- 1:31Oh, what a wonderful privilege we have.

- 1:35as we continue this week reading through the rest of Ephesians.
- 1:39Just a couple more chapters left.
- 1:40And then what a treat we get to start reading the Book of Mark
- 1:44together in the lead up to Easter.
- 1:48But for today, why don't you join me to read together?
- 1:51Ephesians Chapter 5. Imitate God.
- 2:05Therefore in everything you do, because you are His dear
- 2:09children, live a life filled with love.
- 2:13Following the example of Christ, He loved us and offered himself
- 2:18as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.
- 2:23Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed
- 2:27among you. Such sins have no place among
- 2:30God's people. Obscene stories, foolish talk
- 2:33and coarse jokes, These are not for you.
- 2:37Instead, let there be thankfulness to God.
- 2:41You can be sure that no immoral, impure or greedy person will
- 2:45inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God, for a greedy person
- 2:50is an idolater, worshipping the things of this world.
- 2:54Don't be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the
- 2:58anger of God will fall on all who disobey him.
- 3:02Don't participate in the things these people do.
- 3:05For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light
- 3:10from the Lord. So live as people of light, for
- 3:14this light within you produces only what is good and right and
- 3:20true. Carefully determine what pleases
- 3:24the Lord. Take no part in the worthless
- 3:27deeds of evil and darkness. Instead, expose them.
- 3:32It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly
- 3:36people do in secret, but their evil intentions will be exposed
- 3:40when the light shines on them, for the light makes everything
- 3:44visible. This is why it said Awake O
- 3:48sleeper rise up from the dead and Christ will give you light,
- 3:54so be careful how you live. Don't live like fools, but like
- 3:59those who are wise. Make the most of every
- 4:02opportunity in these evil days. Don't act thoughtlessly, but
- 4:07understand what the Lord wants you to do.
- 4:11Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your
- 4:14life. Instead, be filled with the Holy
- 4:16Spirit singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among
- 4:21yourselves and making music to the Lord in your hearts, and
- 4:25give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of
- 4:29our Lord Jesus Christ. And further submit to one
- 4:35another out of reverence for Christ.
- 4:37For wives this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord.
- 4:42For a husband is the head of his wife.
- 4:45As Christ is the head of the church, He is the Saviour of His
- 4:49body, the church. As the church submits to Christ,
- 4:53so you wives should submit to your husbands and everything.
- 4:57For husbands this means love your wives.
- 5:01Just as Christ loved the church, He gave up his life for her to
- 5:06make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God's Word.
- 5:12He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church
- 5:16without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish.
- 5:20Instead, she will be wholly and without fault.
- 5:24In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love
- 5:28their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife
- 5:31actually shows love for himself. No one hates his own body, but
- 5:36feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the Church and
- 5:41we are members of His body. As the scriptures say, a man
- 5:47leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the
- 5:51two are united into one. This is a great mystery, but it
- 5:56is an illustration of the way Christ and the Church are one.
- 6:01So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves
- 6:06himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
- 6:20Oh Jesus, you call us to be children of the light, to live
- 6:26as though in the light. And although that is what our
- 6:31hearts desire, you know we mess up.
- 6:33You know we struggle. You know we are broken, sinful
- 6:37people. Yet still, despite our fallen
- 6:43nature, despite the sins that we commit every single day, through
- 6:49everything you did on the cross for us, Jesus, you present us
- 6:54holy and blameless before God. We are loved and we are accepted
- 7:02because of what you have done for us.
- 7:05What a gift we have in you, Jesus, and what love and embrace
- 7:12we have in you. Your Father, your spirit thank
- 7:18you that you don't leave us out in the cold.
- 7:20You don't leave us with this long To Do List of things to
- 7:23avoid and things we have to participate in in order to make
- 7:27us acceptable. No, no, we are acceptable
- 7:31because you loved us and you save us.
- 7:36So we just love you back, and we are so grateful for everything
- 7:41you've done for us on that you accept us because of what you
- 7:46do, not because of how good we are.
- 7:50So we place you in the highest place in our lives and declare
- 7:55Your Lordship over all it's in your name that we pray.
- 8:00Jesus, oh man.
