Transcript
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: And we're on.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: This is three WIPC, CFB.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Alphartyaga.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: I have my partner on three hours per carry, Simon Clancy, and the host of Lockdown Dolphins, Calcrabbs, here with me.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: It was an eventful week one, and we're gonna talk about it.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: And in the second half, I promise you, we will touch on the news of the day.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: College football is chock full of news this week, not only a game result, but a team that is evidently gonna,
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: come after Devon HN and Miles Garrett next week if they have any eligibility left.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, I believe both have one year left of eligibility.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: So don't put it past them, but I guess I'll just start right here and we'll get right into it and I'll start with you Simon.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: What were the best things you saw last week?
- 1:11[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, just call this for all being back generally.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_03]: Actually, it was just great.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I don't know if to remember one of us saying that it was a terrible slate of games.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: Wait, I don't know.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_03]: I can't remember who that was, Carl.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_03]: Can you remember who that was, Carl?
- 1:22[SPEAKER_03]: Can you remember who that was, Carl, can you remember who he was?
- 1:24[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, even I'm not sure it was me.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_03]: So,
- 1:27[SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, uh, no, I look like just there was just something, it was just some great get-a, all been bailing the last day of the game, the fail Mary and Ann Arbor that we're going to touch upon a lot.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_03]: The number two team in the country don't even just beat in a group of 16 in the final two minutes.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_03]: It's a absolutely barn burner in Nashville that came down to, you know, the last second field goal, Tulsa.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_03]: four straight losing seasons, humbling Oklahoma State and Drew Mr. Maker and like how does a Big 10 program like Rutgers get blown off the field by UMass who have been 27 and 134 since 2012.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they were 29, they were 29 and a half point feed for it.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I mean, how Gianna is still in the job today is beyond me.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_03]: And then, I mean, the best thing of all, I mean, I mean, I might have a horse in this race, but Dabo getting the beat down from LSU was pretty
- 2:15[SPEAKER_03]: That was pretty nice, LSU looked pretty good, it was nice to see Sam Levitt playing well and you know just to also I think just being introduced to a lot of players that were either not necessarily on the draft radar but also you know looking ahead with the draft hat on to 28 you know some some young court of actually shining and standing out, Camaria Taylor at Mississippi State and
- 2:36[SPEAKER_03]: I know it's for a couple of picks, but JKS throwing some, you know, having some make some great throws and and the kid at pit Mason high and shot, I thought, you know, looked fantastic and I know how high they are on him, you know, and first quarterback, I think, to pass for it, the first FBS quarterback to pass for at least 450 yards and seven touchdowns without throwing a pick since Joe Barrow and, you know, that's lofty company.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, it was a good opening weekend, some good
- 3:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, I got darn close to that top 10 upside on a couple of occasions that I was I was sitting there found myself pulling for for Boise state and I found myself pulling for Louisville just to say like those games were really really fun and I
- 3:31[SPEAKER_02]: Kind of keep an eye on a certainly thing.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he led that team in rushing 14 attempts 69 yards in a score.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_02]: So three total touchdowns for him against Ole Miss with some of the talent that they have defensively Quarterback battles was a big thing like that match up with him and then changeless on the other side and what he did I actually really like one of my favorite games ended up being a 21-point decision But that UCLA cow game was really entertaining for about the first
- 3:58[SPEAKER_02]: 48 minutes and then Cal kind of crumbled and had a couple turnovers and UCLA had two one play touchdown drives and ends up being 45 to to 24, but obviously you're you're looking at Nico on the UCLA side of things and
- 4:14[SPEAKER_02]: So the traits that are there and a guy who kind of got forgot about because he went to Tennessee and things ended really ugly there with NIL and maybe in position to be a guy that takes a leap forward and then JKS on the other side for that class of 28 that sign an inch in like
- 4:31[SPEAKER_02]: We got a couple of really good matchups of college quarterback play that I don't know what one of these guys are going to don't be there at the end of the year this year or choose to go back to school or be there in 28 but college football can be kind of hit or miss because of the quarterback play and I thought there were a number of games that I really enjoyed watching the quarterback play in the midst of one ended up being entertaining games.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_03]: I thought Bob Chesney, what a great, what a great hire that was for you to see a lot interesting, you know, from James Madison and I didn't that day we could have gone a lot there, you know, going to Seoul out in Memorial Stadium and being Cal there, that was a, and they looked good.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_03]: I 200 and was at 275, 278 yards rushing or whatever and yeah.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_03]: So he picks a JKS and held the, held the bear to 7 points in the second half.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_03]: That was a,
- 5:20[SPEAKER_03]: You know, that's a, that's a great start for the Bruins, especially now the, you know, next three games, San Diego State Pérdeux, Maryland.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_03]: I think, and it's like, wow, okay, you go four and over for the Bruins.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, the first time in a long time, that's some, you know, a college football, I think I've always thought college football is better when the big schools, and I say this as a, as a,
- 5:40[SPEAKER_03]: the most disappointed foreign estate fan in the world, but UCLA historically when I was growing up in Nebraska, all of these kind of teams, it's great when they're kind of back and you love the Indiana story and those kind of things, but college football just feels better when Wisconsin and Nebraska or FSU UCLA are kind of kicking around at the top of the rankings.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_03]: So, nicely the Bruins back.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm going to stay in California for for my best things and I have three you see, Jayden Mayaba, I understand you haven't played anybody, but they look really good against Fresno State.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: It was 39 and nothing.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_00]: Their defense look good.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: Wayman Jordan looks like it's going to be a guy that's going to give him a little bit of balance.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: So you see was on the other side.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but we're serious.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_03]: He is a good player.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_03]: He's a good
- 6:31[SPEAKER_03]: That's some serious power there.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, USC was on the doorstep of the playoff last year.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're going to the playoff this year.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: So I like USC a lot this coming season to make the playoffs.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: Number two, you know where I'm staying.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: He's right behind me right there.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_02]: See you.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's, look, we say it all the time, this guy played perfect.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: Like I was perfect.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: Well, Darym Menzel was actually perfect.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I can't imagine a quarterback playing any better than what Darym Menzel played, 27 to 30.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: The three incompletions, you can make excuses for all three, really.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: And 400 and 1 yards, five touchdowns.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: He was so good he outshined the guy that had 12 for 234 and three touchdowns in Malachi, Tony.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: So he's my number two.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, miss game and Trinidad Chambers and I guess if I have to give it to one player or be Trinidad Chambers, I'm not so sure he is not the best quarterback in college football and gunned my head right now.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: I would say yes.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: He is the best quarterback in college football Trinidad Chambers.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: Louisville is exceptionally coached.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: We see it every single year with Jeff Brom.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: They have code defensive coordinators.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want them.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's called Mark Ivy.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: Steve
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: They kept showing both of them on the screen and I was like, oh my god, this this code defense coordinator thing is like it's odd to me.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: But Trinity at Tampa started that game off six for 12 had a fumble and interception and watching the game you're looking at anything like, well, this doesn't look all that great.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_00]: He just absolutely erupted after that and it was just one score after another, a pair of 62 yard scores.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: So I guess I'll finish there.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's the best quarterback in Karl's football.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: After one week, I think he played the best opponent.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: I had the best performance against the best opponent.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's the best quarterback in Karl's.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_03]: I love how he throws his guys open.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_03]: I don't certainly don't think it's a quarterback in college football.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_03]: The throws his guys open better than in China.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_03]: So that's that throw against Louisville.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_03]: where the receiver is a yard behind the corner on the cross or when you're looking at the old 22, but he can kind of see the angle that, you know, at release it, so when the ball gets there, sort of 30, 35 yards down fill in, it's in the perfect spot, introduce Alexander's hands and Alexander's like a couple of steps behind the corner when he's throwing it, but you know that the way the end, that was just a beautiful throw.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_03]: I just, yeah, he, the ball placement certainly the second half was absolutely superb.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I guess I'll throw that to Kyle before we get into what we're watching this week.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: Kyle, your thoughts on Trinity at Chambers.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: Is there is there a world?
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: Probably not because our our humanity's still around, but is there a world where Trinity at Chambers is thought of as a top 10, top 12 draft pick in this coming NFL draft.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_02]: I think he would have to play to the standard that he played against Louisville for the entire season because I thought, you know, off the last year's tape, you saw flashes, you saw, obviously the athleticism that he brings, but as an older player in a first year starter, it was kind of like, okay, I don't really know what to do with this as I'm projecting it if he to come out last year.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_02]: Now, if he plays like he did against Louisville the whole season, like, yeah, I think it's it's full steam ahead and I think the hype chain can certainly grow
- 9:52[SPEAKER_02]: People have, have tied probably a dozen quarterback names to potentially being top 50 top 100 picks and that are eligible for this year's class.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_02]: I think you'll get half that right so just the war of attrition of the season.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_02]: who keeps playing the right way, who decides there's a better NIL opportunity, who decides I need the extra year.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_02]: Does arch decide, you know what I don't want to go play for the jets of a carnal, so I'm gonna go back to school for another year, Texas.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_02]: I think this, this, this class that has been so romanticized is going to be good, but like, Mensa and Chamberlain, I thought were the two big winners as far as being in that pack that played and set a tone for their seasons.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_02]: Now, they have to go out and do it every single week.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, because I think the herd is going to be cold, I think it's going to get thinned out.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_02]: Those two guys got off on the right foot this season.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think everything you're going against in my office that, you know, he look at the guys that, that we kind of unitializing that cars just mentioned, you know, Archie's six foot four, Dante Morris six foot three, the Norris sellers is six foot three, you know, he gone down the list, meant so if he comes out is six foot three, my other six foot four, Drake Lindsey six foot five, Sam Levitt six foot two is slightly smaller.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_03]: Eomaly Arbor is six foot six, you know, that's the one thing in terms of the size getting with the channel being six foot and maybe even just a hair under that's the one thing that you think you're going to have to like her.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_03]: So you're going to have to perform at this standard every single week, drive in, drive out to be able to just over come that, that hurdle of his size versus the guys that end up coming out who are all in the, you know, six, six, three and above.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_02]: I had a spring measurement for him at 5117 from someone so that's just a just that eighth of an inch under six foot.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he has to find that eighth of an inch.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: It just looks better on.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_02]: I'll never start with a six.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: That's a big deal that you could show that.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_03]: How did you just a quick one?
- 11:58[SPEAKER_03]: How did you think some level played what was your impression?
- 12:01[SPEAKER_03]: You'll take away.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_02]: I like what he did with his legs, but that's kind of always where you're at with Sam.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_02]: And obviously the Clemson was all out of sorts defensively.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_02]: I liked how he was able to weaponize and I think it'll be healthy for him to get as I'm about as big of a Kenny Dillingham fan as there is, right?
- 12:21[SPEAKER_02]: But I think Sam getting out of that environment, getting to showcase himself in a different situation.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_02]: I think you saw some promise.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_02]: Am I ready to throw him into the upper or second tier of quarterback's eligible?
- 12:37[SPEAKER_02]: I don't.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_02]: I'd still probably fancy him as a fringe top 100 guy, just based off for kind of a trait.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_02]: Kind of like Kate club Nikki, right?
- 12:45[SPEAKER_02]: Like where club Nick goes drafted early fourth round.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_02]: Like that's kind of the stratosphere that I see Levitt right now to start.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_02]: Now if he goes through the SEC, he's going on it and he lays the wood on
- 12:59[SPEAKER_02]: I think he kind of, he strikes me as somebody who kind of is what he is from a gunslinger standpoint, but has athleticism to make plays when plays break down.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't know that there's consistent starter ceiling there with him, but I thought he did a nice job against Clemson.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_03]: I thought I'll ask you this question because I'm calm.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_03]: I've seen it and I suspect you might not have seen it, apologies if you have.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_03]: Um, what number writing on his first top 50 board does Todd McShay have some liver?
- 13:30[SPEAKER_03]: Carl, you can answer if you haven't seen it as well.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_02]: So I I heard enough of Todd talk about Sam to know that I know you're asking this for a reason.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I have no idea.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: Haven't seen it.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_03]: Just, no, no, just guess a number.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_02]: 25.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, Kyle.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_02]: He took the carrots way out and put the middle number.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_03]: I'll go 24 and go in the price right your price is writing.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_02]: I mean he's writing you.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_03]: Kyle wins on a price is right basis.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_03]: He's got him at number 20.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_03]: He's got him at number 20.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_03]: He has although it all be at one, two, three, four, five, six.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_03]: He's seventh quarterback at number 20.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, so he loves this class.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: He loves this quarterback.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_00]: So he's got, where are we?
- 14:17[SPEAKER_03]: Dante more at four.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_03]: Minster at seven, sellers at eight, manning at nine, Chandler at 11, CJ Carr at 13, Levitt at 20.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_03]: And then he has I am Aliavra at 36.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_03]: And Dimond Williams at 43 and Jade and my other at 47.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they got it very briefly before we go to break.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: What are you watching this week and I'll get us started.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_00]: I want to watch Oklahoma in the big house, not because Michigan is any good.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think they're very good.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_00]: Well, evidence by how they played this past week.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll touch in that to start the second half of the show.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: But I want to see if Oklahoma is anything more than just John material save us, right?
- 15:06[SPEAKER_00]: And the other thing I want to watch besides the obvious pick game in Austin, Texas is pit going up against UCF.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's a real opponent.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_00]: They're only a seven and a half point favorite.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_00]: I want to see Mason Heinchel see if he continues his success because if he does, that's going to be a pretty nice matchup because I think it'll be undefeated versus undefeated in about four weeks time if I had that correct.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: So it'll be five and oh Miami versus
- 15:33[SPEAKER_00]: 5-0 pit.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_00]: So that should be a pretty interesting game at Hard Rock Stadium.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_00]: So what are you watching, Sam?
- 15:40[SPEAKER_03]: Like you, Oklahoma Michigan.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously we're always in Texas.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_03]: Ohio State was talking about this again.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma Michigan, I think for me on the Michigan side, just how long till Tommy Car gets to start because it's obviously, you know, it's obviously not working to go about for Michigan and you know, that performance last week was,
- 15:55[SPEAKER_03]: you know, 95 yards against Western Mission and before the Hail Mary at the end from from bars was just not, yeah, that's just not acceptable, you know, especially given they paid $12 million, reportedly for for his signature.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_03]: I'm interested, I said him last week, I'm interested to see about Drew Mr. Maker against Oregon this week because I think he'd be priced badly again.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_03]: You almost certainly, at this point, even though it's two weeks in the season, say, you know, what the 20, 28 draft feels like a more comfortable position for you, that, you know, you just need a bit more time at this level.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_03]: And I think, you know, when you look at an upset special, out about having to travel to Kentucky is, you know, that's, you know, Kevin Jennings, that team, I know, you know, it wasn't, I don't think you're going to count beating for other states, particularly impressive, but, you know, that I think I'll be an interesting match of as well.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_03]: So those are the three games I'll be keeping on beyond the obvious.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_02]: cop.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_02]: I have two words for you.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_02]: Camario Taylor.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_02]: Mississippi State quarterback 19 years old six foot four 230 pounds put on a firework display.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_02]: This schedule for the Bulldog starting this week their at Minnesota.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_02]: Minnesota is not a murderous road.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_02]: They played U. L. Monroe, right?
- 17:06[SPEAKER_02]: I get it,
- 17:08[SPEAKER_02]: But you watch a quarterback for the football and guy kind of commands your attention and and Camario Taylor certainly with what he put on as far as the ability to drive the ball down the field with some of the dual thread ability that he has.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_02]: They got Minnesota on the road and then they go at South Carolina home against number 23 Missouri at our home against Alabama number 12 at number 8 LSU home against number 11 Oklahoma at number 4 Texas like this guy's got a chance starting this week if he can
- 17:44[SPEAKER_02]: build off of what he did against U.M.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_02]: on row and do it starting this week against Minnesota repass 2234 for touchdowns 354 yards this big time arm.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_02]: I'm really fascinated to see what he does as a name that was one of those guys that we kind of got the introduction to.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_02]: He played a little bit his freshman season last year, got a couple of opportunities, but
- 18:09[SPEAKER_02]: That's a name for me that I think could very quickly become a household name, and if he does, it's going to start with the performance against Minnesota as the launch point.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_03]: The number 40 seats caught back in the 2025 class as well.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_03]: That's um, yeah, that's astonishing.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_03]: When you consider how good he was at the weekend.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_00]: Alright, we're going to go to break and when we come back, we will hit on the news all over college football and that game of the week in Austin, Texas.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_00]: But first, let me tell you about my booking.

- 19:42[SPEAKER_00]: I guess we'll start with Western Michigan and Michigan.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_00]: So the game ends.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_00]: Western Michigan is on the field.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: They're celebrating.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: There's zeros on the clock.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_00]: You watch it in real life in real time and the ball's incomplete.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: There's zeros on the clock and you're like, well, Michigan went down week one.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they're not that
- 20:08[SPEAKER_00]: There's a foot out of bounds.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_00]: There's this mysterious clock that nobody knew about, where they find a clock somewhere that says, whoa, look at that.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: There's a one on that clock.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_00]: There's a foot out of bounds.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_00]: There's a guy touching the ball.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_00]: And there's one more play.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_00]: And as soon as that other play is going to happen, you just know, like, is something going to is shenanigans about to happen?
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: Is there going to be a passing in front?
- 20:35[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't think that we're going to complete a pass and just win the game.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_00]: I thought, you know what?
- 20:40[SPEAKER_00]: There's probably going to be a pass in a fair and snow and they're going to get a third shot at this.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_00]: No, touchdown.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_00]: Students storm the field at Michigan, which is odd.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_00]: then the AD comes out and I know this I'm going long on here because it's been an Odyssey the last few days with this.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_00]: The AD comes out and says, ah, you know, rules of the rules.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_00]: We lost, you know, give it a good shot.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_00]: Send us our check for $1.5 million please.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: Two days pass and we learn the officials should or not use that clock.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: And now what's your mission is like, no, give us the win.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: And now you're listening to all
- 21:23[SPEAKER_00]: So Michigan should just keep the win.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: And then there's all people like Paul Feinbaum saying, it doesn't matter, Michigan's not going to the playoff.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_00]: And if Western Michigan makes the playoff, they'll lose by 60 points in the first round.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_00]: So who cares?
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: So Simon, what did you make of this fiasco?
- 21:40[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, there's so many different angles that you can look at it.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_03]: I think a couple that stand out to me, one is what Mike Pereira said is that, you know, college replay officials are advised to use angles of a play with the game clock embedded and visible because, you know, that avoids a perception of any sort of impropriety that could come from.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_03]: you know making a rule in the context what people are seeing on TV and I think the second part of that is really obvious it is incomprehensible to me how in 2026 the conference is to employ officials who work the league's own non-conference gains that there are enough social media and Reddit and all of those things there's enough
- 22:17[SPEAKER_03]: You know, conspiracy theories and official inconsistencies as it is without introducing and really obvious conflict of interest that you could avoid really simply.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that, you know, there clearly is no.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, what are they going to do realistically?
- 22:33[SPEAKER_03]: They're not just going to turn around and go, oh, actually, you know, Western Michigan won the game because that would end up in a court process and they could drag down, drag down, drag down, drag down.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_03]: They could say, let's replay the game, but it feels like that was a perfect store moment and then Michigan win by 30 and everybody goes, ha, ha, ha, ha, you should just
- 22:47[SPEAKER_03]: sharp from the get go.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_03]: It just feels grubby but in a way it also feels really college football and that's kind of why we love the game in many regards.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_03]: Which kind of feels weird to say but yeah I just think there are some easily avoidable things to do.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_03]: I appreciated that the officiating conversation was came out and you could see that they were going through a process etc etc.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_03]: I think what the viewer sees on television and, you know, should be the definitive view.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_03]: And if it's said double zeros, then that to me should have been the end of the game.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_03]: And I feel sad for those kids, but actually in a way there's kind of a moral victory of, you know, of winning that game or that's not what a matter or anything when it comes to the end of the season.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, it's just a pretty kind of shorty way for it to start.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_02]: Carl?
- 23:34[SPEAKER_02]: We live in a world where college football programs just make stuff up all the time.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_02]: We currently live in a world where you can go to the UCF nights football Wikipedia page and they're credited with a national championship in 2017.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_02]: you could just choose to do whatever.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_02]: So if I'm Western Michigan, I'm choosing no we don't want to know full ball team, right?
- 23:59[SPEAKER_02]: Like, and you want to have it in dispute, let it be in dispute, right?
- 24:04[SPEAKER_02]: And I would encourage all the voters.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_02]: I believe I saw there was one AP voter that is recognizing Michigan as oh, it won on his ballot.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_02]: Like,
- 24:13[SPEAKER_02]: unfortunate reality is I don't think you can retroactively go back at this stage and change the the result of the game as it was deemed in real time at that point in time.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_02]: But this is college football, maybe.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_02]: But you could just say stuff and like make it happen.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_02]: Like we got national championships out of thin air.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_02]: We had a 20, 30 years ago, I think we had three teams claiming
- 24:39[SPEAKER_02]: If I'm Western Michigan, we're one and all.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just, I'm just going to keep telling everybody that I talked to that and I'm not going to allow that non-conference, disputed contest.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_02]: I'll say you saw triple zeros on the clock and we had the lead.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_02]: You tell me what our record is, right?
- 24:57[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's the best you can do in that situation because of how difficult it would be legally to change the result after the fact.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_02]: It sucks.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_02]: It really should be very easily avoidable as Simon said, but what are you going to do?
- 25:14[SPEAKER_02]: So if I'm Western Michigan, as far as I'm concerned, I'm one of those.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you're absolutely right about that call that calls football.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: They just make stuff up.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like I was only I was what eight months younger or when I learned that.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_00]: Notre Dame is grandfathered in somehow and why football reasons they're grandfathered in they finish in the top 12 They're in the playoff.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_00]: Why don't know they're in the playoff?
- 25:40[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, that's that's great He doesn't need to make.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_03]: I was like no, I see him.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, okay Yeah, but somehow it's like nah, don't worry about it.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's they're grandfathered in why what grandfathered in for what that doesn't matter They're in if they're in the top 12
- 25:58[SPEAKER_00]: moving on, speaking of, just making it up, the SSC, the SSC is evidently pretty serious about this.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_00]: They want to house LSU from, I don't know what that means.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_00]: There's nothing to play the same schedule, right?
- 26:13[SPEAKER_00]: Does that mean that they don't allow them on,
- 26:16[SPEAKER_00]: Visiting campuses to play these games like what does it mean that they're going to boot them out of the SEC, but it's all over Lane Kiffin one and two use professional players like I said the way the rule is written and What LSU and Lane Kiffin is fighting for?
- 26:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, they can actually, I guess, just offer the Dolphin's $50 million for Devon HN services this year.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it really is that dumb.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_00]: What LSU is trying to do.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_00]: But maybe have a different perspective on this Simon.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_00]: The LSU, as you see.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, Baloo.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_00]: LSU is finalizing their roster by the way, so there is some breaking news on that.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: They're still fighting for this, but they're finalizing their roster and they do not have those two pro players on the roster for their final 105 for the season.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't really plan on this timing.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I don't really blame how she for this.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_03]: Like this is, I mean, this is all a part of college sports eating itself from within, right?
- 27:18[SPEAKER_03]: But this goes back to the NCAA who, you know, when they're not shooting themselves in the face, they're shooting themselves in the foot.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_03]: changing the eligibility rules.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, the whole thing was ridiculous, which obviously led to that kind of wave of lawsuits from from recruits from that 2022 class.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_03]: And as you say this morning or overnight, that LSU added those two players,
- 27:40[SPEAKER_03]: Gabriel Ralphford and an aide-nending who both were on the roster last year and so removing the possibly of day one right and Xavier and Harris to come back in.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_03]: And I just kind of feel sorry for for those two guys in a way.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I do and I don't the advice that they got to, you know, maybe they were told they weren't going to make this, you know, their team's roster's in the NFL and that was fine and they decided to go back, but it just feels, again, just feels really ugly,
- 28:06[SPEAKER_03]: And also the, you know, the SEC will not kick LSU, you know, one of the most storied front franchises, whatever you want to call it, storied institutions, brands, whatever, out of the SEC that won't happen.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_03]: I think part of it is just the fact that lots of people just hate lane kiffin, you know, and I sort of at the end of the game pushing this student and it's just like he's just one of the most
- 28:30[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it's like, well, up people.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't do like that.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_00]: That halftime speech that was leaked.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: Lake, if Lake, Lake, if his team is up 31 to 3, and he's screaming at the top of his lungs, set a message, and that message has to be go after yourself.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, all right.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_03]: It was, I can't, I'm struggling to think of two coaches more hated.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_03]: that I hate more than those two going off against each other on Saturday night.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, I just think part of that is down to the fact that just people don't like Kifri and they're not at least stands for and he's actually doing those sorts of things.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_03]: But also, I just couldn't ever see us in our area where the brand is booted out of the biggest, most important, most powerful sporting conference in college sports.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_03]: That's just not going to be a thing.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_03]: Can you imagine the
- 29:21[SPEAKER_03]: and those sorts of things, it would just drag on for forever.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm glad the LSU have done what they've done.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_03]: I can't wait to hear more salty press conferences from Lane Kiffin complaining about, imagine what we've done to Clemson if we've had professional players playing.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_03]: Those sorts of things.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's tiresome, but I think it will kind of, it will be, as we would say in this country, it would be tomorrow's fishing ship paper.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_03]: And people forget that and move on.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_02]: This is kind of stuff, I just Just put the ball down and snap the ball throw like give me a break like I get it's personalities it's brand it's you got to have a bold personality to stand out and appeal players and everybody wants to come play for a guy that's going to have the edge.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know man just
- 30:14[SPEAKER_02]: The rules are changing so fast that it's just a sprint to capitalize on a loophole before you can close the loophole that you realize exists.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_02]: Like, and I think it's a shame that that's kind of what NCAA has become in a lot of ways in the last couple years where it's just.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_02]: As for forgiveness, not for permission, right?
- 30:35[SPEAKER_02]: And then you step on your toes and it's perfect storm or lanes the kind of guy that doesn't carry, he's just going to say whatever.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_02]: And then you get into a big pissing contest about it.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_02]: And here we are.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_02]: And now all the SEC says we want the right to kick you out.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_02]: If you
- 30:47[SPEAKER_02]: This is all bad enough.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm glad that this loophole is closed for now.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_02]: And unless you can hopefully focus on being a good entertaining football team that will give me something to enjoy when I watch her team on TV other than trade as green.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_00]: So let's move on here.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_00]: And this is where we will close the show.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_00]: The game of the week obviously Ohio State Texas.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody's we will be watching that Saturday
- 31:16[SPEAKER_00]: What I'm watching is, and I know it was North Texas, so I don't want to get too excited.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_00]: Our expanding looks like a different player from one year, not toward the end of the year last year, because our expanding did actually look like this toward the end of the year last year.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_00]: Smechanics are smooth.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he played fine.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like at some point you two get bored playing North Texas with that roster.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_00]: So that they didn't win by 70, I don't think that that's a big deal.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think we'll see something this week, that they gave up 396 yards I believe.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that that's an indictment on the Texas defense.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's an indictment on this schedule and they were just board out of their minds.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_00]: I do expect this to be a really good game.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_00]: and I expect Archmany to play well and what's essentially a revenge game for him.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_00]: So that's my game of the week and I'll be enjoying this one.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of players to watch.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_00]: And the winner of this game, my opinion, should be a top 4 seed, which means a buy.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_00]: So I'll be intently watching because that just takes away one spot from the Nordadames, from the Miami, etc.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_00]: You're a game of the week.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_00]: Simon.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, it's this one.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, you know, the opportunity to see so many of these players, you know, Jeremiah Smith, it's the, you know, it's not just Smith, but the receiver.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_03]: It's definitely cute, and you know, how's he going to progress and the junior and you think, you know, started well last week and, you know, certainly somebody that's on the draft radar.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_03]: Manning.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_03]: I thought I thought Dan Olofski was really interesting on him yesterday talking about how.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_03]: how much more in sink his body is, how much more balanced the years and we all know the kind of a physical talent that he's got, the arm strength, the ability in the muddy pocket that he deals with so well and it's just seeing that against a, you know, a defense that's significant, he better than the one he just played, you know, the Cam Coleman and Ryan Wingo on the other side, all the kind of being just real off name after name after name.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_03]: I'm intrigued to see Melvin C. I need to
- 33:18[SPEAKER_03]: that takes us tackle, I think he's a really, really good player and, you know, ascending in the first round, you know, how high in the first round can he end up going?
- 33:27[SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, this is going to be a great game.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be, you know, a potential national championship appetizer.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_03]: So, yeah, it's a big, hyped game and I think it'll end up living up to the, um, living up to the
- 33:43[SPEAKER_02]: Kyle.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_02]: My game of the week is Wafford vs Ken State.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_02]: And it's Texas.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_02]: It's the game that is everything that you could possibly hope for from an early season showcase.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_02]: And I know when this game was played last year, it kind of,
- 34:09[SPEAKER_02]: I don't say it felt flat because there's an entertaining game, but it was kind of like Texas really didn't get anything rolling offensively and low scoring games.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of like some of the fireworks.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_02]: I expect there to be some more in the way fireworks in this game and excited to see Ohio State have to come down and then play it Memorial Stadium and I think it'll be awesome TV and I'm hoping this game delivers in everything that we hope that
- 34:36[SPEAKER_00]: uh uh we're gonna go out here but I will give you one play um my my bookie play I love watching this game every single year for how boring it is so if there's a non game of the week it's Iowa State Iowa they're over under it's 40 and a half so watch a college football game have an over under a 40 and a half is kind of gigaworthy take the under.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's it.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_00]: There is no more.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_00]: We will be back with you next week.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_00]: Surely we'll have more to talk about.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they'll make some more news.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe LSU.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe the reverse the Western Michigan Michigan game and we talk about that.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_00]: But we'll have plenty of talk about we'll talk about the results and we'll talk about next week's game of the week.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_00]: But until then.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for listening to three yards per catty.
