- 0:00Speaker 1: The following program is produced by the Tech Talk Radio Network.
- 0:03Speaker 2: All right, people, take.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Out your notebooks and pencils and frive roles.
- 0:06Speaker 3: You're listening to to tech Talk Radio with true geeks.
- 0:10Speaker 3: And by the way, I'm Bastider and I'm a geek.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Go and welcome to another episode of tech Talk Radio.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean de Weird, and we have
- 0:21Speaker 1: the show that talks about computers, technology and the Internet.
- 0:25Speaker 1: And we need to start off the show sending condolences
- 0:28Speaker 1: to Justin. A family member of his has passed away,
- 0:32Speaker 1: and so Justin's going to be out for a couple
- 0:33Speaker 1: of weeks dealing with that. But from everybody here, we
- 0:36Speaker 1: send our thoughts and condolences to the family. But it's
- 0:39Speaker 1: good to see you, Sean. Everything going well there in
- 0:43Speaker 1: good old South Bend.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Yeah, it's been busy. Last Saturday. We did three shows
- 0:49Speaker 3: on three separate networks.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Three separate So for those who don't know, Sean works
- 0:53Speaker 1: for Notre Dame and you help compile all the sports
- 0:57Speaker 1: shows and everything else that's going on.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Yeah, broadcast this year for the University of nor Dame,
- 1:03Speaker 3: specifically nor Dame Studios with channels I cost the live
- 1:07Speaker 3: armor of the university. Basically, anything live broadcast wise or
- 1:11Speaker 3: university wise, it comes out of the university g Star department.
- 1:13Speaker 3: And last Saturday, we did a men's basketball game on
- 1:16Speaker 3: the CW, women's lacrosse on ESPN, and Notre Dame hockey
- 1:19Speaker 3: No Name hockey on Peacock.
- 1:21Speaker 1: All within the same day. So how do you how
- 1:23Speaker 1: do you do something like that where you go from
- 1:25Speaker 1: one location obviously in hockey and then you go to lacrosse.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Is it all pre set up? Do you set that up? Oh?
- 1:31Speaker 2: Yeah, we have.
- 1:31Speaker 3: We have a team that just kind of sets it
- 1:33Speaker 3: all up and gets going. And two of the games
- 1:35Speaker 3: happened simultaneously, So men's basketball, lacrosse happened both at the
- 1:38Speaker 3: same time, and then hockey didn't start until much later
- 1:41Speaker 3: in the evening. I was in charge of basketball and
- 1:43Speaker 3: lacrosse and then kind of babysit hockey a little bit
- 1:46Speaker 3: for a new a newer employee who's getting his feet
- 1:49Speaker 3: wet in hockey. But it was it was a legal
- 1:51Speaker 3: sixteen hour day on Saturday.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Now that these these air on the CW, Peacock and
- 1:55Speaker 1: whatever network picks it up, do they also air live
- 1:58Speaker 1: on the web? Like you do. You stream it, so
- 2:01Speaker 1: people who went to Notre Dame they can only watch it.
- 2:04Speaker 3: So it depends on what platform it is, right, It
- 2:06Speaker 3: all depends on the media rights. So the CW just
- 2:09Speaker 3: airs on the CW. The lacrosse game was on ACC
- 2:13Speaker 3: Dot Work Extra. Yeah, and then hockey was streaming on Peacock,
- 2:16Speaker 3: So you'd have to have a subscription to watch Peacock.
- 2:18Speaker 1: But other than that, now, I know, last year you
- 2:20Speaker 1: got a chance to go out to the NAB for
- 2:23Speaker 1: the big It's like the National Association Broadcasters. They do
- 2:27Speaker 1: this big thing where you get to see the latest
- 2:29Speaker 1: tech and the latest software, the latest hardware, everything that's
- 2:32Speaker 1: happening with that. Are they going Are you gonna be
- 2:34Speaker 1: going again this year? No.
- 2:35Speaker 3: The biggest show that we do for the university, it's
- 2:38Speaker 3: two days, twenty hours of content over those two days.
- 2:41Speaker 3: It's called Notre Dame Days. The biggest fundraiser we do
- 2:43Speaker 3: for the university falls on the Tuesday.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Wednesday of NAB.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Oh boy, yeah, so I was all I had. I
- 2:49Speaker 3: had tickets, I had my hotel booked and my flights
- 2:52Speaker 3: booked and everything. They announced the days for the not
- 2:54Speaker 3: Name Day and it fell right on that Tuesday Wednesday
- 2:56Speaker 3: of NAB plus that Saturday is there's a lot happening
- 3:01Speaker 3: in that stretch. The Nerdame Blue Gold football game, the
- 3:03Speaker 3: spring game is happening that Saturday. Not being able to
- 3:06Speaker 3: set up for end of day until Sunday and Monday,
- 3:09Speaker 3: it's just a whole rigormar all things that just fell that.
- 3:13Speaker 3: You know, I got to go once. It was the
- 3:14Speaker 3: first time I ever been. I was excited to go
- 3:17Speaker 3: back because you know, you missed, you missed stuff the
- 3:18Speaker 3: first time you go to a conference, right, you don't
- 3:20Speaker 3: know what you're doing, you don't know where you are,
- 3:22Speaker 3: and now I can't go again.
- 3:23Speaker 1: And then you found out that they, oh they had
- 3:25Speaker 1: an exhibit you didn't even know. Yeah, that happens.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Like I was like, well, let's find another one. It's like,
- 3:29Speaker 3: let's go to infocom. Right, that falls over my birthday.
- 3:34Speaker 3: So I've already got plans for my birthday because its
- 3:36Speaker 3: my fortieth. It's gonna so the technical gods have not
- 3:39Speaker 3: fallen in my favor for conferences this year. Maybe maybe
- 3:43Speaker 3: I'll get to go to IBC, which is the International
- 3:46Speaker 3: Broadcasters Conference, which is in Amsterdam, which would be awesome.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Now you will be going to this year's gaming conference.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, that that's I moved by. I'll move having
- 3:55Speaker 3: on Earth to go to that. That's I've been going
- 3:57Speaker 3: to that for over a decade.
- 3:59Speaker 1: You always send us some great photos from that too.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I mean it's it's.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Yeah, it's called gen Con. It's called gen Con.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:05Speaker 3: It's dubbed as the best four days in gaming. It's
- 4:09Speaker 3: outside of Essen, which is the Game the Game Conference
- 4:12Speaker 3: in Germany. It's one of the largest board game tabletop
- 4:15Speaker 3: gaming conferences in the world. It's a four day event
- 4:18Speaker 3: in Indianapolis. Board games, RPGs, D and D, card games, Magic,
- 4:23Speaker 3: the gathering, you name it, it'll be done there.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Wow.
- 4:25Speaker 3: I usually yeah, it's great time. But I've been going
- 4:28Speaker 3: since twenty fourteen, but I've had friends and family that
- 4:31Speaker 3: have been going for all the way back into the
- 4:32Speaker 3: seventies when it started.
- 4:34Speaker 1: So well, that's gonna be good. Due. Well, we'll look
- 4:36Speaker 1: forward to the coverage on that one. But a lot
- 4:38Speaker 1: going on this week. You know. Apple has been in
- 4:41Speaker 1: the news because they had their big conference. They've got
- 4:44Speaker 1: some stuff coming up towards later in this week before
- 4:46Speaker 1: the show airs, and there was some other information that
- 4:49Speaker 1: went out that maybe they didn't want to go out.
- 4:51Speaker 1: But first off, I got to ask you about the
- 4:53Speaker 1: iPhone seventeen eight. Did you get it? Watched the Apple
- 4:56Speaker 1: announcement or anything?
- 4:57Speaker 2: I did not.
- 4:58Speaker 3: I've been so busy I haven't kept up on that.
- 5:00Speaker 3: I know that they announced the seventeen e, I don't
- 5:02Speaker 3: honestly even know any of the details.
- 5:04Speaker 1: It has the A nineteen chip, two hundred and fifty
- 5:06Speaker 1: six gig based storage, and forty eight megapixel camera. And
- 5:10Speaker 1: they said that the starting price of this is going
- 5:12Speaker 1: to be about five hundred ninety nine bucks, because I
- 5:15Speaker 1: think when we think of smartphones, we now put those
- 5:18Speaker 1: in that eight hundred and ninety nine dollars to fifteen
- 5:21Speaker 1: hundred dollars, depending on what features you're going to get.
- 5:24Speaker 1: So having a phone that you know runs on the
- 5:27Speaker 1: iOS interface that people you know do like is probably
- 5:31Speaker 1: a really good thing. People are going to be liking
- 5:33Speaker 1: the fact that they can get now a phone not
- 5:35Speaker 1: as expensive. There was a lot of people talking about
- 5:39Speaker 1: the last model that they put out, the S model,
- 5:43Speaker 1: and they said what they stood for super cheap. I
- 5:45Speaker 1: think is what you had mentioned Las.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Yeah, the SC Yeah, I think Kalen had the fifteen
- 5:51Speaker 3: sc or whatever at one point, it had the plastic
- 5:54Speaker 3: back and it was it just was not a great phone.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Those that are in the iOS interface that don't have,
- 6:00Speaker 1: you know, the money to get the promaxes and the
- 6:02Speaker 1: pros and whatnot, they just want a phone. This could
- 6:06Speaker 1: be This could be a good solution for somebody.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, everybody's looking for a reliable, relatively inexpensive option.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Not everybody can afford to drop eleven hundred dollars on
- 6:18Speaker 3: a phone, yeah, which is a lot, right, That's just
- 6:20Speaker 3: a lot of money. Yeah, And if you don't buy
- 6:24Speaker 3: it outright, you're tied into some dumb two year contract
- 6:28Speaker 3: with inflated prices. You're tied into their contract and you don't.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Own the phone.
- 6:34Speaker 3: It's the whole thing, Right, I'd rather I personally buy
- 6:37Speaker 3: my phone's directly from Apple and then I own it.
- 6:39Speaker 3: I can do what I want with it. I can
- 6:40Speaker 3: go to whatever carrier I want. If I wanted to
- 6:42Speaker 3: leave Verizon, it just feels better to be to do
- 6:45Speaker 3: that versus Verizon owning the phone being able to control
- 6:49Speaker 3: a lot more of the back end of stuff.
- 6:51Speaker 1: But the downside too, was when when you buy a phone,
- 6:54Speaker 1: and you're paying for it, and you're paying on you know,
- 6:57Speaker 1: the month system. Well, what happens is after a while
- 7:02Speaker 1: you end up finding that they've got a new model
- 7:05Speaker 1: now and you maybe own your phone for maybe seven
- 7:08Speaker 1: months and something.
- 7:09Speaker 2: I mean, they always have.
- 7:11Speaker 3: These aggressive buyback programs, right. But it's like the life
- 7:13Speaker 3: cycle of devices. The way the technology is going so fast, right,
- 7:18Speaker 3: is the life cycle devices is one year. Yeah, and
- 7:21Speaker 3: it's done like one year and it's just out it.
- 7:23Speaker 3: It's just we're out of the next thing.
- 7:25Speaker 1: That causes some people fatigue, though, doesn't it?
- 7:27Speaker 2: I mean, sure, of course it does.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Yeah, because there's a consumer mindset. Consume means to just
- 7:34Speaker 3: take and consume. Some people have an addiction to consuming,
- 7:40Speaker 3: meaning I have to have the newest, best thing. It's
- 7:42Speaker 3: a mindset, it's a lifestyle. I'm running iPhone thirteen Pro
- 7:46Speaker 3: and before that I had a seven plus.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Yeah, you waited a while. I'm not.
- 7:50Speaker 3: I mean, I'm satisfied with my phone. It does everything
- 7:53Speaker 3: I needed to do, and it does more than I
- 7:55Speaker 3: needed to do.
- 7:56Speaker 2: I also don't live on my phone. Right.
- 7:58Speaker 1: They'll tell though, is faster process, longer battery life, which again,
- 8:02Speaker 1: every time they put out of a new device. That's
- 8:04Speaker 1: what they're gonna say, whether that's whether it's Samsung or
- 8:07Speaker 1: whether it's it's Apple or or Google.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Right.
- 8:11Speaker 3: So it's interesting because in my mind, the world's technology
- 8:15Speaker 3: it was all about compression, better data speeds, bettert file sizes. Right,
- 8:20Speaker 3: that's going to continue to get better, which it does,
- 8:23Speaker 3: which means you can store more and do it faster.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Right, But we just.
- 8:27Speaker 3: Keep extending how big things are, how big the files are. Right,
- 8:30Speaker 3: Nobody needs to record eight K on their phone. Nobody
- 8:33Speaker 3: needs to record four K on their phone if you're
- 8:35Speaker 3: watching it out of two inch you know, four by
- 8:37Speaker 3: two inch screen, right, No, you're never gonna notice that.
- 8:40Speaker 1: But a content creator might want some of those.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Sure, no, I understand. But again, I don't live. I
- 8:47Speaker 3: don't make money off my phone. It serves a purpose.
- 8:50Speaker 3: I text that's a text, and scroll YouTube and Reddit
- 8:54Speaker 3: on my phone.
- 8:54Speaker 2: That's all I do, don't you think?
- 8:56Speaker 1: Do you think some of the phone manufacturers, whether it
- 8:59Speaker 1: be the Big three or or whatnot, would eventually like
- 9:03Speaker 1: you to not have a computer a laptop and.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Have you to do That's what That's what Amazon wants,
- 9:08Speaker 3: That's what Jeff Bezos has come out and said, I
- 9:11Speaker 3: want you to rent your computer in the cloud. I
- 9:13Speaker 3: want you to do all your computer processing in the cloud.
- 9:16Speaker 3: You're just gonna have a screen that connects to the
- 9:17Speaker 3: Internet and that's your that that's your computer. You're not
- 9:20Speaker 3: gonna do any of your processing in the cloud. And
- 9:22Speaker 3: Microsoft's been toying with it. Xboxes does it. You can
- 9:25Speaker 3: do Xbox streaming. It's crazy to think that not only
- 9:29Speaker 3: are you not going to own your content, you're not
- 9:31Speaker 3: gonna own the devices that it's done on. Meaning if
- 9:34Speaker 3: you don't have Internet, you're just host. Yeah, and it's
- 9:37Speaker 3: just a weird It's just a weird place where in
- 9:40Speaker 3: now where you don't you're just as a consumer, you're
- 9:42Speaker 3: starting to just not own things, including game your own
- 9:46Speaker 3: stuff that you pay for, which is weird.
- 9:49Speaker 1: We don't see this as much, or we don't hear
- 9:51Speaker 1: about this as much in the smartphone world even tablet world,
- 9:56Speaker 1: but as PC users we're fighting. Everything is is more
- 10:00Speaker 1: expensive now, hard drive space. I saw a kid the
- 10:03Speaker 1: other day. I was walking by. I was coming out
- 10:05Speaker 1: of the grocery store here and I was going to
- 10:07Speaker 1: get my car, and I saw a kid sitting in
- 10:09Speaker 1: a car, probably about nineteen eighteen years old, and he
- 10:13Speaker 1: was going through a package and he opened it and
- 10:15Speaker 1: I just, you know, I caught the corner of my
- 10:16Speaker 1: eye and it was Ram. And the kid had a
- 10:18Speaker 1: couple of you know, it looked like hyper X memory sticks.
- 10:21Speaker 1: And I looked at him and this window is that.
- 10:23Speaker 1: I said, to get a good deal on those, you know,
- 10:27Speaker 1: And he's like, oh yeah, A friend of mine from
- 10:28Speaker 1: work sold him. Because RAM right now is at a
- 10:31Speaker 1: premium hard drive space. We're hearing now is coming out
- 10:34Speaker 1: of premium because it's all going to well AI developers
- 10:38Speaker 1: or AI cloud storage.
- 10:39Speaker 2: We have talked on the show.
- 10:41Speaker 3: In the just over the decade that I've been on
- 10:44Speaker 3: the show, We've just been constantly talking about here's how
- 10:46Speaker 3: you build drug computer. It's so much fun. It's relatively inexpensive.
- 10:49Speaker 3: It's cheaper than buying it from the store.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Now it's just expensive. Yeah, it's absurd.
- 10:53Speaker 1: I had a shop recently and I think I said
- 10:56Speaker 1: this story they built. I built two high end computers
- 11:00Speaker 1: for them. I mean top of the line graphics, top
- 11:02Speaker 1: of the line storage, top of the line RAM top motherboard,
- 11:05Speaker 1: the whole bit. They loved it. They absolutely loved it,
- 11:09Speaker 1: and I remember the owner of that company called me
- 11:11Speaker 1: and he said, hey, I need a new system. And
- 11:15Speaker 1: I told him, I said, cool, you know what are
- 11:17Speaker 1: you going to do with it? And he told me,
- 11:18Speaker 1: he says, you know, it's going to be for accounting,
- 11:20Speaker 1: but occasionally he wants to do some printing on he
- 11:22Speaker 1: works with Correl works with for a print shop. And
- 11:26Speaker 1: I said, cool, let me see what I come up with.
- 11:28Speaker 1: I started pricing out the boards, the memory, that system
- 11:33Speaker 1: that originally you know, a couple of years ago, for
- 11:36Speaker 1: a new one. He spent eighteen hundred and fifty bucks
- 11:39Speaker 1: for this system that's without monitor, without keyboard, mouse, the
- 11:42Speaker 1: whole bit. This system was going to be close to
- 11:44Speaker 1: twenty six hundred dollars. And that's just I could still
- 11:48Speaker 1: make a little on it. But for him to get
- 11:50Speaker 1: the top of the line, his son ended up finding
- 11:54Speaker 1: a I think it's a Dell. He ended up getting
- 11:56Speaker 1: up a high end Dell system that was great. It
- 12:00Speaker 1: had every I mean, he still ended up hiring me
- 12:03Speaker 1: to come in and transfer his data from the old
- 12:05Speaker 1: computer and get it onto the new one. But in hindsight,
- 12:09Speaker 1: you can't buy a computer you could do a year
- 12:11Speaker 1: ago for the same amount of money.
- 12:13Speaker 2: No, I know, it's it's wild to think.
- 12:15Speaker 3: You know, I bought I upgraded by RAM when Monster
- 12:18Speaker 3: Hunter Rise came out. Yeah, that's right, because you know,
- 12:22Speaker 3: I was running sixteen gigs RAM and it was like
- 12:24Speaker 3: at the bottom end of the spectru that and I
- 12:26Speaker 3: bumped it up and I'm running thirty two gigs of
- 12:28Speaker 3: RAM now and it was d d R five And
- 12:30Speaker 3: I looked back at that look but I know it
- 12:32Speaker 3: was like, it's three times the price of what I
- 12:34Speaker 3: paid for it now.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Yeah, it's crazy to think about.
- 12:37Speaker 1: You're almost you're almost better off going right now to
- 12:40Speaker 1: big box stores, Like if you don't get Best Buy,
- 12:44Speaker 1: check out their open box stuff. I've had great successful
- 12:47Speaker 1: the laptop that I bought an open box save save
- 12:50Speaker 1: quite a bit of money on that. But even stores
- 12:52Speaker 1: at Costco or Sam's Club. I mean, I I've always
- 12:55Speaker 1: touted build it yourself. You're gonna have the joy of
- 12:58Speaker 1: building it yourself, but you gotta have a little deeper
- 13:00Speaker 1: wallet or be very select full. Now, maybe not spend
- 13:04Speaker 1: as much on that high end graphics card. Maybe go
- 13:07Speaker 1: a couple generations down and spend a little more on
- 13:09Speaker 1: the RAM or what you would want from it.
- 13:11Speaker 3: So think about it, right, and videos said, Man, we're
- 13:14Speaker 3: not making cars to like twenty twenty seven.
- 13:16Speaker 2: What does that mean for game development?
- 13:18Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 13:19Speaker 2: What does that mean for you know?
- 13:20Speaker 3: You just had this ridiculous rise in quality of video
- 13:24Speaker 3: games right in the last two decades, just explode it.
- 13:26Speaker 3: But now we've just hit this plateau where they're not
- 13:29Speaker 3: gonna develop They can't develop games that people are gonna
- 13:31Speaker 3: be able to play because they don't the equipment to
- 13:33Speaker 3: do it. So are we gonna see is it gonna
- 13:35Speaker 3: level off for a while? Are we going to see
- 13:36Speaker 3: a decrease in quality so that we can get people
- 13:39Speaker 3: back in on those that are running the twenty sixties
- 13:42Speaker 3: and that you know, the ten sixties, ten to seventies,
- 13:44Speaker 3: Like there's a lot of people still running a lot
- 13:45Speaker 3: of those cards, a lot of those early generation RTCH
- 13:48Speaker 3: card can't afford upgrade.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Now.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Well, the other thing too, is the game developers will
- 13:52Speaker 1: just say, well, let's just port it. So instead you're
- 13:55Speaker 1: buying something on a console, whether you have an Xbox
- 13:58Speaker 1: or a PlayStation a Nintendo, it's gonna be playing on
- 14:01Speaker 1: that console, nor.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Is or are we gonna be forced down a fork
- 14:05Speaker 3: in the road. It takes us to AI just to
- 14:08Speaker 3: stream in the cloud. The cloud can support it. Now
- 14:10Speaker 3: we've got all these crazy GPUs.
- 14:12Speaker 2: And stuff that you can rent in the cloud, right.
- 14:14Speaker 2: I don't want to rent to play the games that
- 14:16Speaker 2: I own?
- 14:17Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Oh I got an hour to play games. Let me
- 14:19Speaker 3: dial up the Amazon instance for an hour. That's four
- 14:22Speaker 3: hours and eighty five cents per hour or something stupid.
- 14:26Speaker 3: That's what it's coming down to. I deal enough with
- 14:28Speaker 3: with SaaS in the cloud right now, Software as a
- 14:31Speaker 3: service for those of you who don't do cloud stuff
- 14:33Speaker 3: right right.
- 14:34Speaker 2: And it's money.
- 14:35Speaker 3: The clock literally starts ticking as soon as you run
- 14:37Speaker 3: the instance, and it's the bandwidth is there, and if
- 14:40Speaker 3: you don't shut it off, you pay for it. So
- 14:42Speaker 3: it's wild to think that that's where we're going. Where
- 14:44Speaker 3: we're gonna just have a meter running on our computer.
- 14:47Speaker 3: So now what I used to pay for internet? I
- 14:50Speaker 3: mean I used to pay for internet, right, but you
- 14:51Speaker 3: used to pay by the minute. We're just back to
- 14:53Speaker 3: paying more for what we already had at less quality.
- 14:58Speaker 1: I was talking to somebody the other day about that,
- 15:00Speaker 1: about the cost of things versus and let's face it,
- 15:03Speaker 1: there are AI solutions now for just about anything. And
- 15:08Speaker 1: I was telling them, yeah, you know, I've got the
- 15:10Speaker 1: Adobe Suite, I do the whole cloud, Creative Cloud to
- 15:14Speaker 1: do the full thing on that. And I found something
- 15:18Speaker 1: new that's available from Adobe. It's the Adobe Animator, which
- 15:23Speaker 1: is actually kind of fun. I don't see a practical
- 15:26Speaker 1: purpose for it, at least for me yet, but it's
- 15:28Speaker 1: kind of fun to play with and it's neat. But
- 15:31Speaker 1: I had taken a photo of Mickey Rooney that I
- 15:34Speaker 1: had with me and my former morning show partner, and
- 15:37Speaker 1: it was it was bad. I was taken with film
- 15:40Speaker 1: camera back in nineteen ninety two, not the best situation,
- 15:44Speaker 1: not the best camera. So I took this photo and
- 15:45Speaker 1: I was looking at him, go I wish it was
- 15:47Speaker 1: a better picture. So I put it in a Photoshop
- 15:49Speaker 1: and I was adjusting it a little. I was like, okay, still.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Then I said let's see what Gemini can do. And
- 15:55Speaker 1: Gemini cleaned it up. And the thing is is like,
- 15:57Speaker 1: I wonder if people will get to a point they go, well,
- 15:59Speaker 1: let's just let let AI do it. You know, is
- 16:01Speaker 1: Adobe gonna eventually? I mean, I know this is probably
- 16:03Speaker 1: stupid to even say. But will Adobe eventually just say
- 16:07Speaker 1: everything's AI? But it's our AI model now and you
- 16:11Speaker 1: need to create this. Tell it what you want to
- 16:13Speaker 1: create and it can do it. You know. I wonder
- 16:14Speaker 1: if some of these great software is, like you know,
- 16:17Speaker 1: Adobe or some of the correll or some of those
- 16:19Speaker 1: others will eventually all just be cloud based.
- 16:22Speaker 3: We're about to go into a dark black hole of content. Yeah,
- 16:27Speaker 3: and it's gonna be AI content. And corporations don't care
- 16:30Speaker 3: about who they pay for their art as long as
- 16:32Speaker 3: it looks good and start sales product. Right, So now
- 16:35Speaker 3: you're going to take all of this human element out
- 16:38Speaker 3: of art and it's gonna become so sterile and so ugly.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Yeah, and it may not look ugly, but it's gonna
- 16:45Speaker 2: feel ugly.
- 16:46Speaker 3: You're in a world right now where you have to
- 16:48Speaker 3: critically think about stuff to whether or not it's AI?
- 16:50Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 16:51Speaker 2: Was that image generated? AI? Was that video generated? I trust?
- 16:55Speaker 2: But verify?
- 16:55Speaker 3: How do you do that in a world of AI
- 16:57Speaker 3: where everything looks so good it's getting better too, and
- 17:00Speaker 3: it's getting better. So and now you're paying pennies on
- 17:04Speaker 3: the dollar for content that would have cost you know,
- 17:07Speaker 3: x amount of dollars for a real person to do
- 17:09Speaker 3: it with revisions and feedback and critical feedback. You're paying
- 17:12Speaker 3: somebody for a product. Those people are now out of jobs.
- 17:15Speaker 3: You're taking fundamental humanity out of the world in content creation.
- 17:21Speaker 2: For just I don't even know how to explain it.
- 17:23Speaker 3: It's so mind boggling that in a world that values
- 17:27Speaker 3: art and humanities, we're just tossing it into the wood chipper.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Let's take, for an example, something that I experimented with
- 17:34Speaker 1: this week and I sent one to Sean and one
- 17:37Speaker 1: to Justin. People have been telling me about Suno and
- 17:40Speaker 1: Suno is Ai is a generative AI music platform that
- 17:44Speaker 1: helps you create high quality songs including lyrics, vocals, and instrumentation.
- 17:51Speaker 1: All you do is you simply text prompt it and
- 17:53Speaker 1: you could generate music and various genres and by describing
- 17:57Speaker 1: the style, the mood, the topic. Now, for me, as
- 18:01Speaker 1: a professional in broadcasting that does a lot of commercial
- 18:05Speaker 1: production for others as well as this station too, the
- 18:09Speaker 1: idea of buying a music library has been great. We've
- 18:11Speaker 1: got a music library here on CD that we've had
- 18:14Speaker 1: since nineteen ninety four and it sounds like it, but
- 18:17Speaker 1: we find that there are ways to use that and
- 18:20Speaker 1: shorten stuff up, and it sounds good. It's good. But
- 18:22Speaker 1: I was doing commercial for somebody else the other day
- 18:24Speaker 1: and we needed some upbeat, kind of fun music, and
- 18:28Speaker 1: I thought I couldn't find anything. So I went on
- 18:32Speaker 1: to Souno and I started looking at it and then
- 18:34Speaker 1: I was like, ooh, I couldn't ask it to generate this.
- 18:37Speaker 1: So I had to create a song for us for
- 18:39Speaker 1: tech Talk radio, and I was kind of I'll be
- 18:41Speaker 1: honest with you, I was blown away.
- 18:43Speaker 3: You said it to me and you just said, hey,
- 18:46Speaker 3: listen to this. You didn't tell me it was Ai,
- 18:48Speaker 3: and I was like, oh, this is a good country song.
- 18:50Speaker 3: I was like, oh wait, it's about tech talk. Oh wait,
- 18:52Speaker 3: it's using her names, it's mentioned you who. This is cool.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Oh it's Aisy, It's cool.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Now it was gonna yeah, there's a lot outroard now, Sean.
- 19:02Speaker 1: But people are saying, wait a minute, that people are
- 19:04Speaker 1: going to create music. My son has created music, has
- 19:08Speaker 1: put out albums, and but he did it the old
- 19:11Speaker 1: fashioned way. I mean, do you actually you know you
- 19:13Speaker 1: had to put together the beach, You had to do
- 19:15Speaker 1: all of that. Now they have computers that can generate
- 19:18Speaker 1: these instruments that sounds so good. The vocals even sound good.
- 19:23Speaker 1: It's a song that is really just yours because it's
- 19:27Speaker 1: created with your prompts and they have a free plan.
- 19:30Speaker 1: They also have a paid option. I went ahead and
- 19:32Speaker 1: I did the paid option because I said to me myself,
- 19:35Speaker 1: I don't want another subscription but ten dollars a month
- 19:38Speaker 1: and I could cancel it anytime. I want to see
- 19:41Speaker 1: what I can do with this. I want to do
- 19:42Speaker 1: a segment on Chemisty Fox eleven about Souno. But to
- 19:46Speaker 1: be able to use something that I create, I have
- 19:48Speaker 1: to have a paid plan. And say I have a
- 19:51Speaker 1: paid plan and I create something with it, and then
- 19:54Speaker 1: I have it on the website. Well, if I stop
- 19:57Speaker 1: my paid plan, legally I have to take it off
- 19:59Speaker 1: the website. It's really their creation. Yes, I'm paying to
- 20:03Speaker 1: use it.
- 20:03Speaker 3: Yes, that's what people don't understand. When you're generating this
- 20:06Speaker 3: stuff on there in the fine print, you don't own
- 20:10Speaker 3: a thing in some of these places, A lot of
- 20:13Speaker 3: the free ones, a lot of the stuff that you
- 20:15Speaker 3: can get for free or that's.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Cheap, you don't own it.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Meaning if you create something that goes viral, they can
- 20:20Speaker 3: come back and say, well, that's really are so you
- 20:23Speaker 3: potentially owe us a bunch of money for that.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Yeah, or or you pay you continue to pay the license. Yeah,
- 20:28Speaker 1: you can still have it.
- 20:29Speaker 3: It's a mile to think how much people don't realize
- 20:32Speaker 3: they don't own anymore.
- 20:33Speaker 1: It's like that guy Seth drums and I don't know
- 20:35Speaker 1: how he gets his music. I don't know if he
- 20:37Speaker 1: uses Sony or another, but he takes songs and you
- 20:39Speaker 1: gotta look at this guy online, Seth drums. He creates
- 20:43Speaker 1: these songs, but he gives them a twist. So imagine
- 20:46Speaker 1: in the Air Tonight by Phil Collins done as a
- 20:48Speaker 1: dark country song and it sounds really good. I honestly
- 20:51Speaker 1: have listened to a song. I would buy a CD
- 20:53Speaker 1: of these songs. They're the songs we love yet, but
- 20:57Speaker 1: they've had takedowns because it's songs that somebody else has recorded, obviously,
- 21:02Speaker 1: and he's just manipulating them.
- 21:04Speaker 3: Yeah, And I've said it before, Andie is just getting
- 21:07Speaker 3: to a scary point where you're just taking the human
- 21:10Speaker 3: element out of.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Everything, and how do you do that with music?
- 21:14Speaker 3: There it's such a weird, such a weird spot with
- 21:17Speaker 3: AI right now, like we don't know what to believe
- 21:20Speaker 3: you don't and you know, I'm finding myself using less
- 21:23Speaker 3: and less AI.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Yeah, like I just don't do it because I just
- 21:27Speaker 2: need if I needed, not like I do it just.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Rarely to look up just to hey, can you calculate
- 21:32Speaker 3: this resistor value for me?
- 21:34Speaker 2: Or like things like that, like can you find this
- 21:36Speaker 2: in the.
- 21:37Speaker 3: Manual for me? Or But it's like I'm not using it.
- 21:40Speaker 2: To do stuff.
- 21:41Speaker 3: However, the oh, the music thing or the pseudo Yeah,
- 21:45Speaker 3: I've got I've had this project that I've wanted to
- 21:47Speaker 3: do for a long time. Right, So BlizzCon which is
- 21:50Speaker 3: the Blizzard convention they do every year, well, they had
- 21:54Speaker 3: they have a short film.
- 21:56Speaker 2: Contest, oh wow.
- 21:58Speaker 3: And for the longest time, I've wanted to do a
- 22:00Speaker 3: parody video. So think of it like you know those
- 22:04Speaker 3: old CD commercials that had the scrolling song titles and
- 22:07Speaker 3: they would come out and talk about them and air
- 22:09Speaker 3: like five second clips of these songs, a ten CD
- 22:12Speaker 3: compilation of all these songs, and I want to do
- 22:15Speaker 3: parodies of real songs, but in like Blizzard thematics, right,
- 22:21Speaker 3: And I've never had an opportunity because it's like, how
- 22:24Speaker 3: do I come up with song titles? How do I
- 22:25Speaker 3: come up with songs that I want to do? How
- 22:27Speaker 3: do I come up with the songs? How do I
- 22:29Speaker 3: develop songs? Souno, you sent me that song, and I'm
- 22:33Speaker 3: sure I can even say, like give me a you know,
- 22:36Speaker 3: because there's like one specific song that I know that
- 22:38Speaker 3: will work well with the MC hammer song. I know
- 22:41Speaker 3: I can get it to prompt me to sound make
- 22:43Speaker 3: it sound something like that. And I'm conflicted because I
- 22:47Speaker 3: don't want to use AI, but I know I can
- 22:50Speaker 3: do it with AI, and I think I could do
- 22:52Speaker 3: it well. So but how will the community react if
- 22:56Speaker 3: I do something with AI?
- 22:58Speaker 2: Right?
- 22:58Speaker 3: Because the community gave me community? The gaming world is
- 23:01Speaker 3: very much against using the I for stuff. Yea, they are,
- 23:04Speaker 3: but content creators are not, well.
- 23:06Speaker 2: I think.
- 23:07Speaker 1: So there's there's that medium. If you just throw slop,
- 23:12Speaker 1: just throw it at people, they just I'm done with it, right,
- 23:16Speaker 1: But if it's enough, if if it's a mixture of
- 23:18Speaker 1: your your art or your your music with that all combined,
- 23:24Speaker 1: I mean, there's no difference in me going out. It's
- 23:26Speaker 1: spending one hundred dollars on a bundle of music that
- 23:28Speaker 1: I can use for six months than doing something like this.
- 23:31Speaker 3: It's just it's just not right, and it's the uncanny valley.
- 23:38Speaker 2: It's so hard to identify where that is anymore.
- 23:40Speaker 3: I mean, you feel you you can, right, and it's
- 23:44Speaker 3: it's now becoming an ethical thing where it's like you,
- 23:47Speaker 3: if you don't tell somebody you made it with AI,
- 23:49Speaker 3: you're that's just all that's just awful, right.
- 23:51Speaker 2: You have to say this is created with AI.
- 23:54Speaker 3: You can't go into a project or something that you're
- 23:57Speaker 3: claiming is your own and saying I made this and
- 24:00Speaker 3: not telling you, not telling people it's made to the I,
- 24:02Speaker 3: because that's just disingenuous, right, that's bad. It's unethical. A
- 24:06Speaker 3: human element that says this is something.
- 24:08Speaker 2: That you created.
- 24:09Speaker 3: This adds value to you as a person. And if
- 24:11Speaker 3: you're claiming that you made this, you put all the
- 24:13Speaker 3: effort into it and it comes turns around that it's
- 24:15Speaker 3: AI and you just typed in her prompt that that
- 24:17Speaker 3: doesn't sit well with me.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Yeah. There was a picture earlier this week, as a
- 24:20Speaker 1: matter of fact, just before the show, before we recorded
- 24:23Speaker 1: the show, I pulled up and it was a photo
- 24:25Speaker 1: of a downed pilot after last weekend, and this down pilot.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Female pilot was shot down by friendly fire in Kuwait,
- 24:34Speaker 1: and it was three of the villagers that people that
- 24:37Speaker 1: lived in this village her that she parachuted down and landed,
- 24:40Speaker 1: that were helping her. And it was a very warm
- 24:43Speaker 1: photo and I looked at it and I thought, Wow,
- 24:46Speaker 1: that's great. But now I can't look at a photo
- 24:49Speaker 1: and say, wait, is that AI? But that created? Because
- 24:52Speaker 1: he can't tell. You can't tell exactly.
- 24:54Speaker 3: And if somebody doesn't tell you, it's on you to
- 24:57Speaker 3: look it up. I'm just so tired of having to go, hmm,
- 25:01Speaker 3: is this A or not. I'm just avoiding reading a
- 25:04Speaker 3: lot of stuff right now. I'm sure I get served
- 25:06Speaker 3: AI content all the time that I think is real.
- 25:08Speaker 3: If I'm just scrolling through quickly, they're doing it, and
- 25:10Speaker 3: you can and you can tell, like on YouTube shorts,
- 25:13Speaker 3: you can tell winnsday a, I generated a voice, skip,
- 25:15Speaker 3: thumbed down whatever. But you just don't know anymore. And
- 25:18Speaker 3: it's easy for a copywriter an editorial staff to just
- 25:22Speaker 3: rely on chatchipe to clean up there, to clean it
- 25:25Speaker 3: up a little bit, to polish it a little bit.
- 25:27Speaker 3: And now you're getting AI mixed in with news that is.
- 25:30Speaker 2: It's just a weird ethical place and I don't know
- 25:33Speaker 2: how to feel about it.
- 25:34Speaker 1: We got to take a break, but when we come back,
- 25:36Speaker 1: we do have a listener question and I know you
- 25:38Speaker 1: are the person, Sean to answer it, so we'll do
- 25:42Speaker 1: that when we come back with tech talk Radio. I'm
- 25:44Speaker 1: Andy Taylor, I'm Seanda Weird.
- 25:46Speaker 3: Find us on the web at tech talk radio dot com.
- 25:48Speaker 2: We'll bear back now back to tech talk Radio.
- 25:51Speaker 1: I'm really enjoying listening to it show.
- 25:53Speaker 3: It's really cool, well informative.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Rookie.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I'm really like the rook So I wanted to redeem
- 26:03Speaker 1: myself since we were talking about AI and photoshop and
- 26:07Speaker 1: all that, I did something. Now I think that does
- 26:10Speaker 1: tell me, Sean, does this make it okay? So? I
- 26:13Speaker 1: had a picture of Gloria after we had met Ozzy
- 26:17Speaker 1: Osbourne years ago two thousand and I want to say two.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Maybe it was And it was a great photo and
- 26:25Speaker 1: she's like with her back to me, and she's got
- 26:28Speaker 1: a shirt on it and has Ozzy on the shirt,
- 26:31Speaker 1: and her glasses are kind of down so you could
- 26:33Speaker 1: see her eyes right. It was taken with a film
- 26:38Speaker 1: camera and it was taken in our bedroom, which had
- 26:42Speaker 1: beige walls. You could see the vertical blinds in the
- 26:45Speaker 1: back and I thought, ah, this picture. I like the picture.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Gloria looks great, but it's still me. So I put
- 26:52Speaker 1: it into Gemini and I said, can you clean this
- 26:55Speaker 1: up for me? And it gave me, Oh, that looks
- 26:58Speaker 1: a lot better. And I said, hey, can you fix
- 27:01Speaker 1: the background? And I put in what the prompts were?
- 27:04Speaker 1: You know, this was after meeting Ozzy Osbourne. You know
- 27:09Speaker 1: it's music oriented and you know if you can enhance it,
- 27:16Speaker 1: and it gave a new background to the picture and
- 27:19Speaker 1: it looked really good, right. I shout it to the
- 27:21Speaker 1: Gloria and she's like, it's good, except I have green eyes.
- 27:24Speaker 1: So I did the prompt green eyes because you can
- 27:28Speaker 1: see her eyes and I don't know what it was saked,
- 27:31Speaker 1: but it made her serpent green eyes. They'll like take
- 27:34Speaker 1: it over all. It's like, oh, this is not gonna fly.
- 27:38Speaker 1: So I ended up going and I I used AI
- 27:44Speaker 1: for the information. I opened up Photoshop and I asked,
- 27:48Speaker 1: I said, you know, I asked me. I said, hey,
- 27:51Speaker 1: how do I change the color of an eyeball in
- 27:54Speaker 1: a photo that I have? And it talked me through
- 27:58Speaker 1: it to go in and create a separate layer. Go
- 28:01Speaker 1: in and highlight what you want to change, Go and
- 28:03Speaker 1: create a separate layer, and then adjust the coloring in
- 28:06Speaker 1: that layer came out perfect, So he was able to
- 28:09Speaker 1: use Photoshop and AI to get it done. Is that
- 28:13Speaker 1: make it okay if you adjust it using Photoshop or
- 28:17Speaker 1: is it still oh so? No?
- 28:18Speaker 3: So right, So there's a difference between just prompting AI
- 28:22Speaker 3: and then shilling the result.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 28:26Speaker 3: But if you're using AI as a tool, which it
- 28:29Speaker 3: is to ask for help and learn how to do
- 28:34Speaker 3: a skill, that's different.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:37Speaker 3: Now, yes, you are using photoshop to adjust. Photoshop has
- 28:41Speaker 3: been around for a long time. People have been manipulating
- 28:44Speaker 3: photos with Photoshop for a very very long time. So
- 28:47Speaker 3: people are very very.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Good at it.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't That to me is a little bit
- 28:53Speaker 3: less of a gray area than using just AI to
- 28:55Speaker 3: do it. Yeah, but it's still photo manipulation, right, It's
- 29:00Speaker 3: still not real.
- 29:02Speaker 2: It's still so. I have a pretty.
- 29:06Speaker 3: Long standing self rule with my photography. I've never okay,
- 29:11Speaker 3: I can't say no. I very rarely will use Photoshop
- 29:15Speaker 3: or anything to do any editing in my photos. Really
- 29:19Speaker 3: only post production I do on ninety nine percent of
- 29:22Speaker 3: my photos is in light room, and it's basic functions
- 29:26Speaker 3: brightest contrast, color balance, you know, some sharpening, things like that.
- 29:29Speaker 3: I'm very awful at photoshop. I've tried my hand at it.
- 29:33Speaker 3: I'm not good at it, so my photos would not
- 29:35Speaker 3: benefit from that. But I just don't do anything outside
- 29:39Speaker 3: of what I can do in lightroom. Yeah, okay, that
- 29:41Speaker 3: might include some AI noise reduction, but I'm not doing
- 29:44Speaker 3: any addition. I'm not doing any retraction. It's just those
- 29:47Speaker 3: basic functions.
- 29:48Speaker 2: For me.
- 29:49Speaker 3: That's something that I'm hard stuck on that. I just
- 29:52Speaker 3: don't do eye color changes. I don't do blemish removal.
- 29:55Speaker 3: I don't do any of that. It doesn't serve me
- 29:58Speaker 3: a purpose.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Well, the New Life you can do multiple blemish changes
- 30:01Speaker 1: across several individuals.
- 30:04Speaker 3: At what point am I almost forced into using AI
- 30:07Speaker 3: in this stuff?
- 30:08Speaker 2: Right?
- 30:08Speaker 3: It's I don't want to. I'm holding onto Lightroom Classic
- 30:11Speaker 3: because it doesn't bring in some of those features and
- 30:13Speaker 3: functions that I don't want. I don't need the subscription model.
- 30:16Speaker 3: You get those, you're tied into them. It's so hard
- 30:20Speaker 3: to pay for a subscription for a lot of the
- 30:21Speaker 3: content you don't use, but you have no options. Yeah,
- 30:25Speaker 3: I can't buy a copylight room anymore. I have to
- 30:27Speaker 3: subscribe to it.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Now we have the old version. Yeah, now they.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Show it to you as Oh, well, you get the
- 30:32Speaker 3: most up to date features, you get, the updates you get,
- 30:35Speaker 3: the upgrades you get. Well, I don't want that stuff.
- 30:38Speaker 3: I want this version that I know that I've worked
- 30:40Speaker 3: on for, you know, for so long. It's just it's
- 30:42Speaker 3: we're in such a weird place with technology.
- 30:45Speaker 2: All right, let's get retired.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Let's get to our question. This is from Bill and
- 30:51Speaker 1: Selwodita all right says, hey, guys, saw your segment on
- 30:55Speaker 1: Fox eleven and found your show. Well that's good, so
- 30:58Speaker 1: I enjoy it, but wonder I would like to get
- 31:00Speaker 1: a home security camera. So he was obviously watching when
- 31:03Speaker 1: we were doing our segment about the Google doorbell camera
- 31:07Speaker 1: and garafit. But he says, your segment went by pretty fast.
- 31:11Speaker 1: What are some products I should look at? And as
- 31:14Speaker 1: Google as bad as it sounds, and you know, with
- 31:19Speaker 1: the Nancy Guthrie case, Google did get a lot of
- 31:22Speaker 1: people saying, wait, that's a worthless camera. If you have
- 31:26Speaker 1: a Google Nest doorbell, it can serve as a way
- 31:28Speaker 1: to answer your door, and that's kind of what we
- 31:30Speaker 1: were talking about the segment. So if you were in
- 31:33Speaker 1: the backyard or even away from your home, you can
- 31:36Speaker 1: answer the door without a subscription. You don't have to
- 31:39Speaker 1: have a subscription for that. It will store three hours
- 31:42Speaker 1: of that video content, so you can go back and
- 31:45Speaker 1: look and say, wait, who came by my house at
- 31:49Speaker 1: one in the morning, or who came and delivered earlier today,
- 31:54Speaker 1: or was the dog outside in the front yard. That
- 31:57Speaker 1: that will do. However, there's no SD card in that
- 32:02Speaker 1: Google device. As a matter of fact, I have the
- 32:04Speaker 1: Google Nest, another security camera. There's no SD card in it,
- 32:08Speaker 1: so I have to pay a subscription per year, which
- 32:11Speaker 1: I believe is sixty maybe eighty five bucks something like that.
- 32:15Speaker 1: But quality is good, so they aren't really as bad
- 32:20Speaker 1: as it sounds. It's just in this particular case we
- 32:22Speaker 1: heard a lot about Google Nest doorbell no capture. They
- 32:26Speaker 1: had to scrub through the video to find what they
- 32:29Speaker 1: were able to find so far, and there's probably more
- 32:31Speaker 1: that they're discovering, but they aren't. It's you should not
- 32:35Speaker 1: not look at Google, but there are other options.
- 32:38Speaker 3: It all depends on what you want to pay for
- 32:41Speaker 3: what features you want. Yeah, right, I'm a big Wise proponent.
- 32:45Speaker 3: I think their cameras are great. Why I wyze.
- 32:50Speaker 2: I think you can get a lot out of just
- 32:52Speaker 2: the Camplus subscription. To be honest, I don't know what
- 32:55Speaker 2: the current subscription models are. I've been tied into.
- 33:00Speaker 3: I have the unlimited Camplus plan, which means I can
- 33:02Speaker 3: get Camplus for an unlimited number of cameras on my account,
- 33:06Speaker 3: and it's ninety nine dollars a year a year, okay
- 33:09Speaker 3: a year. So every year I charge to get charged
- 33:11Speaker 3: ninety nine bucks for the Camp Plus across every camera
- 33:14Speaker 3: that I own, and I think I have twelve.
- 33:16Speaker 1: Wow, because I know with the sixty I pay, it
- 33:19Speaker 1: just covers the doorbell, another room that we have, and
- 33:24Speaker 1: then of course the main nest camp. Yeah that's and
- 33:27Speaker 1: the more cameras you have, the more you will pay
- 33:29Speaker 1: with Google. So the Wise plan that's actually pretty good. Yeah,
- 33:33Speaker 1: you add a camera and they won't add more money
- 33:36Speaker 1: to it.
- 33:36Speaker 2: No, it's unlimited.
- 33:37Speaker 3: I have an unlimited I can just keep adding Camplus
- 33:39Speaker 3: if as long as I have the camera. I have
- 33:41Speaker 3: to add the camera in the serial number and all
- 33:43Speaker 3: stuff and that served me. Well, Right, I've got the
- 33:47Speaker 3: doorbell camera, I've got a camera on the farm of house.
- 33:49Speaker 3: I've got a camera on the back of my house.
- 33:51Speaker 3: I've got a camera upstairs. I've got I think i
- 33:54Speaker 3: have six cameras on right now, and I've got other
- 33:57Speaker 3: ones that I can put in places that I just
- 33:59Speaker 3: I have more cameras that I really need. But I've
- 34:01Speaker 3: also upgraded from you know, the version twos to the
- 34:03Speaker 3: version threes to the version fours, and so I have
- 34:06Speaker 3: some of those older ones that are sitting around not
- 34:08Speaker 3: doing much, but they can run RTSP, so I can
- 34:12Speaker 3: bring them in without even going to the cloud if
- 34:14Speaker 3: I want to. Some of the old older cameras, you
- 34:18Speaker 3: can run some custom firmware on them.
- 34:20Speaker 1: They do have SD right, you said that they have.
- 34:22Speaker 2: SD cards in them. Yeah, so you can record locally.
- 34:24Speaker 3: So any event that's recorded is recorded locally and is
- 34:28Speaker 3: viewable in the cloud, which is great. And it uses
- 34:30Speaker 3: some of their AI features like package detection, vehicle detection,
- 34:33Speaker 3: person detection, that kind of thing. And I've had a
- 34:37Speaker 3: really great experience with Wise. The occasional outage for service
- 34:41Speaker 3: or maintenance or whatever.
- 34:43Speaker 2: They did have a.
- 34:43Speaker 3: Couple of security concerns over the years that I've granted
- 34:47Speaker 3: that's just a nature of doing business in the cloud,
- 34:50Speaker 3: a nature of doing an Internet.
- 34:52Speaker 2: Of things business.
- 34:53Speaker 3: Yeah, the expectation is that something is going to happen
- 34:56Speaker 3: with your data, and that's a terrible thing to say.
- 34:59Speaker 3: The US not have good consumer protection laws against stuff
- 35:02Speaker 3: happening in the cloud, and we're just not great at it.
- 35:06Speaker 2: That's a whole another conversation, no time.
- 35:08Speaker 3: But every business has your data stored and they're supposed
- 35:12Speaker 3: to do securely following the rules. Something happens, it gets leaked,
- 35:15Speaker 3: it gets why is this had a couple instances of
- 35:17Speaker 3: that very early on. I've had a great experience with them.
- 35:21Speaker 3: I don't feel that the data that's available on for
- 35:25Speaker 3: them from me is not a concern.
- 35:27Speaker 1: How about the quality of the camera, because that's the
- 35:30Speaker 1: other thing too, you want to be able to see.
- 35:33Speaker 2: Now.
- 35:33Speaker 1: Real Link has gotten some great, great reviews about some
- 35:37Speaker 1: of their products. The cameras are a little more expensive.
- 35:40Speaker 1: I don't know if there is as much as some
- 35:42Speaker 1: of the Google Nest devices, but I have one really
- 35:46Speaker 1: camera and I remember the quality on it is very good.
- 35:49Speaker 1: How about wise as.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Yeah, don't I don't think I would go below.
- 35:53Speaker 3: The force like the four or the you know, the
- 35:56Speaker 3: four pros. You saw some pretty significant quality increases up
- 36:00Speaker 3: to the four. I think they do two and a
- 36:02Speaker 3: half K. The newest ones might even do four K.
- 36:07Speaker 3: You know, the V ones, the V twos, the V threes.
- 36:10Speaker 2: You're not gonna get your money's worth out of those anymore.
- 36:12Speaker 1: They even sell from what I understand, wise has the
- 36:16Speaker 1: They have the camera system. It's two lights. It can
- 36:19Speaker 1: go over your garage, so it's high enough the I
- 36:22Speaker 1: mean unless somebody's bringing a camera I mean a ladder
- 36:24Speaker 1: with them. But they go over your garage. And then
- 36:27Speaker 1: there's a camera that's mounted and it can be turned
- 36:30Speaker 1: so you could see, hey, what's going on over by
- 36:32Speaker 1: our front door or over towards the back of the house.
- 36:34Speaker 1: You could turn that.
- 36:36Speaker 3: I mean with the doorbell camera, which I've had since
- 36:38Speaker 3: twenty nineteen, I think twenty twenty. Even I can see
- 36:43Speaker 3: and read a license plate in a car parked be
- 36:47Speaker 3: a driveway, which is probably twenty five feet away.
- 36:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:51Speaker 3: Now, we had an instance where some people broke into
- 36:56Speaker 3: cars in our neighborhood.
- 36:57Speaker 2: Yeah, this was maybe two years ago.
- 37:00Speaker 3: And you know the car came down our road, turned
- 37:03Speaker 3: out their lights as they were driving, and then it
- 37:05Speaker 3: happened to park in front of our house and peruse
- 37:10Speaker 3: the neighborhood and break into some cars.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Wow.
- 37:13Speaker 3: And I was able to provide that footage. And it
- 37:17Speaker 3: was relatively difficult to make out the make and model
- 37:21Speaker 3: of the car. It was nighttime, so the quality was lower.
- 37:25Speaker 3: The car was moving as it went by, so it
- 37:28Speaker 3: was kind of hard to tell. But you know, I
- 37:30Speaker 3: was able to go, well, I think it's a pt cruiser.
- 37:33Speaker 3: I don't know if that's what a car was, but
- 37:35Speaker 3: that's what it looked like. But so you're not gonna
- 37:37Speaker 3: be able to you know. But that's why that was
- 37:39Speaker 3: sixty five seventy feet away or more. And but you
- 37:43Speaker 3: could tell there were five or six people that got
- 37:44Speaker 3: out of the car and they walked.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Around the neighborhood.
- 37:47Speaker 3: You could watch them as they walked and stuff, and
- 37:49Speaker 3: other people caught them on their doorbell cameras and stuff too.
- 37:52Speaker 3: But as far as like quality of somebody come up
- 37:56Speaker 3: and ringing the doorbell, I can immediately tell who it is. Yeah,
- 38:00Speaker 3: I can see who it is. I can see it's Amazon,
- 38:01Speaker 3: I can see waldy is good enough for me. I
- 38:04Speaker 3: I it's you know, your miles may vary, but.
- 38:07Speaker 1: Not to stick with the theme here too. But a
- 38:09Speaker 1: lot of the companies are selling it as AI face detection,
- 38:12Speaker 1: so it will tell you who's at the door.
- 38:15Speaker 2: I think it's just using their cloud.
- 38:17Speaker 3: AIS was a buzzword for a long time early on
- 38:20Speaker 3: is right, So AI in the cloud, Well, it's just
- 38:22Speaker 3: using the cloud. It's it's using just some generic face
- 38:26Speaker 3: detections very software.
- 38:27Speaker 1: That looks like Jim Carrey, but it might be a
- 38:29Speaker 1: guy in a mask if they could be it too.
- 38:32Speaker 1: That's something to think about. So, you know, when it
- 38:35Speaker 1: comes to cameras, definitely wise is one to look at.
- 38:38Speaker 1: They make a doorbell camera? Are they easy to for somebody?
- 38:42Speaker 1: You know listening to this and you know, we want
- 38:44Speaker 1: to do this. My neighbor keeps telling me I want
- 38:46Speaker 1: to do it. I told her I'd do it for her.
- 38:48Speaker 1: She buys, buys the device, I'll go ahead and put
- 38:50Speaker 1: it install it for her. Are they easy to install? Very? Yeah?
- 38:54Speaker 3: I mean you have to have decent a decent like
- 38:58Speaker 3: you can't set it to one hundred feet away from
- 39:00Speaker 3: your WiFi router and expected to work right, you've.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Got to be centrally located. Our house is not that big.
- 39:06Speaker 3: The majority of the cameras are sub one hundred feet
- 39:10Speaker 3: from the router. They connect on two point four gig.
- 39:14Speaker 3: We're not in a busy neighborhood, so our WiFi is
- 39:16Speaker 3: not super congested. I've had very minimal problems connecting to
- 39:21Speaker 3: my cameras. It takes a few seconds on the app
- 39:23Speaker 3: to add it. You scan the QR code, it's up
- 39:26Speaker 3: and running, You type in which Wi Fi you want
- 39:28Speaker 3: it to be on, and then you add it to
- 39:30Speaker 3: your devices and you're up and running, and then wherever
- 39:32Speaker 3: you put in your house within reason, it will connect
- 39:36Speaker 3: and work.
- 39:38Speaker 2: The only downside with the whys.
- 39:40Speaker 3: It has been a bummer for me is that it's
- 39:42Speaker 3: cloud connected only. You can still store stuff locally on
- 39:45Speaker 3: the SD card, but if you want to view the
- 39:47Speaker 3: stuff through the app, it has to go through the cloud.
- 39:50Speaker 3: So you have to be pushing content to the cloud
- 39:52Speaker 3: if you want to see it on your phone. I
- 39:55Speaker 3: don't know how many options are out there that don't
- 39:57Speaker 3: do that, where if you're out and about, well, there's
- 40:00Speaker 3: no way for you to get content if you're not
- 40:02Speaker 3: pushing it to the cloud to your device. There's just
- 40:04Speaker 3: no way around that. So unless you're completely isolated and
- 40:08Speaker 3: to an on prem solution. Again against the point of
- 40:12Speaker 3: buying a home security system if you're in a way
- 40:14Speaker 3: and want to be able to see what's happening, So
- 40:16Speaker 3: you have to have some sort of cloud premise for
- 40:19Speaker 3: your your security system. So it's all up to brand preference.
- 40:24Speaker 3: It's all up to just do your research, like find
- 40:26Speaker 3: people that have different different opinions on it than you do,
- 40:30Speaker 3: read the reviews.
- 40:31Speaker 2: Go in and you know it. You got to just
- 40:34Speaker 2: do you to do.
- 40:35Speaker 3: Your due diligence on the stuff that you're concerned about,
- 40:39Speaker 3: and if you're putting it in your house for your
- 40:40Speaker 3: own home security, if you don't do your due diligence
- 40:44Speaker 3: on finding out whether or not this product is safe,
- 40:46Speaker 3: whether or not they've had hacks, or whether or not
- 40:49Speaker 3: you know they're going to steal your data or whatever.
- 40:51Speaker 2: That's on you.
- 40:52Speaker 3: So you got to spend a little bit of time
- 40:54Speaker 3: to do the research and you know you can trust
- 40:56Speaker 3: us if you want. I feel like we're great, trustworthy.
- 40:59Speaker 1: Kind of I will say before we got to take
- 41:02Speaker 1: a break, garafit is the one I looked at and
- 41:04Speaker 1: I showed it on television, but we were kind of
- 41:06Speaker 1: out of time at the end. Garrif. It's interesting because
- 41:09Speaker 1: it goes inside your window. It sticks to your window,
- 41:13Speaker 1: you clean the window, there's no glare. It uses Chroma
- 41:18Speaker 1: Chroma AI, and it enhances from black and white to color.
- 41:23Speaker 1: It's I want to say it's two K, might be
- 41:26Speaker 1: four K, and it has an SD card inside or
- 41:29Speaker 1: you could push it to the cloud and it is inexpensive.
- 41:33Speaker 1: They're about forty bucks. So that's another solution. If you
- 41:36Speaker 1: want to point a camera and it's inside your house outside,
- 41:40Speaker 1: that's something to look at. Got to take that break.
- 41:42Speaker 1: We come back with more of tech talk Radio. I'm
- 41:44Speaker 1: Andy Taylor, I'm sean to wear it.
- 41:46Speaker 2: Find us on Facebook at tech Talkers.
- 41:48Speaker 1: We'll be it back and now back to tech talk Radio.
- 41:53Speaker 2: So we just talked about why is in the last
- 41:54Speaker 2: segment of the Wise Cameras.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Yeah, something that I've used.
- 41:58Speaker 3: And we talked about it again. I say this all
- 42:00Speaker 3: the time. We talked about on the show before the
- 42:03Speaker 3: Wise Smart switch. It's touted as a switch that you
- 42:07Speaker 3: just you take out an existing one hundred and twenty
- 42:10Speaker 3: volte switch, you put this one in in line with
- 42:13Speaker 3: your normal power right, and it creates a smart switch
- 42:18Speaker 3: that you can then tap. You know, you can do
- 42:21Speaker 3: multiple functions single tap, double tap, triple tap, long press.
- 42:25Speaker 2: Et cetera.
- 42:26Speaker 1: And what would you be able to achieve with that?
- 42:28Speaker 3: You can make rules turn this light bulb and turn
- 42:30Speaker 3: that light bulb off, turn the cameras on, turn the
- 42:32Speaker 3: cameras off.
- 42:33Speaker 2: You can do whatever you want. Any rule you can create.
- 42:35Speaker 3: You can assign it to one of these functions. The
- 42:38Speaker 3: problem is it's not convenient because you have to replace
- 42:42Speaker 3: a switch, and then, like you actually have to replace
- 42:45Speaker 3: a switch, you have to physically wire it in. I
- 42:47Speaker 3: thought it was going to be portable, like I could
- 42:49Speaker 3: set it on the shelf or set it on the counter,
- 42:51Speaker 3: or set it on my desk. I now have I
- 42:53Speaker 3: have three of these in my house. None of them
- 42:55Speaker 3: are actually mounted in the wall as a normal switch.
- 42:57Speaker 3: Because I said, you know what, I wonder if I
- 42:59Speaker 3: could make one make one of these work. So I
- 43:02Speaker 3: tore it apart, right, And we've talked about me doing
- 43:04Speaker 3: a segment on this, and I want to do it
- 43:06Speaker 3: now because this is actually a thing.
- 43:07Speaker 2: So I got an email from YS A couple of
- 43:09Speaker 2: days ago, and it.
- 43:09Speaker 3: Said we want you to you will want your feedback
- 43:12Speaker 3: on a beta option that we're thinking about doing.
- 43:15Speaker 2: The Wise click a smart.
- 43:17Speaker 3: Button concept all right, key feature, single press, double press
- 43:21Speaker 3: multi button, works with wise devices, reusable adhesion mounting and
- 43:24Speaker 3: optional mounding plates. Integrates with Alexa, Google Home I F.
- 43:27Speaker 2: T T no wiring required, portable and movable.
- 43:30Speaker 1: Wow.
- 43:30Speaker 2: I made one of those.
- 43:32Speaker 1: Oh you're kidding me?
- 43:33Speaker 2: And now this so I'm holding up the WY switch,
- 43:37Speaker 2: which is the guts of the WY switch right.
- 43:40Speaker 3: All the WHY switch is is one hundred and twenty
- 43:43Speaker 3: volt transformer that drops it to five vaults to power
- 43:45Speaker 3: the logic board. Right, So in the in here, I
- 43:48Speaker 3: just took off the back, I took out the power transformer,
- 43:51Speaker 3: bought a two inch gang box, mounted the guts in there,
- 43:55Speaker 3: mounted the face plate to it, and internally wired on
- 43:59Speaker 3: a USB to the five volt leads. So now I
- 44:02Speaker 3: just use a regular wall phone charger that does five volts,
- 44:07Speaker 3: and I could do things like this, which would be
- 44:10Speaker 3: I can turn on the white lights just by using this.
- 44:13Speaker 3: I can double tap on the switch to make him
- 44:16Speaker 3: blue again. This I can long press turn them all off.
- 44:20Speaker 3: All because I just took a y switch, broke it apart,
- 44:24Speaker 3: took the logic board out off the transformer, put it
- 44:26Speaker 3: in a two inch gang box, used two zip ties
- 44:29Speaker 3: to tie it together with a USB cable that I
- 44:33Speaker 3: chopped up and used the power leads.
- 44:35Speaker 1: For you think Wise was watching you on their Wise can.
- 44:39Speaker 3: I don't know, maybe, but I think we've talked about
- 44:42Speaker 3: this enough on the show.
- 44:44Speaker 2: I'm gonna buy another one of these.
- 44:46Speaker 3: Right and do it. It'll probably It takes me less
- 44:49Speaker 3: than twenty minutes to put it together.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Wow, And you can do it right now.
- 44:53Speaker 3: You don't have to wait for them to come up
- 44:55Speaker 3: with a new product. You could do it with this
- 44:57Speaker 3: everything they talked about in this email. What would you
- 45:00Speaker 3: use it for? Why would you use it? Would you
- 45:02Speaker 3: would you make it portable? Would you want it to
- 45:04Speaker 3: be rechargeable?
- 45:05Speaker 1: Would it right?
- 45:06Speaker 2: You just plugged us in. We use it all the
- 45:08Speaker 2: time upstairs.
- 45:08Speaker 3: For our lights in the main room. The boys can
- 45:11Speaker 3: go over and put to push the BUTTT turns on
- 45:13Speaker 3: both light bulbs in the living room. You double tap
- 45:15Speaker 3: it to dim them to two percent, so at night
- 45:17Speaker 3: time it's not as brighter. In the morning, long press
- 45:20Speaker 3: turns off all the lights on the main floor of
- 45:22Speaker 3: the house. So when it's like, hey, Max, it's time
- 45:24Speaker 3: to go to bed, he goes over long press turns
- 45:27Speaker 3: off all the lights on the main floor right there.
- 45:29Speaker 1: There's other manufacturers who offer this. Roku obviously has that
- 45:33Speaker 1: as well with their smart bulb systems. Google does offer
- 45:38Speaker 1: that we integrated with their Home Assistant. If you've got
- 45:40Speaker 1: that or even you know the Amazon devices, you could
- 45:44Speaker 1: do that as well with theirs. But you're doing it yourself.
- 45:47Speaker 1: I think that makes it even better. Just how much
- 45:50Speaker 1: was it the total project for you? Like to get
- 45:52Speaker 1: it done? Oh?
- 45:53Speaker 3: I mean the gang box is like a dollar fifty
- 45:56Speaker 3: wow zip ties I had later around the house. USB
- 45:59Speaker 3: cable came from some device that I chopped up a
- 46:01Speaker 3: long time ago.
- 46:02Speaker 1: We'll put pictures of that up on our blog blog dot.
- 46:05Speaker 2: I'm just gonna do I'm just gonna buy a new one.
- 46:07Speaker 1: Right and just do it. I got to tell you
- 46:11Speaker 1: about something that happened this week. So Gloria went to
- 46:14Speaker 1: get her earbuds and she had opened it and one
- 46:17Speaker 1: of them was missing and brand new. Well now they're
- 46:21Speaker 1: about a year old, but still it was it was
- 46:24Speaker 1: it was missing. She could find it. We looked in
- 46:26Speaker 1: the truck, we looked, you know, in every single room,
- 46:32Speaker 1: and we we could not locate where this earbud went.
- 46:36Speaker 1: You go to the iPhone app and you could track
- 46:38Speaker 1: it and it says it's here, but it doesn't. We
- 46:41Speaker 1: couldn't hear it. You couldn't hear that. It's supposed to
- 46:44Speaker 1: give off an audible and it wasn't doing that. And
- 46:47Speaker 1: you only have so much time if the battery dies.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Once battery's dead, it's very difficult to track completely, you know.
- 46:54Speaker 1: But so he said, it has to be somewhere here.
- 46:56Speaker 1: I mean to the point where I had to take
- 46:57Speaker 1: out the trash, you know, Monday delivery. I went through
- 47:00Speaker 1: the trash just in case, right, and she ended up
- 47:05Speaker 1: finding it. But before she did, I went online and
- 47:09Speaker 1: I bought this thing from company called JMDHKK. It's the
- 47:14Speaker 1: K nineteen plus RF detector, and I thought, well, maybe
- 47:18Speaker 1: this would work. No, absolutely not does not really do
- 47:22Speaker 1: bluetooth detection. But I did find it to be kind
- 47:25Speaker 1: of cool. If you were somebody that goes to an
- 47:29Speaker 1: Airbnb and you go or you go to a hotel
- 47:33Speaker 1: room or a hotel room or whatever, and you just
- 47:37Speaker 1: wonder is there a camera in here? You can with
- 47:42Speaker 1: this device sniff out a camera. It uses infrared, so
- 47:48Speaker 1: basically you would turn it around and you would push
- 47:51Speaker 1: the infrared button that is on this and it would
- 47:56Speaker 1: light up and then you could start looking for a camera.
- 48:00Speaker 1: You look through a little just freaking out.
- 48:02Speaker 2: It's freaking out your camera. You probably see it, but.
- 48:04Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it's just it turned it on. It also
- 48:07Speaker 1: does audible, so if you're trying to find RF and
- 48:10Speaker 1: you know I can, I'm moving it around and if
- 48:13Speaker 1: I had a magnet in here in the studio, it
- 48:16Speaker 1: might be able to find it. But it can do
- 48:18Speaker 1: and it will give you audible when you get around
- 48:23Speaker 1: something pretty neat sells for about eighty bucks. It comes
- 48:26Speaker 1: with a light wand as well, so if you want
- 48:29Speaker 1: to take this and you could switch it to magnetic
- 48:32Speaker 1: and what it will do is you could scan under
- 48:34Speaker 1: your car and look for a magnet that might be
- 48:38Speaker 1: holding on to a tracker, or if you you want to.
- 48:42Speaker 1: My home is crazy because we've got Wi Fi everywhere,
- 48:45Speaker 1: so it was going nuts. But you know, for somebody
- 48:48Speaker 1: that goes and stays in airbnbs, this can be a
- 48:51Speaker 1: good thing because you look through this and it's lighting
- 48:53Speaker 1: it red. It will pinpoint a an IRIS for you,
- 48:57Speaker 1: so then you know there's a camera over here, whether
- 49:00Speaker 1: it be a nannycam or whatnot. And I don't know.
- 49:03Speaker 1: It's kind of neat and powers via USBC, so thought
- 49:08Speaker 1: i'd share that with you. It didn't help us find
- 49:10Speaker 1: the air the AirPod, but either way, it was kind
- 49:14Speaker 1: of cool to be able to show and I showed
- 49:16Speaker 1: it on TV for one of the segments as well.
- 49:18Speaker 1: But it's anti eas dropping. Has a flashlight in there
- 49:21Speaker 1: you could use as an emergency. But again it's from
- 49:24Speaker 1: JMDHKK the K nineteen plus. All Right, we're gonna take
- 49:29Speaker 1: a break, come back. Something leaked out from Apple. Sean
- 49:33Speaker 1: is going to tell you about that when we come
- 49:35Speaker 1: back with tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Seana Weard.
- 49:38Speaker 3: Send us an X at tech talk Radio when we're back.
- 49:42Speaker 1: And now back to tech talk Radio.
- 49:46Speaker 3: The day before the announcements, Apple was set to release
- 49:49Speaker 3: some stuff on March fourth, new stuff, but the compliance
- 49:55Speaker 3: website the Apple's regulatory website for EU compliance purpose.
- 50:00Speaker 2: This may have outed the MacBook neo.
- 50:05Speaker 1: Oh okay, so how this works? Apple has a product
- 50:08Speaker 1: or any company that comes up with a product they're
- 50:10Speaker 1: going to want to distribute blah blah blah. They have
- 50:13Speaker 1: to submit it to the EU to say this is
- 50:15Speaker 1: what we want to do, this is what it can do.
- 50:18Speaker 3: There's people will find the most creative ways to get
- 50:20Speaker 3: this content right. People are sleuthing all over the internet
- 50:23Speaker 3: trying to find these stalking the SEC website, stalking the
- 50:27Speaker 3: regulatory ever any inkling of a new name and the
- 50:34Speaker 3: lower cost MacBook is it's already been rumored that it's
- 50:36Speaker 3: going to be a lower cost backbook.
- 50:38Speaker 1: Okay, it's rumored to feature.
- 50:40Speaker 3: The iPhone chip, the eighteen pro or the A nineteen
- 50:43Speaker 3: pro rather than the M series chip, so sneaking it
- 50:47Speaker 3: down making it smaller. So but A thirteen it's just
- 50:51Speaker 3: twelve point nine display. And it's also rumored that it's
- 50:55Speaker 3: going to have alternate colors yellow, green, blue, and or pink.
- 51:00Speaker 3: MacBook Neo certainly sounds fun. Maybe getting back into some
- 51:04Speaker 3: of those old retro colors.
- 51:06Speaker 1: Wow.
- 51:06Speaker 3: But yeah, So there should be an event Wednesday, the fourth,
- 51:12Speaker 3: earlier this week, earlier this week, right as the time
- 51:15Speaker 3: of their recording, we didn't know yet.
- 51:16Speaker 2: But you know, do.
- 51:19Speaker 1: You think a low cost, because honestly, you know, my
- 51:23Speaker 1: first computer was was an Apple to E and then
- 51:26Speaker 1: you know, I've dabbled in Mac, but I haven't had
- 51:31Speaker 1: the most recent MacBook an office that I worked at.
- 51:34Speaker 1: In my office, I had one. It was a Mac
- 51:36Speaker 1: computer and it was awesome. But I'm kind of wondering,
- 51:40Speaker 1: do you think a lower cost Mac would get people
- 51:43Speaker 1: who've been Windows based for years to suddenly say maybe
- 51:47Speaker 1: it was time to try Mac.
- 51:49Speaker 3: I really think with the way Windows eleven is going,
- 51:52Speaker 3: with all the AI this coming in and the co
- 51:54Speaker 3: pilot stuff and the now rumored Windows twelve stuff, with
- 51:58Speaker 3: the subscription based modeling, that it's gonna include AI features woof, right,
- 52:04Speaker 3: I think I think they're targeting a great user base
- 52:07Speaker 3: that maybe doesn't want to be tied to a desktop PC.
- 52:09Speaker 3: For one, desktop PCs and Windows pecs are going to
- 52:12Speaker 3: be prohibitively be more expensive because of the cost of
- 52:15Speaker 3: the chips and the RAM and everything. I think if
- 52:19Speaker 3: Apple does this one thing, it's going to sell insanely
- 52:23Speaker 3: well if they make this chip work, because all the
- 52:28Speaker 3: sides are leading to it, right they using the mobile chip, yeah,
- 52:32Speaker 3: making it a cellular based MacBook.
- 52:35Speaker 2: Ooh think about it, right, The iPad with cellular data
- 52:39Speaker 2: sold insanely well.
- 52:41Speaker 3: If you make a thirteen inch MacBook that can fit
- 52:44Speaker 3: literally inside somebody's purse, if you have a purse bag,
- 52:48Speaker 3: small bag, backpack, et cetera.
- 52:51Speaker 2: And you could do some light four K editing, some
- 52:56Speaker 2: ten ADP editing, photo editing on.
- 52:58Speaker 3: The fly Sydneka shop and not be on their Wi
- 53:02Speaker 3: Fi right and have your own cell phone connection, self
- 53:05Speaker 3: cellular connection.
- 53:06Speaker 2: I think that would be huge.
- 53:08Speaker 1: We'll have to talk more about it next week because
- 53:10Speaker 1: we're out of time, but we'll happily hopefully have all
- 53:13Speaker 1: the info. But price wise, they've said something.
- 53:17Speaker 2: Five ninety nine to seven ninety nine.
- 53:19Speaker 1: Ooh, it's cross.
- 53:20Speaker 2: Our figure is pretty good, but we don't know any
- 53:22Speaker 2: other specs.
- 53:23Speaker 1: So all right, so tune in next week. We'll have
- 53:26Speaker 1: more info for you. Also next week AI journaling with
- 53:31Speaker 1: Rosebud something that may be a little different. If you
- 53:34Speaker 1: want a journal this could be a good thing. And
- 53:36Speaker 1: we'll have a guest on talk one of the co
- 53:38Speaker 1: founders about Rosebud about what they can do. That's next
- 53:41Speaker 1: week on tech Talk Radio. In the meantime, have yourselves
- 53:44Speaker 1: a great week. Thoughts going out to Justin. I'm Andy Taylor,
- 53:47Speaker 1: I'm shan to Weird.
- 53:48Speaker 3: Give us a like and subscribe on any podcasting platform
- 53:51Speaker 3: that we're on, Spreaker, Spotify, Apple Music, you name it,
