- 0:08Speaker 1: Hello, welcome to Inside the Tape with Greg Cosell on
- 0:12Speaker 1: Inside the Birds. I'm Jeff Mosher with Adam Kaplan, and
- 0:14Speaker 1: of course we have Greg Coseell. It's the final Inside
- 0:18Speaker 1: the Tape of the regular season. Of course we'll have
- 0:21Speaker 1: Inside the Tape in the postseason for as long as
- 0:23Speaker 1: the Eagles are alive. We've already gone through Tanner McKee
- 0:27Speaker 1: in the season finale against the Commanders, and we wanted
- 0:29Speaker 1: to just straight look ahead now and get into a
- 0:33Speaker 1: little bit of an early preview on the Niners versus
- 0:36Speaker 1: the Eagles. So Greg, we'll show a little footage of
- 0:40Speaker 1: what the Niners are offensively. We'll probably talk more about
- 0:43Speaker 1: their defensive issues in the pregame show.
- 0:45Speaker 2: But what are your initial thoughts on this matchup?
- 0:49Speaker 3: Well, I think the Niners at their core still are
- 0:51Speaker 3: a run based team. I think everything works off their run.
- 0:55Speaker 3: I think they use motion as effectively as any team
- 0:58Speaker 3: in the league. They started doing something with motion this
- 1:01Speaker 3: year that I can't recall them doing in the past,
- 1:03Speaker 3: where they kind of line us check up as kind
- 1:05Speaker 3: of a tilted wing and motions into the backfield. And
- 1:09Speaker 3: they do that a lot, and they do probably ten
- 1:11Speaker 3: different things off of it. So I'm sure vic Fanjoe
- 1:14Speaker 3: will have you know, in his mind and answer for that,
- 1:17Speaker 3: because you know, look, there's multiple ways to deal with motion.
- 1:22Speaker 3: You can respond to it, you can be static, you know,
- 1:24Speaker 3: you can do a lot of different things. But the
- 1:26Speaker 3: Niners are a motion offense, and obviously McCaffrey is the
- 1:31Speaker 3: guy that they use in multiple ways, both as a
- 1:34Speaker 3: runner and I think he's the toughest runner in the
- 1:38Speaker 3: league in terms of getting hard yards. Their on line
- 1:41Speaker 3: has not been great this year blocking in the run game. Obviously.
- 1:45Speaker 3: We just saw that against a great defense in Seattle,
- 1:49Speaker 3: a really good defense with a terrific front, but really
- 1:52Speaker 3: good at all three levels, and you know, they just
- 1:56Speaker 3: couldn't get them moved at all, and the game kind
- 1:59Speaker 3: of got out of control in terms of pacing tempo,
- 2:02Speaker 3: you know, because the Niners are a pace in tempo offense,
- 2:06Speaker 3: they need to be able to control the ball because
- 2:09Speaker 3: when they're at their best in the passing game, it's
- 2:12Speaker 3: the big plays come from run after catch, not from
- 2:15Speaker 3: vertical throws. They're not really a vertical passing team. Yeah, Pernie,
- 2:20Speaker 3: that's not going to be his strength. And by the way,
- 2:22Speaker 3: rookie Pierce Saw I understand aggravated an injury. Whether he's
- 2:25Speaker 3: sold or not, he's their best receiver to win one
- 2:29Speaker 3: on one. But if he can't go, they don't really
- 2:31Speaker 3: have that guy.
- 2:32Speaker 1: It's amazing how well they've done offensively without him for
- 2:35Speaker 1: a lot of the year, without rock Perty for a
- 2:37Speaker 1: lot of the year, and without Brandon Ayuk at all.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I mean all year long. They've been kind of They've listened.
- 2:43Speaker 1: They've leaned heavily on McCaffrey, right, they've leaned on Kittle,
- 2:47Speaker 1: but even he's been heard at times of the year.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Juwan Johnson, I don't know, Adam, how do they do it?
- 2:52Speaker 1: It's like smoking mirrors.
- 2:55Speaker 4: The matchup, the scheme in design is fantastic and I
- 2:58Speaker 4: love that. I think you should have maybe a couple
- 3:00Speaker 4: of weeks ago on the show, the visual of use
- 3:04Speaker 4: check of this very unique motion.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Yes, yes, and he's using it to block.
- 3:08Speaker 2: It's just Jeff.
- 3:09Speaker 4: If you look at it, you would think he was
- 3:11Speaker 4: a receiver. Yeah, he just gets a running start and
- 3:14Speaker 4: get levels of guy. I'm like, this is I'm not seen.
- 3:16Speaker 3: And they do so many thing and by the way,
- 3:19Speaker 3: they play the highest percentage of twenty one personnel of
- 3:22Speaker 3: any team in the league over thirty six percent of
- 3:24Speaker 3: their offensive snap, even more than Baltimore. Huh okay, oh yeah,
- 3:28Speaker 3: twice as much as Baltimore. Okay, So you know used
- 3:31Speaker 3: check is a critical factor in what they do. So
- 3:35Speaker 3: you know, the question becomes, look, the Eagles, what's the
- 3:39Speaker 3: balance here between playing Nickel with Degene you know, inside
- 3:44Speaker 3: basically versus playing five to two that's going to be
- 3:49Speaker 3: I don't know the answer to that. You know the
- 3:50Speaker 3: Eagles will have an answer for it in their mind,
- 3:53Speaker 3: But what's the balance? You know? Yeah, they will they
- 3:55Speaker 3: play true nickel and then keep Degene as an inside player,
- 3:59Speaker 3: he's a very good undefender, or will they play bass
- 4:03Speaker 3: and have him on the outside opposite Mitchell.
- 4:05Speaker 2: That's true for the most part.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I feel like Vic has counteracted twenty one personnel and
- 4:11Speaker 1: twelve personnel with base. But there have been sometimes this year,
- 4:15Speaker 1: depending on the matchup, maybe against the Rams, where he
- 4:18Speaker 1: wasn't afraid to go nickel because he knows they're going
- 4:21Speaker 1: to try to pass. Out of those big formations, well.
- 4:23Speaker 3: The forty nine ers and the Dolphins are the most
- 4:25Speaker 3: intriguing twenty one personnel offenses in the league because of
- 4:29Speaker 3: the multiple things they can do from it. You know,
- 4:32Speaker 3: don't forget the player who's in twenty one personnel for
- 4:35Speaker 3: the Ravens is not a factor as an offensive weapon,
- 4:38Speaker 3: whereas certainly used check is even if he's not an
- 4:43Speaker 3: ingold is too for Miami, even though they are not
- 4:45Speaker 3: numbers producers, they are weapons the way they're deployed. Picard
- 4:50Speaker 3: is not Recard is not a weapon.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Now wait a minute, Greg, he caught a pass in
- 4:54Speaker 1: the fourth corner of the other night.
- 4:57Speaker 2: It was funny. The broadcasters went crazy over it.
- 5:00Speaker 3: But you know what I mean, I don't know what
- 5:01Speaker 3: I'm saying.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, absolutely, they have a They struggle to stop
- 5:07Speaker 1: the run the Niners. Now, Adam, you detail this on
- 5:11Speaker 1: our postgame show. They're down to what lightbacker number five
- 5:13Speaker 1: and six.
- 5:15Speaker 3: It's yeah, well that's the thing. I'm sorry, I forgot.
- 5:18Speaker 4: They have at least four guys hurt and obviously not
- 5:20Speaker 4: having Fred Warner. I guess there's a chance he could
- 5:22Speaker 4: come back for the championship game, which is an outside shot.
- 5:25Speaker 4: But yeah, they've got problems. It's it's it's a shame.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Because now the tune's done for the year.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Gront surgery even Luke, is it Gifford got hurt.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Yeah, he only played one snap. Yeah, yeah, he got hurt. Yeah,
- 5:41Speaker 3: but what the winter status do we know yet? De
- 5:44Speaker 3: Winters also got hurt. He's got an echo injury. So it's.
- 5:51Speaker 4: Brown a rib injury. Gifford, Yeah, he's got a quad
- 5:54Speaker 4: a conterceps injury. That's not good, right, Well, they do.
- 5:57Speaker 3: They do play a good number of snaps of big
- 5:59Speaker 3: knicks with Pinnic the third safety, and they may have
- 6:02Speaker 3: to go that route just because of numbers.
- 6:05Speaker 1: They've gotten decent safety play right out of Mustafa and
- 6:07Speaker 1: Jyra Brown.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Oh yeah, they've played well. I like both those guys.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Yeah, but man, they've given up the corners, Greg, They've
- 6:14Speaker 4: given up They've had several like shaky games.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, you know they're run. Defense overall is
- 6:20Speaker 3: not as bad as you think it was bad the
- 6:22Speaker 3: other night. But if you look at it overall for
- 6:25Speaker 3: the season, it's not. It's not among the worst in
- 6:28Speaker 3: the league, by the way. Right.
- 6:30Speaker 1: The thing about the Niners, and I think this is
- 6:32Speaker 1: still holding true, is that they're that type of team
- 6:36Speaker 1: that if you're up on them going into the fourth
- 6:38Speaker 1: quarter if you have a lead. They're just not built
- 6:41Speaker 1: for coming back.
- 6:42Speaker 2: They can't. They don't want to drop.
- 6:44Speaker 3: Their offense is a PI tempo offense that's schematically based,
- 6:50Speaker 3: not individually based. So if they're behind and they have
- 6:54Speaker 3: to you know, win let's say one on one on
- 6:55Speaker 3: the outside where they have to win or you know,
- 6:58Speaker 3: they have to win that way, that's not who they are.
- 7:01Speaker 3: They're a pace they have to see that. It's funny.
- 7:03Speaker 3: I watched that game live obviously, as I'm sure a
- 7:05Speaker 3: lot of people did, and after the first couple of
- 7:08Speaker 3: series by the Seahawks where they just controlled the football,
- 7:12Speaker 3: I was thinking, this is just not a Niners game,
- 7:15Speaker 3: you know. They they're just the pace and tempo with
- 7:18Speaker 3: a game got away from them too early. You know.
- 7:21Speaker 3: That's because they need to control that, right you know,
- 7:25Speaker 3: And that's that's who they are on offense.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, they're not a team that can be comfortable
- 7:30Speaker 2: being uncomfortable.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Sometimes we can do that that that's really not there
- 7:34Speaker 1: Forte Adam. Don't you think that that would give the
- 7:37Speaker 1: Egles just just a really big advantage defensively, Assuming good
- 7:41Speaker 1: health and Jalen Carter's feeling good, I mean, if they can,
- 7:45Speaker 1: if they could be stout against the Niners run game
- 7:47Speaker 1: and keep them behind the sticks, they have a.
- 7:49Speaker 2: It almost doubles their chances to win.
- 7:51Speaker 3: That they're not a shot play offense like now.
- 7:53Speaker 4: They even the craziness of that game, or Jacoby Perce
- 7:58Speaker 4: won for four to fifty against them, they still were controlled. Man,
- 8:02Speaker 4: it's they're not to throw the ball over the yark
- 8:04Speaker 4: kind of offense. No, it's not what they do, right,
- 8:07Speaker 4: you know? So, Yeah, I agree, I see it the
- 8:09Speaker 4: way Greg does. They're very controlled. You got it. It's
- 8:13Speaker 4: a scheme, super duper scheme based offense.
- 8:16Speaker 3: And when they're doing their thing, they look unstoppable.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I know.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Good. Oh but yeah.
- 8:22Speaker 2: You know.
- 8:23Speaker 1: One thing that's really impressive about them, but again could
- 8:25Speaker 1: work against them when they play the Eagles is if
- 8:28Speaker 1: you look at the number of wins that they've had
- 8:30Speaker 1: by double digits, it's really amazing. I mean, when they
- 8:33Speaker 1: beat the Bears by five in Week seventeen, that was
- 8:36Speaker 1: their first win of less than double digits I think
- 8:40Speaker 1: since September. I mean, look at the scores forty eight
- 8:43Speaker 1: twenty seven of the Colts thirty seven to twenty four
- 8:45Speaker 1: Titans twenty six eight Browns. They beat the Panthers by eleven.
- 8:48Speaker 1: They beat the Cardinals, Adam, you mentioned it by nineteen.
- 8:51Speaker 1: They're just they beat the Giants by ten. They don't
- 8:53Speaker 1: win games by small margins. And that part of it
- 8:57Speaker 1: makes me think that when you're playing in the playoffs
- 9:00Speaker 1: against a good team on the road, that that that
- 9:01Speaker 1: can work against you if like I mean about that
- 9:04Speaker 1: the Niners.
- 9:06Speaker 3: And to your point, Jeff, even if the Niners play well,
- 9:10Speaker 3: they're not going to put up thirty five on the
- 9:12Speaker 3: Eagles at the link. That's not going to happen back right,
- 9:14Speaker 3: they could play really I mean, look to me, if
- 9:17Speaker 3: the Niners play well, they would have to win this
- 9:20Speaker 3: game like twenty four to twenty, you know that kind
- 9:21Speaker 3: of game. They're not. This is not going to be
- 9:23Speaker 3: a thirty eight to thirty five game.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Right. By the way.
- 9:26Speaker 1: A great stat that I heard was their loss against
- 9:29Speaker 1: the Seahawks there in the season finale, the Niners. They
- 9:33Speaker 1: only scored three points. It was the first time the
- 9:37Speaker 1: Niners did not have an offensive touchdown since Kyle Shanahan's
- 9:41Speaker 1: first season.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Coaching the Niners. The only lawyer was his quarterback.
- 9:47Speaker 3: By that they only ran forty two offensive plays. That's
- 9:51Speaker 3: what I mean about Payson tempo.
- 9:52Speaker 2: It sounds like an Eagles game.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Greg, Yeah, enough plays for them, you know the way
- 9:57Speaker 3: they play.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Of course, yeah, of course. Hey, it's Jeff Mosher. Quick
- 10:01Speaker 2: question for you.

- 12:43Speaker 1: All right, let's just take a quick look at you know,
- 12:46Speaker 1: what to expect from the Niners offensively. We'll get into
- 12:48Speaker 1: defense much more in the pregame show. But I put
- 12:52Speaker 1: together a few clips just because of how there you
- 12:55Speaker 1: guys mentioned.
- 12:57Speaker 2: What they do offensively in the run game is so
- 13:00Speaker 2: he did.
- 13:01Speaker 3: If you go back, there's the motion. Go back a
- 13:04Speaker 3: little further. This is you check in the tilted wing. Yes,
- 13:08Speaker 3: and there he is. Now he's going to go in motion?
- 13:10Speaker 2: Did you invent that term? Tilted wing?
- 13:12Speaker 3: Greg? I don't know what else to call it? I
- 13:14Speaker 3: I you know, I mean, I love it. Not the
- 13:16Speaker 3: time of year when I call. I know people on
- 13:18Speaker 3: their staff, but I'm not reaching out now, you know.
- 13:20Speaker 3: So I'm sure they have a name, well not. I'm
- 13:22Speaker 3: sure of course they have a name for it, but
- 13:24Speaker 3: I'm not. I'm not going to reach out now.
- 13:27Speaker 2: I just love it. You trade mark it for the
- 13:28Speaker 2: tilted wing.
- 13:29Speaker 1: And I love the fact that I found a play
- 13:32Speaker 1: right off the bat that had what.
- 13:33Speaker 4: You Hey, there's this crazy motion they're using.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Use check. I saw a Greg show.
- 13:42Speaker 4: I know you were going to get it great?
- 13:43Speaker 2: Yeah, Greg, I didn't go through six games right right?
- 13:47Speaker 3: Right?
- 13:48Speaker 2: So here we go.
- 13:49Speaker 3: I watch them every week because I do radio in
- 13:51Speaker 3: San Francisco, So I've seen every Niners play for the
- 13:54Speaker 3: last fifteen years.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Right, all right, So.
- 13:57Speaker 1: We see you check lined up in that tilt on
- 13:59Speaker 1: the right side, tilt the wing. He's going to go
- 14:00Speaker 1: in motion, and.
- 14:01Speaker 3: Then from here they do a lot of different things.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Right, and then if you see the other tight end
- 14:06Speaker 1: comes across, which.
- 14:07Speaker 3: Is kind of normal split flow, you know. Yeah, so
- 14:10Speaker 3: this ends up being zone lead. This is zone lead,
- 14:15Speaker 3: by the way, decently blocked.
- 14:16Speaker 2: But this is where McCaffrey really specialized. He finds that
- 14:18Speaker 2: cut back an.
- 14:19Speaker 4: That wasn't the one play I was talking about, but
- 14:23Speaker 4: that's block they want, right, spacing was huge space they want,
- 14:28Speaker 4: but it ended.
- 14:28Speaker 3: Up just being zone lead with you know, split flow
- 14:31Speaker 3: by the tight end and then used check is is
- 14:34Speaker 3: the lead block in his own lead concept? Yep?
- 14:37Speaker 1: And this is the end zone angle ye. So again
- 14:39Speaker 1: you can kind of see him doing his thing, and
- 14:42Speaker 1: there's so you get the motion running start man, look
- 14:44Speaker 1: at that.
- 14:44Speaker 4: Yeah, man, he just crazy.
- 14:48Speaker 2: You didn't have to do anything right? What was that great?
- 14:51Speaker 3: Great? Well, it was a great block by the right guard.
- 14:53Speaker 3: If I was watching it properly, it.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Was the left guard.
- 14:55Speaker 1: But you might be correct here on ninety he kind
- 14:58Speaker 1: of steals them off.
- 15:00Speaker 2: He is the right guard. On fifty Yeah, is that mckivitt.
- 15:04Speaker 1: No, he's the tao. Who's the right right right right?
- 15:08Speaker 1: Dominic pooney? Yeah, I pooney, I like to italianize Boonie.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Yeah, this is what they have to be. You know.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Who's blocking forty nine? Is that mckivitz. He comes up
- 15:23Speaker 1: into the second level yes, good block too. Yeah, provides
- 15:26Speaker 1: the cutback lane. Oh look at that. Look at that
- 15:29Speaker 1: move by McCaffrey right there. That's a tough angle for
- 15:31Speaker 1: the safety anyway.
- 15:32Speaker 3: But buyer too, isn't it?
- 15:34Speaker 2: It was?
- 15:34Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 15:35Speaker 1: Yeah, And this is the very next play again, this
- 15:37Speaker 1: against Chicago. Now you saw a little motion there.
- 15:40Speaker 3: Go back, go back. He's in the tilted wing.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Tilted wing. Look at that, I found two wings out,
- 15:45Speaker 2: two in a row.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,
- 15:51Speaker 1: long lines, We've all been there. But when it comes
- 15:53Speaker 1: to your cannabis, Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is
- 15:58Speaker 1: the dispensary for sports fans, just minutes outside of Philly,

- 17:58Speaker 2: So he comes across.
- 17:59Speaker 3: There's a great by Jennings, by the way, the crack
- 18:02Speaker 3: back whatever they call it these days. I guess that's
- 18:04Speaker 3: illegal theoretical. Yeah, I was gonna say legal. Yeah, Jennings
- 18:09Speaker 3: does a great job and you check kicks out and
- 18:11Speaker 3: this is just as you know.
- 18:12Speaker 4: And their receivers block, man, they block, they do.
- 18:16Speaker 3: Mean. Jennings is as tough as they come. He's not
- 18:18Speaker 3: a true number one. But you loved him come out
- 18:20Speaker 3: of Tennessee. He's a good player. I loved him. I
- 18:22Speaker 3: love remember that, yea, and everybody you know when he
- 18:25Speaker 3: ran a four seventy four or something like that. Everybody
- 18:27Speaker 3: you know, that's why he is who he is. But
- 18:29Speaker 3: he's his nails.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, who's who's forty four that he's blocking, right,
- 18:34Speaker 1: that's the linebacker, right, who's.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Right? Yeah he got hurt in this game.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Yeah, So there you go, McCaffrey into the end zone
- 18:43Speaker 1: for a touchdown. I like this one too. This is
- 18:46Speaker 1: against Seattle, of this is this is Seattle throwing a
- 18:50Speaker 1: rare blitz and you're gonna hit McCaffrey.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Over the middle.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Because so this is what the Eagles have to worry about.
- 18:59Speaker 1: You got you got the motion to the outside.
- 19:03Speaker 3: They're they're a huge motion team. Somebody got.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Look at the space? Now, how did that?
- 19:09Speaker 1: What did they do to create that kind of space
- 19:11Speaker 1: against a five man pressure?
- 19:12Speaker 2: Is it the motion to the outside.
- 19:14Speaker 3: By the five man pressure? So you're expanding you're expanding
- 19:18Speaker 3: the coverage, juice, that's forty four, that's that's use. Yeah,
- 19:22Speaker 3: coverge horizontally. Somebody has to go outside with him. You know,
- 19:26Speaker 3: you can't just say let's forget about them, don't forget
- 19:28Speaker 3: about Jake Tongues.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Jake Tongues fix and coverage.
- 19:33Speaker 3: So you know, yeah, yeah, I mean this is not
- 19:36Speaker 3: like a huge game, but I mean it's just.
- 19:40Speaker 1: They got answers against the Blitz that I feel like
- 19:42Speaker 1: they always do all right, two plays in the red
- 19:44Speaker 1: zone against the Cults that I've always thought Party has
- 19:48Speaker 1: like decent athleticism, Greg and just kind of more.
- 19:50Speaker 3: He has more than decent athleticism.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a he's a pretty good athlete.
- 19:53Speaker 1: And here's him roll to the right to extend to
- 19:55Speaker 1: play and then make a pretty tough throw in traffic.
- 19:58Speaker 1: There's the motion again, he rolls through his right and
- 20:03Speaker 1: there's Kittle.
- 20:05Speaker 3: Oh he's going to throw it back. Yeah, that's yeah,
- 20:08Speaker 3: that's a throw you'd probably go no, no, no, yes,
- 20:10Speaker 3: great play exactly exactly.
- 20:12Speaker 2: You gotta trust your arm on that throw.
- 20:14Speaker 3: Yeah. But yeah, until until this week, they were only
- 20:18Speaker 3: in the red zone one time, and that was the
- 20:21Speaker 3: one where thom Has spinned the interception. They've been phenomenal
- 20:24Speaker 3: in the red zone in the game since Perdy has
- 20:26Speaker 3: been back Party in the six games prior to the
- 20:30Speaker 3: Seattle game. In the six now he's back seven. But
- 20:32Speaker 3: in the sixth prior he thrown thirteen touchdowns in the
- 20:35Speaker 3: red zone.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Wow.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Yeah, they are a good red zone and a good
- 20:39Speaker 1: third down team.
- 20:41Speaker 3: Again, put this game aside, they probably still are. But
- 20:45Speaker 3: I think in this in the games, they were fifty
- 20:47Speaker 3: seven percent on a third down in the game since
- 20:49Speaker 3: Party came back.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Wow, that's good situational football there. Red zone third down
- 20:54Speaker 1: wins a lot of games.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Uh.
- 20:56Speaker 1: And then here's a touchdown Jwan Jennings also in another
- 20:59Speaker 1: red zone and play like you were referring to Greg.
- 21:03Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a good ball that was.
- 21:07Speaker 2: That wasn't an easy throw. This was not like wide
- 21:09Speaker 2: open guy.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a really good ball. No, Party's a good player.
- 21:14Speaker 3: You know, he's obviously he doesn't have a gun, right,
- 21:18Speaker 3: but he's just got a really good feel for timing, anticipation.
- 21:23Speaker 3: You know, he's just which you know, we've talked about
- 21:25Speaker 3: this in college, you don't see that because it's not
- 21:29Speaker 3: necessary with the difference in the games that you didn't
- 21:31Speaker 3: really know that about him until he got to the NFL,
- 21:34Speaker 3: which is one reason, which is one reason why he
- 21:36Speaker 3: was drafted where he was, because he was viewed as
- 21:39Speaker 3: a smaller than ideal sized quarterback without a big arm.
- 21:44Speaker 3: Good athlete, but not a special athlete, and you didn't know.
- 21:47Speaker 3: You know, it's hard to know about the anticipation of
- 21:49Speaker 3: timing because the college game doesn't really demand it.
- 21:52Speaker 4: There was one scout who told me you couldn't tell
- 21:55Speaker 4: him that he couldn't make certain throws, but he would
- 21:56Speaker 4: try a ball and die.
- 21:57Speaker 2: It just wouldn't get there.
- 21:58Speaker 3: Yeah, he's just not that guy.
- 22:00Speaker 4: Yeah, and he found the West Coast old school West
- 22:02Speaker 4: Coast offensive terms of he's.
- 22:04Speaker 3: A classic Shanahan quarterbacks, Yeah, that's what I mean. It's
- 22:07Speaker 3: perfect for Plus he's smart as hell Shanahan. I probably
- 22:12Speaker 3: shouldn't speak out a school here, but Shanahan's play calls
- 22:16Speaker 3: and what he asked the quarterback to do are really difficult. Okay.
- 22:21Speaker 3: And I was told by someone who knows that it
- 22:25Speaker 3: used to drive him nuts with Garoppolo because Garoppolo would
- 22:28Speaker 3: forget some of this stuff, you know, like in the huddle,
- 22:31Speaker 3: and it would just you know, it would be a problem. Yeah.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Party is just like brilliant.
- 22:39Speaker 1: There was something else that was really interesting about Party that, uh,
- 22:43Speaker 1: I'm trying to remember for the show. I can't now,
- 22:45Speaker 1: but either way, Yeah, just watching and tape, I was
- 22:48Speaker 1: surprised by his athleticism.
- 22:50Speaker 3: I forgot a cross athlete, not an explosive athlete, you know,
- 22:55Speaker 3: I learned man one of the things to learn and
- 22:58Speaker 3: this will help you guys, will we start you and
- 23:00Speaker 3: draft and you guys watch guys. There's a difference between
- 23:04Speaker 3: athletic and explosive. There's guys who are athletic who are
- 23:08Speaker 3: not explosive. And you know Proty is athletic but not explosive,
- 23:13Speaker 3: right you see that would like that's a mistake that's
- 23:16Speaker 3: made a lot of times with linebackers because everybody wants
- 23:19Speaker 3: guys who are like you know, look how twitchy they are.
- 23:21Speaker 3: But there are guys who are like Zach Thomas Hall
- 23:25Speaker 3: of Famer, athletic, not explosive. Right, you know, there's certain
- 23:29Speaker 3: guys and you got it. It's hard sometimes to know
- 23:32Speaker 3: the difference.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Great stuff, Greg, all right, we will get into more
- 23:36Speaker 1: of this Niners Eagles matchup, of course, in the Inside
- 23:39Speaker 1: the Birds pregame show, which will be out Saturday morning Friday.
