- 0:56your professional career for the committee? Answer my professional career
- 1:00question yes, answer my first job question yes answer. My
- 1:05first job was when I was in fifth grade. I
- 1:07walked from elementary school to a little preschool to help
- 1:10my mother teach dance to little girls that worked there,
- 1:13not worked there, or went there. And then in seventh grade.
- 1:16I believe I started working for my father, who was
- 1:18an entrepreneur. He owned his own construction company, and my
- 1:22sister and I would stack bricks and scrape windows of
- 1:25the homes that he built. I also worked for Fridays
- 1:29as a hostess, and I taught dance. When I was
- 1:31in eleventh and twelfth grade drank college. I worked at
- 1:35Chili's as a waitress. And then when I moved to
- 1:38New Jersey, I worked for my first husband in his
- 1:41office supply company. It was a commercial office supply company.
- 1:45I was there as a customer service rep. And then
- 1:47after that I worked for Nordstrooms I told Men's clothing,
- 1:51and then after that I got the job with mister Epstein.
- 1:54Question and what year was at? Answer? That was two
- 1:57thousand and one? Question? And when did your employment with
- 2:00mister Epstein end? Answer twenty nineteen question? And were you
- 2:04working the same position that entire time? Answer? Yes, question
- 2:08executive secretary? Is that correct? Answer? Executive secretary? Question? And
- 2:14were there any breaks in your employment or was it
- 2:17all the way through from two thousand and one to
- 2:19twenty nineteen? Answer? I mean no official breaks except when
- 2:23I was pregnant. I definitely want on maternity leave for
- 2:26about three or four months. Question and are you currently employed? Answer?
- 2:31I am not. Question do you currently receive any income? Answer?
- 2:35I do not. Question. Tell me about the first time
- 2:38you interacted with Jeffrey Epstein. Answer That would be on
- 2:42the day I went for the interview. I first met,
- 2:44I believe, with Miss Maxwell's assistant, and then I met
- 2:48with Miss Maxwell, and then I met with mister Epstein
- 2:51in his office and he interviewed me. It was rather
- 2:54a quick, maybe like ten minutes. I sat in front
- 2:57of his desk, and I noticed that the phone can
- 3:00yup bringing and he would take the calls, speak briefly,
- 3:03and then hung up and then speak with me again.
- 3:06Question and this was also in two thousand and one.
- 3:09Do you recall the month or the date on that? Answer?
- 3:12I believe it was February. I believe. Question February two
- 3:15thousand and one. Answer, Uh huh, Emmer. We've had another
- 3:18member join. Can he please announce himself for the record.
- 3:23Andy Biggs Arizona Brignac. Miss Groff, who was redacted Miss
- 3:28Maxwell's assistant at the time, answers Leslie Groff questions by
- 3:33Miss Tolan once again question and where did this interview
- 3:37take place? Again? Answer at four point fifty seven Madison Avenue.
- 3:41It was Helmsley Palace. Question and how did you receive
- 3:44the opportunity to get the interview? Answer right. So, a
- 3:49headhunter had called me for a position at the New
- 3:51York Knicks. He had found my resume on monster dot com.
- 3:55He had his own business. But unfortunately I couldn't get
- 3:58to the city when he wanted me to, and by
- 4:00the time I got in the position for the New
- 4:02York Knicks was already taken. And once he met me,
- 4:06he consulted with some other people in the office and
- 4:08came back to me and said, you know, we might
- 4:11have another position if you're interested. It'd be working for
- 4:14one man who you know, you'd organize his life. He's
- 4:17a socialite, he's a businessman. It sounded, you know, exciting,
- 4:22and he asked me if I had time, that he
- 4:24would call this gentleman and see if I could actually
- 4:27go down for an interview that day, And amazingly he
- 4:30was available, and I actually walked up to the Helmsley
- 4:33Palace and that was the interview question. And you mentioned
- 4:36speaking with mister Epstein and he was taking calls. What
- 4:40was he like during the interview. Answer he was very
- 4:43business like, I mean just business like and professional. Question
- 4:47And what did he ask you during the interview? Answer?
- 4:50Where I had worked before? So I let him know
- 4:53about the office supply company and Nordstrums because those were
- 4:56my most recent jobs. He asked me if I, you know,
- 4:59was able to to use a computer, if I had
- 5:01worked on a computer before, and you know I could type,
- 5:04you know, things along those lines. Question do you recall
- 5:08any other discussions you may have had with them? Answer
- 5:11it so long ago. I think it was all just
- 5:13very basic. Mister Emmer jumps in. We've had another member join.
- 5:17Can you please announce himself for the record, Congressman Stephen
- 5:21Lynch from Massachusetts A district back to Miss Toland asking questions.
- 5:27Question and did you also interview with Glenn Maxwell? Answer?
- 5:31I did her first? Yeah. Question And what was she
- 5:34like during the interview? Answer? She was professional, friendly, wanted
- 5:37to make sure kind of the same things. You know,
- 5:40could I use a computer or type? Was I okay
- 5:43with fast paced atmosphere? Wanted to know my background, you know.
- 5:47Question did she interview with anyone else besides Maxwell? And
- 5:50Epstein answer. I did speak with redacted at the beginning,
- 5:55just a little bit, and it was probably more of
- 5:57the same. She probably just introduced herself to me and
- 6:01let me know a little bit about the office. Question.
- 6:04And you said you became his assistant or executive secretary
- 6:07about a week later. Is that correct? Answer? Correct question?
- 6:11And did he offer you employment? Answer? I'm not sure
- 6:14if it was him or miss Maxwell who may have
- 6:16called it. Probably was miss Maxwell. That seems to make
- 6:20more sense. Brignac was redacted leaving the office Groft. She
- 6:24was not. She left about a year later after I started,
- 6:29Miss Tolan. And you stated that your initial offer included
- 6:32a fifty thousand dollars salary. Is that correct? Answer? That's correct? Question?
- 6:36Were there any other benefits tied to the job, healthcare, housing,
- 6:40anything like that? Answer? I believe healthcare was also offered.
- 6:43Yes question anything else? Answer? Not of the time? Question
- 6:48and you mentioned this, I believe in your opening statement.
- 6:51But when you were given a job initially, were you
- 6:53aware that you'd be scheduling massages for mister Epstein? Answer?
- 6:57Not at the initial first I first spoke to him
- 7:00about the interview, but after I started, Yes, that was
- 7:04one of the things that was definitely spoken about, that
- 7:07a massage would be part of his day, and it
- 7:09was all treated very normally. Question and who told you
- 7:12that answer? I believe it was Miss Maxwell redacted, probably redacted.
- 7:17It was just known in the office, Miss Brignac. And
- 7:20who is going to train you and had to schedule
- 7:23these massages? Were you told at the beginning? Graf? Yes,
- 7:26I was told at the beginning. I'm sure it was redacted.
- 7:29And all of them, probably everybody took a hand in
- 7:32helping me. You know, there was a lot to learn.
- 7:35It was, you know, very fast paced, two phones on
- 7:37my desk, it was overwhelming, Brignac. Did you find anything
- 7:41about the massage scheduling to be odd when you first started, Graf,
- 7:45Absolutely not. It was just like any other appointment. It
- 7:49was like going to the gym. It was very normal. Timmins,
- 7:53did you schedule, sorry, did you ever schedule any of
- 7:55the other assistants for massages? Graf? No, Timmins, So everybody
- 8:00that you schedule for a massage seemed like they possibly
- 8:03were a massage therapist. Graff, I believe that. Yes. Back
- 8:07to Tolin and what did you know about mister Epstein
- 8:10prior to meeting him. Answer nothing nothing. I wasn't even
- 8:13told who I was going to meet until I got there.
- 8:17Question had you heard anything about him? Answer no question? Well,
- 8:21next question, did anyone raise concerns about mister Epstein to you? Answer?
- 8:26No question? And what were your first impressions of mister Epstein?
- 8:31Answer that he was powerful, know a lot of important people,
- 8:34professional business like super busy, stand offish. You know, we
- 8:39didn't have conversations. It was just about business and what
- 8:43he wanted accomplish that day. Did you immediately understand him
- 8:47to be wealthy? Answer yes. Question did you know how
- 8:51he acquired his money? Answer? I didn't know. I believed
- 8:54he was a money manager. Question how did you come
- 8:57to learn that? Answer? I think it was just talked
- 9:00about in the office with all the other administrative staff. Brignac.
- 9:04So when you accepted the job offer, what did you
- 9:06understand about the position? Groff? I believed he was a
- 9:10money manager, managed other people's money, Brignac. Was that told
- 9:14to you in the interview? Groff? I assume it was
- 9:17that he was a money manager. Tolan and how many
- 9:21clients did mister Epstein have during the period of your employment? Answer? Well,
- 9:25it's hard for me to say. I definitely know his
- 9:28biggest client was Les Wexner, and then he had some
- 9:30other clients as well. Can you name them? Answer? Can
- 9:33I name them? I think it was Rothschild, you know
- 9:36it was some other big names. He talked to Mord Zuckerman.
- 9:39I don't know if he was a client, nothing's coming
- 9:41to mind, but there were definitely important people calling. Question
- 9:45did you ever communicate directly with the clients? Answer just
- 9:48answering a phone call and passing the phone call through
- 9:51to mister Epstein. Question and were they frequent visitors to
- 9:56mister Epstein? Answered the business people question? Yes, sure, I
- 10:00wouldn't say frequent every so often. Question and did you
- 10:03ever conduct any work for any of those individuals? Answer?
- 10:07No question. We're going to get into more specifics later,
- 10:11but for now, just some general questions. Can you briefly
- 10:15describe the extent of your relationship with mister Epstein? Answer sure,
- 10:20I would say the relationship is hardly a relationship. It
- 10:23was very very business professional. I was not close to
- 10:26him whatsoever, and I do believe that's exactly the way
- 10:29he wanted it. Mister Emmer, we've had another member joined,
- 10:32Can she please announce herself for the record, yasimin and sorry,
- 10:37Arizona's third district. Back to Brignac. Question the headhunter could
- 10:43tell you or tell us a bit more about how
- 10:45you came into contact with this person. Answer? Of course,
- 10:48he called me because he saw my resume on monster
- 10:50dot com. He had his own firm, and I know
- 10:53his daan was Russell. I can't remember his last name,
- 10:56but it was his own firm, and he said he
- 10:58called me in for the New York Knick's job, and
- 11:00I went to the city to meet him. Question and
- 11:03what was the name of his firm? Answer? I don't recall.
- 11:07I don't recall. It was on Madison Avenue, I believe,
- 11:10and you know, I come to mister Epstein. Someone might
- 11:13have been miss Maxwell redacted. Somebody hired his firm, Russell's
- 11:17firm to find a secretary. Questions, so were other employees
- 11:21of Epstein procured from this firm? Answer? I'm not sure.
- 11:25Question you likely worked in assisting to recruit other assistants
- 11:28and employees for Epstein? Did you use this firm? Answer?
- 11:32Actually I did not. That was not under my heading.
- 11:35I never contacted any head hunter firms, or was in
- 11:38charge of recruiting. Do I recall interviewing some women when
- 11:43he wanted I was actually thinking he wanted to replace me,
- 11:46but perhaps it was, you know, he just wanted another
- 11:49executive assistant. But that was one time. But I don't
- 11:52know where exactly what that firm that came from? Question
- 11:57and did you work for mister Epstein until he died
- 11:59in twenty nineteen? Answer? No, not until he died. I
- 12:02actually resigned prior to that question. Why answer? It was
- 12:06time for me to resign. I discussed it with, you know,
- 12:09my family, and I wanted to leave. Question and what
- 12:13was the date of your resignation? Answer? I don't know
- 12:16the exact date. I believe it was July of twenty nineteen. Brignac.
- 12:20What was the reason you left? Answer? What was the
- 12:24reason I left? I didn't understand what was going on,
- 12:27and I didn't want to be with them, associated with
- 12:29them anymore. Brignac? What took place that brought those feelings
- 12:33of confusion? Groth? Well, he was arrested, and that was
- 12:38that was scary to me. I didn't like that. I
- 12:40didn't want to be associated with him. I didn't understand
- 12:43what was going on, Miss Toland. Question, did you have
- 12:47those same feelings after his first arrest in two thousand
- 12:50and six? Answer? That was a different time. Actually, he
- 12:54explained to me that he was being blackmailed and it
- 12:56was all this big false and I believed him, and
- 12:59it appeared to me everybody in the office felt the
- 13:01same way. He was very good at manipulating, very good liar.
- 13:05We can all see that. And at the time I
- 13:07actually felt sorry for him. I thought, Wow, this must
- 13:10be really difficult to be a wealthy person and not
- 13:13know who you can trust because everybody just wants your money.
- 13:17Question did you ever doubt what he told you or
- 13:21ever think the allegations were true? Answer? No, I did not.
- 13:26All right, folks, we're gonna wrap up right here, and
- 13:28in the next episode dealing with the topic, we're gonna
- 13:30pick up where we left off. All the information that
- 13:33goes with this episode can be found in the description box.
