Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Out of the gates and on Sporting State, this is
- 0:03Speaker 1: Hutton and Withrow. He's Chad Withrow. I'm Jonathan Hutton. We
- 0:06Speaker 1: are presented by Hard Rock Bad. Chad, good morning to you, man.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hope things are well.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Good morning, Hutton.
- 0:10Speaker 3: I love Coach Derek Dooley, but listening to that again
- 0:13Speaker 3: reminds me I've got to get some other people doing
- 0:17Speaker 3: some intros. Every day it's a reminder as we start
- 0:19Speaker 3: the show. Got to follow up with people that are
- 0:22Speaker 3: also recording intros for us so we can freshen.
- 0:24Speaker 2: That bad boy up.
- 0:25Speaker 1: But I love you, Coach Dooley.
- 0:27Speaker 2: I love that voice.
- 0:27Speaker 3: I love that dose of humility every morning as we
- 0:30Speaker 3: open the show.
- 0:31Speaker 1: I think you'll appreciate this. Like I sent a couple
- 0:33Speaker 1: out and I'm like, oh, wait, we actually want to
- 0:35Speaker 1: do those on video.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:37Speaker 1: We want to see, there's certain people we want to like,
- 0:39Speaker 1: we absolutely want this on video. We've got to, I've
- 0:42Speaker 1: got to start thinking about it through that manner instead
- 0:45Speaker 1: of just the animation. You know what I mean?
- 0:48Speaker 2: Didn't even think about the video part of it.
- 0:49Speaker 3: So now I'm going to be following up with some
- 0:51Speaker 3: different texts and some links to record themselves on video
- 0:54Speaker 3: so we're going to take care of that but hey
- 0:56Speaker 3: we've had a hell of a week here on the
- 0:58Speaker 3: show yeah it's been great there's been a lot to
- 1:00Speaker 3: talk about i feel like every day every week we
- 1:02Speaker 3: arrive at a friday hutton and you kind of look
- 1:05Speaker 3: back at the week and think what were the biggest
- 1:07Speaker 3: stories that hit that we were talking about and it
- 1:10Speaker 3: seems like every single day this week getting ready for
- 1:13Speaker 3: the weekend it's been building and building like hurricane isaias
- 1:18Speaker 3: isaias I finally found out how.
- 1:20Speaker 2: To pronounce it. Isaias? Isaias. Isaias. Isaias. Let me say
- 1:25Speaker 2: it again. Hurricane Isaias. Isaias. Okay, so it was what
- 1:27Speaker 2: we thought. I watched the Weather.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Channel yesterday and heard them say it over and over,
- 1:31Speaker 3: and I practiced in the mirror before the show started,
- 1:33Speaker 3: and I still can't pronounce it perfectly every time.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Isaias.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Hurricane Isaias is how you pronounce it. As it continues
- 1:40Speaker 3: to build, our show has continued to build day after day,
- 1:43Speaker 3: hour after hour, leading right here to us on a
- 1:46Speaker 3: Friday morning, Hutton.
- 1:48Speaker 2: I am jazzed up. I'm excited.
- 1:49Speaker 3: I'm on cup of coffee number two already. Thank you,
- 1:51Speaker 3: David Crockett Coffee, for your boost this morning.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I'm ready to go.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Cup three turns into David Crockett.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Yes.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Cup three, and I'm ready to defend the Alamo. That's
- 2:03Speaker 3: how good this coffee is.
- 2:05Speaker 2: It's official.
- 2:06Speaker 1: It is sold at the Alamo, which is just fantastic. Chad,
- 2:11Speaker 1: last night, Esaias was Jalen Daniels. Quarterback for the Tampa
- 2:16Speaker 1: Bay Buccaneers.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Whoa. Here we go. Three weeks in a row now, Chad.
- 2:20Speaker 1: The ultimate underdog has gone in on Thursday night and
- 2:24Speaker 1: not just won, but whipped the opposing team.
- 2:28Speaker 2: On the road, too.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Because we had it three weeks ago. It was Atlanta
- 2:31Speaker 1: and Green Bay. Last week was Cleveland and Pittsburgh. And
- 2:36Speaker 1: last night, we see Tampa Bay coming in winless and
- 2:39Speaker 1: winning with their backup quarterback in Dallas against a relatively
- 2:44Speaker 1: healthy Cowboys team. Next week, I think we know which
- 2:48Speaker 1: way we're playing that line at Hard Rock.
- 2:50Speaker 3: These Thursday night games, I don't know if it's a
- 2:52Speaker 3: total aberration for the season or if Jalen Daniels and
- 2:56Speaker 3: the Tampa Bay Bucs, after starting 0-4, are really going
- 2:59Speaker 3: to get things going after that road win against Dallas
- 3:01Speaker 3: last night, or we're going to look back and think, boy,
- 3:04Speaker 3: these Thursday night games have some crazy outcomes that have
- 3:07Speaker 3: nothing to do with the remainder of the season, but
- 3:09Speaker 3: a horrible loss for the Dallas Cowboys. A great win
- 3:13Speaker 3: with a backup quarterback on the road for Tampa Bay Hutton.
- 3:16Speaker 3: But I just look at this more as a missed
- 3:17Speaker 3: opportunity for Dallas to get above 500, collect what should
- 3:22Speaker 3: have been a relative for the NFL, easy win at
- 3:25Speaker 3: home against an 0-14 with a backup quarterback. And instead,
- 3:30Speaker 3: you've got Cowboys employees trash-talking Dak Prescott as he leaves
- 3:35Speaker 3: the field.
- 3:36Speaker 2: And look, rightfully so. Rightfully so.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Chad, this is exactly the way to handle, if you're
- 3:45Speaker 1: Dak Prescott, it's a good example for young quarterbacks on
- 3:48Speaker 1: how to handle bad times, right? It's exactly what I
- 3:53Speaker 1: would say Cam Ward, when you see Cam Ward struggling
- 3:58Speaker 1: in Nashville, that's the way that you watch Dak Prescott
- 4:02Speaker 1: and the media scrutiny. that the Cowboys are under all
- 4:06Speaker 1: the time 24 7 it's like playing in New York
- 4:08Speaker 1: right I would say even like the Cowboys website is
- 4:13Speaker 1: more 50 50 on on coverage of that team than
- 4:16Speaker 1: you would ever believe than the the the uh state
- 4:20Speaker 1: run radio you know the state websites that are always
- 4:23Speaker 1: going to cover themselves in a positive light Cowboys actually
- 4:26Speaker 1: have columnists that are just go at you um There
- 4:30Speaker 1: are lessons to be learned there. By the way, the
- 4:32Speaker 1: next two Thursday nights, it's hard to really pick out
- 4:35Speaker 1: the ultimate underdog. We've got Seahawks and Broncos next Thursday.
- 4:39Speaker 1: And then we have Patriots-Bears. So, Al Michaels and Kirk
- 4:42Speaker 1: Curbstreet are going to be just fine the next two Thursdays.
- 4:46Speaker 2: But don't you agree?
- 4:46Speaker 1: You mentioned all the stories we've covered this week. We
- 4:51Speaker 1: covered the national media members saying that it was so
- 4:54Speaker 1: hostile in Nashville.
- 4:56Speaker 2: You want hostility here.
- 4:59Speaker 3: You want to see hostility, Hutton? We have the video now.
- 5:02Speaker 3: This is Dak Prescott as he's leaving his own field
- 5:06Speaker 3: in Dallas, home game, after a home loss. And this
- 5:10Speaker 3: is just some, I'm guessing, security personnel, loading dock person
- 5:15Speaker 3: in the bowels of the stadium for the Cowboys. Here's
- 5:19Speaker 3: what happened as he exits the field.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Yeah. And Dak Prescott just stares. Hey, I give Dak
- 5:34Speaker 2: Prescott a lot of credit here.
- 5:36Speaker 3: One, I think a lesser, more hostile person in that
- 5:41Speaker 3: setting would have probably run at the person and made
- 5:44Speaker 3: it even more viral because it would have been on video.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Would have said something bad. He just looked and stared like,
- 5:50Speaker 3: are you going to say it again? Is that what
- 5:53Speaker 3: you're saying to me? To whoever was trash talking him
- 5:56Speaker 3: on the way off the field. Incredible restraint showed by
- 5:59Speaker 3: Dak Prescott. He gets in the press conference, and I
- 6:02Speaker 3: think it's a master class on how to handle disappointment.
- 6:05Speaker 3: He was asked about it, and he said it was embarrassing.
- 6:09Speaker 3: I was looking back thinking, well, the guy said it
- 6:12Speaker 3: to my face. Is he going to say it again?
- 6:15Speaker 3: He said it as I was walking by. I wanted
- 6:17Speaker 3: to see that.
- 6:17Speaker 2: But then he said, I'm embarrassed that this is even
- 6:19Speaker 2: a thing.
- 6:20Speaker 3: I wish that hadn't happened as I'm walking off the field,
- 6:23Speaker 3: but I'm embarrassed that we're talking about this after an
- 6:25Speaker 3: embarrassing performance. I thought he handled it with a lot
- 6:28Speaker 3: of humility. a lot of class, exactly how you want
- 6:31Speaker 3: a franchise quarterback to handle a situation like that. Now,
- 6:35Speaker 3: I also think that whoever that employee was, it's probably
- 6:38Speaker 3: pretty easy to figure out what employee down there may
- 6:41Speaker 3: have said that to him as he's walking off the field.
- 6:43Speaker 2: It might not have a job working.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Inside the Dallas Cowboys stadium anymore, and I completely understand
- 6:48Speaker 3: that too.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Might be promoted. Might be a Jones family member for
- 6:51Speaker 2: all I know. Could be. Could be a nephew. Of
- 6:53Speaker 2: the Jones family that's just down there hanging out. Could be.
- 6:56Speaker 1: By the way, that's to a quarterback who's won 85
- 6:59Speaker 1: career games for the Cowboys. He's 85-58-1 now.
- 7:03Speaker 2: After last night.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Now, the postseason record is what it is, but it's
- 7:07Speaker 1: not like it's three wins and 18 losses yet.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Well, wins equals progress equals improvement.
- 7:15Speaker 4: Yes.
- 7:16Speaker 3: So let's talk about another team in the state of Texas,
- 7:17Speaker 3: the Houston Texans. that are coming to Nashville this weekend
- 7:21Speaker 3: to take on the Tennessee Titans, two 0-4 teams.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Hutton, we have heard so much about.
- 7:27Speaker 3: It's obvious if you have two eyes that you can
- 7:29Speaker 3: see the improvement of this team. It's obvious that you
- 7:32Speaker 3: can see the progress in Cam Ward. It's obvious that
- 7:34Speaker 3: you can see from week one throughout the season the
- 7:37Speaker 3: team has gotten better. That is a very convenient argument
- 7:41Speaker 3: when you lay a complete egg against a bad New
- 7:43Speaker 3: York Jets team in week one. When you set the
- 7:46Speaker 3: floor so low, we joked after week one, this is
- 7:49Speaker 3: the floor, and we said they're building a basement.
- 7:53Speaker 2: It was so low.
- 7:54Speaker 3: It was below the floor of the house, the way
- 7:56Speaker 3: they played against the New York Jets. It's very convenient
- 7:58Speaker 3: to me to then say, boy, look at the improvement.
- 8:01Speaker 3: We battled the Philadelphia Eagles the next week, and we
- 8:05Speaker 3: are a dumb mistake by the quarterback away from winning
- 8:08Speaker 3: the game against the Giants the next week. And then, boy,
- 8:11Speaker 3: look at that comeback against the Ravens when they put
- 8:14Speaker 3: their backup quarterback in and didn't score a point the
- 8:16Speaker 3: entire second half. I think it's a very convenient argument
- 8:19Speaker 3: when you set the floor so low the way the
- 8:22Speaker 3: Tennessee Titans did in that first game. And then, Hutton,
- 8:25Speaker 3: speaking of state-run media, Titans Radio and Taylor Zarzer and
- 8:29Speaker 3: that whole crew, they have set the bar. The Titans
- 8:31Speaker 3: set the floor low in week one. They set the
- 8:34Speaker 3: bar high for fluff, state-run media. Soviet-level media propaganda. And
- 8:42Speaker 3: during whatever this show is that Robert Sala does every
- 8:45Speaker 3: week with Taylor Zarzer, I don't know because I would
- 8:48Speaker 3: never watch this thing, but I have seen this clip circulating.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Robert Sala had a lot of great things to say
- 8:55Speaker 3: about the 0-4 Houston Texans.
- 8:58Speaker 4: Houston Texans coming to town, their 0-4 to start the season.
- 9:01Speaker 2: What do you think about this matchup?
- 9:04Speaker 5: Might be the greatest 0-4 team in the history of football.
- 9:08Speaker 2: There you go.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Congratulations, Houston Texans. A title no one has ever asked
- 9:13Speaker 3: for or wanted, but you have received it. You are
- 9:15Speaker 3: the greatest 0-4 team in NFL history.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Hey, I've done a couple of radio hits this week,
- 9:24Speaker 1: and most recently our guy Dan Matthews down in Houston.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Yep.
- 9:30Speaker 1: And he was asking me about this matchup, and I said, Dan, look,
- 9:33Speaker 1: my perception here, and I mentioned, like, you may be
- 9:37Speaker 1: leaning a different way on the show than I am
- 9:41Speaker 1: on this game. But I said, the Texans are coming
- 9:44Speaker 1: into this game looking to get right. This is their
- 9:46Speaker 1: get right game. And I referenced a couple of other
- 9:48Speaker 1: eras of the Titans recently. You had the Ken Wisenhunt era, right?
- 9:53Speaker 1: Where it was so down, you were coming in to
- 9:57Speaker 1: get right if you're the road team. And I referenced
- 10:01Speaker 1: the Mike Vrabel era where there were some bad teams
- 10:04Speaker 1: and the Titans were in some bad situations, but the
- 10:06Speaker 1: coach outcoached the opponent and got the win. You know,
- 10:09Speaker 1: how many times do we see that with the Titans
- 10:11Speaker 1: in Buffalo with Vrabel? Even that Tuesday night game during COVID.
- 10:14Speaker 1: No business winning that game with everybody out due to
- 10:18Speaker 1: COVID violations. And they won that game, Chad, on a
- 10:21Speaker 1: Tuesday night, randomly. I don't see that in this group here.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Houston comes to mind, too, because it was week two,
- 10:30Speaker 1: one of these years. It was the game after the
- 10:32Speaker 1: longest game in history. It was Vrabel's second game. And
- 10:35Speaker 1: I tie this into Houston because that's where he came from.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Vrabel's second game, his second game as head coach of
- 10:39Speaker 1: the Titans. And they had Dane Cruikshank throw a touchdown
- 10:43Speaker 1: pass in this game, in special teams. And I'm thinking
- 10:49Speaker 1: to myself, I don't see that with this game. The
- 10:53Speaker 1: Texans come in as the greatest 0-4 team in history, tongue-in-cheek.
- 10:58Speaker 1: They believe they should be. I mean, they started the
- 11:00Speaker 1: last two seasons 0-3. They believe they should be a
- 11:03Speaker 1: 2-2 team, a team that should be at the top
- 11:06Speaker 1: of the AFC South right now. They should be trying
- 11:10Speaker 1: to go to the deepest run in the playoffs that
- 11:11Speaker 1: they have in their team history. This is where they
- 11:14Speaker 1: get right and get things back on track. This is
- 11:15Speaker 1: where D'Amico Ryans takes over as play caller. This is
- 11:18Speaker 1: where they become the team that they talked about being
- 11:20Speaker 1: in the preseason. Not the team they're talking about being
- 11:23Speaker 1: in December. And I don't know if you have the
- 11:26Speaker 1: same sentiment or not. I just don't get that vibe
- 11:28Speaker 1: for the Titans. This is not a get-right game for
- 11:30Speaker 1: the Titans the way I think it is for the Texans.
- 11:34Speaker 2: With the backs against the.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Wall, you can put the playoff hopes to bed immediately
- 11:38Speaker 1: if you lose this game for either team. But I
- 11:41Speaker 1: think we already know the playoff hopes for the Tennessee Titans.
- 11:43Speaker 1: I think the expectation is that the Texans have a
- 11:45Speaker 1: chance to still kick this into gear. The Titans are
- 11:48Speaker 1: dead to rights. That's the mentality coming into this game.
- 11:50Speaker 1: They can prove me wrong. But one game does not
- 11:53Speaker 1: make up for the 0-4 start and all of this
- 11:55Speaker 1: talk about wait until you see where we are at
- 11:57Speaker 1: the end of the season.
- 11:57Speaker 2: How about win some.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Games right now with a revamped roster and money spent
- 12:02Speaker 1: and start to click, especially on all things except for
- 12:04Speaker 1: the quarterback. Let's talk about defensive line, pass rush, all that.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Defense as well. There are other areas to this team
- 12:12Speaker 1: that have not met the bar, just like the quarterback hasn't.
- 12:16Speaker 3: You've got, during this week of this game, and I
- 12:19Speaker 3: think what you said is very well laid out on everything.
- 12:22Speaker 3: During the week of this game, you had Burke Nihill
- 12:26Speaker 3: fire three high-ranking front office members in early October.
- 12:31Speaker 2: And a coach that's preaching patience. A coach that's.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Preaching patience in an organization that is selling you over
- 12:38Speaker 3: and over on a rebrand in a new uniform scheme
- 12:41Speaker 3: in a new stadium. And they fire the person that's
- 12:43Speaker 3: in charge of the rebrand, which some would argue is
- 12:46Speaker 3: the one successful thing that they've done in the last
- 12:49Speaker 3: four years based on the putrid performance on the field.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Of that organization.
- 12:54Speaker 3: But they fire her. Let's fire Erin Swartz and get
- 12:56Speaker 3: her out of here who's in charge of the rebrand.
- 12:59Speaker 3: So that's one thing that happened this week. Another thing
- 13:02Speaker 3: that happened is the person that fired the people that
- 13:05Speaker 3: is the face and the voice of ownership is refusing
- 13:09Speaker 3: to do an interview. and refusing to talk about it
- 13:12Speaker 3: and refusing to hold a press conference.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Right.
- 13:14Speaker 3: So you've literally got sort of this Darth Vader slash
- 13:18Speaker 3: Wizard of Oz figure in the Titans front office that's
- 13:22Speaker 3: firing people and never taking accountability while the team during
- 13:27Speaker 3: his tenure, and I'm talking about Burke Nihill, has been.
- 13:30Speaker 2: A disaster on the field.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Hurricane Isaias, I'm butchering it again, level disaster on the field.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Okay. You've got all that going on.
- 13:41Speaker 3: You've got a coach who's sitting there telling Taylor Czars
- 13:44Speaker 3: they're already making excuses. Best 0-4 team in NFL history.
- 13:48Speaker 3: That's who we're going to see on Sunday. So fans
- 13:50Speaker 3: can't get mad about what happens here because we're facing
- 13:52Speaker 3: the best 0-4 team in NFL history, which based on
- 13:56Speaker 3: preseason expectations, no one expected the Texans to be here.
- 13:58Speaker 1: No.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Plenty of people probably thought, oh, there's a route for
- 14:01Speaker 3: the Titans to be 0-4, even though they got a.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Couple of very winnable games.
- 14:07Speaker 3: Hutton, we said before week one, If there's ever a
- 14:10Speaker 3: must-win game in the first game of a new head
- 14:12Speaker 3: coach in week one, it's the Titans versus the Jets.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Robert Sala against the supposedly terrible organization that fired him.
- 14:22Speaker 3: The only reason he was unsuccessful there is because ownership
- 14:25Speaker 3: medals and they're not competent.
- 14:27Speaker 2: And it's just the Jets. It's J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets.
- 14:31Speaker 2: which means losing, and no coach is going to succeed there.
- 14:34Speaker 2: And now he's going to come into Nashville.
- 14:36Speaker 3: He's going to prove it with a rising star quarterback
- 14:39Speaker 3: in his second year, and it was a big old flop.
- 14:41Speaker 3: That's the sound that you heard in week one where
- 14:43Speaker 3: the Titans get really blown out.
- 14:46Speaker 2: In NFL terms, they got blown out. Not in control
- 14:48Speaker 2: of that game whatsoever.
- 14:49Speaker 3: They looked inept against the Jets. Set the floor very low.
- 14:53Speaker 3: Have shown some improvements in final scores since then. But
- 14:58Speaker 3: they lost to a bad Giants team with a backup quarterback.
- 15:01Speaker 3: They lost to a Ravens team who played their backup
- 15:03Speaker 3: quarterback the entire second half after they completely fell out
- 15:06Speaker 3: of the game in the first half. This is not
- 15:08Speaker 3: a good football team. Yet now we're getting more excuse-making beforehand.
- 15:12Speaker 3: And call that what you want, coach talk, whatever. It
- 15:15Speaker 3: is laying a baseline level of excuse-making for if the
- 15:19Speaker 3: Titans lose this game. I'm going to go ahead and
- 15:21Speaker 3: put expectations very clearly on this team. This is a
- 15:24Speaker 3: must-win game. If you're going to show improvement, you don't
- 15:27Speaker 3: fall to 0-5. You've got a home game against a
- 15:30Speaker 3: team that's reeling, that has taken away play-calling responsibility from
- 15:34Speaker 3: their defensive play caller.
- 15:35Speaker 2: And the head coach is now doing it. This is
- 15:38Speaker 2: at home against another winless team. If you don't win
- 15:41Speaker 2: this game, when are you going to win? Is it Cleveland?
- 15:45Speaker 2: In a couple of weeks, who's 3-1 right now?
- 15:48Speaker 3: Are you looking at Washington and thinking, okay, going to
- 15:51Speaker 3: get a backup quarterback there, but you're getting the return
- 15:53Speaker 3: of Marcus Mariota? In all likelihood, in that game, coming
- 15:57Speaker 3: back to Nashville, is that the game you're going to get?
- 15:59Speaker 3: I'm looking up and down this schedule, and I know
- 16:02Speaker 3: that crazy things happen. Because we saw the Titans win
- 16:05Speaker 3: a game when DeMarcato fumbled the ball and threw it
- 16:07Speaker 3: into the end zone with a chance to win the game.
- 16:10Speaker 3: So they've won games like that before, too. There's going
- 16:13Speaker 3: to be a win somewhere on this schedule. But I can't,
- 16:16Speaker 3: with my two eyes, the Titans keep telling all the
- 16:18Speaker 3: fans to use to see all the progress that's happening
- 16:21Speaker 3: on the field. I can't, with my two eyes, look
- 16:24Speaker 3: at this schedule and tell you how the Titans are
- 16:26Speaker 3: going to win if they don't win on Sunday. I
- 16:29Speaker 3: know they're a touchdown underdog in this game, Hutton. This
- 16:32Speaker 3: is a must-win game for the Tennessee Titans. If they're
- 16:36Speaker 3: going to show the progress that they want to show,
- 16:38Speaker 3: they've got to win a football game.
- 16:39Speaker 2: This is the NFL. This is not a team. This
- 16:42Speaker 2: is not a coach taking.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Over a college program that's under NCAA sanctions that knew
- 16:47Speaker 3: going in they're going to get killed in every game
- 16:49Speaker 3: in year one before they can recruit their players. You
- 16:52Speaker 3: have a fully functioning roster. You have a general manager
- 16:55Speaker 3: who's brought these players in. You need to go win
- 16:57Speaker 3: an NFL game. And this weekend is a great opportunity
- 17:00Speaker 3: to do that.
- 17:01Speaker 1: And I've yet to see a Titans team that is
- 17:05Speaker 1: more about this week than this season. That's the messaging
- 17:10Speaker 1: that flipped, Chad, in the preseason that we pointed out.
- 17:13Speaker 1: It went from all gas, no brakes, which to me
- 17:15Speaker 1: is week to week, all gas, no brakes, every single play.
- 17:18Speaker 1: And it has flipped to we're getting better every week.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Why did that happen? Well, I think the writing was
- 17:23Speaker 1: on the wall. They realized what a climb this is
- 17:26Speaker 1: going to be. where they were roster-wise, where they were
- 17:29Speaker 1: versus who they're matched up with, and their quarterback situation,
- 17:32Speaker 1: and how they're treating this like a rookie season for
- 17:33Speaker 1: Cam Ward. Beyond all that, the staples that were lined
- 17:37Speaker 1: up to lead this team early on have not been there.
- 17:41Speaker 1: So it's the defensive line. And this is one area
- 17:45Speaker 1: where you can't go back and say, oh, it's the
- 17:47Speaker 1: John Robinson, Rand Carthon picks.
- 17:50Speaker 5: No, no, no, no, no.
- 17:51Speaker 1: They have an extended Jeffrey Simmons, who Jeffrey Simmons, by
- 17:54Speaker 1: the way, has been playing very well. He's being double teamed.
- 17:57Speaker 1: And you have a second round pick on the defensive line.
- 17:59Speaker 1: You have a first round pick from this year on
- 18:01Speaker 1: the defensive line. You have two other guys that you
- 18:04Speaker 1: brought in from free agency this year. No production there.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Not much production there. And that's the group that they've
- 18:10Speaker 1: spent $ 98 million of new money on. That's the most
- 18:13Speaker 1: expensive group. Second most expensive defensive front in football. They've
- 18:17Speaker 1: got to do their gig. They've got to do their job.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Number two, must win of all the games that you
- 18:23Speaker 1: can circle. This is also as easy as It's against
- 18:26Speaker 1: an opponent that you know has ties to the organization
- 18:30Speaker 1: and the ownership knows... I mean, if you know the Titans,
- 18:33Speaker 1: you know this is the game you've got to win
- 18:35Speaker 1: against the Texans. Now, the game in Houston I would
- 18:37Speaker 1: circle as a bigger game.
- 18:39Speaker 2: But this game?
- 18:40Speaker 1: This game lines up to get your season back on track.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Are the Titans capable of doing what the Tampa Bay
- 18:45Speaker 1: Bucks just did in Dallas? I would argue no. I
- 18:49Speaker 1: would argue no. Winning in a resounding way to say
- 18:52Speaker 1: that team actually has the ingredients... of the expectations that
- 18:57Speaker 1: we had on them prior to the season versus right now.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Where were the.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Expectations of this Titans team, Chad, a month ago? Let's
- 19:05Speaker 1: go back a month and a half, two months ago.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Just that short amount of time. People in this market
- 19:09Speaker 1: are talking about six wins. I've heard people say ten wins.
- 19:12Speaker 1: And now all of a sudden, it's week-to-week improvement, season-to-season evaluation.
- 19:19Speaker 1: That's just not how this works. And I'm sorry if
- 19:22Speaker 1: it's week-to-week improvement about how you play games. There have
- 19:24Speaker 1: been 18 games this season to feature a game-winning score
- 19:27Speaker 1: in the final three minutes of regulation.
- 19:29Speaker 2: That's the NFL. That's the NFL. Every single game you.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Could go back and say, well, if we don't miss
- 19:35Speaker 1: this field goal, if we don't turn this football over,
- 19:37Speaker 1: if we don't have this turnover on downs, every single
- 19:40Speaker 1: team can point to that. This is about execution and
- 19:43Speaker 1: about your playmakers stepping up and meeting the bar. And
- 19:47Speaker 1: I just don't see that on a week-to-week basis, including
- 19:49Speaker 1: from the coaching staff.
- 19:51Speaker 3: And if we're going to carry that Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- 19:53Speaker 3: comparison even further to a team that could show a
- 19:57Speaker 3: pulse even after going to 0-4, I certainly believe more
- 20:01Speaker 3: in the Houston Texans organization and D'Amico Ryans to show
- 20:04Speaker 3: a pulse after going 0-4 than what I've seen from
- 20:06Speaker 3: the Titans so far. I would also say they did
- 20:09Speaker 3: it with a backup quarterback. I think in Nashville your
- 20:12Speaker 3: backup quarterback probably gives you a better shot in this game.
- 20:15Speaker 3: So that's the difference. I don't think Jalen Daniels is
- 20:18Speaker 3: better than Baker Mayfield. I'm not so sure right now
- 20:21Speaker 3: about Mitchell Trubisky and Cam Ward, especially given his knowledge
- 20:25Speaker 3: of this Brian Day ball offense in terms of what
- 20:27Speaker 3: gives your team a better shot to win NFL games.
- 20:30Speaker 2: I'm not saying to.
- 20:31Speaker 3: Do that at this point because I can understand the
- 20:35Speaker 3: thought process of let's see more of Cam Ward. before
- 20:38Speaker 3: making a final call on him. But if we're just
- 20:41Speaker 3: talking about we're going to try to do something to
- 20:44Speaker 3: win a game, similar to what Josh Heupel did against Auburn.
- 20:46Speaker 3: He wasn't thinking about Faison Brandon's feelings. He wasn't thinking
- 20:49Speaker 3: about ramifications next year or later this season.
- 20:52Speaker 2: He was thinking about what can I do to win
- 20:54Speaker 2: this football game? This is a big game.
- 20:55Speaker 3: It's an SEC game at home. We need to win,
- 20:58Speaker 3: and we are sputtering offensively. So what can I do
- 21:01Speaker 3: to help win the football game? Put a new quarterback in.
- 21:04Speaker 3: And the new quarterback got the job done, and they
- 21:06Speaker 3: won the game. If Robert Sala was thinking the same
- 21:08Speaker 3: way in a game, I think if you see Cam
- 21:12Speaker 3: Ward making those consistent Cam Ward mistakes that we've seen throughout,
- 21:16Speaker 3: whether it be just flippant play on the field, careless
- 21:22Speaker 3: plays with the football, being loose with it, those type
- 21:25Speaker 3: of things, when you see that, if you go to
- 21:27Speaker 3: the backup quarterback, that would be that type of decision.
- 21:29Speaker 2: I don't think this is a coaching.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Staff right now that has the power to do something
- 21:35Speaker 3: like that, or that would do it based on what
- 21:37Speaker 3: I've seen from these guys.
- 21:39Speaker 1: And let's just say this too. It's also about, look
- 21:43Speaker 1: with what the Raiders are doing. Look at what the
- 21:45Speaker 1: Giants are doing. Coming out and showing a pulse. Maybe
- 21:49Speaker 1: they make the playoffs, maybe they don't, but it's about improvement.
- 21:51Speaker 1: That's showing improvement. You know, like that, that's the improvement
- 21:56Speaker 1: that you can point to the tangible improvement of this league.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Um, Wins count, losses count.
- 22:01Speaker 1: And by the way, we have played the cuts from Brable,
- 22:05Speaker 1: from Sala, when he said this earlier in the preseason,
- 22:08Speaker 1: August 17th on Rich Eisen, when he said, ultimately, all
- 22:12Speaker 1: that other shit doesn't matter.
- 22:13Speaker 2: That was his quote. Just talk.
- 22:15Speaker 1: It's about wins and losses, and that's how you're defined.
- 22:17Speaker 1: That's how we'll define this team. I'm not going to
- 22:20Speaker 1: define it in December. I'm going to week-to-week basis, all gaps,
- 22:22Speaker 1: no breaks, record and loss. You know, wins and losses.
- 22:26Speaker 1: You've got 0-4 straight ahead. 0-4 is the record that
- 22:30Speaker 1: the Jets should have right now. And it's the record
- 22:33Speaker 1: that the Titans would have.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Hit us up in the YouTube chat also where Wes
- 22:36Speaker 3: Patrick says, Cam Ward also said the line about Texans
- 22:39Speaker 3: the best 0-14 in history looking at them. So you
- 22:43Speaker 3: know that's circulating around the building and the messaging from
- 22:46Speaker 3: the coaches.
- 22:46Speaker 2: We know who's not.
- 22:48Speaker 3: Yeah, they're not talking about themselves being the best 0-14. No, look,
- 22:54Speaker 3: I think it's the start of excuse making.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Within the team and what we're going to hear from.
- 23:00Speaker 3: And also, by the way, we're only going to hear
- 23:02Speaker 3: from Cam Ward and Robert Sala after the game.
- 23:05Speaker 2: No one else is going to speak.
- 23:06Speaker 3: So those two guys, they are the messengers of the organization.
- 23:09Speaker 3: The guy who's the president of the team can't even
- 23:11Speaker 3: speak when he lays off three people. So we're only
- 23:14Speaker 3: going to hear from those two. They're going to be
- 23:16Speaker 3: left to talk about everything bad that happens on Sunday.
- 23:19Speaker 1: We only hear from the front office when it's about entertainment,
- 23:22Speaker 1: Titans entertainment and Titans in their new stadium.
- 23:25Speaker 2: That's when you put a hard hat on and you
- 23:26Speaker 2: get your one-on-one.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Chad, coming up, the SEC considering a new way to
- 23:35Speaker 1: look at the transfer rule. We dive into that. We've
- 23:38Speaker 1: got a lot to get to today. Enos Cantor sitting
- 23:40Speaker 1: down with Clay Travis. Chad's got his top 10 college

- 24:57Speaker 1: Chad, do you like the chatter of transfer rules and
- 25:01Speaker 1: all this stuff in the middle of the season? Or
- 25:03Speaker 1: would you rather hear about it in the offseason when
- 25:05Speaker 1: we're all asking about it?
- 25:07Speaker 3: I think if you were going to position yourself like
- 25:09Speaker 3: the SEC is, the NFL of college football, and you
- 25:13Speaker 3: were going to be the standard bearer and you're going
- 25:14Speaker 3: to start trends and do all those things that the
- 25:17Speaker 3: standard bearer would do, I think this rule makes a
- 25:20Speaker 3: lot of sense, and it did for years. The rule
- 25:22Speaker 3: is that if you transfer from one SEC program to another,
- 25:25Speaker 3: you've got to sit out a year.
- 25:27Speaker 2: But you can.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Transfer anywhere else you want to out of the league
- 25:30Speaker 3: if you were currently at an SEC school. This sounds great.
- 25:33Speaker 3: I love the regulation involved in that. I love the
- 25:35Speaker 3: structure of it. It feels more contractual when you do
- 25:39Speaker 3: it that way where you can't just get mad or
- 25:42Speaker 3: you're not playing or you're playing a lot and you
- 25:44Speaker 3: want to go get more money. And so I'm going
- 25:46Speaker 3: to go over to the rival. I'm going to go
- 25:47Speaker 3: from Alabama to Auburn. I'm going to go from Tennessee
- 25:50Speaker 3: to Florida, from Ole Miss to Mississippi State. Correct, from
- 25:54Speaker 3: Ole Miss to LSU or vice versa. It prevents players
- 25:57Speaker 3: from doing that to create this kind of unfair system
- 26:02Speaker 3: really a lack of checks and balances when all the
- 26:04Speaker 3: power is with the player to say, screw you, I'm
- 26:07Speaker 3: going to go to the rival and I'm not going
- 26:08Speaker 3: to sit at all. And by the way, I'm going
- 26:10Speaker 3: to make more money to go beat you on the
- 26:12Speaker 3: other side. That's not what you want for a fully
- 26:15Speaker 3: functioning and fair system of play at any level. You
- 26:19Speaker 3: don't want to have that ability. But the problem with
- 26:22Speaker 3: this is, and a few anonymous SEC coaches brought this up,
- 26:26Speaker 3: that this story is now out that the SEC is
- 26:27Speaker 3: going to try to circulate this and get this rule
- 26:30Speaker 3: back into effect. with some more guidance and regulation in
- 26:33Speaker 3: college football, is that if you do this for the SEC,
- 26:37Speaker 3: you put yourself at almost a disadvantage to the other conferences.
- 26:43Speaker 3: Meaning that if you want to be able to go
- 26:46Speaker 3: anywhere in America and not sit out, given the current
- 26:49Speaker 3: transfer rules, and if this Protect College Sports Act passes,
- 26:53Speaker 3: where you get one-time transfer wherever you want to go,
- 26:56Speaker 3: then you may not want to go to an SEC school.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Because then it would prevent you from going to another
- 27:00Speaker 3: SEC school at some point. Whereas if you go to
- 27:02Speaker 3: the Big Ten, you can go to any Big Ten
- 27:04Speaker 3: school you want. If you go to the Big 12,
- 27:05Speaker 3: you can go to any Big 12 school you want
- 27:07Speaker 3: because there's no rule in place in those conferences. Here's
- 27:10Speaker 3: what I'd like to see, Hutton. Every league does this.
- 27:14Speaker 3: I don't know if it's a part of the Protect
- 27:16Speaker 3: College Sports bill, but I would like to see every
- 27:19Speaker 3: league have the same rule. where you can't transfer from
- 27:22Speaker 3: one conference school to another without sitting out for a year.
- 27:26Speaker 3: Then you would have players that would have to go
- 27:28Speaker 3: out of the conference if they decided to transfer. And yes,
- 27:32Speaker 3: it does limit their options, but if you're a great player,
- 27:35Speaker 3: and when we're talking about players that make a ton
- 27:37Speaker 3: of money, we're talking about the great players, the really
- 27:39Speaker 3: good talents that have proven it usually that then have
- 27:41Speaker 3: a chance later in their career to go somewhere else.
- 27:43Speaker 3: If you're a great player, it's not going to hinder
- 27:45Speaker 3: your ability to make money. Because if you're a star
- 27:47Speaker 3: at Georgia and you want to go bank on somebody
- 27:50Speaker 3: else's dime, you can go to Ohio State.
- 27:53Speaker 2: No problem. No penalty. One time. You can go to Michigan.
- 27:57Speaker 3: You can transfer to a school at a conference. You
- 27:59Speaker 3: just can't go within the conference.
- 28:01Speaker 1: So a couple of thoughts here. Let's start with the coaches,
- 28:04Speaker 1: the anonymity aspect of this. I don't know why coaches
- 28:07Speaker 1: don't put their name behind certain things. I understand why
- 28:10Speaker 1: you stay silent on certain topics when it comes to
- 28:13Speaker 1: this that directly affects your program. And with the money
- 28:16Speaker 1: that these coaches are making, with the clout that they
- 28:18Speaker 1: carry on campus, in many cases, they're the highest paid
- 28:20Speaker 1: public employee in the state. I don't know why they
- 28:24Speaker 1: don't put their name behind it. and it carries more
- 28:26Speaker 1: weight with me if they do that. The whole idea, though,
- 28:30Speaker 1: that it puts the SEC at a disadvantage is laughable
- 28:33Speaker 1: to me because the SEC is at an advantage any
- 28:35Speaker 1: time they want to tamper with any other program in
- 28:37Speaker 1: the country because the SEC comes knocking and it puts
- 28:40Speaker 1: the other team, the other program, the other conference at
- 28:42Speaker 1: a disadvantage.
- 28:42Speaker 2: That's number one. They're doing that.
- 28:45Speaker 1: They have a huge advantage by coaching in the Southeastern Conference.
- 28:47Speaker 1: Number two, if the other players who are currently in
- 28:51Speaker 1: the SEC– are getting the, the, the, the doors being,
- 28:55Speaker 1: you could hear the knock at the door and it's
- 28:56Speaker 1: another program from the big 10 or let's say just
- 28:59Speaker 1: from the ACC or from the big 12. Do you
- 29:01Speaker 1: really think they want to leave the SEC to go
- 29:03Speaker 1: to those conferences right now?
- 29:05Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Not with the NIL issues that are going on right now,
- 29:08Speaker 1: they can make more backing up at certain SEC programs
- 29:10Speaker 1: than they can starting at other programs across the country.
- 29:13Speaker 1: So that disadvantage to me is not really real. Uh,
- 29:17Speaker 1: maybe in a couple instances, but not across the board.
- 29:20Speaker 1: And I would say, uh, The tampering, I think all
- 29:26Speaker 1: this does, Chad, specifically for the SEC, is keep tampering
- 29:29Speaker 1: from happening within the conference. You're still going to have
- 29:32Speaker 1: everyone calling upon the agents and the families and the
- 29:36Speaker 1: players of the players that you have on your roster.
- 29:39Speaker 2: But it's going to keep.
- 29:40Speaker 1: issues from happening where LSU and Ole Miss happen in
- 29:44Speaker 1: the middle of the.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Season right before they go to the college football playoff.
- 29:47Speaker 1: It's going to keep Tennessee and Alabama from talking back
- 29:52Speaker 1: and forth to rosters. That's good for the conference, even though, yes,
- 29:56Speaker 1: it's happening outside the conference. That's going to continue. And
- 29:59Speaker 1: the SEC teams are doing the same thing outside the
- 30:02Speaker 1: conference at the same time, but they're doing it from within.
- 30:05Speaker 1: And I think that the structure of the SEC and
- 30:08Speaker 1: what makes it so strong is from top to bottom,
- 30:11Speaker 1: you very rarely see any vitriol or bickering or really
- 30:16Speaker 1: infighting that goes on where it eats itself. We saw
- 30:20Speaker 1: it some with LSU last year and how things happened
- 30:23Speaker 1: with Ole Miss.
- 30:24Speaker 2: We saw it.
- 30:25Speaker 1: With the way that things were handled with the NFL
- 30:27Speaker 1: players that were in camp and how things were handled
- 30:29Speaker 1: legally and then within the SEC and within Sankey and
- 30:33Speaker 1: the bylaws and the presidents from the other universities with
- 30:36Speaker 1: LSU this preseason. But Chad, very rarely do we see
- 30:40Speaker 1: this bubble to the surface to where you have program
- 30:43Speaker 1: versus program publicly fighting and you're battling against one another
- 30:48Speaker 1: rather than battling against other conferences. And I think it
- 30:51Speaker 1: actually behooves the other conferences not to make this rule
- 30:54Speaker 1: because it makes your conference better if you're getting SEC
- 30:56Speaker 1: talent coming in, and you can immediately improve and bolster
- 30:59Speaker 1: your roster for the college football playoff. I don't think
- 31:02Speaker 1: this hurts the SEC as much as it would hurt
- 31:04Speaker 1: or help the other conferences. I agree there. But I
- 31:09Speaker 1: view this as just an internal effort to keep the tampering–
- 31:16Speaker 1: activity down where you don't have Jeff Levy calling or,
- 31:20Speaker 1: you know, I'm using him, but it would be his
- 31:23Speaker 1: staff calling members of the Tennessee roster. And then you
- 31:27Speaker 1: really have some issues going on with the, with the,
- 31:29Speaker 1: with the complaints within SEC versus SEC bylaws.
- 31:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it definitely would help, would aid other
- 31:37Speaker 3: conferences because now suddenly they don't have the option if
- 31:41Speaker 3: they're unhappy somewhere to transfer within the conference and, And
- 31:44Speaker 3: whatever your NIL budget is or whatever school you have,
- 31:47Speaker 3: then you could lure good players from the Southeastern Conference
- 31:50Speaker 3: to your league that wants to play more or wants
- 31:53Speaker 3: some money or whatever it is. So I think you
- 31:55Speaker 3: are inadvertently helping other conferences if you pass this rule
- 31:59Speaker 3: for the SEC.
- 32:01Speaker 2: I think that the.
- 32:02Speaker 3: Whole we're together type thing is an important one because
- 32:06Speaker 3: you're right. It's Clemson and Dabo Sweeney that goes after
- 32:09Speaker 3: Ole Miss. It's not Mississippi State that goes after Ole
- 32:13Speaker 3: Miss for tampering. even though I'm sure Ole Miss at
- 32:15Speaker 3: some point is probably tampered with someone at Mississippi State
- 32:18Speaker 3: or somewhere else in the conference. when someone at Tennessee
- 32:21Speaker 3: gets pissed off about not having a night kickoff against Alabama,
- 32:25Speaker 3: they get with Clay Travis and tell him about it.
- 32:28Speaker 3: Clay can relay that info. But then when contacted for comment,
- 32:32Speaker 3: Tennessee has no comment.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Right.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Why?
- 32:34Speaker 3: Because you don't speak out against the Godfather. And the
- 32:36Speaker 3: Godfather is the league itself, which is smart. It's why
- 32:39Speaker 3: the SEC has been very successful.
- 32:41Speaker 2: No doubt.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Is when they pass something, it's typically unanimous. They all
- 32:45Speaker 3: get on the same page before they vote something in.
- 32:48Speaker 3: And every school president is on board at that point,
- 32:50Speaker 3: even if it doesn't benefit one of the schools, right?
- 32:54Speaker 3: When they added Texas, Texas A & M, who did
- 32:56Speaker 3: not want Texas in the league, had to officially get
- 32:59Speaker 3: on board because you don't go against the family.
- 33:02Speaker 2: You don't go against the godfather.
- 33:03Speaker 3: And if we're going to treat the SEC like a
- 33:06Speaker 3: mafia family, like in many ways it kind of is
- 33:08Speaker 3: and has been for years with bags of cash and
- 33:11Speaker 3: everything under the table, now it's above the table and.
- 33:13Speaker 2: We can see everything.
- 33:15Speaker 3: You don't go against the family because And that, to me,
- 33:17Speaker 3: is the root and the basis of this rule. You
- 33:20Speaker 3: don't go against the family. You can't go and raid
- 33:23Speaker 3: another family member's closet and pantry to bring in talent
- 33:27Speaker 3: to your team. If you want to go raid Minnesota's
- 33:30Speaker 3: three best players, have at it. If you want to
- 33:33Speaker 3: go get Michigan State's guys, go and get them. If
- 33:36Speaker 3: you want to go to Arizona State and bring in
- 33:38Speaker 3: their top player the way Texas did with the running
- 33:41Speaker 3: back or the way LSU did with the quarterback and
- 33:43Speaker 3: Sam Leavitt, have at it. We're just not going to
- 33:46Speaker 3: eat our own Because increasingly it is a league, and
- 33:49Speaker 3: we're seeing it this year, they will eat their own.
- 33:52Speaker 3: And they're going to hurt their chances at multiple college
- 33:54Speaker 3: football playoff spots because it is becoming a little bit
- 33:57Speaker 3: more like the NFL. We're going to get into some
- 33:59Speaker 3: SEC picks later. We currently have this SEC media darling
- 34:05Speaker 3: syndrome happening in the league. Where one week you're the
- 34:08Speaker 3: best thing since sliced bread, the next week you're getting
- 34:10Speaker 3: your doors kicked in by somebody on the road. We've
- 34:13Speaker 3: seen it now multiple weeks in a row. I've got
- 34:16Speaker 3: a team, by the way, I'm going to pick that's
- 34:17Speaker 3: the next one that's about to get their doors blown
- 34:19Speaker 3: out at home after being talked about all week about
- 34:21Speaker 3: how great they are. So they want to avoid that,
- 34:25Speaker 3: and I understand the thinking behind it, Hutton, but I
- 34:27Speaker 3: think everything you bring up is the reason not to
- 34:30Speaker 3: do it and also the reason that the SEC probably
- 34:33Speaker 3: shouldn't complain. about some of this stuff, the way it functions.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Well, see, the SEC's not trying to stop Sam Levitt
- 34:41Speaker 1: from leaving Arizona State to come to LSU.
- 34:44Speaker 2: Not at all.
- 34:44Speaker 1: They just want– they don't want Trinidad Chambliss to go
- 34:48Speaker 1: from Ole Miss to LSU because that doesn't help the conference.
- 34:51Speaker 1: It only helps the university. The conference is bolstered by
- 34:55Speaker 1: having the better quarterbacks transfer in and immediately play.
- 34:58Speaker 2: But if you're.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Just circling and you're just adding more ingredients from your
- 35:02Speaker 1: own conference– Those were already there. And I realize most
- 35:06Speaker 1: of the instances may be backups, but last year we
- 35:11Speaker 1: did see starters leave and go to LSU. Now, the
- 35:14Speaker 1: question would be, are there any caveats to this? If
- 35:17Speaker 1: the coach leaves, can the players go? Those are always
- 35:20Speaker 1: going to be questions that are within the overall discussion
- 35:24Speaker 1: and the rule. But I would say I understand why
- 35:26Speaker 1: it's SEC only. The coaches that think it's going to
- 35:29Speaker 1: hurt the league, I don't think so because the better
- 35:33Speaker 1: players across the country are entering the league anyway. By
- 35:37Speaker 1: and large, I don't see a lot of intra-conference transferring
- 35:44Speaker 1: starter to starter. I see a lot of starters coming
- 35:46Speaker 1: in from other conferences that that then bolster the team
- 35:49Speaker 1: and take them to a new height.
- 35:51Speaker 2: We saw it with Vanderbilt. We're seeing it with Kentucky.
- 35:55Speaker 2: The list goes on and on.
- 35:57Speaker 1: I don't necessarily think it's just the soup that is
- 36:01Speaker 1: the SEC just regurgitating each other's players. That's not the case.
- 36:06Speaker 1: And I don't think a lot of SEC players are
- 36:07Speaker 1: going to take the bag and go to the Big
- 36:09Speaker 1: 12 because not everybody is Texas Tech. And half of
- 36:13Speaker 1: the NIL budget that might be at Oklahoma State is
- 36:19Speaker 1: not triple that at some of these programs in the SEC.
- 36:22Speaker 1: You can stay and wait your turn and get paid,
- 36:24Speaker 1: if not more, than you would to start. I know
- 36:26Speaker 1: it's about the NFL, but nowadays, Chad, players are choosing
- 36:29Speaker 1: to stay four years. They're not leaving after three.
- 36:32Speaker 3: Well, the most high profile of the guys, though, there
- 36:35Speaker 3: is a bit of an issue with that. There's not
- 36:37Speaker 3: a ton of But Cam Coleman from Auburn to Texas,
- 36:41Speaker 3: that's a problem for the league, for the conference.
- 36:43Speaker 2: They're not going to like that. Everything that went on
- 36:45Speaker 2: with LSU and Ole Miss.
- 36:47Speaker 3: And we could say special circumstance, you had a coach leave,
- 36:50Speaker 3: and those guys wanted to play for that coach, so
- 36:52Speaker 3: they left with him. A similar thing that's just different
- 36:55Speaker 3: conferences is some of Tennessee's best defensive players played at
- 36:58Speaker 3: Penn State for Jim Knowles. They just followed their coach
- 37:01Speaker 3: after James Franklin got fired. to Knoxville and their plug
- 37:04Speaker 3: and play guys who were having, I mean, Dijon Lane
- 37:07Speaker 3: was the national defensive player of the week this past week.
- 37:10Speaker 3: And he was a safety at Penn State who followed
- 37:13Speaker 3: his coach to Knoxville. So Tennessee benefits from that from
- 37:16Speaker 3: another conference. There are other high profile guys that have
- 37:20Speaker 3: gone SEC to SEC, which they want to avoid. Again,
- 37:23Speaker 3: to me, it's just all about, you don't go against
- 37:25Speaker 3: the family. We're going to keep things tight-knit. We negotiate
- 37:29Speaker 3: together with media rights. We're going to do things together
- 37:32Speaker 3: as a league. And if you want to go raid
- 37:33Speaker 3: anybody else's roster, you can do that, and we're going
- 37:36Speaker 3: to have the resources here in this league based on
- 37:39Speaker 3: what we're paying you with the media rights and everything
- 37:42Speaker 3: else and all the gate money you're making and the
- 37:44Speaker 3: bigger stadium.
- 37:44Speaker 2: And they play immediately.
- 37:45Speaker 3: All the different factors that contribute to the SEC being
- 37:48Speaker 3: the best conference in college football. We're going to continue
- 37:51Speaker 3: to have those advantages. Just don't attack the family.
- 37:55Speaker 2: Yeah, don't. Keep it outside the family. They're players. They're players.
- 37:58Speaker 2: If they decide to leave, which a lot of them
- 38:00Speaker 2: will every year from these programs, they've got to go
- 38:03Speaker 2: to the Big Ten or the Big 12 or the ACC.
- 38:05Speaker 2: They can't go there.
- 38:07Speaker 3: Again, I would love this if every conference had the
- 38:10Speaker 3: same rule that went that way and they all could
- 38:13Speaker 3: be more tight-knit. I think that helps the conference system
- 38:17Speaker 3: as a whole if you do that. But– I also
- 38:20Speaker 3: understand the anonymous SEC coach who says, if we do this,
- 38:25Speaker 3: it's giving other leagues somewhat of a little bit. It's
- 38:28Speaker 3: not going to make them better than the SEC. But
- 38:30Speaker 3: the thought is like, hey, you can come here and
- 38:32Speaker 3: then go wherever you want.
- 38:33Speaker 2: If it doesn't work out here, you can go from
- 38:35Speaker 2: Ohio State to Michigan. We don't care in this league.
- 38:37Speaker 2: Where it helps. Wherever you can get the most money,
- 38:39Speaker 2: you can go. If that coach takes a job outside
- 38:42Speaker 2: of the SEC.
- 38:43Speaker 1: They can bring players like Kiffin did to LSU if
- 38:46Speaker 1: a coach takes a job at Notre Dame or at
- 38:49Speaker 1: Ohio State or at Michigan.
- 38:51Speaker 2: That's where it helps, yes.
- 38:54Speaker 1: But that would be under the circumstance of that coach
- 38:56Speaker 1: bringing those players with them. It also keeps, again, the
- 39:00Speaker 1: illegal recruitment and the tampering down.
- 39:03Speaker 2: You're not going to stop at all.
- 39:05Speaker 1: If Kiffin's taking a job at LSU and he's bringing
- 39:07Speaker 1: players with him.
- 39:08Speaker 3: Let's take it a step further. Make it illegal to
- 39:11Speaker 3: take a job within the conference if you're a coach.
- 39:13Speaker 3: If you really want to not go against the family,
- 39:15Speaker 3: make it like the NFL. If you're going to hinder
- 39:18Speaker 3: players and their ability to leave from one conference school
- 39:21Speaker 3: to another, then guess what, Lane Kiffin?
- 39:23Speaker 2: You can't take the LSU job while you're under contract.
- 39:26Speaker 3: If you want to let your contract expire at Ole
- 39:28Speaker 3: Miss and go to another SEC job, job, you can
- 39:30Speaker 3: do that just like they do in the NFL. But
- 39:32Speaker 3: until then, you can only get paid by Texas Tech
- 39:35Speaker 3: if you want to leave.
- 39:36Speaker 2: Right.
- 39:37Speaker 3: Or by Michigan or whoever comes calling. You cannot go
- 39:40Speaker 3: conference school to conference school while under contract. I would
- 39:44Speaker 3: love to see more of that within the SEC or conferences.
- 39:49Speaker 3: There are many things, Derek Dooley has brought this up,
- 39:52Speaker 3: that the NFL does far better than college football. I
- 39:54Speaker 3: think college football has an advantage in certain areas, but.
- 39:58Speaker 2: Not most of them.
- 39:59Speaker 3: The NFL is more of a finely tuned machine where
- 40:02Speaker 3: everyone is pulling in the same direction and everybody's making
- 40:05Speaker 3: money because they're all together. And part of that is,
- 40:08Speaker 3: you know, Mike McDonald can't leave the Seattle Seahawks. and
- 40:13Speaker 3: hold them over the barrel and say, pay me more
- 40:16Speaker 3: money to stay because the Arizona Cardinals want to hire me.
- 40:20Speaker 2: You're right.
- 40:21Speaker 3: After this year, after I won the Super Bowl. And
- 40:23Speaker 3: I think that makes for a better league.
- 40:25Speaker 2: What a great point. I mean, this is about players.
- 40:27Speaker 1: Let's also think coaches. That's another great point to factor in.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Who would be the coach of the Nashville Balls? I'm
- 40:36Speaker 2: not sure.
- 40:37Speaker 1: But we know who's the starting center for this team.
- 40:41Speaker 2: Enos Cantor.
- 40:42Speaker 1: For Clay's expansion WNBA franchise. He just can't sit down
- 40:47Speaker 1: with his team owner. And we've got clips of that
- 40:49Speaker 1: straight ahead here on Hutton and Withrow. Hutton and Withrow,
- 40:52Speaker 1: we are presented by Hard Rock Bet. Coming up, we
- 40:54Speaker 1: have our Profit Like It's Hot props of the week.
- 40:56Speaker 1: Looking forward to that, Chad. I'm confident in mine. I'm
- 40:59Speaker 1: playing mine individually this week.
- 41:01Speaker 3: Learning.
- 41:02Speaker 2: I'm learning.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Instead of going with the pool parlay, time to make
- 41:06Speaker 1: it rain this weekend, shall we?
- 41:07Speaker 2: Let's do it.
- 41:08Speaker 1: It'd be a perfect 10 weekend if we do that.

- 41:59Speaker 3: to make alone.
- 42:01Speaker 1: We saw the promo of Clay Travis and Ease Cantor
- 42:04Speaker 1: on the basketball court.
- 42:06Speaker 2: Now we.
- 42:07Speaker 1: Now we get to see clips from the sit-down.
- 42:10Speaker 2: It was quite the conversation, Chad. Yes, it was. Really fun.
- 42:17Speaker 2: And Clay even teased. There was the promo video.
- 42:20Speaker 3: I know the Jacob Lutz shot where Clay's throwing the
- 42:22Speaker 3: alley-oop or Enos Cantor's going up and dunking. And he's
- 42:25Speaker 3: saying there's going to be multiple things that are viral
- 42:27Speaker 3: clips that people are going to be interested in seeing.
- 42:30Speaker 3: This was certainly one of them. This is Enos Cantor
- 42:33Speaker 3: talking about the 2020 NBA COVID bubble experience and some
- 42:38Speaker 3: of the frivolities that were taking place within the bubble.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Here's Enos.
- 42:43Speaker 4: What did you do in the rooms? Were you active
- 42:47Speaker 4: on social media? How did you pass your time? So NBA,
- 42:52Speaker 4: which I did not do it. Let me make it
- 42:54Speaker 4: very clear. So you're not allowed to smoke marijuana. But
- 43:01Speaker 4: for that period, NBA was allowing all the players smoke marijuana.
- 43:06Speaker 2: In the hotels?
- 43:08Speaker 5: In the hotels and everywhere. And so I see all
- 43:10Speaker 5: my teammates, right? Their eyes are red. They're like, they
- 43:14Speaker 5: can barely walk. And we have like four or five
- 43:17Speaker 5: hours left till the game starts. I'm like, guys, what
- 43:19Speaker 5: are you doing?
- 43:21Speaker 4: So they would not let you go get food from
- 43:24Speaker 4: an Uber, but they let you have as much weed
- 43:26Speaker 4: in the bubble as you want.
- 43:28Speaker 5: I'll tell you another thing. This happened with the Celtics,
- 43:32Speaker 5: which was disgusting, I think. I'm glad that I did
- 43:36Speaker 5: not do it. So this is not the NBA. I
- 43:39Speaker 5: don't know who did that. They were passing away some
- 43:42Speaker 5: kind of like a password. So you can literally just
- 43:45Speaker 5: go on and watch... any OnlyFans model you want for free.
- 43:52Speaker 5: So they were just.
- 43:53Speaker 4: Somebody had a code that allowed you to go in
- 43:55Speaker 4: and you could see any OnlyFans because you're in the
- 43:57Speaker 4: rooms by yourself all day.
- 43:59Speaker 5: So they put this code on a paper. They were
- 44:01Speaker 5: just passing it. I'm like, what is this? So they
- 44:04Speaker 5: explained to me. I'm like, I'm good. I don't want it.
- 44:05Speaker 5: This is just nasty. I don't want to watch someone's daughter,
- 44:09Speaker 5: someone's whatever, just getting naked. I just wouldn't do it.
- 44:13Speaker 5: I have better morals.
- 44:14Speaker 2: By the way, you still have the code?
- 44:17Speaker 5: I don't have the code. I don't have that because
- 44:18Speaker 5: I never got it.
- 44:19Speaker 2: Not just for research purposes.
- 44:21Speaker 5: But it was just horrible. Anyway, I mean, we stayed
- 44:23Speaker 5: up for 82 days, man. And twice a day, like,
- 44:26Speaker 5: think about every morning, every night, we were just getting, like, COVID.
- 44:30Speaker 5: And also, like, if your family wanted to visit you,
- 44:32Speaker 5: because after, like, the 40th or 50th day, they start
- 44:36Speaker 5: allowing family members, but, like, with kids and everything, but
- 44:39Speaker 5: they had to stay in a room for seven days. Like,
- 44:42Speaker 5: no kid's going to do that, you know? Um, so
- 44:45Speaker 5: people were just missing their families, um, and stuff. Um,
- 44:50Speaker 5: I mean, finally it was done. Uh, we got out
- 44:52Speaker 5: of it and it was just, I was just like
- 44:56Speaker 5: a very modern prison.
- 45:01Speaker 3: A very modern prison that featured free usage of marijuana,
- 45:06Speaker 3: free usage of.
- 45:07Speaker 2: OnlyFans on the website. I mean, it sounds like a
- 45:10Speaker 2: hell of a prison when I, when I hear that
- 45:12Speaker 2: about the bubble.
- 45:13Speaker 1: You know, I hear these stories and I'm thinking to myself, man,
- 45:17Speaker 1: this is from the player's perspective. Imagine being like an
- 45:19Speaker 1: equipment manager and what that must be like to be
- 45:22Speaker 1: there for as long as they were, you know, like,
- 45:25Speaker 1: cause everything's about the players and making sure they're healthy.
- 45:27Speaker 1: making sure they have the beds that are long enough
- 45:29Speaker 1: for these seven-foot players. And then you've got the equipment
- 45:32Speaker 1: managers who, I mean, they're way down the totem pole
- 45:35Speaker 1: on making sure they're comfortable. An inside look at a non-player,
- 45:41Speaker 1: just a staff employee, a look at the NBA bubble
- 45:44Speaker 1: would be fascinating. I doubt there's any OnlyFans models that
- 45:48Speaker 1: are claiming they're receiving invitations to enter the bubble.
- 45:53Speaker 2: From an equipment manager standpoint.
- 45:56Speaker 3: It's just like the OnlyFans page has all the requests
- 46:00Speaker 3: from the viewers, the paying people of subscribers of the
- 46:04Speaker 3: OnlyFans model. And then it's just like a random message
- 46:06Speaker 3: from DeMar DeRozan, 23. It's like, do you want to
- 46:10Speaker 3: come to the NBA bubble? Or whoever's hitting them up.
- 46:14Speaker 3: Not to say that DeMar DeRozan did that, but that
- 46:16Speaker 3: was just the example that popped in my head. I'm
- 46:18Speaker 3: also laughing at you're walking through and they probably have
- 46:20Speaker 3: all those forms up that's like, Wi-Fi access with a
- 46:24Speaker 3: password and everything else, like everything for the NBA players
- 46:27Speaker 3: in the bubble. And then it has just a section
- 46:29Speaker 3: for OnlyFans access. Username, Adam.Silver at NBA.com. Password is I
- 46:36Speaker 3: run this town, you know, or whatever.
- 46:39Speaker 2: I just.
- 46:41Speaker 3: The possibilities of things that were going on. Here's the
- 46:44Speaker 3: other thing, too. Smoking weed up to three hours before
- 46:47Speaker 3: tip-off because they're not testing.
- 46:50Speaker 2: I've never been a weed guy in my life, but
- 46:53Speaker 2: it just doesn't feel like the substance you would want
- 46:56Speaker 2: to be doing before playing an NBA game.
- 47:00Speaker 3: I don't understand that. Do they allow hunting for mental health?
- 47:04Speaker 3: What was the thinking behind not testing and allowing for
- 47:07Speaker 3: that in the bubble?
- 47:08Speaker 1: I would say, does guys just want to feel high?
- 47:11Speaker 2: For the league to.
- 47:12Speaker 3: Say like, hey, we're not going to test. Just so
- 47:15Speaker 3: you know, like anything goes, they allow for marijuana smoking.
- 47:19Speaker 3: Was it something to do with COVID-19? Was it the
- 47:22Speaker 3: stress of it? I don't understand that. And I don't
- 47:24Speaker 3: understand the motivation of a player who a couple hours
- 47:28Speaker 3: before you're playing a game, You're reeking of marijuana before
- 47:31Speaker 3: you take the court. It just doesn't feel like the
- 47:33Speaker 3: right substance to me.
- 47:35Speaker 2: I agree.
- 47:36Speaker 1: I also agreed with the players back whenever the NFL
- 47:40Speaker 1: was testing for it. The players were like, how is
- 47:42Speaker 1: this performance enhancing? Why are we testing for this? This
- 47:45Speaker 1: is not performance enhancing. I would think the same thing.
- 47:47Speaker 1: It's certainly not performance enhancing to me of all the
- 47:51Speaker 1: different things to do to want to get high and
- 47:53Speaker 1: then go play a sport. To me, it would slow
- 47:55Speaker 1: things down to a manner that's hurting my team, not
- 47:57Speaker 1: helping my individual performance.
- 47:59Speaker 3: There's no way it's performance enhancing. It's performance dehancing for sure.
- 48:03Speaker 3: I mean, back in the day, you know, Mickey Mantle
- 48:05Speaker 3: would take amphetamines. Greenies, as they called them in Major
- 48:08Speaker 3: League Baseball. That's because everybody was out getting wrecked until
- 48:11Speaker 3: 3 or 4 a.m. And they were showing up for
- 48:13Speaker 3: day baseball games hungover. And they had little fixes to
- 48:17Speaker 3: get not hungover and to get ready for a game.
- 48:19Speaker 3: So they would take amphetamines to get it going again
- 48:22Speaker 3: for a game. That's a performance enhancer. I would understand
- 48:25Speaker 3: that being banned eventually, which it is, that guys are
- 48:29Speaker 3: going to take things like that to get going for
- 48:31Speaker 3: a game. The opposite effect of that is what Enos
- 48:34Speaker 3: Cantor is talking about where, hey, let's just make it
- 48:36Speaker 3: completely normal and okay to smoke weed the entire time
- 48:39Speaker 3: in the bubble and you can be high on marijuana
- 48:41Speaker 3: when you take the court.
- 48:43Speaker 2: Makes no sense to me.
- 48:44Speaker 1: Remember ESPN even sent people in that had to stay
- 48:47Speaker 1: there inside the bubble.
- 48:50Speaker 3: Do you think that OnlyFans and their firewall and the protocols,
- 48:55Speaker 3: because I feel like it's like a Netflix account, right?
- 48:58Speaker 3: Like only so many friends and family can be on
- 48:59Speaker 3: your Netflix account before they shut it down or they stop.
- 49:02Speaker 2: Allowing you to add.
- 49:03Speaker 3: If everyone is logging in, every NBA staffer and player
- 49:08Speaker 3: is logged into the same universal account for OnlyFans. Doesn't
- 49:12Speaker 3: the people at OnlyFans look at that and say, okay,
- 49:15Speaker 3: we're going to stop this? Or Hutton, do you think
- 49:17Speaker 3: this is great advertising?
- 49:18Speaker 2: We want the NBA protocols.
- 49:20Speaker 3: Players who have a ton of money to spend a
- 49:22Speaker 3: ton of money on these OnlyFans model, so we're going
- 49:24Speaker 3: to allow it to happen. We see what's going on here.
- 49:27Speaker 3: Somebody has shared a username and password with OnlyFans to
- 49:31Speaker 3: see every model, and we're going to allow for it
- 49:33Speaker 3: because we want their money.
- 49:34Speaker 2: I would think there was such a move. I'd love
- 49:36Speaker 2: for Clay's next.
- 49:36Speaker 3: Interview to be with someone with OnlyFans to explain why
- 49:39Speaker 3: the thought process behind all of the NBA using their service.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Well, there, there was a, I Googled her this, um,
- 49:45Speaker 1: stories of girls entering bubble NBA. And there's, there's one of, uh,
- 49:50Speaker 1: there's an only fans model, um, Instagram model claims player
- 49:54Speaker 1: invited her to the NBA bubble. Um, I'm sure she
- 49:57Speaker 1: didn't go. It was just the invited aspect of it. Uh,
- 50:00Speaker 1: I would love to see like the stories of like
- 50:02Speaker 1: the boom of only fans during that era where everyone's, uh,
- 50:07Speaker 1: locked up in their homes. They're probably just inundated with
- 50:10Speaker 1: so many requests that this didn't even trigger anything. The
- 50:14Speaker 1: bubble was nothing compared to the rest of the common America.
- 50:17Speaker 3: COVID destroyed some businesses, and they made a lot of businesses.
- 50:23Speaker 3: That pandemic created businesses. I think OnlyFans is one that benefited.
- 50:28Speaker 3: But there are plenty of industries that benefited from that pandemic.
- 50:31Speaker 1: Chad, remember this, like just going back to just you
- 50:33Speaker 1: and I in perspective, our podcast boomed. That year we
- 50:37Speaker 1: had over what? It was like three and a half
- 50:39Speaker 1: million for just a local radio show that year. Yeah,
- 50:45Speaker 1: that was that year, 2020. That podcast industry, of course, huge.
- 50:51Speaker 2: YouTube, you know, all that. And absolutely.
- 50:55Speaker 3: And Hutton, for all COVID related or other conspiracies, you
- 50:59Speaker 3: can watch On Tilt every day from 4 p.m.
- 51:01Speaker 2: Eastern time to 5 p.m. Eastern time.
- 51:03Speaker 3: Kelly Stewart, Kelly in Vegas, she's got you covered with
- 51:06Speaker 3: all of all the conspiracy theories about who.
- 51:08Speaker 2: Benefited and why.
- 51:10Speaker 3: I'm watching the latest season of Lioness and there's this
- 51:13Speaker 3: great scene where Nicole Kidman, who's in the show. She
- 51:16Speaker 3: plays this high ranking CIA operative, sort of a Wizard
- 51:19Speaker 3: of Oz type, you know, puppeteer of the CIA. And
- 51:24Speaker 3: her husband is an older guy who works for some
- 51:28Speaker 3: consulting firm who does work for the Department of Defense
- 51:32Speaker 3: and does research and analytics. So he's a wizard. He
- 51:35Speaker 3: knows everything that's going on in geopolitics. He knows what's
- 51:37Speaker 3: going on in industries. And he can always throw out
- 51:39Speaker 3: the different conspiracies and things that are happening. And I
- 51:42Speaker 3: feel like Kelly could be this guy. Because all he
- 51:45Speaker 3: does is answer questions with more questions. It's like, why
- 51:50Speaker 3: do you think that is? And who would stand to benefit?
- 51:54Speaker 3: And which country might that be? And who would possibly
- 51:58Speaker 3: have it out for the United States of America? And
- 52:00Speaker 3: Nicole Kidman's having to answer all of these questions one
- 52:03Speaker 3: after the other. And I'm thinking, if I'm married to
- 52:05Speaker 3: this person, I'm like, just give me the answer. I'm
- 52:06Speaker 3: trying to find my compatriot who has been kidnapped by
- 52:11Speaker 3: someone right now. Can you please get to the end
- 52:13Speaker 3: of this and stop asking questions? That could be Kelly.
- 52:16Speaker 2: And you can get all the conspiracy theories that you
- 52:18Speaker 2: want from Kelly. Kelly, love you.
- 52:21Speaker 3: Ariel.
- 52:21Speaker 2: Love you, Kelly.
- 52:22Speaker 1: Joe, God bless you. That's what we would say for
- 52:26Speaker 1: on tilt. Coming up, God bless Chad. Because this week,
- 52:30Speaker 1: I would guess a little bit different in putting together
- 52:34Speaker 1: his top ten than the last couple. Next week's going
- 52:36Speaker 1: to be very difficult because there's so many selections. This week, though,
- 52:39Speaker 1: I'm curious about his top 10 games of the college
- 52:41Speaker 1: football weekend.
- 52:42Speaker 2: He's going to tell you the games you cannot miss.
- 52:44Speaker 2: That's next here on Hunting With Row.
