- 0:03Speaker 1: And in the studio, if you're with us on 987's TikTok,
- 0:05Speaker 1: we are live as well. All-round good guy. I promise
- 0:09Speaker 1: you some very nice, sultry and soulful vocals. Welcome back
- 0:12Speaker 1: to the studio, Guest Liu.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Hello, good morning.
- 0:17Speaker 1: How's it going,
- 0:18Speaker 1: man? It's been two years since you stepped foot in
- 0:21Speaker 1: this studio. Yes, two years. What have you been cooking
- 0:24Speaker 1: in the past two years? Yeah,
- 0:26Speaker 2: I mean, the last time I released a song was, uh, yeah, 2024.
- 0:30Speaker 2: It was called I Love You in Five Years' time
- 0:32Speaker 2: and after I kind of released that, I took some
- 0:34Speaker 2: time to kind of think about.
- 0:35Speaker 2: You know, in the long run, what's the kind of
- 0:37Speaker 2: music that I wanted to do. So, ah, there was
- 0:40Speaker 2: a bit of kind of really, um, taking the time
- 0:43Speaker 2: of soul searching, finding what's the kind of sound I
- 0:45Speaker 2: want to create and this single now, I think it's
- 0:48Speaker 2: really representative of the stuff I want to do and
- 0:50Speaker 2: it's will be part of a 44 song
- 0:53Speaker 1: EPP. Does the 4 song EP include If I Loved
- 0:58Speaker 1: You in 5 Years?
- 0:59Speaker 2: No, yeah,
- 1:00Speaker 1: that would be, yeah, in the past. OK. Is it,
- 1:02Speaker 1: is it me or is his voice? Always, every time
- 1:06Speaker 1: he speaks, I'm like this guy should be a DJ
- 1:08Speaker 1: or something. I know, but what have you been up to, man?
- 1:10Speaker 1: How's school? Yeah the updates. What you up to?
- 1:14Speaker 2: Yeah, so I'm currently in my last year of school
- 1:17Speaker 2: in uni. I'm in NUS and I'm in the Conservatory
- 1:20Speaker 2: of Music. Yeah, I do.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Music collaboration, production, where we kind of have to do, ah,
- 1:26Speaker 2: produce our own projects and it also includes some form
- 1:28Speaker 2: of like, ah, usually some research and studies into like
- 1:31Speaker 2: understanding audiences, understanding how to, you know, um, what, what
- 1:35Speaker 2: are the different areas that you're interested to look into.
- 1:37Speaker 2: So some people look into, you know, maybe a certain
- 1:39Speaker 2: um age group that they're trying to reach out to,
- 1:42Speaker 2: do some research into that and then basically create a
- 1:44Speaker 2: a a project that
- 1:46Speaker 2: has a production output that reaches out to these audiences.
- 1:49Speaker 2: So what I've been trying to do is try to
- 1:52Speaker 2: work around um the development of artists. I've been researching
- 1:55Speaker 2: into that and like, you know, project management, artist management,
- 1:58Speaker 2: And all the songs that I'm doing now, I'm also
- 2:01Speaker 2: using it to to kind of help my my FYP
- 2:04Speaker 2: to to kind of use the songs as a material
- 2:07Speaker 2: for my production output.
- 2:08Speaker 1: So who,
- 2:09Speaker 1: who is your ideal demographic then? Like when you write
- 2:13Speaker 1: a song now, since you're talking about like your audience
- 2:16Speaker 1: and all that, do you have that audience in mind
- 2:19Speaker 1: that's listening to your track?
- 2:20Speaker 2: Yeah, because what I kind of got to realize for
- 2:24Speaker 2: myself is that I do have an affinity.
- 2:26Speaker 2: For for like older older songs. Yeah, yeah. I mean
- 2:31Speaker 2: I do enjoy like of course the new stuff I'm
- 2:34Speaker 2: always being open-minded to new genres and everything, but I
- 2:36Speaker 2: always kind of have a soft spot for for like,
- 2:39Speaker 2: you know, music in the eighties, seventies, so yeah, yeah.
- 2:42Speaker 2: So I'm trying to to kind of ah incorporate that
- 2:46Speaker 2: into into what I'm the music that I'm writing. So
- 2:48Speaker 2: it's a bit, it's not fully like classic 70s, 80s,
- 2:52Speaker 2: but it's also a bit of mix of pop.
- 2:54Speaker 2: So I think one of my inspirations of of the
- 2:57Speaker 2: more recent years was when Silk Sonic, you know, the album,
- 3:01Speaker 2: that kind of that's that kind of retro sound but
- 3:03Speaker 2: it's still so fresh and new and I was really
- 3:05Speaker 2: inspired by that. That's one of my inspirations. I don't have, yeah,
- 3:11Speaker 2: I didn't mention to to get the ticket. I think
- 3:18Speaker 2: there will be more, there will be more available and
- 3:18Speaker 2: I'll look out for that, but definitely one of my.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Inspiration. So I would say the target audience would be,
- 3:23Speaker 2: you know, I'm trying to reach out to as many, yeah,
- 3:25Speaker 2: this is, it's kind of like the current, ah, the
- 3:29Speaker 2: old sound, but in a new interpretation,
- 3:31Speaker 1: diverse
- 3:31Speaker 1: range of people that want to reach out to. So,
- 3:34Speaker 1: so you have your guitar with us in the studio?
- 3:36Speaker 2: Yes.
- 3:36Speaker 1: What's the song you're gonna give us
- 3:37Speaker 1: this morning,
- 3:38Speaker 2: my friend? Yes, so I'm gonna be playing my latest single.
- 3:41Speaker 2: It got released, um, I think just about two weeks
- 3:43Speaker 2: back on 9th October. It's called Won't Stop Loving.
- 3:47Speaker 2: And yeah, I think it's a really um a song
- 3:50Speaker 2: that's representative of what, what I want to do now. Uh,
- 3:52Speaker 2: with this song, I really wanted to explore that that
- 3:54Speaker 2: kind of old older sound with kind of like the,
- 3:58Speaker 2: the current interpretation of it. So, the modulations, really more
- 4:03Speaker 2: like rhythmic groovy stuff, and yeah, I think I, I,
- 4:07Speaker 2: I'm really proud of, of, of this track and I'm
- 4:09Speaker 2: excited to, to also start to release the others and
- 4:12Speaker 2: Let it build upon each other.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Let's hear it, man.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Let's hear it. OK. Thank you for bringing all your
- 4:17Speaker 1: stuff here today. We would love to hear it live
- 4:20Speaker 1: right now. Are you ready to go? Yeah, let's do it.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Let's do it. Alright, anytime, Gaston, take it
- 4:24Speaker 2: away. Let's go.
- 4:25Speaker 1: 234.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Never stop loving you, loving
- 4:31Speaker 1: you.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Good morning 97. It's Guston over here.
- 4:43Speaker 2: The latest single called Won't Stop Loving. Hope you guys
- 4:45Speaker 2: enjoy
- 4:46Speaker 1: it.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I never felt the
- 4:53Speaker 1: I
- 4:57Speaker 1: I
- 4:59Speaker 1: you
- 5:03Speaker 1: I can get you
- 5:10Speaker 1: just
- 5:50Speaker 1: Dreams come true
- 5:55Speaker 2: I
- 5:55Speaker 1: get all.
- 6:01Speaker 1: A
- 6:08Speaker 1: to be
- 6:17Speaker 1: you took me to
- 6:37Speaker 1: I wish come true.
- 6:57Speaker 1: you
- 7:04Speaker 1: It
- 7:05Speaker 1: have
- 7:37Speaker 1: It's, by the way, this guy, Gaston Liu live for
- 7:42Speaker 1: you on 987. That was amazing, Gaston. That was amazing.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Just God-given vocal talent right there. Yeah. And you know what,
- 7:48Speaker 1: like just kind of feeling you enjoy that like made
- 7:51Speaker 1: us happy, you know what I mean?
- 7:53Speaker 1: Thank you for chasing the haze away for a while,
- 7:56Speaker 1: at least in the studio. No, thank you so much.
- 7:58Speaker 1: That was so great. Gaston just performed his latest single.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Where can we find It Again? Tell us,
- 8:02Speaker 2: man. Gaston. Yes, you can find it on all streaming
- 8:04Speaker 2: platforms under the artist's name Gaston, G A S T
- 8:07Speaker 2: O N in caps. Yeah, Gaston Gaston.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Now he's figuring out like how he wants to say
- 8:12Speaker 1: it and all. OK, so graduation not too far away
- 8:16Speaker 1: for you. Not too far away. What, what is gonna
- 8:17Speaker 1: happen after that? Like, are you gonna put your full
- 8:20Speaker 1: time and energy into music or like what's happening?
- 8:23Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, I think the idea is to kind of
- 8:26Speaker 2: do music full time, but the reality of it is
- 8:29Speaker 2: probably doing a few different portfolios at the same time
- 8:32Speaker 2: to begin with. So like even on the side now
- 8:34Speaker 2: I've started like teaching, teaching, teaching guitar, teaching vocals.
- 8:39Speaker 2: And I'm also trying to branch out into different areas.
- 8:42Speaker 2: I have some friends that have been, uh, doing like MCing,
- 8:45Speaker 2: and I'm kind of like interested in that as well.
- 8:47Speaker 2: So I'm trying to like get my like trying to
- 8:50Speaker 2: get some experience in that as well over time.
- 8:52Speaker 1: But I must say you can talk, and when you
- 8:54Speaker 1: talk you actually drive forward. So I think you got
- 8:56Speaker 1: that going for you already. But when you say you
- 8:58Speaker 1: teach vocals, right, just a quick one. How do you,
- 9:01Speaker 1: are you qualified? How do you teach them the techniques
- 9:03Speaker 1: and all
- 9:03Speaker 1: that,
- 9:04Speaker 2: right? Um, I think.
- 9:05Speaker 2: For what what I'm teaching is more like pop vocal. So, OK, so,
- 9:10Speaker 2: but I did do classical singing actually like in the
- 9:12Speaker 2: past few years when I was doing like A level
- 9:15Speaker 2: music because he had to sing like classical stuff. So
- 9:17Speaker 2: I'm kind of, I do have my qualifications in that
- 9:21Speaker 2: sense on my CV
- 9:22Speaker 1: but I don't think anything can help me.
- 9:26Speaker 1: At this point, for real. But anyway, we were, we
- 9:30Speaker 1: were curious earlier, right, because we were saying like, what
- 9:32Speaker 1: exactly does your name mean? I don't know why we
- 9:34Speaker 1: were like talking about this off-air. So I did a
- 9:36Speaker 1: quick search on Chat GBT actually. OK, here we go. So,
- 9:41Speaker 1: Gaston is a French masculine name derived from the meaning
- 9:46Speaker 1: of guest or stranger.
- 9:48Speaker 1: OK. OK, and it means confidence, strength, and masculinity. Wow,
- 9:54Speaker 1: no wonder it's very aptly named Gaston in Beauty and
- 9:56Speaker 1: the Beast. Yeah, exactly. You can eat 4000 eggs, eggs.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Thank you so much for being with us here today. Yes,
- 10:04Speaker 1: it's a pleasure.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Anything you want to share or say to your newfound
- 10:09Speaker 1: fans or followers who are tuned in to us right now?
- 10:11Speaker 2: Yeah. Hi everyone. Yeah, it's so nice to meet all
- 10:13Speaker 2: of you. My name is Gaston and I'll be releasing
- 10:16Speaker 2: more music, actually one, hopefully by the end of next
- 10:20Speaker 2: month and it's accumulating into a 4 song EP around
- 10:25Speaker 2: April next year. So I'm really excited. Do follow along
- 10:28Speaker 2: with me, uh, follow me on my socials at Gaston Liu.
- 10:31Speaker 2: So, yeah, I'm still using my full name for for
- 10:33Speaker 2: my IG and you can use, ah, you know, all
- 10:36Speaker 2: all the different socials to find me and and follow
- 10:38Speaker 2: me on this journey. I'm really excited to be able
- 10:40Speaker 2: to to put out these songs that I think are
- 10:42Speaker 2: really representative of what I wanna do and the songs
- 10:45Speaker 2: are meant to, you know, lift you up, get you going,
- 10:48Speaker 2: make you feel good, you know, touch your soul.
- 10:51Speaker 2: That's the kind of music that I want to release
- 10:53Speaker 2: and I hope you guys enjoy it. Thank you so much.
- 10:55Speaker 1: We're excited. We're excited. We're rooting for you. Any idea
- 10:58Speaker 1: on the name of the EP just yet or you're
- 11:00Speaker 1: figuring it out? Yeah,
- 11:01Speaker 2: I'm still
- 11:02Speaker 2: figuring out some ideas, but I think I will review
- 11:04Speaker 2: it over time.
- 11:09Speaker 1: No, don't you better hire another marketing manager. Don't hire joking.
