- 0:00Chapter forty, God's people delivered. When the protection of human laws shall be
- 0:05withdrawn from those who honor the law of God, there will be in different
- 0:09lands a simultaneous movement for their destruction. As the time appointed in the decree
- 0:15draws near, the people will conspire to root out the hated sect. It
- 0:19will be determined to strike in one night a decisive blow which shall utterly silence
- 0:24the voice of descent and reproof the people of God. Some in prison cells,
- 0:30some hidden in solitary retreats, in the forests and the mountains still plead
- 0:34for divine protection, while in every quarter companies of armed men, urged on
- 0:39by hosts of evil angels, are preparing for the work of death. It
- 0:44is now, in the hour of utmost extremity, that the God of Israel
- 0:47will interpose for the deliverance of his chosen saith. The Lord Ye shall have
- 0:53a song as in the night when a holy solemnity is kept, and gladness
- 0:57of heart, as when one goeth to come into the mountain of Jehovah to
- 1:00the Mighty One of Israel. And the Lord shall cause his glorious voice to
- 1:04be heard, and shall show the lighting down of his arm, with the
- 1:07indignation of his anger, and with the flame of a devouring fire, with
- 1:11scattering and tempest, and hailstones, with shouts of triumph, jeering and imprecation.
- 1:18Throngs of evil men are about to rush upon their prey when low,
- 1:22a dense blackness, deeper than the darkness of the night, falls upon the
- 1:26earth. Then a rainbow, shining with the glory from the throne of God,
- 1:30spans the heavens and seems to encircle each praying company. The angry multitudes
- 1:36are suddenly arrested. Their mocking cries die away, the objects of their murderous
- 1:42rage are forgotten. With fearful forebodings, they gaze upon the symbol of God's
- 1:47covenant and long to be shielded from its overpowering brightness by the people of God.
- 1:53A voice, clear and melodious is heard, saying, look up,
- 1:57and lifting their eyes to the heavens, they behold the bow of Promise.
- 2:00The black, angry clouds that covered the firmament are parted, and like Stephen,
- 2:05they look up steadfastly into heaven and see the glory of God and the
- 2:08Son of Man seated upon his throne in his divine form, they discern the
- 2:14marks of his humiliation, and from his lips they hear the request presented before
- 2:19his Father and the holy angels. I will that they also, whom thou
- 2:23hast given me, be with me where I am again. A voice,
- 2:28musical and triumphant is heard, saying, they come. They come, wholly,
- 2:31harmless and undefiled. They have kept the word of my patience. They
- 2:36shall walk among the angels, and the pale, quivering lips of those who
- 2:39have held fast their faith utter a shout of victory. It is at midnight
- 2:45that God manifests his power for the deliverance of his people. The sun appears,
- 2:50shining in its strength. Signs and wonders follow in quick succession. The
- 2:54wicked look with terror and amazement upon the scene, while the righteous behold with
- 3:00solemn joy the tokens of their deliverance. Everything in nature seems turned out of
- 3:05its course. The streams cease to flow, dark heavy clouds come up and
- 3:09clash against each other. In the midst of the angry heavens is one clear
- 3:14space of indescribable glory. Whence comes the voice of God, like the sound
- 3:19of many waters, saying it is done. That voice shakes the heavens and
- 3:24the earth. There is a mighty earthquake, such as was not since men
- 3:28were upon the earth. So mighty an earthquake, and so great the firmament
- 3:32appears to open and shut. The glory from the throne of God seems flashing
- 3:37through. The mountains shake like a reed in the wind, and ragged rocks
- 3:42are scattered on every side. There is a roar as of a coming tempest.
- 3:46The sea is lashed into fury. There is heard the shriek of the
- 3:51hurricane, like the voice of demons upon a mission of destruction. The whole
- 3:54earth heaves and swells like the waves of the sea, its surfaces breaking up.
- 4:00Its very foundations seem to be giving way. Mountain chains are sinking,
- 4:06Inhabited islands disappear. The seaports that have become like sodom for wickedness are swallowed
- 4:13up by the angry waters. Babylon, the Great has come in remembrance before
- 4:16God to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his
- 4:20wrath. Great hailstones, every one about the weight of a talent are doing
- 4:26their work of destruction. The proudest cities of the earth are laid low.
- 4:30The lordly palaces upon which the world's great men have lavished their wealth in order
- 4:34to glorify themselves, are crumbling to ruin before their eyes. Prison walls are
- 4:41rent asunder, and God's people, who have been held in bondage for their
- 4:44faith are set free. Graves are opened, and many of them that sleep
- 4:48in the dust of the earth awake, some to everlasting life and some to
- 4:53shame and everlasting contempt. All who have died in the faith of the Third
- 4:58Angel's message come forth the tomb glorified to hear God's covenant of peace with those
- 5:02who have kept his law. They also which pierced him, those that mocked
- 5:08and derided Christ's dying agonies, and the most violent opposers of his truth and
- 5:13his people are raised to behold Him in his glory and to see the honor
- 5:16placed upon the loyal and obedient. Thick clouds still cover the sky, yet
- 5:23the sun now and then breaks through, appearing like the avenging eye of Jehovah.
- 5:28Fierce lightnings leap from the heavens, enveloping the earth in a sheet of
- 5:31flame. Above the terrific roar of thunder voices, mysterious and awful, declare
- 5:36the doom of the wicked. The words spoken are not comprehended by all,
- 5:42but they are distinctly understood by the false teachers. Those who a little before
- 5:46were so reckless, so boastful, and defiant, so exultant in their cruelty
- 5:51to God's commandment keeping people are now overwhelmed with consternation and shuddering in fear.
- 5:58Their wails are heard above the sound of the elements. Demons acknowledge the deity
- 6:02of Christ and tremble before his power, while men are supplicating for mercy and
- 6:08groveling in abject terror. Set the prophets of old as they beheld in holy
- 6:14vision. The Day of God, how ye, for the day of the
- 6:16Lord is at hand. It shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
- 6:21Enter into the rock and hide thee in the dust, for fear of the
- 6:25Lord and for the glory of his majesty. The lofty looks of man shall
- 6:29be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the
- 6:32Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. For the day of the Lord
- 6:38of Hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon
- 6:41every one that is lifted up, and he shall be brought low. In
- 6:46that day a man shall cast the idols of his silver and the idols of
- 6:49his gold, which they made, each one for himself to worship, to
- 6:53the moles and to the bats, to go into the clefts of the rocks,
- 6:57and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the load,
- 7:00and for the glory of his majesty. When he ariseth to shake terribly
- 7:03the earth, through a rift in the clouds, there beams a star whose
- 7:09brilliancy is increased fourfold in contrast with the darkness. It speaks hope and joy
- 7:14to the faithful, but severity and wrath to the transgressors of God's law.
- 7:18Those who have sacrificed all for Christ are now secure hidden as in the secret
- 7:24of the Lord's pavilion. They have been tested, and before the world and
- 7:29the despisers of truth, they have evinced their fidelity to Him who died for
- 7:32them. A marvelous change has come over those who have held fast their integrity
- 7:38in the very face of death. They have been suddenly delivered from the dark
- 7:42and terrible tyranny of men, transformed to demons. Their faces so lately pale,
- 7:47anxious, and haggard, are now aglow with wonder, faith and love.
- 7:51Their voices rise in triumphant song. God is our refuge and strength,
- 7:57of very present help and trouble. Therefore, will not we fear, though
- 8:01the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of
- 8:05the sea, though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains
- 8:09shake with the swelling thereof. While these words of holy trust ascend to God,
- 8:13the clouds sweep back, and the starry heavens are seen unspeakably glorious,
- 8:18in contrast with the black and angry firmament on either side. The glory of
- 8:24the celestial city streams from the gates Ajar. Then there appears against the sky
- 8:28a hand holding two tables of stone folded together, says the prophet, the
- 8:35heavens shall declare his righteousness, For God is judge himself. That holy law,
- 8:41God's righteousness, that amid thunder and flame, was proclaimed from Sinai as
- 8:45a guide of life, is now revealed to men as the rule of judgment.
- 8:50The hand opens the tables, and there are seen the precepts of the
- 8:52Decalogue, traced as with a pen of fire. The words are so plain
- 8:58that all can read them. Memory is aroused, the darkness of superstition and
- 9:03heresy as swept from every mind, and God's ten words, brief, comprehensive,
- 9:07and authoritative, are presented to the view of all the inhabitants of the
- 9:11earth. It is impossible to describe the horror and despair of those who have
- 9:16trampled upon God's holy requirements. The Lord gave them his law. They might
- 9:22have compared their characters with it and learned their defects while there was yet opportunity
- 9:26for repentance and reform. But in order to secure the favor of the world,
- 9:31they set aside its precepts and taught others to transgress. They have endeavored
- 9:35to compel God's people to profane his Sabbath. Now they are condemned by that
- 9:41law which they have despised. With awful distinctness. They see that they are
- 9:46without excuse. They chose whom they would serve in worship. Then shall you
- 9:50return and descern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God
- 9:56and him that serveth Him. Not the enemies of God's love law. From
- 10:00the ministers down to the least among them have a new conception of truth and
- 10:03duty. Too late they see that the Sabbath of the Fourth Commandment is the
- 10:09seal of the Living God. Too late they see the true nature of their
- 10:13spurious sabbath and the sandy foundation upon which they have been building. They find
- 10:18that they have been fighting against God. Religious teachers have led souls to perdition
- 10:24while professing to guide them to the gates of paradise. Not until the day
- 10:28of final accounts will it be known how great is the responsibility of men in
- 10:31holy office, and how terrible are the results of their unfaithfulness. Only an
- 10:37eternity can we rightly estimate the loss of a single soul. Fearful will be
- 10:41the doom of him to whom God shall say, depart, thou, wicked
- 10:46servant. The voice of God is heard from Heaven, declaring the day and
- 10:50hour of Jesus coming and delivering the everlasting Covenant to his people. Like peals
- 10:56of loudest thunder, his words roll through the earth. The Israel of God
- 11:01stand listening, with their eyes fixed upward. Their countenances are lighted up with
- 11:05His glory. And shine, as did the face of Moses when he came
- 11:07down from Sinai. The wicked cannot look upon them. And when the blessing
- 11:13is pronounced on those who have honored God by keeping his Sabbath holy, there
- 11:16is a mighty shout of victory. Soon there appears in the east a small
- 11:22black cloud, about half the size of a man's hand. It is the
- 11:26cloud which surrounds the Savior, and which seems in the distance to be shrouded
- 11:31in darkness. The people of God know this to be the sign of the
- 11:35Son of Man. In solemn silence. They gaze upon it as it draws
- 11:39nearer the earth, becoming lighter and more glorious, until it is a great
- 11:43white cloud, its base a glory like consuming fire, and above it the
- 11:48rainbow of the Covenant. Jesus rides forth as a mighty conqueror, not now
- 11:54a man of sorrows to drink the bitter cup of shame and woe. He
- 11:58comes victor in heaven and earth, to the living and the dead. Faithful
- 12:01and true in righteousness, he doth judge and make war. And the armies
- 12:07which were in heaven follow him with anthems of celestial melody. The Holy angels,
- 12:11a vast, unnumbered throng attend him on his way. The firmament seems
- 12:16filled with radiant forms ten thousand times ten thousand and thousands of thousands. No
- 12:24human pen can portray the scene. No mortal mind is adequate to conceive its
- 12:28splendor. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his
- 12:33praise, and his brightness was as the light. As the living cloud comes
- 12:37still nearer, every eye beholds the Prince of life. No crown of thorns
- 12:43now mars that sacred head, but a diadem of glory rests on his holy
- 12:46brow. His countenance outshines the dazzling brightness of the noonday sun. And he
- 12:52hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written King of Kings and
- 12:56Lord of lords. Before his present, since all faces are turned into paleness,
- 13:01upon the rejectors of God's mercy, falls the terror of eternal despair.
- 13:07The heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and the faces of them
- 13:11all gather blackness. The righteous cry with trembling, who shall be able to
- 13:16stand? The angel's song is hushed, and there is a period of awful
- 13:20silence. Then the voice of Jesus has heard, saying, my grace is
- 13:24sufficient for you. The faces of the righteous are lighted up, and joy
- 13:30fills every heart, and the angels strike a note higher and sing again.
- 13:35As they draw still nearer to the earth, the King of Kings descends upon
- 13:39the cloud, wrapt in flaming fire. The heavens are rolled together as a
- 13:43scroll. The earth trembles before him, and every mountain and island is moved
- 13:48out of its place. Our God shall come and shall not keep silence.
- 13:52A fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about
- 13:58him. He shall call to the heavens from above and to the earth,
- 14:01that he may judge his people. And the kings of the earth, and
- 14:05the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and
- 14:09the mighty men, and every bond men and every freeman hid themselves in the
- 14:13dens and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and
- 14:16rocks, fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him that
- 14:18sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the lamb. For the
- 14:22great day of his wrath is come, And who shall be able to stand.
- 14:28The derisive jests have ceased. Lying lips are hushed into silence. The
- 14:31clash of arms, the tumult of battle, with confused noise and garments rolled
- 14:37in blood, is stilled. Nought now is heard but the voice of prayer,
- 14:41and the sound of weeping and lamentation. The cry bursts forth from lips
- 14:46so lately scoffing. The great day of his wrath is come. And who
- 14:50shall be able to stand, though wicked prey to be buried beneath the rocks
- 14:54of the mountains, rather than meet the face of him whom they have despised
- 14:58and rejected. That voice which penetrates the ear of the dead. They know,
- 15:03how often have its plaintive, tender tones called them to repentance. How
- 15:07often has it been heard in the touching entreaties of a friend, a brother,
- 15:11a redeemer to the rejectors of his grace. No other could be so
- 15:16full of condemnation, so burdened with denunciation as that voice which is so long
- 15:20pleaded, Turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways? For why will
- 15:24ye die? Oh? That it were to them the voice of a stranger,
- 15:30says Jesus, I have called and ye refused. I have stretched out
- 15:33my hand, and no man regarded. But ye have said it not all
- 15:37my counsel, and would none of my reproof. That voice awakens memories which
- 15:41they would fain blot out, warnings, despised invitations, refused, privileges slighted.
- 15:48There are those who mocked Christ in his humiliation. With thrilling power,
- 15:54come to their minds the sufferer's words. When adjured by the high priest,
- 15:58he solemnly declared, hereafter shall ye see the son of Man sitting on the
- 16:03right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. Now they
- 16:07behold him in his glory, and they are yet to see him sitting on
- 16:10the right hand of power. Those who derided his claim to be the son
- 16:14of God are speechless. Now there is the haughty herod who jeered at his
- 16:18royal title and bade the mocking soldiers crown him king. There are the very
- 16:22men who with him pious hands placed upon his form, the purple robe,
- 16:27upon his sacred brow, the thorny crown, and in his unresisting hand.
- 16:32The men except and bowed before him in blasphemous mockery. The men who smote
- 16:37and spit upon the Prince of life. Now turn from his piercing gaze and
- 16:41seek to flee from the overpowering glory of his presence. Those who drove the
- 16:47nails through his hands and feet, the soldier who pierced his side, behold
- 16:51these marks with terror and remorse. With awful distinctness do priests and rulers recall
- 16:56the events of cavalry with shuddering horror. They remember how, wagging their heads
- 17:02in satanic exultation, they exclaimed, he saved others himself he cannot save if
- 17:07he be the King of Israel. Let him now come down from the cross,
- 17:11and we will believe him he trusted in God. Let him deliver him
- 17:15now, if he will have him. Vividly they recall the Saviour's parable of
- 17:19the husbandmen who refused to render to their lord, the fruit of the vineyard,
- 17:23who abused his servants and slew his son. They remember too, the
- 17:29sentence which they themselves pronounced. The Lord of the Vineyard will miserably destroy those
- 17:33wicked men. In the sin and punishment of those unfaithful men, the priests
- 17:38and elders see their own course and their own just doom. And now there
- 17:42rise is a cry of mortal agony. Louder than the shout Crucify Him,
- 17:48Crucify Him, which rang through the streets of Jerusalem, swells the awful,
- 17:52despairing wail. He is the son of God, He is the true Messiah.
- 17:57They seek to flee from the presence of the King of kings. In
- 18:02the deep caverns of the earth, rent asunder by the warring of the elements,
- 18:06they vainly attempt to hide in the lives of all who reject truth.
- 18:10There are moments when conscience awakens, when memory presents the torturing recollection of a
- 18:15life of hypocrisy, and the soul is harassed with vain regrets. But what
- 18:21are these compared with the remorse of that day? When fear cometh as desolation,
- 18:26when destruction cometh as a whrowind, those who would have destroyed Christ and
- 18:30his faithful people now witness the glory which rests upon them. In the midst
- 18:36of their terror, they hear the voices of the saints in joyful strains,
- 18:38exclaiming, Lo, this is our God. We have waited for him,
- 18:42and he will save us. Amid the reeling of the earth, the flash
- 18:47of lightning and the roar of thunder. The voice of the Son of God
- 18:51calls forth the sleeping saints. He looks upon the graves of the righteous.
- 18:56Then, raising his hands to heaven, he cries, Awake, Awake,
- 19:00Awake, ye that sleep in the dust, and arise. Throughout the length
- 19:04and breadth of the earth. The dead shall hear that voice, and they
- 19:08that here shall live, and the whole earth shall ring with the tread of
- 19:12the exceeding great army of every nation, kindred, tongue and people. From
- 19:18the prison house of death. They come, clothed with immortal glory, crying,
- 19:22O death, where is thy sting O grave? Where is thy victory?
- 19:26And the living Righteous and the risen saints unite their voices in a long,
- 19:30glad shout of victory. All come forth from their graves, the same
- 19:36in stature as when they entered the tomb. Adam, who stands among the
- 19:40risen throng, is of lofty height and majestic form in stature, but little
- 19:45below the Son of God. He presents a marked contrast to the people of
- 19:49later generations. In this one respect is shown the great degeneracy of the race.
- 19:55But all arise with the freshness and vigor of eternal youth. In the
- 19:59beginn man was created in the likeness of God, not only in character,
- 20:03but in form and feature. Sin deffaced and almost obliterated the divine image.
- 20:08But Christ came to restore that which had been lost. He will change our
- 20:14vile bodies and fashion them likened to His glorious body. The mortal, corruptible
- 20:18form, devoid of comeliness, once polluted with sin, becomes perfect, beautiful,
- 20:23and immortal. All blemishes and deformities are left in the grave, restored
- 20:30to the tree of life in the long lost Eden, the redeemed will grow
- 20:33up to the full stature of the race in its primeval glory. The last
- 20:37lingering traces of the curse of sin will be removed, and Christ's faithful ones
- 20:42will appear in the beauty of the Lord, our God, in mind and
- 20:45soul and body, reflecting the perfect image of their Lord. Oh wonderful redemption.
- 20:52Long talked of, long hoped for, contemplated with eager anticipation, but
- 20:56never fully understood. The living righteous are changed in a moment, in the
- 21:00twinkling of an eye at the voice of God. They were glorified. Now
- 21:04they are made immortal, and with the risen saints are caught up to meet
- 21:08their Lord. In the air, Angels gather together the elect from the four
- 21:12winds, from one end of heaven to the other. Little children are borne
- 21:18by holy angels to their mother's arms. Friends long separated by death are united
- 21:22never more to part, and with songs of gladness, ascend together to the
- 21:26City of God. On each side of the cloudy chariot are wings, and
- 21:32beneath it our living wheels. And as the chariot rolls upward, the wheels
- 21:36cry wholly, and the wings, as they move, cry holly. And
- 21:40the retinue of angels cry Holly, Holy, Holy Lord, God Almighty,
- 21:45and the Redeemed shout Allelujah. As the chariot moves on or toward the New
- 21:48Jerusalem. Before entering the City of God, the Savior bestows upon his followers
- 21:53the emblems of victory and invests them with the insignia of their royal state.
- 21:59The glittering ranks are drawn up in the form of a hollow square about their
- 22:03King, whose form rises in majesty high above saint and Angel, whose countenance
- 22:07beams upon them full of benignant love. Throughout the unnumbered host of the Redeemed.
- 22:14Every glance is fixed upon him. Every eye beholds his glory, whose
- 22:18visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the
- 22:22sons of men. Upon the heads of the overcomers, Jesus, with his
- 22:26own right hand places the crown of glory. For each there is a crown
- 22:30bearing his own new name, and the inscription holiness to the Lord. In
- 22:36every hand are placed the victor's palm and the shining harp. Then, as
- 22:41the commanding angels strike the note, every hand sweeps the harp strings with skillful
- 22:45touch, awaking sweet music and rich melodious strains rapture unutterable thrills. Every heart
- 22:52and each voice is raised in grateful praise. Unto Him that loved us and
- 22:57washed us from our sins in his own blood, and hath made us kings
- 23:00and priests. Unto God and his Father to him be glory and dominion forever
- 23:06and ever. Before the ransomed throng is the Holy City. Jesus opens wide
- 23:11the pearly gates, and the nations that have kept the truth enter in.
- 23:15There they behold the Paradise of God, the home of Adam. In his
- 23:18innocency. Then that voice, richer than any music that ever fell on mortal
- 23:23ear, is heard, saying your conflict is ended. Come, ye,
- 23:27blessed of my Father inherit. The kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of
- 23:33the world now is fulfilled. The Saviour's prayer for his disciples, I will
- 23:37that they also whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am
- 23:42faultless before the presence of His glory. With exceeding joy, Christ presents to
- 23:47the Father the purchase of his blood, declaring, here am I and the
- 23:51children whom thou hast given me, those that thou gavest me I have kept.
- 23:56Oh, the wonders of redeeming love. The rapture of the hour when
- 24:00the infinite Father, looking upon the ransom, shall behold his image, sins
- 24:04discord banished, its blight removed, and the human once more in harmony with
- 24:10the Divine. With unutterable love, Jesus welcomes his faithful ones to the joy
- 24:15of their Lord. The Saviour's joy is in seeing in the Kingdom of Glory
- 24:19the souls that have been saved by his agony and humiliation, and the redeemed
- 24:25will be shares in His joy. As they behold among the blessed those who
- 24:29have been won to Christ through their prayers, their labors, and their loving
- 24:32sacrifice. As they gather about the great White Throne, gladness unspeakable will fill
- 24:37their hearts when they behold those whom they have won for Christ, and see
- 24:41that one has gained others, and these still others, all brought into the
- 24:45haven of Rest, there to lay their crowns at Jesus feet and praise Him
- 24:49through the endless cycles of eternity. As the ransomed ones are welcomed to the
- 24:55City of God, there rings out upon the air an exultant cry of adoration.
- 25:00The two atoms are about to meet. The Son of God is standing
- 25:03with outstretched arms to receive the Father of our race, the being whom he
- 25:07created, who sinned against his Maker, and for whose sin the marks of
- 25:12the crucifixion are borne upon the Saviour's form. As Adam diserns the Prince of
- 25:18the cruel nails, he does not fall upon the bosom of his Lord,
- 25:22but in humiliation, casts himself at his feet, crying worthy worthy is the
- 25:26lamb that was slain tenderly the Savior lifts him up and bids him luck once
- 25:32more upon the Eden, home from which he has so long been exiled.
- 25:36After his expulsion from Eden, Adam's life on earth was filled with sorrow.
- 25:41Every dying leaf, every victim of sacrifice, every blight upon the fair face
- 25:45of nature, every stain upon man's purity was a fresh reminder of his sin.
- 25:52Terrible was the agony of remorse as he beheld iniquity of bounding, and
- 25:56in answer to his warnings, met the reproaches cast upon himself the cause of
- 26:00sin. With patient humility, he bore for nearly a thousand years the penalty
- 26:06of transgression. Faithfully did he repent of his sin and trust in the merits
- 26:11of the promised Savior. And he died in the hope of a resurrection.
- 26:15The Son of God redeemed man's failure and fall. And now, through the
- 26:18work of the Atonement, Adam is reinstated in his first dominion. Transported with
- 26:25joy, he beholds the trees that were once his delight, the very trees
- 26:29whose fruit he himself had gathered in the days of his innocence. And joy.
- 26:33He sees the vines that his own hands have trained, the very flowers
- 26:37that he once loved to care for. His mind grasps the reality of the
- 26:41scene. He comprehends that this is indeed Eden restored, more lovely now than
- 26:45when he was banished from it. The Savior leads him to the Tree of
- 26:49Life and plucks the glorious fruit and bids him eat. He looks about him
- 26:55and beholds a multitude of his family, redeemed, standing in the paradise of
- 26:59God. Then he casts his glittering crown at the feet of Jesus, and,
- 27:03falling upon his breast, embraces the Redeemer. He touches the golden harp,
- 27:08and the vaults of heaven echo the triumphant song. Worthy, Worthy,
- 27:12Worthy is the lamb that was slain and lives again. The family of Adam
- 27:18take up the strain and casts their crowns at the Saviour's feet as they bow
- 27:21before him in adoration. This reunion is witnessed by the angels, who wept
- 27:26at the fall of Adam and rejoiced when Jesus, after his resurrection, ascended
- 27:30to Heaven, having opened the grave for all who should believe on his name.
- 27:36Now they behold the work of redemption accomplished. And they unite their voices
- 27:40in the song of praise upon the crystal sea before the throne, that sea
- 27:45of glass, as it were mingled with fire, so resplendent is it.
- 27:48With the glory of God. Are gathered the company that have gotten the victory
- 27:52over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and
- 27:55over the number of his name, with the Lamb, upon Mount Zion,
- 28:00having the harps of God, they stand the hundred and forty and four thousand
- 28:03that were redeemed from among men. And there is heard, as the sound
- 28:07of many waters, and as the sound of a great thunder, the voice
- 28:11of harpers, harping with their harps, and they sang a new song before
- 28:15the throne, a song which no man can learn save the hundred and forty
- 28:18and four thousand. It is the song of Moses and the Lamb, a
- 28:22song of deliverance. None but the hundred and forty four thousand can learn that
- 28:27song, for it is the song of their experience, an experience such as
- 28:32no other company have ever had. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever
- 28:37he goeth. These, having been translated from the earth from among the living,
- 28:41are counted as the first fruits unto God and to the Lamb. These
- 28:45are they which came out of great tribulation. They have passed through the time
- 28:49of trouble such as never was since there was a nation. They have endured
- 28:53the anguish of the time of Jacob's trouble. They have stood without an intercessor
- 28:57through the final outpouring of God's judgments. But they have been delivered, for
- 29:03they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
- 29:07In their mouth was found no guile, For they are without fault before
- 29:11God. Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day
- 29:15and night in his temple. And he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell
- 29:18among them. They have seen the earth wasted with famine and pestilence, the
- 29:23sun having power to scorch men with great heat. And they themselves have endured
- 29:27suffering, hunger and thirst. But they shall hunger no more, neither thirst
- 29:33any more. Neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.
- 29:37For the Lamb, which is in the midst of the throne, shall feed
- 29:38them and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters. And God shall wipe
- 29:44away all tears from their eyes. In all ages, the saviors chosen have
- 29:48been educated and disciplined in the school of trial. They walked in narrow paths
- 29:52on earth. They were purified in the furnace of affliction. For jesus sake,
- 29:57they endured opposition, hatred, calumny. They followed him through conflicts sore.
- 30:03They endured self denial and experienced bitter disappointments. By their own painful experience,
- 30:10they learned the evil of sin, its power, its guilt, its
- 30:14woe, and they look upon it with abhorrence. A sense of the infinite
- 30:18sacrifice made for its cure humbles them in their own sight and fills their hearts
- 30:22with gratitude and praise, which those who have never fallen cannot appreciate. They
- 30:29love much because they have been forgiven much, Having been partakers of Christ's sufferings,
- 30:34they are fitted to be partakers with him of his glory. The heirs
- 30:38of God have come from garrets, from hovels, from dungeons, from scaffolds,
- 30:42from mountains, from deserts, from the caves of the earth, from
- 30:45the caverns of the sea. On earth, they were destitute, afflicted,
- 30:49tormented. Millions went down to the grave, loaded with infamy. Because they
- 30:55steadfastly refused to yield to the deceptive claims of Satan. By human tribunals,
- 31:00they were adjudged the vilest of criminals. But now God is judge himself.
- 31:07Now the decisions of earth are reversed. The rebuke of his people shall he
- 31:11take away. They shall call them the Holy People, the redeemed of the
- 31:15Lord. He hath appointed to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil
- 31:19of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.
- 31:25They are no longer feeble, afflicted, scattered and oppressed. Henceforth they are
- 31:30to be ever with the Lord. They stand before the throne, clad in
- 31:33richer robes than the most honored of the earth have ever worn. They are
- 31:37crowned with diadems more glorious than were ever placed upon the brow of earthly monarchs.
- 31:42The days of pain and weeping are forever ended. The King of Glory
- 31:48has wiped the tears from all faces. Every cause of grief has been removed.
- 31:52Amid the waving of palm branches, they pour forth a song of praise,
- 31:56clear, sweet and harmonious. Every boy takes up the strain until the
- 32:00anthem swells through the vaults of heaven, Salvation to our God, which sitteth
- 32:06upon the throne and unto the lamb, and all the inhabitants of heaven respond
- 32:10in the inscription Amen, blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and
- 32:16power and might be unto our God forever and ever. In this life we
- 32:22can only begin to understand the wonderful theme of redemption. With our finite comprehension,
- 32:28we may consider most earnestly the shame and the glory, the life and
- 32:31the death, the justice and the mercy that meet in the Cross. Yet
- 32:36with the utmost stretch of our mental powers we fail to grasp its full significance.
- 32:42The length and the breadth, the depth and the height of redeeming love
- 32:45are but dimly comprehended. The plan of redemption will not be fully understood even
- 32:51when the ransoms see as they are seen and know as they are known.
- 32:54But through the eternal ages, new truth will continually unfold to the wondering and
- 32:59delay delighted mind. Though the griefs and pains and temptations of earth are ended
- 33:05and the cause removed, the people of God will ever have a distinct,
- 33:07intelligent knowledge of what their salvation has cost. The cross of Christ will be
- 33:14the science and the song of the Redeemed through all eternity. In Christ glorified,
- 33:19they will behold Christ crucified. Never will it be forgotten that he whose
- 33:23power created and upheld the unnumbered worlds through the vast realms of space, the
- 33:28Beloved of God, the majesty of Heaven, He whom cherub and shining seraph
- 33:32delighted to adore, humbled himself to uplift fallen man, that he bore the
- 33:37guilt and shame of sin, and the hiding of his Father's face, till
- 33:43the woes of a lost world broke his heart and crushed out his life on
- 33:45Calvary's Cross, that the maker of all worlds, the arbiter of all destinies,
- 33:52should lay aside his glory and humiliate himself. From love to man will
- 33:57ever excite the wonder and adoration of the universe, as the nations of the
- 34:01saved look upon their Redeemer and behold the eternal glory of the Father shining in
- 34:06his countenance, as they behold his throne, which is from everlasting to everlasting,
- 34:12and know that his kingdom is to have no end. They break forth
- 34:15in rapturous song. Worthy. Worthy is the lamb that was slain and hath
- 34:20redeemed us to God by his own most precious blood. The mystery of the
- 34:24Cross explains all other mysteries. In the light that streams from Calvary, the
- 34:30attributes of God, which had filled us with fear and awe, appear beautiful
- 34:34and attractive. Mercy, tenderness, and parental love are seen to blend with
- 34:38holiness, justice, and power. While we behold the majesty of his throne
- 34:44high and lifted up, we see his character in its gracious manifestations, and
- 34:49comprehend us never before the significance of that endearing title, our Father. It
- 34:55will be seen that He who is infinite in wisdom, could devise no plan
- 34:59for for our salvation except the sacrifice of his son. The compensation for this
- 35:05sacrifice is the joy of peopling the earth with ransomed beings wholly happy and immortal.
- 35:12The result of the Saviour's conflict with the powers of darkness is joy to
- 35:15the Redeemed, redounding to the glory of God throughout eternity, and such is
- 35:21the value of the soul. That the Father is satisfied with the price paid,
- 35:24and Christ himself beholding the fruits of his great sacrifice, is satisfied.
