Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Now Labour wants to scrap National's Investment Boost scheme and
- 0:03Speaker 1: replace it with a one point five six billion dollar package.
- 0:07Speaker 1: It includes requiring big companies to pay small companies invoices
- 0:10Speaker 1: within fifteen days, lifting the GST threshold to eighty k,
- 0:14Speaker 1: and increasing the instant asset right off to ten k.
- 0:17Speaker 1: LeeAnne Watson is Business Canterbury CEO with me this morning,
- 0:20Speaker 1: Lee and good morning, Good morning Ryan. So which is
- 0:23Speaker 1: the better program? Which is the better policy? Do you think?
- 0:27Speaker 2: Look, I think the first thing to acknowledge is that
- 0:29Speaker 2: you know, given small businesses make up ninety seven percent
- 0:32Speaker 2: of businesses across New Zealand, it's great to see the
- 0:35Speaker 2: political parties outlining how they do intend to support those
- 0:39Speaker 2: small businesses. So and look, these policies are a good
- 0:42Speaker 2: starting point because we know some of the pain points
- 0:44Speaker 2: continue to be around cash flowing compliance and of course
- 0:47Speaker 2: that does have an aed ability for those small businesses
- 0:50Speaker 2: to invest in new sets. So these policies will certainly
- 0:53Speaker 2: make it easier to sort of grow and innovate and
- 0:55Speaker 2: drive productivity, which is a great starting point.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Totally. I think it's great that there is a focus,
- 0:59Speaker 1: but worth about six billion ones worth one point five.
- 1:02Speaker 1: So the benet, the overall the benefit to business as
- 1:06Speaker 1: a whole is way better off under National But is
- 1:10Speaker 1: labors smarter because it's targeting those smaller businesses there are
- 1:13Speaker 1: more of them and it's simpler.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Yeah. Look, I think you know that there's certainly some
- 1:19Speaker 2: of the policies that have been outlined are good. One
- 1:23Speaker 2: of the things that I do really want to reinforce
- 1:26Speaker 2: investment booths has been highly effective. That's been an effective
- 1:29Speaker 2: driver of business investment, productivity and growth, and removing it
- 1:33Speaker 2: I think would significantly weaken the overall package. You know.
- 1:37Speaker 2: But on that on the other side, you've.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Got to be the thing is you can't have both,
- 1:41Speaker 1: can you You know?
- 1:43Speaker 2: Well you can absolutely. I mean you can have both.
- 1:46Speaker 2: You know, there's definitely ways that we can have both,
- 1:49Speaker 2: and that I visit a manufacturer the other day and
- 1:53Speaker 2: they outlined three new pieces of equipment, all of which
- 1:55Speaker 2: had been brought under the investment booth scheme. So you know,
- 1:58Speaker 2: this does provide confident for businesses to actually do that.
- 2:01Speaker 2: And I think you can have both. I think it's
- 2:03Speaker 2: an end conversation on north all right.
