- 0:16Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode one twenty five of
- 0:19Speaker 1: Cards and Categories. I'm my Cool Egg from Rasball, joined
- 0:23Speaker 1: as always by my very good friend Jeremy Brewer, also
- 0:26Speaker 1: from Rasball.
- 0:27Speaker 2: How are you doing tonight, buddy, Hanging in there, hanging
- 0:30Speaker 2: in there and joining life ready talks from baseball though,
- 0:32Speaker 2: that's for sure, it's been a week since we've talked that.
- 0:35Speaker 2: I've been looking forward to the whole time. I'm just
- 0:37Speaker 2: absolutely loving our breakdowns, all the visions this year, having
- 0:40Speaker 2: a blast with all of our guests. But we've got
- 0:42Speaker 2: some stuff to talk about first before we get there,
- 0:44Speaker 2: and I'll let you better lead with who we've got
- 0:47Speaker 2: joined us today.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, I mean we are gonna be doing the
- 0:50Speaker 1: Al West this week. We're gonna be joined once again
- 0:53Speaker 1: by Sam Wishing, one of the biggest Seattle Mariners fans
- 0:56Speaker 1: I know, I mean, actually of the ones I know personally.
- 0:59Speaker 1: He's the b I guess, so I guess I'll give
- 1:02Speaker 1: them credit for that. But it's a we have a
- 1:05Speaker 1: great preview of the Al West coming up. Lots of
- 1:08Speaker 1: fantastic kind of tidbits that we've got throughout that discussion,
- 1:11Speaker 1: as well as I think exciting buys and cells across
- 1:15Speaker 1: the board in the Al West, lots of very different
- 1:18Speaker 1: teams going different directions, and that opens up lots of
- 1:22Speaker 1: different opportunities for our fantasy game. So we are speaking
- 1:25Speaker 1: on February fourth. We're just got the Super Bowl right
- 1:28Speaker 1: around the corner. But that also means that we've got
- 1:31Speaker 1: pictures and catchers and the heart of fantasy drafting season right.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Around the corner as well.
- 1:36Speaker 1: So with all that, let's get into these news and notes,
- 1:39Speaker 1: because we just have a handful. Like we discussed last week,
- 1:43Speaker 1: things are really slow into crawl as people really gear
- 1:47Speaker 1: up and prep for spring training and kind of get
- 1:49Speaker 1: everything set up and not focusing quite as much on
- 1:52Speaker 1: the transactions. But still had a handful, including one that
- 1:56Speaker 1: broke literally like right before we started recording tonight fromber
- 2:00Speaker 1: Valdez from the formerly the Houston Astros. South Paus signing
- 2:05Speaker 1: with the Detroit Tigers three years, one hundred and fifteen
- 2:08Speaker 1: million dollars to join the Tigers. A big signing for
- 2:12Speaker 1: Detroit after it's been a pretty low key offseason, even
- 2:16Speaker 1: though you know they had Torres and Finnegan sign those
- 2:20Speaker 1: were both returnees. Ken Lee Jansen joined the fold. And
- 2:24Speaker 1: there's also a bit of news today that, like the
- 2:27Speaker 1: Tiger said Kenley, Jansen is the closer. So we had
- 2:30Speaker 1: been speculating that I think you can lock and load
- 2:32Speaker 1: that for Jansen throughout twenty twenty six. Now it's gonna
- 2:36Speaker 1: shoot his draft price, I think.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Up a little bit.
- 2:39Speaker 1: But let's get back to Framber Valdez. It was another
- 2:43Speaker 1: Framber year, I would say, just overall last year, thirteen
- 2:46Speaker 1: and eleven record with those astros out over one hundred
- 2:49Speaker 1: and ninety two innings, just under one strikeout per inning,
- 2:53Speaker 1: a three sixty six YRA. But I mean the fip
- 2:56Speaker 1: was right in the wheelhouse of where he's always at
- 2:58Speaker 1: in the mid threes, at three three, and the whip
- 3:02Speaker 1: also kind of backed up on him a little bit
- 3:05Speaker 1: because of that difference between his fipp and ra.
- 3:08Speaker 3: It was a one twenty four whip, But you look
- 3:11Speaker 3: at it was a little bit.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I mean, he's always been a very low batting average guy,
- 3:14Speaker 1: and it was a little anomalist last year.
- 3:17Speaker 3: The babbit creeped up a little bit.
- 3:19Speaker 1: You do almost kind of wonder if like that's Jose
- 3:22Speaker 1: Altuvey's age and action for him, But it's a great
- 3:26Speaker 1: landing spot. I think in Detroit for Framber here al
- 3:29Speaker 1: Central Detroit Tigers great home ballpark plays cold as hell
- 3:34Speaker 1: for like the first two months, So I don't know
- 3:37Speaker 1: if you could have asked for a better landing spot.
- 3:39Speaker 1: But he also entered this free agency period with a
- 3:42Speaker 1: little bit of like a question mark on his profile,
- 3:44Speaker 1: just given that strained cross up with his catcher in
- 3:48Speaker 1: September where there was a grand Slam that he gave
- 3:52Speaker 1: up and then he just like pegged his catcher right
- 3:54Speaker 1: in the chest. That it was the talk when that
- 3:57Speaker 1: happened all throughout the league, and you wonder, you know,
- 4:00Speaker 1: so how that impacted his free agency because this is
- 4:02Speaker 1: probably a little bit less than most people were pegging
- 4:05Speaker 1: him for. But what do you think about Farander Valdez
- 4:07Speaker 1: joining the Tigers and what it could mean for his
- 4:09Speaker 1: twenty twenty sixth season.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you hit pretty much on the head.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Like he has been consistent is all get out for
- 4:15Speaker 2: the last four years. We're talking to guys pretty much
- 4:18Speaker 2: a two hundred inning guy right on the border of that,
- 4:21Speaker 2: pretty much a strikeout for inning. You know, we're talking
- 4:23Speaker 2: about a three to three and a half era. He's
- 4:26Speaker 2: gonna be a groundball artist. He's gonna keep it on
- 4:29Speaker 2: the ground. Like there's a lot of things to like here.
- 4:31Speaker 2: I think it's a great landing spot in Detroit. So
- 4:33Speaker 2: I think you can kind of basically look at the
- 4:35Speaker 2: last few years, just turn it around, lock and load,
- 4:37Speaker 2: and move forward. He is going kind of towards a
- 4:41Speaker 2: later part of the one top one hundred picks this year,
- 4:45Speaker 2: and you know, I think that he might get a
- 4:47Speaker 2: little bit boost after this. This call was right in
- 4:50Speaker 2: the kind of like Noel McLain Sinster Strider, Brandon Woodriff,
- 4:53Speaker 2: Chase Burns type area. And it feels like, you know,
- 4:56Speaker 2: Valdez is probably the safest pick in that range. Maybe
- 4:59Speaker 2: not the highest up side, but I mean, he's just
- 5:01Speaker 2: he's gonna deliver, he's gonna be healthy, he's gonna do
- 5:03Speaker 2: all those things for you, so you gotta like it.
- 5:06Speaker 4: Overall.
- 5:07Speaker 3: I think you're right.
- 5:07Speaker 2: There's some new questions in the clubhouse quality. So it
- 5:10Speaker 2: depends how you construct your fancy rosters. If you care
- 5:13Speaker 2: about those clubhouse dynamics, you probably shouldn't, but if you do,
- 5:16Speaker 2: hey power to you. So good landing spot for Valdez
- 5:20Speaker 2: probably gonna booses draft price a little bit here, but
- 5:23Speaker 2: still it's gonna be a solid, solid pick.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think it's probably gonna move him up,
- 5:28Speaker 1: probably right around like pick eighty. You've got like Kyle Bradish,
- 5:32Speaker 1: Dylan c he's a Sozarto Blake Snell being being drafted.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I think that's probably where Valdez will settle now that
- 5:39Speaker 1: we know that he's in Detroit, and it's a really
- 5:42Speaker 1: good landing spot for him that you can pretty much
- 5:45Speaker 1: set and forget a mid three Zra out of one
- 5:49Speaker 1: one five ish whip and a solid team one strikeout
- 5:52Speaker 1: burn inning.
- 5:53Speaker 3: And the winds will be there.
- 5:54Speaker 1: So it's a it's a nice spot if you did
- 5:56Speaker 1: take an early dart on Valdez before.
- 5:59Speaker 3: You knew the landing spot.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Okay, well, we've got a trade that is the next
- 6:04Speaker 1: major piece of news, and then it involves our Saint
- 6:07Speaker 1: Louis Cardinals and one of our favorites, Brendan Donovan. He's
- 6:10Speaker 1: being sent to the Seattle Mariners. In exchange, the Cardinals
- 6:15Speaker 1: are getting back Durangelo Singente and ty Pete from the Mariners.
- 6:19Speaker 1: The Rays butted in here to be able to complete
- 6:21Speaker 1: this and make this a three way trade.
- 6:23Speaker 3: They said, yeah.
- 6:24Speaker 1: When when it first broke, everybody on social media is like, oh,
- 6:28Speaker 1: the Ray's are about to pull William Contreras and butt
- 6:31Speaker 1: in the way that the Brewers got into the middle
- 6:34Speaker 1: of the trade to get conturroists that like, uh, there
- 6:37Speaker 1: was worry that the Rays would come in and walk
- 6:40Speaker 1: away with one of the Cardinals catchers.
- 6:42Speaker 3: They did not.
- 6:42Speaker 1: They walked away with Ben Williamson from the Mariners, gave
- 6:45Speaker 1: up Colton Ledbetter and a competitive balance b pick, so
- 6:50Speaker 1: Ledbetter goes to the Cardinals, the Mariners get Brandon Donovan.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Let's start with the Brendan Donovan side of this has
- 6:57Speaker 1: been a pretty steady, like two to eighty hitter play
- 7:00Speaker 1: around the diamond. Was a little more banged up last year,
- 7:03Speaker 1: but has been, you know, a solid kind of m
- 7:06Speaker 1: I second base option. I think in fantasy any change.
- 7:10Speaker 1: You've seen this profile going to Seattle. We know it's
- 7:12Speaker 1: kind of a tough place to hit, But we talked
- 7:15Speaker 1: about this a little bit last year. It seems that
- 7:18Speaker 1: the Mariners put something together with that hitting coach in
- 7:22Speaker 1: Edgar Martinez and trying to find a way around some
- 7:25Speaker 1: of the peculiarities there and it showed in the stats
- 7:28Speaker 1: for the Marriners. So what do you think about Donovan
- 7:30Speaker 1: landing in Seattle? Yeah, I mean Saint Louis was the
- 7:33Speaker 1: best ballpark. Seattle's not the best ballpark. So I think
- 7:35Speaker 1: it's gonna be relatively neutral. Better lineup, and you have
- 7:38Speaker 1: talked about.
- 7:39Speaker 3: I think Sat.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Louis Lam's gonna surprise some folks, but overall the Seattle
- 7:42Speaker 2: is gonna have a better light up there.
- 7:45Speaker 3: You know, Donovan is is definitely the.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Epitome of the better real world ballplayer than a fantasy player.
- 7:51Speaker 3: There's no question about that.
- 7:52Speaker 2: His versatility, you know, if you want to call it,
- 7:54Speaker 2: clutch hitting, things like that, and there's all the metrics
- 7:56Speaker 2: that like say and that that's not really a thing.
- 7:59Speaker 2: That's that's superndana is and he's gonna be a jolt
- 8:02Speaker 2: to that to that team. They're gonna love him. There's
- 8:05Speaker 2: there's no question about it. You know, gold Glover, this
- 8:08Speaker 2: guy could, this guy is gonna be good. From a
- 8:10Speaker 2: fancy perspective, I think his value is probably neutral. I mean,
- 8:14Speaker 2: he's going off the draft board pretty late, uh to
- 8:19Speaker 2: eighty h pick in there somewhere, And to your point,
- 8:23Speaker 2: he's gonna be that kind of middle endfield. He's a
- 8:24Speaker 2: guy I really like, really at the end of the drafts,
- 8:27Speaker 2: and you can plug him in a lot of different spots,
- 8:30Speaker 2: especially if you were trying to fill out a bench
- 8:32Speaker 2: and give yourself some flexibility if somebody gets hurt, Britten
- 8:35Speaker 2: Donovan is your guy because he's probably got eligibility all
- 8:39Speaker 2: over the place. Who knows exactly what Seatle's gonna do
- 8:42Speaker 2: with him. You know, they're probably gonna give him the mostly
- 8:43Speaker 2: run at second, but hey, he had second, third, short
- 8:47Speaker 2: and outfield last year in first as well. If you're
- 8:51Speaker 2: sitting at kind of a five game minimum, he has
- 8:53Speaker 2: all kinds of eligibility if you if you bump that
- 8:55Speaker 2: up to ten, it gets pretty thin pretty quick because
- 8:57Speaker 2: he's played mostly you know, in a little bit in
- 9:01Speaker 2: the outfield. But yeah, I think his value is relatively neutral.
- 9:04Speaker 2: But he's gonna be a lot of fantasy rosters just
- 9:08Speaker 2: kind of rounding things out because of that versatility.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think he'll be playing third for
- 9:13Speaker 1: the Mariners is where he's probably still right right well,
- 9:17Speaker 1: I mean, I mean it's because it's Colt Young there
- 9:20Speaker 1: at second, But what it also does for the Mariners.
- 9:22Speaker 1: It gives them flexibility because Colt Emerson, the other cult
- 9:26Speaker 1: is hanging out in the wings and had a great
- 9:27Speaker 1: season last year, but is a short stop. But I
- 9:30Speaker 1: don't think he's gonna overtake JP Crawford just because Crawford's
- 9:34Speaker 1: so goot the glove. But this does give them a
- 9:37Speaker 1: little more flexibility because I think, uh, at least from
- 9:41Speaker 1: what I've read in prospect of reports, it seems like
- 9:44Speaker 1: Emerson would be better served to play third base than
- 9:47Speaker 1: Cold Young is. And so if Colt Emerson brings it,
- 9:52Speaker 1: I guess it's Cold Young and Colt is Young and
- 9:57Speaker 1: all these caids and like all these other names coming
- 10:00Speaker 1: through these gen z sorts. But between Emerson and Young,
- 10:05Speaker 1: whoever wins that job out of the spring, it dictates
- 10:09Speaker 1: I think where Donovan plays. Donovan plays second. If Emerson
- 10:12Speaker 1: wins the job, he plays third. If Young wins the job,
- 10:15Speaker 1: So something to watch. But let's get into the cardinal
- 10:19Speaker 1: side of this, because this is a trio of prospects
- 10:21Speaker 1: that is pretty exciting I think for Saint Louis. First,
- 10:24Speaker 1: Let's let's start with Darangelo Singente was probably the most
- 10:28Speaker 1: well known prospect that came back. He was a first
- 10:32Speaker 1: round pick for the Mariners in twenty twenty four. Is
- 10:34Speaker 1: a switch pitcher out of Mississippi State, but is better
- 10:37Speaker 1: from the right side than the left side. The Cardinals
- 10:40Speaker 1: right now aren't totally sure what they're going to do
- 10:43Speaker 1: with him going forward, because you could take a lot
- 10:46Speaker 1: of different paths with Singente. He's coming off of a
- 10:48Speaker 1: year in twenty twenty five across high A and double A,
- 10:51Speaker 1: A three nine nine ERA with a four to eighty
- 10:54Speaker 1: six fit mostly because the walks are a little bit
- 10:57Speaker 1: of an issue for him, but electric fastball from the
- 10:59Speaker 1: right side, he's going to be I think a very
- 11:02Speaker 1: intriguing arm to watch to see what the Cardinals do
- 11:04Speaker 1: with him. Type is an intriguing player. Was a comp
- 11:11Speaker 1: pick back in twenty twenty three, very raw, very young.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Put up only a seventy nine WRC plus and a
- 11:17Speaker 1: ball eight high A ball last year, but it was
- 11:20Speaker 1: as a nineteen year old with nineteen homers and twenty
- 11:23Speaker 1: five stone bases. Then we get on to the addition
- 11:27Speaker 1: from the Rays, who was Colton Ledbetter. This was my
- 11:30Speaker 1: pick to click for twenty twenty five from the Rays
- 11:32Speaker 1: when we were doing our previews back in you know
- 11:36Speaker 1: this time last year, solid season at Double A as
- 11:40Speaker 1: a twenty three year old, seven homers, thirty seven stolen bases,
- 11:43Speaker 1: a one to twelve WRC plus was a second round
- 11:46Speaker 1: pick out of Mississippi State. I actually didn't know that
- 11:49Speaker 1: teammates which Rangel Singente back in the day, So that's
- 11:51Speaker 1: kind of cool bringing them back together. What do you
- 11:54Speaker 1: think about these prospects coming back from the Cardinals and
- 11:57Speaker 1: any up arrows you're giving to them because.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Of they're joining a different system in Saint Louis. Yeah,
- 12:03Speaker 3: I mean, I think you have to look at all
- 12:05Speaker 3: like him.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Bloom's doing, first of all, a fantastic job, of my opinion,
- 12:10Speaker 2: and he's taking high risk, high reward guys here. That's
- 12:13Speaker 2: what that's almost all these guys are. Maybe leed Better
- 12:16Speaker 2: got a little bit more of a floor than a ceiling.
- 12:19Speaker 2: At the end of the day, I think Sagente is
- 12:21Speaker 2: the guy here that you're really excited about because he
- 12:24Speaker 2: really could do something specially just kind of figure out
- 12:26Speaker 2: what they want to do with him. But at the
- 12:28Speaker 2: same time, I'm also excited like they got two pretty
- 12:31Speaker 2: high draft picks added two and a half millions to
- 12:32Speaker 2: the draft pool. Like, there's just they got a lot
- 12:36Speaker 2: of value out of Donovan here, and I think they
- 12:39Speaker 2: were going for volume and upside, and I think.
- 12:41Speaker 3: I think they got it.
- 12:42Speaker 2: So there's not a single guy I'm gonna call out substantially,
- 12:46Speaker 2: but I like the deal across the board.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Okay, well, let's get on to our next move. And
- 12:52Speaker 1: we've got third basement Ajohnio Suarez rejoining those Cincinnati Reds
- 12:56Speaker 1: on a one year, fifteen million dollar deal.
- 13:00Speaker 4: Ooh.
- 13:00Speaker 1: There is an option though for next year for making
- 13:04Speaker 1: a two year deal mutual option. But I don't know
- 13:08Speaker 1: the last time we've seen a mutual option get accepted
- 13:11Speaker 1: that Usually when it's a when it's a player option
- 13:14Speaker 1: or mutual option, they are actually team option. Mutual option.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Those are relatively rare. So what we've got here in
- 13:24Speaker 1: Suarez coming off of a.
- 13:28Speaker 3: I don't know if you could fully call it a
- 13:29Speaker 3: career here. It was up there.
- 13:31Speaker 1: He matched his career high with forty nine homers, set
- 13:35Speaker 1: a high with one hundred and eighteen RBI with the
- 13:38Speaker 1: d Backs and Mariners last year, but only hit two
- 13:40Speaker 1: twenty eight one five WRC plus at the end of
- 13:43Speaker 1: the day. And I mean I think the batting average
- 13:45Speaker 1: here is the biggest question mark, because we've seen very
- 13:49Speaker 1: high high as au Suarez when he was in Cincinnati.
- 13:52Speaker 1: I mean it was almost a decade ago at this point,
- 13:55Speaker 1: you know, when he put up that twenty eighteen season
- 13:57Speaker 1: with thirty four homers, one hundred and four RBA, two
- 14:00Speaker 1: eighty three batting average, a one to thirty five WRC
- 14:03Speaker 1: plus and so the strikeouts have gone up since then.
- 14:08Speaker 1: The batting average has come down, but the power is
- 14:11Speaker 1: ticked up, I think. And he's done it in some
- 14:14Speaker 1: tough ballparks in Seattle, and you know, he looked great
- 14:19Speaker 1: last year. Probably couldn't have asked for a much better
- 14:22Speaker 1: landing spot than Cincinnati for Suarez, who should walk in
- 14:26Speaker 1: and be the everyday d d H for the Reds
- 14:28Speaker 1: and hit clean up for that team. So what do
- 14:31Speaker 1: you think about Suarez with the Reds? And where's he
- 14:35Speaker 1: for you in the mix of top one hundred hitters
- 14:38Speaker 1: and third base overall?
- 14:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I think this, You're right, there could have been
- 14:41Speaker 2: a better landing spot for surez here legit threat for
- 14:45Speaker 2: fifty homers. He's gonna be in a good lineup. The
- 14:48Speaker 2: average is gonna be pretty bad. I think we all
- 14:50Speaker 2: know what we're getting with Yourez here third base landscape,
- 14:54Speaker 2: it's it's it's rough, like it's definitely got got some minefields,
- 14:58Speaker 2: like almost, I mean we'll ignore like the top guys
- 15:01Speaker 2: like Koziermuro Junior came in arrow, but then he just
- 15:04Speaker 2: got going down the list and everybody's got like a
- 15:06Speaker 2: little question mark. Jazz Chisholm's always got question marks, made
- 15:09Speaker 2: a shadows. He's getting up there in age Austin Riley
- 15:11Speaker 2: coming off year after year of like, uh is this
- 15:15Speaker 2: gonna what's he gonna actually do here? Like you just
- 15:17Speaker 2: go down the list as Wars is the ninth third
- 15:19Speaker 2: basement off the board, right ahead of Novelli, Marte, his
- 15:23Speaker 2: teammate Matt Chapman, Royce Lewis.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Those kind of guys.
- 15:25Speaker 2: So I think he's a pretty good value right now,
- 15:28Speaker 2: especially depending on how you draft early. You have to
- 15:30Speaker 2: have a little bit of average in the bag to
- 15:31Speaker 2: make it happen. But I think he's got a generally
- 15:34Speaker 2: up arrow based on this signing, and I think it's
- 15:37Speaker 2: gonna actually help the line up around him as well.
- 15:39Speaker 2: So I really like this. I think he's gonna be
- 15:41Speaker 2: moving on my draft boards. From the top one hundred perspective,
- 15:44Speaker 2: he's probably in the probably third quarter. It's probably where
- 15:49Speaker 2: he's gonna land at this point, if that's a fair
- 15:51Speaker 2: way to look at it. So that's between fifteen and
- 15:52Speaker 2: seventy five of the top one hundred hitters, and I
- 15:55Speaker 2: think that's probably about where he's gonna settle just because
- 15:57Speaker 2: of the bad and average penalty.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's all. Okay.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Last transaction we have is Lsa Rise signing in San
- 16:04Speaker 1: Francisco to be the everyday second baseman coming off of
- 16:09Speaker 1: a interesting year, I would say, because the strikeout rate
- 16:14Speaker 1: really was otherworldly. It was a three point one percent
- 16:17Speaker 1: strikeout rate, but it also felt clownish because it seemed
- 16:22Speaker 1: like that's all Luisa Rise was trying to do last
- 16:24Speaker 1: year for the Padres.
- 16:26Speaker 3: It was a one o four.
- 16:26Speaker 1: WRC plus two ninety two three twenty seven, three ninety
- 16:31Speaker 1: two slash line, eight homers and eleven stolen bases, sixty
- 16:35Speaker 1: six runs and sixty one RBI. So all the things
- 16:39Speaker 1: that we were saying last year on this podcast that
- 16:42Speaker 1: I mean, if there's anybody that's maybe a dog of
- 16:44Speaker 1: the podcast, that's probably Luisa Rise. They all kind of
- 16:47Speaker 1: came to fruition last year and even hurt more because
- 16:51Speaker 1: the batting average wasn't even elite elite, you know, I
- 16:54Speaker 1: could almost sometimes get myself into a rise when he
- 16:57Speaker 1: was up in like the three twenty three thirds pretty range,
- 17:01Speaker 1: But if it's gonna be hovering around three hundred, it's
- 17:04Speaker 1: just not enough above the rest of the league to
- 17:07Speaker 1: be valuable.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Now going to a tough.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Place to hit in San Francisco, but I mean he
- 17:13Speaker 1: hits well. Hits is in quotes because like he puts
- 17:18Speaker 1: the bat on the ball, and so he did that
- 17:20Speaker 1: a lot last year, and it'll be interesting to see
- 17:22Speaker 1: what the Giants do with that, because, like I was saying,
- 17:26Speaker 1: last year, it looked like Luis Rise in lots of
- 17:29Speaker 1: played appearances, was going up and just trying not to
- 17:32Speaker 1: strike out as opposed to trying to get a hit
- 17:35Speaker 1: and there that's a very different approach. And so I
- 17:38Speaker 1: think it's going to be interesting what he can do
- 17:41Speaker 1: on this one year deal with the Giants, because it
- 17:43Speaker 1: is kind of put up or shut up time for
- 17:44Speaker 1: a Rise, because I don't get this sense there was
- 17:47Speaker 1: a ton of interest in him because it's a tough
- 17:50Speaker 1: player to roster in today's day and age. When he's
- 17:54Speaker 1: not great in the field, he's actually really really poor
- 17:57Speaker 1: in the field. And if he's not actually using the
- 18:00Speaker 1: back toball skills to knock singles, he's kind of taking
- 18:04Speaker 1: his only skill away. So, uh, I know you're always
- 18:08Speaker 1: anti Luis Arise, but I'll take your your take here.
- 18:13Speaker 3: On what is signing with the Giants could maybe be Yeah.
- 18:17Speaker 2: I would say there there might not have been a
- 18:18Speaker 2: worse spot for Verias's side, maybe like Boston or somewhere
- 18:23Speaker 2: like that, where like the ballpark divsion is even worse
- 18:26Speaker 2: for the guy who can only cooking out to right
- 18:27Speaker 2: field there. Texas is maybe like the worst Texas maybe,
- 18:32Speaker 2: but just San Francisco. If you look at last year
- 18:34Speaker 2: he had eight homers moved to San Francisco have been four,
- 18:37Speaker 2: Like ball doesn't travel well there, Like I like, I
- 18:40Speaker 2: don't know, this is like where you pull the outfielder
- 18:42Speaker 2: into the infield type scenario like this, I don't think
- 18:45Speaker 2: this is good for Luis Araya's It's he's aging fast.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Like I at some point you're gonna look at like,
- 18:53Speaker 2: too eighty hitter here that's gonna hit three homers. He
- 18:57Speaker 2: did steal left and bases last year. I don't expect
- 19:01Speaker 2: that to continue. He's ever been really an efficient base steeler.
- 19:04Speaker 2: He's actually incredibly slow, and he got caught. He's got
- 19:08Speaker 2: caught quite a few times in his career generally going
- 19:11Speaker 2: except for the last two years, he's like a fifty
- 19:13Speaker 2: percent successful base steeler. So, like, I just think the
- 19:16Speaker 2: steels are gone because San Francis was not not a
- 19:20Speaker 2: team that likes to run a lot, so that's not
- 19:21Speaker 2: gonna happen. So we're looking at the guy here that
- 19:24Speaker 2: might hit like two homers, steal three bases and hit
- 19:27Speaker 2: two eighty Like that's bad. Like, I don't think there's
- 19:32Speaker 2: any other way around it. So Louiseiriahs is undraftable in
- 19:37Speaker 2: my opinion. Clearly, I might be an island. If you
- 19:41Speaker 2: look at the ADP because he's going at two eighty five,
- 19:43Speaker 2: people are drafting him thinking maybe he'll get a three
- 19:46Speaker 2: thirty average or something like that. It is pretty low,
- 19:49Speaker 2: but it's still way too high for Louise Aria's I'm sorry,
- 19:53Speaker 2: give me Bryce Eldridge on the same team one hundred
- 19:55Speaker 2: picks later. There's a lot of a lot of better
- 19:57Speaker 2: options there. So we've talked about him any times in
- 20:00Speaker 2: this podcast. My opinion has not changed.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Okay, I think that's all very fair.
- 20:05Speaker 1: All right, Well, let's get into a little bit of
- 20:07Speaker 1: the updates on the release calendar for those baseball card sets.
- 20:12Speaker 3: They did push back TOPS Pristine.
- 20:14Speaker 1: We're speaking again on February fourth here, and it was
- 20:17Speaker 1: supposed to be Top to Pristine this week, but you know,
- 20:21Speaker 1: nothing going on next week, Let's just push it in
- 20:23Speaker 1: next week, right, So next week is going to be
- 20:25Speaker 1: a bananas week of releases between not only Top Series one,
- 20:30Speaker 1: but TOPS is also rolling out the MVP collection of
- 20:35Speaker 1: Otani and Judge cards, Pristine and Guild. They're pushing out
- 20:38Speaker 1: TOPS Museum collection this week. Friday is supposed to be
- 20:42Speaker 1: when it's coming up, and then in a couple of
- 20:44Speaker 1: weeks agot Top Stadium Club. We will have a bigger
- 20:48Speaker 1: podcast on the release of Top Series one next week,
- 20:52Speaker 1: because it is significant and major enough that like it's
- 20:55Speaker 1: gonna warrant its own show in the midst of all
- 20:58Speaker 1: these previews that we're doing, and so check that out
- 21:01Speaker 1: when it drops next week.
- 21:03Speaker 3: But otherwise I think we'll.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Take that pod to save all of our takes on
- 21:08Speaker 1: Top Series one and some baseball cards, because, like I said,
- 21:11Speaker 1: we're getting into the prime of fantasy baseball season. It
- 21:14Speaker 1: is February, We've got the Super Bowl, then after that
- 21:17Speaker 1: we've got fantasy baseball galore. So let's take a break
- 21:22Speaker 1: and we'll be right back to talk about the Ale
- 21:24Speaker 1: West preview with Sam Wishing stick around everybody. All right,
- 21:44Speaker 1: welcome back, everybody. We're gonna do our preview of the
- 21:47Speaker 1: Al West. And you know what, whenever I think about
- 21:50Speaker 1: the Ale West, well, first I think about the great
- 21:53Speaker 1: Seattle Mariners who just put on a show in twenty
- 21:55Speaker 1: twenty five, and after that, I think about everybody's favorite
- 21:58Speaker 1: game show host out there, Fantasy Land. Sam Worshing joining
- 22:02Speaker 1: us again from the Palaza Podcast from Dynasty.
- 22:05Speaker 3: Guru to preview the Ale Left. How you doing tonight, Buddy.
- 22:09Speaker 4: Man, I'm living large.
- 22:10Speaker 3: Man.
- 22:10Speaker 4: I woke up today, so I'm winning. It's been a
- 22:13Speaker 4: great day for me, So I'm ready to talk some baseball.
- 22:17Speaker 4: I'm ready to get into this. This has been too
- 22:20Speaker 4: long without actionable data. I miss the smell of the
- 22:23Speaker 4: grass and having the sun beat on my face for
- 22:27Speaker 4: afternoon games or that night chill that you get when
- 22:29Speaker 4: you're watching the game under the lights, like I can't wait,
- 22:32Speaker 4: and you know, I am in Seattle, so I'm really
- 22:35Speaker 4: excited about another sport and another game that's going to
- 22:37Speaker 4: happen this weekend. But I still can't stop thinking about baseball.
- 22:42Speaker 4: I'm not wearing my Seahawks stuff. I'm still wearing my
- 22:45Speaker 4: Mariner stuff. You can't see it because it's audio. But
- 22:48Speaker 4: I've got this awesome Wu Tang slash Brian WU Crossover
- 22:52Speaker 4: T shirt I've been wearing all day. So I'm just ready.
- 22:55Speaker 4: I'm hyped.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Yes, I am too.
- 22:57Speaker 1: I mean we're starting to get fuzzy photos people reporting
- 23:00Speaker 1: to their spring training facilities. So it is just around
- 23:04Speaker 1: the bend. It is the first week of February, so
- 23:07Speaker 1: I mean, this is when things really start kicking off.
- 23:09Speaker 1: And Sam, let everybody know where they can reach you
- 23:12Speaker 1: on socials and you know, read your work. I obviously
- 23:15Speaker 1: introduced you from the Plaza podcast and Dynasty Guru, but
- 23:18Speaker 1: anything else you want to plug.
- 23:21Speaker 4: No other than Cause and Trouble with you guys at
- 23:23Speaker 4: First Pitch doing Fantasy Feud down there. You can catch
- 23:28Speaker 4: me podcasting with Palazzo Podcast and it's been a little
- 23:32Speaker 4: bit since I've written an article, but I've got old
- 23:34Speaker 4: write ups on the Dynasty Guru that you can look
- 23:37Speaker 4: up and make fun of. You can also follow me
- 23:39Speaker 4: on Blue Sky at sam FBB one.
- 23:44Speaker 3: Excellent.
- 23:44Speaker 1: All right, well, let's just get right into the Ale
- 23:47Speaker 1: West here, and so we're going to run it through alphabetically,
- 23:49Speaker 1: starting with city name, just the way that I sort
- 23:53Speaker 1: my baseball cards. So that's the way we're going to
- 23:55Speaker 1: go here. And I think the Al West is one
- 23:57Speaker 1: of my favorite because it's got such a late start.
- 24:00Speaker 3: On the alphabet. For their first team.
- 24:02Speaker 1: We're talking, of course, of the Houston Astros that they
- 24:06Speaker 1: are coming off missing the playoffs, so the first time
- 24:09Speaker 1: and quite a little bit, going eighty seven and seventy
- 24:12Speaker 1: five last year, and it was a team that was
- 24:16Speaker 1: certainly in flux, although also brought back some pieces. Carlos
- 24:20Speaker 1: Correa rejoined them at the trade deadline, but at the
- 24:23Speaker 1: same time they've just lost for Emver Valdez. That breaking
- 24:27Speaker 1: news right before we hit record on this he signed
- 24:30Speaker 1: with the Tigers.
- 24:31Speaker 3: So Valdez is going to be finding.
- 24:33Speaker 1: A new home here, and it allowed them to be
- 24:36Speaker 1: able to debut Cam Smith.
- 24:38Speaker 3: A lot last year.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Obviously they were fighting at yard on Alvarez injury again
- 24:42Speaker 1: in twenty twenty five, but Hunter Brown looked fantastic and
- 24:46Speaker 1: they've added to that rotation by signing Tatsuya Emi from NPB,
- 24:51Speaker 1: who should be I mean, Ruster Resource has him as
- 24:54Speaker 1: the third starter behind Christian Javier, but I think he's
- 24:57Speaker 1: probably going to be a pretty solid number two behind
- 25:00Speaker 1: Hunter Brown there in Houston. So I don't know if
- 25:03Speaker 1: there's anybody on this podcast that doesn't like hold some
- 25:07Speaker 1: angst against the Astros. Between Jeremy and I being Saint
- 25:11Speaker 1: Louis Cardinals fans, and honestly, I grew up kind of
- 25:14Speaker 1: hating the Astros more even than the Cubs, just because
- 25:16Speaker 1: they're so annoying, and then you get all the banging
- 25:19Speaker 1: scheme and Al West rivalry with the Mariners.
- 25:21Speaker 3: So I don't know if we're going.
- 25:23Speaker 1: To have tons of complimentary things to say, but it
- 25:26Speaker 1: is a different regime here from what we've seen in
- 25:30Speaker 1: the past two years. We're going to do one by
- 25:32Speaker 1: onesell from every team, starting with Houston. Sam as the guest,
- 25:36Speaker 1: you get to do the buy first who you buy
- 25:38Speaker 1: in from the Astors.
- 25:39Speaker 4: Well, I appreciate that and you know, I want to
- 25:42Speaker 4: say really quickly that as much as the Astros are
- 25:46Speaker 4: the team that everybody in the American League seems to vilify,
- 25:49Speaker 4: if it's not the Yankees, I actually have a lot
- 25:53Speaker 4: of respect for that organization. They've won for a long time.
- 25:57Speaker 4: They built that club well, they had to trade it
- 26:00Speaker 4: off talent from their miners to keep that major league
- 26:03Speaker 4: machine rolling, and so I have a lot of respect
- 26:06Speaker 4: for it. I'm hopeful that this is the end of
- 26:09Speaker 4: that Astros iteration and we are seeing the downfall and
- 26:13Speaker 4: hopefully a small rebuild for a couple of years for them.
- 26:18Speaker 4: So I, you know, going into this thinking about it,
- 26:21Speaker 4: and really, you know, I was you'd sent out a
- 26:24Speaker 4: link for NFBC ADP data for this to say who's
- 26:28Speaker 4: the buye, who's the selling There's a lot of talent
- 26:31Speaker 4: on that Houston Astros broster, but I think the buye
- 26:35Speaker 4: is at average pick one seventy four. Ami. He is
- 26:41Speaker 4: just Everything that I saw when he was over in
- 26:44Speaker 4: Japan was just electric. He pitches innings. He's got a
- 26:50Speaker 4: really nice pitch mix, and Houston seems to get more
- 26:56Speaker 4: out of their pitchers than some clubs. They really do
- 27:00Speaker 4: a good job of developing talent and bringing that talent
- 27:04Speaker 4: to the front. You say, Kakuchi when he came there
- 27:07Speaker 4: a couple of years ago, turned a corner. He didn't
- 27:09Speaker 4: seem to be able to get through the first couple
- 27:11Speaker 4: innings without having problems. And his time in Houston he
- 27:15Speaker 4: did a lot better than anywhere else. And there's other examples. Obviously,
- 27:19Speaker 4: they had a fully homegrown rotation a couple of years
- 27:23Speaker 4: ago that pitched for him all year. And so, you know,
- 27:27Speaker 4: I'm excited to see what Ama does. And I think
- 27:29Speaker 4: at pick one seventy four, you're getting a heck of
- 27:33Speaker 4: a steal, you know, because that's the twelfth round. And
- 27:36Speaker 4: I think that he's, like you said, I think that
- 27:38Speaker 4: he's the number three starter right now for Houston according
- 27:41Speaker 4: to roster resource. But what a great number three to have.
- 27:45Speaker 4: He really probably is going to be an SP two.
- 27:47Speaker 4: I don't think he's going to be the pitcher Hunter
- 27:48Speaker 4: Brown is. I think Hunter Brown's floor is a lot higher,
- 27:52Speaker 4: and obviously that's reflected in his ADP. He's also been
- 27:55Speaker 4: really consistent since he struggled at the beginning of twenty
- 27:59Speaker 4: four and so I understand people, you know, he is
- 28:03Speaker 4: their ace. He is that dog in the fight for them.
- 28:05Speaker 4: But I really like my so.
- 28:09Speaker 1: I think you're you're preaching to the choir here. We've
- 28:11Speaker 1: been big fans of my all off season.
- 28:14Speaker 3: Brew.
- 28:15Speaker 1: I know you've been especially into him based on what
- 28:17Speaker 1: he's shown you in Japan. And I mean, I think
- 28:19Speaker 1: this is also a great case where I do fiddle
- 28:24Speaker 1: with the projections on some certain players, and is I
- 28:27Speaker 1: think the number one right now because most projections have
- 28:30Speaker 1: him around like a four to four era. I just
- 28:33Speaker 1: don't see it being there. I think it's like a
- 28:36Speaker 1: mids threes. So if you adjust that toggle, he becomes
- 28:39Speaker 1: a great pitcher. Are you in the same mind here, Brew.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Yeah, Imai was my bye. It was.
- 28:45Speaker 2: It's pretty simple here, he's my bye. You know, Sam
- 28:49Speaker 2: had on almost all the right things here. Pitch mix
- 28:51Speaker 2: guy brings in ninety seven to ninety nine and for
- 28:54Speaker 2: somebody to come over from Japan, that's notable guests in
- 28:56Speaker 2: the seventh thing the last majority of the time, and
- 28:58Speaker 2: what he did last year, and you know, kudos. This
- 29:01Speaker 2: guy has a little moxie to him as well, and
- 29:04Speaker 2: I just love that he's the guy that you know,
- 29:06Speaker 2: pulled the Trevor Bauer sword a celebration on Trevor Bauer
- 29:09Speaker 2: and then struck out seventeen guys in the same game
- 29:11Speaker 2: against him last year.
- 29:13Speaker 3: So you know, you just have a love guy with Moxie.
- 29:15Speaker 2: And then you look at who's going around in ADP
- 29:18Speaker 2: and these are all guys going above him, Gavin Williams
- 29:21Speaker 2: above a Chandler, Drew Rasmussen, Pablo Lopez, Rhyan Pepio Nicolodolo. Like,
- 29:27Speaker 2: I'll take it my over almost any of those guys.
- 29:29Speaker 2: I think the upside is significant for him. And you know,
- 29:33Speaker 2: being in this Houston, you know pitching system, They're gonna
- 29:37Speaker 2: get the most out of him. There's there's probably a
- 29:39Speaker 2: few systems I might take, you know, maybe a Cleveland
- 29:43Speaker 2: pitching shop every once in a while, but you know,
- 29:47Speaker 2: the Houston's probably top three in the pitching shops that
- 29:49Speaker 2: i'd want to see with an.
- 29:51Speaker 3: Arm like this.
- 29:51Speaker 2: So I'm right there. It's an easy, easy buy for
- 29:54Speaker 2: me at the ADP right.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Now, Yeah steal, Okay, Well, well I like that buy.
- 30:01Speaker 1: Ani Ma, I'm gonna go a bit of a different route.
- 30:04Speaker 1: I'm going a little bit later, and I'm going with
- 30:06Speaker 1: one of my guys. I think I'm kind of planting
- 30:10Speaker 1: my flag in maybe to get into this season because
- 30:13Speaker 1: he's probably gonna pop up my waiver wire writing I
- 30:15Speaker 1: would imagine early on this season. I'm talking Hazu Sanchez,
- 30:19Speaker 1: outfielder who's going three thirty seven off the board average
- 30:23Speaker 1: right now.
- 30:23Speaker 3: So super late. That's why is the bye.
- 30:26Speaker 1: You're not really investing too much in him. But I
- 30:29Speaker 1: think I really, you know, you guys have already harped
- 30:31Speaker 1: on the Astros are a pretty good development organization, not
- 30:36Speaker 1: only from the pitching side, but I mean on the
- 30:38Speaker 1: hitting side. I think they've also been able to get
- 30:41Speaker 1: a lot out of their bats over the past few years.
- 30:43Speaker 1: And Hazu Sanchez reminded, just like screamed, somebody who's still
- 30:48Speaker 1: a little bit raw, even though you know he is
- 30:50Speaker 1: twenty eight, but you know, floundered for a while to
- 30:53Speaker 1: find a solid role there in Miami. But what really
- 30:57Speaker 1: stands out to me is the bat speed was the
- 30:59Speaker 1: ninety third sentile last year. When you look at Savant,
- 31:02Speaker 1: it's actually the profile reminds me it looks a lot
- 31:06Speaker 1: like Addison Barger. When you look at the bars across
- 31:09Speaker 1: the board, the Savant page, the approach to I think
- 31:13Speaker 1: if Houston can teach Sanchez a little bit in the
- 31:16Speaker 1: off season, Hey, you know, this is the approach we
- 31:19Speaker 1: want you to take. We know you've got great bat speed,
- 31:22Speaker 1: we want you to focus on these pictures in the zone.
- 31:25Speaker 1: I think you could be looking at a breakout year
- 31:27Speaker 1: for him. And this is a guy who already was
- 31:29Speaker 1: like a fifteen to fifteen type of guy that you
- 31:33Speaker 1: were chasing. But I think there's upside there from a
- 31:35Speaker 1: batting average standpoint. Plus, he is in the strong side
- 31:39Speaker 1: platoon right now in right field. I don't know if
- 31:41Speaker 1: you guys have looked at this Houston outfield recently, but
- 31:43Speaker 1: it is a disaster. I don't know what they're planning
- 31:47Speaker 1: to do with it, fully, because like right now, they're
- 31:50Speaker 1: still starting Jake Myers, they're starting Zach Cole. You know,
- 31:54Speaker 1: you've got Cam Smith a little bit in the mix.
- 31:56Speaker 1: E'sot Parades is in there. But then they've been talking about,
- 32:00Speaker 1: like even using some of the guys that were like
- 32:02Speaker 1: in double A last year, like Joseph Sullivan and stuff.
- 32:05Speaker 1: So I have no worries about Sanchez holding down a
- 32:09Speaker 1: job all year in Houston, and I like a lot
- 32:11Speaker 1: of the indicators around that savant page that show. It's
- 32:15Speaker 1: an easy stuff I think for a breakout for him.
- 32:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I'll go real quick and then say,
- 32:22Speaker 2: you know, you call out something that I think is
- 32:25Speaker 2: very astute from a baseball learning perspective. And I played
- 32:30Speaker 2: for many, many years and it took me a long
- 32:32Speaker 2: time to figure this out. Is it is as much
- 32:34Speaker 2: about skill as it is about knowledge when you're a
- 32:37Speaker 2: hitter and knowing what to swing out, what not to
- 32:39Speaker 2: swing out, what's a good strike to take, things like that,
- 32:42Speaker 2: And I don't know that Sanchez was ever getting that
- 32:45Speaker 2: coaching down in Miami, and so I think that there's
- 32:48Speaker 2: a lot to be said here because there's a good
- 32:50Speaker 2: skill set.
- 32:51Speaker 3: He just doesn't know what to deploy it.
- 32:52Speaker 2: And if he can figure out when to deploy it,
- 32:54Speaker 2: and I'm not confident he's going to figure it out,
- 32:56Speaker 2: but if he's got to figure it out, I think
- 32:58Speaker 2: this is a good system for him to do that.
- 33:00Speaker 2: So I'm open to it. I'm not like jumping on
- 33:02Speaker 2: the bandwagon here, but I see why you would you
- 33:05Speaker 2: would go buy.
- 33:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm I'm excited that he's one of your buys
- 33:12Speaker 4: from Houston because if he plays all season with Houston.
- 33:17Speaker 4: I think that potentially it's because he had a great
- 33:19Speaker 4: season and he finally had a chance to land on
- 33:21Speaker 4: his feet. But that kid has never been able to
- 33:25Speaker 4: really maintain a good contact rate, and so you know,
- 33:30Speaker 4: I'm interested to see what his chase rate is this year.
- 33:34Speaker 4: I'm interested to see how he's able to control the
- 33:39Speaker 4: plate in Houston, because I think that's going to go
- 33:41Speaker 4: a long way to letting some of his skills show out.
- 33:45Speaker 4: If you do go to Savant. His bat speed is
- 33:48Speaker 4: the darkest of dark reds, and everything else is blue
- 33:51Speaker 4: and light red, and all the other red ones are
- 33:54Speaker 4: you know, quality of contact metrics that deal with how
- 33:58Speaker 4: hard you hit the ball. So it makes sense that
- 34:01Speaker 4: we see those. But until I see either you know,
- 34:04Speaker 4: a tendency to always pull and be able to get
- 34:10Speaker 4: you know, the most power out of what he's doing,
- 34:13Speaker 4: or contact at least, you know, hit two sixty two,
- 34:16Speaker 4: seventy five somewhere in that range instead of to twenty
- 34:19Speaker 4: to thirty to forty. I'm I'm excited that you like him,
- 34:26Speaker 4: because I that means that something did not go well
- 34:30Speaker 4: for the Astros. I think that the Astros are going
- 34:33Speaker 4: to contend they're gonna they're going You're going to see
- 34:35Speaker 4: somebody else that they make a move for mid season
- 34:38Speaker 4: if they're in attension, and I thought their outfield is
- 34:41Speaker 4: where they'd be targeting that.
- 34:43Speaker 3: So it is really strange.
- 34:44Speaker 1: I don't know what their plan is going into the spring,
- 34:46Speaker 1: but it's not a it's not a playoff caliber outfield.
- 34:50Speaker 3: It's not a good one.
- 34:51Speaker 1: We'll see what they do. H Okay, let's move on
- 34:54Speaker 1: to the cells. Sam, who's yourself?
- 34:57Speaker 4: Well, I've loved this guy for a long time, Jose Altuve,
- 35:04Speaker 4: and he's picked one thirteen, so he's right there. I
- 35:08Speaker 4: think that makes him round eight. You know, he's he's
- 35:14Speaker 4: He's been serviceable at a very shallow position, so I
- 35:18Speaker 4: don't blame people for drafting him that early, but I'm
- 35:21Speaker 4: out on him. For the last two years, all of
- 35:23Speaker 4: his power has been to left field. He's stopped hitting
- 35:26Speaker 4: the ball all across the diamond. His sprint speed is dropping,
- 35:34Speaker 4: his ability to hit is becoming a little bit more problematic.
- 35:40Speaker 4: He's just you're seeing that fall off, and I think
- 35:44Speaker 4: that he is actually I think this is the year
- 35:49Speaker 4: that the cliff happens. I think this is where we
- 35:51Speaker 4: see him fall off. Could be wrong. I just don't.
- 35:55Speaker 4: I don't see him being a three thousand hit player
- 35:59Speaker 4: at this point in his and that means he needs
- 36:01Speaker 4: to play another five years. I think he's got two
- 36:03Speaker 4: or three left in him where they're going to put
- 36:05Speaker 4: him on the field. But this year, I there's a
- 36:10Speaker 4: number of second basemen going after him that I would
- 36:13Speaker 4: be far more interested in than him.
- 36:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's fair.
- 36:18Speaker 1: You can really see that the just overall kind of
- 36:21Speaker 1: quality of contact and everything has started to slope downwards
- 36:24Speaker 1: just and it's all I think age will really decline
- 36:28Speaker 1: at thirty five. He'll be turning thirty six in May.
- 36:31Speaker 1: And like you said, I mean we've talked about a
- 36:34Speaker 1: couple times in the pod, the second base is no
- 36:36Speaker 1: fun as a position this year.
- 36:38Speaker 3: So but where all TV.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Is going, it looks a little bit of like a
- 36:42Speaker 1: oh crap, I forgot to get a second basement. But
- 36:45Speaker 1: you just got to hold on to your bridges and
- 36:47Speaker 1: wait for that next tier because that next tier is
- 36:49Speaker 1: the one to attack right behind him. That starts, you
- 36:52Speaker 1: know with like I'm not a big Jackson Holiday fan,
- 36:55Speaker 1: but he's right there.
- 36:56Speaker 3: Luke Kisholz a reguards, right, l Yep, it's fine. Yeah,
- 37:03Speaker 3: so what al tiv go. I'm with you.
- 37:08Speaker 4: I'm even thinking farther back than that. I like the
- 37:11Speaker 4: range where you've got Polanco, Glebor, Torres, Marcus Semiony, Lennon Sosa.
- 37:17Speaker 4: I'm excited for any of you white Sox fans out
- 37:20Speaker 4: there for Lennon Soosa this year. I think he they've
- 37:23Speaker 4: they've done some things with that lineup. I think that
- 37:25Speaker 4: he's going to take a step forward, not only with
- 37:27Speaker 4: all of his counting categories, but I'm I like him. Yeah, sorry,
- 37:32Speaker 4: we're not talking about the Central. I'll quit my sex.
- 37:35Speaker 1: That's always a. That's a that's a tough conversation. Usually,
- 37:39Speaker 1: like we've got Marty on next week to cover the
- 37:42Speaker 1: Central with us, But it will be a fun time
- 37:44Speaker 1: getting through all those teams. Brew who is yourself from
- 37:47Speaker 1: the Astros.
- 37:49Speaker 3: It's funny.
- 37:49Speaker 2: I'm gonna take one of call josel to Va Junior,
- 37:53Speaker 2: which is Jemy Pina. If you go up, like you know,
- 37:57Speaker 2: three four rounds and you look at the profile, well
- 38:00Speaker 2: it's pretty much the same thing, just a little bit
- 38:04Speaker 2: younger and a little bit better. And to be very frank,
- 38:07Speaker 2: because I look at the numbers like I it's it's hard,
- 38:09Speaker 2: like there's not like a hey, something really jumps out.
- 38:12Speaker 2: It's just he's a guy that just doesn't flash the
- 38:15Speaker 2: tools besides speed.
- 38:17Speaker 3: He got lucky last.
- 38:18Speaker 2: Year with bad average on balls and play, and so
- 38:20Speaker 2: he's a two seventy guy. He's not a three h
- 38:22Speaker 2: four guy. He's never hit better than two sixty six
- 38:25Speaker 2: outside of last year. The power is exactly like L
- 38:28Speaker 2: two bay. It is down the line just using those
- 38:31Speaker 2: Crawford boxes.
- 38:32Speaker 3: That's all. That's what it is.
- 38:34Speaker 2: And I just get concerned that this is the profile
- 38:37Speaker 2: that is gonna have a one bad luck year because
- 38:39Speaker 2: he had a lot of good luck last year. And
- 38:40Speaker 2: we're gonna look at at a guy that's like fifteen
- 38:43Speaker 2: fifteen at best hitting two seventy maybe you know, ten
- 38:46Speaker 2: to fifteen, And when you look at the the guys
- 38:50Speaker 2: in that same draft range, it's just there's plenty of
- 38:54Speaker 2: other guys that are going after him that are interesting
- 38:57Speaker 2: and exciting. I mean, you got the Boba Chets going later.
- 39:00Speaker 2: You've got Trevor Story, who I'm a big fan of.
- 39:03Speaker 3: You could go back for.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Jacob Wilson later. Like there's plenty of better options in Paya.
- 39:08Speaker 2: Just he's boring. I get it, he's a fine pick.
- 39:12Speaker 2: I just I see more downside than upside of this
- 39:14Speaker 2: point in his career, and I don't think it's worth
- 39:17Speaker 2: paying for that price when there's probably better options that
- 39:20Speaker 2: are going to do just the same thing two, three,
- 39:22Speaker 2: four rounds later. So not a bad player, but I
- 39:27Speaker 2: think you can get the same thing without spending the price.
- 39:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:30Speaker 4: Absolutely, I hate how much I'm agreeing with you so far.
- 39:33Speaker 4: I've been looking for something that we could have a
- 39:35Speaker 4: little back you wait, no, I know, yeah, No, Colson
- 39:40Speaker 4: Montgomery is going after pick two hundred like I'll take
- 39:44Speaker 4: him all day at shortstop over Jeremy Panna.
- 39:48Speaker 1: Okay, well, I guess it's time for my cell. I
- 39:52Speaker 1: think it was Sam. It was your sale last year
- 39:54Speaker 1: and it was spot on, and I'm doing it now
- 39:56Speaker 1: this year again because he's cropping back up, because the
- 40:01Speaker 1: projections will still continue.
- 40:03Speaker 3: To love him.
- 40:03Speaker 1: It's Christian Walker that, like you want to talk about,
- 40:07Speaker 1: just age really decline even kicking in even more. It's
- 40:10Speaker 1: happening very rapidly for Christian Walker, who it doesn't feel
- 40:14Speaker 1: like he's been around very long, but like because he
- 40:17Speaker 1: got a late start to being able to get playing
- 40:20Speaker 1: time in Arizona. He didnt start getting full playing time
- 40:22Speaker 1: until his age twenty eight season. There that you forget
- 40:25Speaker 1: about how long he's been around and so he will
- 40:29Speaker 1: be turning thirty five at the end of March. And
- 40:34Speaker 1: he got to his numbers eventually last year, but it
- 40:37Speaker 1: came with a lot of gnashing of teeth until he
- 40:41Speaker 1: hit the back into the season that like, I'm sure
- 40:44Speaker 1: plenty of people were dropping him because he just looked toast.
- 40:48Speaker 3: The strikeouts were.
- 40:49Speaker 1: Up, the ability to hit the ball quite as hard
- 40:53Speaker 1: has you know, it decreased. It looks better because September
- 40:57Speaker 1: in August, we're so good for him, but like it
- 41:00Speaker 1: was nasty up until then. And then you also add
- 41:03Speaker 1: in Houston brought him in to cover first base and
- 41:07Speaker 1: play a great defense. He was not good in the
- 41:11Speaker 1: field last year, and that gives me that kind of
- 41:14Speaker 1: takes away that floor, I think from Walker when they're
- 41:16Speaker 1: already looking at they've got too many corner infielders in
- 41:19Speaker 1: this on this team, like Carlos Korea is playing third,
- 41:22Speaker 1: is Zac Praatis is just hanging out on the bench
- 41:24Speaker 1: because you can't put him at DH with yard On Alvarez.
- 41:28Speaker 1: If Christian Walker stumbles out the gate again, you're looking
- 41:31Speaker 1: at a possible cut scenario if if Houston can't find
- 41:35Speaker 1: a spot to play him. I think, because you know,
- 41:38Speaker 1: if they're trying to win, and I think that what
- 41:41Speaker 1: they are, but like I don't think they will, and
- 41:43Speaker 1: it's going to create some drastic moves and I could
- 41:46Speaker 1: see Christian Walker being one of those drastic moves.
- 41:50Speaker 3: I feel like we're going to run out with the
- 41:51Speaker 3: outfield in Houston.
- 41:52Speaker 2: Here is gonna like Christian Walker isaac parades like like
- 41:56Speaker 2: we got guys gonna box doesn't really when we're gonna
- 42:00Speaker 2: we're gonna put like their best center fielder out there.
- 42:03Speaker 2: From a defensive perspective, they can find the miners and
- 42:05Speaker 2: they just flank him with guys that can do nothing.
- 42:10Speaker 4: Am I the only one in the world that just
- 42:13Speaker 4: is in love with the SoC parades? Like I love
- 42:16Speaker 4: him as a baseball player and as a batter because
- 42:20Speaker 4: he knows where his success is and he leans into it.
- 42:24Speaker 4: You'll look at his bat and ball profile. He he
- 42:27Speaker 4: he has a skill and he's gonna do just that.
- 42:30Speaker 4: He's gonna pull everything and he's I want I wanted
- 42:35Speaker 4: him on the Mariners in the corner. I would have
- 42:37Speaker 4: traded one of our our outfielders for him.
- 42:39Speaker 2: I feel like e'zac Pard's is like a slopish softball
- 42:42Speaker 2: guy that just like all I'm gonna do is just
- 42:45Speaker 2: pull it down the line.
- 42:46Speaker 3: I know you can't shift, so what does it.
- 42:47Speaker 4: Matter, like farther than three hundred and fifty feet, Like
- 42:50Speaker 4: he knows that. It's not like he's four hundred, four
- 42:52Speaker 4: hundred and fifty feet. He's like, I can hit it
- 42:55Speaker 4: ten feet past the fence every time, right there.
- 42:59Speaker 2: It It'll make you millions.
- 43:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:02Speaker 4: No, he doesn't really fit on their roster, and Walker
- 43:06Speaker 4: is playing his way off of that roster. Michael, I
- 43:09Speaker 4: thank you for remembering that call yas last year. Yes,
- 43:13Speaker 4: I'm Christian Walker is done.
- 43:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Okay, Well let's move on to maybe an even more
- 43:19Speaker 1: harrowing situation in Anaheim with the Los Angeles Angels here,
- 43:24Speaker 1: who came off of a last place finished seventy two
- 43:27Speaker 1: and ninety in the division. As everything looked bad and
- 43:31Speaker 1: would they do in this offseason, they've been piecing together
- 43:36Speaker 1: players and trying to add and make it look like
- 43:38Speaker 1: they're on the agic contention, But I feel like it's
- 43:41Speaker 1: just another house of cards that the Angels are kind
- 43:43Speaker 1: of putting together underneath Ardy Moreno and their perpetual machine
- 43:48Speaker 1: of spending and non contention. That like, it's a strange,
- 43:53Speaker 1: strange franchise and a strange strange roster. Yeah, let's run
- 43:59Speaker 1: through the handful of guys that they've added to this roster.
- 44:03Speaker 3: Well.
- 44:04Speaker 1: First, John Mancotta is back at third base to play
- 44:08Speaker 1: clean up hitter there. Josh Low, Yeah, Josh Low came in.
- 44:12Speaker 1: Josh Low should be their starting right fielder. It looks
- 44:15Speaker 1: like right now. They for them, also picked up Von Grissom.
- 44:20Speaker 1: They added Grayson Rodriguez, they added Alec Manoa, they added
- 44:25Speaker 1: an entire bullpen of junk arms of Drew Pomeranz, Kirby Yates,
- 44:30Speaker 1: Jordan Romano, and they've let go of Anthony Rendon. It
- 44:35Speaker 1: has been a busy offseason. They picked up try Me
- 44:38Speaker 1: and Sini last week too, which I almost I almost
- 44:41Speaker 1: made my buy because I was like, Trey Mancini is
- 44:43Speaker 1: absolutely getting four hundred and fifty played appearances for this
- 44:46Speaker 1: Los Angeles Angels team in twenty twenty six, and he
- 44:49Speaker 1: tore the cover off the ball last year for Arizona
- 44:51Speaker 1: and Triple A, but I didn't. They've still got Nick
- 44:53Speaker 1: Maggal down in the miners. They picked up Homer Kendalario.
- 44:57Speaker 1: I could go on and on of like remember some
- 44:59Speaker 1: guys with this low Los Angeles Angels club. I think
- 45:01Speaker 1: they're destined for another last place finish. I think they're
- 45:05Speaker 1: gonna end up wasting this entire career of Mike.
- 45:07Speaker 3: Trout with all those setups.
- 45:10Speaker 1: Who we buying from this Los Angeles Angels squad because
- 45:13Speaker 1: it's a mess. Like I said, there's a lot of
- 45:16Speaker 1: things going on. But at the same time, this has
- 45:19Speaker 1: been one of my favorite hitters parks, especially early in
- 45:22Speaker 1: the season. It plays warm down in Orange County in Anaheim,
- 45:25Speaker 1: so you can find bats on this squad usually. I
- 45:30Speaker 1: don't know if we're all going to be buying bats,
- 45:31Speaker 1: but Sam, who is your buye?
- 45:35Speaker 4: I'm not buying a bat. I think that there's you know,
- 45:39Speaker 4: all those names that you just spoke about doesn't even
- 45:42Speaker 4: get into the talent that they still had on their
- 45:45Speaker 4: roster that they're going to have to find room for.
- 45:47Speaker 4: So I think that there's a lot of things that
- 45:48Speaker 4: are gonna settle with their offense, and we're just we're
- 45:52Speaker 4: not going to know until the end of spring training,
- 45:54Speaker 4: maybe even not until we get into May. But you know,
- 46:00Speaker 4: somebody knows something that we don't know in Baltimore. They
- 46:05Speaker 4: don't know what, or we don't know what's going on
- 46:11Speaker 4: with Grayson Rodriguez he got traded for It felt pretty
- 46:16Speaker 4: pretty light to Anaheim. I'm excited to see what he's
- 46:20Speaker 4: going to be able to do in la If he's
- 46:22Speaker 4: going to be able to bring his arm back and
- 46:26Speaker 4: be able to be the pitcher that we saw in
- 46:29Speaker 4: twenty three. I'm excited for that. And at his price,
- 46:33Speaker 4: I think he's going after pick three hundred. I think
- 46:36Speaker 4: he's picked three forty two on average. You know, that's
- 46:40Speaker 4: twenty third round. That's a great place to throw a dart,
- 46:43Speaker 4: you know. I'm I think Alec Manoa. You know, I
- 46:46Speaker 4: also really liked him and he was with Toronto and
- 46:49Speaker 4: had that season in twenty two. But I think he's
- 46:53Speaker 4: going to be a waiver wire pick. I don't think
- 46:55Speaker 4: he's going to get drafted this offseason. I think people
- 46:57Speaker 4: are going to want to see some show and tell
- 46:59Speaker 4: unless he Unless he's hot in spring you know that
- 47:02Speaker 4: could change some things for Mania, But I'm excited about
- 47:06Speaker 4: Grayson Rodriguez. I think out of all the players on
- 47:08Speaker 4: that roster at their values, you know, I thought long
- 47:12Speaker 4: and hard about Mike Trout, but I'm he's almost been
- 47:16Speaker 4: as problematic for as problematic for as long as he
- 47:20Speaker 4: was elite. You know, he's had a several year run
- 47:23Speaker 4: of having real problems staying on the field. And if
- 47:28Speaker 4: he has, you know, a breakout season with a reduced
- 47:31Speaker 4: role in the outfield, that's gonna happen on somebody else's roster.
- 47:34Speaker 4: I'm not I'm not paying for Mike Trout.
- 47:37Speaker 3: I think that's fair. I can get the I can
- 47:40Speaker 3: get the Grayson Rodriguez by because it is such a
- 47:42Speaker 3: late price. It's not for me.
- 47:44Speaker 1: It's the projections are in. The projections are in with you.
- 47:48Speaker 1: The projections. I've noticed because in our autnew league that
- 47:51Speaker 1: we are playing, and I was putting together some numbers,
- 47:54Speaker 1: Grayson Rodriguez kicks out very, very positively, partly because Oopsie
- 47:58Speaker 1: loves him with a three forty one era. I don't
- 48:01Speaker 1: know about that, Oopsie, but you know, a lot of
- 48:05Speaker 1: great stuff and the projections, I just don't know if
- 48:08Speaker 1: his arm is attached anymore. So Grayson's not for me.
- 48:11Speaker 1: But I don't think he's bad for a buye because
- 48:13Speaker 1: it's so late it's not much of a price.
- 48:17Speaker 4: Didn't he wasn't That deal made without medicals.
- 48:20Speaker 3: Supposedly, that's what they said.
- 48:22Speaker 1: I don't think he went for a full physical, but
- 48:24Speaker 1: I think they exchanged medicals.
- 48:26Speaker 4: I mean, yes, they they but it just that the
- 48:30Speaker 4: whole thing was amazing to me that that whole deal
- 48:33Speaker 4: went down the way that it did. I think that
- 48:37Speaker 4: that's that That would be my dart throw.
- 48:39Speaker 1: Okay, brew who's your bye from the Angels?
- 48:42Speaker 2: Well, I didn't apply on Greason because it's the same
- 48:44Speaker 2: exact logic for my guy, which is Robert Stevenson a
- 48:49Speaker 2: ton of talent.
- 48:52Speaker 3: The arm might fall off.
- 48:53Speaker 2: And I think he's the best arm in the bullpen
- 48:56Speaker 2: and should get saves, and he could also be hurt
- 48:58Speaker 2: in spring training.
- 49:00Speaker 3: So you just you don't know.
- 49:01Speaker 2: But for a guy that's going around picked three point fifty,
- 49:04Speaker 2: that is just a savant page for the last two
- 49:06Speaker 2: years he's pitched, is just blood red. Why wouldn't you
- 49:10Speaker 2: take a flyer late late in the draft, because if
- 49:12Speaker 2: he does do what he did at the end of
- 49:13Speaker 2: last year, which is he had you know, a good
- 49:16Speaker 2: twelve games, ten innings and just lit everybody up. Looked dominant.
- 49:22Speaker 2: I don't know if it's gonna carry. I don't know
- 49:24Speaker 2: if he'll stay healthy, but if that's the guy he is,
- 49:26Speaker 2: which is the last two full seasons he's pitched, he
- 49:29Speaker 2: has been dominant. So I'll take a potential dominant guy
- 49:32Speaker 2: for basically pinnings on the dollar, and if I'm wrong,
- 49:34Speaker 2: it cost me pennies on the dollar. So that's it's
- 49:37Speaker 2: exact same argument, Grayson. I think there's a ton of talent,
- 49:40Speaker 2: and I think that's when you're where you're looking at
- 49:42Speaker 2: with this Angels team. Is dart throws late their lottery
- 49:46Speaker 2: tickets for sure?
- 49:48Speaker 1: Yep, right, all right, well, I we're gonna have all
- 49:52Speaker 1: different ones because mine is Jose Soriano here and.
- 49:56Speaker 3: He is all stay away from the hitters. Yeah we did,
- 49:58Speaker 3: which is kind of funny.
- 50:00Speaker 1: He's going around pick three thirty five ish right now,
- 50:04Speaker 1: so actually just right behind Grace and Rodriguez. And I
- 50:07Speaker 1: like it as a play because this is a tale
- 50:10Speaker 1: two halves a lot like what I talked about with
- 50:13Speaker 1: David Peterson in our Mets preview where Jose Soriano through
- 50:17Speaker 1: the most innings he ever has in his career last
- 50:20Speaker 1: year in age twenty six. He came through the system
- 50:23Speaker 1: with the Angels, where he was a bit of like
- 50:25Speaker 1: a swingman and even was in the bullpen for all
- 50:29Speaker 1: of twenty twenty three. You can see it right in
- 50:31Speaker 1: his numbers. I'm you know, first half second half splits
- 50:34Speaker 1: are not exactly like the most scientific, but I think
- 50:37Speaker 1: it tells the story here pretty well, because he did
- 50:40Speaker 1: end up putting up a career high one hundred.
- 50:42Speaker 3: And sixty nine innings.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Like I said, those first one hundred and thirteen before
- 50:46Speaker 1: the All Star break three ninety ERA with a three
- 50:49Speaker 1: four fip second half, you're looking at fifty six innings
- 50:53Speaker 1: with a four ninety eight ERA and a four to
- 50:55Speaker 1: forty fIF He just wore down over the entire season.
- 50:58Speaker 1: When you're talking that late of pick, I think you're
- 51:01Speaker 1: looking at a guy who can be an eight k
- 51:04Speaker 1: per nine guy with like a high three ZR. And
- 51:07Speaker 1: that's that's free money at that point, because you're just
- 51:10Speaker 1: getting a guy who's going out and posting every week
- 51:13Speaker 1: with a little bit of upside, like This is a
- 51:15Speaker 1: he's got a nasty stinker, he's got a nasty slider.
- 51:18Speaker 1: He's learning kind of on the fly because I don't
- 51:22Speaker 1: think the Angels are probably giving him the best instruction.
- 51:25Speaker 1: But he's young, he's going to this age twenty seventh season.
- 51:28Speaker 1: I like Jose Soriano for you know, one hundred and
- 51:31Speaker 1: eighty innings of solid work for back end of your
- 51:34Speaker 1: rotation for a fantasy.
- 51:37Speaker 3: I think it's fair. I think it's fair.
- 51:38Speaker 2: The only thing I'm worried about is that defense, and
- 51:41Speaker 2: it's all the picks we just made. Taking a tick down,
- 51:44Speaker 2: I think the ball is gonna score through that in
- 51:46Speaker 2: field pretty easily.
- 51:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean Netto's pretty solid. Mancata can be solid
- 51:52Speaker 1: second base.
- 51:53Speaker 3: We'll see. Maybe Christian Moore.
- 51:55Speaker 1: Can also kind of bring it a little bit more
- 51:58Speaker 1: up the center. Yeah, Joel is a little rough up
- 52:00Speaker 1: the center.
- 52:02Speaker 2: You had to get Joe Adell, and I'm trying to
- 52:04Speaker 2: through a whole podcast with elevisions.
- 52:05Speaker 1: Joe adel Hey, I will call out that he was
- 52:08Speaker 1: Sam's cell last year and that did not work out
- 52:11Speaker 1: for you very well.
- 52:11Speaker 4: Sam, So I don't know what you're talking about.
- 52:16Speaker 1: I'm not buying him this year because the price this
- 52:18Speaker 1: year is absurd.
- 52:19Speaker 3: One hundred and twentieth pick. The floor on that is
- 52:22Speaker 3: so far down.
- 52:24Speaker 1: I guess if you're like really drafted boring, maybe I
- 52:27Speaker 1: can see it. But yeah, some people are going to
- 52:31Speaker 1: get their hearts torn out by Joe Adell this season.
- 52:33Speaker 1: I think, yeah, but let's get into some cells because
- 52:37Speaker 1: anybody selling Adele this year.
- 52:41Speaker 4: Well, I'll just get my cell real real quick. It's
- 52:43Speaker 4: everybody else on that roster. Seriously, I think my note
- 52:47Speaker 4: as I would rather roster Sacramento Athletics players don't. I
- 52:53Speaker 4: don't trust that organization with their major league team. Their
- 52:58Speaker 4: Ardi Moreno has his hands in too many things, and
- 53:02Speaker 4: they just make very interesting decisions. We just went over
- 53:06Speaker 4: the litany of roster changes that they had this year,
- 53:09Speaker 4: and maybe this is the year. You know, like I
- 53:12Speaker 4: was wrong on Joe adel last year. He actually got
- 53:15Speaker 4: some run and did well with his run all things
- 53:18Speaker 4: considered what we thought about Joe Adele. I mean, he's
- 53:20Speaker 4: still jo Adell. Was still Joe Adell, just with actual
- 53:23Speaker 4: positive results. You know, I'm just I'm out on any
- 53:29Speaker 4: of the Angels players. You know, they that they're going
- 53:31Speaker 4: to be waiver wire, they're going to be you know,
- 53:35Speaker 4: something happens in spring training where we get some kind
- 53:37Speaker 4: of real actionable news and they'll end up, you know,
- 53:41Speaker 4: maybe creeping onto a draft of mine here and there.
- 53:44Speaker 4: But as it sits right now, I'm I'm good.
- 53:49Speaker 3: I hear you.
- 53:49Speaker 2: I actually love this because this was the exact same
- 53:53Speaker 2: thing I did. I was reading the show notes. I
- 53:55Speaker 2: saw Sands pics in there, and I looked at my
- 53:58Speaker 2: notes on my phone and what I had, I'm like
- 53:59Speaker 2: it at all, other like, I have zero desire. I'm like,
- 54:03Speaker 2: are our bies were pretty gout turned similar? Which is
- 54:06Speaker 2: just a dart throw? And I'm like and I'm done,
- 54:08Speaker 2: Like I know more than one from this bunch.
- 54:11Speaker 3: I think was a strategy this year.
- 54:13Speaker 1: I think if that mister top one hundred hinders, What
- 54:16Speaker 1: do you think about Zach Nato, he's going like he's
- 54:18Speaker 1: starting to creep into the second round of some drafts.
- 54:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's it's a little rich. And I
- 54:24Speaker 2: don't think it's because of Netto himself. I do think
- 54:27Speaker 2: he like just he's one of those guys when you
- 54:29Speaker 2: watch him, I just I feel like he's playing above
- 54:32Speaker 2: his ability just for the pure eye test, and then
- 54:35Speaker 2: I also looked just what's around him, and I get
- 54:37Speaker 2: real worried that he's gonna get like the Air and
- 54:40Speaker 2: Judge treatment somehow there for the Angels, because I mean, yeah,
- 54:44Speaker 2: I get Mike trouts there at times, but beyond that, like,
- 54:49Speaker 2: there's really nobody else that's gonna hurt you. And why
- 54:52Speaker 2: would they make him run? Why would they look for this?
- 54:55Speaker 2: Like why would you do anything like that with with
- 54:57Speaker 2: your best assets? So I'm it's just it's too rich
- 55:01Speaker 2: for me. I don't get me wrong. Like another few
- 55:03Speaker 2: routes later, I'm all, I'm all for it. It just
- 55:05Speaker 2: it just feels like it's a little rich at this
- 55:08Speaker 2: point in time. And so not that I don't like
- 55:10Speaker 2: the player, it's just at the price point, it's still
- 55:12Speaker 2: still a cell.
- 55:13Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I'm going where he's going. I want players
- 55:18Speaker 4: with a higher floor. And you know, his his quality
- 55:21Speaker 4: of contact metrics again tons of red on the stat cast,
- 55:26Speaker 4: but his plate discipline numbers are all blue, and he
- 55:29Speaker 4: strikes out a ton. He doesn't walk a lot like
- 55:33Speaker 4: he's he's only striking out. I think last year was
- 55:35Speaker 4: twenty seven percent somewhere around there, which it's not at
- 55:38Speaker 4: that that thirty or higher number that everybody talks about, like, oh,
- 55:41Speaker 4: they strike out thirty, but twenty seven is still a
- 55:43Speaker 4: high strikeout rate. He only walks around five six percent
- 55:47Speaker 4: of the time, Like he just I don't I don't
- 55:50Speaker 4: want to. I don't want to give give up batting
- 55:52Speaker 4: average in this game this year, that early, unless I'm
- 55:58Speaker 4: drafting a catcher. So yep.
- 56:00Speaker 2: So the good news, COOLi is we agree with you.
- 56:03Speaker 2: Whatever your cell is, we both agree.
- 56:06Speaker 1: Well yeah, yeah, I mean I think maybe the I
- 56:09Speaker 1: mean I'm a little bit in the same boat part
- 56:11Speaker 1: of his like not a lot of these guys are
- 56:13Speaker 1: getting drafted. But I'm gonna go back to the well
- 56:16Speaker 1: and sell Logan o'hapi again that like he still has
- 56:19Speaker 1: not brought that contact rate up above seventy percent. He
- 56:23Speaker 1: still whiffs a ton and then you layered on a
- 56:25Speaker 1: concussion late last year. Everybody last year like he was
- 56:29Speaker 1: starting to creep into like top ten catcher territory in drafts,
- 56:33Speaker 1: and that's why I was pumping the brakes. I was like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 56:36Speaker 1: He had a great twenty twenty four for the Angels,
- 56:39Speaker 1: but this dude has had a history of injuries between
- 56:42Speaker 1: the concussion and then the labrim tear in twenty twenty three.
- 56:45Speaker 1: He's still going pretty late, like he's the twenty first
- 56:49Speaker 1: catcher off the board. But still even at that price,
- 56:52Speaker 1: the bottom can really fall out on you with Ohapi,
- 56:54Speaker 1: given all the angels this around him that like, I
- 56:58Speaker 1: would rather try to find a different pathway for a
- 57:01Speaker 1: second catcher than logan O Happy. You know you've got
- 57:03Speaker 1: Tylers Stevenson right there, Ryan Jeffers, Carlos Narvaiaz, Edgar Caro,
- 57:08Speaker 1: Carson Kelly.
- 57:09Speaker 3: I'd take all those guys. I'd skip Bo Naylor.
- 57:11Speaker 1: But we talked about Victor Carrottini, Freddy Freeman's hanging out
- 57:14Speaker 1: or Furman is hanging out down there. So you've got
- 57:18Speaker 1: other options that are not logan O Happy. So I'm
- 57:21Speaker 1: selling logan O Happy, even though it is a pretty
- 57:23Speaker 1: late draft price at two thirty five. Just find a
- 57:26Speaker 1: different rounte I catcher. Okay, well, let's go to the
- 57:29Speaker 1: Sacramento Athletics where now we're gonna get a little more
- 57:32Speaker 1: pep in our step, I think, because this is probably
- 57:35Speaker 1: gonna be a lot of people's like sexy wild card
- 57:38Speaker 1: pick for twenty twenty six, I think after they're coming
- 57:41Speaker 1: off of a seventy six and eighty six season, even
- 57:44Speaker 1: in that Triple A Park in Sacramento, although it helped
- 57:48Speaker 1: a lot of their bats, that's for sure, helped Nick
- 57:50Speaker 1: Kurtz win a Rookie of the Year and just plow
- 57:52Speaker 1: through the league even after that tough start. I'm among
- 57:56Speaker 1: the people out there who did pick up Nick Kurtz
- 57:58Speaker 1: in the A League because he got dropped after that
- 58:00Speaker 1: atrocious start. And I'm sure Brew you were getting questions
- 58:03Speaker 1: all the time about dropping him, and I was like, no.
- 58:05Speaker 3: No, no, the whole time.
- 58:06Speaker 2: The hold the line there. I remember I traded one
- 58:09Speaker 2: of our leagues. Somebody's after Kurtz and Kaglione, and they
- 58:12Speaker 2: would after them when that was happening, and I'm just like,
- 58:14Speaker 2: here's Jack Caglion, please so and uh.
- 58:19Speaker 1: Otherwise, a pretty mum off season, I would say. You know,
- 58:23Speaker 1: they did sign Tyler Sadistrom to a long term extension.
- 58:27Speaker 3: Which was great to see. They brought a board Jeff.
- 58:31Speaker 1: McNeil to play second base every day, and otherwise I
- 58:35Speaker 1: think they're just letting the kids kind of develop through
- 58:37Speaker 1: their system. They've got lots of interesting arms, lots of
- 58:40Speaker 1: interesting bats, and I think, like I said, it's going
- 58:43Speaker 1: to be a very interesting wild card kind of contending
- 58:47Speaker 1: team going to twenty twenty six years. So all those considerations, Sam,
- 58:52Speaker 1: who is your bye from the Athletics.
- 58:55Speaker 4: Well, it's not going to be one of their pitchers,
- 58:57Speaker 4: that's for sure. You know. I think if they're to
- 59:00Speaker 4: be a wildcard team, they're going to have to have
- 59:01Speaker 4: some real consistency and some real innings eaters that you know,
- 59:07Speaker 4: who knows if it's going to be strikeouts or just
- 59:09Speaker 4: being able to have a good defense behind him. But
- 59:11Speaker 4: they're gonna they're going to need some things to be
- 59:13Speaker 4: a wildcard team. But that offense, Oh my gosh, my
- 59:17Speaker 4: bye is Tyler Soderstrom. He's going at pick ninety two.
- 59:22Speaker 4: Kid is twenty four years old. Kid is twenty four
- 59:25Speaker 4: years old, and he just put it all together last year. Tyler,
- 59:32Speaker 4: get him now, because I think next year he'll be
- 59:35Speaker 4: a third or fourth round pick. I think he's just
- 59:38Speaker 4: going to continue to really do damage in that lineup.
- 59:44Speaker 4: So I'm super excited about Tyler Soderstrom at that price.
- 59:49Speaker 1: I think this is a great call. He is currently
- 59:51Speaker 1: going off. I mean he's actually like a round pick
- 59:55Speaker 1: one hundred right now, but great savant page. It's also
- 59:58Speaker 1: like a play where I don't get the projections on
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: this one. The projections are really kind of pushing him
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: back and batting average and everything. But he smokes the
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: ball so hard and plays in such a great ballpark.
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: I think this is a great buy. So Brew, who's
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: your buye from.
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: The I'm gonna go way on the list and a
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: guy that I actually believes even in their roster resource
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: depth charts, and I'm going to go Jack Perkins. And
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: Jack Perkins is going off the board. It picked five
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: hundred and fifty nine, which.
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: I believe he was not necessarily picked. So Jack Perkins
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: is next. Mason Miller. He heard it here first.
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: This guy was dominant in the minor leagues. He has
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: some control problems. Camp last year looked good, always gets injured.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: He had shoulder issues, and from a closing perspective, that
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: bullpen is ugly, ugly, and this guy doesn't have what
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: it takes to stay healthy in the rotation. But in
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: the miners last year he was striking out fourteen nine.
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: He throws just mid ninetieth percentile gas and I don't
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: see why they wouldn't take a guy like that, assuming
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: he's healthy, and let him anchor the bullpen, and then
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: they're gonna eventually flip him. Let's be very clear, this
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: is what they're gonna do unless they really hit contention.
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: But I think Jack Perkins is the closer for the
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: Athletics at least three cords of the season this year,
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: and he is absolutely free.
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: I like this.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: It's a wicked slider too, just like miss and Miller.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: Not quite as good of a fastball shape, but it's
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: another wicked slider. And like, yeah, as long as you
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: got a fastball that's going fast and you can spot
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: it up a little bit, it is a ninety location
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: plus according to stuff Plus.
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: So that's the other thing.
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: Maybe we talk about that pen bullpen, we also talk
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: about guys to watch in spring training.
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: Perkins is gonna be on my watch list, I think now.
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely. I was gonna say he walks a ton
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: of guys, so he's definitely a bullpen arm. But Oakland
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: is or Oakland Sacramento is a place where opportunity can
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: happen there, So all.
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: Right, cool, Can you go deeper than Jack Perkins?
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: No, I'm going towards the top of the draft here
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: because I'm going back to the wall because I thought
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: you would go here again too.
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: Brent Rooker, he was so easy. I love that Brent Rooker.
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: He's fifty fifth off the board on our player Rader
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: for twenty twenty six, thirty fifth player.
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: That's about where he landed last year.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: You want to talk about somebody who should be going
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: maybe in that second round, to say, Zach netto look
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: at Brent Rooker. And he was actually recently on the
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: Effectively Wild podcast where you know, he was talking about
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: he still felt like there was things to develop last year.
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: And you're still looking at a guy who I mean,
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: the age is up.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: There, but like because he's still getting the early opportunities
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: in his career. It's only he's only played three full
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: seasons at major league level and you put him back
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: in that ballpark in Sacramento. I mean, I'm loving it.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: For like a seventy average, thirty five homers, non zero speed,
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: you know, one hundred runs maybe one hundred rbi. Like
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: that is a great spot and you don't have to
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: worry about him. I think for outfield in any league,
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: I think this year because I think he played twenty
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: games last year. Let me check just to verify that. Yeah,
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: he played twenty eight games out there, so he should
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: be qualified outfield everywhere. Last year we had concerns because
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: he was util only. You don't have to worry about
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: that this year. Brent Rooker is just easy money sitting
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: in like the third round in most drafts right now,
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: right now. I took him in our f PAS DC
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: when we were out there because it was just sitting
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: there and you're like, why is this guy here?
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: Right?
- 1:03:44Speaker 4: I love that call.
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: I think it's great, And I think what people don't
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: realize is Rooker was better last year than he was
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: in twenty four. Like from purely under the covers. He
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: had worse luck. His home runs for flyball dropped pretty dramatically,
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: and he hit the ball just as or dropped. The
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: strike out rate, like everything almost across the board got better.
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: The results weren't as good because of some luck and
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: other things like that, but like the actual skill was better.
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: So I think, yeah, we can we will see more
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: from Britt Rooker.
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: And you said he was the thirty fifth rated player
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: right now for No.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: Third hitter twenty twenty six on our player Raider for Rasball, Like,
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: if you're using our Rasball player raider for projections for
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: twenty twenty six, he's ring thirty.
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: Five right now.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: So yeah, it's that's what. You don't find that type
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: of gap usually at the top of a draft. And
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: I'll take it all day with Brent Broker. Let me
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: see where he ended up last year on the player
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: Raider because it was also very good overall. It was
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: fifty seven last year. But like Bruce just said, like
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: everything was there. Okay, Well, let's get to the cells
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: here for the A's Sam, who's yourself?
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: Oh, sorry, Ice Cubes, you're gonna have to edit that out.
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: I'm keeping that in out.
- 1:05:10Speaker 4: So my cell from the A's is actually one of
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: the two players in the major leagues that I have
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: a T shirt of that isn't a Mariner. Like, I
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: love this guy, but I don't think I can pay
- 1:05:23Speaker 4: a pick eighteen for Nick Kurtz. I don't think I
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: can pick him at the beginning of the second round.
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: If he was going around later, maybe the two three turn,
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: I would give him a lot more consideration. But he
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: still struck out way too much, and that makes me
- 1:05:38Speaker 4: afraid that there's going to be an opportunity for people
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: to figure out their way to pitch him. I mean,
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: this is the Majors and very few players and he
- 1:05:48Speaker 4: quality of contract metrics are just through the ceiling. Like,
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: I get that he's one of those players that could
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: live at a thirty percent strikeout rate and not hurt you,
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: but I I'm not going to be picking him at
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: the beginning in the second round, So I'm out on Nick.
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't disagree with it.
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: At the same time, I'm kind of neutral here because
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: I think this is one of the few guys that
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: could be a fifty to sixty homework type of guy,
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: especially in that ballpark. But to your point, this is
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: the point the draft works really hard to go power
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: bat and not continue to get some speed and or
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: high end pitching, because it gets pretty questionable pretty quick
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: in the pitching area as well.
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: So I'm kind of with you.
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: I don't think I'll own much of him because of
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: that dynamic. It's not that I don't think he's the
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: right value there. I just think it doesn't set up
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: your draft very well for what you want to do
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: to build later, because you can find the guys later
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: that they'll hit bombs. You're not going to find the
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: guys later that run and don't you know hit two
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: ten right.
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: The other thing to consider too, Roster Resource has Nick
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: Kurtz leading off right now. If that happens, that's gonna
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: be a hindrance.
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: To your RBI. I mean, obviously the runs there, but
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: Roster Resource has questions at times.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't I don't see how he's leading off
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: personally like it. I think they probably lead off McNeil
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: or Wilson.
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: But yes, absolutely absolutely, you'd want the table set for him.
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: Yeah, because it I mean it was a solid walk rate.
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: But yeah, you want some dudes on base when he's
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: gonna slug. Okay, I think that's a fair sell. Brew
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: who's yours?
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: I'm going with another name. It's been pretty hot.
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: He's going further down, going pick one sixty three at
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: lea score. The data I'm using and that's Lawrence Butler.
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: Lawrence Butler's Savantant page is pretty scary looking. It is
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: mostly blue, and he also doesn't know what to swing
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: at And the second half of last year, do you
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: know what he did? He struck out thirty percent of
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: the time his WRC plus was seventy, it wasn't even
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: close to passable.
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: And yeah, I get it.
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: The guy can run, and the guy has some some crazy,
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: crazy power when he hits the ball, but he doesn't
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: seem to hit the ball that often, and so it's definitely,
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: definitely questionable. This is the kind of profile that absolutely
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: can do what he's done. He can go twenty twenty,
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: he go thirty thirty. He could also go like ten
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: to ten and get demoted. It wouldn't be unreasonable with
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: a guy with his profile. So it's it's one of
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: those I'm just like, I'm staying out of the game
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: because nothing good comes from playing with fire Like that
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: is somebody else's problem if he's going too high. This
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: is a profile the guy should be picked like two
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: hundred and two fifty, not in mid one hundreds.
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: I think, yeah, that's fair.
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: I mean, the thing is like it could be twenty
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: twenty and there's not many chances at last, you know,
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: past him. The other consideration is the range on it.
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: I don't I've not seen a range on a dude
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: quite as large as his. Uh, it's pick one twenty
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: nine to two or four. So like there are drafts
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: where Lawrence Butler's falling towards pick two hundred. I'm guessing
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: you're probably not as cell there, but like, yeah, that.
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: Feels more reasonable.
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: It's but yeah, I've been talking a good four or
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: five hours earlier. It's just like now, I think there's
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: better options that have a higher floor in similar ceilings
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: than Butler. So it's just not that's not kind of
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: kind of you want to build a team around.
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, totally, it's fair.
- 1:09:25Speaker 4: Totally agree.
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: Okay, well I've got a different cell myself. I'm selling
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: Jacob Wilson because I don't quite get it. This is
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: a little bit of like Luisa Rise thing here, because
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: when you look at the power.
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: I mean, certainly he.
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: Did get to the thirteen homers last year because he
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: played in Sacramento. But I don't know if I feel
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: confident about him eclipsing double digit homers.
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: You're in, you're out, given just the way that he hits.
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: You know, you're looking at a twenty four point seven
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: percent hard hit rate, a two point two percent l
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: rate because he's not striking out and he's kind of
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: doing the lease a Rise thing where he's focusing on
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: making contact and putting it in play, and I mean,
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: even when you're looking at that, I'm not sure that
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: that's always going to be totally sustainable. I don't think
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: even the batting average that he can provide for you
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: is necessarily something you can count on when you're looking
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: at a dude who's only on the thirty ninth percentile
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: for a sprint speed. Because like this works, and like
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: when you're talking about like the Justin Crawford, even that
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: Chandler Simpson mold that we've talked about, where if you've
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: got elite level speed and you're just putting the ball
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: into the infield, you can outrun it. That's not exactly
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: what Jacob Wilson's doing. You can see it on his
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: spray chart that he's just dinking and dunking stuff in
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: front of the outfielders. And I don't know if that's
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: a sustainable strategy in the long term. On top of
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: like he was dealing with that like broken hand, I
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: believe last year towards the end of the year, and
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: I'm not sure you know how that could impact him
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: going forward. You just kind of it becomes the case
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: where you're not sure where you're gonna get the other
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: categories from when you're looking at JP Goob Wilson overall,
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: other than the batting average. So because of that, I'm
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: selling him just in a five by five rod. It's
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: a little bit of a rich price for me. At
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: one seventy seven.
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: I've got no problem with this one. So it's it's
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: right there. It's it's anytime you compare a guy to Locirias,
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: I'm out.
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: So it's it's.
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: It's it's pretty it's pretty pretty easy there. But like
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: this is one of the if everything goes right, you
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: got a guy that hits three thirty and hits like
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: seventy RBIs and ninety runs, zero steals and five homers
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: type thing. So like yeah, like again it's Louise Riah's
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: and you just can't pay for that. This is a
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: fantastic middle endfielder if you can get him at that
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: like two fifty draft price something like that.
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean, I guess if you're trying to
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: make up for like a Schwarber pick or something, maybe,
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: but like it takes a pretty perfect scenario I think
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: to be rostering Jacob Wilson.
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I've I've looked up before it's so hard to
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: do that where you try to combine to you guys
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: to get some stellar guy, like it never works out.
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: It never works out.
- 1:12:08Speaker 4: I'm just stunned. I've never looked at his stackcast page before,
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: and it's either dark red or dark blue. Like there's
- 1:12:15Speaker 4: very little variants. Ninety eight percent house squaring up one
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: hundred percent for his k rate, it's seven point five
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: percent for the season. Expecting battag average and like you
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: expect to see like the barrel, the hard hit, the
- 1:12:29Speaker 4: ag Oh my god.
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: Yeah, when you swing the bat so slow, you're gonna
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: make contact.
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: He's basically bunting every time. It's a funky profile.
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: He's a great he's a fun player to watch in
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: real life. But for Rodo, it is a it is
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: a wacky profile.
- 1:12:45Speaker 4: He hit thirteen home runs and stole five bases last year,
- 1:12:48Speaker 4: Like it wasn't that he was a nothing contributor. But yeah,
- 1:12:52Speaker 4: I don't I don't want to pay I don't want
- 1:12:55Speaker 4: to pay that that draft price pick. What what did
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: you say? He was that on the on the sheet?
- 1:12:59Speaker 3: It's one.
- 1:13:02Speaker 4: No, he's he's like a after pick two fifty, after
- 1:13:05Speaker 4: pick three hundred, he's a he's a dart throw. Yeah,
- 1:13:09Speaker 4: that's like JP Crawford. Yes, yes, you would never pick
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: that high. You would never pick JP Crawford before pick
- 1:13:20Speaker 4: two hundred exactly.
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: Okay, well, let's get to the main attraction here. Let's
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: talk about those Seattle Mariners who won this division last
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: year ninety and seventy two, got to the Alcs right
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: on the precipice of the World Series. And this is
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: another great team I think, going into twenty twenty six,
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: pretty much returning everybody that they had previously, including re
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: signing Josh Naylor who was acquired at the deadline, recently
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: added Brendan Donovan. They also have put together a couple
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: of pieces in the bullpen. I mean, the main one
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: is Jose Ferrare coming over from Washington. And I mean
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: this team, they didn't really need to make too many
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: moves to improve upon a ninety win team, especially when
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: you've got a core of Cal and Julio and that
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: pitching rotation that looks like a bunch of stalwarts. Oh
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: and they added Kate Anderson in the draft as well.
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: So I mean I think this, yes they did, this
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: team is.
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: Primed for another big year. I think They're probably my
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: AL Champions pick for twenty twenty six, just because of
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: all the talent that they've got and the rotation is
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: just so nasty. Sam, this is your favorite team. I'm
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: sure you want to buy just about everybody, but I've
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: got to make you narrow it down to one. Who
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: are you buying at their ADP Yeah.
- 1:14:37Speaker 4: I was trying to figure out how to take all
- 1:14:40Speaker 4: of the top players for the Mariners in a snake draft,
- 1:14:43Speaker 4: and I just I don't think that there's a way
- 1:14:46Speaker 4: to collect them all. You can't pokemon the Mariners this
- 1:14:49Speaker 4: year like you can some other clubs. They're really top heavy.
- 1:14:52Speaker 4: But I'm excited for Bryce Miller to come back into
- 1:14:56Speaker 4: this rotation and be a difference maker. He dealt with
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: some inj last year, him and Kirby and Logan actually
- 1:15:02Speaker 4: after I don't think any of them missed to start
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: in twenty four. All three of them lost time to injuries,
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: while it was Wu and Castillo who ended up anchoring
- 1:15:14Speaker 4: that rotation. But Bryce Miller came back at the end
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: of the season and pitched great in the playoffs, and
- 1:15:22Speaker 4: I think that's all I needed to see was that
- 1:15:24Speaker 4: he was back to being Bryce Miller, and he got
- 1:15:29Speaker 4: that experience of being in the playoffs. He never looked
- 1:15:31Speaker 4: like he was smaller than the you know, the position
- 1:15:36Speaker 4: that he was being put in. He rose to those occasions,
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: and so I'm excited he's going around pick two point
- 1:15:43Speaker 4: fifty on the sheet. Maybe his ADP has moved up
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: a little bit, but I think you're getting somebody who
- 1:15:51Speaker 4: on most rosters would be an SP two, SP three
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: around where you're drafting SP five, SP six, And I
- 1:15:58Speaker 4: want that upside for days at that at that range.
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: So Bryce Miller, for me, is really exciting to see
- 1:16:03Speaker 4: that he's fallen that far.
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: All right, Well you flipped because he was your cell
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: last year and he was my bye, but you were
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: right last year. But I thought I like it. The
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: price is pretty dirt cheap, and I've always liked Bryce Miller.
- 1:16:16Speaker 3: I liked what I saw at the end of the season.
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: During the season.
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: It was rough. It was not the Bryce Miller I'd
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: known and loved. But yeah, I think it's a great
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: throw at pick two fifty, a little bit of upside there.
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: Brew who's your bye?
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: I am going with my plant of the year on
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: this team. There's probably no guy that I like more
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: in dress right now than Dominique ken Zone. Oh my
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: cell love the guy. This is the guy's phenomenal. This
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: is a guy before Donovan was gonna hit probably fifth
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: in the lineup. He'll probably sixth in the lineup. When
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: you look at the underlying metrics average X velocity, it's
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: Austin Riley or Jordan Walker. Those guys mash barrel rates,
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: metals or you hit Suarez, those guys mash This guy.
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: He's gonna hit to eighty two ninety. He's gonna hit
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: quite a few home runs, very respectable plate approach, and
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: I think we're talking the two eighty twenty homer plus
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: season easily at a three thirty three ADP. Everything that
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: he did just looked really strong, and I think he's
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: gonna just continue to grow. If you actually go back
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: and look at Bobby Witt in twenty twenty three, some
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: of his metrics and what he looked like under the covers,
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: it's uncanny how similar it is to Dominic Canzone.
- 1:17:33Speaker 3: Now I'm not.
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: Saying he's gonna be Bobby Witt, but like for how
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: good he looks under the covers and nobody's talking about
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: him and when you actually watch.
- 1:17:41Speaker 3: Him play, it looks legit.
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: So I don't know why people aren't talking about this
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: guy more because he I think he's gonna win the leagues.
- 1:17:49Speaker 4: I love that call as Mariners fan, and I can't
- 1:17:53Speaker 4: disagree with anything that you've said. What I will add
- 1:17:55Speaker 4: to that is, you know, Victor Roebliss is still on
- 1:17:59Speaker 4: that roster, and he had a really strong ending of
- 1:18:03Speaker 4: twenty twenty four. He lost twenty twenty five to that
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: shoulder injury when he crashed into the net against the Giants.
- 1:18:13Speaker 4: He and Canzone I think are going to be platooning
- 1:18:18Speaker 4: in right field. And I don't know why they're not
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: throwing Canzone against left handed pitching. I don't know why
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: they aren't, because he's proven that he's an above league
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: average hitter against lefties. Also, like yep, he's phenomenal, but
- 1:18:34Speaker 4: for whatever reason, and he doesn't play bad defense, and
- 1:18:37Speaker 4: he's got that it factor. He's fun to watch on
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: the field, and he's playing for a great team. He
- 1:18:43Speaker 4: doesn't have to be a contributor. You could bat him seven,
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: eight or nine and not feel badly about it. Right
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: like he's in that perfect position. I just don't I
- 1:18:54Speaker 4: don't know if the Mariners are going to try to
- 1:18:56Speaker 4: be smarter than everybody in the room and continue to
- 1:18:59Speaker 4: platoon that position instead of just giving that kid runway
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: because of the gravitas coming into this season that you know,
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: like Mike was saying, there's a lot of people that
- 1:19:10Speaker 4: like them or the Blue Jays as as the picks
- 1:19:14Speaker 4: to click for going back to the World Series this year,
- 1:19:16Speaker 4: and so you know, I don't know if he's going
- 1:19:19Speaker 4: to be giving he has a slow april and Roblist
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: hits the ball. You could see Canzone getting two hundred
- 1:19:25Speaker 4: plate appearances for the season, and that would be a
- 1:19:27Speaker 4: shame because I'm if he has more than three hundred
- 1:19:30Speaker 4: and fifty, he's going to have more than four hundred
- 1:19:32Speaker 4: and fifty. If they give him run, he is going
- 1:19:35Speaker 4: to hit the ball.
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: So absolutely, So I don't know what Mike is over
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: here thinking.
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: I mean, he was like he was a very soft
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: cell because like.
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: My welling, now you know.
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: My leader was going to be like it was a
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: little bit like the Blue Jays, where like last week
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: when we were doing the Blue Jays, I had a
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: real tough time finding somebody to sell, and like I
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: think the Mariners are like that too, that the draft
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: prices are pretty fair across the bord. And I my
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: biggest thing is it was a very babbitt Field kind
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: of season four can zone strongside platoon role in a
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: d H right now. And it's kind of goes a
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: little bit to what Sam was saying that like if
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: he can't hold this job, which he didn't do a
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: great job of doing it last year, was also aided
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: by like I was just looking like there was one
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: three run homer, three homer game against the Kansas City
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: Royals where he got to tee off on a on
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: a below par Michael Waka and Daniel Lynch and that
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: really boosted the entire line a lot. And so like
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: it's a lot of like bits of luck. I see,
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: I see what you're saying. It just need to see
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: more of it. But I don't know if he's gonna
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: get all that run because if the strikeouts come back,
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: if he can't square up the ball right, it's gonna
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: be easy. I think for the mariagers to say, hey,
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: like Dominic, good job, good effort, but you need to
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: find a different path because it's not working out right now.
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: So it's also it's not a bad draft price, but
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: like I said, it's a very soft cell. I'm just
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: not a dominant canzone guy.
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: All right, Well, we'll put the we'll put a wager
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: on this one later in the season. We'll we'll we'll see.
- 1:21:16Speaker 4: Jeremy got back. I appreciate it, all right, Thanks Sam?
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: Thanks all right? Thanks?
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: Well, I mean my bye. I'm going back to the
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: top end of the draft. I'm buying cal Raley. I
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: like what we're seeing out of him, just because like
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: forty homers in one hundred RBI in the bag as
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: a catcher, that doesn't happen. And so like I'm not
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: counting on like the sixty homers, I'm not counting on
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: even fifty. You just give me forty and one hundred
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: with a two forty batting average. That's a second round pick,
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: especially when you're looking at catcher.
- 1:21:49Speaker 3: It allows you to do a lot of different things
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: the rest of your draft when you lock in cal Raley.
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: And I mean I've been finding he drops in drafts too.
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: Like I got him in our first pitch Arizona DC
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: at pick twenty six in the second round, paired him
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: with Monsto, Like that was like that's a perfect one
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: two combo. And it's the same sort of thing like
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: if you find a great asset in the first round
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: and can pare him up with cal Raley and just
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: set yourself up with that type of level of a catcher,
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: I just don't see, Like at some point, I don't know,
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: like I became a believer in cal Rally last year
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: because like I was.
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: Waiting for it to like fall apart, and then the
- 1:22:33Speaker 3: dude just hits.
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: Like another two three taters and it's just like he's
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: so good and I just don't see how he doesn't
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: reach the forty homer mark. And when you're looking at
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: that floor at a catcher, I'll take him in the
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: second round. I've got no problem doing that. So I'm
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: buying cal Raley. I believe in him, and I think
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: that he can continue what he was doing, and they're
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: still upside when you're buying him at where he's at,
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: because if he is a fifty homer guy again, that
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: is a first rounder.
- 1:23:02Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah. His home runs by month last year, not
- 1:23:04Speaker 4: that I know this off the top of my head,
- 1:23:07Speaker 4: but I do. Starting in April it was twelve eleven, ten, nine, eight, ten,
- 1:23:15Speaker 4: four months out of the year he hit double digit
- 1:23:18Speaker 4: home runs, and the month that had the All Star Game,
- 1:23:22Speaker 4: he had nine, and then he had a slow August
- 1:23:24Speaker 4: and he only hit eight that month. Like what we
- 1:23:31Speaker 4: saw from him last year was ridiculous. And I'll never
- 1:23:35Speaker 4: forget when we were ending the twenty two season and
- 1:23:37Speaker 4: going to the wild Card, he was playing with a
- 1:23:42Speaker 4: broken thumb. He was playing with injuries to his legs
- 1:23:46Speaker 4: like he was still some people just have it on
- 1:23:50Speaker 4: the baseball diamond, like some people are injured all the
- 1:23:52Speaker 4: time and they're like they stub their toe, they're out
- 1:23:55Speaker 4: for three week. Cal Rawley is not that player. He
- 1:23:58Speaker 4: was top twelve I think in league and played appearances
- 1:24:02Speaker 4: at catcher at catcher like it's just it's unreal. And
- 1:24:06Speaker 4: so you know, I know I said I had cal
- 1:24:09Speaker 4: Rawlely as my my cell, but I can't. I can't
- 1:24:12Speaker 4: say that I actually and for the first time in life,
- 1:24:15Speaker 4: I don't think I have home home biased. There all
- 1:24:21Speaker 4: all of their draft prices, in their top in the
- 1:24:25Speaker 4: top three point fifty, all of them are spot on.
- 1:24:29Speaker 4: And anybody that you're looking after that is is a
- 1:24:31Speaker 4: dart throw. And it comes down to truly what you
- 1:24:34Speaker 4: your opinion is, and you know those are all players
- 1:24:37Speaker 4: that are going to get cut for fab you know,
- 1:24:40Speaker 4: moves if they don't work out. And so i'd buy
- 1:24:44Speaker 4: buy the Seattle Mariners this year, buy them. I want to.
- 1:24:50Speaker 4: I wanted to say sell cal Ralely. I wanted I
- 1:24:52Speaker 4: want to, you know, like I am, I do love
- 1:24:55Speaker 4: that guy, But man, I can't. I can't say those words.
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I think who is Like the thing is where
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: he's going in drafts is like this perfect cliff of
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: like you've gotten through all of your like four or
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: five pure category guys that like are going to fill
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: the status sheet and then he's like the very beginning
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: of that tier where you get like Guerrero and Kurts
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: and Chisholm and Schwarber and those guys like all have
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: like a problem, right, and you just add the catcher
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: eligibility on top of it, and like they're like, well,
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: why wouldn't you do that? They all have a question
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: mark about it, they don't. I mean colt rally Stole
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: was a fourteen bases last year.
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I was gonna say he might be like the
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: most on basis you get out of a catcher too
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: so like there's that factor as well.
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: He's incredibly slow, let's be very very clear. And so
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: I don't know if he can repeat that because you
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: think that somebody would figure that out.
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: Just well he's a ball player, man, Yeah.
- 1:25:50Speaker 3: So in fact he'll he can dage and stay in
- 1:25:52Speaker 3: the lineup.
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: Well, I want to disagree with you if I can't.
- 1:25:56Speaker 4: And you're talking about builds. I mean you could you
- 1:25:59Speaker 4: could have somebody that values pitching over Julio and you
- 1:26:03Speaker 4: could you could start with a Julio cow build. Yeah,
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: Like how nice would that be to have an elite
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: outfielder when the cliff happens there and to have cal
- 1:26:10Speaker 4: Rawley as your catcher one, Like, that's a nice build
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: or Julio's off the off the board, Oh I got
- 1:26:17Speaker 4: Garrett Crochet and cal Rawley, Like that's a nice one
- 1:26:20Speaker 4: to start. You get in that that ace in the pocket.
- 1:26:22Speaker 4: So yeah, I'm with you. I want to buy him.
- 1:26:26Speaker 4: I don't want to sell him.
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: I like it. Brew are you who's yourself?
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: I'm justly sell a guy like I've just been selling
- 1:26:34Speaker 2: for years and I'm just gonna keep selling Luis Castillo
- 1:26:37Speaker 2: just because I don't I don't understand why people are
- 1:26:41Speaker 2: drafting Louis Castillo every single year for like six years.
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: As velocity has decreased, his strikeouts have gone down, Like
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: he doesn't put the ball on the ground, Like there's
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: just lots of things here that don't do the things
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: that you should do. And with how strong that pitching
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: mechanism there is in Seattle, I just I just see
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: him like slowly fading away, and I'm just waiting for
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: the year where it truly just fades and he now
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: starts to strike out like seven per nine and the
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: ground ball rate drops like thirty five percent in the
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: home run spike, and I get in Seattle, it's hard
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: for the true home run spike. I just I think
- 1:27:19Speaker 2: he's like a four four twenty five e er a
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: type of guy, and he doesn't really help you from
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: a ratio perspective, uh a K perspective. I just he's
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: so blessed, and I just I just can't get on
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: board with Louise Casto.
- 1:27:33Speaker 3: So yeah, I think I've sold him like four years
- 1:27:36Speaker 3: in a row.
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: Now, So yeah, I will say that like last year
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: when we were selling him, he was like pick seventy five.
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: He's picked one sixty now, so like.
- 1:27:45Speaker 3: I'm all selling them.
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: So yeah, I think it's fair that you can go
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: in a different route, but the price is fine as well.
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: Like if you're if you've been going all high upside
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: arms and a little more injury risk and you just
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: need somebody who you know is going to post one
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: hundred and eighty innings in Seattle, I'm okay with it.
- 1:28:00Speaker 3: And finally at that price.
- 1:28:02Speaker 4: That that's the range where you want somebody who's going
- 1:28:05Speaker 4: to be good for your ratios. That's where you want
- 1:28:07Speaker 4: somebody who's going to be an innings eater. And the
- 1:28:10Speaker 4: last three years his era has been three three four,
- 1:28:14Speaker 4: three six four three five four. He started thirty three games,
- 1:28:18Speaker 4: thirty games, thirty two games. He's pitched one hundred and
- 1:28:21Speaker 4: ninety seven innings, one hundred and seventy five innings, one
- 1:28:23Speaker 4: hundred and eighty innings. His whip has been one point one,
- 1:28:27Speaker 4: one point one seven and one point one eight. Like
- 1:28:29Speaker 4: at that pick to your point, Michael, like that's I
- 1:28:34Speaker 4: disagree with your your cell on him, Like I appreciate
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: that you don't like him, just like I will always
- 1:28:38Speaker 4: tell Christian Walker and I didn't have to, Yeah, You're like,
- 1:28:43Speaker 4: we're good, like, but I'm just telling you you're wrong.
- 1:28:45Speaker 3: Brother.
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: You know who's going about like five picks before. So
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: let's let's be careful where we are in the range.
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: Ranger Swarz is right behind him, like there there's yeah,
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: I think he's different. Yeah, there's some better arms in
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: that same range. You drop back another few rounds, you
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: start talking to Shane Boz, Kate Hordon, Aaron Nola, different, different.
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:29:09Speaker 4: I would like that stack though, of a Mayan Castillo,
- 1:29:11Speaker 4: because again, I know that Castillo is going to go
- 1:29:14Speaker 4: out there and he in tel Kate Anderson or Ryan Sloan,
- 1:29:19Speaker 4: who's another nasty pitcher. He's a lefty for the Mariners,
- 1:29:23Speaker 4: And tell one of those two come up and take
- 1:29:25Speaker 4: that rotation spot. Castillo is going to pitch every fifth day.
- 1:29:29Speaker 4: He's going to go six innings. He's gonna be shaky
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: at some point in that game, and it's whether or
- 1:29:35Speaker 4: not he gives up no runs or three runs. Right
- 1:29:37Speaker 4: like that, we we've all, we all, we all know
- 1:29:40Speaker 4: Luis Castillo. So but yeah, that guy, I'm not selling him,
- 1:29:46Speaker 4: not selling him me.
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: Just wait for the last team.
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: We're gonna have some fun yes, good, Okay, Well let's
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: get into those Texas Rangers, who were the middest of
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: mid teams last year eighty one and eighty one, five
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: hundred on the nose. A bit disappointing, I think, considering
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: what they were all leading up to, and I mean honestly,
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: part of it is because Jack Peterson really, you know,
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: did not show up for them, even though he was
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: one of their major signings of last year. They've made
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: a couple of trades here in Texas, so they brought
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: in Brandon Nemo, shipped out Marcus Simeon, and then they've
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: also recently picked up Mackenzie Gore. Ketcher is is a
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: sore spot on this roster. They've got Danny Jansen signed
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: to be their everyday catcher, splitting those duties with Kyle Higashioka.
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: They brought Chris Martin back, but that bullpen is a
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: bit of a mess right now too. It is a
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: solid rotation, I would say, a pretty solid lineup, but
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: also just kind of looking to track to be another
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: mid team because they've got pieces sometimes are healthy, sometimes
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: they aren't, and they've also just got lots of holes
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: that I don't know. It's a little bit of a
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: strange trajectory here for the Rangers, because it felt like
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: they were putting the chips in when they got to
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: Gram and then they're like trying to clos some of
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: those chips back or something. So certainly the Mackenzie Gore
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: trade was a big move, cost to them a lot
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: of prospects, but it's a solid system as well. Also,
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: maybe they're also just waiting for Sebastian Walcott to come up,
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: catch on fire and just kind.
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: Of take over the league.
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: So lots of things going on here on the Rangers.
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: One of the best pitchers parks in all the leagues.
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: So something to consider here. And with that, I'll open
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: it up, Sam, who's your bye?
- 1:31:33Speaker 4: My buye for the Rangers is going to be one
- 1:31:35Speaker 4: of those names that you mentioned, Brandon Nemo. I think
- 1:31:39Speaker 4: that coming over from the Mets, I think that that
- 1:31:43Speaker 4: surprises a lot of people. I know that it surprised
- 1:31:45Speaker 4: a lot of Mets fans. They were really upset that
- 1:31:48Speaker 4: Neimo was leaving. And I think that when players leave
- 1:31:51Speaker 4: situations like that, we're going to have a one or
- 1:31:53Speaker 4: two year run where he's going to play with a
- 1:31:54Speaker 4: chip on his shoulder. And this is somebody who regularly
- 1:31:58Speaker 4: hits twenty five home runs steal ten to fifteen bases, Like,
- 1:32:02Speaker 4: I feel like he's going to do just fine in Texas.
- 1:32:07Speaker 4: And now that Adalis isn't there, you know, he's he's
- 1:32:12Speaker 4: going to be playing every days, that he's going to
- 1:32:15Speaker 4: get six hundred and fifty plus play appearances, and so
- 1:32:20Speaker 4: I think that where he's going around pick one forty two,
- 1:32:25Speaker 4: he's that perfect boring veteran high floor. He's not a
- 1:32:29Speaker 4: high ceiling player. And if you still at that point
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: feel like you want a high ceiling player, I totally
- 1:32:36Speaker 4: respect that. But I think that this is his year.
- 1:32:39Speaker 4: He's going to have some fun in Texas and it
- 1:32:41Speaker 4: is a pitcher's park, but I think the Brandon Nemo
- 1:32:44Speaker 4: is going to do just fine there in that lineup.
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I think this is a solid buy.
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: I mean, he's your boring outfielder number three to sixty
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: US average, twenty two ish homers, eighty runs ad RBI
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: plays one hundred and fifty games every season, I think,
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: and get solid. So uh, it's good sometimes to call
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: out some of those boring picks that happened in that
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: range because that is also where you can win fantasy leagues,
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: while some people are maybe taking those dart throws on
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: Sebastian Wallcott too early. If you're putting Brandon Nemo's into
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: your outfield, just stack in a bunch of guys who
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: are putting up eighty runs eighty rbi.
- 1:33:21Speaker 3: It adds up.
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: So brew who's here by here in Texas. Well, before
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: we go there, I have to sell. I'm say I'm
- 1:33:28Speaker 2: selling Brandon Nemo.
- 1:33:29Speaker 3: Okay, here we go.
- 1:33:31Speaker 2: We just we have to go here because Samson come
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: back at me in a second from my bye. But Nemo,
- 1:33:40Speaker 2: he is Lane Thomas before he got traded to the Guardians.
- 1:33:45Speaker 2: And if you look at like, honestly, go look at
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: the stat cast, Go look at it.
- 1:33:49Speaker 3: It is nearly identical.
- 1:33:52Speaker 2: And if you actually look at the home runs that
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: Nimo would have had because he's not, you guys thrown
- 1:33:56Speaker 2: them out there, it drops ballpark out there into like
- 1:34:01Speaker 2: seventeen homers instead of twenty five last year. Like, it's
- 1:34:03Speaker 2: a pretty substantial drop off. And I think that this
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: is it's gonna be a much harder transition for him
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: than people think. And so I think you're looking at
- 1:34:13Speaker 2: a guy who ends up being more like a fifteen
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: to ten guy that hits to fifty to sixty, and yeah,
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: I think a decent counting stats, but like we're talking
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: about the same range as like Kyle Stowers and Jacob
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: Marcy and think guys like that which have a ton
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: more upside. And I get that there's a floor thing
- 1:34:30Speaker 2: here with Nemo, but like I think that the upside
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: is so capped with Nemo and the floor has actually
- 1:34:36Speaker 2: come down more than people realize with that ballpark. And
- 1:34:39Speaker 2: I have to have to go away because, like I said,
- 1:34:41Speaker 2: I just it feels like lame Thomas.
- 1:34:43Speaker 3: I just look at that profile.
- 1:34:45Speaker 2: I really know knew when he got traded, when Dane
- 1:34:48Speaker 2: Thomas got traded to the Guardians, like you knew things
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: were gonna fall off, and it just feels like the
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: same thing. And I've I feel bad because I finally,
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: like finally got bought into Nemo, like last year, finally,
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: like I've always been at the guy's he just always
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: does it and they get traded and I'm like, I
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: just can't.
- 1:35:03Speaker 3: I can't do it.
- 1:35:03Speaker 2: So I like other guys more in the range. I
- 1:35:05Speaker 2: think the ballpark hurts a lot more than people expect,
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: and there's only so long that you can do just
- 1:35:11Speaker 2: above average and a lot of things in it not
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: come crashing down.
- 1:35:14Speaker 3: So I'm out. I'm out on Brandon and Mom. I'm sorry.
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 1:35:21Speaker 4: You don't have to apologize. I just I'm strong disagree,
- 1:35:26Speaker 4: but you made really good points, and there.
- 1:35:28Speaker 2: Is that's just typical for this podcast.
- 1:35:31Speaker 3: I completely disagree, but you have a valid point.
- 1:35:34Speaker 4: Well, you know Texas's ballpark. We thought it was going
- 1:35:38Speaker 4: to be a neutral ballpark a couple of years ago,
- 1:35:40Speaker 4: and it is as it's not that way at all, right,
- 1:35:43Speaker 4: And I think that that's some of the underlying problems
- 1:35:45Speaker 4: that we have with like the cell that I have
- 1:35:48Speaker 4: that will bring up later. You saw that it was
- 1:35:51Speaker 4: starting to affect Marcus Simeon. There's a dynamic I think
- 1:35:55Speaker 4: when you're in one of those ballparks that you try
- 1:35:58Speaker 4: harder than you normally would because you're not quite getting
- 1:36:01Speaker 4: the results that you're used to. That's the way that
- 1:36:04Speaker 4: I feel about players that come to the Mariners, that
- 1:36:06Speaker 4: come to Seattle, that they want to prove that that
- 1:36:09Speaker 4: ballpark's not going to have an effect on them, and
- 1:36:11Speaker 4: it's like, no, no, dude, you just need to play
- 1:36:13Speaker 4: your game. It's ninety fifth percentile right now, You're not
- 1:36:16Speaker 4: going to be at one hundred percent. Even if you're
- 1:36:18Speaker 4: at one hundred percent, like, it's just not a thing.
- 1:36:20Speaker 4: So I can see that being real for Nemo, that
- 1:36:24Speaker 4: Nemo leaves has this chip on his shoulder and sets
- 1:36:27Speaker 4: himself up to push himself too hard and let it
- 1:36:30Speaker 4: instead of being that seasoned veteran that lets the game
- 1:36:33Speaker 4: come to him. I think he's going to have a
- 1:36:35Speaker 4: good year. But I can't disagree with anything that you said.
- 1:36:39Speaker 2: All right, well, let's try again then, because I'm buying
- 1:36:43Speaker 2: Corey Seeger. So Corey Seger, let's hear me out. This
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: is the same argument we just had a little bit ago,
- 1:36:53Speaker 2: which is, this is a guy that from twenty twenty
- 1:36:55Speaker 2: two through twenty twenty five thirty three homers, thirty three homers,
- 1:36:59Speaker 2: thirty homers. Last year, I get it was twenty one.
- 1:37:01Speaker 2: The guy had appendicitus. Give him a break, And I'm like,
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure you can't have that one twice, so
- 1:37:08Speaker 2: I'm not too worried about the injury recurring. But hey,
- 1:37:11Speaker 2: I'm not a doctor, so what do I know. And
- 1:37:14Speaker 2: this is a guy whose plate discipline got better last year. Uh,
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: he is a true two seventy to two eighty hitter,
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: and he has seemed to somehow do decent with that ballpark.
- 1:37:24Speaker 2: There was also hitting coach change last year. When that happened,
- 1:37:27Speaker 2: he like, actually he got considerably better after the hitting
- 1:37:31Speaker 2: coach change mid season, and then his appendix first, and
- 1:37:34Speaker 2: that that's all she wrote. So I think there's more
- 1:37:37Speaker 2: upside here. And Seeger he is aging a little bit
- 1:37:41Speaker 2: the same exact arguments I just had. I'm gonna own
- 1:37:44Speaker 2: this with Nemo and the ballpark and things do kind
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: of scare me. But we're talking about the eleventh shortstop
- 1:37:50Speaker 2: off the board behind Jeremy Payne Payinia. You know, we're
- 1:37:54Speaker 2: in the Trevor story, Boba Schett territory. I don't think
- 1:37:57Speaker 2: you're gonna find many other guys that could probably hit
- 1:37:59Speaker 2: thirty thirty five home runs and hit almost two to
- 1:38:01Speaker 2: eighty and knock in almost one hundred runs. Granted he's
- 1:38:04Speaker 2: never done that in his career, so I get it.
- 1:38:06Speaker 2: So there's an injury risk. I get all that, But
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: I think the price finally for Coryus years about right.
- 1:38:12Speaker 2: And I if it was a true injury last year,
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: I'd be like, yeah, we're out, but I mean, come on,
- 1:38:18Speaker 2: give the guy a break. He's appendix first.
- 1:38:21Speaker 4: Oh oh okay, No, I don't want I'm having this
- 1:38:25Speaker 4: back on nearby. This is a player who has been
- 1:38:29Speaker 4: averaging the last three seasons roughly one hundred and fifteen
- 1:38:34Speaker 4: games a season. He's not he hasn't been able to
- 1:38:38Speaker 4: stay on the field, and I agree with you. He
- 1:38:41Speaker 4: is dynamic when he is on the field. He makes
- 1:38:45Speaker 4: incredible contact and he did that his first year in Texas.
- 1:38:50Speaker 4: The year before that, he only made ninety five games
- 1:38:52Speaker 4: with LA. We won't talk about the twenty twenty season.
- 1:38:56Speaker 4: So him staying on the field is a beggar can
- 1:39:00Speaker 4: concerned for me, and I agree with you. He is
- 1:39:04Speaker 4: the eleventh shortstop taking off of the board. But I
- 1:39:07Speaker 4: would much rather have Trevor Story, who's going right at
- 1:39:10Speaker 4: the same place that he is. For the most part,
- 1:39:13Speaker 4: I would much rather. I've already talked about my love
- 1:39:15Speaker 4: for Colson Montgomery. I'd much rather wait one hundred places
- 1:39:19Speaker 4: than put something on Corey Seeger, because you at that
- 1:39:24Speaker 4: point in the draft, you're still in your first ten rounds.
- 1:39:26Speaker 4: It's round eight, round nine, whatever that is you want
- 1:39:31Speaker 4: or seven. Sorry, that's round seven. You want somebody that
- 1:39:34Speaker 4: you know is going to play one hundred and forty
- 1:39:35Speaker 4: plus games. You want, you want those plate appearances, and
- 1:39:38Speaker 4: I just if he gets those in twenty six, it's
- 1:39:42Speaker 4: going to happen on somebody else's roster. I'm gonna be
- 1:39:44Speaker 4: like hot damn Jeremy Brewer, look at the big book
- 1:39:47Speaker 4: on Jeremy. But like, man, no, I'm.
- 1:39:51Speaker 2: Maybe it's still more time in this podcast with the
- 1:39:53Speaker 2: guy that drafts like every injured pitcher, I say, my
- 1:39:58Speaker 2: injury college.
- 1:39:59Speaker 3: Is pretty That's another factor though.
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: You gotta know your draft style, your roster management style,
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: and if you know you can fill the back end
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: your roster to make up for those that month that
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: Corey Steger is gonna miss with a hammy.
- 1:40:13Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I think you can go for it.
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: But yeah, if you don't want to go that route,
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: you want somebody who's your starring shortstop, you don't have
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: to worry about that, then yeah, I can understand not
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: being in on sneakers.
- 1:40:23Speaker 2: So I think it's a very key point because my
- 1:40:26Speaker 2: draft ridge I think you heard earlier, like early rounds,
- 1:40:28Speaker 2: I am all about floor making sure I'm filling my
- 1:40:31Speaker 2: categories like I have a solid, solid team and then
- 1:40:34Speaker 2: I start taking risk in those mid to late rounds
- 1:40:37Speaker 2: to try to get my upsides to deal with that.
- 1:40:39Speaker 2: And so you're absolutely right if you don't draft that way,
- 1:40:43Speaker 2: Corey Seager could be a terrible, terrible idea if you're
- 1:40:46Speaker 2: taking risk.
- 1:40:46Speaker 4: Early well, and and if your story plays out like
- 1:40:49Speaker 4: that's that's and it's not an unbelievable story. It's not
- 1:40:52Speaker 4: like you're saying cal Rawley's going to hit sixty home runs,
- 1:40:56Speaker 4: you know, but it's if he If he does that,
- 1:40:59Speaker 4: he's absolutely a bye at that pick. You know, Corey
- 1:41:03Speaker 4: has has the ability to be a top four round pick.
- 1:41:07Speaker 4: You know, I don't think he's ever going to be
- 1:41:09Speaker 4: top two, but he could come through with two hundred
- 1:41:12Speaker 4: counting stats this year and a two eighty average plus
- 1:41:15Speaker 4: and you know, thirty bombs and a and a handful
- 1:41:19Speaker 4: of steals. Like I'll take Corey Seeger with that every day.
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: All right, Coolly, you've heard enough with Sam and I
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: disagreed on the on our two.
- 1:41:29Speaker 3: You guys are ready for mind?
- 1:41:30Speaker 2: You like, would you like to join this this discussion
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: with any bye or so at this at this point here.
- 1:41:36Speaker 4: We go Yeah, we cancel each other.
- 1:41:39Speaker 3: So well, basically you get to make the choices.
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: Then we're going by first. We'll go buy first. I'm
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: going Jake Berger first baseman. He is going off the
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: board around pick two seventy five, and yeah, he was.
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: You want to talk about having a tough season for
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: injuries last year, Jake Berger went through the gauntlet. He
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: had an oblique, he had a hamstring, he had a wrist,
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: just never kind of got into a groove, never got going.
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: And even with that, everything's fine under the hood. The
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: barrel rate, the hard hit rate, the bat speed, the
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: sprint speed, the sprint speed that we love of Jake Berger,
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: it's all there, baby. And so he was, even with
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: all those injuries, on pace in his at bats to
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: put up a mid twenties homer season.
- 1:42:28Speaker 3: And he got going, especially.
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: More towards the lay of the season, where in my
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: waiver Wire column he came in and out of the
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: waiver wire a couple times during the season because of
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: like the poor performance and the injuries, and then putting
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: it back together at the.
- 1:42:42Speaker 3: End of the season. He's got no.
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: Competition at first base right now, especially with Ortiz being
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: shipped out to the Washington Nationals, And yeah, I think
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: you're looking for a big bounce back season for Jake Berger,
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: getting back to that two fifty average, getting to thirty
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: homers at pick two seventy five. It's a great value.
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: And we've talked about a few times the back end
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: of first base, in corner, infield is tough this year.
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: Why not go with Jake Berger and make it easy
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: for yourself.
- 1:43:13Speaker 2: The only thing I want to say here is saying,
- 1:43:15Speaker 2: if you don't have the spot page picked up, we
- 1:43:18Speaker 2: have to play a game.
- 1:43:19Speaker 3: We have to play a game.
- 1:43:20Speaker 2: We do this on the podcast quite often, which is
- 1:43:22Speaker 2: name the sprint speed of this player. So for Jake Berger,
- 1:43:27Speaker 2: if you don't haven't looked at before, what's Jake Berger's
- 1:43:29Speaker 2: sprint speed? Ten percentile? Yeah, with the percentile, I got
- 1:43:35Speaker 2: to come with ten.
- 1:43:36Speaker 4: I got to come within ten percent.
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: Within ten percent. So you got a twenty point range here.
- 1:43:41Speaker 4: So so, Michael, you you in your effusive description of
- 1:43:48Speaker 4: the burner Jake Berger, I've never known him to be
- 1:43:53Speaker 4: a burner. That's not a thing that I've heard. So
- 1:43:56Speaker 4: I feel like this is a setup, like I'm being
- 1:44:00Speaker 4: pushed one way on the teeter but the totter is
- 1:44:02Speaker 4: gonna go the other way, So I am gonna say
- 1:44:05Speaker 4: twentieth percentile.
- 1:44:08Speaker 2: Jake Burger is sixty third percentile.
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: Sprint speed a front door, he says, fast as Ronald Lacunya,
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: God bless America.
- 1:44:17Speaker 4: You are kidding. That sounds like Luke Rayley when like
- 1:44:19Speaker 4: you see all the elbos and knees coming at you
- 1:44:22Speaker 4: and then you're like, oh, you're really.
- 1:44:23Speaker 2: Fast and that was the slowest year in three years.
- 1:44:26Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, same sprint speed as Joe Adel.
- 1:44:29Speaker 4: Totally, you guys, totally nailed me.
- 1:44:32Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:44:32Speaker 2: One of our favorite pastimes on this podcast is named
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: that sprint speed because it's it's always like I know
- 1:44:38Speaker 2: that you're trying to trick me here and you still
- 1:44:39Speaker 2: can't get it right.
- 1:44:41Speaker 4: No, I was way off one tick.
- 1:44:43Speaker 3: Faster than James Wood.
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: Jake Burger is like the patron saying the other patriot
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: sing of this for us is Shae Langleirs. Shay Langlears
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: is a speedy dude, so.
- 1:44:55Speaker 2: They don't know how to steal a base and they
- 1:44:56Speaker 2: can't get a jump, so it doesn't really matter.
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: But it I mean it, it's good for doubles and singles,
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: especially for you know, somebody who needs to get to
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: those bases and try to add some slug So I
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: like it. Okay, guys, ready for.
- 1:45:11Speaker 4: Myself, Jake Berger, So yeah, go ahead, I'm.
- 1:45:15Speaker 3: Going back to the well again. Josh Young.
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: You want to talk about who's about to lose their
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: job to spashion Walcott?
- 1:45:22Speaker 3: Look out, Josh Young.
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: You're going to be twenty eight next week, so happy birthday,
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: as I sell you, But I don't see it. There's
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: nothing in this profile. I like, he plays in a
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: terrible hitters park, he doesn't have the juice to hit it,
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: and you just kind of add up like he wasn't
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: even injured. Really that last year he put up five
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: hundred eleven paid appearances and it was just nothing. It
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: was a ninety one wrs plus fourteen homers two fifty
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: one average. There's nothing redeeming in this Josh Young profile.
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: And I'm just totally out because I think what's going
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: to happen is I mean, the only thing that he's
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: probably got a leg up on Walcott right now is
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: that he does place alid third base defense.
- 1:46:04Speaker 3: But if the.
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: Rangers are grasping again for Straws and they're battling the
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: five hundred mark and they need a little bit of
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: a shot in the arm. I think they're gonna say,
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: you know, Josh Young, thanks for what you put in.
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: You're starting to get a little bit long in the
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: tooth for us. It's time to go to Bastian Walcott
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: and try to find that lightning in a bottle. So
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: I'm worried about the.
- 1:46:26Speaker 3: Floor really falling out on Josh Young.
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: And even if they're you know, you gave me the
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty games out Josh Young, I don't
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: think it's gonna be anything special. There's it's barely an
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: accumulating kind of profile where it's starting to feel a
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: little bit like Cabrian Hayes with a little more power,
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: where it's like people want to Josh Young to happen,
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: but there's nothing underneath the hood that says that Josh
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: Young should really be a star in this league.
- 1:46:52Speaker 4: I can't believe he's twenty eight years old. I know,
- 1:46:54Speaker 4: like when you said that out loud, I was like,
- 1:46:56Speaker 4: you're talking about the kid in Texas.
- 1:47:00Speaker 3: Yes, it's next week.
- 1:47:01Speaker 2: That twenty twenty three season was so so tempting. Oh,
- 1:47:05Speaker 2: it's just so so poor, Like I want to disagree
- 1:47:09Speaker 2: with you because I like I've been on Just Young
- 1:47:11Speaker 2: for like two years now, and like, no, this is
- 1:47:13Speaker 2: gonna be the year like every literally every metrics says
- 1:47:16Speaker 2: it's not going to be. I'm like, I know, I
- 1:47:17Speaker 2: can't be that wrong. Yeah, it's like no, it's I
- 1:47:21Speaker 2: think we're done here.
- 1:47:23Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:47:24Speaker 4: That's a good call.
- 1:47:26Speaker 3: So that's going to wrap us up for the al West.
