- 0:01Dot com Welcome to the Daily Quote, a podcast designed to
- 0:09kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:11I'm your host, Daniel McGivern for May 16th.
- 0:15Now, I don't know if you've ever owned a packet of powder that
- 0:18promised to bring tiny underwater life forms to your
- 0:21kitchen counter, but today we celebrate just that level of
- 0:26whimsical wonder. National Sea Monkey Day.
- 0:30Yes, sea monkeys, those almost microscopic creatures that look
- 0:35like shrimp, have the marketing power of a 1950s comic book ad
- 0:40and somehow still managed to charm generation after
- 0:45generation. Sea monkeys may not be real
- 0:48monkeys, or maybe not even sea dwelling creatures, but they do
- 0:53embody something undeniably delightful.
- 0:57The magic of belief, of imagination, and of the small
- 1:01joys that make life a little lighter.
- 1:04Which brings me to today's quote from Albert Einstein, who once
- 1:08said imagination is more important than knowledge, for
- 1:13knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire
- 1:18world. Now, I'm pretty sure Einstein
- 1:21wasn't referring to sea monkeys when he said this, but then
- 1:25again, the man did have quite the hair.
- 1:29He could have passed for a sea monkey himself if you squinted
- 1:32hard enough. This quote reminds you that
- 1:36knowledge tells you sea monkeys are brine shrimp with a fancy
- 1:39name. But imagination?
- 1:42Imagination let's a child believe they're raising a
- 1:45civilization of aquatic nobility, complete with
- 1:49underwater castles and dramatic, soap opera worthy sea monkey
- 1:52affairs. And that's the real take away
- 1:55today. In a world that often feels
- 1:59heavy with facts, deadlines, and adult responsibilities,
- 2:03sometimes what you really need is to sprinkle in a little
- 2:07powdered magic into your day, stir it around, and just watch
- 2:12the wonder happen. So on this National Sea Monkey
- 2:16Day, give yourself permission to dream, to play, and to indulge
- 2:20in a little bit of creative nonsense.
- 2:23You might just find it makes the rest of your day feel a lot more
- 2:26alive, even if it doesn't come swimming out of a plastic tank.
- 2:32I had sea monkeys when I was a kid.
- 2:35And man, Speaking of imagination, the marketers
- 2:39behind sea monkeys, they have a good one.
- 2:43They had sea monkey ladies in bikinis lying on the beach and
- 2:48castles and all sorts of things going on.
- 2:52I mean sea monkeys that actually came to life in my little sea
- 2:56monkey tank. They didn't look anything like
- 2:59that pitcher, but I still like them.
- 3:02I had no buyer's remorse at all. I love those little guys and
- 3:07girls, and I even got the hot tub.
- 3:11You know you can pay extra to get the Sea Monkey hot tub,
- 3:13which was just an air stone that you squeeze to create bubbles.
- 3:18Anyways, that's it for now. I'm Andrew McGivern signing off
- 3:22for today, but I'll be back tomorrow.
- 3:23Same pod time, same pod station with another daily quote.
