- 1:37Speaker 3: This is a very important podcast because we're gonna teach
- 1:39Speaker 3: you in this episode to how to survive as Sharknato. Now,
- 1:44Speaker 3: Sharknado three is going to air on the Sci Fi
- 1:47Speaker 3: Channel in July to twenty second. This is going up
- 1:50Speaker 3: the day before, but if you're a subscriber, it's going
- 1:52Speaker 3: up about one or two days early, so you can
- 1:55Speaker 3: get even quicker preparation for battling this shark Nato. I
- 2:00Speaker 3: know you're all very interested, so I'm gonna get right
- 2:03Speaker 3: into it and without further ado, here's the interview with
- 2:06Speaker 3: Andrew Schaeffer, author of How to Survive a Shark Nato.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Shooting Me Today is Andrew Shafer. Andrew is a humorist
- 2:14Speaker 3: and New York Times best selling author who works include
- 2:17Speaker 3: the Great Philosophers who failed at Love The Good Reached
- 2:20Speaker 3: Choice semi finalis Fifty Shames of El L. Gray t
- 2:26Speaker 3: and sci fi is How to Survive a Shark, Nato
- 2:28Speaker 3: and other natural unnatural disasters. Andrew, how are you doing today, sir?
- 2:33Speaker 4: I'm awake. It's about three pm here on the.
- 2:38Speaker 3: West Coast, so very cool. So could you just give
- 2:43Speaker 3: us a little bit about your background and you know,
- 2:45Speaker 3: how you guys started as an author?
- 2:48Speaker 5: How I gets started as an author. I've always sort
- 2:53Speaker 5: of been I was always into reading as a child,
- 2:57Speaker 5: and I sort of thought that the natural thing then
- 3:00Speaker 5: was to start writing.
- 3:02Speaker 4: And I didn't.
- 3:02Speaker 5: I don't think I realized early on that not everybody
- 3:05Speaker 5: who who reads books, you know, gets the inclination to
- 3:09Speaker 5: also write them. It just felt like a very natural
- 3:14Speaker 5: progression to me. But early on, as a child, I
- 3:17Speaker 5: was very much into horror and science fiction. Any type
- 3:24Speaker 5: of mystery, any type of genre of fiction was really
- 3:28Speaker 5: what I sort of devoured at the time. Then I
- 3:31Speaker 5: took a little detour in terms of I went to
- 3:35Speaker 5: college where I studied at at the University of Iowa
- 3:41Speaker 5: with writers workshop students there, which is a very it's
- 3:46Speaker 5: much more of a literary.
- 3:48Speaker 4: Fiction sort of.
- 3:52Speaker 5: Training, and I got into that for a little bit
- 3:55Speaker 5: a while, but I found myself sort of gravitating more
- 3:57Speaker 5: back towards.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Genre fiction and young adult.
- 4:02Speaker 5: Just stuff that that was sort of more entertaining, I thought.
- 4:07Speaker 5: And that's kind of where I find myself right now,
- 4:09Speaker 5: is going from maybe sort of more of literary nonfiction
- 4:14Speaker 5: books moving more into genre stuff like the How to
- 4:19Speaker 5: Survive a Shark Nado.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Yeah, very cool, and that's a very important book because
- 4:24Speaker 3: we all know shark news can happen. So I wanted
- 4:28Speaker 3: to ask you, how did you actually pitch this book?
- 4:32Speaker 3: I mean, did you actually pitch it to Sci Fi
- 4:34Speaker 3: as as like, because I know in the book you
- 4:37Speaker 3: cover other of their movies too.
- 4:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:41Speaker 5: I mean the great thing about this was I watched
- 4:43Speaker 5: Shark Nado, the first movie, and I let my agent know.
- 4:48Speaker 5: I was like, if you know, if there's like a
- 4:49Speaker 5: novelization or something, I'd love to do that. Of course
- 4:53Speaker 5: there wasn't with the first movie, but then she heard
- 4:56Speaker 5: that Random House and the Sci Fi Channel we're looking
- 5:01Speaker 5: to do something with the second movie, some type of
- 5:04Speaker 5: tie in, and they had the idea to do a
- 5:07Speaker 5: survival guide sort of like the Zombie Surraval Guide by
- 5:11Speaker 5: Max Brooks, and it was something that I did, so
- 5:16Speaker 5: I don't think. I don't think originally, you know, they
- 5:18Speaker 5: thought really thought of me because I wasn't writing any
- 5:20Speaker 5: type of genre stuff at the time. I just had
- 5:23Speaker 5: a parody come out though, fifty Shames of Earth Grade,
- 5:26Speaker 5: so they kind of said, well, you kind of do
- 5:28Speaker 5: the humor writing, and I did a sample for it.
- 5:32Speaker 5: They ended up liking it and asking me to write
- 5:34Speaker 5: the book then, so it came together pretty fast.
- 5:38Speaker 4: I had to watch about, I don't know, it was like.
- 5:41Speaker 5: Thirty or forty different sci fi movies to actually write
- 5:47Speaker 5: the book and sort of ties them all together, sort
- 5:49Speaker 5: of in one universe.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Okay, excellently. So you know, when you did actually pitch
- 5:55Speaker 3: the sci fi were they really open to using all
- 5:58Speaker 3: their other movies as well. We had a.
- 6:01Speaker 4: List to go off of.
- 6:02Speaker 5: I mean, I had some that I wanted to use
- 6:04Speaker 5: that we weren't able to, but they had a list of,
- 6:08Speaker 5: you know somewhere probably about fifty or sixty that they
- 6:12Speaker 5: had licensing that we could work with, and then there
- 6:17Speaker 5: was just a munch that were off limits. So it
- 6:20Speaker 5: was basically I had to go with what they gave
- 6:22Speaker 5: me and then sort of narrow it down from there,
- 6:24Speaker 5: and then we actually ended up creating a bunch for
- 6:26Speaker 5: the for the guide books. So there's about ten or
- 6:29Speaker 5: twelve in there. I think that are actually unique and
- 6:33Speaker 5: original to the book.
- 6:35Speaker 3: And what's cool is because if you haven't seen all
- 6:37Speaker 3: the sci fi movies, you can actually go through and
- 6:40Speaker 3: try to figure out which ones are created and which
- 6:42Speaker 3: ones are actually real movies.
- 6:45Speaker 5: Yeah, that's that's the funny thing. I've had some people
- 6:47Speaker 5: pick up the book and go, how did you come
- 6:49Speaker 5: up with some of this crap? I'm like, I didn't.
- 6:54Speaker 5: You know you can actually go either like there should
- 6:57Speaker 5: be a movie about this, And I'm like, well, guess what,
- 6:59Speaker 5: you know. You you can go see a Korana Conda
- 7:02Speaker 5: movie and it's pretty amazing.
- 7:07Speaker 3: So, h could you elaborate, you know, on some of
- 7:10Speaker 3: the monsters that you wanted to use but you couldn't.
- 7:15Speaker 4: I don't I don't even really remember exactly which ones
- 7:20Speaker 4: we couldn't use off the top of my head.
- 7:23Speaker 5: But I know that you know, there were We had
- 7:26Speaker 5: to sort of narrow it down to to what what
- 7:32Speaker 5: was sort of we didn't want to have, like like
- 7:34Speaker 5: thirty different shark based ones, you know, So there were some.
- 7:39Speaker 4: But we used used most of the.
- 7:41Speaker 5: The big sci fi channel movies that that they've done
- 7:44Speaker 5: that were kind of hits, like Shark to Puss and Pirana,
- 7:47Speaker 5: Conda and stuff, even Stone at Out. So it was
- 7:52Speaker 5: so it was there wasn't really a lot that was
- 7:55Speaker 5: left on the cutting room floor.
- 7:56Speaker 3: I'd say, okay, interesting. So you know, so when you're
- 8:01Speaker 3: writing this book and you're piecing this all together, did
- 8:03Speaker 3: you actually watch each individual movie and sort of make
- 8:07Speaker 3: a list and make a lot of notes on each Oh,
- 8:10Speaker 3: oh my gosh.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:11Speaker 5: I had to watch every movie that we included three,
- 8:16Speaker 5: four or five times to really pick up everything that
- 8:20Speaker 5: was going on and kind of look at different angles
- 8:22Speaker 5: and stuff.
- 8:23Speaker 4: So it was really I approached.
- 8:25Speaker 5: It sort of like I did my non fiction books,
- 8:28Speaker 5: which was just a lot of research, and then I
- 8:30Speaker 5: had to try to figure out scientific explanations for how
- 8:35Speaker 5: some of this stuff happened in the real world.
- 8:37Speaker 4: And you know, they're.
- 8:40Speaker 5: That's not something they're thinking about really when they're making
- 8:42Speaker 5: the movie. They're thinking to make something entertaining, but to
- 8:45Speaker 5: write it down in a book, I was like, I
- 8:46Speaker 5: need to come up with reasons why you know, sharks
- 8:50Speaker 5: can survive when flying around inside of a tornado? You
- 8:55Speaker 5: know what, how do I make that sort of believable?
- 8:59Speaker 5: And so I like talked to like a marine biologist
- 9:02Speaker 5: for that, and I was like, it was like, how
- 9:04Speaker 5: did you know is this you.
- 9:06Speaker 4: Know not it could this happen?
- 9:08Speaker 5: But but what's a logical way to make this, you know, happen.
- 9:13Speaker 3: So when you when you interviewed that marine biologist, did
- 9:16Speaker 3: hear she know what shark Nada was before you talk
- 9:19Speaker 3: to them?
- 9:20Speaker 4: Oh?
- 9:20Speaker 5: Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, the biologists spoke to She was
- 9:23Speaker 5: a she was a huge fan of these sci fi
- 9:25Speaker 5: movies actually, and and was, you know, really thrilled to
- 9:29Speaker 5: answer my questions and stuff. She's like, she's like, we
- 9:32Speaker 5: really love them. They're yeah, they're I don't want to say, uh, he's.
- 9:40Speaker 4: The word terrible. I forget what word she used, but
- 9:43Speaker 4: I mean they're just they're just entertaining.
- 9:45Speaker 5: You can turn your mind off while watching them.
- 9:48Speaker 2: We'll be right back after a word from our sponsor,
- 9:54Speaker 2: and now back to the show.
- 9:58Speaker 5: And you don't have to worry about the scientific stuff
- 10:00Speaker 5: behind it. And I said, it's just just for pure
- 10:02Speaker 5: you know, entertainment value.
- 10:05Speaker 3: You know, I was just you know, when you brought
- 10:07Speaker 3: that up, I was actually wondering, you know, if if
- 10:09Speaker 3: if she hadn't heard of that, and you just went,
- 10:11Speaker 3: you know, uh, you know, could a shark and a
- 10:13Speaker 3: tornado come together? And she would have been like, could
- 10:16Speaker 3: you get this crazy man out of my office? Please?
- 10:19Speaker 4: I know, I know, yeah.
- 10:21Speaker 5: So yeah, So some of that stuff, you know, was
- 10:25Speaker 5: was a lot of fun to sort of research, you know,
- 10:27Speaker 5: and then there's other stuff. I mean, I think there
- 10:29Speaker 5: was one movie that I watched that I watched it
- 10:33Speaker 5: probably ten times, and I couldn't figure out anyway not
- 10:36Speaker 5: only to make the science work in real life, but
- 10:39Speaker 5: I couldn't figure out how the science worked.
- 10:40Speaker 4: In the movie.
- 10:41Speaker 5: I was like, this movie doesn't really make much sense.
- 10:44Speaker 5: And I was like, I'm probably gonna cut this one.
- 10:46Speaker 4: Out of the book.
- 10:49Speaker 3: So you know, you know, you now you wrote this
- 10:53Speaker 3: book during the UH and it coincided with the release
- 10:56Speaker 3: of Sharknado two. So you know, so now with Shark
- 11:01Speaker 3: Hair three coming out, you know, I wanted to ask you, what,
- 11:04Speaker 3: what are some of your expectations about Sharknair three.
- 11:09Speaker 5: You know, I really didn't have any expectations even for
- 11:12Speaker 5: the second Sharknado because I hadn't I hadn't seen it
- 11:16Speaker 5: ahead of time or read the script or anything.
- 11:18Speaker 4: So the second one itself was kind of a surprise.
- 11:22Speaker 5: I kind of, you know, had an idea of that
- 11:25Speaker 5: it would kind of be a little bit more meta
- 11:27Speaker 5: than the first one, and it was. And so the
- 11:30Speaker 5: third one, I'm you know, I was I'm kind of
- 11:35Speaker 5: hoping it goes a little bit back to.
- 11:38Speaker 4: Basics.
- 11:38Speaker 5: But which is you know, really taking the concept as
- 11:44Speaker 5: seriously as possible.
- 11:46Speaker 4: I think it's something that once it gets.
- 11:48Speaker 5: To meta, it becomes if everybody's in on the joke,
- 11:53Speaker 5: you know, than than the joke itself.
- 11:54Speaker 4: Isn't that funny anymore?
- 11:57Speaker 5: So I kind of like, see and we're serious, But
- 12:01Speaker 5: but I don't really know what direction they're gonna take it. Yeah,
- 12:05Speaker 5: I want to say, a more personal Sharknado film. Maybe
- 12:09Speaker 5: that's where you have to reboot the franchise.
- 12:11Speaker 3: And yeah, I really want to see a more like
- 12:16Speaker 3: uh David Lynchian Sharknado film, you know. But but yeah,
- 12:21Speaker 3: you know, I completely agree with you on that point.
- 12:25Speaker 3: I you know, I also noticed that in the second
- 12:28Speaker 3: one there was a lot more celebrity cameos, like pretty much,
- 12:32Speaker 3: you know what I mean, Like every time they went somewhere,
- 12:34Speaker 3: there's a celebrity I hear. Now there's like even more
- 12:38Speaker 3: celebrities and Sharknado three.
- 12:40Speaker 5: Oh yeah, it's everybody wanted to wants to, you know,
- 12:43Speaker 5: be in on it, be on on a joke.
- 12:45Speaker 4: And I think, you know, I don't know.
- 12:47Speaker 5: If it's a situation where the celebrities are just contacting
- 12:51Speaker 5: them and say I'll work for no money or something,
- 12:53Speaker 5: and they're like, how can we refuse that?
- 12:56Speaker 4: You know, they really can't say.
- 12:59Speaker 5: You know, if even Hasselhoff wants to be in your
- 13:01Speaker 5: movie or something, they for no money, it really can't
- 13:04Speaker 5: say no to that. It's not like they're recording these celebrities,
- 13:08Speaker 5: I would think. So, I mean, yeah, I think it's
- 13:12Speaker 5: just gonna have It's definitely gonna have more celebrity cameos.
- 13:16Speaker 5: If you tried to play a celebrity cameo with drinking
- 13:19Speaker 5: game or something with Sharp Nato too, you would have died.
- 13:23Speaker 4: I mean, there were so many that are coming so
- 13:24Speaker 4: fast you didn't even know. You know, you can't even
- 13:28Speaker 4: tell who was an actor, who was a celebrity.
- 13:31Speaker 2: You know, it was.
- 13:31Speaker 3: It was.
- 13:32Speaker 4: It came pretty.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Fast and curious it did. And I think you're right too.
- 13:37Speaker 3: I think there might have been called people who who
- 13:39Speaker 3: attempted to do a drinking game and the results probably
- 13:43Speaker 3: weren't so well for them. So you're jumping back to
- 13:47Speaker 3: your book, you know, in the chapter you have an
- 13:49Speaker 3: entire you know chapter obviously just to shark nado. So
- 13:53Speaker 3: you know, I have to answer a question, is, you know,
- 13:56Speaker 3: how do you survive a shark nado?
- 14:01Speaker 4: How do you survive a sharpnado?
- 14:04Speaker 5: A lot of people said just don't watch it, but
- 14:09Speaker 5: I mean, I mean this simple answer of you know,
- 14:12Speaker 5: how do you survive a sharknado? Is some people think, oh,
- 14:15Speaker 5: well I survive I survive it by uh, you know,
- 14:19Speaker 5: going to the basement, same way and survive a tornado,
- 14:23Speaker 5: which really doesn't work because a lot of times during
- 14:25Speaker 5: a sharknado you also have associated flooding with that. The
- 14:30Speaker 5: only way to really escape it is to just drive
- 14:34Speaker 5: as fast as possible out of town, which if you're
- 14:36Speaker 5: in LA or someplace elsewhere, there's going to be a
- 14:40Speaker 5: bunch of traffic jams or something that's just not going
- 14:42Speaker 5: to be possible.
- 14:44Speaker 4: So you know, there's there's really no good answer that
- 14:49Speaker 4: you know.
- 14:49Speaker 5: The answer in the book is you know, stand and fight,
- 14:52Speaker 5: you know, grab a chainsaw, grab.
- 14:54Speaker 4: Whatever you can, and you know, and and.
- 14:57Speaker 5: Fight back when these things flying at you. So you know,
- 15:03Speaker 5: But I but personally, I'm I'm not like a survivalist
- 15:06Speaker 5: or anything. I mean, I had to research survival stuff
- 15:09Speaker 5: for the book, but I don't, you know, I don't.
- 15:13Speaker 5: I'm so bad about falling in real life, you know,
- 15:14Speaker 5: and like I don't have like a unnatural disaster, kid,
- 15:18Speaker 5: I don't have, you know, three palettes of bolbed water
- 15:21Speaker 5: stored up here, which I probably should.
- 15:24Speaker 4: Uh.
- 15:25Speaker 5: After reading that New Yorker article on on earthquakes on
- 15:30Speaker 5: the Pacific Northwest.
- 15:31Speaker 4: This week, so.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I read that same article. Apparently in fifty years,
- 15:38Speaker 3: Seattle is just going to be nothing.
- 15:40Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, Seattle is going to get the worst of it.
- 15:42Speaker 5: I think Portland, where I'm at, it's you know, it's uh,
- 15:45Speaker 5: there's going to be some some stuff fall off the
- 15:49Speaker 5: wall or something.
- 15:51Speaker 4: I don't know, it's not it's not gonna be too
- 15:52Speaker 4: bad in Portland, I don't think.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Yeah, And just in case he doesn't know what Andrew
- 15:57Speaker 3: and I are talking about. I'll link to that in
- 15:59Speaker 3: the show notes so you can read up on that
- 16:01Speaker 3: and then uh, you know, get scared to death. You'd
- 16:04Speaker 3: be like, oh my god. So you know, uh, Andrew,
- 16:07Speaker 3: I've had some some fan questions come in if you
- 16:10Speaker 3: don't mind answering a few, sure. So the first question
- 16:14Speaker 3: I received was, Andrew, what was the most unstoppable monster
- 16:19Speaker 3: that you researched for the book.
- 16:22Speaker 4: The most unstoppable monster was the ghost shark.
- 16:27Speaker 5: Because there's just really no good way to stop a
- 16:32Speaker 5: ghost trage like like there. It was actually a movie
- 16:36Speaker 5: too with with the guy from uh Bowl from Night Court.
- 16:42Speaker 4: I was in this movie and.
- 16:46Speaker 5: This shoke appeared manifested anywhere there was water, so it
- 16:51Speaker 5: was in a swimming pool, one came out of a toilet,
- 16:54Speaker 5: another came out of a bobble of water, and there
- 16:57Speaker 5: was no way to get away from it anywhere, you win.
- 17:00Speaker 5: I was just like, and it never got full of
- 17:02Speaker 5: eating people, so it.
- 17:04Speaker 4: Just went around and around this.
- 17:06Speaker 5: Eating people and stuff. And I'm like, how do you
- 17:09Speaker 5: stop this thing? And I'm trying to think of you
- 17:14Speaker 5: know there you basically it's you have to do some
- 17:19Speaker 5: elaborate ghost trapping or something. But but really it was
- 17:25Speaker 5: like it was like on on on, you know, on
- 17:28Speaker 5: one to one level, you know, on an individual level,
- 17:31Speaker 5: there was nothing you could do to stop it besides
- 17:34Speaker 5: find the the whatever.
- 17:36Speaker 4: Talisman it was in the movie. So yeah, ghost try.
- 17:40Speaker 4: Pretty frightening stuff.
- 17:42Speaker 5: Now.
- 17:42Speaker 3: See, I'll have to check that movie out because I
- 17:44Speaker 3: had no idea that was actually a real movie.
- 17:47Speaker 5: Oh my god, it is amazing. It's just just the
- 17:51Speaker 5: number of uh number. There's there's this amazing bikini car
- 17:57Speaker 5: wash scene where where the ghost Sharp materializes out of
- 18:02Speaker 5: a bucket of water.
- 18:03Speaker 4: It's it's just crazy.
- 18:08Speaker 3: Uh. So you know, a follow up question is, you know, Andrew,
- 18:12Speaker 3: are you playing on writing a sequel to the book?
- 18:17Speaker 1: Uh?
- 18:17Speaker 5: No, no, uh And basically I think, you know, I don't.
- 18:23Speaker 5: I don't know what else I could say about Sharp
- 18:25Speaker 5: Natos or actually about most paranormal threats or supernatural stuff
- 18:31Speaker 5: like that. But but I am working on another book
- 18:36Speaker 5: that will hopefully be sort of along the similar lines
- 18:40Speaker 5: as far as horror goes.
- 18:44Speaker 3: Oh, very cool. Could you tell us a little bit
- 18:46Speaker 3: about it or you want to keep it hush hush?
- 18:48Speaker 4: Uh, It's like super hush, hush, right now.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Okay, so all right, and then on to the next
- 18:54Speaker 3: question we had come in from Michelle the trainer, who
- 18:58Speaker 3: was a big fan of the show. Uh, is Andrew
- 19:01Speaker 3: a scuba diver?
- 19:03Speaker 4: Uh?
- 19:03Speaker 3: Conservationalist or so? I'm sorry that was the first part
- 19:08Speaker 3: of the question. Sorry, I was just reading or reading reading. Uh,
- 19:11Speaker 3: so are you a scuba diver? Andrew? No, I'm not.
- 19:13Speaker 4: No, No, I've never gone scuba diving.
- 19:16Speaker 3: And uh. The second part of that was any plans
- 19:19Speaker 3: for Shark Depuss?
- 19:23Speaker 4: Well, I like survival for the shark to puss.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Yeah, so the Shark.
- 19:29Speaker 4: Depus is in the book, but in terms of uh, there's.
- 19:33Speaker 5: A new movie coming out Shark de Purse Versus Whale
- 19:36Speaker 5: woof which is the third Shark Depus movie, and and
- 19:42Speaker 5: which are which again if you haven't seen the Shark
- 19:45Speaker 5: Depus movies, those are phenomenally entertaining as well. But in
- 19:50Speaker 5: terms of how to survive as shark de plus again,
- 19:53Speaker 5: it was like I started to write some of some
- 19:56Speaker 5: of these and I was like, the best thing you
- 19:58Speaker 5: can do is just to to move as far away
- 20:01Speaker 5: from the coast as possible.
- 20:04Speaker 2: We'll be right back after a word from our sponsor
- 20:10Speaker 2: and now back to the show.
- 20:15Speaker 5: Because a lot of these threats in the book that
- 20:17Speaker 5: I wrote about were all like sort of water based threats,
- 20:19Speaker 5: and I'm like, unless you like live in Florida or
- 20:22Speaker 5: La or something or along the coast, you're fine. But
- 20:26Speaker 5: then you get inland. And then I said, then you
- 20:28Speaker 5: find yourself in Nebraska, and I mean, I don't know,
- 20:34Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 20:35Speaker 3: So so I the next question that came in was
- 20:41Speaker 3: if Andrew is going to create his own sci fi monster,
- 20:44Speaker 3: what kind of monster would he create?
- 20:48Speaker 4: Well, I think that what kind of monster I would create.
- 20:55Speaker 5: I had an idea for one that was not used
- 21:01Speaker 5: in the book, and it was called a wolf blizzard,
- 21:04Speaker 5: which was a pun on the CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer,
- 21:08Speaker 5: and it was just a blizzard of wolves. And that
- 21:12Speaker 5: actually got rejected for the book because they were like,
- 21:14Speaker 5: it's it's the pun is too far. Like it's They're like,
- 21:18Speaker 5: there's like an there's like a line that we would
- 21:21Speaker 5: never go past, and you just passed it.
- 21:23Speaker 4: And I was like, oh my god, I.
- 21:27Speaker 5: Can't believe I found the line where you will not cross.
- 21:31Speaker 4: So but I would still like to to. I was like,
- 21:35Speaker 4: I was like I'm going to go write this script.
- 21:39Speaker 3: So for all the aspiring writers listening to this, Andrew
- 21:42Speaker 3: has just shown you the line in the sand that
- 21:44Speaker 3: sci Fi channel will not cross.
- 21:47Speaker 4: Yes.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Yes, So Andrew, I wanted to ask right now, you know,
- 21:54Speaker 3: what are your future plans on publishing. I know there's
- 21:57Speaker 3: a project that's very hush hush, but is there any
- 21:59Speaker 3: other projects you work you one, or anything else you
- 22:01Speaker 3: could tell us about right now?
- 22:03Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm also working on a on a young adult
- 22:06Speaker 5: novel that That's something I've been working on for a while.
- 22:12Speaker 5: I've got a few things that are like in the pipeline,
- 22:14Speaker 5: but it's just like you get a fine, you know,
- 22:18Speaker 5: find the right sort of place for them at a
- 22:20Speaker 5: publisher or either self publish it or whatever, and and
- 22:25Speaker 5: just got to wait for sort of the stars to
- 22:26Speaker 5: align and until that happens, like I don't have any
- 22:31Speaker 5: good news to announce. It's kind of boring, Like it's
- 22:33Speaker 5: something my mom calls me all the time and says, oh,
- 22:36Speaker 5: when's your next book coming out?
- 22:37Speaker 4: And I'm like, I don't know.
- 22:38Speaker 5: It'll be the first one to know, don't worry.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Uh.
- 22:45Speaker 3: So, Andrew, I wanted to ask you to you know
- 22:46Speaker 3: your your book Sharknado was on sale. Is it still
- 22:50Speaker 3: on sale right now? Yeah?
- 22:53Speaker 5: As of today it is for us for like a
- 22:55Speaker 5: dollar in a ninety book. I don't know how long
- 22:57Speaker 5: the sale is going to last.
- 22:58Speaker 3: So okay, so when this is up, I'm, you know,
- 23:02Speaker 3: hopefully I will link to Andrew's book in the show notes.
- 23:05Speaker 3: Hopefully it'll If it's not on sale, it's still a
- 23:08Speaker 3: relatively goodbye. And I guarantee you it's it is. You know,
- 23:12Speaker 3: it's entertaining, it's hilarious, and look at me. I've learned
- 23:15Speaker 3: a lot about the Sci Fi Channel movies because I'm
- 23:18Speaker 3: I you know, I've learn about Ghost Shark today.
- 23:20Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's a value at any price, you know.
- 23:23Speaker 5: And the book is like forty megabytes because it has
- 23:26Speaker 5: a bunch of drawings in it, so you know, that's
- 23:28Speaker 5: about twenty times the size of another final download for
- 23:32Speaker 5: a regular pros book.
- 23:34Speaker 4: So I mean, you know, that's what a deal.
- 23:37Speaker 6: Right, Yeah, Because when I was flipping through it, I
- 23:40Speaker 6: went to obviously, I went to the Shark Nado chapter
- 23:44Speaker 6: and greeting me is a you know, a black and
- 23:46Speaker 6: white hand drawn picture of of a shark Nado right,
- 23:50Speaker 6: right right.
- 23:51Speaker 5: I mean, and the book's got recipes, you know, excerpts
- 23:57Speaker 5: from classic literature that I have completely trashed, such as
- 24:03Speaker 5: Mobi Dick.
- 24:04Speaker 4: So yeah, it's got a lot of stuff in there.
- 24:07Speaker 3: It's got something for everybody. So, you know, Andrew, in closing,
- 24:12Speaker 3: you know, is there anything that we didn't talk about
- 24:15Speaker 3: today that you wanted to mention or any any you know,
- 24:18Speaker 3: closing thoughts or final thoughts.
- 24:22Speaker 5: No, my mind is, My mind is completely blank. I
- 24:25Speaker 5: do it like this meditation class right now. So I'm
- 24:27Speaker 5: learning to sort of wipe away all thoughts in my mind.
- 24:32Speaker 5: You know, normally I would have one hundred things to
- 24:34Speaker 5: talk about right now, but right now it's just.
- 24:36Speaker 4: Like it's I'm I'm learning to zie out and go blank.
- 24:42Speaker 3: All right, Andrew, where do you'll find you out online?
- 24:46Speaker 5: Oh?
- 24:46Speaker 4: My goodness? Anywhere?
- 24:49Speaker 5: Twitter, Facebook, Google. You know, al someone has to do
- 24:52Speaker 5: is Google my name Andrew Schaeffer s H A F
- 24:56Speaker 5: F E R. As long as they spell it right,
- 24:59Speaker 5: they can by me, you know, which is you know,
- 25:03Speaker 5: kind of disturbing.
- 25:04Speaker 3: But I'm all over the place, and and I'll make
- 25:09Speaker 3: sure to uh to link to all that in the
- 25:11Speaker 3: show notes too. I'll link to your website and your Twitter.
- 25:14Speaker 4: Uh, you don't. You don't have to just make them
- 25:15Speaker 4: work for it.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Work for it, Okay. I will not link to Andrew's
- 25:20Speaker 3: uh info in the show notes, so you will have
- 25:23Speaker 3: to work for it.
- 25:24Speaker 5: Then.
- 25:25Speaker 3: Yes, it will be the first time, but I will
- 25:27Speaker 3: not I promise you I will not link to that
- 25:29Speaker 3: in the show notes. Andrew Wannessy, thank you very much
- 25:33Speaker 3: for coming on again. Everyone. It's how to Survive a
- 25:37Speaker 3: shark Nado and other unnatural Disasters. That it's I will
- 25:40Speaker 3: link to the I will link to this and the
- 25:42Speaker 3: show notes, but it's right to the kindle version. And uh,
- 25:44Speaker 3: is there a physical version of this book?
- 25:46Speaker 5: To Andrew, there is there is because you know, once
- 25:50Speaker 5: once a short nado or some other type of disaster,
- 25:52Speaker 5: it hits and you need the physical version, you know,
- 25:56Speaker 5: and you can be able to charge your phone or whatnot.
- 25:59Speaker 5: So you know, I always advise people to get the
- 26:01Speaker 5: e book and the physical version and it just to
- 26:04Speaker 5: be on the safe side.
- 26:05Speaker 3: See, that's why you're the publisher, because that's that that
- 26:08Speaker 3: is forethought, my friend. Yes, yes, exactly, yeah, you won't
- 26:12Speaker 3: have that's right, so you know, the physical the ebook,
- 26:15Speaker 3: I have you know. If it does the power goes out,
- 26:17Speaker 3: I won't be able to find it, so I'll have
- 26:19Speaker 3: to look into the physical version now too.
- 26:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:21Speaker 3: Yeah, so Andrew, I want to say thank you so
- 26:25Speaker 3: much for coming on. Everyone in the book is How
- 26:28Speaker 3: to Survivors Shark Nato. Andrew, thanks again for coming on,
- 26:31Speaker 3: and again feel free to you know, drop me an
- 26:33Speaker 3: email anytime and I love to have you back sometime.
- 26:35Speaker 4: Yeah. Great chat with you.
