- 0:07Speaker 1: This mediated podcast. Welcome to media to Trivial, the only
- 0:11Speaker 1: game show where conservation always wins. I mean your host,
- 0:14Speaker 1: Spencer new or Than. Today we're joined by Janice cal Mark, Brody,
- 0:18Speaker 1: Max Karin, and Hans. You'll notice one name I didn't
- 0:21Speaker 1: mention there, and that's Steve Brunella. This is a Steve
- 0:25Speaker 1: Liss episode. Yeah, I walked the clap, but I like
- 0:30Speaker 1: my job. I just the fact that we have to
- 0:33Speaker 1: call it out. It was the last time I want
- 0:34Speaker 1: to talk about it is just like the most bizarre,
- 0:37Speaker 1: weird thing to me. It's gonna be half as long
- 0:39Speaker 1: as a normal episode. I'm gonna call it out every episode,
- 0:43Speaker 1: just so Yannest can give us like a vibes check
- 0:45Speaker 1: in the room. Honest, how you feel without having Steve here?
- 0:49Speaker 1: I feel the same as that. What if I have
- 0:51Speaker 1: him here, Well, we're gonna his energy will be missed
- 0:54Speaker 1: in one form or another, whether that's positive or negative.
- 0:58Speaker 1: That's right now, Hans, Max, you've been on the podcast before.
- 1:01Speaker 1: But if folks don't recognize your names, tell them what
- 1:04Speaker 1: you do here meat eater Max. I'm a camera guyan editor. Um.
- 1:09Speaker 1: I work on ducklore go on miscellaneous shoots, do a
- 1:13Speaker 1: lot of cooking stuff. Went on a shoot with the
- 1:15Speaker 1: Honest last spring. Um. But yeah, if I'm not out
- 1:18Speaker 1: in the field sitting in front of the computer making
- 1:21Speaker 1: that story come to life, how is you honest to
- 1:23Speaker 1: work with? You know? How is Max to work with?
- 1:27Speaker 1: He's a dick. That's the same Max that was that
- 1:32Speaker 1: was party to the Kimmy and Shawn's harrowing hunting story
- 1:36Speaker 1: and yes, I was a part of that in New
- 1:39Speaker 1: Mexico or Mexico. We're also joined by Hansi, another waterfowl fella.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Hans He tell folks what you do here. I'm a
- 1:45Speaker 1: video editor, so I do uh like Cow's Weekend Review
- 1:49Speaker 1: and sourced and some of those long form pieces that
- 1:53Speaker 1: you see on YouTube. So I am not in the field.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I'mlike Max. Both fellas do great work. Now, if you're
- 2:00Speaker 1: not familiar Max and Hanzi, this is a ten round
- 2:02Speaker 1: quiz show with questions from our four verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation, cooking.
- 2:07Speaker 1: There is a prize. Media will donate five dollars to
- 2:10Speaker 1: the conservation organization of the winners choosing. Now, last time
- 2:14Speaker 1: we played, we revealed each player's average score per game
- 2:17Speaker 1: if you don't remember. The leaders in the clubhouse are Brodie,
- 2:20Speaker 1: Steven Jannie, who each average roughly six correct answers per game.
- 2:24Speaker 1: But the stat of the week for this episode is
- 2:26Speaker 1: winning scores. The average winning score for trivia is seven
- 2:31Speaker 1: point zero two correct answers per game. The best winning
- 2:35Speaker 1: score we've ever had was Brodie, who once got ten
- 2:37Speaker 1: correct answers, and the worst winning score we've ever had
- 2:40Speaker 1: with Steve, who once got four correct answers. The most
- 2:43Speaker 1: common winning score is eight, which happens about of the time.
- 2:47Speaker 1: So if you want to win media trivia, plan on
- 2:49Speaker 1: getting between seven and eight correct answers. It's a between
- 2:53Speaker 1: seven and eight. You're gonna they're gonna have the right
- 2:57Speaker 1: answer on one, and then you're gonna have one that's acceptable.
- 3:02Speaker 1: It's right. So seven point zero two correct answers per game.
- 3:07Speaker 1: You think you got that in you, Yanni, Yes, you're
- 3:11Speaker 1: nervous because as now, the last time we played, we
- 3:21Speaker 1: had a question about how many species of wildcats are
- 3:23Speaker 1: native to North America. I said the correct answer was six,
- 3:26Speaker 1: which I got from National Geographic but about a dozen
- 3:29Speaker 1: listeners pointed out that there is a little known seventh species.
- 3:33Speaker 1: This is the Margai cat, which is similar in appearance
- 3:36Speaker 1: to the aucelot. They're commonly found in South America and
- 3:38Speaker 1: Central America, and we're even documented one time in Texas
- 3:42Speaker 1: in eighteen fifty two. So the correct answer is seven,
- 3:46Speaker 1: not six, which we will get fixed for the board game.
- 3:49Speaker 1: And I went back and listen to the show and
- 3:50Speaker 1: that answer would not have impacted the outcome of the game.
- 3:55Speaker 1: So seven wildcats in North America. This is usually the
- 3:58Speaker 1: part in the episode where Steve so that you stuck
- 4:00Speaker 1: at your job, right, Spencer. I don't I don't like
- 4:04Speaker 1: getting it wrong like that. But if you can't trust
- 4:05Speaker 1: National Geographic, who can you trust? I don't know. Man
- 4:09Speaker 1: marr cat m r g u a Y something like that.
- 4:14Speaker 1: M A r g a Y. Also, the last time
- 4:18Speaker 1: we played without Stephen Brody, I was explaining to these
- 4:21Speaker 1: guys the vacuum theory that a lot of white tail
- 4:24Speaker 1: hunters talk about. Now Mark filling these folks on the
- 4:27Speaker 1: vacuum theory real quick. So the basic idea here is
- 4:31Speaker 1: that white tail bucks in particular typically have a home
- 4:35Speaker 1: range where they have some type of territorial status. The
- 4:39Speaker 1: average home range size is somewhere around three fifty acres,
- 4:42Speaker 1: give or take. So the idea here is that in
- 4:44Speaker 1: some places they'll be like a big bully buck who
- 4:47Speaker 1: will kind of lay out his territory and scare off
- 4:50Speaker 1: others and keep others out of that general zone. Does
- 4:52Speaker 1: that sound familiar you guys? It all hasn't happened to
- 4:56Speaker 1: me yet. Okay, I know where we're getting at here.
- 4:58Speaker 1: I see where this is going, Spence, keep going, keep going.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I like where your heads that. So the idea here is, though,
- 5:05Speaker 1: once that big bucks killed or disappears for whatever reason,
- 5:09Speaker 1: it creates a vacuum. There's now this open turf, there's
- 5:12Speaker 1: this open great habitat, and other deer will come in
- 5:14Speaker 1: and take that claim that territory. So I imagine if
- 5:18Speaker 1: a vacuum is opened up elsewhere, somebody will claim that
- 5:21Speaker 1: turf to even outside of the wildlife world. Is that where?
- 5:24Speaker 1: So in this scenario with mediator trivia Stephen Brodie, or
- 5:27Speaker 1: the old dominant bucks that died and the honest and
- 5:30Speaker 1: mark and call of the new bucks that rolled in
- 5:32Speaker 1: to take their stuff. And I was explaining that I
- 5:38Speaker 1: was explaining this theory to Brodie before our live show
- 5:42Speaker 1: in May and Brodie's response was this, Well, what happens
- 5:45Speaker 1: when that old buck comes back and kicks everyone's ass?
- 5:49Speaker 1: So we're gonna get a look at the vacu tale
- 5:52Speaker 1: Hunter's self fulfilling prophecies all it is. It's like, so,
- 5:59Speaker 1: so here's an another reason to sit in a tree
- 6:01Speaker 1: all day. That's right. So we're gonna get a look
- 6:04Speaker 1: at the vacuum buck theory today. Well the old gray
- 6:07Speaker 1: bucking Brody take back his stuff, or well one of
- 6:09Speaker 1: the new bucks, like Mark, hold its ground. I'm coming
- 6:13Speaker 1: for you, Brodie. Yeah, I'm mule deer hunter. So it
- 6:16Speaker 1: doesn't really, it's just really doing a masterful job of
- 6:21Speaker 1: adding depth to trivia. Just try to have one simple thing,
- 6:27Speaker 1: but no backstory. Tension, tension. Yeah, and with that we're
- 6:33Speaker 1: on the trivia play the drop, Phil, Look, I need
- 6:37Speaker 1: to know what I stay in the wind. Everything I'm
- 6:41Speaker 1: saying just tend to win everything. Davon Suckers. Question one.
- 6:53Speaker 1: The topic is cooking, and as always, this will be
- 6:56Speaker 1: multiple choice. What type of fish is served in an Arnold?
- 7:01Speaker 1: Bennett omelet? Is it halibit, tuna, haddock or snapper? Again?
- 7:09Speaker 1: What type of fish is served in an Arnold Bennett omelet.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Is it halibit, tuna, haddock, or snapper? You honest, you
- 7:19Speaker 1: ever put fish in your omelets? You know, I don't
- 7:22Speaker 1: make almlets much, but I've thrown some smoked trout in
- 7:26Speaker 1: some scrambled eggs times. We can call that the honest
- 7:29Speaker 1: patelis omelets someday I must seem to be dry, and
- 7:33Speaker 1: I'm not into dry eggs. I like a wet, creamy egg.
- 7:36Speaker 1: You're you're such a butter fan, Like, how how do
- 7:41Speaker 1: you produce a dry omelet? You know, I was criticizing
- 7:45Speaker 1: eggs just get overcome at breakfast one time, because you know,
- 7:47Speaker 1: at the opposite of a dry omelet, it was right
- 7:50Speaker 1: wet one a wet omelet, and so like in kitchen terms,
- 7:54Speaker 1: you're like, yeah, I want that wet. People find that
- 7:56Speaker 1: very unappealing. I've learned. Yeah, see, I would prefer the
- 7:59Speaker 1: wet absolutely again, the Arnold Bennett omelet. It has halibit, tuna, haddock,
- 8:05Speaker 1: or snapper, one of those four fish. I have no idea.
- 8:10Speaker 1: There's everybody just gets it. I'm going off, go ahead
- 8:18Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. We have Mark saying snapper, Max
- 8:22Speaker 1: saying halibut, Brodie sang Halibit, Krin saying haddock, Cal saying snapper,
- 8:27Speaker 1: Hansi saang haddock, and Jana saying snapper. The correct answer
- 8:32Speaker 1: is haddock. Now you're gonna explain who this. Arnold Bennett
- 8:37Speaker 1: guys chefs at the Savoy Grill in England created this
- 8:40Speaker 1: dish for novelist Arnold Bennett in the nineteen twenties. The
- 8:44Speaker 1: omelet is made with fluffy eggs, smoked haddock, hollandaise sauce,
- 8:49Speaker 1: and grated cheese. I was envisioning some like you know,
- 8:54Speaker 1: quote unquote golf athlete in Florida like our No, exactly exactly.
- 9:07Speaker 1: We had a few folks, get it right. We're on
- 9:09Speaker 1: the question to the topic is fishing. Who hosted Animal
- 9:13Speaker 1: Planets TV show River Monsters? Who hosted Animal Planets TV
- 9:21Speaker 1: show River Monsters? You had to lush us head of hair?
- 9:24Speaker 1: I remember that, just sort of like you kept long
- 9:27Speaker 1: and blowing. Yeah, sort of like you could face for
- 9:30Speaker 1: Jim Shocky, I can see his face. But again, who
- 9:36Speaker 1: hosted Animal Planets TV show River Monsters? Again? Does anybody
- 9:40Speaker 1: in the room notice I think we should steer clear
- 9:43Speaker 1: TV shows. You want first and last name, you know
- 9:46Speaker 1: last name is good enough, guest first name. Oh, it
- 9:52Speaker 1: just came to me. I think, oh my god, I'm
- 9:55Speaker 1: humunculus got you, my kids, I think got I mean,
- 10:00Speaker 1: I'm just gonna pay name. You know what. I watched
- 10:03Speaker 1: one episode of that and and they're like, so this
- 10:06Speaker 1: is what it has to be, but instead we're gonna
- 10:08Speaker 1: catch this because we can't figure out how to catch that.
- 10:11Speaker 1: And I was like, well, this show is bullshit. Listen,
- 10:13Speaker 1: their show is it's it's the greatest fishing show ever made.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Here's what I love about it takes it, it breaks
- 10:18Speaker 1: it down for layman um. So in their Jeremy look
- 10:28Speaker 1: your answers, we have Mark saying Jeremy, Max saying, Adam
- 10:32Speaker 1: Brody saying Jeremy Wade, Karen saying I forget Cal saying
- 10:37Speaker 1: Jeremy Wade, Hansi saying Stanley Tucci, and Jana saying Jim
- 10:41Speaker 1: Ship I wasn't gona put Steve Irwind. The correct answer
- 10:45Speaker 1: is Jeremy Wade love it. Are we giving it to
- 10:50Speaker 1: the people? Whatever? Cal? Did you have that before? I
- 10:53Speaker 1: said absolutely not that Cal doesn't get it. The other
- 10:59Speaker 1: folks do, I said his name, Yeah, exactly, And we
- 11:03Speaker 1: don't know. Man, this this might this might be on you.
- 11:06Speaker 1: I think you have to give him the answer. I
- 11:07Speaker 1: mean that I wouldn't be surprised, and I'll just say
- 11:10Speaker 1: it that way. I wouldn't be surprised. Whatever. Good about that?
- 11:13Speaker 1: It's Brody did have it before I had this. Jeremy
- 11:19Speaker 1: doesn't count. Not good enough, So just Brody on that one.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Just you got the second part without any tips. That's true. Yeah,
- 11:27Speaker 1: here's what's great about Jeremy. He was talking about like,
- 11:30Speaker 1: now I want to fish this spot because of the
- 11:32Speaker 1: current actually goes backwards, and it's like, yeah, it's just
- 11:36Speaker 1: like an eddie. But it's like very common for us.
- 11:39Speaker 1: But when he explains it to someone who doesn't know fishing,
- 11:41Speaker 1: it's like, whoa, the current goes backwards. I found that
- 11:45Speaker 1: most people on a river do not. They have a
- 11:48Speaker 1: very hard time with upstream and downstream where the water
- 11:52Speaker 1: comes from versus where it's going. Like, yeah, I don't
- 11:56Speaker 1: get up now. I want to ask Steve if we
- 11:58Speaker 1: could have Jeremy Weight on the podcast, and his answer
- 12:00Speaker 1: was no, that person doesn't interest me. Then I asked why,
- 12:04Speaker 1: and Steve responded by pointing out a lady walking across
- 12:07Speaker 1: the street and said, I don't know that lady doesn't
- 12:09Speaker 1: interest me either? Should we have her on the show?
- 12:11Speaker 1: And I've never brought it up since? That's good? So
- 12:16Speaker 1: do I get that point? You do not? Why is
- 12:18Speaker 1: that because I gave the answer? No, you gave a
- 12:21Speaker 1: part of a word of the answer. Get the full
- 12:24Speaker 1: name now, I just I just want to know, because
- 12:27Speaker 1: that is essentially just like anybody else being like oh
- 12:30Speaker 1: and saying something and then you know, then there's this
- 12:32Speaker 1: big argument Steve loses a ship and blah blah blah.
- 12:36Speaker 1: I think you should give Cal the answer unless he
- 12:38Speaker 1: beats me by one question. My vote is to give
- 12:41Speaker 1: it to Brody and Cow because we would give it
- 12:44Speaker 1: to Brody and Cow. Yeah. Well if you give it
- 12:46Speaker 1: to Kelly, you gotta give it to Mark then because
- 12:48Speaker 1: Mark just Jeremy, which which Sencer said, but I question
- 12:54Speaker 1: through the topic is haunting. This next great question is
- 12:57Speaker 1: from Steven Ronella. If you have a question you think
- 12:59Speaker 1: is right for meata to trivia, you can send it
- 13:01Speaker 1: to trivia at the meat eat dot com. This state
- 13:05Speaker 1: has a sheep named after it that's created by crossing
- 13:08Speaker 1: a moufl on. You and ramble a ram. What is
- 13:11Speaker 1: it again? This this state has a sheep named after
- 13:17Speaker 1: it that's created by crossing a moufla on you and
- 13:21Speaker 1: ramble a ram. What is it looking for the state?
- 13:26Speaker 1: This is one of the United States you're looking for?
- 13:30Speaker 1: This state has a sheep named after that's created by
- 13:32Speaker 1: crossing a moufl on you and ramble a ram. What
- 13:35Speaker 1: is it? Pretty stumped room, but Jannie had a quick answer.
- 13:42Speaker 1: How are you feeling, Janni? I'm feeling all right about it.
- 13:47Speaker 1: It's still a guess though. One more time. This state
- 13:49Speaker 1: has a sheep named after it that's created by crossing
- 13:52Speaker 1: a mouffl on you and ramble a ram. Does everybody
- 13:54Speaker 1: have an answer? I want more time work for you
- 14:00Speaker 1: last time? Are you going to say the answer this time? Well,
- 14:04Speaker 1: you just challenge Spencer as to why it's not good
- 14:07Speaker 1: and then her I can't believe that happened, slipping get ahold.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Does everybody of an answer? Brody, go ahead and reveal
- 14:21Speaker 1: your answers. We have Mark saying Nevada, Max sang Alaska,
- 14:25Speaker 1: Brodie saying Hawaii, Krin saying Nebraska. Col without an answer,
- 14:30Speaker 1: couldn't come up with the state. Hans he saying Washington
- 14:33Speaker 1: and Janice saying Texas. Somebody in the room did get
- 14:37Speaker 1: it right. The correct answer is Texas. It is the
- 14:41Speaker 1: Texas stall sheep. Now, these animals were bred just for
- 14:45Speaker 1: hunting purposes, but it's now popular to raise them for
- 14:48Speaker 1: their meat and past your clearing abilities. You don't need
- 14:51Speaker 1: to tag to kill one in Texas, but outfitters do
- 14:54Speaker 1: charge anywhere from one thousand dollars to five thousand dollars
- 14:57Speaker 1: to hunt them. Texas the state home to the barnyards. Slam,
- 15:01Speaker 1: Did you know that? Um? I couldn't have told you
- 15:05Speaker 1: that it was the Texas doll sheet, but I had
- 15:07Speaker 1: heard Steve sometimes gets on people if he sees a
- 15:11Speaker 1: picture of them with one of these sheep, and so
- 15:14Speaker 1: I had remembered that it happens in Texas. Bus I
- 15:16Speaker 1: mean where else? What other states do a bunch of
- 15:19Speaker 1: crossing of animals? Why? Question for the topic is trapping.
- 15:28Speaker 1: What is the largest land dwelling member of the weasel family? Again,
- 15:35Speaker 1: what is the largest land dwelling member of the weasel family? Oh,
- 15:45Speaker 1: a quick answer from Mark and Max what constitutes land dwelling?
- 15:51Speaker 1: A land dwelling member of the weasel family like more time.
- 15:57Speaker 1: This is the the definition you'll find in any dictionary,
- 16:02Speaker 1: any wildlife source. This is their terminology. The largest land
- 16:07Speaker 1: dwelling member of the weasel family. See an argument, your weasel.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answered? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 16:18Speaker 1: We have Mark say, Max saying Marmott, Brody's saying wolverine,
- 16:24Speaker 1: Crane saying badger, Kyl saying wolverine, Hans saying pine, Martin,
- 16:28Speaker 1: and Jana saying fisher. The correct answer is wolverine. I's
- 16:35Speaker 1: just trying to think of weasels. Come on, does that
- 16:38Speaker 1: mean there's an otter that's bigger than wolverine a weasel? Oh,
- 16:45Speaker 1: you're just trying to think of any weasel. Although no,
- 16:51Speaker 1: I did. Although wolverinees go up to fifty five pounds,
- 16:58Speaker 1: they aren't even the biggest member of the weasel family.
- 17:00Speaker 1: That distinction goes to the sea otter, which can grow
- 17:03Speaker 1: up to ninety pounds. The smallest weasel is the least weasel,
- 17:07Speaker 1: which weighs less than an ounce. So Brody knew it
- 17:10Speaker 1: all there, even the even the fact question five. We'll
- 17:14Speaker 1: get a scoreboard update after this from Phil. The topic
- 17:17Speaker 1: is fishing. This next great question comes to us from
- 17:20Speaker 1: Lee Nelson. If you have a question you think is
- 17:22Speaker 1: right for meat Eat to trivia, you can send it
- 17:23Speaker 1: to Trivia at the meat eat dot com. There are
- 17:27Speaker 1: five types of salmon found in the Great Lakes. Named
- 17:30Speaker 1: two of them. There are five types of salmon found
- 17:37Speaker 1: in the Great Lakes. I want you to name two
- 17:39Speaker 1: of them. It seems like a confident room except for
- 17:47Speaker 1: cal and he probably knows this because he growing up
- 17:52Speaker 1: right on the Great Lakes. Maybe put a lot of
- 17:54Speaker 1: confidence in me there. We have a lot of Great
- 17:56Speaker 1: Great Lakes folks in the growing up in Michigan in
- 17:59Speaker 1: the UH late eighties, early nineties, Like I knew there
- 18:03Speaker 1: was salmon, but it seemed like every time we went
- 18:05Speaker 1: to the fish hatch tree, all they talked about where
- 18:07Speaker 1: those lamp rays. That's all I remembers from a kid.
- 18:10Speaker 1: There would just be lampreys stuck to every fish that
- 18:12Speaker 1: was swimming around a great lake. Yeah, they like to
- 18:15Speaker 1: eat those salmon. Does everybody of an answer again? Looking
- 18:18Speaker 1: for two of the salmon found in the Great Lakes? Ye?
- 18:22Speaker 1: Down two words two answers, put down all or nothing?
- 18:29Speaker 1: One point question. What happens if you put down all five.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Then then you get it wrong. Cranny got an answer. Answer,
- 18:38Speaker 1: go ahead and reveal it. We have Mark saying chinook
- 18:41Speaker 1: and King, Max saying king and Chinook, Brody saying co
- 18:46Speaker 1: ho and Chinook, Karen saying king and Chinook, Cal saying
- 18:50Speaker 1: chinook and cocone e, Hansi saying pink and Atlantic, Yana
- 18:55Speaker 1: saying king, and what's the other one? He wrote coho?
- 19:00Speaker 1: The correct answers are chinook, co hoo, pink Atlantic, and
- 19:05Speaker 1: cocon e. A lot of kings in this room didn't
- 19:08Speaker 1: get it right. Now say those again. We have a chinook,
- 19:12Speaker 1: a co hoo, pink Atlantic, and cocon e. Is King
- 19:15Speaker 1: a name for one of those? I'm gonna do that thing.
- 19:23Speaker 1: I didn't mark anyone who wrote came with halfway through
- 19:27Speaker 1: the game, a trivia hit us with a scoreboard update.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Phil sure thing in last place, but first place in spirit.
- 19:35Speaker 1: We have Max I thought we were playing golf, zero
- 19:38Speaker 1: place and then coming up tied for third place. We
- 19:43Speaker 1: have Karin and Mark with one point. Tied for second
- 19:46Speaker 1: place are Janice and Hansi with two, and then tied
- 19:49Speaker 1: for first place Brodie Henderson, Henderson and Ryan Callahan with three. Oh.
- 19:55Speaker 1: We got a game. I don't think you should get
- 19:57Speaker 1: Jeremy Wade right right. The question six. The topic is conservation.
- 20:12Speaker 1: The algon Quin wolf got its new name in what
- 20:16Speaker 1: was it known as before that? The Algonquin wolf got
- 20:22Speaker 1: its new name in what was it known as before that?
- 20:28Speaker 1: So it's currently known as the Algonquin wolf. I'm looking
- 20:31Speaker 1: for its old name. How are you feeling, cal Uh,
- 20:39Speaker 1: I'm split between two answers. One of them are really okay,
- 20:44Speaker 1: right down to your other. One crossed out so we
- 20:47Speaker 1: can we can see, so I don't feel like it's
- 20:50Speaker 1: like overly tricky. Does everybody have an answer? Go ahead
- 20:56Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. We have Mark saying the timberwolf,
- 21:00Speaker 1: Max saying the Mexican wolf, Brody saying the red wolf,
- 21:04Speaker 1: Karin saying the blue wolf, saying the red wolf, HANSI
- 21:08Speaker 1: sang the Adirondack wolf, and Jana saying the red wolf.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Nobody got it right. The correct answer, which Cal crossed out,
- 21:17Speaker 1: is Eastern wolf. It used to be thought that the
- 21:22Speaker 1: Algonquin wolf was a subspecies of gray wolf, but recent
- 21:26Speaker 1: genetic testing has shown that they're actually more closely related
- 21:30Speaker 1: to the red wolf. The algonquin wolf got its name
- 21:33Speaker 1: change six years ago and has been reclassified on the
- 21:36Speaker 1: Endangered Species list as a threatened instead of species of
- 21:40Speaker 1: special concern. Nobody got it right. We're on the question seven.
- 21:45Speaker 1: This is our listener question of the week, which was
- 21:47Speaker 1: won by Warren White Knight for sending in this great question.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Warren is going to get an orange meat eater hunting
- 21:53Speaker 1: vest that was signed by everyone in the room. If
- 21:55Speaker 1: you want a chance to win the listener Question of
- 21:57Speaker 1: the Week and send your question to Trivia uh at
- 22:00Speaker 1: the mediator dot com. There are five states that have
- 22:05Speaker 1: less than ten percent forest cover. Name one of them.
- 22:11Speaker 1: There are five states that have less than ten percent
- 22:15Speaker 1: forest cover. Name one of them. M M, So we're
- 22:21Speaker 1: looking for the five least forested states in America, but
- 22:26Speaker 1: you just have to name one. I'm pretty confident in
- 22:31Speaker 1: some quick answers in the room. Janice just starting to
- 22:34Speaker 1: write cow, just starting to write Does everybody have an answer? Yes,
- 22:42Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Marks saying Iowa,
- 22:45Speaker 1: Max saying Oklahoma, Brody saying Kansas, Karn saying Nevada, Cal
- 22:49Speaker 1: saying Nebraska, Hans saying Rhode Island in Janice saying Kansas.
- 22:54Speaker 1: The correct answers are North Dakota, Nebraska, South Dakota, Kansas,
- 22:59Speaker 1: and Iowa. Room did pretty well. Do you need to
- 23:03Speaker 1: know who got right? I think I got the room
- 23:07Speaker 1: did fairly well, fairly well, and Karin crossed out the
- 23:11Speaker 1: right answer to write. Nevada Dakota is the least forested
- 23:17Speaker 1: state in America, with just two percent of its ground
- 23:19Speaker 1: covered in trees. That's followed by Nebraska three percent, South
- 23:22Speaker 1: Dakota at four percent, Kansas at five percent, in Iowa
- 23:26Speaker 1: at eight two percent. You know what they say about
- 23:31Speaker 1: North Dakota. Their state tree is the power line. You
- 23:35Speaker 1: want to hear another joke about Northcoat, Yes, I do.
- 23:37Speaker 1: I love them They Lena Joe in Minnesota. For every
- 23:44Speaker 1: tree there's a good looking girl behind it in North Dakota.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Can you a follow up a little info for the
- 23:53Speaker 1: next Sorry, that means that there's not very many trees,
- 23:56Speaker 1: so there's not married and many good looking girls that kill.
- 24:01Speaker 1: But I'd like to know if that's natural causes, Like,
- 24:04Speaker 1: is that natural or is that because of genetics? Abatat
- 24:09Speaker 1: law students say farming and we can look at it.
- 24:12Speaker 1: I would guess that's natural. I would imagine if even
- 24:14Speaker 1: if North Dakota put its mind to it, it's not
- 24:17Speaker 1: going to get above ten forest cover, So they're all grasslands.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Farm Now, interesting point would be that if you were
- 24:26Speaker 1: to I think this is right, if you were to
- 24:28Speaker 1: judge what state has the most of its landscape converted
- 24:31Speaker 1: from it naturally? Was Iowa's the number one? Something like
- 24:35Speaker 1: the state has been converted from its natural habitat. WHOA,
- 24:38Speaker 1: that's a great fact. Why the white tails like it?
- 24:41Speaker 1: There's so much I love corn beans? Question. We're gonna
- 24:44Speaker 1: score board update after this. The topic is hunting. What
- 24:48Speaker 1: was former Vice President Dick Cheney hunting when he shot
- 24:52Speaker 1: Harry Whittington? Oh? What was former Vice President Dick Cheney
- 24:59Speaker 1: hunt sing Democrats when he shot Harry Whittington? Now, Phil,
- 25:10Speaker 1: if you were playing this round, how do you think
- 25:11Speaker 1: you'd be doing? Oh? Oh, I knew the answer to
- 25:14Speaker 1: this to this one, but I mean, like I was
- 25:16Speaker 1: lost for most of those. I don't think I would
- 25:18Speaker 1: have gotten anything before the Uh she got I think
- 25:27Speaker 1: three on this one, so the Shelby index would say
- 25:30Speaker 1: the winner of this round she gets six, which were
- 25:33Speaker 1: on pace for them. Does everybody have an answer again,
- 25:36Speaker 1: what was Dick Cheney hunting when he shot Harry Whittington.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Mark saying grouse,
- 25:42Speaker 1: Max saying pheasants, Brodie saying quail, Crin saying pheasants, Cal
- 25:47Speaker 1: saying quail, Hansi saying doves, and Janice saying quail. The
- 25:52Speaker 1: correct answer is quailed. Oh my goodness, it happened in
- 25:56Speaker 1: two thousand six in Texas. Cheney shot Whittington with a
- 26:00Speaker 1: twenty eight gauge as Whittington retrieved a down bird behind him.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Whittington was hit in the face, neck and chest, and
- 26:07Speaker 1: later suffered a heart attack because of a baby lodged
- 26:10Speaker 1: in his chest. But the most amazing part of this
- 26:12Speaker 1: story is that after all that, Whittington actually apologized to Cheney,
- 26:17Speaker 1: saying he was deeply sorry for everything the vice president
- 26:20Speaker 1: had to deal with and that he hoped he'll continue
- 26:22Speaker 1: to go to Texas to seek relaxation he deserves. He's
- 26:27Speaker 1: quite a sportsman with the old twenty eight gauge. That
- 26:30Speaker 1: is fun to hear about that. Uh, that feels like
- 26:33Speaker 1: some European like fox hunting stuff in Texas. Wail was
- 26:38Speaker 1: on like a deep debate between the twenty eight and
- 26:40Speaker 1: four tan with in like the heart of quail country,
- 26:43Speaker 1: which which is bigger? The twenty eight four tens supposed
- 26:47Speaker 1: to have more skill, so the four ten is smaller
- 26:50Speaker 1: than twenty eight gauge less efficient, you'd say, um, but
- 26:55Speaker 1: there's so when you're at your the pinnacle of your
- 26:57Speaker 1: quail hunting career, you're how with a four tan and
- 27:02Speaker 1: then uh, I've been told that that gun has to
- 27:07Speaker 1: be retired due to the crippling rate. Once your responses
- 27:12Speaker 1: start to slow a little bit, and then you progress
- 27:15Speaker 1: on to and twenty. But there's a lot of folks
- 27:21Speaker 1: who the hubrisk gets them, and they're they're packing around
- 27:24Speaker 1: a gun that they haven't earned. So Cheney should have
- 27:26Speaker 1: went down to a twenty game. I don't know. Man
- 27:29Speaker 1: could have been a lot quicker than he looked. Phil
- 27:32Speaker 1: the scoreboard update. We have two questions left. That's right.
- 27:36Speaker 1: The only players left in the game now are Janice
- 27:40Speaker 1: who has four points and Calan Brody who have five apiece.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Two questions left. I can't get skunked. I'm still going
- 27:49Speaker 1: to answer these two. Everyone keep playing. Hold on, you're
- 27:52Speaker 1: still at zero max. Yeah, question nine. The topic is conservation.
- 27:58Speaker 1: This is a visual question. If you want to play
- 28:00Speaker 1: along and see what the room is seeing, they go
- 28:02Speaker 1: to Instagram and check out at Spence to new Arth.
- 28:04Speaker 1: I'll make it my most recent post. Back in February,
- 28:09Speaker 1: I declared the Missouri Department of Conservation as the greatest
- 28:13Speaker 1: game agency logo in America. Then, coincidentally, one month later,
- 28:18Speaker 1: a state changed their logo to take them from having
- 28:21Speaker 1: one of the worst logos in America to having one
- 28:23Speaker 1: of the best. I'm now going to show you this
- 28:25Speaker 1: state's old logo and new logo, and you need to
- 28:29Speaker 1: tell me what state it belongs to. Again, you're looking
- 28:34Speaker 1: at the old logo and new logo of this state.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Who changed it one month after I declared Missouri is
- 28:41Speaker 1: having the best one in the country. Are you implying
- 28:44Speaker 1: that you might have had a you know, you might
- 28:48Speaker 1: have inspired them to change their logo. You know, I
- 28:50Speaker 1: felt that for a minute, but then I read into
- 28:52Speaker 1: a little more and realized I started the process than before.
- 28:55Speaker 1: This is a DNR logo. Yes, not a fishing game.
- 29:02Speaker 1: It's a fishing game, d n R Wildlife Department, whatever
- 29:05Speaker 1: you wanted to be. It is a state Game Agency logo. Marcus,
- 29:08Speaker 1: what are you doing on your phone? I took I
- 29:10Speaker 1: took a picture of it, so I keep studying it.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Everybody search everybody else is looking at picture. I'm just
- 29:16Speaker 1: looking at pictures. Every else looking over there? Us studying
- 29:24Speaker 1: got me stuck. Mark, share that with me. He's trying
- 29:27Speaker 1: to look for like a little Luminati symbols. Well, I
- 29:32Speaker 1: of course scrubbed the state of its of its name
- 29:35Speaker 1: on there, so you're not going to find the state name.
- 29:37Speaker 1: It just just sitting too young. Brody is thinking real
- 29:40Speaker 1: hard over there. I'm trying to figure out what kind
- 29:43Speaker 1: of bird that is. There's a hant it has. A
- 29:46Speaker 1: bird doesn't have to be a game bird. It's definitely
- 29:52Speaker 1: not a game bird. It's one of the states that
- 29:54Speaker 1: has white tails in it. That's a big one. Did
- 30:00Speaker 1: body know this when they saw it? No? Mm hmm.
- 30:05Speaker 1: This could be a chance for that three and a
- 30:07Speaker 1: half year old come walking in this room right now,
- 30:14Speaker 1: push some of the old bucks out. I think all
- 30:16Speaker 1: the three and a half yearlds already out of the
- 30:18Speaker 1: game according to the scoreboard. Yeah, where do I fall in?
- 30:24Speaker 1: You're in the old You're you're one of the new
- 30:26Speaker 1: old Bucks. That room, Yeah, the young old Bucks. Brody
- 30:32Speaker 1: is an old old buck. You're a new old buck.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? Did you draw it over
- 30:42Speaker 1: there first? For what each state means to me? Now again,
- 30:53Speaker 1: if you want to play along, go to Instagram check
- 30:55Speaker 1: out at Spencer North. You will see these logos there.
- 30:59Speaker 1: I feel this entire question is just a gimmick to
- 31:02Speaker 1: up your Instagram. Absolutely answers. We have Mark saying South Dakota,
- 31:08Speaker 1: Max saying Ohio, Brody saying Minnesota, Corin saying New Mexico,
- 31:12Speaker 1: Cal saying Mississippi, Hadzi saying Indiana, and Yanna saying Oklahoma. Answers.
- 31:18Speaker 1: We do have a correct answer. Different answers It is Oklahoma.
- 31:24Speaker 1: Janice got it now, jannest what was it about it
- 31:27Speaker 1: that made you think Oklahoma? Uh, bushs prairies? And now
- 31:34Speaker 1: I couldn't. I couldn't. That's why I put in Minnesota.
- 31:40Speaker 1: The rebrand cost the agency nine dollars to have the
- 31:45Speaker 1: logo made and one hundred thousand dollars to replace the
- 31:48Speaker 1: old logo on signs and uniforms. The new logo is
- 31:52Speaker 1: in the shape of an arrowhead to represent the state's
- 31:54Speaker 1: Native American heritage and features a white tail buck, a
- 31:57Speaker 1: white bass which is the state fit, and a scissor
- 32:01Speaker 1: tailed flycatcher. The state bird just hired our art director
- 32:05Speaker 1: Hunter Spence. They should have or like have a contest
- 32:09Speaker 1: for high schoolers. They could, They could achieve that same thing.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Can you imagine taking a hundred nine thousand bucks and
- 32:14Speaker 1: putting it towards habitat? Yeah, I might rather have a
- 32:16Speaker 1: sweet sign now taking that extra five thousand for yourself.
- 32:20Speaker 1: That decision that Cal made. It was funny you guys
- 32:28Speaker 1: were calling out the bird because there was actually some
- 32:30Speaker 1: controversy there. People didn't like that they put a non
- 32:33Speaker 1: game bird on the logo because most folks associate the
- 32:37Speaker 1: department with just managing fish and game. But it was
- 32:40Speaker 1: very intentional saying that we don't just manage hunters and anglers.
- 32:43Speaker 1: So that's why the scissor tailed flycatcher made it on there.
- 32:46Speaker 1: It is now, I would say a phenomenal logo. Yep,
- 32:50Speaker 1: I agree. That's a good, good angle. We're onto question ten.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Hit us with a scoreboard update. Phil. It's all tied
- 32:57Speaker 1: up with Janice, Brody and Cow having five points apiece.
- 33:01Speaker 1: So it's the old old versus the Old New New
- 33:05Speaker 1: Old question to on the topic is fishing. This next
- 33:09Speaker 1: great question is from Jared Bailey. If you have a
- 33:11Speaker 1: question you think is right for Meat Eat Trivia, you
- 33:13Speaker 1: can send it to Trivia at the meat Eator dot com.
- 33:17Speaker 1: This crustacean is named after America's longest natural sand spit,
- 33:22Speaker 1: which is located on the northern edge of Washington's Olympic Peninsula.
- 33:30Speaker 1: This crustacean is named after America's longest natural sand spit,
- 33:36Speaker 1: which is located on the northern edge of Washington's Olympic Peninsula.
- 33:43Speaker 1: So we're looking for the name fishing. Yeah, station for crabs, lobster,
- 33:53Speaker 1: a crawdad a crab. Maybe you'd still like but it's
- 33:59Speaker 1: stilling her. Oh yeah, you do. Still go lobster fishing,
- 34:03Speaker 1: Still go crayfish fishing. Still go shrimp fishing. I don't
- 34:08Speaker 1: even have a guess. No, I don't love him, Max,
- 34:14Speaker 1: How do you not have a guess? We just named
- 34:16Speaker 1: a bunch of stuff. This crustation is named after America's
- 34:19Speaker 1: longest natural sandspit, which is located on the northern edge
- 34:23Speaker 1: of Washington's Olympic Peninsula. You're honest, how you feeling about this.
- 34:29Speaker 1: You have the quickest answer. I think I don't even
- 34:32Speaker 1: know if what I wrote down as a crustacean Brodie,
- 34:35Speaker 1: how are you feeling? Horrible? I think this is a
- 34:37Speaker 1: horrible question. That's not very nice to Jared Bailey, someone
- 34:42Speaker 1: who took time out of their day to write this
- 34:45Speaker 1: question to trivia at the meat Eat dot Com. I
- 34:47Speaker 1: think I apologize that person. It's very good question, Cal,
- 34:50Speaker 1: how are you feeling? I picked an answer. I'm going
- 34:53Speaker 1: with it. Okay, does everybody have an answer? Yes? Krian,
- 35:03Speaker 1: go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Mark saying
- 35:06Speaker 1: the sand crab, Max sang the sandy cheeks. Brodie sang
- 35:10Speaker 1: the dungeness crab, Krim sang without an answer, saying the
- 35:15Speaker 1: Dungeoness crabby, which crossed out Cal saying the Dungeeness crab,
- 35:19Speaker 1: Hans saying the Olympic sand crab, and Jana saying the
- 35:23Speaker 1: razor clam. The correct answer is dungeon is crab. I
- 35:28Speaker 1: love this question, which means we're going to overtime between
- 35:31Speaker 1: Cal and Brody. Now. A sand spit is a beach
- 35:35Speaker 1: land form off the mainland that usually develops where a
- 35:38Speaker 1: coast changes directions The Dungeoness Spit in Washington is about
- 35:43Speaker 1: five miles long and grows at about fifteen feet per year.
- 35:47Speaker 1: It's a popular destination for hikers and campers in the
- 35:50Speaker 1: Pacific Northwest. So what is the scoreboard? Update? Phil, we
- 35:54Speaker 1: are going to overtime? It is six six with Brodie
- 35:57Speaker 1: and Cow going to the tiebreaker. Great, God, don't make
- 36:04Speaker 1: any sense at all. The first your last, you can
- 36:06Speaker 1: be second, you can be third. Four? Hell you five?
- 36:12Speaker 1: Not broodyanized first tiebreaker? It's like your third. You went
- 36:17Speaker 1: to tiebreaker in the first. Every game we played now
- 36:21Speaker 1: the tiebreaker. So no math on this one. Math got
- 36:23Speaker 1: me on the first one. The tiebreaker is a numerical question,
- 36:26Speaker 1: so whoever is closest to the correct answer will be
- 36:30Speaker 1: declared the winner. The last known passenger pigeon died at
- 36:35Speaker 1: the Cincinnati Zoo in what year? The last known passenger
- 36:42Speaker 1: pigeon died at the Cincinnati Zoo in what year? Should
- 36:47Speaker 1: be should be a gimme for a couple of old
- 36:49Speaker 1: conservationists like these two. So are you giving them? Whoever's closest,
- 36:53Speaker 1: Whoever is closest will be declared the winner. Get the
- 36:59Speaker 1: typic conservation The last known passenger pigeon died at the
- 37:03Speaker 1: Cincinnati Zoo in what year? That bird had a name,
- 37:09Speaker 1: didn't it? Yeah, we already had that as one of
- 37:11Speaker 1: the cal How are you feeling? I mean, I think
- 37:16Speaker 1: we're both going to be in the Ballpark's gonna be
- 37:18Speaker 1: who's going to be closest? You both got an answer.
- 37:21Speaker 1: I got an answer. Brodi's crossing years off right now.
- 37:26Speaker 1: It's like two thousand twenty two right now, Brodie, you
- 37:33Speaker 1: got an answer. Answers, we have Cal saying and Brodie
- 37:39Speaker 1: saying nineteen o five. One of you is nine years off,
- 37:45Speaker 1: and the winner is Brody. The correct answer was nineteen fourteen,
- 37:51Speaker 1: stuck a little longer. Well done. It's so funny. I
- 37:56Speaker 1: was I was gonna put down nineteen o five too.
- 37:59Speaker 1: That was about I would not have felt good about
- 38:01Speaker 1: if Cal one because I gave the German wage to
- 38:03Speaker 1: answer away. So I'm pleased. I was. I was. I'm
- 38:06Speaker 1: in indifferent party here, but I was rooting for Brod.
- 38:08Speaker 1: You know, conservation wins either way. Speaking of Brody, you
- 38:14Speaker 1: now get to pick where the five dollar donation goes.
- 38:17Speaker 1: So what's it gonna be? You know how some people
- 38:20Speaker 1: like to say hunters only put money into conservation so
- 38:23Speaker 1: they have more animals to kill. Who says that, Well,
- 38:26Speaker 1: it's still like a thing here now, Well, it's kind
- 38:29Speaker 1: of like why the Oklahoma State bishop Game Agency decided
- 38:33Speaker 1: to Well, right, I really liked Hunt Mule Deer, so
- 38:39Speaker 1: Mule Deer Founder was a good plot twist. So who's
- 38:43Speaker 1: going to the Mule Deer Foundation. We have not donated
- 38:46Speaker 1: them yet. Nope, that's that's why I picked them. Well done, Brodie.
- 38:50Speaker 1: That's it for this game at Trivia, the only game
- 38:52Speaker 1: show where conservation always wins.
