- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Hello everyone, welcome back to the Astrology for Beginners podcast.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Stephanie Kate Boucher, and I am so happy to have you here.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: This is the podcast for you if you have ever wanted to learn how to read a natal
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: chart or were kind of interested in astrology and wished that you understood more
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: about it but didn't know where to begin or it seemed too complicated and you didn't
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: have the time or the resources to invest in learning it.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: My goal is to break things down for you episode by episode in the most simplified
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: way that I can so that you can learn to speak the language of the stars.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Thank you for learning astrology with me.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Hey astrology lovers, welcome back.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: We are here for another all new episode and today we are going to talk about how to
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: divide the natal chart into hemispheres and quadrants and what those things even
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: mean because maybe you haven't heard of them before.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: And of course, what those things mean for you in your own chart.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Okay, so here is how we'll start.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: As we already know,
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: the birth chart is made up of 12 astrological houses,
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: with each one ruling a different part of a person's life.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: The first house being the house of self, for instance.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: The second house being the house of personal finances, money, self-worth.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: The third being communication, thinking, your immediate surroundings.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: The fourth being our foundation, right?
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Our home and family and so on and so on.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: And in a natal chart,
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: having planets in any one of these houses signifies that the areas of life that are
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: ruled by that house are going to be emphasized for you.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: They are going to be a bigger focus in your life.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: There's increased energy there.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: They are going to be where you are learning some of your bigger lessons.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: And that doesn't mean you're not going to be experiencing the parts of life ruled
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: by the other houses that you don't have planets in.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: It just means that the ones that are occupied are emphasized.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: I know you know all of this because we've talked about that a lot,
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: but you may or may not know that the 12 houses aren't the only way we have at our
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: disposal to divide up the chart or to divide up that chart wheel to create meaning
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: for us.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: There are other ways that can give us information about ourselves.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: One of these ways is to start by dividing the chart in half.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: We can divide it in half two different ways.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: First horizontally by using the horizon line.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: That's the horizontal ascendant descendant line that runs from the first house
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: across to the seventh house.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: That's where the sun rises and where the sun sets on the horizon.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: That, of course, creates a top half of the chart and a bottom half of the chart.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: These are called sects, S-E-C-T.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: But you don't really need to worry about terminology right now.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: And the top and bottom represent the southern and northern hemispheres, respectively.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Or to put it more simply, for your purposes, day and night.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: When the sun is above the horizon, between sunrise and sunset, it's daytime.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: And when it's below the horizon, between sunset and sunrise, it's nighttime, right?
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: And one of the things we're going to talk about in more detail,
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: probably next week or in the next episode,
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: is day charts versus night charts.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Were you born during the day or at night?
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: What side of the horizon line is your sun located on?
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: And how are the two things different?
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: We'll talk about some of the nuances there and how that can impact you.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: And that will be our follow-up to today.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: Today,
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: though,
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: we'll talk about each of the four hemispheres separately and how they then overlap
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: to form quadrants.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: So you know what each of those things means.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: All four hemispheres, all four quadrants.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: Because all of the different segments have meaning and say something about you and your time here.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: So there's a top half and a bottom half of a natal chart.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: you can also divide the chart in half another way,
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: and that is vertically using the meridian line or the MCIC line that runs
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: vertically through the middle of your chart.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: That's typically the 10th house, fourth house axis.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: And when you do that,
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: you get a left side and a right side of the chart,
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: or more technically,
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: an eastern and western hemisphere.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: I want to note,
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: and this is important,
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: east and west in an astrology chart is the opposite of what it would be looking at
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: a map.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: On a regular map, the west is to the left and the east is to the right.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: It's the opposite in a chart.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: It's flip-flopped with the eastern hemisphere on the left and the western hemisphere on the right.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: The same is true for the top and bottom of the chart.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: By the way,
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: the top half of the chart represents the southern hemisphere and the bottom is the
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: northern hemisphere.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: So again, totally backwards compared to a map and the reverse of what people expect.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: I know that's confusing.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: It flies in the face of a lifetime's worth of directional understanding and it took
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: me a really long time to keep that straight for the record.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: In any case though, you can divide the chart left and right
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: And it has meaning if you have a lot of planets concentrated on the left versus on
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: the right,
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: or if you have a lot of planets concentrated on the top versus the bottom.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: And next,
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: now that you know that we can divide a chart using both of these lines,
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: using the horizon line and the meridian line,
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: then it's pretty easy to take this one step further and talk about what happens
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: when you use both of these lines together.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: With both of these lines used together at the same time, you no longer have just halves.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: You now have quadrants.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: There's top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: And those meanings all start to overlap, kind of like a Venn diagram.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: So let's break these quadrants down a bit.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: There are now four distinct sections of the chart.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Quadrant 1 runs from the ascendant line to the IC and encompasses houses 1 through 3.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: Quadrant 2 runs from the IC line to the descendant line and encompasses houses 4 through 6.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Quadrant three runs from the descendant line to the MC line and encompasses houses seven through nine.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: And quadrant four runs from the MC line back down to the ascendant line and
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: encompasses houses 10 through 12.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Each of those quadrants has a distinct energy that can influence our focus in life
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: and the way we orient ourselves in relation to the world around us.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: So we have hemispheres,
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: top half,
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: bottom half,
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: left half,
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: right half,
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: and we use those to create quadrants.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: Those are the mechanics involved.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: But let's spend some time now talking about what each of these sections,
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: these hemispheres and quadrants mean energetically so that you can use it to look
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: at your own chart and start thinking about yourself and your own life or the lives of,
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: family,
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: friends,
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: loved ones,
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: whatever.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Let's start with top and bottom.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: Then we'll do left and right.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: And then we'll focus on the quadrants.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: remember,
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: what you are eventually looking for,
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: and I say eventually because I think first it might be most helpful to just listen
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: to the meaning of everything first.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: You can look at the handout for today's episode on the Substack page for this
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: episode if you'd like to have a visual reference in front of you.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: The handout will show you the hemispheres and quadrants.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: So start with that,
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: if possible,
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: and then listen and think about where you have your planetary placements.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: Where are most of your planets concentrated?
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: Or are they concentrated at all?
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: Or do you have everything spread out more evenly around the whole chart?
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: Okay, the bottom and top halves are where we'll start.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: The bottom half of a chart, or houses one through six, signify your personal life.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: That's the most simple explanation.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: It's your own personal development, your personal life, and your own experiences as an individual.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: This half of your chart and all of the houses in it are where you work on yourself.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: It's where you work on building a sense of identity and where you learn how to be independent.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: It's where you determine your values.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: It's how you think.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: It's where you develop your sense of emotional security.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: It's what you like to do with your time.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: It's where you learn how to function in your day-to-day life and the way you like
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: to function in daily life.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: It's where you tend to family matters.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: It's where your personal foundations are.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: It's where you find a sense of belonging in the world by interacting with your
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: immediate surroundings,
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: your neighborhood,
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: your siblings,
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: your parents,
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: relatives,
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: kids,
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: co-workers.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: It's where you learn to express yourself simply for the sake of your own self-expression.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: And it's where you get stuff done each day.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: This is your personal world.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: Day-to-day living and functioning happens in the bottom half of your chart.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: The top half of the chart, on the other hand, is about your public life.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: It's you in relation to the external world outside of yourself and your immediate surroundings.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: This is where your public facing life takes place.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: So it's about your relationship with others,
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: your partnerships,
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: of course,
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: but also your relationships with groups and with the society you live in and with
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: humanity collectively.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: It involves collaborations.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: It involves networking.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: It involves mentoring and being mentored.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: It involves diplomacy and conflict revolution and laws and legal systems and your government.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: Companies you work for, groups you belong to, organizations you're involved in.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: It's your professional life and your achievements and the status that all of that
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: might bring to you in the eyes of other people.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: It involves social justice and humanitarian work or charity work.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: And it involves your compassion and your service to the collective.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: Any and all efforts to improve the state of humanity or to make the world a better
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: place or a different place would fall in the top half of this chart.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: So in short,
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: this top hemisphere,
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: the southern hemisphere,
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: is about an involvement and connection to the bigger,
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: wider world.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: So you'll want to take a look at your chart and see where the majority of your planets fall.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: If you have a high concentration of planets or most of your planets in the bottom
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: half or the bottom sect of your chart,
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: you may have a more inward facing perspective on life.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: You may be a little more reflective or introspective or more oriented towards your
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: personal world,
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: your day-to-day life,
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: or your own development as a person.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: And you might not have quite as much desire or as much drive to go get involved in
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: those more public-facing issues,
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: those societal issues,
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: those large organizational issues.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: public discourse might not feel as interesting to you unless you have some other
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: really key placements that contradict that.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: Because in astrology, there can always be contradictions for sure.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: But it can often be the case that these things might seem sort of irrelevant in the
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: context of your own life or your own human development.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: And that's because your mission here isn't so much related to you focusing heavily on those things.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: You are likely to be here to have experiences that would have you really focus on your personal world.
- 13:47SPEAKER_00: develop your personal world, and foster your own growth and evolution.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: So you would most likely benefit from having time to concentrate on developing who
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: you are,
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: what you want or don't want,
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: what you like or don't like, what your values are, who your closest people are and how they're doing.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: You might also be very focused on your family and your relatives and best friends.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: And you're thinking about how they're doing.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: And you really want to feel like you have a place to belong.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: And what do you do for fun in your spare time?
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: What lights you up?
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: And you've got a life to live each day, maybe a busy one in some cases, with things to do.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: And you've got to figure out how all of that's going to get done.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: How are you going to make all of that work?
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: this is not to say that someone with this type of chart isn't going to be as
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: successful in the world or isn't going to be a public figure.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: Lots of prominent people have this type of chart.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: But they might be successful people who are not actually all that concerned about
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: getting public recognition.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: or having eyes on them.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: I can give you some examples of that next week.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: But in some cases,
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: if these folks are in the limelight for some reason,
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: maybe that feels uncomfortable for them.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: And they try to stay out of it to the extent that they can.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: Keep their private lives private.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: That sort of thing.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: We can probably all think of a few celebrities who are technically famous,
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: but who you never see in the tabloids.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: or they only rarely do interviews.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: We don't actually know that much about them, right?
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: They don't speak much or about much outside of their work, right?
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: Because if you have this type of chart, your energy really is directed more inward.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: These tend to be pretty reflective people,
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: people who strive to understand themselves better,
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: people with rich emotions.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: This is an emotionally based part of the chart.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: People who probably need time for introspection so that they can gain more insight
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: about themselves and the things that are important to them.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: Some people say this is the introverted part of the chart,
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: and I kind of agree,
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: although I don't think that all people with lots of bottom placements are
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: necessarily introverts.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: I think it's more about where the overarching emphasis is within their psyche.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: Where are their thoughts directed?
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: What are they preoccupied with?
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: Where is their energy directed?
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: if you have most of your planets in the top half or sect of your chart,
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: then you may find you have a different kind of focus.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: Your focus may be pulled outward a lot of the time.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: And this can mean different things for different people.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: For some,
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: it could mean that you're a very extroverted person or a very social person who
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: loves to be around a lot of people mingling or networking or collaborating in groups.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: That could certainly be the case.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: But it could also be the case that you could still be a more shy or kind of
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: introspective person who does in fact direct a lot of their mental focus toward the
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: outer world.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: These people tend to have a desire to participate in public discourse.
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: And that pulls you outward.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: It pulls you out of your immediate surroundings toward more adventure and exploration of the world.
- 17:34SPEAKER_00: These folks may venture farther from home,
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: sometimes traveling or living away from their families of origin for a while and
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: meeting more people who aren't from the place that they're from.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: They may feel more excited about taking on leadership roles, about their profession or career path.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: That might feel more consuming and they might be more ambitious sometimes.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: And importantly,
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: these people may feel like it's important to go out and try to make some sort of
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: impact in the world.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: And those can be all really good things.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: The downside, though, is they might also care more about what other people think.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: So if you have this chart, it's a
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: You don't let that get in your way.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: Okay, that's top and bottom.
- 18:27SPEAKER_00: Now we have east and west, or left and right.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: Let's talk quickly about these hemispheres.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: The eastern hemisphere,
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: or the left side of your chart,
- 18:37SPEAKER_00: has to do with independence and individuality and being self-sufficient.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: I would say self-sufficient is kind of a keyword here.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: This area of the chart, this half, is also about initiation.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: That's another keyword.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: Remember, this is where the sun rises and starts a whole new day.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: So having a lot of planets or most planets on the left side of the chart can
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: encourage people to be initiators or people who start new things or get things going.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: If there's something they want to be or do or have,
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: these would often be people who are perfectly fine with the idea of going out to
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: get that started or to go get that done on their own with or without the support of
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: other people.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: So they're fairly autonomous and they don't particularly like to have others be in charge of them.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: So they're often entrepreneurs or leaders or in some position where they can call their own shots.
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: Having a lot of planets on the right side or the western hemisphere of the chart
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: can encourage people to be a bit more risk averse,
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: sometimes more cautious.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: But they're adaptable.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: They're very adaptable.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: And they're team players who tend to go with the flow.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: And going with the flow,
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: working well with other people in their lives is where and how they find many of
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: their biggest opportunities.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: They often have opportunities presented to them through their people,
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: sometimes because of their sociability or likability,
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: rather than taking on some new initiative independently by themselves.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: These folks do well working in groups and may prefer to work with groups rather
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: than alone,
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: and they're also more likely to decide things by consensus.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: Okay, so now you have your four hemispheres, north and south, east and west, just like the Earth.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: And when you put those four hemispheres together,
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: they overlap into quadrants,
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: four separate sections containing three houses each.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: As I said near the beginning of this episode,
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: Quadrant 1 runs from the Ascendant Line to the IC,
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: Houses 1-3.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: Quadrant 2 runs from the IC to the DC and encompasses Houses 4-6.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: Quadrant 3 runs from the DC to the MC, and that's Houses 7-9.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: And Quadrant 4...
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: runs from the MC line back to the ascendant line and encompasses houses 10 through 12.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: And again, this is all in the handout if you need a visual reference.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about these and what it means if one or more of these quadrants is
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: heavily emphasized in your chart.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: And by the way,
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: I've talked before about stelliums,
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: I think,
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: and how if you have several planets in a single house,
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: then the matters pertaining to that house are going to be heavily emphasized in
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: your life.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: The same holds true for quadrants and hemispheres for that matter.
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: If a quadrant in your chart is heavily populated,
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: the matters of that quadrant are going to be prevalent in your life.
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: the first quadrant,
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: which contains houses one through three,
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: is the quadrant that deals with self-awareness.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: Sometimes people call this the personal identity quadrant.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: A person with this quadrant emphasized is here to work on lessons around developing
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: the self or the sense of self.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: Remember, the overlapping hemispheres here are about both private life and independence.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: So it's personal identity.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: Sometimes this can come from having past lives where you focused quite a lot on
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: other people or caring for other people to the detriment of self.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: Maybe you couldn't be autonomous for some reason or you just weren't.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: And so now you get to learn about self-development and independence.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: It's about learning who you are and how you operate.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: You're answering questions like, who am I?
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: What do I value?
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: What do I want?
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: What do I think?
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: And how do I communicate with my surroundings?
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: This is not about being selfish.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: This is about self-exploration and identification and personal development and growth.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: The second quadrant,
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: which is houses four through six,
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: is about bringing that developed self from the first quadrant,
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: that actualized self,
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: into the environment that is around you,
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: the immediate environment.
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: So it's a bit more interactive.
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: There are other people interacting with you here,
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: your family,
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: the people in your home,
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: your children,
- 23:44SPEAKER_00: your paramours,
- 23:45SPEAKER_00: the people at work.
- 23:47SPEAKER_00: Now, that's all still part of your private life.
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: We're still in the bottom half of your chart,
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: but it's the part of your private life where you interact with other people who are
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: in your life more closely.
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: Some people call this the quadrant of personal expression.
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: You do express who you are to others.
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: It's about how you integrate yourself into your human surroundings.
- 24:12SPEAKER_00: It's a more caring place where you're looking at the ways you interact with family,
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: with children,
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: with your work or coworkers,
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: or with your routine.
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: How do you operate day to day and manage your routine?
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: So this spirit journey explores questions like, what do I feel?
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: What does my environment make me feel?
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: What should I do with my time?
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: How should I get things done?
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: The third quadrant,
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: which includes houses seven through nine,
- 24:44SPEAKER_00: this moves us into the top half of the chart,
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: that upper sect.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: So remember, we're getting outside of ourselves and our private lives and going more public now.
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: And people with a heavy concentration of planets here are developing their
- 25:00SPEAKER_00: awareness and understanding of other people and how they operate.
- 25:06SPEAKER_00: Understanding other people is very important here.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: They want to understand others,
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: and also they want to understand how they operate,
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: how they themselves operate within the context of being in relationship with other people.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: There are lots of partnership lessons,
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: collaboration lessons,
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: intimacy lessons,
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: lessons sometimes of loss or grief over others,
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: mentorship,
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: teacher-student lessons,
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: information sharing,
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: and lessons around networks.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: So people often call this the quadrant of social identity because it's about
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: figuring out who you are in the world.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: These would be people who might tend to seek a lot of interaction and support from others.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: They also want to be supportive, generally.
- 26:03SPEAKER_00: And so questions they're exploring are things like,
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: how do I balance my needs and desires with the needs and desires of others?
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: What are my values and are they the same as others?
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: How can we work together with our different values?
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: What's beyond my own environment?
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: What else is out there beyond me and my world?
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: The fourth and final quadrant contains houses 10 through 12,
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: and this one is about putting yourself into the context of the wider,
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: larger society that you belong to.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: This is collectively focused.
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: With this one,
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: there's a real strong desire to take your worldview or your concerns or your skills
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: and take them out into the collective where you can make an impact or bring some
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: benefit to a larger group of people.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: that could be your local Girl Scout troop or the clubs you belong to,
- 27:07SPEAKER_00: or it could be a company or corporation,
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: or it could be through the government or politics.
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: It could be a social or cultural movement.
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: It could be sharing your spirituality and trying to help people with it.
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: But these are placements that make you want to leave your mark, hopefully for the better.
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: And they make you inclined to public service.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: Again, it's about seeing yourself in the context of something larger.
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: It's realizing that you're a part of something much bigger than yourself.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: This is often called the quadrant of social identity.
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: You're both public facing and an initiator.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: So questions that get explored here on the soul level would be things like,
- 27:58SPEAKER_00: What could be going better and how can I contribute?
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: What will my legacy be?
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: I want to emphasize that all four quadrants and all four hemispheres are absolutely
- 28:12SPEAKER_00: of equal importance,
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: and they are all equally good and also difficult.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: There are no good or bad placements in a chart.
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: We all, as souls, work on all these different lessons and experiences many times in many different ways.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: Whatever we're doing now is just what we're doing now.
- 28:35SPEAKER_00: Before this, we did other things.
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: After this, we'll go on and do other things.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: This is what we're experiencing right now.
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: And all of it is beautiful and worthwhile and necessary.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: And all of it is challenging.
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: The other thing I want to address is what it might mean if you are someone who
- 28:54SPEAKER_00: doesn't really have any particular part of their chart emphasized very heavily.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: lots of people have most of their planets in one half of their chart or one
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: quadrant of their chart or possibly even two opposing quadrants,
- 29:09SPEAKER_00: like if you have a seesaw with lots of oppositions or something.
- 29:13SPEAKER_00: But not everyone.
- 29:16SPEAKER_00: Some people have a lot of planets that are sort of sprinkled around the whole wheel, more or less.
- 29:23SPEAKER_00: And if you have that kind of chart, it would probably mean that you are fairly balanced in this regard.
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: You're not necessarily going to lean way into any one of these things.
- 29:35SPEAKER_00: And instead, you're able to access a little bit of everything
- 29:39SPEAKER_00: And you can probably see many different perspectives and really understand a lot of
- 29:45SPEAKER_00: different people and feel at home in different parts of your life.
- 29:50SPEAKER_00: And your focus in life won't be so lopsided.
- 29:53SPEAKER_00: You stand a good chance of having balance, balance between being publicly focused and privately focused.
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: balanced between introversion and extroversion,
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: between caring for others and still being able to do what's best for you.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: Your chart will still be a day chart or a night chart.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: And again, we'll talk about that next time.
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: All right, that is all for today's episode.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: Stay tuned for part two of this episode next week.
- 30:25SPEAKER_00: In the meantime,
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: please take a moment to make sure you're following the show on whatever app you
- 30:30SPEAKER_00: like to listen on.
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: That will ensure that you never miss an episode and it will also ensure that more
- 30:37SPEAKER_00: astrology lovers can find it.
- 30:39SPEAKER_00: That's all for now, everyone.
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for being here today.
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: Have a great week and I will see you next time.
