- 0:00Hello, it's Chris Doone, one of them creepy intros before the
- 0:03actual anime club start. Just to tell you that at the end
- 0:07here, Dan, our amazing guest, has announced that he's working
- 0:12on a special project, but it's actually been revealed since the
- 0:16time of recording until now. So Saturday the 10th of January
- 0:202026 at the Quad Mogga Place in Derby, he's announced anime a go
- 0:27go, which is a day of classic Japanese animation.
- 0:30There's Patna ball the movie Macross plus movie edition
- 0:34memories and perfect blue. And if you're in the area, give
- 0:40it a watch, go attend Dan's put on some amazing films in with
- 0:47with Pollock Press and I wish him all the best.
- 0:50And I kind of stressed how much it's one of them use a lose it
- 0:54situation. So it's amazing bringing anime
- 0:58to everyone on the big screen and I kind of support it enough.
- 1:03But anyway, on with the show. Well, hello and welcome to
- 1:38another episode of Anime Club. Today is a very special episode
- 1:43because we have Phoebe joining me like normal.
- 1:45I'm Chris, I'm got a very special guest.
- 1:48Dan, how you doing? Hi guys.
- 1:53Yeah, that's fine. Thanks for having me on.
- 1:57And it's, yeah, it's nice to be in my spare room and on this
- 2:04show, in my spare room, it's. Lovely to have you diving in
- 2:08from your spare room with your very like as I said before as we
- 2:11were getting ready, very, very stylish bookcase.
- 2:14I feel like we're talking to a proper professional.
- 2:19No, no, no, no books. So none of those are mine.
- 2:25Just just rent them, rent them, things like this.
- 2:29Just before war, when we've started recorded there, you
- 2:33would just seen that all them books of philosophy and you
- 2:35actually wrote them all. I'd love to hear and pass it
- 2:43down, Josie. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:48All about hardcore subjects, yeah.
- 2:56Too hardcore for you, Chris. You could be able to handle.
- 2:59You wouldn't be able to handle the can't.
- 3:02Sorry. He's a, he's a philosopher.
- 3:05Emmanuel Plant. You too?
- 3:11Yeah. Yeah, but yeah, see, thanks for
- 3:16coming on. You got to talk about it.
- 3:18Was your pick actually Paranoia Agent?
- 3:23But yeah. Before we talk about that, what
- 3:28what got you into anime? What started?
- 3:31All off. So in 42 now it's going to be
- 3:40that that classic kind of manga entertainment era stuff coming
- 3:45out on VHS go into like HMV. It's the foreign film section.
- 3:53Yeah, yeah, yeah. Stuff that stuff that you can't
- 3:59buy yourself when you're that age and see probably ended up
- 4:05ended up buying like something that's a bit tamer because you
- 4:07can buy it yourself when you're in college.
- 4:10And and then seeing that the classic kind of Mango
- 4:14Entertainment sizzle reel with the kind of amazing kind of rock
- 4:19music, which at the time, I don't know why, but I just
- 4:24always thought, oh, manga have great music.
- 4:26I just didn't understand how licensing works.
- 4:29And years later I was like, Oh yeah.
- 4:32I mean, I haven't thought about this for a while now.
- 4:34And yeah, it's obviously a band's making cool music and
- 4:38Manga Entertainment just licensed it and I found out
- 4:41it's. Yeah, it's like Celtic Frost
- 4:45anyway, like that, that amazing sizzle reel was just still think
- 4:49it's just, I mean, big, big kind of nostalgic thing.
- 4:53But I think it's just incredible, sort of adrenaline,
- 4:57kind of insane. 2 minutes of. Yeah, just questionable stuff.
- 5:05Yeah. That's what.
- 5:07Yeah. And then you kind of like, you
- 5:08learn what all the big hitters were, and then you sort of.
- 5:12Yeah. But I guess at the time I was
- 5:13also skinned. So anything that was like a
- 5:16series, I just didn't didn't watch it.
- 5:18I couldn't afford it. So you're just, and I like
- 5:21getting the big hitters like, you know, the sort of, yeah, the
- 5:25sort of like Mount Rushmore of, of like classic anime, but yeah.
- 5:29Is it, is it mean if I ask you what's on your Mount Rushmore?
- 5:32So there's like 4. It'd be like your four big
- 5:35classic animes. Yeah, I mean from that era it's
- 5:39they're going to be pretty obvious, but it's going to it'll
- 5:43be like Akira, it's in the shell and it won't be any like it
- 5:49won't be any sort of Ghibli because of the sort of manga
- 5:52entertainment. It's got to be from their
- 5:55roster. So it'd be probably like at
- 5:58Labour and then probably like the Street Fighter 2 animated
- 6:05movie, like when you're a teenager that's it's going to be
- 6:13big, you know, Street Fighter was massive so.
- 6:16I've remember pausing it at a very specific scene of that
- 6:19film. But yeah, like everyone did.
- 6:23It was like our what's a film called?
- 6:26And we should cross our legs. Basic Instinct.
- 6:30That's it. Yeah, there is for science, an
- 6:39animated version of Sharon Stone cross to their legs.
- 6:47But. Yeah, What made you pick
- 6:50Paranoid Agent? So, yeah, obviously big fan of
- 6:58of con. So I was thinking of some what
- 7:04something that you guys haven't done already.
- 7:05And then I guess sadly, there's not a great amount to choose
- 7:11from with him, you know, hasn't been passing away.
- 7:15Probably about my age. And yeah, I just thought I've
- 7:20actually seen paranoia, paranoia agent.
- 7:23But like years ago, and I think we were, we were saying earlier
- 7:26that even at the time I couldn't explain to somebody else what
- 7:31was going on in it. So I thought, yeah, quite like
- 7:34to watch that again and try and work out what the Hell's
- 7:37happening. So.
- 7:38Yeah, which gave me a sense of relief because I actually begged
- 7:45Chris earlier. I was like, please don't ask me
- 7:47to describe what it was about because I'm not entirely sure I
- 7:51have figured it out yet. So when you said, when you say
- 7:54that, I'm like, oh, it's not just me.
- 7:59Yeah. So I don't think you get a full
- 8:01idea what it's about from the first 3 episodes.
- 8:04It kind of throws a lot at you. What leads nicely into me saying
- 8:09So? What is it about to Dad?
- 8:18So even when I was re watching these first three a couple of
- 8:23days ago thing, I just consciously went down the route
- 8:28of just making a couple of notes and they were very much like
- 8:31this is what makes me think of rather than like this is what
- 8:36it's about. Because not Chris.
- 8:39And I would just end up with like egg on my face if I was
- 8:44trying to first try to like stump out and like try and
- 8:48explain it to somebody. Yeah, just wouldn't work and I
- 8:52would have no no confidence saying it.
- 8:55But yeah, I've got ideas on what it makes me think of like the
- 8:59some of the themes and stuff. But yeah.
- 9:03That's fine. I mean, and have a go if you if
- 9:05you want and then we'll go into what it makes you think of after
- 9:09if you want. Well, suppose seems to be a big
- 9:15thing about like just the state of society.
- 9:22It always seems to keep coming back to like a society that's
- 9:26probably like overburdened and also kind of repressed in ways
- 9:31and overstimulated. And and obviously in a lot of
- 9:36his feature films, he's always seemed to be quite into like
- 9:41blaring of like dreams, reality, fantasy and and and what like
- 9:47sort of living in what was the early Internet age kind of has
- 9:52the potential to sort of exacerbate all of that and drive
- 9:56people mad today. But it seems to be a lot of that
- 10:01swirling around but. Yeah, and he does a lot of the.
- 10:06So like if I was going to try and badly describe what this is
- 10:11about, it's really like, and I think this is true of a lot of
- 10:14his work is it's actually quite a simple like basically there's
- 10:17always like a really simple mystery at the heart of
- 10:20everything he does. So in this is there has been a
- 10:22series of attacks by a character in roller blades with a gold
- 10:26back called Little Slugger. And each episode focuses on
- 10:30someone who has been attacked or like a different piece of the
- 10:33puzzle. But then swirling around that,
- 10:36you always have like these themes around perception and
- 10:39what's real, like what is in foot like and also like what's
- 10:45the perspective of the different characters and what about their
- 10:48lives changes the way that they perceive their reality.
- 10:52And it's the same for like Tokyo Godfathers.
- 10:54You have like, you know, the mystery is where's the baby
- 10:57from? How do we get the baby home?
- 11:00And it's also the same for pre care.
- 11:03It's like who's the person who's stolen the dream device?
- 11:07So you always have like this mystery, but then it's like the
- 11:10investigating of it is the yeah, you you play around with all
- 11:14these things. And I think there is a big thing
- 11:16in this about like mass delusion and fear and the, and the
- 11:21hysteria that crisis can provoke in crowds.
- 11:25And then how that, and I think that's like obviously where the
- 11:28title paranoia, how that creates this sense of paranoia or as
- 11:32like who's the attacker? Who's, who's going to be the
- 11:35next victim? And it kind of builds the
- 11:38tension each each episode as you get like an another.
- 11:43Well, I think we're being given pieces of a puzzle that I do not
- 11:46understand. Yes, I suspect there have been
- 11:49many clues and so far I have missed everyone because I
- 11:56genuinely don't know what's going on or who the killer is.
- 11:59But I know that there are some characters.
- 12:01I really hope they don't get slugged.
- 12:03That's all I know. I.
- 12:05Don't know because they don't die when they get snubbed by a
- 12:07little slugger. Yeah, but still, you don't want
- 12:10to see people that you like get slugged.
- 12:13Yeah. That might not like all of them.
- 12:16Some people deserve a slug. Little slice seems.
- 12:21It seems to be the as I going past episode 3, I honestly can't
- 12:29remember the instances where like slugger kind of gets almost
- 12:34gets summoned, but like definitely in the first three.
- 12:38It seems to be like when somebody re somebody goes beyond
- 12:44the point of old sort of rationality and kind of loses
- 12:49it. And now they either want to
- 12:51escape or they want to get revenge or they just their
- 12:56emotions get too much and they kind of go off the edge and then
- 12:59that seems to summon little slugger to do his slugging.
- 13:05Yes, it's. It, it almost feels like, you
- 13:08know, like those old camp stories where you have like, oh,
- 13:11there's like old McGinty in the woods who'll get you if you
- 13:14misbehave. There's an element of that kind
- 13:17of like urban mystery to little Slugger as the as it progresses,
- 13:21especially when, and I felt like that especially is it episode 2
- 13:24where you're in the high school and the kids are trying to like
- 13:30are basically saying that like the weird kid in their class is
- 13:33little Slugger. Yeah.
- 13:36And you you proper feel that kind of like urban campfire
- 13:41story kind of energy from it. Yeah, it's good.
- 13:45It's yeah, it's. Weird that used to kind of see
- 13:49it as them Little Slugger going after people.
- 13:52It was a bad thing because I saw it was a good thing for everyone
- 13:55who was sloped because not because I didn't like them or
- 13:58anything. That's just a little part of it.
- 14:00But it was like in the first episode, there was a create a
- 14:05character designer who made the little teddy with a massive
- 14:09head. She was under a lot of stress
- 14:11and she was trying to sign a new character and it seemed that
- 14:15when she was bopped on the head by Little Slugger, the kind of
- 14:18pressure went away for her. The second one, which was a
- 14:20schoolboy who was the attack, it happened since then and they
- 14:25were like, Oh well, everyone thinks it's me because I roller
- 14:29rollerblades and I like fit the description really well.
- 14:35I've been attacked. So it takes the suspicion off
- 14:39me. And the third one, and is about
- 14:42a nice way to put it, a woman sex burger.
- 14:48Yeah, thank you. Who was a secret sex burger?
- 14:55Fiance didn't know that. And our two worlds where she was
- 15:00like a housewife during the day or an office worker and the kind
- 15:03of the lives kept leaching into each other like the taxi driver
- 15:07she had seen as a client before. And so there were like merging
- 15:11as one. She got bopped on the head by
- 15:13Little Slugger and that kind of went away a little bit, so I saw
- 15:17it was like a good. Thing yeah, there's sometimes
- 15:21it's definitely like the character wants to escape and
- 15:27like get out of a situation can't work out how to do it in a
- 15:33you know, without the aid of of some mysterious in mind skating,
- 15:39yeah. So it's it's kind of like if you
- 15:42had a big meeting at work or something if little slugger came
- 15:46along bopped you on the head nearly woke up the next day or
- 15:48do off to the meeting anymore worked out our hits.
- 15:54We've all been there. Sorry, the.
- 16:00Dog's kicking it. But no were both me and Phoebe
- 16:06both commented on the on the opening?
- 16:08Because there's a very interesting opening song and
- 16:12then, but then animation. What?
- 16:14What did you think of it? Well, I think it was probably
- 16:21from seeing it in episode 2, I was, I'm looking at the credits
- 16:28because I know like a little bit about the composer.
- 16:32You know, it's that Suzumu Hiroshawa, I think he's done
- 16:37quite, he did quite a bit of work with Con, But so I wrote
- 16:44down because the credits give you the name of what that
- 16:47track's called and let me just so it's called Dream Island
- 16:54Obsessional Park. And I just feel like that's
- 16:58quite nice. Kind of you've got this kind of
- 17:03because I feel like especially like during the end credits,
- 17:08you've got this kind of loads of people asleep on a bit of grass.
- 17:14And then the big mascot is it Aromi and a lot bigger than we
- 17:19normally see the mascot and the mascot's the only one that's
- 17:23awake. And it's like makes me think of
- 17:27like the unconscious of everyone on in Japan or and then this
- 17:35fictional character is kind of like the king of is, is is is in
- 17:41charge of this kind of everyone's in the land of
- 17:45everyone's kind of dreaming or something.
- 17:47So I don't know. It's like makes me think of like
- 17:49things like collective unconscious and stuff.
- 17:53But yeah, I can't say a lot more about it, you know, but it feel
- 17:58like it's and then and then. Sort of.
- 18:03Oh, sorry, I was just picking up on that thing about like the
- 18:05collective consciousness thing. This idea of like shared
- 18:08dreaming, shared delusion is something that feels like, it's
- 18:12very, like, present in the themes of each episode, but also
- 18:16in Paprika because that is about like literally about what
- 18:20happens if we were to share our dreams and share our
- 18:23consciousness. Yeah, yeah.
- 18:26It's that interesting interplay between like the waking world
- 18:31and how that connects us into our, oh, sleep.
- 18:34Sorry, I interrupted you. You were.
- 18:36Going to say anything then. I know.
- 18:37Yeah. It's like this idea that like
- 18:41this, this kind of mascot that seems to be made primarily to
- 18:47sell like merch and stuff as massively popular.
- 18:50The idea that that or the the need to like, make another hit
- 18:55mascot. People's like real sort of
- 18:58livelihood depends on it. And it's like, so like this kind
- 19:03of fictional on some levels, like mascot is more like
- 19:08culturally important than like a homeless person that you see in
- 19:13the, you know, in one of the episodes that's kind of outside
- 19:17of on the edge of society, you know, like, so I don't know what
- 19:20I'm trying to say, but I feel like.
- 19:22There's like a kind of capitalist capitalism is king
- 19:26and it like it's there's in having it awake and alert while
- 19:31everyone else is sleeping. That kind of says something
- 19:34about its position in in negative consciousness and yeah,
- 19:39I think. So yeah, yeah, like the
- 19:42obsessional part that the track title is like, yeah, yeah.
- 19:46This kind of overstimulated kind of island of people.
- 19:52Yeah, goodnight. Actually like set the tone, but
- 19:58yeah. It it it does that wrong because
- 20:01there is some weird moments like the Marumi coming alive and
- 20:05talking to the creator as well. So do you think you see it's all
- 20:11in their head? Yeah, well, I mean at this
- 20:18point. Yes, I'm, I'm sure.
- 20:21Shit, I'm I'm smiling. I'm next with.
- 20:25This is how. This is how you tell us that
- 20:27your cuddly toys are talking to you.
- 20:30But. Yours, not you.
- 20:31Have cuddly does. I do like it when you do the
- 20:35voices, but yeah. Like everyone seems to be
- 20:43suffering some kind of psychosis where like someone changes or
- 20:48there's like a as in where Robbie comes alive or the the
- 20:53school kid when he realized when he talks about his other
- 20:57classmates saying that he's little slugger, the faces change
- 21:00and the perception of him goes all WAVY and horrible.
- 21:04So I don't know if that's about people's difference.
- 21:10Like it switches to his perspective of what he thinks
- 21:15the outside world thinks of him. Same with Miromi with them,
- 21:20right? I'm not sure how to say her
- 21:22name. Tukiko Siki Kang.
- 21:27Yeah. Cool.
- 21:28Yeah, There. Oh.
- 21:30Yeah. The the designer.
- 21:33Yes, that's it, Miss Saki. Yeah, but.
- 21:39Yeah, I I just thought it was interesting how it switches.
- 21:41I'm pleased with the perception where sometimes you don't know
- 21:44if it's from them or from you, so they could be in the must
- 21:50hysteria dream thing. I I think so.
- 21:52And I also think that Satoshi Khan does this con.
- 21:56So he does this amazing thing with a lot of his work where he,
- 22:01he tries to force you into the mindset of his characters.
- 22:05And I think there's something about having that vet like,
- 22:08because the opening track is like what, like an assault on
- 22:11the sensors. I think I was saying before,
- 22:12like the first time I watched it, I couldn't really take in
- 22:15what was happening because it a lot and very sudden and the
- 22:18visuals are fast and dynamic and you're kind of like almost dazed
- 22:23as the show starts and you have like Eddie was freaking out.
- 22:30It was a whole thing. And you have that.
- 22:33And I think when he's playing with the perception of the
- 22:36animation itself, you then also have like, this experience of
- 22:41what the characters are seeing and feeling just through the
- 22:45kind of like WAVY, distorted perception of reality.
- 22:50And then you're like experiencing their journey at
- 22:55the same time that they are experiencing it.
- 22:57In a way, it's like quite visceral.
- 22:59Yeah. Yeah.
- 23:01Did it remind you as well of Paprika as well?
- 23:04You know the dream sequences there because they they were
- 23:08about mental square. They were super mental.
- 23:11And there are moments where you're, you have no idea, like
- 23:14you're not sure when because you know what's going to happen is
- 23:17that he's going to cut into another dream, but you don't
- 23:20know how it's going to happen. And it's different every time.
- 23:23And you like about halfway through the film, you're like
- 23:26watching the scene to see what part of the scene is going to
- 23:29distort. And there's almost like a
- 23:32inexperience when you're watching this, which is very
- 23:34similar, but maybe like less. I think as this come, this is
- 23:38one of his first things, right? So this is him like, testing out
- 23:42a lot of his techniques that you see in his later films, I feel.
- 23:46Yeah, Yeah. And you see him testing out some
- 23:49of that, like, OK, how can I kind of set people on edge or
- 23:53how can I draw them into the story and make them really watch
- 23:57by fucking with their perception of reality?
- 24:01Because it does have you, like, going.
- 24:03Hang on a minute. What just happened?
- 24:04Like now the dog's talking to the woman.
- 24:07What's going on? Yeah, it's great.
- 24:10I lost it. Yeah, it definitely it feels
- 24:15like, so I say like a tore through this sort of themes that
- 24:20he's really into and and Will has and will kind of explore in
- 24:27more in more in more depth in his features.
- 24:30Yeah, it's like a bit of a, I wouldn't say all your greatest
- 24:34hits, but it's like definitely feels like a tore through.
- 24:36These are the things that's kind of making him tick and he wants
- 24:40to like. Watching, watching his early
- 24:44sketchbook in a way of like, these are the things that have
- 24:48caught my attention. And I'm going to spend some time
- 24:51working this out for the next couple of films.
- 24:54Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 24:56So I was just trying to quietly open drink.
- 24:58That didn't work. Very quiet.
- 25:04Yeah. Do you think Little Sugar is
- 25:06meant to be a liberal person in this?
- 25:12Do you think it's severe? Like.
- 25:13Oh. I feel like.
- 25:17Be a little person, a real person.
- 25:21I feel like having watched it all but a long time ago, I
- 25:26should probably know this, but I don't.
- 25:30I'd like him to be. I'd like to learn a bit more
- 25:34about him. Honestly can't remember if you
- 25:36do. Yeah, I'd like to him to be a
- 25:39real kind of a real figure, but maybe some of the details are
- 25:46maybe like superimposed on to him or you know, like he's he's
- 25:51a real character. But yeah, honestly can't
- 25:53remember. That's all that.
- 25:55That's fine because I'll watch this on on YouTube and I, I
- 26:00could see the comments of people that I've read and nine times
- 26:04out of 10 people were saying, oh wow, because I'm re watching
- 26:08this for the second time. It's weird how they give you all
- 26:11the answers in the first episode, even in the intro and
- 26:15I'm just to be trying to look at things and it's horrible.
- 26:18So I didn't know if it would be obvious to you because it would
- 26:21have been your second time watching this.
- 26:23Yeah, but from the first 3 episodes, who do you want to be,
- 26:27little Slugger? Do you want to be like an
- 26:30obvious person, outsider or someone from the first 3?
- 26:37My, my, my honest thing was I thought it was going to be the
- 26:40illustrator from like the get go because I was like, well,
- 26:44clearly she's insane. She's talking to her own
- 26:46creation. Like if that doesn't say
- 26:49psychosis, I don't know what does.
- 26:52But again, doesn't make sense because she gets attacked,
- 26:55right? So it can't be her.
- 27:01What about you, Don? Well, yeah, yeah.
- 27:06I feel like, I feel like it's somebody that we haven't already
- 27:15met yet. But I'm not.
- 27:18I'm not trying to like, give. I'm not trying to, like, drop
- 27:20booze because I genuinely can't. Yeah.
- 27:26As well as watching the opening sequence carefully, I'm now
- 27:28watching you carefully to see if you get any clothes.
- 27:34Scratch. My neries are better.
- 27:36The guy who touches his nose in episode 6?
- 27:40Yeah. I.
- 27:43Kind of want it to be the slimy journalist just because they
- 27:47don't like him. Yeah, it can't be, because he's
- 27:51way too. I know it can't be.
- 27:56Oh, I kind of wanted to be a mass hysteria thing where it's
- 28:02just a bunch of people being hit on the head and they'll be like,
- 28:05oh, yeah, and that sounds right. And it was a guy with the bent
- 28:09bat in the golden pair of skates.
- 28:13Yeah, yeah, yeah, To be fair, like that thing I.
- 28:17Was going to say if you saw someone go around on golden
- 28:19skates you would recognize them straight away.
- 28:22It's not common thing. It's not, dude.
- 28:26Every. Oh, what, you mean Golden State
- 28:27gold Skate Steve? Yeah, everyone knows him.
- 28:31The one with the bat. Yeah, yeah, Loves playing
- 28:35baseball. He can't stop him from skate.
- 28:38Can't stop him from skating down to the baseball path.
- 28:40Do. You like the bridge on his butt?
- 28:45I like so I like to look at the the name and imagine that the
- 28:49apostrophe is not there and it's slugger or something.
- 28:55Lil Slugger, Yeah, yeah, I kind of love that She she.
- 29:03Could with a name. Like that, she could only become
- 29:05one thing. Yeah, I do.
- 29:10I quite like the idea of him being like a kind of mass
- 29:13deluger that it's like that thing that they do in so when
- 29:16whenever there's like like a very notorious serial killer,
- 29:21what happens is the police get flooded with calls.
- 29:26People are convinced that their neighbor is the killer and is
- 29:30this kind of like this peak. So sometimes what happens is you
- 29:33really like to like I say they as if I know I've heard it on a
- 29:37true kind podcast that people will release very specific
- 29:41information or withhold specific information so they can very
- 29:44easily weed out whether things are real or like part of the
- 29:48mass hysteria around something. And I quite like the.
- 29:51Idea. Of Lillian Slugger being.
- 29:55Being being like. The all of the hysteria around
- 29:59an actual crime and actually only one person actually gets
- 30:02attacked by Lillian. Yeah, yeah, I feel like.
- 30:09Again. I.
- 30:10Can't. Remember how where this goes?
- 30:12But like I feel like this sort of.
- 30:16Elderly. Sort of homeless people that are
- 30:21almost addicting or commenting on the plot.
- 30:27Just I feel like. And they're obviously on the
- 30:30edge of, they don't seem to be infected by the kind of hysteria
- 30:39of, like, this sort of busy society.
- 30:42Like, there must be. I wish.
- 30:45I wish I could remember if that develops.
- 30:47But it must do because there's all the kind of chalk drawings
- 30:51on the floor, which I think that this guy ain't.
- 30:55The guy writes down someone's hospital room number and other
- 31:00stuff. Yeah.
- 31:01So yeah, I feel. Like there must.
- 31:03Be something to that. And there was.
- 31:06That old. Lady at the first attack,
- 31:10because the the designer, the Boromi, she saw an old lady
- 31:17rummaging through the some bins or something.
- 31:22Remember that. Like I was thinking.
- 31:23It's the oldies, the invites, getting all these.
- 31:27That's the million, you know. Yeah, it but.
- 31:30Then maybe they're the ones who figure out who it really is.
- 31:33This rather than me like because that again would be like very
- 31:39that feels. Like a Tokyo.
- 31:40Godfather's move where it's like you see sort of turns in like.
- 31:43Midsummer bridges are the ones who figure it out.
- 31:46Yeah, yeah. You know how?
- 31:49Sometimes in Midsummer murders, there's Little Slugger with
- 31:52Golden Gate. If that was Midsummer Murders.
- 31:57I would be watching every week. I would love.
- 32:00That, yeah. But don't worry, sorry.
- 32:08I'm going to say good old shonen bat which which one of the
- 32:18characters from the first 3 episodes haven't seen The head
- 32:20as well is your favorite because there's the star is the designer
- 32:25of Maromi. The second one is the schoolboy
- 32:29who thought he was being bullied.
- 32:31And the third. One is the sex worker.
- 32:37Let me. Yeah.
- 32:39What do you think, Dan? My.
- 32:43Favorite. Character.
- 32:44To to watch is the journalist, but I also think he's definitely
- 32:53he's like shown us that he's definitely a terrible human
- 32:56being, but it's just it's fun and he and he I feel like he's
- 33:02going to be quite important. Yeah, and he's, he's.
- 33:06I just think he's great to watch.
- 33:07But yeah, he's a rotter. He is a rotter and he is a
- 33:12creep. And I kind of hope he also has a
- 33:14come to Jesus moment because it would feel like a good that
- 33:21would feel interesting to me. I, I really enjoyed the the
- 33:26third the sex worker story. That's where I was starting to
- 33:30get like, like I could feel because I think the first
- 33:32episode I was just confused. Great.
- 33:35The second episode I was like. OK, I think I'm starting to get
- 33:38the hang of this right now. Maybe I just need to suspend any
- 33:41questions that I have and just ride the weirdness out.
- 33:46And then in the third. Episode but like I'd kind of
- 33:48like gone OK, so we've accepted the weirdness and I'm now into
- 33:51the story and getting attached to characters and I felt for her
- 33:55a lot and and also I was like, wait, because when she's
- 33:58listening to like the what's it called voicemails.
- 34:04Machine. Yeah, when she's.
- 34:05Listening to the voicemails and having a bit of like a kind of a
- 34:09mare with it. Yeah, the the voicemail.
- 34:15I just really feel for her. That's the voicemails.
- 34:18Is like so like con always it's like good devices to kind of
- 34:25illustrate somebody kind of unraveling and like losing who
- 34:32they are. And yeah, I think that's just a
- 34:33really good, a really good, like simple, but like really good way
- 34:39of doing that. I think.
- 34:41Yeah, it remained. It's a great way to.
- 34:43Like, do the exposition without it just being spoon fed to you.
- 34:49Like, it's a really lovely plot device.
- 34:51Yeah, yeah. But I thought was a.
- 34:53Friend. Ringing at first, you know, and
- 34:55it's to say, oh, you're going to have to stop this kind of thing.
- 34:58And I was like, oh, it's either a mom or a friend or someone
- 35:01who's like, very close to her. And then I was like, oh, this is
- 35:03kind of like a the machinist kind of deals.
- 35:07The Geordie leaves hangman on the fridge.
- 35:10Yeah. Because at first I thought it
- 35:13was like, oh, her husband's having an affair and that's why
- 35:16it's like she's have like having a hard time or something.
- 35:21And this is how she's found out. And then she's trying to like, I
- 35:25don't know. And.
- 35:26Then you kind of like. Clock, it's like, Oh no, no,
- 35:28it's it's she's the one who's trying to talk to herself.
- 35:33Yeah, also. I didn't realize that she was a
- 35:39couple with with that bloke. I thought they were Co workers
- 35:42until he turned around and just dropped it.
- 35:44Oh by the way, will you marry us?
- 35:46I was like, this is that how is that how it goes down?
- 35:50It's how easy you did. I came totally out of the blue
- 35:55for me. I didn't like you were saying.
- 35:58Like I didn't know whether there was a bit more that I should
- 36:01have picked up on or whether it was actually just supposed to be
- 36:05completely random. Like let's do this say, because
- 36:11she she. Bring a bring a box in dubuis
- 36:14and looked like an office and I thought there were Co workers or
- 36:17like not very close Co workers like acquaintances.
- 36:20I thought you say, oh, can you just put the box over there?
- 36:22Oh, by the way, will you marry us?
- 36:24You didn't even put up what you're emotion didn't do it.
- 36:26I'll say operate something weird's going on here.
- 36:28No wonder she's a sex worker at night just for a bit of crack,
- 36:33liberty and. Oh, she's too.
- 36:38Shame on you. Why do I feel like you were?
- 36:43Waiting to just just squeeze that in there that's.
- 36:48What? She said.
- 36:49Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 36:58But yeah, I. Totally forgot about the the
- 37:00journalist where he gets slipped as well so I didn't expect you
- 37:04to see that. Yeah, but yeah.
- 37:09Yeah, I just, yeah. I just feel like he's he's the
- 37:13character that I loved watching because because you've seen it.
- 37:18Because do you know when you remember a series and you only
- 37:20remember the good bits? Like if you recommend a show
- 37:24when you forget about the weird boy crush things and stuff like
- 37:27that it's you just remember the mix.
- 37:31Yeah, so I wonder if he's. Got something to do with later
- 37:34on? Yeah, but again.
- 37:38Yeah, I wish. I wish I could remember, but
- 37:40like, I feel like he's, he's going to like he's going to kind
- 37:45of thread all these things together.
- 37:47I think so. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 37:51Good. But I think I think.
- 37:53There is something. To him, the way you think, oh,
- 37:55he's going to be the because he's also like being a
- 37:57journalist. He feels naturally placed in the
- 38:00story to do that. Follow through of the thread.
- 38:06Yeah, yeah, he's going to like. He's going to, like, tangle up
- 38:09everyone. Yeah.
- 38:11And. Tangle up.
- 38:11With the police detectives a few more times and yeah, yeah,
- 38:17desperate for a story. So he can pay back.
- 38:20He's did he, he brought a wolf or something?
- 38:24Did he ran someone over? You put them in hospital and
- 38:27he's got to pay the bill? Yeah, I think so.
- 38:31Sort of something that so I think that's.
- 38:32Why he's so desperately get the the biggest scoop and this
- 38:36little slug has a big story at the minute with all the set what
- 38:39everyone's talking about. So he's he's kind of like
- 38:42hanging around the hospital being like, oh, they look like
- 38:46they've got a back wound up for interview them kind of thing.
- 38:49But he's a horrible person. Just got into some barely
- 38:53conscious man's room and been like, oh, so he'll hit you.
- 38:56What happened? Tell me about this traumatic
- 39:00event. You've experienced really
- 39:02recently, Yeah, in DL, please. DL.
- 39:07And then I'm going to go talk to a woman about her traumatic
- 39:10experience and look up her skirt under the table.
- 39:14Yeah, I forgot about that. Yeah.
- 39:17And also. In as we were, we were
- 39:20mentioning for just before we started about.
- 39:25Halfway through the 1st. Episode he he's, he's in that
- 39:30Internet cafs and he's, he barges, barges some kids out the
- 39:35way and does his Internet business and then gives them
- 39:39their little window back. And the, the kids are just
- 39:42checking out hardcore porn in an Internet Cafe and they're, they
- 39:46look like they're about 10 years old.
- 39:48And he doesn't care. He's like, here's your here's
- 39:52your porn back. I've done Googling back.
- 39:57About my killers. Just there's your porn.
- 39:59Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And it's just like, you know,
- 40:05societies is poorly in it. So yeah, yeah, even the kids.
- 40:13But to be fair. I, I think it's, I know it's a
- 40:17common view of Chris is bad, Chris is.
- 40:19Looked at porn in many an Internet cafe?
- 40:23Well, and it's done. Him no harm.
- 40:27I'm a perfectly well just. Person but no, it's like a it's
- 40:32like a common commentary on people's reliance on technology
- 40:36and lowering morals. Let's see.
- 40:38But it kind of heist to today I would say yeah, there's exactly.
- 40:45Same now I think. There's something there.
- 40:48And I think this, this is what makes it feel really current for
- 40:51me is that tug of net technology as a connect, both a connector
- 40:56and something that isolates you from like your collective
- 41:01conscious conscience and consciousness.
- 41:05So it's like in this, you see like technology being a point of
- 41:09stress for people as well as something that is a, a point of
- 41:14discovery. So it's, it's, and I think
- 41:17there, it's not like AI see it as like a, it's like morally
- 41:21ambiguous. It's like technology is a, a
- 41:23present force. And what feels important is how
- 41:27you access it, how you use it and, and how reliant are you on
- 41:32it. There's like a kind of element
- 41:34of balance because it's like, you could go so far the other
- 41:37way that you're outsider to it. And that also comes with its own
- 41:41challenges. And yeah, it it feels.
- 41:44Like sort of like, you know, like desires and fears of just
- 41:53society and then the sort of Internet age kind of serving as
- 42:00almost like rocket fuel to kind of jump start the best and the
- 42:04worst of all of that and kind of set kind of people way off
- 42:10balance. If you don't mean you kind of
- 42:12see that in like perfect blue and stuff like that.
- 42:15Yes, I've not seen that yet at the time we're recording at.
- 42:21The time we're recording, we. Might have added it to the
- 42:23roster by then. Yes.
- 42:25Yes. Maybe.
- 42:28Yeah, episode 3. In Paranoia, Paranoia Agent that
- 42:35that does feel quite like a perfect blue and Paprika.
- 42:41It's like, I feel like there's there's a lot of plot in episode
- 42:453. There's almost like too much
- 42:47plot, but it's good. But I think it's very much like,
- 42:51OK, let's crack on and let's get some plot down.
- 42:55Yeah. And whereas like seems to kick
- 42:57up a bit, doesn't it? Yeah, like episode.
- 43:00Two, it's like episode 2 is really kind of if they.
- 43:05Stretched that out any. Longer it, it would just be
- 43:08filler because it's good, but that that kind of suits its
- 43:11runtime, if you know what I mean.
- 43:13Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was just thinking.
- 43:17I see. Sometimes I don't think I'm
- 43:19spot. I have to watch Satoshi code
- 43:21stuff because it's like when I'm watching it.
- 43:24I came to get it as an idea. But when you ask us to use
- 43:28examples and discuss why I think that, I'm like.
- 43:34Just goes over my head sometimes.
- 43:37I also think that's OK. Though, Because I think it's
- 43:40like so we can sit here and talk about the themes and get really
- 43:43thinky about it, But I think it's also it's it's really
- 43:48heavily reliant on emotional feel and like these kind of like
- 43:52real gut punching pieces, like the whole like like, you know,
- 43:55the over stimulating opening sequence.
- 43:59I don't think that's necessarily decide designed to make you
- 44:03analyse. Anything.
- 44:04It's. Designed to make you like feel
- 44:07the beginning of the episode. And I think it's.
- 44:11OK, to to sit back and just go. Do you know what?
- 44:13I don't have to get this and I can just like get like, I'll
- 44:19feel my way through it rather than be like, I think I know
- 44:22what's going on here. That's because I had no idea
- 44:24what went on. It's.
- 44:26Like I have no idea. What's happening half the time I
- 44:31need, but I can tell that the emotion of The thing is there.
- 44:35What? Yeah, guys make of.
- 44:37The at the, at the end of every episode you get the yeah, an old
- 44:44guy, is he like standing on the moon or something?
- 44:48And he's just talking some cryptic stuff that's kind of
- 44:53about the next episode. It's like the it's like the
- 44:58opposite of like the log lady intro is in like Twin Peaks or
- 45:02something. But I was like, I definitely
- 45:06didn't like write any of that down.
- 45:08And I was just like, am I supposed, is this, am I supposed
- 45:11to, like, decipher what this guy's on about?
- 45:14But I don't know. It's like, really cryptic.
- 45:18Yeah, there's something about. So there's there's for me,
- 45:21there's there are two places where it makes my head go.
- 45:25The first is like the idea of the moon being this like symbol
- 45:29of progress because you have the whole space race and the.
- 45:34Kind of claiming. Of of the moon being a backdrop
- 45:37to. I suppose like like.
- 45:42A capitalist boom in terms of culture, like the moment that
- 45:46man first land on the moon. There's also part of me that
- 45:50just thinks this is like some weird anime stuff because you
- 45:54get in like series like Helsing, you have the Baron Harkonnen is
- 45:59like the voice of the see. And it's the same.
- 46:01If you like read the manga for some of these like series you
- 46:05have at the end of the book, you'll have like a conversation
- 46:08with the manga car and the OR the writer or some of the
- 46:13artists. But they'll often, like, insert
- 46:15these, like, odd characters as representations of themselves
- 46:19to, like, give you like a kind of breakdown of what's happening
- 46:22or what's to come. And I, I, there's part of me
- 46:26that thinks like, this is just like that kind of like practice
- 46:31or like convention, like manga convention is that this is like
- 46:36a little bit of a breakdown from the author being represented as
- 46:41this, like, old man on the moon. Yeah.
- 46:43And on the moon. So I I didn't get any of that
- 46:50only because. And I think we talked.
- 46:54About that, on the Detective Corner 1, I don't watch.
- 46:58It's never in the end. And if I watch them?
- 47:01I didn't because. I don't want to know.
- 47:04What happens in the next episode?
- 47:05I want to take our comments. It's.
- 47:08I remember missing out on so many.
- 47:12At the end of an. Episode they have.
- 47:14Jokes. Don't watch any of the ending
- 47:17for Vending Machine because they've got jokes at the end of
- 47:21Vending Machine and you just missed all the jokes.
- 47:24I think so, yeah. Actually, I'm actually like
- 47:27little skits. I know.
- 47:30See, I won't. See, I've only seen that after
- 47:33scene credits in like Marvel films because people have told
- 47:35us and sat us down and said no, don't leave now or have you
- 47:42choose them afterwards. So yeah, I didn't.
- 47:47I didn't. It's the.
- 47:51Actual content is so cryptic that there might be 10%, which
- 47:58is like, oh, that is something that's going to happen in the
- 48:02next episode. And then the rest is like, I
- 48:05yeah, it's all like the cow jumped over the moon and sat in
- 48:10the shadows. Whatever.
- 48:13It's like, yeah, I don't know. I don't know if I'm supposed to
- 48:15take this with me. Yeah, sometimes.
- 48:18Where I'm. Like, is this something that
- 48:21might be lost in translation? Like is this something that like
- 48:24like a well known touch point, like the cat, like the cat and
- 48:27the fiddle or whatever it is. Yeah.
- 48:29Cat with the fiddle, cat with the fiddle.
- 48:31You know, the cat, the fiddle nursery rhyme had a little
- 48:34piddle. And like, like most people I
- 48:40would say in England would go, oh, the cat and the fiddle with
- 48:42the cow that jumped over the moon.
- 48:44Like, are we missing part of like the, do you know what I
- 48:47mean? Like, is it like a lost in
- 48:49translation moment or is it genuinely cryptic?
- 48:52I also would Paranoia Agent is so dense.
- 48:55I do think that it probably is one that you would watch and
- 49:00then you could watch again and go, I can't believe I missed
- 49:03that. Yeah, I can't.
- 49:05Believe I'm like. Like you could actually it would
- 49:07hold up to like like a more than one viewing.
- 49:10Like just from this conversation alone, I've gone.
- 49:13I think I need to watch the first episode again.
- 49:17Yeah, I think it will. Be worth a watch after you watch
- 49:22the after the 12th episode and then go back after a bit of time
- 49:25and be like I get like the comments where they it tells the
- 49:30answer from the intro which I. Don't know if that's.
- 49:34Good or bad, I like. I'll barely, barely watch things
- 49:39twice though, because I don't have time.
- 49:43Namely, yeah, yeah. I think it's if you really enjoy
- 49:48a series it having that watchability, especially when
- 49:51it's only like 13 episodes long is.
- 49:55A mark. Of I think something that is
- 49:57like a proper classic because it's like it's like you can
- 50:00watch the Godfather over and over again.
- 50:02At least I can never seen. It OK?
- 50:09Is there an anime version? Yes, Tokyo Godfather's.
- 50:12I already made you watch it. It's fun.
- 50:17The homeless in The Godfather. Yeah, I saw his both give us
- 50:25dirty looks by the way, when I said.
- 50:29What? What?
- 50:33That's fine. We set you down.
- 50:38Be fine. I love it when people.
- 50:39Show us things are the love, yeah?
- 50:42But I know. Dad, you can't remember what
- 50:45happens after the three episodes and are there any questions that
- 50:50you want to be answered that you probably don't remember if the
- 50:55have been answered? Yeah, I want to.
- 51:02See more of these people that are writing big diagrams and
- 51:09chalked and whether or not that's just kind of flavour or
- 51:14whether that has a more meaningful bolt onto like the
- 51:24the little slugger stuff. That's yeah, honestly, yeah,
- 51:27can't remember, but I, I want to feel like it's going that I
- 51:31don't think we'll get loads even if if we get any of it, but I
- 51:34want more of that. That's like.
- 51:38Yeah, I feel like that's. Part of the mystery, I think.
- 51:43So I I. Remember when we did another
- 51:46Satoshi Corn film and there was a court set by him where he said
- 51:50what I wouldn't like to do direct and read like actual live
- 51:55action films because he kind of control the background.
- 51:58But he said when I do one of my films or series or whatever,
- 52:01everything that's on the screen is something that I want you to
- 52:05see. So there's got to be a reason
- 52:06for it because it's got enough of a plot point where the show
- 52:10like glimpses from write and stuff on the floor, like he does
- 52:14a bird and a couple of numbers. And so it's got to be answered.
- 52:17If not, why? Why not?
- 52:21He said. So why?
- 52:26Right? I think the second time.
- 52:28We see a big kind of chalk diagram.
- 52:32It's the first time someone's write in hospital room number
- 52:38where there's the designer ends up in and the second time we see
- 52:44a load of chalk kind of diagram, can't quite remember, but I
- 52:48think they finish it off by writing the number one and I
- 52:54think that's reference. To.
- 52:57What the the populist kid at school is like always.
- 53:01Like I'm number one, but I might be wrong on that, but I feel
- 53:04like. So they're just sort of, I don't
- 53:09know, like commenting or predicting.
- 53:13Strange things in the. Plot that are not all the same
- 53:17so yeah, like cryptic clues, yeah because right in I think
- 53:23it's just a #1 because that's totally different from writing
- 53:27like a room number or something so yeah, I want to.
- 53:31That's what makes me think I want to see more of this stuff
- 53:35and I wish I could Redempt. There's also like are they?
- 53:39Communicating with little Slugger is that are they like,
- 53:43are they the ones watching and like being like that way slug
- 53:46slug over there Yeah yeah, it's a it's proper mystery stuff.
- 53:56How about is that you? Guys, what, what are, what do
- 54:00you want to kind of see? How let's you know?
- 54:03Where do you want to see it go? Right.
- 54:07So me personally, I want to know what the deal is with the with
- 54:10the two policemen because one of them is good cop, one of them is
- 54:13bad cop. I want to know what happens with
- 54:15the slimy journalist if he gets his redemption arc.
- 54:18I want to know. But I'm not that bothered about
- 54:20the kid because he's a bit full of himself and I don't like
- 54:22people like that. I want to know what happens with
- 54:25the designer because she's a bit, I don't know she's, I don't
- 54:30think she's mental, but she is talking to a pushy doll.
- 54:36And he's gone. Psychotic, yeah.
- 54:39And then? Weirdly, least of all.
- 54:42But I do want to find it out who's little slugger that that's
- 54:45weird. The I know it's the overall
- 54:47story what brings them all together, but I'm not as
- 54:50interested in them than this individuals.
- 54:54Yeah, I'm more interested. In why people are getting
- 54:58slugged so it's like that that's.
- 55:01For me the question is. Because these people seem very
- 55:03disparate in a lot of ways. I think the journalist really is
- 55:06the only one who has a connection to someone because
- 55:08he's talked to other victims. Or does talk to other?
- 55:15Victims. But it's like what?
- 55:17What is connected? You know, what connects a sex
- 55:20worker and a bully, Like a high school bully, There's like the
- 55:25poor thing. They're hard.
- 55:29And obviously. The the sort of sex work there
- 55:34by by day. She's like the tutor of the
- 55:39flights hotshot student. Yeah.
- 55:43So yeah yeah. And I can't.
- 55:45Work out if it's like a like a 5° of separation situation where
- 55:50it's just pure coincidence that these people are connected
- 55:54whereas there's actually some sort of greater thread that
- 55:57pulls them together. So I think that's that's the
- 56:00thing that I'm watching for is like actually what is did and
- 56:03and also do they ever come together in a kind of collective
- 56:06sense? Because often in Satoshi, like
- 56:12in his films, in both Paprika and in Tokyo Godfathers, which
- 56:17we've reviewed there, there is a coming together of the cast
- 56:22towards the end. Like they have a moment of like
- 56:24genuine connection and and like meaningful character development
- 56:30together. And I'm kind of curious about is
- 56:33that going to happen here as well?
- 56:36And like, if so, how do they like, who is it?
- 56:38Who's going to have that kind of like meaningful character
- 56:41development and how will it play out?
- 56:44How will they kind of be drawn together by this?
- 56:47Yeah, because. Can't can't remember if we just
- 56:51talked about this before we record started recording, but at
- 56:56the moment we're only seeing all these characters together join
- 57:00the end credits when they're all asleep on that like grassy hill.
- 57:05And then the mascot is in the middle and the mascot's way
- 57:09bigger than it normally is and it's the only one that's awake.
- 57:12I think that's only time we're we're seeing all these
- 57:15characters that are not think at the moment.
- 57:18They're not necessarily in the same environments and stuff.
- 57:22Yeah, you see like one or. Two of like, you see that like
- 57:25maybe two of them will meet and then part ways, but you can
- 57:29really see them like together for like any prolonged period of
- 57:34time, yeah. Yeah, definitely.
- 57:41There's lots of loads of questions.
- 57:42Answered, which I think you'll probably need to watch through
- 57:47to answer all. Answer the mod.
- 57:50I think probably. So are you?
- 57:54Are you? Guys going to carry on and
- 57:57finish. I am, yeah, for sure.
- 58:00I think you've got you. I think this.
- 58:02Is Satoshi's only series, isn't it, besides these other films?
- 58:07And it's one of them things where you kind of have to pay
- 58:10attention, so. And I've started.
- 58:12Now. So I've got to finish it, baby.
- 58:16Yeah, yeah. I think it'll.
- 58:18Bug me if I don't. Yeah, yeah.
- 58:22Are you going to? Watch it.
- 58:24Yeah, I think I'm. Going to go back to episode 1
- 58:28and go again. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm yeah, I
- 58:34feel like, yeah, it's really nice feeling.
- 58:41I've been some of it come back to me and be like familiar, but
- 58:46only it's only coming back through a rewatch.
- 58:49Like it's it's bringing back stuff that's probably buried in
- 58:53my buried in my brain somewhere. But yeah, yeah.
- 58:57And here's the question. You have to.
- 58:58Ask yourself, which feels very fitting for the series, is are
- 59:02you remembering it or are you learning it for the first time
- 59:04and it just feels familiar? Yeah.
- 59:08How can you tell what is? Real.
- 59:12Yeah. Are our brains full of holes?
- 59:14Yeah. Like spice cheese.
- 59:21Thanks darling, please. I think that's.
- 59:24All the questions I've got. Is there anything else you want
- 59:27to add to our agent? Anything.
- 59:31Reservations or any questions we're we're.
- 59:34Starting to get, and I can't tell if this is just spooky
- 59:39flavour or going to mean something more, but we're
- 59:42starting to get more crows around squawking at people.
- 59:49Yeah, but I don't like them shorthand.
- 59:53So like. Foreboding.
- 59:56Yeah. Yeah.
- 59:59So crows normally bring. Isn't isn't a death?
- 1:00:04Think so. Or a slugger.
- 1:00:08Or a slug. Crows, famously.
- 1:00:12Best friends with bats? And rollerblades.
- 1:00:19I was. Really slow at getting.
- 1:00:20That. I was like, oh.
- 1:00:26I was like, yes, yeah, there we go.
- 1:00:29See what I did there 2. Flying things.
- 1:00:31They're both black. They just, you know, appear at
- 1:00:33Halloween. This is Christmas, December.
- 1:00:39You're right. Now I just really enjoyed it.
- 1:00:46I think I think this also is one that even though it would have
- 1:00:50at the time have been aired probably late at night week by.
- 1:00:55Week. This, I think, is a series that
- 1:00:57is probably best to be benched in one go, Yeah, because if I
- 1:01:02had to split it up week by week, I would be completely lost.
- 1:01:07Split without the Internet as. Well, and yeah, wouldn't be
- 1:01:12able. To Google what does this.
- 1:01:13Mean. Yeah, for his best.
- 1:01:18Friends I don't even know now. But yeah, I think that's also
- 1:01:28that's also on our age. You want to see it?
- 1:01:35Well. Because it's December and we're
- 1:01:36pre recording pretty early, we have no idea what's happening on
- 1:01:40our channel at the minute, but the Do you have anything coming
- 1:01:45up? Dan I.
- 1:01:50At time of recording, I'm getting ready to celebrate my
- 1:01:5610th anniversary of my like film club that I run.
- 1:01:59So I attempt to show a mixture of all different kinds of
- 1:02:05animations. So tends to be a lot of anime
- 1:02:08and then stop motion stuff as well.
- 1:02:11So yeah, I'll be, as this comes out in December, I'll be kind of
- 1:02:18crawling back into. My.
- 1:02:19Cave and sort of closing the door on the air but but then
- 1:02:26early next year I'm working on some more like classic anime
- 1:02:32screenings which. Yeah, so.
- 1:02:37If people don't know, I'm based in Nottingham and so yeah, I
- 1:02:41might be doing something around that area.
- 1:02:43So it, it feels quite exciting to say that I can't talk about
- 1:02:48it at the moment. Super, just because it's not
- 1:02:51there. Yeah, it's not been announced
- 1:02:53yet, but where can people? Keep an eye out for fun classic
- 1:02:59anime in knots So. Yeah, my film club is called
- 1:03:05Porlock Press and that's it's PORLOCK.
- 1:03:10It's just named after the village of Porlock, which I've
- 1:03:13never been to so, but yeah, Porlock Press, you can find that
- 1:03:17on Instagram and Facebook. Instagram, probably the best
- 1:03:21place. And I'll, yeah, hopefully
- 1:03:26towards probably around about the time that this comes out in
- 1:03:28December, there'll probably be some stuff out in the world
- 1:03:32about an event in January and that'll be happening around the
- 1:03:37Midlands. So kind of Darby Nottingham.
- 1:03:41So yeah, nice. Excellent.
- 1:03:44If you're in the area and you love Adame Paul, Lock Press is
- 1:03:48the Instagram Facebook account to follow.
- 1:03:53Yeah, that I. Just, you know, just got really
- 1:03:56like really hammered at home because it is great.
- 1:03:57And also the the other thing I love about your Instagram is you
- 1:04:00also have these amazing posters that you publish for each event,
- 1:04:05which are just yeah, that's. I just, that's one of my
- 1:04:09favorite bits of putting on stuff.
- 1:04:12I kind of, I've always kind of worked with really great like
- 1:04:17artists and designers and it usually involves me coming up
- 1:04:21with some like woolly ideas and then commissioning like some
- 1:04:26tons of people to make something beautiful.
- 1:04:29But yeah, it's, it's just something that I really like
- 1:04:31doing. And yeah, I've got a little
- 1:04:34folder at home which is my like Pollock Press archive of all my
- 1:04:39all my old posters. So yeah, they'll for this thing
- 1:04:44in January, there'll be there'll be a collaboration between
- 1:04:47Pollock Press and somebody else and then they'll all definitely
- 1:04:52have a beautiful poster by somebody so easily go.
- 1:04:57To the event, go have a look at the Instagram because it's
- 1:05:00that's how I like vicariously get to enjoy Stan.
- 1:05:07But yeah, thanks. So much for inviting young guys.
- 1:05:10Yeah, I've, Yeah, it's it's got me really excited to kind of get
- 1:05:16through the rest of paranoia. Paranoia Asian.
- 1:05:20So yeah, yeah. Fantastic.
- 1:05:23Thanks very much for coming. On Yeah and.
- 1:05:27With. That we'll say bye and don't be
- 1:05:31in anime. You top anime bye.
