of like wow it's good to see him like on the other side so to speak a little stereotyping in the fact that he gets into theater and stuff like that, you know, but it is what it is But as far as the movie is concerned it is enjoyable to watch it is a I think
- 31:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like I said, not having seen all the seasons.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was a fantastic way to say goodbye.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: And like you said, the movie has a plot.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's not just all about saying goodbye.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_01]: So there isn't other story inside the movie, which we're not going to give away.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_01]: But it's another reason to go see the movie, because there's a whole another angle in there.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_01]: And Annavar and I talked about worst castings that we're going to do that on a different episode.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_01]: why is Paul Giamani in this movie?
- 32:10[SPEAKER_02]: I knew he served no one there.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_01]: He serves no purpose whatsoever except for it to be a named actor that plays a bit part and he's not even in any of the TV series.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: So his character was a little bit, I want to say this.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder if he's a fan of the show.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_01]: And he went to the creators and said, hey, I want to be in the show.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_01]: And let's give me the New York angle.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_01]: Because here's the thing.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_01]: Every movie Paul Giamani is, he plays that squirrely rat-like twisted character.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_01]: He's always that kind of guy.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_01]: Even in billions, he's that rat-fink, no good guy.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_01]: And although he starts off that way, later on, he doesn't end that way.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, ugh.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_01]: and I don't know.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: I'm maybe I'm just being too critical because it's Paul Giamani.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_01]: I have nothing against him.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, he makes the worst rhino ever, but that's beside the point that's him in Spider-Man, but totally different genre thing here, but anyway, whatever.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_01]: But I do like him in billions.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_01]: So he serves a purpose there.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't see his purpose in this movie.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_01]: But bottom line, it was entertaining.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_01]: It was great to see it in a classic old movie theater where there's like 80 aisles of seats.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, and it wasn't full, but I mean,
- 33:27[SPEAKER_01]: the popcorn was good.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, there's that as well.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_02]: I love their popcorn.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_02]: Always fresh pop.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: And it's free refill.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_01]: So classic cinemas is the chain we're talking about.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_01]: Free point for you guys, by the way, you're welcome.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to send me advertising dollars, that's awesome.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_01]: But beside that point, classic cinemas is a good place to see movies.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_01]: So I may have to talk to Annabar about it, but we'll see.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_01]: As far as ratings would be concerned, I'm going to give it a seven and a half only because I'm not a super fan of the show.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's entertaining.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a great way to end the show.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_01]: I agree with you.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_01]: I missed Maggie.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_01]: And as you were saying it, I was kind of thinking about things and I'm like, you know what?
- 34:08[SPEAKER_01]: That's, I was trying to think of what I was missing from this movie.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe it's because I haven't gotten through all of the other stuff yet.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, I don't see how they handle that whole scenario.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_01]: But having only seen the first couple of seasons, every time Maggie is on screen, I'm waiting for some sort of snarky ass comment.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_01]: And
- 34:29[SPEAKER_01]: She was on screen a couple of times.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_01]: She did not say anything, which was on screen, which I understand why for symbolism purposes and things of that nature as well.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_01]: But I was like, there's no Starkey comments.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_01]: But like I we were saying earlier in the episode, all the other actors, now start to have Snarky comments, which I thought was great.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_01]: It was an awesome nod to say, hey, this is how much grandma has influenced us.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's really awesome.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_01]: So, like I said, 7.5 out of 10, I will see it again once I get through all of the other episodes, although I would like to find a way to not have to watch it on peacock because I hate sitting through ads, but that's just me.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I realize I'm a snob when it comes to streaming, but all in all.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_02]: We can get Britbox.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_02]: I've been trying to make the case for getting Britbox,
- 35:14[SPEAKER_01]: we can okay.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'll have to look into it because if there's a couple other things on breadbox, then I'm sold and we're going to go.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_02]: There are many other things.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_02]: Now, I would never, ever, ever, ever again, leave the house.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_02]: But it's a small price to pay to not have to watch ads.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_01]: Well, right now, it's only, well, the series.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_01]: is only available through peacock and with all of the streaming platforms that are out there and you know, trying to be economically sound, we can't have every single streaming service.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_01]: So if any of the fans out there would like to give me your password that I could be able to watch it with, that would be awesome.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_01]: Now I'm kidding, don't do that because you know,
- 35:56[SPEAKER_01]: I don't I don't need that kind of drama any other do you but anyway, so I'm looking forward to finishing it off I'm looking forward to see everything else and then going back to the movie again We'll probably run different the library or maybe it'll be available streaming somewhere where there would be no commercials that would be totally awesome But go see it as if you're a super fan Don you've already said it you're gonna love it, right?
- 36:19[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't even think about the library.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_02]: I bet they have the same.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_02]: It's on DVD.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_02]: There might be a doubt in box at.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I just got a Christmas gift idea.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just going to say, and then, dear Santa, if you're listening along with Julian Fellows, who I still know is listening, Santa, you could bring me every town episode, and then Chris wouldn't have to watch the commercials.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_01]: there we go.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_02]: It's not that we don't have every streaming platform.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_02]: We just don't have every streaming platform premium.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm sorry you have to sit through the ads.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_02]: It's a small price to pay to be able to watch anything.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_02]: You just need a little patience.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_02]: We've discussed this.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I have no patience when it comes to ads.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_01]: Especially when it's the same damn ad six times in a row while you're watching the show.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, I digress.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to get off my soapbox.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_01]: Go see down at me, the Grand Finale.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_01]: It is a wonderful film.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_01]: If you haven't watched at least the first these three seasons, do yourself a favor, watch the first three seasons, because there's a lot of nods that you'll miss.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that'll take away a little bit from your viewing pleasure.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_01]: But all in all, great flick, go see it.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_01]: If you haven't already, don't wait till it comes to video, go see it in the movies.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_01]: You want to see it on the big screen.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_01]: Unless you have like that huge screen at home, which then you're bougie and that's the way that it works.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, that's going to end the episode.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you again, Don so much for joining us.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_01]: I totally appreciate you commenting in their super fan way.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_01]: Also Kudos to you for not breaking into the British accent.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_01]: I thought at least at some point you would either that or the Australian one because you do both of them as well But next episode next episode rather and of our should be returning we'll review another movie We'll talk about the movies that are coming out and we'll probably also talk about our favorite mystery movies as well But that'll be the next episode.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_01]: We should only get here on the rise wet network and again.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_02]: Save us some popcorn The cheesy kind awesome.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much
