- 0:02Welcome to Impact Ready, a show dedicated to helping.
- 0:05You elevate your. Impact in the world I'm Steph
- 0:08Safra, your host. Let's explore the power of
- 0:11showing up with intention and energy each day.
- 0:14This is for those who seek to make life truly meaningful.
- 0:17Get ready for impact. Hey team, welcome to the show.
- 0:23I'm so glad you're here. I woke up this morning to the
- 0:26sound of rain and I love the sound you can hear on the roof
- 0:30and on the windows and skylights and it just felt good.
- 0:33I think we're about to enter fall.
- 0:35The first day of fall is the 23rd Tuesday, so tomorrow.
- 0:40So I'm ready for it. I don't know about you, but I
- 0:42think the seasons are good markers for the change that we
- 0:46want in our lives. As I always say, humans don't
- 0:48want to be stagnant. We want change, and I enjoy the
- 0:51shift. I hope you do too.
- 0:53In this episode, we are going to talk about something we've
- 0:56covered before, and it's the idea of problem energy versus
- 1:01solution energy. And I think because of the shift
- 1:03in the seasons going from summer to fall, this is a good time to
- 1:05talk about it again. It's always a relevant topic,
- 1:08something that we need frequent reminders about, so it's time to
- 1:12revisit the idea. In coaching, we speak a lot
- 1:16about problems. Many of my clients bring
- 1:19problems to the table and we talk about them and we work
- 1:22through them. It's a big part of the job, as
- 1:24it should be, because when you work with people who own
- 1:27businesses or run teams or manage people, you're going to
- 1:31run into problems. I mean, hell, you run into
- 1:34problems just in your day-to-day life running a household.
- 1:37But one of the things that I teach people is that the energy
- 1:41of a problem is different than the energy of a solution.
- 1:44And this is very important to note because many people will go
- 1:48round and round with the same problem or the same types of
- 1:50problems wondering why they can't get to a resolution.
- 1:54So first what I want to do is a little recap on problem and
- 1:58solution energy so we can have our foundation for the
- 2:00conversation. Problem energy is primarily low
- 2:04frequency emotions. And if you were to measure the
- 2:07frequency of an emotion on a scale, these are all going to be
- 2:10lower measurements in Hertz. These are emotions like apathy,
- 2:15hopelessness, sadness, anger, bitterness, frustration,
- 2:20resentment, etcetera, things like that.
- 2:23Solution energy is more high frequency emotions, so they
- 2:28measure higher on the Hertz scale.
- 2:30And solution energy would include emotions like courage,
- 2:34curiosity, hope, excitement, joy, gratitude, appreciation,
- 2:38etcetera. So high frequency emotions.
- 2:42There's a scale that charts out the different emotions and their
- 2:45respective measurement. It's called the emotional scale.
- 2:49David R Hawkins. He references these measurements
- 2:52in many of his books. I'm a huge fan of David R
- 2:55Hawkins. I think I've talked about him
- 2:56before in some of my past episodes, but if you haven't
- 2:59read his books, they're really incredible.
- 3:01He's a renowned physician and researcher.
- 3:04He's written so many books. One of my favorites is called
- 3:06Letting Go. So if you haven't ever read
- 3:09anything by him, go out there and get it.
- 3:11I would start with Letting Go. It's one of my faves in
- 3:15referencing this emotional scale.
- 3:17An emotion like apathy, for example, it measures at around
- 3:2150 Hertz, whereas an emotion like joy or peace or gratitude,
- 3:26they would range from 540 to 650 Hertz on the emotional scale.
- 3:32Now that's a big difference. That's a huge gap from 50 to 650
- 3:36Hertz. And that's why when you're in
- 3:39problem energy, you can't easily get to a solution.
- 3:42It's just a totally different place.
- 3:44It's a different frequency, it's a different feeling, and we have
- 3:47to transition from problem to solution.
- 3:51So what does it look like to be in problem energy?
- 3:55What kind of actions would it be?
- 3:57Well, it looks like complaining. It's victim mentality, it's
- 4:02gossiping, it's bitching or ranting or venting.
- 4:06All those things would be classified as problem energy
- 4:10behavior. And So what does solution energy
- 4:13look like? It's how do I want to feel?
- 4:16Where do I want to go? What do I want to do?
- 4:18Who do I want to be? It's being curious, it's being
- 4:21creative, being open minded. It's listening to other people,
- 4:25being in appreciation or gratitude.
- 4:27It's feeling joy or excitement or happiness about things and
- 4:30circumstances in your life and your relationships.
- 4:33And yes, you're going to be in problem energy.
- 4:36Sometimes that's OK. Sometimes knowing what you don't
- 4:40want helps you understand what you do want.
- 4:43We've all been there before. But the other thing is that
- 4:46problem energy is often a habit for people.
- 4:50We can get stuck in a loop of negative thinking.
- 4:52We might not be watching our input very closely, so we get in
- 4:56the habit of doom scrolling or watching negative news all the
- 4:59time, or listening to pressing music or hanging out with
- 5:02negative people. And the people thing is
- 5:04interesting because problem energy is often a place where
- 5:07people find connection to other people.
- 5:10The complaining and the gossiping that happens when
- 5:13people get together, It's a way to find common ground.
- 5:17But The thing is, it's a low vibe connection.
- 5:20It's a very low frequency connection, and what we're
- 5:23looking for is a higher energy connection with people, which
- 5:26would be solution energy. Those are the friendships and
- 5:29the relationships that are quality, that fill you up.
- 5:33When you're hanging out with those people and you leave, you
- 5:35feel good, you feel uplifted, you feel cheerful, that kind of
- 5:38stuff. Not drained or depressed or
- 5:41exhausted or feeling down or discouraged.
- 5:45Now, one of the reasons I wanted to do a refresh episode on this
- 5:47topic is because I've noticed myself being in problem energy
- 5:52lately. You know, I've had some bumps in
- 5:54the road with the end of my treatment that I've shared a
- 5:57little bit about on social media.
- 5:59I've had some side effects as a result of my chemo and my
- 6:02immunotherapy that we didn't anticipate, and they affected my
- 6:06adrenals, and it's been really mentally challenging to deal
- 6:10with those side effects that kind of come and go.
- 6:12I never really know how good I'm going to feel in a day.
- 6:15I think I was in a place where I was so ready to be done with
- 6:19treatment after so many months of chemo and mastectomy surgery,
- 6:23you're just so mentally ready to move on and start feeling
- 6:26better. And when you don't immediately
- 6:28start to feel better, it messes with your head.
- 6:31And it messed with my head, to be honest.
- 6:34It scared me. It all came out of nowhere and
- 6:37for a while I was really pretty afraid of how I was feeling.
- 6:40It's been just over a month that I've been managing all of this
- 6:43and trying to recover and heal. But something I've noticed,
- 6:47especially in the last week is that I felt that I've been in
- 6:51problem energy. I felt the problem energy.
- 6:54Meaning I've been noticing that I'm talking about my struggles a
- 6:57lot. I've been focused on my symptoms
- 6:59a lot and it's like something in the last week flipped in me and
- 7:02I'm kind of sick of hearing myself talk about how I'm
- 7:04feeling. I'm really kind of sick of
- 7:06thinking about it and focusing on the symptoms and and all the
- 7:09stuff that goes along with it. And this is kind of how it
- 7:14works. We often go into problem energy
- 7:16when something hard happens and it's our process to get out of
- 7:19it. That's a very natural thing.
- 7:21I was in the problem for a while, especially in the
- 7:23beginning when I was trying to figure this all out.
- 7:25I was processing a lot of fear and emotions and I was just kind
- 7:28of in it. And it's natural to be there in
- 7:31that energy, in that place. Especially at the start of
- 7:34anything, you're working it through.
- 7:36You have to feel the feelings and let them move through you
- 7:39and have your process with it. But there's always a moment when
- 7:43things shift, and I've felt this so many times in my life, and I
- 7:46especially felt it last week. You feel like you're kind of at
- 7:50a turning point, and that's when you have a choice.
- 7:53You could stay in problem energy or you can move into solution
- 7:57energy. You know, my coach recently said
- 8:00to me, why is he so afraid? Steph, you're at the end of a
- 8:04marathon. You've been running for months
- 8:06and you're almost at the finish line.
- 8:08She said. What happens so often to people
- 8:11who are racing hard in a marathon?
- 8:13Their bodies are struggling. They look exhausted and drained.
- 8:16Sometimes people are throwing up at the line, sometimes they're
- 8:19limping across. In some cases, people have to
- 8:22carry them across the finish line.
- 8:24She was describing all this and it had me thinking, if I
- 8:28consider that analogy of the marathon, there's two different
- 8:32perspectives you could have about that kind of scene.
- 8:34You could be hyper focused on the racers ailments, only see
- 8:39they're limping, or they're throwing up and be absolutely
- 8:41freaked out or worrying and wondering what was going to
- 8:43happen to them. That feels like problem energy
- 8:46to me. Or you could zoom out and see
- 8:49the whole scene. You could see that they were
- 8:51competing and pushing and striving to get to that finish
- 8:55line, but it was all for a purpose and a reason if
- 8:59something they wanted to do and that they would be OK after they
- 9:03recovered from the race. And when I think about that
- 9:06perspective, it feels like solution energy.
- 9:09And I've decided that I want that second perspective.
- 9:12I want to zoom out and see the finish line and the race.
- 9:16I don't want to be in fear anymore.
- 9:17I don't want to be hyper focused on the symptoms or the days that
- 9:20don't feel that great. I want to keep my eyes forward
- 9:24and my heart open and focus on healing.
- 9:28I want to level set my expectations about how fast
- 9:31things should happen because my expectations are always a little
- 9:34off and just do what I can control day by day.
- 9:39And as I'm talking about all this, I wonder what kind of
- 9:42marathon you might be running in your life.
- 9:45Maybe you're doing the work in a relationship that's been really
- 9:47hard, but you know it's worth it because you love that person.
- 9:52Maybe you've been grinding at work for the promotion or the
- 9:54opportunity that you really want and you haven't gotten there
- 9:56yet, but you will. Maybe you took a big risk and
- 10:00left your job, or you moved to another city, or you had that
- 10:03hard conversation with someone that you care about and things
- 10:06aren't great yet, but they will be.
- 10:09Maybe you're hustling so hard to get yourself in a good financial
- 10:12place and maybe pay off a bunch of debt and you aren't free yet,
- 10:16but you will be. In any of those circumstances,
- 10:20it can feel really easy to be focused on the problems.
- 10:23We can all acknowledge that you don't have to look very far to
- 10:26find a problem, right? But I know that we all want to
- 10:30get to our solutions and at some point we have to make a
- 10:33conscious choice to shift our energy, shift our energy from
- 10:37problem to solution. So my challenge for you this
- 10:41week is to look around and see where are you in problem energy
- 10:45in your life and Are you ready to make a shift so you can get
- 10:49to solution energy? Are there any marathons that
- 10:52you're running right now? And are you aware of what
- 10:55perspective you might have about it?
- 10:58I've learned this lesson so many times and I know that I'm not
- 11:02done learning it. It's part of growth and
- 11:04expansion. We get better and better, but we
- 11:06never stop learning. And this lesson will hit me
- 11:08again and again. But I'm OK with that.
- 11:11I'm OK with putting in the reps so that I can be in solution
- 11:13energy as much as I can be. So look, as we close today,
- 11:18we'll just note you might be in the problem sometimes and that's
- 11:22OK. It is, but it's not where you're
- 11:25going to find the solution. So that's all for today.
- 11:28Thank you for being here and for listening.
- 11:30And as always, thank you for being ready to Impact.
