- 0:00Aloha. Wednesday morning. A wet band is crossing the islands right now, but it clears out by evening and trade winds take over. I'm Mele with what's happening in Hawaiʻi today.
- 1:41Showers and possible minor flooding are hitting windward areas and mountain slopes through midday — Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, Maui County, and the Big Island. By tonight, that clears out and trade winds return. If you're planning a windward hike or scenic drive today, conditions are wet. Wait for tomorrow when things dry out.
- 1:56South-facing shores are running 4.7 to 5.8 feet today under a High Surf Advisory through early tomorrow morning — strong swimmers only. The Big Island's Hapuna is much calmer at 1.9 feet, your safe bet for families and snorkelers. Channel waters around Maui County and the Big Island stay rough through Thursday evening.
- 2:12Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park has two trail closures: Kīpukapuaulu due to hazardous trees, and the Lava Tube Bridge is under repair. Kīlauea remains active at advisory level. Watch for volcanic ash in that area. The park is open otherwise.
- 2:24If today's showers catch you, our guide on rainy day activities breaks down how to find a dry pocket — most islands have one — plus indoor things to do per island if the weather sticks around. And if you're tracking the volcano: Episode 48 at Kīlauea ended June 1 after about 9 hours of fountaining. That makes it the most episodic-fountaining eruption recorded, surpassing Puʻuʻōʻō's 47 episodes.
- 2:44Thursday onward, trade wind weather takes over with just occasional brief showers on the windward side — a solid stretch into the weekend.
- 2:51The rainy day piece is on the site. Catch you tomorrow.
