- 2:36And we have a great show lined up for you.
- 2:38But first, yes, ladies and gentlemen, I celebrated my
- 2:41birthday over the last two days. My sister came out on my
- 2:45birthday. I got a chance to see my one
- 2:47year old niece, my 21 year old niece and my 12 year old nephew
- 2:52got to hang out with them, had a little birthday cake and you
- 2:55know, off they went. And then last night I actually
- 2:58went to dinner. It was a great dinner.
- 3:00I thought it was, but we went to Teller's, a steakhouse.
- 3:03It was delicious and I got myself a nice beautiful bottle
- 3:07of Saint I, I, I forget what it's called, but it's it's
- 3:11$150.00 bottle of Cologne. I love Cologne.
- 3:13I collect Cologne. I collect everything it I
- 3:16collect watches, never wear them.
- 3:18If you if you ever watch a show you never see me with a nice
- 3:21watch even though I have a ton of them.
- 3:23Did you order chicken fingers or did you actually get steak?
- 3:26I, I actually had steak. I actually, if you're going to a
- 3:29steak house, you're going to eat steak.
- 3:31And I do have steak. You never know.
- 3:33No, I love steak. I I actually enjoy steak.
- 3:36I had myself a rib eye. I love those rib eyes.
- 3:39They're thick, they're juicy. And I had a chance to, you know,
- 3:43have the nice mashed potatoes. How little it?
- 3:46What was this goes? You get it.
- 3:47Well done. I did.
- 3:49I do I get it well done? I do.
- 3:51I get my steak well done. Why wouldn't I?
- 3:54What is? You want boot leather?
- 3:56No, I get it well done, medium, medium well, OK, it's it's
- 4:00medium well, but I don't like it like red or any of that stuff.
- 4:04That's not my thing. You know it's not blood though,
- 4:07right? No, I know that, but I just
- 4:08don't like it Red I I get sick. I've been sick, I've gone to
- 4:13steak houses and I've tried it Red.
- 4:15My father was a carnivore. He would never he he barely even
- 4:19cook the steak and he eat it like that.
- 4:22I was like, that was. Called.
- 4:23That's called black and blue. No, that's called sick, and
- 4:26that's called a vampire or something sucking out that.
- 4:29Carpaccio is basically just raw. Meat, even though raw meat I.
- 4:34Just made rib eyes the other day in filets and it's got to be
- 4:37medium rare. I have a medium rare I eat that
- 4:41sometimes I eat them that sometimes I.
- 4:43Usually say that if you go to a steakhouse and most of the time
- 4:46it comes out medium. But that's why you always say
- 4:48medium rare, because. I'll eat it.
- 4:50I'm usually a medium well type of guy, but I'll eat it medium
- 4:54rare. It it depends, but I I don't
- 4:56really like the red. I every time I have it red or I
- 5:00I've gone to a nice steakhouse. I went to Virginia one time and
- 5:04we went to a steakhouse and it was actually pretty good.
- 5:07I forget what it was called, but it was in the city of Virginia
- 5:10and I got it medium well. I mean read it medium rare and
- 5:13it wasn't it got me sick. I actually was throwing up all
- 5:17night. So I don't, I don't usually eat
- 5:19it medium rare. I try to stay away from that.
- 5:21But nevertheless, maybe it was a bad piece of meat.
- 5:24I don't know, but this game, this New York Knick game is
- 5:27going to make me sick. And I have, I have a bad feeling
- 5:30that they're going to go to a Game 7 in New York and we will
- 5:33get into that a little bit later in the show because you know, a
- 5:36lot to get into with the NBA craziness going on in the NBAI
- 5:40finished my birthday. No, everybody says they spend a
- 5:43week on their birthday. I will celebrate my birthday
- 5:46once again May 17th as we head to Mohican Sun and all my
- 5:50friends will come out or some of my friends will come out because
- 5:52a lot of my friends live all all over the country so I'm not
- 5:55going to really experience all the.
- 5:57Crazy. Did you see what James said?
- 5:58He said Earl. I loved Tellers and he didn't
- 6:01give him an invite. Wow, I'm.
- 6:03Sorry, James. I would apologize to James, but
- 6:07I actually there was somebody that didn't like the steak, so
- 6:12I'm just speaking the truth. As she said, she will never go
- 6:16to tellers again. So I just, yeah, she will never
- 6:19go to tellers again. She's a picky picky person when
- 6:21it comes to steak and how it gets kicked to the bream and
- 6:25heavy taste and doesn't taste burnt as she was saying so.
- 6:30It's going to taste burn if it's well done.
- 6:32Yeah, well, she didn't want it well done, but they, they, they
- 6:35messed up on it. But nevertheless, I told her to
- 6:38eat it. It's a piece of steak.
- 6:40And then she didn't like the, I forget what they have this
- 6:43special sauce. It had like a horseradish taste
- 6:46to it. I liked it.
- 6:47It was it made it even more juicy.
- 6:49The one thing she liked was the bread, the bread and the garlic
- 6:52butter. That was delicious.
- 6:54But besides that, she didn't really like the mashed potatoes.
- 6:58She was questioning. We actually had something taken
- 7:01back. But I don't want to put tellers
- 7:02down where people are going to be like, I'm never going to tell
- 7:05her. So I don't want to say anything.
- 7:07I liked my food. She did not.
- 7:09That's just my. Are you a bit like when you have
- 7:11your birthday dinner? Like we took Carter out for his
- 7:13birthday with some of his teammates.
- 7:16Sometimes I like it cuz you get a talk but sometimes my butt
- 7:19goes numb because you sit too long.
- 7:21I, I did, I thought it was very comfortable there, but you know
- 7:25what it is, is they, they sell the, the arrangement and, and
- 7:29where you're sitting and it looks like Italian and like,
- 7:31like you're in a nice Italian yard.
- 7:34But honestly, it looks like a weird warehouse painted like an
- 7:39Italian, you know, Italian place.
- 7:41I, I didn't, I didn't feel comfortable and was really,
- 7:43really, I never called in a restaurant.
- 7:46It was freezing. It was absolutely freezing in
- 7:49the restaurant. So you're, I don't know why
- 7:51they're blasting the, the air conditioning when everybody was
- 7:54like dressed in shorts or nice shirts.
- 7:57And, and, and that was another thing.
- 7:59I went in shirt and a shirt and a polo.
- 8:02I went to, I went there in a polo, short shirt and a shorts,
- 8:06shorts on. We didn't realize how dressy you
- 8:08had to be at tellers. So we walked right in and they
- 8:11told me to take my hat off. I was wearing a hat.
- 8:13They told me not to wear a hat in the restaurant.
- 8:15So I took my hat off. My hair was a mess.
- 8:18We didn't have to worry about that at Carters birthday.
- 8:20It was, it was at a Mexican spot that yeah, all the.
- 8:23Time I didn't get it. One of his buddies did get steak
- 8:26and shrimp though. The others got just all kind of
- 8:28whatever, but we got a good time at his birthday party.
- 8:32My birthday will be celebrated May 17th Fish is going to come
- 8:35out Speedy will come out you're invited with your wife or your
- 8:38your fiance. If you guys want to come out
- 8:40tomorrow weekend sun in Connecticut it's it's going to
- 8:42be fun it always is and I get drunk I don't really drink so
- 8:45I'll be dancing on bars or doing something stupid.
- 8:48Hopefully I don't get arrested, but you know, obviously I was
- 8:52wrong about the Lakers. Ladies and gentlemen, the
- 8:53Timberwolves beat the Lakers one O 3 to 96 to upset them in five
- 8:59games. Anthony Edwards took shots at
- 9:01everybody that said the Lakers would win in five games and said
- 9:05proving the haters wrong made the win feel 10 times better.
- 9:09Anthony Edwards also called out Rudy Gobert, a dragon, after
- 9:14having 27 points and 24 rebounds in game #5 game number fives
- 9:20win, ESP NS Brian Windhorst called JJ Reddick saying he
- 9:24coached very immaturely in the series.
- 9:28Not surprised. Luka Doncic also suffered a back
- 9:30injury during game five, and reports say he was cleared to
- 9:36come back early earlier in the game but didn't come until the
- 9:40midway point through the third quarter.
- 9:43LeBron James told ESPN that he is uncertain about his future
- 9:48despite his son Bronie still being a Laker.
- 9:51LeBron has two years remaining on his contract, worth about 60
- 9:55million per year with I'm sorry, with an option in 2027 and 2028.
- 10:02Let me tell you guys something. Lebron's going nowhere.
- 10:05He is going nowhere. I know this is what he likes to
- 10:09do. He's done this before.
- 10:11He was at the ESPY Awards with his family, as his family said
- 10:14he was the greatest basketball player to ever play the game.
- 10:17And everybody forgets what Michael Jordan was and what he
- 10:20created for LeBron James and Kobe Bryant and all the greats
- 10:24as everybody compared are really compared to Michael Jordan.
- 10:28The fact here is LeBron James is out for himself.
- 10:31We all know what LeBron James likes to do.
- 10:34He likes to be the center of attention.
- 10:35He goes up there at the press conference.
- 10:37He says his peace and then he says I'm unsure about my future.
- 10:42He absolutely is sure about his future.
- 10:44The only reason why they made that move for a guy like Luka
- 10:47Doncic was to give LeBron James a chance to add another
- 10:51superstar and go on another run, maybe to for one or maybe even 2
- 10:56championships. The fact is they just didn't
- 10:58show up in that series. I think Luka Doncic wasn't 100%
- 11:01healthy in the series. You can see it in his game.
- 11:04This is a guy that averages over 33 points a game and seven
- 11:08rebounds in about 8 in practically every single playoff
- 11:11game of his career. And throughout this series, he
- 11:14just wasn't really up the par. Now, obviously, JJ Redick is a
- 11:18different coach. This is a different team than
- 11:20the Dallas Mavericks. All the offense in Dallas ran
- 11:23through him. In this offense, it ran through
- 11:27LeBron and Luca Doncic and again, Luke has got to figure
- 11:31out who he is, what is his identity with the Lakers, I was
- 11:34very surprised they lost in five games.
- 11:37If they were going to lose, I thought it was going to
- 11:39definitely be in seven games. But again, we all understand who
- 11:43Anthony Edwards is. He calls himself the truth.
- 11:45We understand how talented he is.
- 11:47He's a superstar player. He doesn't want to be the face
- 11:50of the NBA, as he's come out and said, but he is one of the faces
- 11:54of Team USA Basketball. We understand the talent he is.
- 11:58Some people compare his skill to a Michael Jordan.
- 12:00I don't know if you can actually compare him to Michael Jordan,
- 12:04but his acrobatics and what he does on a basketball court is
- 12:07sensational. He's fun to watch.
- 12:08Rudy Gobert. This could have been his best
- 12:11game of his career, I don't think.
- 12:13You can be hands down without a doubt.
- 12:15Yeah, I I've never seen Rudy Gobert put up the numbers in in
- 12:19a playoff game, 27 points and 24 rebounds.
- 12:21Now I've seen him put up kind of these numbers in a regular
- 12:25season. But again, subpar teams.
- 12:27When you're playing a Lakers team that made it to the
- 12:30playoffs, we're a number three seed and we're one of the best
- 12:33teams in the Western Conference all season.
- 12:35To put up those kind of numbers the way he did was very
- 12:38impressive. Now is he going to do it in the
- 12:39next series? Who who knows?
- 12:41The question is, is this the is this team different than they
- 12:46were last year? They obviously had Carl Anthony
- 12:48Downs. Now they have a little bit more
- 12:50depth. I would say with Julius Randall
- 12:52and Dante Diva Censo Dante's actually playing pretty good
- 12:56basketball over the last couple of weeks and throughout this
- 12:58playoff series, he's been pretty good off the bench.
- 13:01He's added a a little bit of spice and that's something that
- 13:04the Knicks are missing in this series.
- 13:07They need that spice. They need that shooting type.
- 13:10A guy that is really has that cold, you know, that cold stuff
- 13:14going through his veins. I say cold stuff because I could
- 13:16say hot stuff and you know, Speedy might be thinking of
- 13:18something else, but I honestly believe that the Lakers need to
- 13:23figure things out in the offseason.
- 13:25I don't believe LeBron James is retiring, but they need that
- 13:28other guy. They need a third type of player
- 13:31that's going to give you about 1718 points off the bench if
- 13:34need be, or maybe a starter that can play with Luca and and run
- 13:39the offense through Luka Doncic with LeBron James.
- 13:42You don't think that's Austin Reeves?
- 13:44I'm sorry, No, no, no, no. I think Austin Reeves is going
- 13:47to get traded. I think he's going to be a trade
- 13:48piece. A lot of teams like Austin
- 13:51Reeves. I know that the Knicks were very
- 13:53interested in Austin Reeves last season and even after trade
- 13:56deadline, there were stories coming out that the Knicks were
- 13:58trying to make a move with the Lakers.
- 14:00But I think that will happen in the offseason.
- 14:02There are quite a few teams I have heard that Giannis might
- 14:05become available now that they lost.
- 14:07And I'm not saying Giannis is going to the Lakers because
- 14:09they're going to have to give up a lot and they're going to have
- 14:12to. He's going to have to opt out of
- 14:13his contract and take less to go to the Lakers.
- 14:16I think there are quite a few other teams that might be
- 14:19interested and a guy like Yannis, but the Lakers need to
- 14:22find the other guy. And LeBron James is definitely
- 14:24not going to retire because he doesn't want to retire.
- 14:27At least with 11 championship off of Kobe and two
- 14:32championships off of Michael Jordan.
- 14:35He wants to be compared to Kobe or even Michael Jordan.
- 14:38He has to win a total of 5 or 6 championships to be compared to
- 14:43any one of those guys. Now, he is not Michael Jordan.
- 14:45There's no question that he isn't.
- 14:47But I think LeBron believes that he has something left in him.
- 14:50I don't think he can play the defense he once could, but I
- 14:53still think he can give you that 2425 points.
- 14:56He's going to give you that 7 to 6 rebounds and and maybe 8, you
- 15:00know, 8 assists if he actually plays the point.
- 15:03So there's a lot of questions for the Lakers and what do they
- 15:06do with JJ Reddick? Do they bring JJ Reddick back?
- 15:09I know everybody sits here and says says well, JJ Reddick had a
- 15:11great season. But when they when it came down
- 15:13to the nitty and the gritty in the playoffs, JJ Reddick didn't
- 15:16call the right time out. He couldn't he couldn't match up
- 15:21his team against the Timberwolves teams, Timberwolves
- 15:24team that wasn't as good all season long as they were last
- 15:28year. This is a Timberwolves team that
- 15:30went all the way to the Western Conference finals.
- 15:32They beat the champion, the Nuggets last year and a lot of
- 15:34people thought they were going to knock off Dallas.
- 15:36And then Luca obviously matched up so very well against the
- 15:40Anthony Davis, Anthony Edwards. Last year you would have thought
- 15:43that this would have been a back and forth series against Anthony
- 15:47Edwards and it wasn't even close.
- 15:48The best player on the court throughout this series was no
- 15:51other than Anthony Edwards. The question is, is this
- 15:54Timberwolves team good enough to go all the way through the
- 15:59Western Conference? As we've seen the Nuggets, the
- 16:01Clippers are still fighting to get through the next round and
- 16:04then the Golden State Warriors in OK C.
- 16:06And right now, whoever wins, and if I'm not mistaken, whoever
- 16:10wins this Golden State Rocket series would be playing the
- 16:13Timberwolves and then the Timberwolves.
- 16:15And I think this might be the easiest, you know, the position
- 16:18we've seen the Timberwolves go all the way to the Western
- 16:21Conference because I think they're better than the Rockets
- 16:23and they're better than the Golden State Warriors.
- 16:25Jimmy Buckets is not 100% healthy.
- 16:28And I think right now the Timberwolves are playing their
- 16:30best basketball. They're the healthiest they've
- 16:32ever been throughout the season and they can make a run.
- 16:35I as a matter of fact, I wouldn't even be surprised if
- 16:38the Timberwolves go all the way to the finals this coming this
- 16:41year because I just think the matchups, the way it's matched
- 16:44up for them throughout the playoffs, who they have to go
- 16:48through. OK CI don't think the Clippers,
- 16:50I don't think the Nuggets are going to beat OK C as what we've
- 16:53seen so far in the playoffs. I do believe the Timberwolves
- 16:57match up very, very well against OK C with the athletic ability.
- 17:00And what if Anthony Edwards can do what he did against the
- 17:03Lakers and Rudy Gobert can give you the numbers that he was
- 17:06giving you in the series? Why not?
- 17:07Why couldn't they beat the OK C Thunder?
- 17:10So it's a lot of questions. I love what I see with Anthony
- 17:13Edwards and even after the game, his personality and he is so
- 17:17wrong on what people said about this team and himself throughout
- 17:23the season. Remember, they were a six seed
- 17:25last year. I think if I'm not mistaken,
- 17:27there were a third seed in the playoffs.
- 17:28So they didn't like the way they were mistreated and what the way
- 17:32everybody thought that the Lakers like yours truly, we're
- 17:35going to pulverize them in this series.
- 17:37So congratulations to the Denver Wolves.
- 17:39It was a fun series to watch, for them at least.
- 17:42We talked about it at the trade deadline to the Lakers question
- 17:45with their size and Rudy Gobert. Definitely they exposed that in
- 17:48this game and it kind of took them a while to get that
- 17:50adjusted because Anthony Edwards was playing so well.
- 17:52So you're like, why are you going to go off the hot hand
- 17:54type thing? But then the Lakers started to
- 17:56take away Anthony. Where's the Rudy Gobert went
- 17:57off? And I think that's what Brian
- 17:58Windhorse was getting. At.
- 18:00When he was saying that JJ Redick never adjusted to
- 18:03anything like that. 27 and 24 is unheard of numbers for any era
- 18:08of basketball. Maybe besides the 1960s.
- 18:10Where? There and Yokich players, we've
- 18:12seen Yokich do this. Yokich is the exception to every
- 18:14rule right now with the records he's putting up in the modern
- 18:16era. But nevertheless, like that,
- 18:18that was a concern for their size.
- 18:19And that's why I think you were re dangling the Reeves for
- 18:21Robinson rumorship with the Knicks because the Lakers knew
- 18:23they needed some extra size after training Anthony Davis.
- 18:26Now obviously that doesn't justify how much they fleece to
- 18:28The Mavericks and Nico Harris and all The Mavericks fan
- 18:30shouldn't just be gloating about the Lakers losing either just
- 18:32because just because they lost doesn't make the trade any worse
- 18:35than it was. But nevertheless, the Lakers,
- 18:38they're going to need another depth piece in the offseason
- 18:40because they definitely need. More Why is Nico Harrison even
- 18:43speaking? I don't know.
- 18:44Why is he bringing it up? They they didn't even make the
- 18:46playoffs. Why are they they didn't even
- 18:48make the the round of what? The round of eight for the
- 18:51Western Conference? Yeah, they won't.
- 18:53He's trying to see why A So it makes it, it, it justifies the
- 18:57trade. Nice try they would have had to
- 18:59I. Don't think you can ever justify
- 19:01what they just did. They will never be able to do
- 19:03that until they make it to to the point that they made it last
- 19:06year, which was to the NBA Finals, because otherwise you're
- 19:09ever going to, you're never going to say that.
- 19:10Yeah, OK. You want to, you want to take a
- 19:12little credit with the Luka Doncic conditioning thing, OK.
- 19:14But again, you brought in Anthony Davis, who got hurt in
- 19:17your first game. So now who?
- 19:18Doesn't want to be there. Bother.
- 19:19Nevertheless isn't about the batteries, about the Lakers and
- 19:21going back to the Minnesota Timberwolves, though.
- 19:23And let's give them some props too, because I was talking about
- 19:25it with Dante Di Vincenzo and Julius Randall, the bringing of
- 19:28the Romans. And we we talked about how bad
- 19:30Randall's been in the playoffs in the past.
- 19:32He actually played well in the season.
- 19:33Play a lot more efficiently, kind of taking a mid range
- 19:37shooting type role. He's not shooting as much any as
- 19:40many threes and D Vincenzo is really just playing as a
- 19:42specialist. I think they were adhering to
- 19:43that well and their coaching staff and Anthony Edwards is our
- 19:45credit for that so. He's he's been unbelievable.
- 19:48He really has. Been I think both of them kind
- 19:50of figured out like where their lane was and and how it fit with
- 19:54that team. And I mean, obviously Rudy Gaber
- 19:58go doing what he did was was was crazy.
- 20:01And we we've seen what Ant's going to do.
- 20:04And yeah, you don't want to be the face, but.
- 20:06It's sometimes you are kind of not like you can say you don't
- 20:11want to be the face, but you happen to be it just because his
- 20:15personality and the things that he can do on the court.
- 20:18And I love watching him and his interviews are great.
- 20:22Like when he was walking out, Oh, they said Lakers, blah,
- 20:25blah, blah. And then he's just laughing and
- 20:26just walking out like a normal dude.
- 20:28And, you know, it's just, it's one of those things where he
- 20:34doesn't really have a choice because it's going to kind of
- 20:36happen. It's it's how he embraces it and
- 20:39what he wants to do with it. He can say he's not the face,
- 20:42which is fine. I mean, it's kind of the same
- 20:44thing that Mike Trout did in baseball.
- 20:46Like, I don't want to be the face, but you're still talking.
- 20:49You're still at the forefront of everything.
- 20:50You know what bothers me, Jabba? I'm watching Carl Anthony Towns
- 20:53in the playoffs with the New York Knicks and this Carl
- 20:56Anthony Towns, who's a sensational player, and we were
- 20:58so happy that we thought we fleeced the Timberwolves.
- 21:02We're watching Karl Anthony Towns in this series.
- 21:04He hasn't been that good. I mean, he's been up and down in
- 21:07this series. He had one good game, one bad
- 21:09game, one good game and all bad games.
- 21:11I mean, he hasn't played up to par what we expect a Karl
- 21:15Anthony Towns to play. He wanted to go to New York.
- 21:18And then you look at Julius Randle.
- 21:20Julius Randle's playing well for the Timberwolves as they almost
- 21:23swept the Lakers. And then you have Dante Diva
- 21:25Chanzo. We've seen what Dante Diva
- 21:27Chanzo and the Knicks in the fight in the preseason and then
- 21:31obviously what it took took Dante Divacenso to figure things
- 21:33out in the second-half of the season.
- 21:35And now that he's figured it out, he's been an important
- 21:37piece right now for the Timberwolves.
- 21:40Wouldn't it be fitting to watch the Timberwolves go all the way
- 21:43to the Finals and win a championship with Randall and
- 21:45Dante Divacenso and the Knicks get knocked out by the Detroit
- 21:48Pistons? It makes me sick to my stomach
- 21:50and and it has a lot to do with Carl Anthony Towns.
- 21:53And it really, really bothers me when I watch Carl Anthony Towns
- 21:56play and he lays up a lousy goose egg in a game that he
- 22:00should have taken over. When, when your best player is
- 22:03not playing well and Julius and Jalen Brunson and you have a
- 22:06chance to take over a game. And the same thing happened with
- 22:09the Timberwolves last year when Anthony Edwards wasn't playing
- 22:12well. You would, you would expect that
- 22:14Karl Anthony Towns would take over for the team and, and, and
- 22:17shoot more of those threes and really dominate the boards.
- 22:20Well, Karl Anthony talents did not do that.
- 22:23And that's why they lost against the Dallas Mavericks.
- 22:25And I, I could see why where, where you look at Karl Anthony
- 22:29talents, the talent that he has, the athletic ability as a big
- 22:32man, you could see how he disappears in the big game.
- 22:36And it bothers me because that's what we saw in Julius Randall.
- 22:38And that's why we were so happy. And I know Fish would agree with
- 22:41me. That's why we were so happy
- 22:43while when the Knicks landed a Karl Anthony Towns.
- 22:45It just, it's just so fitting that you watch the New York
- 22:49Knicks play and you watch Karl Anthony Towns play in big games
- 22:52and not produce. And then you watch Julius
- 22:55Randall put up the numbers he's putting up and Dante Divichenzo
- 22:58being a specialist and really at some points in the Lakers series
- 23:02just was absolutely dominating shooting the three.
- 23:05So it's just, it's, and the Knicks problem this year was
- 23:09shooting the three and they traded, they had to trade Dante
- 23:12Diva Chancel. I, I know a lot of Knick fans
- 23:15were not happy when the Knicks added Dante Diva Chancel.
- 23:18You have to give a little bit or you have to give a lot to get a
- 23:20great player. I put you, it's very fitting.
- 23:23Why why you watch a team like the Timberwolves play the way
- 23:26they did in that series and knock off Luka Dantic and LeBron
- 23:29James and and not have Karl Anthony Towns and watch Karl
- 23:33Anthony Towns getting their get get their butts whipped against
- 23:36a young Detroit Pistons team, which by the way has been out
- 23:40rebounding Karl Anthony Towns all series long.
- 23:44It makes me sick. And and let's get into the
- 23:46Pistons in Knicks series. The Pistons beat the Knicks one
- 23:49O 6 to one O 3. Absolutely horrible to stay
- 23:52alive in the series, which is now 3 to 2, which is on live
- 23:55right now on MSG or actually TNT.
- 23:59The Knicks where without Jaylen Bronson and Josh Hart in the
- 24:03final minutes of the game after both suffered injuries.
- 24:06Through five games, the Pistons have 153 points off the bench
- 24:11while the Knicks have 63, second least among playoff teams.
- 24:15Tom Thibodeau said the Knicks do not need any significant lineup
- 24:20or rotation changes, but just to play with more intensity.
- 24:25What a crocky. You know what, I got to say
- 24:27something. Tom Thibodeau loses his series.
- 24:30If Tom Thibodeau doesn't win one or two games against the Celtics
- 24:34and don't give the Celtics a challenge if they get through
- 24:37this Piston series, he should be absolutely gone.
- 24:40I don't know why any Knick fans think that this is OK.
- 24:44Tom Thibodeau not calling a time out.
- 24:46I don't care if he had one time out.
- 24:47You had two minutes left and you want to get your two best
- 24:50players in the game and you didn't get a chance to bring
- 24:53them in until what, 30 seconds left of the game?
- 24:56That's not good enough. And this New York Knick team had
- 24:59a chance to win that game. It wasn't Kate, it wasn't the
- 25:02Kate Cunningham show. It was everybody else that was
- 25:05dominating the Knicks. And to me, I didn't.
- 25:08See. Did they have a?
- 25:09Did they have no timeout? They had a timeout, they had one
- 25:12timeout. They could have called the
- 25:13timeout and and and that's the problem.
- 25:15They were trying. And if you know that your best
- 25:17players aren't in, then foul. You need to get Jalen Brunson in
- 25:21the game. Get somebody that is is not in
- 25:23foul trouble and just. But obviously, they have to go
- 25:26to the free throw line. And, and here's the thing, the
- 25:28Knicks couldn't have, couldn't hit a free throw in that game if
- 25:32their life depended on either, could they?
- 25:34The Detroit Pistons, Thompson missed like four or five free
- 25:38throws until he hit one. It was embarrassing.
- 25:40That game was an embarrassment. And the New York Knicks had a
- 25:43chance to end them in Madison Square Garden.
- 25:47It's just I don't understand Tom Thibodeau.
- 25:50I don't understand his reactions after the game telling me that
- 25:53there shouldn't be any rotation changes.
- 25:55What, are you kidding me? First of all, and I'll say this
- 25:59again, why is it Mitchell Robertson on the court with
- 26:03their best players, OG and Anobi Karl, Anthony Towns and and
- 26:07Jaylen Brunson? Why don't you rotate Mikhail
- 26:09Bridges here and there? Why don't you rotate Josh Hart
- 26:12off the bench, try to give them more depth off the bench.
- 26:16And McBride has been absolutely horrible in this series.
- 26:19He couldn't hit a shot if his his life depended on it.
- 26:22The watching the Knicks does give you Ajita.
- 26:24This is a Detroit Piston team that's very, very young.
- 26:28And again, they're still trying to figure things out with a
- 26:31coach that's been there for how long?
- 26:32One year? I mean, they're still trying to
- 26:35find their own identity. Kate Cunningham is a great
- 26:38player. He's sensational.
- 26:40But if the Knicks know that he is dominating them when he goes
- 26:44to the hole, why isn't OG and Anobi on the court defending
- 26:47against him? You know he's your best outside
- 26:50perimeter defender. Why isn't he defending Kate
- 26:54Cunningham the whole game? It doesn't make sense when if
- 26:58you guys remember Miami when they played Derrick Rose in the
- 27:01Chicago Bulls, Derrick Rose was the MVP.
- 27:03You guys remember that LeBron James was one of the best
- 27:06defensive players in the league and Derrick Rose was killing the
- 27:09Lakers, I'm sorry, killing the Miami Heat the first two games
- 27:13he was dominating, going to the Hall.
- 27:15You know what LeBron James decided to do?
- 27:17He decided to take everything into his own hands, and he
- 27:20defended Derrick Rose for the rest of the series.
- 27:22Do you know how many games Chicago won after that?
- 27:250 zilch. And that's what your best
- 27:28defensive players, that's what your best players are supposed
- 27:31to do, step up to the plate and knock out the best player on the
- 27:35other team. I don't understand Tom
- 27:37Thibodeau's theories and thoughts after the game.
- 27:40You see that his he's a deer in the headlights.
- 27:42I don't even think he knows how important this series is for the
- 27:46New York Knicks. And it's not even it's not even
- 27:49drawn up that they're going to play the Celtics in the next
- 27:52round because Detroit has absolutely daggered them in
- 27:56certain parts of these games. They have kept the games close.
- 27:59They've been putting pressure on their best players.
- 28:01And Jaylen Bronson, he was averaging over 30 points a game
- 28:05going into that game and then lays up a lousy goose egg.
- 28:08I don't want to hear that He's hurt.
- 28:10He don't play defense. We expect Jaylen Bronson to put
- 28:13up a 30 spot against a team that don't play defense on the
- 28:16perimeter either. Kate Cunningham is not one of
- 28:18the best offenders at his position in the league.
- 28:21He's a decent one. He's not a great one.
- 28:23And how is Schroeder knifing through the defense is the way
- 28:27he has in this series? Schroeder, he is not a great
- 28:30offensive player. He's a decent one.
- 28:33I remember when he was drafted. He's good, but he's not great.
- 28:37It doesn't make any sense. And there's no excuse to the
- 28:41team defense that we've seen all season long.
- 28:43I think Tom Thibodeau has lost his team and and this this is a
- 28:47defense. This is a team that was one of
- 28:49the best defensive teams in the league back-to-back years since
- 28:53Tom Thibodeau has taken over. What happened to this defense?
- 28:57What is going on with this team? It doesn't make any sense.
- 29:00I don't care if they were the third seed, they should have
- 29:03never finished as the number three seed because now you're
- 29:05going even if you get out of this series, you got to match up
- 29:08against the green and white. And I don't want to see the
- 29:11Knicks play the green and white the way the Celtics played
- 29:13against Orlando, who, by the way, is a much better team than
- 29:16and the Detroit Pistons. Yeah, there's I also saw a stat
- 29:19that the the three wing players for the Knicks were shooting, I
- 29:23think 9 for 57 from a corner 3 standpoint, which is also
- 29:27inexcusable. Like Jalen Bronson and Karl
- 29:29Anthony Towns have hit their share of threes, but like if
- 29:32nobody else could shoot threes, that's something that you have
- 29:34to adjust to as a coach. Next with Jalen Bronson too, if
- 29:37you know he's like playing banged up, like, why are you
- 29:39having him still like attack so much as as he is?
- 29:42Yes, he's your point guard. Yes, he's the clutch player of
- 29:44the year in the NBA. Fine.
- 29:46I'm not saying never do it, but don't wear him out so much where
- 29:49you're he's already returning from injury pretty early as it
- 29:51was at the end of the regular season.
- 29:53And then there was the other part of that too.
- 29:55If McBride is struggling as bad as he is, he still not should
- 29:58not be remaining the backup point guard.
- 29:59I know he's loyal to his ways because when Jalen Bronson got
- 30:02hurt, he said, oh, Miles McBride is going to get more minutes.
- 30:04Well, if you're not scoring, take him out of the game.
- 30:06Leave him for defensive possessions only in that case,
- 30:09you don't need him for offense. It's the same thing that
- 30:11happened in the pacer series. So Miles McBride got really cold
- 30:14and then they never recovered and when they had all those
- 30:17other injuries. And I think Thibodeau does have
- 30:19to learn to just evolve. It's not hard to get out.
- 30:21Why is McBride playing if he's not hitting a shot?
- 30:24How many point guards are right now on the bench playing for the
- 30:26Knicks? We haven't seen any of them
- 30:28because you know why? Fibs don't like to play younger
- 30:31players. Kollek should be playing.
- 30:33This is a guy that can dribble the ball, take the ball off,
- 30:36play, defend multiple positions and do a lot of things right.
- 30:40Why isn't he playing? You know why?
- 30:42Because Thibodeau doesn't like to play young players.
- 30:44It's disgraceful when your team is is not playing great all
- 30:48around basketball. You got to take chances.
- 30:50That's what you do. If you're a good coach, you take
- 30:53chances, win or lose. You could say, hey, I tried
- 30:56everything. I did what I can.
- 30:58I set up, you know, rotations that I thought would work
- 31:01against a young, more talented, you know, athletic team.
- 31:05And it's true there Detroit is much more athletic than the New
- 31:09York Knicks. They, the Knicks, are playing
- 31:10like an old team, even though they're not old.
- 31:12They're playing old, old basketball.
- 31:15That doesn't work against the that will not work against the
- 31:18Cavaliers, as we've seen what Kenny Atkinson has drawn up in
- 31:21that series. It's despicable.
- 31:24And Thibodeau has no excuses. He's the reason why they lost
- 31:27that game. And if they lose this series,
- 31:29he'll be the reason why the Knicks don't advance.
- 31:31Yep. And before you go fish, I just
- 31:33want to mention the other guys you were mentioning too.
- 31:35Because I think the I think the game plan for the first two
- 31:37games was to try to bracket Kate Cunningham and then let everyone
- 31:41else score, which is something that hurt them when they played
- 31:43Miami two years ago. And all these random guys are
- 31:45going off because Thibodeau is trying to game plan for Butler.
- 31:47And now all of a sudden you have, like you said, Dennis
- 31:49Schroeder going off of the random points, Tobias Harris
- 31:52going off on the random points, Tim Hardaway Junior going off on
- 31:55the mean random points, and. Thompson absolutely out
- 31:58rebounding Karl Anthony Town and Mitchell Robinson.
- 32:00Very well and like you said Mitchell Robinson should get
- 32:02more minutes or just play the matchups accordingly because the
- 32:04the piston size is being too much.
- 32:06Even their wings, even their small forward, power forward
- 32:09type players are taller in general than the Knicks outside
- 32:11of Ananobi because that because the Knicks are trying to play
- 32:14too many like heart at the three and stuff like that.
- 32:17It just doesn't work that way. And I don't even care about the
- 32:20position labels as much as the individual matchups.
- 32:22He's just getting out matched by a coach that he with the
- 32:25Cavaliers, they beat four games to 1-2 years ago.
- 32:27It's the same coach now you're getting out coached by him.
- 32:29I kind of disagree. I was kind of mesmerized by the
- 32:32lack of defense as you guys were talking about it going on on the
- 32:36court right now. The Knicks are up right now by
- 32:39over 10 points after the beginning of the second.
- 32:42They're doing well. The problem with the Knicks in
- 32:44that game is they shot the ball horribly.
- 32:45They were, I don't know, it was like 65% from the line speedy in
- 32:49that game. I just kept missing.
- 32:51Brunson uncharacteristically had a terrible shooting night and,
- 32:55and I think Tibbs just said to himself, you know, we play this
- 32:58game nine times, you know, 8 * 9 times out of 10, we win this
- 33:02game if we just shoot normal as opposed to how we shot that
- 33:05night. So I don't think, I think that's
- 33:06why Errol, he said he didn't want to make adjustments.
- 33:09He just thinks it was a bad shooting night.
- 33:11My problem watching the game was what are you doing not getting
- 33:16Bronson and Hart back on the floor when you had a couple of
- 33:19minutes left in the game and a time out.
- 33:21I know you want to save it, do something else.
- 33:24I mean, you don't you don't really want to intentionally
- 33:26foul when you're down with a couple of minutes left, but I
- 33:29probably would have the the result was terrible.
- 33:32Kate Cunningham is a problem guys.
- 33:34That guy can play basketball at a real you know who he reminds
- 33:38me of a little bit? Errol, this is a throwback 90s
- 33:40reference for you before he had the ankle problems.
- 33:43He looks like Grant Hill. That's this is what he looks
- 33:47like. He's he curls around, drives to
- 33:49the hoop. He has that same kind of finish
- 33:52ability, obviously very different hair, but it's it's a
- 33:57special talent that we're watching blossom before our eyes
- 34:00on this. Team You know who he reminds me
- 34:02of? He reminds me of Clyde Drexler.
- 34:04That's who we that's. Interesting.
- 34:06That's interesting. I don't know if he gets up like
- 34:08that, but it it's he's really talented.
- 34:11But his game, his game is just like Clyde Drexler.
- 34:14He likes to get into the pain. He can shoot.
- 34:16Drexler could shoot. And when he was on Portland and
- 34:19even when he went to the Rockets, he takes over games
- 34:21because he defines the perimeter.
- 34:24He completely dominates. He has a, he has a spot, his
- 34:27sweet spot. If you notice Hal Burton, when
- 34:29he goes to his left side, he sets up to get that shot.
- 34:33He loves to do that fadeaway jumper.
- 34:35He goes to the whole left, he can go to the whole right.
- 34:37And he goes up strong too, like Clyde Drexler did.
- 34:40So that's who he reminds me of. That's that's the type of game
- 34:44that he reminds me of. I can see that he and he just
- 34:47toasted us without the two of those guys in there.
- 34:49The problem for the Pistons is they also have no answer for
- 34:52Jalen Brunson, and Schroeder is not going to do it.
- 34:56They've thrown every defender at him.
- 34:58He makes shot after shot. He's going to win the Knicks
- 35:00this series like he does all the time because he's one of the
- 35:03best players in all of basketball and they're going to
- 35:05win because of him. But it's a lot uglier than we
- 35:09would like. It's a very physical Pistons
- 35:11team. They're really letting up.
- 35:13Karl Anthony Towns know he needs to step up his physicality if
- 35:17he's going to be a playoff contributor at the level that we
- 35:20need. Him, OG and Nanobi has played
- 35:21very well in this series defensively and offensively.
- 35:25Ever since he's come back from his injury, he's looked really,
- 35:28really good on the basketball court and and honestly the best
- 35:31player all around in this series is OG and Nanobi.
- 35:34He's defended multiple positions.
- 35:36And why isn't he playing Kate Cunningham?
- 35:38I don't get it. Does nobody he should be.
- 35:41He should be mirroring him the whole game.
- 35:43I don't. He doesn't.
- 35:44That's not what his dubs he. Could change that.
- 35:49He should change that. That I don't think a coach is
- 35:51going to change this point in the season unless, you know, you
- 35:54might throw a zone at him every once in a while.
- 35:55That, that that's something those guys do.
- 35:58But if his principles are, you know, you, you switch on
- 36:01everything, that's what they play.
- 36:04You know what I mean? For better or for worse, and I
- 36:06would say for worse in this series, I I agree with you.
- 36:09It's a problem. My bigger issue is the, like you
- 36:12said, McBride not ready for the moment.
- 36:15Second year in a row in the playoffs campaign.
- 36:18Not my favorite player in the NBA.
- 36:21The two of them try to share the duties when they're in as the
- 36:24backup point. Guard, I'll tell them both on
- 36:26the court at the same time what could possibly go.
- 36:27Wrong. I'll tell you this, I'll tell
- 36:30you this. They're big man Duran.
- 36:32Duran was drafted by the New York Knicks.
- 36:34He was drafted by the New York Knicks and then traded Duran to
- 36:38Detroit and they obviously got Detroit's pick, which was a part
- 36:41of the Mckell Bridges trade and, and, and, and look what Duran's
- 36:45done in this series. He's absolutely dominated.
- 36:47The I'd rather have Duran than Mitchell Robinson just for the
- 36:50health and the fact that he's a little younger but similar type
- 36:54of player as Mitch. I would say Mitch's look good in
- 36:58his minutes he's played, but he's just a backup center right
- 37:00now. He comes in for Towns when Towns
- 37:02needs his blows. They're not playing them
- 37:04together, really, and I think they're going to need a whole
- 37:07offseason to figure that out with the two of them.
- 37:09That's the. Problem.
- 37:10Oh, it's very simple. You're going what they're going
- 37:12to do, for that matter what they're going to do, and I'm
- 37:14going to tell you what the Knicks are going to do.
- 37:15They're going to use, they're going to trade Robinson, they're
- 37:18going to Trail, they're going to trade Mikhail Bridges.
- 37:20They're going to try to go after Dante Divicento in the offseason
- 37:23and bring him back here because they need perimeter shooting.
- 37:26And I, I do believe Dante wants to come back to New York.
- 37:29He is a free agent after this year.
- 37:31So that could happen. Not Julius Randall, but I could
- 37:33see Dante Divicento and I couldn't, I could believe that
- 37:37the Knicks will do whatever they can to go after Giannis
- 37:39Antonacupo if if he becomes available.
- 37:42If he what? Would you have to give up for
- 37:44him though? It's very simple.
- 37:46You would have to trade McBride. I would probably say Robertson,
- 37:50Carl Anthony Towns and somebody else.
- 37:52I'm trading towns in that. Deal.
- 37:53I absolutely will. I absolutely will.
- 37:56You're doing it to have them play together.
- 37:58You're doing. It to towns?
- 37:59No way. Who's terrible defending the
- 38:01pain? That's the problem this year.
- 38:04He can't defend the pain. At the you're going to have to
- 38:06trade Karl Anthony Towns for Giannis.
- 38:08Absolutely. 0% chance. Really, that How are they going
- 38:11to pay Karl Anthony Towns, Giannis and Jaylen Bronson and
- 38:15Miguel Bridges? Trades like that because this is
- 38:17the team. But here's here's another thing
- 38:19point card situation. They could they could sign and
- 38:21trade Miguel Bridges. Miguel Bridges is.
- 38:23He's the guy that would move. Miguel Bridges is a guy that the
- 38:27Knicks could sign and then trade him in a trade.
- 38:29But I absolutely believe you're going to have to trade Karl
- 38:32Anthony Towns, and I disagree with you.
- 38:33McBride, bridges, Mitch and a bunch of seconds and maybe a
- 38:39first down the road. Probably enough.
- 38:41I don't think so. He's also on his way out if
- 38:43that's the case, but he might not be trying to go anywhere.
- 38:46He's he's hasn't floated that. He just everyone just figures
- 38:49that he would because it's the logical thing to do at this
- 38:52point in your career when you're in like this small market for so
- 38:55long. But again, he was from the
- 38:57streets of Greece, man. Like he loves this game at a
- 39:00level that only a few do. And that's why he's.
- 39:02So I think that the Knicks, and I'll go back to what you were
- 39:05saying, if the Knicks bring in Giannis, I trade Karl Anthony
- 39:08Towns, I trade McHale Bridges and try to go after Devin
- 39:11Booker. Devin Booker will become
- 39:13available in the offseason. There are stories coming out
- 39:15that that the Phoenix Suns will be interested in trading him
- 39:20because I do believe Kevin Durant is opting, opting out of
- 39:22the contract. And what are you going to have?
- 39:24You can have Bradley Beal and Kevin and Devin Booker there.
- 39:26That's not going to happen. Devin Booker will become a
- 39:28available and we all know Leon Rose, it was his agent before he
- 39:32decided to take over the New York Knicks job.
- 39:34So Devin Booker could be in addition to the New York Knicks
- 39:37and so could a Giannis antenna. Kupo.
- 39:40I think that would make more sense than keeping Karl Anthony
- 39:43Towns there and playing with Giannis.
- 39:44It doesn't make any sense. I don't see that.
- 39:46I think that makes a lot of sense.
- 39:48I don't compliment each other very well.
- 39:50One's an inside guy, one's an outside guy.
- 39:52Carl Anthony Towns. Carl Anthony Towns doesn't not
- 39:55play better, does not play well with another big man on the
- 39:58court. Go ask Rudy Gobert, OK?
- 40:01Like he was not very different. It doesn't matter.
- 40:04Rudy Gobert and Yannis. Yannis is a point.
- 40:07How are they? Well, hold on one a second.
- 40:09Yannis is a good defender, right?
- 40:10That's what he is. He's a good defender.
- 40:12He's a good defender. Which he's so mobile and he
- 40:16covers up for so much around the rim if they and.
- 40:18So does Rui Gobert. He was defensive player of the
- 40:20year twice. I I understand.
- 40:22So is he. But it's on the offense.
- 40:24I disagree with you. Gobert is a 0.
- 40:27Karl Anthony Towns has not played well with a big man
- 40:30playing beside him and I do not believe it.
- 40:32It's too many big men on the court taking up too much room.
- 40:36It doesn't make any sense. It doesn't.
- 40:38They compliment each other. If you're going to do it, those
- 40:41are the two guys to do it with. It is a really hard thing to do
- 40:442 centers. Very few teams have ever been
- 40:46successful with it in the modern era.
- 40:48I mean I can't even think of one since until you unless you go
- 40:50back to like the 80s with like Elijah.
- 40:53One and Tim Duncan and David Robinson.
- 40:55Duncan and Robinson is the last one.
- 40:58That was 99 two thousand. But that's but that's when they
- 41:00were true centers. That's like now.
- 41:03When there wasn't 5 out sets. Every time Duncan was a four and
- 41:07David Robinson was a five. It was.
- 41:09And I Duncan did play 5, but he was more known as a four.
- 41:13Yeah, he was more of a four. But if I go back and I, I really
- 41:17think about it, Bynum and and Shaquille O'Neal, I think they
- 41:20played together. They were pretty good together
- 41:22at one point. They were good.
- 41:24I don't. Think they ever crossed paths?
- 41:25I think they were. I think Bynum and Shaquille did
- 41:27play speedy. Look that up.
- 41:28I'm pretty sure Jack. Went to the Heat at that point
- 41:32and then they drafted. I'm pretty sure I'm pretty sure
- 41:36Bynum maybe. OK, maybe it was what's his name
- 41:39again? Who played from came from
- 41:41Memphis. Who's a big man who came from
- 41:44Memphis BD You should know this Mr. I know everything.
- 41:50Who's Kobe's good friend? He was the I forget it's all
- 41:53yes. Good, Saul.
- 41:55Yeah, he was. Bynum was drafted in O5 the year
- 41:58that. So it was.
- 41:58It was Gasol and Bynum. They played together and they
- 42:01played very, very well. Together.
- 42:03Yeah. Yeah, that's probably it.
- 42:04That's probably the last one. I I could go back if I think
- 42:08about it, I could probably think of something else, but.
- 42:10Or last notable. One, yes, but if you really,
- 42:13really think about it, you can. There are teams that it has
- 42:15worked with. I just think you don't do so
- 42:18many moves like this. If you're the Knicks, you don't
- 42:21keep doing all this unsettling of the of the locker room.
- 42:24You don't trade friends. You already traded one.
- 42:27You're not going to get away with trading 2.
- 42:29It's just not a good culture builder, unlike my fantasy
- 42:32teams. You know that if you play like
- 42:33Madden and like NBA2K, they actually have like a chemistry
- 42:37thing that doesn't let you make trades like this frequently
- 42:40every year or something. I and I always turn it off
- 42:43because like you want to make your team stacked and everything
- 42:46and I don't think you can do that in real life.
- 42:48And I don't think the Knicks should do that.
- 42:49I think they need to look around the edges.
- 42:51I would improve McBride. I've this is 2 years in a row
- 42:55where I'm not impressed with him in the playoffs.
- 42:57He's still young. Maybe you give him another shot,
- 42:59but I would try to improve there.
- 43:00He's he's got a very good contract.
- 43:04I think he's making 12 million a year.
- 43:05So the Knicks could absolutely move that.
- 43:08Actually he's not making. He's making 3,000,000 a year.
- 43:10He just signed, I think it was three years, 12 million or
- 43:13something like that, a 4 million, but he's not making a
- 43:16lot of money. I would trade McGraw.
- 43:17Is the guy I want. That's why I think that if if
- 43:21this team does not beat the, if they get through Detroit and
- 43:25they play the Celtics and they can't beat or make even
- 43:27challenge the Celtics in that series, you're going to have to
- 43:30move Karl Anthony Towns. You're going to have to move
- 43:33McHale Bridges. I think you have to rebuild this
- 43:36team from the inside out. Now, that doesn't mean that you
- 43:39have to get rid of Josh Hart or you don't have you have to get
- 43:42rid of Jaylen Bronson, but you need more defense.
- 43:44OG and Anobi stays there. I think you need more defense.
- 43:47You had a Giannis, you had a guy a shoot like a shooter like
- 43:50Devin Booker. I would go that route and bring
- 43:52in it. Dante Diva Chenzo back.
- 43:54I think that makes more sense. I don't know if the Knicks are
- 43:56going to do that, but the Knicks need more depth.
- 43:59They don't have depth and it's been a big problem throughout
- 44:03the season and they depend too much on Jaylen Bronson and Carl
- 44:06Anthony Towns and when they're both not playing, they can't
- 44:09score. It's been a big problem.
- 44:11Mikhail Bridges, who I love, I actually love Mikhail Bridges.
- 44:15He just hasn't had a good season with the Knicks this year.
- 44:17Maybe he needs to figure things out, maybe a full year and an
- 44:20offseason with the Knicks. Because you remember he was
- 44:23traded to the Knicks before preseason, just about when
- 44:26preseason was about to start. So really didn't get any time to
- 44:29practice with some of these guys.
- 44:31He did go on a couple of podcasts, including, you know,
- 44:33what do they call their show? I don't remember what Jalen
- 44:36Brunson calls the show. The guys, roommates.
- 44:38Roommates. That's what I was about to say,
- 44:40the guys next door, but whatever.
- 44:42But oh, hey, now, yeah, who knows, but they might be.
- 44:45I, I, I would, I would actually predict that Josh Hart is the
- 44:48guy next door. But nevertheless, I, I do
- 44:51believe that Karl Anthony Towns does not play play well with
- 44:55another big man. And I think that the Knicks are
- 44:57going to have to decide very carefully in the offseason if
- 45:01Karl Anthony Towns is a long term guy.
- 45:04Remember, he's 30 years old. He's going to be 31 next year.
- 45:06If you're going to bring a Giannis who's going to be 32, I
- 45:09think you. Giannis is only 30.
- 45:11He'll be 31 in December. Right.
- 45:13So he'll be 32 next year. He'll be 30. 131 Next.
- 45:16Year he'll be. Yes, he'll be 31 this year.
- 45:19Isn't he going to be 31? How old is he?
- 45:21Right? When's his birthday?
- 45:23Speedy. You should be looking this up.
- 45:25You are the producer of the show.
- 45:27I got it, I got it, I got it. But he should, he's the producer
- 45:30when people are saying things, he should be instead of watching
- 45:33the game, which he's sticking his head out in the game, he
- 45:36should be concentrating on the show.
- 45:37But I, I have no idea why his hat has his head up his ass.
- 45:41ESPN reports that the Pacers organization has told Tyrese
- 45:45Halliburton's father, John that he is no longer allowed to
- 45:49attend any Pacer playoff games for the the rest of this season.
- 45:54This came after a confrontation with Giannis after the Pacers
- 45:58eliminated the Bucks in Game 5 saying how he treated Giannis
- 46:02was disrespectful. That was Hal Burton's Hal Burton
- 46:05saying about his father. Cuz speedy, didn't you know,
- 46:07really explain that? Giannis said he was waving a
- 46:10towel and swearing at him after the game and Giannis said it was
- 46:16a green light for him to to be disrespected or disrespectful
- 46:21towards Hal Burton's father. Stephen A Smith said that the
- 46:25NBA has to discipline Hal Burton's father and says this
- 46:29isn't the first time this incident has happened during a
- 46:33game. Charles Barkley said if he was
- 46:37Giannis, I mean he was, I'm sorry.
- 46:39If he was in Giannis's position when he was playing, it would
- 46:44have been a lot more violent. Tyrese Halliburton even said to
- 46:49his father that there is no place for this among basketball
- 46:53fans and he acted irrationally because he was very excited.
- 46:58The Pacers advance to the second round after beating the Bucks
- 47:02119 to 118 on a buzzer beater by Halliburton and will face the
- 47:07Cavaliers in the second round. First of all, they don't have
- 47:11any chance against the Cavaliers.
- 47:13I I do not believe they match up very well against the Cavaliers,
- 47:16especially the way Kenny Atkinson has his team playing
- 47:19defensively. I absolutely agree with Charles
- 47:23Barkley. If I was Yannis, I would have
- 47:26knocked his father out. You come on the basketball court
- 47:29and you're threatening and swear, swearing at me when I'm
- 47:33one of the best players still in the league.
- 47:35I was an MVP, I won 2 MVP's in the NBA and you're going to
- 47:40attack me? What does your son want?
- 47:42That's what I would have said. What does your son want?
- 47:44He's won nothing on a basketball court.
- 47:46He's never been up for an MVP. He's not even the best point
- 47:50guard in the Eastern Conference. I I would just go right at him.
- 47:53And I would have said that to Halliburton's father.
- 47:55But nevertheless, I think what Giannis is, he's a, he's a real
- 47:59pro. He's not going to go out there.
- 48:01He's not going to swear or threaten anybody.
- 48:03Remember, this is a kid that really has had an amazing story.
- 48:08This is a guy that came from Nigeria, went to Greece, and
- 48:13then somehow I got into the NBA and it took him a couple years
- 48:17and became a superstar right in front of her eyes.
- 48:20This is a guy that a lot of people thought was never even
- 48:22going to be a first round talent and if he wasn't drafted in the
- 48:25top 16, might have never played in the NBA.
- 48:28It's a crazy story and if you haven't checked that out, go on
- 48:31Disney. But Stephen A Smith is
- 48:34absolutely right as well. This shouldn't be going on in an
- 48:37NBA game. The NBA should have security
- 48:39guards and police officers protect their players.
- 48:43I know it's Hal Burton's father. I know he was excited, but we've
- 48:47seen this many, many times. We talked about Danny Hurley and
- 48:49what Danny Early was doing the Edie, Zach Edie in a college
- 48:53championship game and what he was saying to the players.
- 48:56I could say the same about Hal Burton's father.
- 48:58But guess what? Hal Burton's father is not a
- 49:00coach. He's not assistant coach.
- 49:02He is a fan. He should not be allowed to step
- 49:05on a basketball court. No matter if his son wins or if
- 49:08his son loses. There should be some kind of
- 49:11control and this is again, the LJA, the LeBron James
- 49:15Association, as LeBron James for years has had his family after
- 49:20winning championship after championship, run on the
- 49:22basketball court and, and, and cheer and celebrate with LeBron
- 49:26James. The NBA needs to find a way to
- 49:29protect their players because who knows what can happen in the
- 49:31future. Maybe a guy with a gun or a
- 49:34knife or something of that magnitude.
- 49:36Could you imagine that happened after a basketball game?
- 49:39I mean, John Marantz dancing and prancing around shooting, you
- 49:42know, shooting the, I mean, he doesn't have a gun in his hands,
- 49:45but he's shooting his fingers up in the air.
- 49:47And we all know what John Moran's done off the basketball
- 49:50court. But it's it's starting to make
- 49:52me worried that professional athletes are not protected by
- 49:56the league. The league needs to figure out
- 49:58why this is happening. How about in Ranger games after
- 50:02the Rangers win a series or knockout a team that the Ranger
- 50:05fans are knocking out other fans or we've seen that at Madison
- 50:09Square Garden. Why isn't there security?
- 50:12Why isn't there enough security in these playoff games where
- 50:15they can protect the fans and protect the players?
- 50:18I I just don't get it. And how Burton's father is she
- 50:21should be ashamed of himself. You're going to talk to Giannis
- 50:25and one of the best, the Greek Freak, one of the best young,
- 50:28one of the best young stars that the NBA has provided over the
- 50:31last 20 years. And you're going to go after him
- 50:34because he got knocked out because one of his players, one
- 50:36of the best better point guards in the NBA got knocked out with
- 50:40a Kelly Achilles hair. I mean, seriously, it.
- 50:43Makes his son. It makes his son look terrible.
- 50:45It does, But you know, I like what Hal Burton said after the
- 50:49game saying that there's I don't that that there's no right that
- 50:53is he had no right to go on the basketball court and say what he
- 50:56said to Giannis and that he says this doesn't this doesn't work
- 50:59and it shouldn't fit in the NBA. So I like that Hal Burton came
- 51:03out. He's a young star in this
- 51:04league. I'm sure he's embarrassed by his
- 51:07father, but it it shows his. But did you see his mom?
- 51:10His mom hit Giannis. Yep, Yep.
- 51:13I I don't get they. Didn't say anything about her.
- 51:15No, because she's a woman. That's that's why they they're
- 51:18not going to say that. You think that both.
- 51:20Should be held accountable. 100 percent, 100%.
- 51:24And Charles Barkley is absolutely going back to Charles
- 51:26Barkley. I love what Charles has to
- 51:28Charles has to say. Because if it was Charles
- 51:30Barkley, Charles Barkley would have knocked him the hell out.
- 51:33Charles Barkley would have knocked him fly.
- 51:35Could you imagine him running Halliburton's father running to
- 51:38Ron Artest and calling him there?
- 51:40Could you imagine what Ron Artest would have done to him if
- 51:43he was mouthing off to Metta World Peace?
- 51:45I mean, seriously. That was before Metta World.
- 51:47Peace. I'm just saying if.
- 51:49Peaceful now. Yeah, well that's what he says
- 51:51he is. Two piece back then, yeah.
- 51:54But you don't go on the basketball court and attack
- 51:57somebody of this magnitude and think that you're not.
- 52:00You're not going to have repercussions.
- 52:02It's embarrassing and the NBA needs to clean this up.
- 52:04Adam Silver should be controlling the fans after the
- 52:08games. I see so many times after the
- 52:11games that the fans are allowed to step.
- 52:13Spike Lee, he is obviously a famous director.
- 52:16He's always on the sidelines at the Madison Square Garden and
- 52:19all these superstars are going to the game after the game.
- 52:22Why are they allowed to step on the basketball court and have
- 52:25conversations with the athletes? What makes them better than the
- 52:28fans? They're paying the same amounts.
- 52:31But let me ask you like, so if they come on the court, you're
- 52:36basically in my office and you start talking trash or whatever
- 52:40and then I bust you upside the head and then you sue me A. 100.
- 52:46Percent. You're literally like losing for
- 52:49losing. You can't do anything if if he
- 52:52punches him and knocks him out and breaks his jaw, he's he's in
- 52:57the right. Well, I wouldn't, I wouldn't
- 52:59blink twice. But what's he going to do?
- 53:02Oh, he hit me. I didn't do anything to him.
- 53:04Well, you know how many times we've dared people jump in the
- 53:07bullpen talking garbage? How about if you step Jabba, How
- 53:11about this, I'm sorry to cut you off.
- 53:13How about if you were on the mount and you were in the 9th
- 53:15inning, game seven of the World Series and you strike out the
- 53:20side and you jump in the air and celebrate and all of a sudden
- 53:23some crazy guy comes out from the the fans in the audience and
- 53:28jumps in the middle of the pile and smacks you in the back of
- 53:31the head. What are you supposed to do?
- 53:32Stand there and take it? You just won a World Series and
- 53:35this guy, another fan from the other team, from the Padres,
- 53:38comes out and smacks you in the side of the head.
- 53:41What do you do? You're going to stand there and
- 53:42take it. No, you're going to knock him
- 53:43the F out. That's what you're going to do,
- 53:45and you're going to get 2 for it.
- 53:47You know what's crazy though is we have a meeting about that in
- 53:50spring training, like when people storm the field because
- 53:53if you remember it was probably 10810 years ago.
- 53:59Matt Diaz, outfielder for the Braves, tripped the dude that
- 54:02was running and he tried to sue. Him.
- 54:03I remember that, by the way. I do remember that.
- 54:06And so they're like, don't touch him.
- 54:07And I'm like, you're literally on our field.
- 54:10Like, what are we supposed to do?
- 54:12Like I'm trying to, if you're running at me, like the dude
- 54:16that ran on the field in the football game and, and I don't
- 54:19remember who it was, but they tackled the guy.
- 54:21Like we can't protect ourselves. And it makes it even worse that
- 54:24it's a father that comes on. And I get heat of the moment and
- 54:28we've all done dumb stuff in the heat of the moment.
- 54:30But you got to have a little feel to, to one of the best
- 54:33players in the world. And the way he just looked at
- 54:36him. I, I give him all the credit in
- 54:38the world for not like as you're head to head to just not grab
- 54:42him by the throat and throw him down.
- 54:44All the credit in the world to Giannis for not doing anything.
- 54:46Because I agree. I, I would have snapped, like
- 54:49especially in that situation. Obviously let him beat me off
- 54:52the dribble. And you know, I'm pissed at
- 54:55myself and losing the series. Like I, I commend him because I
- 55:00would have, I would have two piece chicken and a fry with
- 55:03him. I would have made that thing go
- 55:05hard. Yeah, And you, you always wonder
- 55:08this fan versus player relationship type thing we've
- 55:10seen in especially in the NBA because it's just hard because
- 55:12it's they're courtside, they're right there compared to other
- 55:15sports where it's a little more distant with the way the field
- 55:17is. And we've seen this with Russell
- 55:19Westbrook, we've seen this with James Harden in the past.
- 55:21We've seen it. It's a lot of instances like
- 55:23that. Obviously the the Knicks fans
- 55:25with Trey Young was a big deal when they play in the playoffs,
- 55:28but it really good crosses the line when you're doing it like
- 55:31that close to a player like that.
- 55:33Fans are going to fight with fans all the time.
- 55:34It's going to happen with Eddie fan base like Errol saying
- 55:37Raiders fans are fighting with each other.
- 55:39We've how many times do we see Oakland Raiders fans get into
- 55:42parking lot brawls with each other?
- 55:43But when you're doing it to a player like you're watching the
- 55:45game to go see them and see them shine the way they are, and now
- 55:49you're going after. Young, but it's speedy.
- 55:52It's one thing to do it from the stands, but it's another to do
- 55:54it when you're on the damn court.
- 55:55Yeah, and again, there's there's a limit to obviously you can
- 55:58hack, you can Boo them all you want, you could do all trash
- 56:01talking during the game is fine, but whatever he's saying must
- 56:04have crossed in the line using. All you're a multi billion
- 56:06dollar organization. The New York Knicks, they're one
- 56:09of the richest. If the Knicks were to sell their
- 56:11team right now, James Dolan, sell their team, they'll make
- 56:14like $12 million off the New York Knicks and the organization
- 56:17you're talking about a basketball game.
- 56:19Giannis is one of the biggest superstars in the NBA and
- 56:23there's no protection after the game.
- 56:24There's no security that can protect this guy when somebody's
- 56:28running on a basketball court and wife smacking him in the
- 56:31back of the head and this guy's yelling and cursing and saying
- 56:34these disgusting things to him after getting knocked out of the
- 56:38playoffs because one of your best US players was knocked out
- 56:40in game four-game 5 because of Achilles tear.
- 56:43I mean, it's disrespectful. The Pacers are becoming the bad
- 56:46boys of the NBA right in front of our eyes.
- 56:49Everyone keeps talking about Detroit, but the Pacers last
- 56:51year, remember what they did in the Knicks?
- 56:53How many times? How many times?
- 56:55Yeah, they were, they were hitting the Knicks.
- 56:57And, and Rick Carlisle, he's a great coach, an aggressive
- 57:01defensive coach. When they won, when Dallas won
- 57:04the championship with Dirk Nowinski and that team, they
- 57:06played very aggressively against Miami.
- 57:08That's why they won that series. Yeah.
- 57:10The same thing goes to the Pistons.
- 57:12They don't have superstars on a team.
- 57:14What's the biggest name on that team right now?
- 57:16Who's the biggest name? Hal Burton.
- 57:18That is the biggest name. I'm sorry, I'm talking about the
- 57:21Pacers. The biggest name on the Pacers
- 57:24is Halpern. After Halpern, who's the other
- 57:26star? Who's the other star that they
- 57:28have? And Siakam is not even really a
- 57:31star. He's a great player.
- 57:32He's not a star. So it it it says a lot about
- 57:36this team and the way they play. They play rough, they play very
- 57:40good defensively and they have a great bench.
- 57:42That's why the Pacers have always given teams like the
- 57:45Knicks problems because the Knicks have no depth.
- 57:47So it's despicable. It shouldn't have been done.
- 57:50And the NBA needs to protect these players.
- 57:52They're superstars for years to come.
- 57:54Because I don't like it. I don't like this how how a
- 57:57player, player like this, of this magnitude who's done
- 57:59nothing to anybody. Have you ever seen Giannis go
- 58:02out there and try to say something or disrespect anybody
- 58:05on a basketball game? Never.
- 58:07You don't ever hear anything about him, really.
- 58:09I'm always amazed at how like soft and well spoken he is in
- 58:13his interviews. You know how how he's always and
- 58:16he came out in this interviews like I just believe you should
- 58:18handle yourself like a gentleman.
- 58:21I was like, this guy is so intense on the court and he's so
- 58:25reserved off the court. It's really impressive.
- 58:27He is honestly, he's the type of guy you want to root for and
- 58:31Halliburton is the type of guy you don't want to root for.
- 58:33I couldn't stand. I loved when he was going to lay
- 58:37against like Jaylen Brunson and like WWE events after they had
- 58:41their playoff series. It was pretty cool that he did
- 58:43that. His father doing this is out of
- 58:45control. I can't believe the Pacers were
- 58:47the ones that stepped in and said that they're banned from
- 58:49all their games. Not like.
- 58:51It's home and not the LJA. Road like it's just like,
- 58:55listen, you got to do it. And Errol, you had a theory that
- 58:58you shared with me earlier today on why they did that.
- 59:02And I thought, I think it's a good time for you to share with
- 59:04them because why would they want to be so afraid of that?
- 59:08Well, and I, I didn't want to mention it because I, I can
- 59:11answer and, and mention that after the offseason, but Giannis
- 59:15is going to be available in the offseason.
- 59:16A lot of people believe that. And the Pacers are an
- 59:18organization that has a tremendous amount of a room to
- 59:21bring in another superstar to play with Alberton and Yanis
- 59:24being that he's a big man and he he needs that other point guard
- 59:27to run the point. It would make a lot of sense on
- 59:31why the Pacers are one of those teams and one of those
- 59:33organizations has a ton of stock when it comes to draft picks to
- 59:37trade for a Giannis into the Kupo.
- 59:39And and now after this happened, do you think Giannis wants to go
- 59:42over there to India, Indiana and play with the Pacers?
- 59:46No, So you have Hal Burton coming out and and protecting
- 59:49the players and protecting Giannis.
- 59:51Maybe that gives Giannis and thought, hey, maybe the Pacers
- 59:54aren't that bad. But if I was Giannis right now
- 59:56and if he becomes available, which he probably will, do you
- 59:59want to go and play for the Pacers now after what Hal
- 1:00:01Burton's father? This ruins any chance they have.
- 1:00:05To land a guy like Giannis I, it's just pathetic.
- 1:00:08Maybe not though, if if Halliburton reached out to him
- 1:00:12and be like, hey, that was my pops, it wasn't me.
- 1:00:15You've obviously seen the way. I just want to pay my respects.
- 1:00:18Like if it depends on how it was handled on the other end.
- 1:00:22And obviously we have ways of getting hold of each other's
- 1:00:25numbers. So I would hope that he would
- 1:00:28have handled it in in that manner because it obviously
- 1:00:32wasn't him. It was his father, and so
- 1:00:35hopefully he did. So I, I wouldn't, I wouldn't
- 1:00:39say. But this as of now, not knowing
- 1:00:42the insides of it, I would like if it was me in that situation
- 1:00:46happened, I'd if, if they even call, I'd be like go the kite.
- 1:00:50But if he was like, Hey, you know what?
- 1:00:52That ain't me. That was him.
- 1:00:54I had nothing to do with it. I apologize for him and you
- 1:00:59know, let's let's let's try to move on.
- 1:01:01But I think it's just how it's. Handled by the way the the
- 1:01:04Knicks are screwing this up again.
- 1:01:05The the Knicks had a 15 point lead in the second quarter and
- 1:01:09now I if I'm not mistaken, they're down in this quarter.
- 1:01:12So it's typical New York. Knicks fashion, they're up one
- 1:01:15on our end. Oh, OK, so.
- 1:01:17No, they were up by 15 though, and now they're up by 1.
- 1:01:20It's what happened now I don't you're you're probably a lot
- 1:01:23ahead of ahead of us. So it's just I'm watching
- 1:01:27stream, so it's on another stream if I go to another.
- 1:01:29Stream it was. It was a buzzer beater at the
- 1:01:32end of the quarter. At the end of the half, he had a
- 1:01:34three and it's down to at halftime.
- 1:01:37It's typical. It's a typical New York Knick.
- 1:01:40What goes on runs and they don't hold up well defensively, so
- 1:01:44it's just trading runs. I don't know how that's going to
- 1:01:47get you to a championship. There's something needs to be
- 1:01:50done. Yeah, it's called coaching.
- 1:01:52It's called coaching. The, the coaching, you just
- 1:01:55wonder, you know, I, I think I made this.
- 1:01:57I don't know who's on the air or off the air, but I, when the
- 1:01:59Golden State moved on from Mark Jackson, Mark Jackson had raised
- 1:02:03that young group together and was their coach and brought them
- 1:02:06to a certain point. But then they didn't believe he
- 1:02:08can go past that point. And Mark Jackson hasn't coached
- 1:02:11really since. And I'm wondering if the Knicks
- 1:02:15are thinking the same about Thibodeau at this point.
- 1:02:18Thibodeau has not won before. He's been an assistant on
- 1:02:20winning on the Celtics when they won, but he hasn't won as a head
- 1:02:23coach. His style, people are upset
- 1:02:26about the minutes. People are upset about, you
- 1:02:28know, being so ardent in the way that he plays.
- 1:02:31And if he doesn't have the guy, it's almost like Wink
- 1:02:33Martindale. And like the defense the Giants
- 1:02:35try to run. They didn't have the guys, but
- 1:02:37he wanted to run it that way anyway.
- 1:02:39Tips is like that. Tips is very similar to that.
- 1:02:41This is what I run. I'm going to be smart enough to
- 1:02:44adjust with everybody, but this is what we do.
- 1:02:47If you can beat that, you win. And teams can beat that,
- 1:02:50unfortunately, in the playoffs, right?
- 1:02:51Now team defense, you're not going to win.
- 1:02:54It becomes a half court game. And the Knicks have not really
- 1:02:57produced any team defense in this series.
- 1:03:00And if Detroit wins this game there, it's going to be very,
- 1:03:02very hard to go back to Madison Square Garden with the with the
- 1:03:05momentum on Detroit's side and go to Madison Square Garden in
- 1:03:08the Game 7 and knock off Detroit.
- 1:03:10I think the pressure will be on the Knicks.
- 1:03:12And even if the Knicks somehow pull it out, then they got to
- 1:03:14deal with the Celtics with probably a week's worth of time
- 1:03:18to rest it. It's really the Knicks are just
- 1:03:21a team that just makes you, it just pulls your heart right out.
