- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Today, one of our football analysts, Roger Neal, and I will be analyzing the four games of the week.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Before we continue, I want to share some good news about my longtime broadcast partner.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: This Saturday, Roger will be inducted into the Binghamton University Sports Hall of Fame for his dedication to covering Binghamton University Athletics for over two decades.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Well deserved, buddy.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: For the second week in a row, all four of our games will be Friday Night Lights games with 7 p.m.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: kickoffs.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: All four games feature division matchups, and five of the eight teams are New York State ranked.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Remember, check with your school for any last-minute schedule updates.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Let's kick off this episode.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Our first game will be the Class C homecoming Showdown.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: The three and one Susquehanna Valley Sabres, ranked 24th in New York State, led by Coach Ford, will be visiting the undefeated and fifth ranked Waverly Wolverines, led by Coach Miller.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: And that game will be at Memorial Stadium in Waverly.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Hit it, Roger.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: This should be a great game, perhaps the showcase game of the weekend.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: SV 3-1 overall, one and one in Division 4.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: Waverly unbeaten on a roll again.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: And they were victorious against Oleana last week, 35 to 6.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: So even though a little smaller schools class C, the competition at C is outstanding.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: And this has the makings of what could be, again, one of the premier regular season games this year coming up.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: SV on the road at Waverly.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: And hey, Waverly's tough anywhere, but certainly at home.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: Our next game will also be a Class C clash.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Now say that three times fast.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: This is going to be the number two ranked four and one Shenango Forks Blue Devils, led by Coach Hogan.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: And they're going to make the long road trip to Shenango Valley to take on the Windless Warriors, led by first-year coach Tom.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Now, this is technically a rivalry game, and some may argue that, given the Warriors haven't beat Shenango Forks in more than two and a half decades.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: When you share a geographical border and the first part of your school's name, regardless of the history, this is a rivalry game.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: Ask any of the players, coaches, or family members.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Let me know what they have to say.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Roger, what do you say about this?
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: You can, it's one of those kind of games.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: Any records, just throw them out.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: Once that kickoff starts to get the game, doesn't matter.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: And of course, Forks, you have to look at them as heavily favored, a record of four and one.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: The only loss they've had was to the high-powered main Enwell Spartans.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: But last weekend they came up with a victory.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: Uh, and that was over uh Susquehanna Valley.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: They were up 33 points going into the fourth quarter, ended up with a big win there.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: And of course, C V has been struggling.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: Uh, another new head coach this year, and they're winless.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: They fell to Newark Valley last week, 29-0.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: But again, take the records, toss them away.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: Battles galore in this game, and it should be an outstanding one.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: We'll see if C V can finally get on the winning side of things.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: But boy, I'll tell you what, that Shenango Forks team, after that first loss, they're on a roll again, playing like they usually do, which is awfully tough to beat.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's that's gonna be a good game.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: That's one of those games where I say the minute you step out of the locker room, you better have your helmet on, buckled up, mouthpiece in, and your cleats and double knots.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Our third game will be a Class B contest.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: This is the four and four and zero Maine Animal Spartans, ranked number one in New York State, led by Coach Gallagher, are gonna travel to take on the one and four Owego Indians led by Coach Verkler at a recently renovated Christy J.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Vavol Memorial Stadium.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: What do you think about this game, Roger?
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: Well, I guess the big question has to uh pop up immediately.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Can anybody slow down the high-flying Maine Anwell Spartans?
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: They have so many weapons.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: Not only can they play good defense, they beat Windsor last week 35 to 7, but the weapons offensively with that double wing formation, the option running of Policer and Company, they are extremely difficult to hold down.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: You have to play superb defense to stay in the game.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: The question is, Owe go one and four, can they do that?
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: They've got a big playmaker in their own right in Stephen Bidwell, 33 carries last time out 134 yards.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: So that'll be a big factor for Maine Enwell to try to stop him.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: The question is, can Awego come up with anybody else to augment that offense?
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: And again, can they hold Maine Enwell down?
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: I won't say off the scoreboard, but at least down to keep themselves in the game.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: That should be a good one that it's on the road for the Spartans at Owego.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: Our fourth and final game is a Class D contest.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: The one and three Sydney Warriors, led by Coach Matthews, take the long road trip to Haggerty Field to take on five and zero and number one ranked Tioga Tigers, led by Coach Ayalo.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: What do you think, Roger?
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: Well, you know, these programs we have seen now midway through the season, the cream rising to the top.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: Just take a look at the different divisions and classifications, and you're seeing teams like Forks, like Maine Enwell, and of course, also uh in Class D, Tyoga unbeaten, 5-0, top ranked in D competition around New York State.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: And last week they thrashed Walton 54 to 14, a team that was undefeated and ranked number nine in Class D.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: So that should be a big message to anybody that plays them going forward.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: And of course, Sydney has been struggling one and four, and no easy couple of games for them because not only do they play Tyoga this week, but they'll match up against Walton next week.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: So it's a big game.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: Tyoga, again, superb, and no weak links for them.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: So we'll see what they can do in action coming up.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: It they look awfully strong one more time this year.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: Well, that wraps up the four games of the week for week five of section four football.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Roger.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: My pleasure.
