- Brad Peters: Welcome to the recipe for results. This is your podcast extra for certification in the hotel, restaurant, and bar industry, brought to you by HRB Universal. Designed to turn food service managers into legally compliant safety leaders. First, you absolutely need this to operate legally. Think of this certification as a driver's license for a commercial kitchen. I mean, can you really run a restaurant without a certified person in charge on duty? Legally, no way. For logistics, you're looking at a full day at the HRB Universal Training Center down in Pensacola from 8 30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets run from $129 just for the exam up to $179 for the full review course. Second, preparation is totally mandatory here. Your morning kicks off at 8 45 and runs till 1 p.m. with a super fast paced review lecture. But, you know, you actually have to complete the self study beforehand using their online portal or the free app. You might be wondering, well, Is a four-hour morning review enough to pass an FDA-level exam? Definitely not. Relying just on the review is a total recipe for failure. Finally, we get to the afternoon execution, which runs from 2 to 4 p.m. You can bring your own device, or HRB Universal will actually hook you up with an Amazon Fire tablet. The test takes under an hour, available in English, Spanish, Chinese, and French Canadian. Why stress about bubbling in answers with a number two pencil when you can just tap through a tablet and be done? Just remember, paper tests need 20 days' advanced notice. Securing this certification isn't just about passing a test. It's the absolute requirement for keeping your customers safe and your doors legally open.
