- 0:27Hey, everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So today we are talking about the challenges with the Me First
- 0:36culture that we live in right now.
- 0:38You know, we all know it and we all hear it and we, you know,
- 0:41it's touted constantly. Take care of yourself first.
- 0:44You're the most important thing. And while there is a lot of
- 0:48truth in this, in a lot of ways it's kind of counterintuitive to
- 0:53how our brains and souls are programmed, because we are.
- 0:57Creatures that need to be together.
- 0:59We are group creatures. We have this need to be
- 1:02connected, and we all talk about how we rise together with the
- 1:07tide. We all have these needs for
- 1:10human connection. Humans have a need for human
- 1:13connection, yet we have become very selfcentered in a lot of
- 1:19ways and. The debate is always going back
- 1:22and forth. Well, is this me culture of
- 1:25instant gratification and constantly focusing on yourself?
- 1:28Is it a good thing? So I was asked that question
- 1:32this week. So I thought, I'm going to talk
- 1:34to you guys about it because I think it's an interesting thing.
- 1:36It has its benefits. Let let's be very clear about
- 1:39it. It has its benefits because we
- 1:41stop just constantly pouring into others.
- 1:43But like everything else in nature, there's a balance.
- 1:46There's a balance between it. And if you are doing it at the
- 1:50detriment of your family, if you're doing it at the detriment
- 1:54of understanding what it means to care for other people and
- 2:00other things, whether it's chickens, dogs, birds.
- 2:03I don't care what it is. It doesn't make a difference.
- 2:06It's There is something primal, there's something innate in us
- 2:12as human beings to care for things.
- 2:15I get massive joy out of caring for my chickens, my gardens, my
- 2:20flowers. I think about them, I focus on
- 2:23them because there's such a level of joy in it.
- 2:27So the point that you have to kind of jump off from what this
- 2:32is, is my me stuff getting in the way of the US stuff.
- 2:37Interesting question, right? And for me, I take this very
- 2:41personally because I want to be able to.
- 2:45Do it all and people will say you can't do it all.
- 2:48And I'm like, well, that's bullshit.
- 2:49Yes, you can do it all. You just have to figure out how
- 2:52it works and you have to be okay with where you're you're setting
- 2:56your perimeters. So do I work a lot of hours?
- 2:58Yes. But I don't consider them work.
- 3:00I consider coaching. I don't consider coaching work.
- 3:04I consider coaching something that I absolutely am meant to
- 3:06do. That is the work of my soul and
- 3:09I don't have. I don't feel exhausted doing it.
- 3:13I want to be able to make my son pancakes in the morning because
- 3:16he likes pancakes for breakfast. He's not the best eater and I
- 3:19like to be able to do that for him, So I make sure I get up
- 3:23with the time to be able to do that.
- 3:25I enjoy doing chores that better My family.
- 3:29I enjoy those things. Like, I actually like doing the
- 3:32laundry. And I like folding the laundry,
- 3:34and I like putting it away and feeling organized with it.
- 3:37So I do that and I do that because it is a part of me that
- 3:43fills me back up at and it takes care of them.
- 3:47At the same time, do I need time for myself?
- 3:50Absolutely. Do I enjoy time to myself, Yes.
- 3:54And only child. For crying out loud, me time is
- 3:57a is a thing that's a real, real important part of my hardwire.
- 4:02But I don't do it at the detriment of my greater self,
- 4:06which is that of giving back to everybody.
- 4:08Like, you know, OK, every morning I come out and I shoot a
- 4:11podcast because that is time that I look at.
- 4:15I can give back. It's my give back project to
- 4:18everybody. It's something that I can pour
- 4:20into. Is it something that takes time
- 4:23out of my morning? Yes.
- 4:24Is every 5 minutes important in the day?
- 4:27Yes, Yes, absolutely. But I do it anyway because it
- 4:30fills me back up. So you have to balance this me
- 4:34time, this me culture piece out with how much are you robbing
- 4:39yourself from the contribution that you give to other people.
- 4:43Because if it this, I wouldn't give this up for anything doing
- 4:46this because it makes me feel amazing coming out and doing
- 4:50this, First of all it sets me in the right tone for the day.
- 4:53It puts my head in the right space and it gives everybody
- 4:57else something. That they can jump onto and feel
- 5:00good about. So that connection, that human
- 5:02connection is way better than the meantime I would have if I
- 5:06was using that to paint right now or using it to read.
- 5:09So I say, oh, OK well, I just have to find another time to
- 5:12paint and read and do I do that? Absolutely I do it and I make
- 5:16sure it happens. So you have to find the balance
- 5:19between always focusing on yourself and giving back to
- 5:24those around you because the gifts and.
- 5:26Giving are just as big as the gifts in taking care of
- 5:30yourself. As long as you rewire your head
- 5:33and you have the the right thought process around it, it
- 5:36can be some of the most joyous things ever.
- 5:39But you have to do that work and this is a great way to start.
- 5:43All right my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I will
- 5:46see you tomorrow. Bye.
