- 0:00Speaker 1: Ship boys. Make sure y'all check me out Bootleg CAV Podcasting,
- 0:05Speaker 1: bom Boutlet CAV podcast. Special guests in here represent Philly. Yes, sir,
- 0:14Speaker 1: my guys man, welcome bro. You already know King of
- 0:17Speaker 1: battle Rap, the King of battle rap. What makes you
- 0:19Speaker 1: free styles? What makes you the king of battle rap er?
- 0:21Speaker 1: I've been doing it before battle Leagues was battle leagues.
- 0:24Speaker 1: That's why I'm the King of battle rap. Before they
- 0:25Speaker 1: start up made it a corporate thing and bring it
- 0:28Speaker 1: into the building and kind of monetized it. I was
- 0:30Speaker 1: I was battle rapping. That's how I mean. What is
- 0:32Speaker 1: about Philly man that the battle rap shit is just
- 0:35Speaker 1: so like, you know, I feel like you guys are
- 0:38Speaker 1: just like a walking Smack DVD out there. Yeah, man,
- 0:41Speaker 1: it's real. The coach is real heavy. Out there is
- 0:44Speaker 1: a Commonwealth's city, so it's like state and it's just
- 0:48Speaker 1: like real competitive, and we all bunched in together. It's
- 0:51Speaker 1: like row houses and so it's people on top of people.
- 0:53Speaker 1: So the competitiveness is real heavy. So when it comes
- 0:55Speaker 1: to battle rap is real aggressive and sometimes they can
- 0:59Speaker 1: spill out into streets. I technically technically was in Philly once. Okay,
- 1:04Speaker 1: but it was only because I rode the train through
- 1:05Speaker 1: from DC to New York. But they did stop. There
- 1:08Speaker 1: was like a stop in Chester and I looked out
- 1:10Speaker 1: the window. Chester, Pennsylvania looks like it might be the
- 1:13Speaker 1: worst place on the planet. No, it is. It's real bad.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I remember just looking out the window on my train
- 1:19Speaker 1: and there was like two like naked kids just in
- 1:22Speaker 1: the streets running around, and I remember being like, where
- 1:24Speaker 1: the fuck am like a third world country? Put my
- 1:27Speaker 1: maps on said Chester and then I googled it and
- 1:30Speaker 1: I was like always lit out here, shout out to Chester, man,
- 1:34Speaker 1: I need to get out to Philly. Hey, what is
- 1:35Speaker 1: the because I always hear if you go to Philadelphia
- 1:38Speaker 1: that there is like the tourist cheesesteak spot, but then
- 1:41Speaker 1: there's like the real spot, right Well, max Max is
- 1:45Speaker 1: like the spot where you want to go to get
- 1:47Speaker 1: a real, authentic cheese steak. Gino's is the tourist spots,
- 1:51Speaker 1: So don't go to Gino's. I'm not going belittle any
- 1:57Speaker 1: landmark in Philly, right It's not what I'm into. What
- 1:59Speaker 1: I'm just saying overrated. If you want to go get
- 2:01Speaker 1: authentic cheese steak, go to maxis broadinary. It's almost like
- 2:06Speaker 1: when people come to LA and they expect Rosco's to
- 2:08Speaker 1: be like the best food they were eating, and it's like, guys,
- 2:11Speaker 1: it's just do I come here? That's what they say, Like, Bro,
- 2:14Speaker 1: you want to go to rad school? Like it's okay,
- 2:15Speaker 1: But I've been coming out here since the early two thousands,
- 2:17Speaker 1: so I'm like over the like yeah, like the first
- 2:21Speaker 1: time being out here type shit. So everybody want to
- 2:24Speaker 1: come that come out La. They want to go to
- 2:25Speaker 1: rad schools. But it's all right, yeah, I'm saying, but
- 2:28Speaker 1: if you've been into Atlanta and Glad, it's just the
- 2:30Speaker 1: same thing. Or if you go to Arizona go to
- 2:32Speaker 1: Lolos Chicken and Waffles. I would argue to say it's
- 2:35Speaker 1: the best chicken and waffle spot I've ever had shots
- 2:37Speaker 1: to Lolos for sure. When did you feel like the
- 2:41Speaker 1: battle rap shit? Because like you're I feel like you're
- 2:43Speaker 1: really in your bag right now when it comes to
- 2:45Speaker 1: like being looked at as like one of the elite
- 2:47Speaker 1: guys in that world, Like when do you feel like
- 2:49Speaker 1: you kind of had hit your stride in terms of
- 2:51Speaker 1: getting your respect in that world? Because it's like a
- 2:53Speaker 1: very it's like almost like a I feel like you
- 2:58Speaker 1: could be a diehard hip hop head and not know
- 3:00Speaker 1: what the fuck's going on in the battle rap world
- 3:02Speaker 1: because they are so different, and it is like such
- 3:06Speaker 1: a subgenre of It's almost like we have to be
- 3:09Speaker 1: baptizing the battle rap coature. Now you have to go
- 3:12Speaker 1: through something. You have to have a near death experience
- 3:14Speaker 1: or com close to dying from them to even sanctify
- 3:17Speaker 1: you as being anybody that has any validity of saying
- 3:20Speaker 1: anything or speaking about battle rap coach. It's that intense, right,
- 3:24Speaker 1: so I don't speak it. So with that being said,
- 3:29Speaker 1: it's a high regard for battle rappers and their accountability.
- 3:32Speaker 1: So over the weekend it was a battle rap. It
- 3:35Speaker 1: was a battle big battle League. You were here, that
- 3:37Speaker 1: was here for that. So it was the Ownership battle League,
- 3:39Speaker 1: which in the main event being a King Bob versus Daylight.
- 3:42Speaker 1: They like being a residence in West Coast, So yeah,
- 3:45Speaker 1: like a beast, so shot them they like. And we
- 3:48Speaker 1: are from the same battle rap click which is Dot
- 3:51Speaker 1: Me t Rex, Murder, Moot, Daylight, Big Cannon, real deal.
- 3:55Speaker 1: So is that's a serious crew. You guys are like
- 3:58Speaker 1: the nWo battle Rap and a lot of flat from
- 4:00Speaker 1: that from being from Philly and being that as a
- 4:02Speaker 1: New York based click, but Daylights from l A right,
- 4:06Speaker 1: so it's all over there. Yeah, is there other clicks
- 4:09Speaker 1: like that? Yeah? You got gun Titles. You got the Goonies,
- 4:12Speaker 1: which is aheaded by Twerk. You got gun Titles, which
- 4:16Speaker 1: was kind of like Coke Coke Coke founded by h
- 4:20Speaker 1: Tay Rock and sus Surf was so yeah, you got
- 4:24Speaker 1: little like clicks dark Side, you got a bris Rowstein
- 4:28Speaker 1: and t Top So it's like little sub clicks and
- 4:31Speaker 1: what's the name of our nitties from Phoenix? Right from
- 4:33Speaker 1: me from Phoenix? He's down with a fuck my bad
- 4:38Speaker 1: gech Gotti and him are called every fucking bar e
- 4:42Speaker 1: f B. I like that. See all this ship Like
- 4:45Speaker 1: I know the names, but bro, I'm not in tune
- 4:49Speaker 1: with the battleship like that. I just feel like I
- 4:50Speaker 1: don't have the bandwidth to like learn this. Like when
- 4:53Speaker 1: I was a kid, I used to download the battles
- 4:55Speaker 1: on Napster, like when it was like Supernatural and Juice. Yeah,
- 4:59Speaker 1: those those guys is like almost like ancient artifacts compared
- 5:03Speaker 1: to where it's at now. And then I would no
- 5:05Speaker 1: disrespect for those guys. Guys are the fucking goats. They
- 5:08Speaker 1: are the fucking gods of the ship with the freestyling
- 5:10Speaker 1: off the top of the dunk ship in the room
- 5:13Speaker 1: and all that. In the crowd, it's different. It's not
- 5:16Speaker 1: brand motherfucker's got wavy hair, dreadlocks, bald these these crip
- 5:20Speaker 1: members is blood members, Latin King Well no, and then
- 5:24Speaker 1: like there was like the Smack DVD era and like
- 5:26Speaker 1: I got my name because I used to sell a
- 5:28Speaker 1: bunch of bootleg mixtapes and and DVDs and ship at
- 5:31Speaker 1: the Swami, So I was like the Smack DVD eras
- 5:33Speaker 1: are probably the highest peak of me being like super
- 5:37Speaker 1: engaged in that ship. And then obviously I know who's
- 5:40Speaker 1: killing it, Like I know yourself. I know murder Mook
- 5:43Speaker 1: sues my boy rum Nitti is incredible. Uh. Yeah, there's
- 5:48Speaker 1: there's guys that, especially Loaded Lux, you know all these guys.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Of course, there are legends that if you're a part
- 5:54Speaker 1: of the culture, you have to know who they are.
- 5:55Speaker 1: I'm just not I haven't bro I've watched a few,
- 5:58Speaker 1: like in the last year, but like when there's these
- 6:02Speaker 1: big events, I feel like I'll just catch the highlights
- 6:05Speaker 1: on Twitter, right, So batter rap it's like a it's
- 6:10Speaker 1: like a revolving door. So you're only good as your
- 6:12Speaker 1: last battle and if you don't do very well, they
- 6:14Speaker 1: put you in a box. So I mean, if you
- 6:17Speaker 1: don't do other things to h to like to pose that.
- 6:21Speaker 1: So I went and built the whole leverage on the
- 6:23Speaker 1: other side of the spectrum with my music, reintroducing myself
- 6:26Speaker 1: as an artist or red and creating myself always into
- 6:28Speaker 1: the point and putting out a new project where I
- 6:30Speaker 1: got the battle rap culture and there I got tay
- 6:32Speaker 1: rock on there, I got method Man, I got Benny
- 6:34Speaker 1: the Butcher, I got a vital Corey Guns, Beanie Siegel Freeway,
- 6:40Speaker 1: I got all of like the top spinners on my Jones.
- 6:43Speaker 1: So I used that the leverage and the buzz that
- 6:45Speaker 1: I built with my freestyles on social media and the
- 6:47Speaker 1: content and uh and and and the projects and the
- 6:50Speaker 1: materity I was putting out outside of batter rap to
- 6:52Speaker 1: leverage batter rap to get the bigger bags in the
- 6:54Speaker 1: bigger looks. Because once you lose in the eyes of
- 6:57Speaker 1: the culture, they put you in a certain box and
- 6:58Speaker 1: it's like boxing. You got to climb back up the
- 7:01Speaker 1: ranks until you get to the top brass and compete
- 7:03Speaker 1: with like the top tier guys. And if you got
- 7:05Speaker 1: the catalog, you got the music outside of it. It's
- 7:07Speaker 1: almost like it it would behoove them to not include
- 7:11Speaker 1: you and shit, because you got a fan base, you
- 7:13Speaker 1: running it up on your own, you know what I'm
- 7:15Speaker 1: saying for sure, and shout out. I mean a lot
- 7:17Speaker 1: of there is there is a stereotype, and I don't
- 7:20Speaker 1: know how true it is or not, but back in
- 7:22Speaker 1: the day, there used to be a lot of the
- 7:24Speaker 1: guys who did battle rap weren't great at making records.
- 7:28Speaker 1: I mean, that's the number one stigment. And I was
- 7:30Speaker 1: the guy who bridged that gap gap. I was one
- 7:32Speaker 1: of the first guys who started out battle rapping on
- 7:35Speaker 1: the corners of Philadelphia and in front of the Chinese
- 7:38Speaker 1: stalls and stuff like that, and actually took it corporate
- 7:41Speaker 1: and made an album and came out with a full
- 7:43Speaker 1: fledged album and you, I mean was able to you know,
- 7:46Speaker 1: go like walk on, take a walk on both sides
- 7:48Speaker 1: right and still having a seat planet and battle rap
- 7:51Speaker 1: coach as well as like mainstream I mean releases and
- 7:55Speaker 1: stuff like that. Because at two thousand and eight, when
- 7:56Speaker 1: I battled Mike signed the World Series of Hip Hop,
- 7:58Speaker 1: I was still currently sign a boy and was like
- 8:01Speaker 1: currently like back then, recording for my solo release. My
- 8:06Speaker 1: son shot Tolf, So yeah, so like that's how far
- 8:08Speaker 1: I go back, And that was before Smack was created.
- 8:11Speaker 1: At that event, Smack was the actual cameraman. He was
- 8:13Speaker 1: hired to do a service. So now look at them
- 8:16Speaker 1: now to where they're a full fledged company and got
- 8:17Speaker 1: the caffeine dail and all the things they got going on.
- 8:20Speaker 1: So I was a part of that. I'm a part
- 8:22Speaker 1: of those building blocks. I just don't get my credit,
- 8:24Speaker 1: but I embraced that fact. So that's why I'm here
- 8:26Speaker 1: still twenty years later, beating these young opponents up, beating
- 8:29Speaker 1: a new competition, up, getting there with the youngins. Let
- 8:32Speaker 1: them know that a guy that's considered some would say
- 8:37Speaker 1: pass his proms still got enough in the tank to
- 8:39Speaker 1: get in there and destroy these guys, these young cats. Hey,

- 11:50Speaker 1: How did that? First of all, that's a big, big connect.
- 11:53Speaker 1: I remember you were supposed to come on the show
- 11:54Speaker 1: and he was like, bro, I'm with Kanye right now.
- 11:56Speaker 1: I was like, don't even worry about it. You even
- 11:59Speaker 1: sent me a pick like believe you don't worry about that. Yeah, no,
- 12:02Speaker 1: because everybody you know, I just want to sorry by
- 12:05Speaker 1: saying I knew Kanye for over twenty five years, way
- 12:08Speaker 1: before he was saying I always knew what he was
- 12:11Speaker 1: going to do. Yeah, I know, always knew he was different.
- 12:13Speaker 1: And just just short story. We had a mutual friend
- 12:17Speaker 1: playing Pat and Phillris Buler. They there was executives over
- 12:21Speaker 1: def Jam had dropped, so uh, you know we have
- 12:27Speaker 1: mutual friends and dur like during the recording process, I
- 12:30Speaker 1: up making the band album. I invited him to the
- 12:32Speaker 1: to the crib recording and soho at the Double Brownstone.
- 12:37Speaker 1: By chance, mister Bentley said we couldn't have no company.
- 12:40Speaker 1: So I had to tell Kanye he couldn't come in
- 12:43Speaker 1: and submit beats. And then two years later, mister Bentley
- 12:45Speaker 1: signed to Good Music. That's so hilarious. I forgot that
- 12:49Speaker 1: he got signed. I forgot Diddy's assistant had a record
- 12:52Speaker 1: deal and put out some records. Yep. So that was crazy.
- 12:55Speaker 1: I always me and finds the worth. Always laugh about this.
- 12:58Speaker 1: You don't even remember when you let Kanye in and
- 13:00Speaker 1: now you're signing him. That shit's hilarious. So me and
- 13:03Speaker 1: Kanye had a relationship and by my Instagram a presence
- 13:07Speaker 1: and just dropping freestyles of being consistent. He's seen one
- 13:10Speaker 1: of notice styles. He said, Yo, been my bro for
- 13:13Speaker 1: a minute, come out and gave me an open invitation
- 13:15Speaker 1: to come you know, some writing sessions with him. Yeah,
- 13:18Speaker 1: so I saw that. You know, there was the I
- 13:22Speaker 1: don't know if that documentary is ever going to come out,
- 13:23Speaker 1: but he was previewing a record and you were saying
- 13:26Speaker 1: that you were on that record with him and Soldier Boy. Yeah.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Well I did some references, so he was actually hearing
- 13:32Speaker 1: me playing a reference off my phone for him. In
- 13:35Speaker 1: the footage, he was both in the car and you know,
- 13:38Speaker 1: I mean I forgot he was being taped because he's
- 13:40Speaker 1: being taped filmed all day long. If you're like helping ya, right,
- 13:44Speaker 1: what is the what mind state you have to be in?
- 13:46Speaker 1: If you're like I have to help the like one
- 13:48Speaker 1: of the greatest artists of all time. It was just
- 13:54Speaker 1: it's not like working for Diddy. Working for Ditty is
- 13:57Speaker 1: like real. So okay, So everybody asked me why I
- 14:00Speaker 1: put out so much material on why I'm so it
- 14:03Speaker 1: seems like me, it's an easy transposition for me to
- 14:06Speaker 1: keep putting out these constant freestyles. Well, when I came
- 14:09Speaker 1: up in a bad boy system, they used to make
- 14:11Speaker 1: us write five verses for every verse. So if we
- 14:13Speaker 1: was doing a three verse song, I would have to
- 14:15Speaker 1: write five verse fifteen verses per song. Wow, So and
- 14:19Speaker 1: then you pick the best one, which usually is the
- 14:21Speaker 1: first fucking verse you wrote, right, So from there you're like,
- 14:25Speaker 1: so I got thirteen extra I got fourteen extra verses
- 14:29Speaker 1: just just just unused, unused. Do you still do that? Yeah?
- 14:35Speaker 1: Every now and then. Well, back in the mixtape games,
- 14:37Speaker 1: with mixtapes for Heavy, I would take the the the
- 14:40Speaker 1: DJ Sycamores and all those type of guys. So, no
- 14:44Speaker 1: matter whether I like the beat or not, And this
- 14:46Speaker 1: is what I got from Diddy. This is one of
- 14:47Speaker 1: the lessons I got from Diddy. He was like, that's
- 14:50Speaker 1: just not writing about the writ into the beasts that
- 14:52Speaker 1: you don't like. He's it's not about writing to the
- 14:54Speaker 1: beasts that you do like. Try writing to the beats
- 14:56Speaker 1: that you don't like. So then when you hear a
- 14:58Speaker 1: beat that you do like, it's like fucking it's like water. Yeah,
- 15:02Speaker 1: so I take I take every beat off the beat
- 15:05Speaker 1: CD and write it's sixteen to it, no matter whether
- 15:07Speaker 1: I like it or not. Hey, that's how you sharpen
- 15:09Speaker 1: your your paying for real, because if you can write
- 15:11Speaker 1: to some ship you don't fuck with, then if you
- 15:13Speaker 1: start writing for somebody else and they might not be
- 15:16Speaker 1: in your bag. Now I got an endless supply material.
- 15:19Speaker 1: So when I do go do these writing sessions, it's
- 15:21Speaker 1: not me physically half of the right now you can
- 15:24Speaker 1: just I'm just pulling it out. I'm just pulling ideas
- 15:27Speaker 1: out from everywhere. Wow, that's that's crazy. Uh, you got
- 15:31Speaker 1: the new project out? Sure? Is this a mixing? This
- 15:34Speaker 1: is a mixtape? Shut up, everybody. I know everything is digitized.
