Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_01: Welcome to the SOB Scarlet Orange and Brown Podcast.
- 0:04SPEAKER_01: Weekly breakdown of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Cleveland Browns.
- 0:09SPEAKER_01: Here are your hosts, Ken Carpenter and Chris Husman.
- 0:13SPEAKER_01: Oh, hello and welcome to the SOB Podcast.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: Scarlet, Orange, and Brown.
- 0:17SPEAKER_01: I'm Ken Carpenter.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: And I'm Chris Usman.
- 0:19SPEAKER_01: And we are in different locales today.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: I am stuck in an airport in Savannah, Georgia, and I'm not sitting comfortably in the Dublin bubble that we usually uh record from in our studios.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: But how's your day going, Huey?
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: It's going great.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: I had the day off today, and yeah, it's going great.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: I've been enjoying it.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Sounds like it's going a little bit better in yours, Kenny.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Get up this morning at 6, and it is now five minutes till five, and I am having him left to my destination.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: So uh good thing is, is I know it's not a good thing.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: I I have to miss the Browns game now tonight.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: So we'll get this rolling here and maybe I'll be able to listen to it to stream it somehow.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: I'm not very good at this.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: But well, going off this past weekend, it was a record day for Jeremiah Smith and the Buckeyes, and uh Cincinnati dropped the close one, and the Browns, I can't believe I'm saying this, are tied for first place.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: What are your thoughts?
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's it was an it was an odd weekend, Kenny.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: It really was.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: My Bengals let me down, and uh just happy for Cleveland and happy for the Buckeyes.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: We actually actually moved up in the polls this week, which I was happy to see.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Yes, definitely.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: The uh Buckeyes with a 42-19 win, and I thought that they they did a lot of things right.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: I mean, obviously Julian Said and Jeremiah Smith were able to do everything that they needed to do.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: And if there's a clear front runner, I'm gonna have to say it's Jeremiah Smith for the Heisman Trophy.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, 100%.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: 12 receptions, 217 yards, four TDs.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: He's national player of the week, by the way.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: So that was really good.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: And yeah, I think it puts him in the front runner for Heisman.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: I mean, Julian Sand was good too.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: 367 yards, four TDs, obviously, all those to Smith.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: The running backs, too, Kenny, I thought ran pretty angry, which is how I was happy to see.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: We almost got up to that five yards of carry a spurt, which I think is important in college football.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: 4.7 yards is what we had.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Um, what I'm really, really interested to see this week is how the defense is going to be.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: You know, I know Matt Patricia's frustrated.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: We gave up 462 yards to Illinois, which just can't happen.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: 199 of those were on the ground, which was absolutely ridiculous.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: I heard Coach Day this week said he was taking active applications for the defensive line.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: And if you're a defensive lineman, that's something that you hate to hear.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Um, something I'm also concerned about is our linebackers, too, Kenny.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Um, we just can't give up a 200 yards rushing to Illinois.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: And you know, I think the the defensive line is not uh not getting the job done.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: And you know, we can't look back and wish we had Debosa Brothers or Chase Young.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: Defensive end, Kenyatta Jackson's okay, but not elite.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: And we're getting a little bit more help this weekend, but uh the defense has got to step it up.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: And when all the top tacklers are your defensive backs, you know, specifically uh Jalen McClain, he he did a great job this past weekend, but uh it's putting too much pressure on our defense.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: And I think you know, with Iowa, the way they played against Michigan, I it's going to be a lot uh taller task this weekend.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and and one simple way to combat that, Kenny, and it's very, very simple, and it's you add an extra down lineman.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: And what that does is it takes away the double teams.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Um, it's gonna free up your defensive ends to make a move, and it's gonna free up your linebackers uh because they're not gonna have a guard coming out on them and blocking them.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: So we need to add an extra defensive lineman this week in our game plan against Iowa, and I think that's what they're gonna do.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: Iowa's a heavy rushing team.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: You know, for the most part, we are pretty healthy.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Uh Jay Temmins is questionable.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: Our cornerback Daniels is still questionable on the offensive line.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Our tight end, uh Bennett Christian, is banged up.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Other than that, we came out pretty healthy up to this Iowa game.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: The Iowa people that are questionable are out.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: The defensive back, Tyler Brown, is out.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: He's a good one.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Uh, they also have another DB, Darion Jones, who's questionable this week.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: And then they have uh one of their top linebackers, Weisskopf.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: He's questionable too.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: So it's gonna be sunny and 70 out there at Kennick Field in Iowa.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: I've got the Buckeyes winning this game, can he quite handedly, 31 to 16.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: Well, I I think that uh Ryan Day is wanting to get Legend Bay on the field, but it sounds like there's some issues going on with what's happening during the week.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: And I think that he made a comment about Jeremiah Smith being on time and doing things the right way.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: And I think if you can read between the lines, maybe Legend Bay is struggling a little bit with his accountability.
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: And hopefully he got the message and he wants to get on the field, he's gonna have to buy into the way the Buckeyes do things and the way Ryan Day does things.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: And you know, the thing is I agree, Kenny.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: I mean, it it's that maturity level.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: You know, once you get to college and you get that autonomy out in college and you can do what you want when you want to, go to sleep when you want to, eat what you want to, so on and so forth.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: You know, a lot of people they just can't handle that freedom.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: And it sounds to me like Legend Bay is in that category right now.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: And, you know, he needs to he needs to get on board with all this stuff.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: I know his mother was really active, and you know, him coming to Ohio State from Tennessee and everything else.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: And now that he's on his own, away from the parental contacts, you know, it's almost as if he's uh you know taking taking liberties with that.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: Well, the Iowa defense is only giving up eight eight points a game, and uh at least averaging eight points a game.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: And Brown, who's their quarterback thus far through this point in the season, has had zero turnovers.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: So they're gonna be have to be at their best.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: And I I agree with you, you know, Buckeyes are favored, double digit favorite, but I I think it's gonna be a lot closer game just because they're playing at Iowa.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: And I I could see the Buckeyes winning 30 to 21.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: I think it's gonna be a lot closer than people think.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's just um, you know, we I mean the quarterback is questionable to me.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: I I I just I I don't think he's gonna drop back and pass the ball all over the field against us and you know all the way down the field.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: It's just we have to stop the run, period.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: And if we can stop the run and force him to pass, then I think we're gonna be quite good.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: And plus, Kenny, I just don't think they've they've seen the weapons as far as the receivers that we have.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: The only time Michigan really hurt their defense is when you know the quarterback from Michigan took off uh on a run.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: Well, uh I wanted to bring this up about college football.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: Who do you have in your top five this week?
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: I was thinking about that today, Kenny, and um I have Georgia as my number one.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: I have uh Texas as number two, I have Ohio State number three, and number four and number number four.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: I have Miami, and number five, Kenny, I have Florida.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: Ooh, Florida making the jump.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: They could be a scary team this year.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: I I have judged the Bulldogs jumping ahead of Texas.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: I just Texas, yes, they beat Ohio State and they're undefeated, but I just I moved them down to number two.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: I got Notre Dame three, Ohio State four, and I'm still not sure what to think about Miami, but they play Clemson this week.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: Might have a better idea, but I'm gonna put them at number five, and I think Indiana and Florida are the the two teams uh are really pushing to to jump into that top five.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: That's a good five, Kenny.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: And again, I you know, Miami really doesn't play anybody until they play Notre Dame, and Notre Dame doesn't really play anybody until they play Miami.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: So, you know, I'm kind of waiting on that game to happen.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: Uh as well, you know, Georgia's still got to go through the SEC, same with Texas, same with Florida.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: So it'll play itself out.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: Well, let's move on to the Cincinnati Bengals.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: Uh you know, Burrow, Chase, and Higgins all did their job.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: Three TDs, 282 through the air.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: And between Chase and Higgins, they had a total of 15 receptions, 188 yards, but they gave up 411 to Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: And I I guess the question I have for you is is this just the NFL being the NFL?
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it is.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: And you know, we mentioned it last week here on the SOB.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: Things happen, you know, stupid things happen when you go to Hinesfield in Pittsburgh.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's totally different.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know, I think they've got their 92nd different plane surface there because they share the field with Pitt, University of Pittsburgh.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: You know, it's just always something.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: The wind always blows in one end zone, uh, making the field goals tough.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: And, you know, you got the fans, and then you got uh cheap shots, galore going on around.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: It's just always something different.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: But the fact of the matter is, Kenny, we just didn't get it done.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: Special teams blunders were absolutely ridiculous.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: Uh the roughing the kicker punter.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, who blocks a kick in the NFL?
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: I mean, that happens like once every 10 weeks.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: And, you know, here we are trying to do that.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: It's just a crucial, uh, crucial penalty.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: The muffed punt from a former steeler uh we picked off on the waiver wire.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: You know, all that stuff led to 10 points.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: And, you know, if you're gonna give Pittsburgh 10 points at Pittsburgh, you're probably gonna get an uh you're probably gonna get a loss.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: And you're right, Kenny.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: Joe Burrow had a decent game.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: He's a 127 passing or you know, quarterback percentage.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: The running backs only had 83 yards on 18 carries.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: That's gotta, that's gotta get higher.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: Iosovac is still on the IR.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: Colby Young is gonna be out.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: Dante Myers has to step up.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: He's your DoorDash driver that paid$100 to try out for the Canadian League, Kenny.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: But here's the thing: the cornerbacks are all banged up for Jacksonville, which is not a good thing coming in to play against T.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: Higgins and Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: Uh, the other good thing is going to be Sunny and 72 uh in Cincinnati.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: And everybody's two and one in the AFC North, you know, and we've kind of reestablished ourselves as the best uh the best football division or yeah, division in the NFL.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: And, you know, Pittsburgh, 273 yards passing from Rodgers.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: He was 19 to 34, which is okay.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: But the 138 yards giving up, especially the 127 to Warren, that can't happen, especially with our defensive line.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: Our defensive line was ranked in a top five, and you know, they just seem to have their way, and we couldn't stop that huge tight end they had either as well.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: So yeah, it's got to get better this week.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: I got Cincinnati winning this game 24-21.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be a good win, but uh, you know, we got to step it up on a defensive end.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: You know, I I saw all the videos coming out this week and what Pittsburgh was doing with their their offensive line where they were lifting up the legs, one leg on a defensive lineman and the and not getting called for it.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: I just don't I don't understand how you know you don't see that, and you're in the umpire position as a guy who refereed high school football, and I was in in the umpire position a lot of times.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: How do you how do you just miss?
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: And plus, it's it's dirty and dangerous.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: Well, uh it's it's i I call it the Aaron Rodgers factor, Kenny.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: You get some of these head officials in there, and they're just so enamored and and awestruck by Aaron Rodgers.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: And you know, if you look at Aaron Rodgers, he's he he he believes that he runs the coaching staff, he runs the city, he runs the stands, he runs the offensive line, he runs the running backs, he runs the referees, he runs the other team, he runs everybody.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: Aaron Rodgers is one of the biggest trash talkers in the NFL.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: And, you know, he's I I get that situation where, you know, Joe Burrow was not gonna get those calls.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: You know, if you remember, we had the play getting ready to start, and the referee stood until there was three seconds left and then put the ball in play.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: We had to take a timeout.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: Well, we needed that timeout when we were going down the field to end the game.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: And that probably led to that sack.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: So it's just the it's the Aaron Rodgers Rogers factors when it comes to these referees.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: When you go to Cincinnati, it's gonna be totally different.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: Yes, that's that's no doubt about that there.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: And you know, and you go into Thursday night, uh, the Browns are actually playing the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Cleveland's been pretty lucky as far as the record on Thursday night.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: And you know, maybe the Browns have figured something out.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: I'm still not totally sold on it.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: They did have a 21-18 surprising, you know, they it was a good win they for the Browns, and uh and to hear the fans cheering for Watson, which I wasn't sure how that was going to go, but you know, it's like they say when he hears everything, but he you know, he was 50%, you know, 16 for 30, 144 yards.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Fannin did a good job with a couple touchdowns, and they were able to slow down Bryce Young, and that was uh I you know, maybe that maybe the team just believes.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: I I I don't know.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: They're starting to have a different mindset compared from to fanskee to Munkin.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I agree.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: Being a short week, Kenny, it's a lot different.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: You have to come in on Sunday now for these Thursday games and uh not only get your game plan together, but you also have to heal up injuries, and then you got to start live practice on Monday, Tuesday, uh, and then you know Wednesday is more or less a travel day.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: And you know, it's just it's tougher for these teams to play on Thursday.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: The thing I like about Cleveland and their defensive pressure, Kenny, was they pressured Bryce Young 51% of his dropbacks.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: So they didn't allow him to sit back in that pocket, Kenny, and and just you know, throw the ball.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: They pressured him.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: And if you're gonna do that to Aaron Rodgers, a lot of good things are gonna happen.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: So, you know, I like the Browns in this game.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: I thought Mason Graham dominated, had a couple sacks.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: You know, he's now, Kenny, has had a sack, I believe, in every uh the first three games, which is the first Brown to do that since Miles Garrett.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: So, um, and that was like uh 2019, I believe it was.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: But Verse had uh, you know, uh Verse had six pressures as well.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: Like you said, Fanning had uh Fannin had a great game.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: You know, he's got four, he's leading the team now, Kenny, with 14 receptions.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: So seven of those he had uh for 51 yards, had a couple TDs.
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: Uh like you said, Deshaun's stats.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: But the thing I liked about Deshaun is he had 45 yards rushing, Kenny.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: I mean, that is something that you cannot prepare for for a Thursday game.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: I think Deshaun is going to have over 60 yards rushing on Thursday and uh for this game.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: He's just he's gonna be the X Factor with his legs.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: Um, it's gonna be 77 degrees at kickoff.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: There's only a few injuries out there.
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: The Browns have both the Jenkins boys, the center and the guard, are out.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: Wallace is out, the wide receiver.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: But for Pittsburgh, they got Dowdles out as running back, uh, Jalen Ramsey's all banged up, another defensive lineman.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: Black is questionable, and Eccles is gonna try to come back and play at cornerback, but he's not gonna be at his best, too.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: I got Cleveland winning this game, Kenny, 20 to 16.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: Yes, I I don't see a whole lot of points being put up, but uh you know, I think the Browns, you know, I'm I'm gonna pick them this week, and you know, I I can see it being a 21-20.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be close just because it's Pittsburgh.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, I I think that it will be a game that uh if they can get Quinchon Junkins running a little bit and get him moving, you know, they got a good chance to maybe stay at the top of first place, which if you'd asked that I would guarantee 100% of the fans before the season, if you would take three and one, the the Browns would be ecstatic.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: So we'll see.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: We'll see how that turns out.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I agree.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: I'm I it's gonna be a fun one to watch on Thursday.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: And you know, I just um I you know I'm rooting for the Browns because everybody hates Pittsburgh.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: Yes, without a doubt.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: Well, a couple things I wanted to touch on was who do you have as your your upset special and who is your lock for this week?
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm wearing my DraftKings hat, Kenny.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: I know you can see it right there.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: Uh, maybe our YouTube visitors will be able to see that, but uh we were six and two last week on our hard picks.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: That puts us at 21 and 8 overall.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: That's pretty good, Kenny.
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: We're gonna win some money on that.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: I've got three games to watch.
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: You know, last week I picked four upsets, three of them won.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: This week I'm picking Mississippi State plus the points, six points over Alabama.
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: Alabama's gonna have a big LUT down here.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm gonna call Missouri at home plus five and a half.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: I got Florida winning that game, but I got um they're not gonna cover.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: So Missouri plus five and a half.
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: Minnesota, I'm calling plus five and a half over Michigan.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: I just don't see Michigan being very good right now.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: And uh, you know, you're playing uh Minnesota, a strong Minnesota team.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be a repeat of last week, Kenny.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: I like Minnesota in that game.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: Wow, okay.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: Well, on my upset, if if you're giving me the points, I would take two and a half in Jacksonville against Cincinnati.
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: And my lock, I had the Florida Gators giving up five and a half to Missouri as my lock.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: And I also like Texas Tech giving 13.5 to Colorado.
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: I just think the Buffaloes are not very good.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: And Texas Tech, I think, is uh just gonna run it up on them.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: Well, I I picked two in the NFL, Kenny.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: I got the Raiders plus four over Kansas City.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: That'll be a tight game, I believe.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: And then I like Atlanta, resurging Atlanta team here coming on late.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: I you're giving them two and a half points uh against New Orleans.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: Atlanta and New Orleans is always a battle.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: That NFC South, you know, they're they're fighting for who's gonna take over that league.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: I like Atlanta plus the points there.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: Go.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: Well, hey, duh, to uh to mix it up a little bit, a couple things I wanted to run by you this week.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: Your thoughts on the dirty play of the USC Oregon game and the hit on Dante Moore.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's I saw it live, Kenny.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: I was watching that game.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: I was pulling for USC to win that game, you know, to go undefeated in our picks, and then you know, that play happened, and then I found myself rooting for Dylan Riola, and you know, what's he on his 17th college football team now, and um, you know, Oregon.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: So I I I just think there's no place in the game.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: I think there should be um I think they suspended him for one game.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: I think that needs to be a two or a three game suspension on that, just seeing how he reacted after the hit, you know, with the smiling and everything going on.
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: I just no place in the game for it, Kenny.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: Yes, I I and then for you know the coach to sit there and say, I didn't I didn't see how he was reacting.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's something that should have been addressed immediately.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: But, you know, it's it's USC and uh Yeah, I you know I agree, Kenny, and that's why that's why you have you know fifty-six other assistant coaches there to come up and tell you how things are reacting, you know.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: So it was on the whole entire coaching staff on that too as well.
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: Yes, and on top of that, I don't know if you saw any of the social media, but the USC announcers, I mean I I've heard of homering, but man, they were just like they were embarrassing the way they were saying that that was all on Dante Moore and it wasn't dirty and uh just frustrating.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean these kids, Kenny, they're you know, they're in college to go, you know, to try to get to their, you know, try to get number one, try to get an education, number two, try to get to the NFL if they can.
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: And um, you know, something like that could take away a kid's career, and it's just not, you know, that's why they put the rule in.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: You know, the kid's going down, let them go.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: And did you get a chance to see PJ Fleck at the end of his game when they beat Washington?
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: I did not, Kenny, no.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: Well, he was excited, and uh one of his players had blood coming out at a big uh bloody face, and PJ Fleck wiped it off and then he rubbed it on his face, basically like the old school days of Blood Brothers.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: So you know it.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: Well, well, uh, you know, needless to say, he probably went to the doctor this week to get his hepatitis B shot.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: So you know, that's just something you don't want to do.
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: Well, since uh, you know, we're both retired baseball coaches, I gotta ask, who do you have advancing to the World Series and who do you think wins it?
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: Man, I tell you.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: I mean, I hate to say it, Kenny.
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: You gotta take Los Angeles.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: I mean, just with all their payroll, and you know, until they institute something with a you know a salary cap, you know, I know they say they do, but they don't.
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: I mean, just to make things equitable.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: And just because I'm saying that, Kenny, I'm gonna take the Chicago White Sox against LA in the World Series.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: Wow, that's uh that's an interesting one.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: I am I I thought the Cubs had a chance to get to the World Series the way they were playing, but but they got swept.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: So, you know, I'm I'm going to just just throw it out there and just be crazy with it.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: I'm thinking the Padres advanced on the uh National League side and just because it would be a great talking point for all the announcers.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: I think the Guardians can get there, and even though they're the worst-hitting team, they're they're all the things that shouldn't get you to the World Series.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: And I think I'm gonna just play total Walmer here and and say Cleveland wins it for the first time since 1948.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: Well, I you know, I I would pull for the tribe, and uh, you know, being a Reds fan, being a Cincinnati fan in general, you know, I I just love how the tribe utilizes their triple A program here in Columbus, the Clippers.
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: You know, 90% of those players that play for Cleveland are um up through their farm system, and I think that says a lot.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: And you mentioned Cleveland, you know, their batting averages, but you know, you that those batting averages can be like that, Kenny, when you got a different guy every every night stepping up to win the game.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's always a different guy.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: With Cincinnati, if Ellie doesn't hit a three-run homer, you know, or Suarez doesn't hit a three-run homer, we're not winning the ballgame.
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: And, you know, it's just uh you know, it's just one of those situations where every night of the week Cleveland has somebody different, you know, whether it's a light hitting second baseman or whatever, hitting a, you know, hitting a home run or something or hitting a getting that key hit to win the game.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: And you know, I it would be fitting if San Diego made it, Kenny, just for the simple fact that they got two former Reds on the team.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: You know, that just shows you how we are.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: So, you know, we trade away our good players and then they end up going to the World Series.
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: So that would be apropos.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: And to finish on one last thing here, going back to the football.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: I know you're a big Bigfoot fan.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: If Bigfoot played football, what team could you see him playing for and what position would he be playing?
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: Well, he'd definitely play for Seattle because he lives in Washington.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: If he ever left Seattle, he would play for the Raiders, the black and the you know, the black and gray, uh, because all their fans look like Bigfoot anyway.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: But I would see he would play, he would be nose guard.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: They would bring back the old nose guard and just put him right in the middle.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's almost like Dexter Lawrence anyway.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: So uh just put him right in the middle.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: And you know, if they ever played Pittsburgh, Kenny, you would see the Steelers offensive lineman trying to lift up his leg and cheap shot him and hold him just to keep him from getting in the backfield.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: That's my two cents.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: Well, hey, it's uh I gotta I'm getting the wave from my wife saying we got to get on this plane.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: Hopefully, the last one didn't have brakes, which I'm glad they found out before we took off.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: And but hoping for a 3-0 weekend with the Buckeyes, Bengals, and the Browns.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: And uh, anything you want to finish off with?
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: Hey, let's get another one.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: Kenny Fly Safe.
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: You know, I heard Spirit Airlines, you got to actually uh pay for the cushions on your seats.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: So I want you to have good luck all right on that journey.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: Uh I know you got your significant other with you, Suzanne, and uh she will she will let them know if you guys are uncomfortable, believe me.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: But I tell you what, I wish you guys safe travels, get home safe, and uh when you get back, I can't wait to do week five.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: Sounds good.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: Well, as always, it's Scarlet Orange and Brown Podcast.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: I'm Ken Carpenter.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: I'm Chris Schusman.
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: Thanks for listening, and let's have a good weekend.
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: Bigfoot SOB, we're gonna be able to do that.
