- 0:01Speaker 1: This episode is brought to you by P and C Bank.
- 0:03Speaker 1: A lot of people think podcasts about work are boring,
- 0:06Speaker 1: and sure they definitely can be, but understanding a professionals
- 0:10Speaker 1: routine shows us how they achieve their success little by little,
- 0:14Speaker 1: day after day. It's like banking with P and C Bank.
- 0:18Speaker 1: It might seem boring the safe plan and make calculated
- 0:21Speaker 1: decisions with your bank, but keeping your money boring is
- 0:24Speaker 1: what helps you live or more happily fulfilled life. P
- 0:27Speaker 1: and C Bank Brilliantly Boring since eighteen sixty five. Brilliantly
- 0:32Speaker 1: Boring since eighteen sixty five is a service mark of
- 0:35Speaker 1: the PNC Financial Service Group, Inc. P and C Bank
- 0:39Speaker 1: National Association Member FDIC.
- 0:43Speaker 2: That's what we're talking about. That education process.
- 0:45Speaker 1: When you're taking on a client, how important is that
- 0:47Speaker 1: they're thinking about life after their career before you involved
- 0:51Speaker 1: them and signed them to clutch.
- 0:54Speaker 2: It's very important.
- 0:57Speaker 3: And I'm telling you man, athletes, they live a tough life.
- 1:01Speaker 3: It looks great, but when you think about all they endure.
- 1:09Speaker 2: And to pull down.
- 1:10Speaker 3: You know, I always tell my family, let me be
- 1:14Speaker 3: your back line of defense. You know, don't don't allow
- 1:19Speaker 3: yourself to think that what's mine is yours. But if
- 1:23Speaker 3: I'm your back line of defense, then you know, we
- 1:27Speaker 3: can really stay afloat. For athletes, we all have survivor's
- 1:31Speaker 3: remorse right. We all have that feeling that we feel obligated.
- 1:36Speaker 3: And like mister Bridgman said, I got guys twenty two
- 1:41Speaker 3: making two hundred million dollars over the next four or
- 1:44Speaker 3: five years.
- 1:45Speaker 2: I got several of those guys right, and by the words.
- 1:50Speaker 3: But the reality of it is, I'm constantly telling them
- 1:55Speaker 3: that's not a lot of money based upon where you're starting,
- 1:58Speaker 3: because you're starting from zero, right, So how do we
- 2:01Speaker 3: understand how to compound that? Because they're done at thirty three,
- 2:08Speaker 3: everyone's not going to be play to they're forty.
- 2:10Speaker 2: They're done there when they're thirty three. That money's taxed.
- 2:14Speaker 3: You know, they're paying a fifty five fifty one percent tax.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Not to mention genes today, the ones they want that
- 2:22Speaker 3: they're buying in excess, which they probably don't really need.
- 2:25Speaker 3: That costs two grand. It's not the same his genes
- 2:28Speaker 3: cost twenty five dollars. It's the difference, and so it's
- 2:32Speaker 3: all relative. No athlete can afford to fly private all
- 2:36Speaker 3: the time. Yet we see so many athletes on their
- 2:38Speaker 3: Instagram flying private.
- 2:41Speaker 2: I fly Delta. I cannot afford to fly private, and that's.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Okay with me, you know what, and I'll fly I'll
- 2:48Speaker 3: sit in the Comfort plus as well. Comfort plus, yeah,
- 2:53Speaker 3: because I'm just trying to get where I'm trying to
- 2:55Speaker 3: go to make the money. I'm not trying to spend
- 2:57Speaker 3: the money, you know, I'm trying to get there, you know.
- 3:03Speaker 3: And the times I do FID private, you will never
- 3:06Speaker 3: sit it on Instagram because it's not for show.
- 3:09Speaker 2: And so I think that again, it's just this mentality.
- 3:13Speaker 3: You have to value infrastructure in any business, In anything,
- 3:17Speaker 3: whether it's a family infrastructure, whether it's a business infrastructure,
- 3:22Speaker 3: you have to have that.
- 3:22Speaker 2: You can't scale without the infrastructure.
- 3:24Speaker 3: But again, growing up, all we know is how to
- 3:28Speaker 3: compete amongst once one another. He's been around a long time.
- 3:35Speaker 3: These guys have come in and out the league. They
- 3:38Speaker 3: don't aspire to be him, right, but they want to
- 3:41Speaker 3: be the Rappers, etc. Because they want to do things
- 3:45Speaker 3: in excess. He's got an unbelievable portfolio. Imagine if we
- 3:50Speaker 3: had our own fund that we allow him to oversee
- 3:54Speaker 3: as well as someone from Blackstone or someone from a
- 3:57Speaker 3: Pollo or someone from Aris, and then we compounded just
- 4:02Speaker 3: twenty percent of that income.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I don't need to hold tree.
- 4:07Speaker 3: In the circles I run in, they're much more wealthy
- 4:11Speaker 3: than I am. But I tell them I just want
- 4:15Speaker 3: a little pieces of bark. I don't need to hold,
- 4:17Speaker 3: you know, I don't need I just want to get
- 4:18Speaker 3: in the backseat. Right, I'm gonna shut up. I'm gonna
- 4:20Speaker 3: sit back here. You don't even notice I'm here. That's
- 4:23Speaker 3: how I look at myself, and I really believe that,
- 4:26Speaker 3: and so I just try to get my guys to
- 4:28Speaker 3: understand that because we come from an environment to where
- 4:32Speaker 3: we only want to conquer. We want to conquer. That's
- 4:36Speaker 3: why we're killing each other. We want to conquer. There
- 4:37Speaker 3: can only be one king, which allows you not to collaborate.
- 4:43Speaker 3: If you don't collaborate, then that means we're not communicating.
- 4:46Speaker 3: If we're not communicating, then.
- 4:48Speaker 2: That means we're unable to build what a community.
- 4:52Speaker 3: If we don't build a community, then how we're gonna
- 4:55Speaker 3: build anything generational? You just saying some shit that sounds great,
- 4:59Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, But that's not it's not
- 5:01Speaker 3: realistic without taking.
- 5:03Speaker 2: The proper steps. You understand what I'm saying. And we've
- 5:05Speaker 2: all been there, you know.
- 5:06Speaker 3: I've come from just a tough place as anybody in
- 5:09Speaker 3: the world. But at the same time, I can't have
- 5:13Speaker 3: the same habits. Once I made it out, I can't
- 5:17Speaker 3: go back and glorify the same things and not give
- 5:20Speaker 3: it up.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Right. But if you're gonna ask me for a job,
- 5:25Speaker 2: you also have to be capable of doing the work.
- 5:27Speaker 3: I can't give you anything, right, You've got to be
- 5:30Speaker 3: capable of actually doing it once that opportunity is given.
- 5:34Speaker 3: And so it's a two way street. And I'm just
- 5:37Speaker 3: you know, I stress, I really stress this all the time.
- 5:42Speaker 2: I want to be able to hire as many.
- 5:45Speaker 3: People as I can, right, but you've got to have
- 5:48Speaker 3: the capabilities, and so, you know, let's match each other's
- 5:51Speaker 3: energy from that perspective. And like he said, everybody's that
- 5:54Speaker 3: donna get rich that don't that's not realistic.
- 5:58Speaker 2: But you in position, we didn't grow up next to
- 6:00Speaker 2: people that have careers. They had hustles.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Jobs, some had decent jobs, very few had good ass
- 6:11Speaker 3: jobs and careers.
- 6:14Speaker 2: It's just the truth.
- 6:15Speaker 3: And so we're trying to fill our way through and
- 6:18Speaker 3: life is all about managing transitions. You have to be
- 6:21Speaker 3: able to That's why car comes with a transmission to
- 6:24Speaker 3: understand those gears. You got to know when to park,
- 6:26Speaker 3: when it reverse, when they stay neutral, and when they accelerate.
- 6:29Speaker 3: That is real in life itself as well. We've all
- 6:32Speaker 3: been in a situation where we had to make decisions
- 6:33Speaker 3: and say, you know what, let me just back up
- 6:36Speaker 3: a little bit, or let me just park it right
- 6:37Speaker 3: here before, or if it's going great, let me hit
- 6:41Speaker 3: the gas and get to where.
- 6:42Speaker 2: I'm trying to go.
- 6:43Speaker 3: And so that's how I think every day I wake up.
- 6:46Speaker 3: I've never celebrated one deal. I've done, not one. When
- 6:51Speaker 3: I started working with Lebron and for Lebron, I only
- 6:55Speaker 3: the most money I ever made working for Lebron was
- 6:58Speaker 3: forty eight thousand dollars a year.
- 7:00Speaker 2: That's the most I ever made. I was only on
- 7:03Speaker 2: his salary for two years.
- 7:06Speaker 3: That was since six I've been off his payroll. Right
- 7:10Speaker 3: we're in twenty twenty three. It was important for me
- 7:13Speaker 3: to get off of his payroll as fast as I
- 7:15Speaker 3: possibly could.
- 7:17Speaker 2: That was very important to me.
