- 0:25Speaker 1: comes down.
- 0:26Speaker 2: To this for the Saints. Shuck, again on the keeper.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Did he get the push?
- 0:34Speaker 1: Touchdown!
- 0:34Speaker 2: For our team to come up here and, you know,
- 0:37Speaker 2: come away with a victory, I think credit to our
- 0:39Speaker 2: guys of just their resiliency. There's plenty of ups, there's
- 0:42Speaker 2: plenty of downs in this game. There's a lot of
- 0:43Speaker 2: stuff we've got to get better at. But our guys
- 0:45Speaker 2: stuck with it. Our guys stuck with it, and we
- 0:47Speaker 2: had an opportunity to kind of close it out, and
- 0:49Speaker 2: our guys were able to get it done.
- 0:50Speaker 1: So excited for those guys. The New Orleans Saints got
- 0:54Speaker 1: a call! What?! Praise the Christmas Jesus. The New Orleans
- 1:02Speaker 1: Saints got a call. Tyler Shuck wasn't nowhere near the
- 1:05Speaker 1: end zone, dog. I mean, Tyler Shuck wasn't nowhere near
- 1:08Speaker 1: the end zone on that one. Got a call. In
- 1:11Speaker 1: a big way, got a call. But, but. Juwan Johnson
- 1:14Speaker 1: scored on second down, number one. And number two, they
- 1:17Speaker 1: also ripped his freaking head off and you didn't throw
- 1:19Speaker 1: the flag, you chumps. I don't want to hear nothing
- 1:21Speaker 1: about it. Stupid Baltimore fans, we got screwed here, wasn't it? No,
- 1:25Speaker 1: he didn't cross the goal line, but he didn't cross
- 1:26Speaker 1: the goal line because your linebackers ripping his damn head off.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Our quarterback's heads are falling off. Let's go. I didn't
- 1:38Speaker 1: have that one, y'all. I didn't have that one. Saints
- 1:43Speaker 1: 24-17 as an 8.5 point dog go on the road
- 1:48Speaker 1: to Baltimore and get the win. I'm going to tell you,
- 1:52Speaker 1: through two weeks, I cannot sit here and tell you
- 1:55Speaker 1: that I believe the New Orleans Saints are a contender.
- 1:58Speaker 1: But what I can say definitively is that this team
- 2:01Speaker 1: has clearly separated itself from the gum on the bottom
- 2:06Speaker 1: of the shoe that is the dredges of the NFL. Now,
- 2:11Speaker 1: Two years ago, we thought the same thing. When the
- 2:14Speaker 1: Saints went and kicked the, can I steal this? Oh, no,
- 2:17Speaker 1: I was going to say piss missile because Tom Brady
- 2:18Speaker 1: said that on the air yesterday. He also said the
- 2:20Speaker 1: S word on the air when Jaden Daniels got hurt. Anyway,
- 2:24Speaker 1: the New Orleans Saints dominated Carolina and Dallas two years ago.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Remember that? When they're setting all these offensive records, dudes,
- 2:31Speaker 1: you go, oh, they're back, they're back. No, they stink
- 2:33Speaker 1: because Dennis Allen stunk. The difference is you got a
- 2:37Speaker 1: dude in Tyler Shuck. You have a dude. I don't
- 2:40Speaker 1: know if he's going to go on to be a
- 2:41Speaker 1: great starter throughout his career. I don't know if he'll
- 2:43Speaker 1: win playoff games or Super Bowls or MVPs. What I
- 2:46Speaker 1: know is you got to do. You have a true,
- 2:50Speaker 1: legit NFL starting quarterback that is unafraid of the moment,
- 2:54Speaker 1: that elevates his play, elevates the play of others. And
- 2:58Speaker 1: as long as he is there, you are separated from
- 3:00Speaker 1: the dredges of the league. The also-rans, the never-gonna-bes, which
- 3:06Speaker 1: is what the Saints have been for the last half decade.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Let's talk about this game Another slow start offensively. I
- 3:15Speaker 1: don't have the answer. I just know we talk about
- 3:18Speaker 1: it all the time. Last year, the Saints were the
- 3:22Speaker 1: worst in the NFL in first quarter points. They are,
- 3:27Speaker 1: for whatever reason, notoriously slow starting offensively. Saints got the ball,
- 3:33Speaker 1: sack on third down, punt. Second possession, false start on
- 3:38Speaker 1: Kelvin Banks. Alave has a 20-yarder, beautiful catch on the sideline,
- 3:42Speaker 1: and then he taunts. And it moves you back. You
- 3:46Speaker 1: convert a third and six with Vele, and then Travis
- 3:49Speaker 1: Aitken fumbles a pitch. You're behind the sticks, third and 15,
- 3:52Speaker 1: and you end up punting right there as well. On
- 3:54Speaker 1: the third possession, you're set back because Trey Lance was
- 3:57Speaker 1: off sides. But on third and 13, you convert with
- 4:00Speaker 1: Devon Vele. Alave did convert a third and eight on
- 4:03Speaker 1: that possession as well. And then you end up going down.
- 4:06Speaker 1: And you end up kicking a field goal to make
- 4:08Speaker 1: it 7-3 at that point. All that to say, and
- 4:12Speaker 1: I love the two-minute drive there at the end. How
- 4:15Speaker 1: about a hat tip to Barry and Brown on the
- 4:16Speaker 1: kickoff return? The 53-yarder, which put the Saints in position
- 4:19Speaker 1: to get three points before the end of the half.
- 4:21Speaker 1: And obviously that was massive for the way that the
- 4:23Speaker 1: second half all played out. I thought the slow start
- 4:26Speaker 1: offensively is something this team has got to fix. I
- 4:29Speaker 1: know Kellen Moore has asked about it all the time.
- 4:31Speaker 1: I don't know that he has the answer for it.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I don't know what the answer is for it. I
- 4:36Speaker 1: just know it's something they've got to fix to be
- 4:38Speaker 1: able to get going offensively early in the game so
- 4:41Speaker 1: you don't keep having to dig yourself out of these holes.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Maybe part of it is you played at Detroit and
- 4:46Speaker 1: at Baltimore, and those are two really good teams. Maybe
- 4:49Speaker 1: next week at home against the Raiders that changes. We'll see.
- 4:53Speaker 1: I wanted to give a hat tip to special teams.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I thought it was a huge day on special teams.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Daniel Carlson was perfect for all the talk we had
- 4:59Speaker 1: all throughout camp. Ross Jackson was here every day with
- 5:02Speaker 1: camp practices. One of the things we talked about was
- 5:04Speaker 1: the kicker competition. Well, neither of the guys that were
- 5:07Speaker 1: competing for the kicker competition are here because neither of
- 5:08Speaker 1: them emerged. You go sign Carlson, and he was great.
- 5:12Speaker 1: He was perfect on the day. And then on top
- 5:14Speaker 1: of that, like we just mentioned, at the end of
- 5:16Speaker 1: the first half, after they put together a two-minute touchdown
- 5:18Speaker 1: drive to go up 14-3, Barry and Brown, 53-yard kickoff return.
- 5:22Speaker 1: That put New Orleans in position to go get points.
- 5:25Speaker 1: How about Shuck to Vele for 13 yards? That puts
- 5:27Speaker 1: you in position. And Carlson nailed it to make it
- 5:30Speaker 1: 14-6 going into the break. And then you get the
- 5:32Speaker 1: 51-yarder at the start of the third quarter to make
- 5:35Speaker 1: it 14-9. Daniel Carlson. Hat tip, special teams all the
- 5:39Speaker 1: way around. Thought it was awesome. Even how about the
- 5:41Speaker 1: opening kickoff of the game where Danny Stutzman goes down
- 5:44Speaker 1: like a bat out of hell and just annihilates the
- 5:46Speaker 1: Ravens kick returner. Special teams were awesome on Sunday. I
- 5:49Speaker 1: love to see it. The defense shined or shown, but
- 5:54Speaker 1: they're not getting enough shine. And maybe it's because you
- 5:56Speaker 1: don't have star players on this defense. Chase Young was
- 6:00Speaker 1: the number two overall pick and I think has the
- 6:01Speaker 1: potential to be a star player. There's nobody else in
- 6:03Speaker 1: this defense right now that is a superstar, that's a
- 6:06Speaker 1: pro bowler, that's an all-pro player. But to their great credit,
- 6:11Speaker 1: what we have seen this staff do is, with Brandon Staley,
- 6:16Speaker 1: is assemble a defense with guys that know their roles
- 6:19Speaker 1: within this defense and execute them very well. New Orleans
- 6:22Speaker 1: did catch a break. I'll tell you, there are two
- 6:24Speaker 1: things Baltimore did that gave New Orleans a break. One,
- 6:28Speaker 1: is Derrick Henry only carried the ball 16 times. 16
- 6:31Speaker 1: rushes for 68 yards. On a day where they did
- 6:34Speaker 1: not have Flowers and Lane, their two top targets, I
- 6:38Speaker 1: thought this would have been like Derrick Henry at Alabama
- 6:41Speaker 1: in the playoffs in 2015, where he was going to
- 6:43Speaker 1: get 45 rushing attempts. Why Derrick Henry only had 16
- 6:48Speaker 1: carries boggles the mind. But that's a decision that Baltimore
- 6:52Speaker 1: made when they didn't have Flowers and Lane. That's the
- 6:55Speaker 1: other break that the Saints caught. We've talked about it
- 6:57Speaker 1: all offseason. The Saints defensive backs with McKinstry and Quincy
- 7:01Speaker 1: Riley are not an elite tandem. You did not have
- 7:04Speaker 1: to face their top two guys. Because you did not
- 7:07Speaker 1: have to face their top two guys, Kool-Aid and Quincy
- 7:11Speaker 1: Riley looked like really good starters because they're going up
- 7:15Speaker 1: against Bateman and Tez Walker and LeJonte Webster and Chris
- 7:20Speaker 1: Moore and a bunch of dudes who I've never even
- 7:22Speaker 1: heard of. So... Yes, the Saints caught a break. It's
- 7:26Speaker 1: the NFL. Sometimes you get lucky. You think the Dallas
- 7:28Speaker 1: Cowboys are apologizing because they got to play Marcus Mariota
- 7:31Speaker 1: in the second half? You think, you know, look at
- 7:34Speaker 1: what happened yesterday with the Bears. After scoring 59 points
- 7:38Speaker 1: in the opener, they scored three. Caleb Williams looked like
- 7:40Speaker 1: he got hit by a sniper fire. Turns out it's
- 7:41Speaker 1: a pulled hammy. Whatever. The point is, sometimes in the NFL,
- 7:44Speaker 1: you catch a break. I mean, the Saints played a
- 7:46Speaker 1: Monday night football game with Ian Book as a starting quarterback.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Think the Miami Dolphins are apologizing for that win?
- 7:51Speaker 2: Hell no.
- 7:52Speaker 1: A win is a win is a win is a
- 7:53Speaker 1: win is a win. It's professional sports. Everyone on the
- 7:56Speaker 1: other team is getting paid. But this is one where
- 7:58Speaker 1: the Saints caught a break. What did we want to
- 8:01Speaker 1: see from Tyler Shuck coming out of week one? Aside
- 8:04Speaker 1: from a fast start, what did we want to see?
- 8:06Speaker 1: You say it out loud. Eliminate the turnovers. Back-to-back-to-back possessions
- 8:10Speaker 1: with turnovers. especially in the start of the second half
- 8:13Speaker 1: last week, dug you in the big hole. How many
- 8:15Speaker 1: turnovers did Tyler Shuck have on Sunday? Goose egg. You
- 8:18Speaker 1: wanted to see him protect the football? He did. Love
- 8:20Speaker 1: to see that. One thing I did not love in
- 8:23Speaker 1: this game, and I hate to say this because I
- 8:26Speaker 1: love Alvin Kamara. There's no world in which Alvin Kamara
- 8:32Speaker 1: needs to touch the ball 14 times in a game.
- 8:35Speaker 1: I love Alvin Kamara. He's going to be in the
- 8:37Speaker 1: Saints Hall of Fame. I believe one day he should
- 8:39Speaker 1: be in the Saints Ring of Honor. He's the best
- 8:40Speaker 1: running back in the history of the franchise. He has
- 8:42Speaker 1: brought me so much joy watching him play in New Orleans.
- 8:46Speaker 1: But Alvin Kamara is cooked. His best days are behind him.
- 8:50Speaker 1: He ran nine times for 15 yards and had five
- 8:53Speaker 1: catches for seven yards. He is not productive. The Saints
- 8:58Speaker 1: were ready to move on from Alvin Kamara this offseason.
- 9:00Speaker 1: He's only here because they agreed to a rework contract.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Kendra Miller was a healthy scratch. The New Orleans Saints,
- 9:07Speaker 1: if they're serious about winning, need to look at that.
- 9:13Speaker 1: A healthy Kendra Miller, if you're going to give someone
- 9:16Speaker 1: other than the guy you paid $ 54 million to in
- 9:18Speaker 1: Travis Aitken, if you're going to give someone else those touches,
- 9:21Speaker 1: it needs to be Kendra Miller, not Alvin Kamara. You
- 9:24Speaker 1: want to give Kamara five touches in a game? Okay.
- 9:26Speaker 1: 14 touches for 22 yards? Uh-uh. He'll have moments, and
- 9:33Speaker 1: some of y'all are going to clip this when Kamara
- 9:36Speaker 1: rips off a 40-yarder or catches one and dazzles and
- 9:39Speaker 1: shows you glimpses of what he was, and that's in
- 9:42Speaker 1: there and you'll see it in glimpses, but you're not
- 9:43Speaker 1: going to see it consistently anymore that that ship has sailed.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Those touches need to go to Kendra Miller. It's hard
- 9:49Speaker 1: for me to say, but I'm being honest with you here,
- 9:50Speaker 1: and there are a few people that love Alvin Kamara
- 9:52Speaker 1: more than me, maybe his mom and the rest of
- 9:58Speaker 1: his family, but he'll need 14 touches uh saints huge
- 10:03Speaker 1: plays on third down from some of these receivers just
- 10:07Speaker 1: went through it second possession third and sixth of on
- 10:09Speaker 1: valet convert on that third possession valet for 29 yards
- 10:14Speaker 1: on third and 13 a lot they had a reception
- 10:16Speaker 1: on third and eight to convert as well there um
- 10:19Speaker 1: There was the third and where was it? It was
- 10:23Speaker 1: always the end. It was the third and eight at
- 10:24Speaker 1: the end of the ball game. Third and eight at
- 10:26Speaker 1: the end of the ball game on what ended up
- 10:28Speaker 1: being the game winning drive. Third and eight, Jawan Johnson,
- 10:30Speaker 1: 26 yards where he took it right side, breaking tackles
- 10:32Speaker 1: down the sideline.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Love to see the third down conversions. And they didn't
- 10:37Speaker 1: have to just rely on Chris Alave. Vele and Jawan
- 10:40Speaker 1: Johnson have been huge in those moments. And I love
- 10:43Speaker 1: to see other guys coming through in those moments for
- 10:46Speaker 1: the New Orleans Saints. Um, And I'll be damned, the
- 10:49Speaker 1: Saints got a call. Tyler Shuck was not in the
- 10:53Speaker 1: end zone. He was not. But they called it a
- 10:55Speaker 1: touchdown on the field. They couldn't overrule it on review.
- 10:59Speaker 1: And was it Cleet Blakeman who was the– he probably
- 11:02Speaker 1: went under the hood or looking at the thing. And
- 11:04Speaker 1: they saw the egregious face mask that they missed, and
- 11:07Speaker 1: they said, we better give them the touchdown. So they
- 11:09Speaker 1: got a touchdown. Love it. Saints go to one and one.
- 11:14Speaker 1: I had them 0-2 to start the season, but I
- 11:16Speaker 1: thought they had a great chance to win their next
- 11:17Speaker 1: three home games before they go to the Giants and
- 11:19Speaker 1: then to Paris. I was okay with an 0-2 start
- 11:22Speaker 1: because I knew what was ahead. Starting 1-1 feels like
- 11:25Speaker 1: you're playing with house money now these next three. And
- 11:27Speaker 1: it starts with a home game against the Raiders, which,
- 11:28Speaker 1: by the way, don't look now. The Las Vegas Raiders
- 11:30Speaker 1: are 2-0. Now, they beat Miami, who's awful, but going
- 11:36Speaker 1: on the road to beat the Chargers, who may be
- 11:38Speaker 1: awful too, by the way. The Chargers have now lost
- 11:41Speaker 1: as a 9.5-point favorite to Arizona, and they've lost to
- 11:43Speaker 1: the Raiders. By the way, have you looked at the
- 11:46Speaker 1: next seven games for the Chargers? This ain't a Chargers show,
- 11:49Speaker 1: but if you want to laugh, go look at the
- 11:51Speaker 1: next seven games for the Chargers. Anyway, more intrigue for
- 11:56Speaker 1: this game on Sunday with the Raiders coming in. Saints
- 11:58Speaker 1: know Kirk Cousins. They've played him plenty in Minnesota, in Atlanta. Obviously,
- 12:04Speaker 1: a huge opportunity for New Orleans to get above. 500.
- 12:08Speaker 1: To get above. 500 in Week 3 would just be like,
- 12:15Speaker 1: Heaven sent over just existing in football purgatory for the
- 12:18Speaker 1: last half decade. So here we go. Saints beat Ravens
- 12:22Speaker 1: 24-17 in Baltimore on Sunday as an 8.5-point dog. And
- 12:26Speaker 1: off they go now with three home games and a
- 12:27Speaker 1: chance to really get yourself ahead of the sticks with
- 12:30Speaker 1: that favorable schedule we talked about all offseason. What a
- 12:32Speaker 1: win for New Orleans. Go get it done on the
- 12:34Speaker 1: road in Baltimore.
