- 0:01Mark chapter 16, let us pray. Jesus, our Lord and our God and
- 0:08our everything, we love you, Lord.
- 0:10Jesus, we come to you in spirit and truth.
- 0:13Lord, we are asking for a touch from on high.
- 0:16God, heal our bodies and heal our minds, heal our families and
- 0:20heal our marriages. God, heal this land.
- 0:22God, we do repent, Father. We repent and confess all of our
- 0:27sins, Lord, all the times that we have made it about self and
- 0:31we've made it about money and we've made it about position,
- 0:35God, and we've made it about security.
- 0:37God, I pray, Lord, that you will stir up within a zeal for your
- 0:42house. Lord, let us not shrink back
- 0:45from following after you, Lord. Let us not be cowards, Lord, let
- 0:50us not be fearful, Father, but increase our faith today.
- 0:54Increase our love for you today, Lord.
- 0:57We want to walk on the water, Lord, we want to come out to
- 1:00where you are, Lord, help us to have the strength and the faith
- 1:03to leave the boat, Lord, and to come out in faith, Lord, and
- 1:07follow you and to touch you, God, we want to be with you,
- 1:11Father, we love you. Lord Jesus, teach us today your
- 1:14words. Teach us today your thoughts
- 1:17teach us today your precepts. God, help us to be obedient unto
- 1:22you. Lord, obedient unto these words.
- 1:25Hide me and hide my words and hide my thoughts.
- 1:28Holy Spirit, you take up over, You take up residence.
- 1:33Holy Spirit, you guide us. Lord, I decrease as you
- 1:37increase. It's all about you.
- 1:38King Jesus, we love you, and it's in your holy and precious
- 1:42name that I pray. Amen.
- 1:46Let's start in verse one. And when the Sabbath was passed,
- 1:54Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James Salome, had bought
- 2:00sweet spices that they might come and anoint him.
- 2:07So we know that Jesus was placed in the tomb.
- 2:11We know that it was a tomb that had never been used.
- 2:15We know that Joseph of Arimathea had purchased it and that he had
- 2:21went and craved the body of Jesus from Pilate.
- 2:25And Pilate had checked to make sure that Jesus was dead, dead.
- 2:29And after he got the news that he was, he released him to
- 2:34Joseph. Joseph late a minute.
- 2:36The women knew where he was laid.
- 2:38And they go, and and they buy all this expensive perfume and
- 2:43spices to come and anoint his body.
- 2:46Verse 2. And very early in the morning,
- 2:50the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulcher at the
- 2:56rising of the sun. So we can see here that this is
- 3:01the reason we celebrate on the first day of the week and not on
- 3:06Sabbath. We see that it is such a
- 3:09glorious, monumental moment that Jesus has risen.
- 3:15He is alive. You cannot go to His tomb today.
- 3:19You cannot go to his grave today.
- 3:22Jesus is alive and He sits at the right hand of God making
- 3:26intercession for you and for me. And he went to prepare a place
- 3:30for us friends, three. And they said among themselves,
- 3:37Who shall roll us away? The stone from the door of the
- 3:41sepulcher. These women were not strong
- 3:44enough. It would have taken many men to
- 3:47be able to roll this stone away from the door.
- 3:51And these women are wondering who's going to rollback the
- 3:55stone for. And when they looked, they saw
- 4:01the stone was rolled away for it was very great.
- 4:07So this could not have been done by his little band of disciples
- 4:13in the middle of the night whenever the guards were there.
- 4:16It would have never happened. And we know from the full
- 4:19counsel of God's word all of the events that have happened here.
- 4:23We know that the angels have rolled it back.
- 4:26They're sitting on the stone, they're asking who do you seek?
- 4:31And of course they came to anoint the body of Jesus and
- 4:35they're all fearful and all of these events are taking place
- 4:40and the we know that the the soldiers go and try to talk to
- 4:46the chief priest. They didn't go back to Pilate.
- 4:50They didn't go back to their Roman officials.
- 4:53They went to the Jewish high priest.
- 4:56These Roman guards did, and they conspired and came up with a
- 5:01bunch of garbage about how his body had been stolen away and
- 5:06they created some kind of storyline.
- 5:09But we know that. We know that Jesus is risen and
- 5:12he is alive, and these words are trustworthy and true. 5 And
- 5:20entering into the sepulcher, they saw a young man sitting on
- 5:24the right side clothed in a long white garment, and they were
- 5:28affrighted. You know, of course, any time
- 5:31that an Angel appears on the scene, the first thing he says
- 5:34is do not be afraid, because it would have been a very a
- 5:39frightening sight to see this man, to see this Angel. 6 And he
- 5:46said unto them, Be not afraid. You seek Jesus of Nazareth,
- 5:51which was crucified. He is risen, He is not here.
- 5:55Behold the place where they laid him.
- 5:57So we know that the covering that would have been on his face
- 6:01was folded into a napkin, which would have signaled to them as
- 6:06someone at a dinner banquet that he is returning, that he is
- 6:11coming back, friends. And we can see it all laying out
- 6:15here. They said he says, behold, he
- 6:17says, check it. Go and check all of the facts,
- 6:22friends, you go back. Anybody who has ever set out on
- 6:26a course to disprove and discredit this Bible, they have
- 6:31become a believer themselves. The only ones who are saying
- 6:36that they don't believe in the words of the Bible are the ones
- 6:39that are ignorant of the words of the Bible and they haven't
- 6:42actually went and checked the track record.
- 6:44Friends, it all checks out. You cannot go and disprove and
- 6:49discredit this Bible. And if you try to tell me that
- 6:53you have somehow find any kind of discrepancy, it only proves
- 6:59that you're hostile towards God. You're hostile towards the Word
- 7:04of God, you're hostile towards Yahweh, you're hostile towards
- 7:09the Jews. It shows that you are ignorant
- 7:12of the Word of God, because when you go and try to uncover it
- 7:16all, it all proves itself. It is all trustworthy and true.
- 7:21It is without fault, and it is without error.
- 7:24Friends 7 But go your way. Tell his disciples and Peter
- 7:35that he goes before you into Galilee.
- 7:38There shall you see him as he said unto you.
- 7:41You remember that Jesus told them that He was going to have
- 7:45to suffer at the hands of his enemies and that he would die
- 7:50and be risen again on the third day, and then he would go before
- 7:56them into Galilee. They would have done well to
- 7:58hang on his every word like Mary did.
- 8:01Mary got it right when she poured out the alabaster jar on
- 8:05him and anointed him for his burial of this beautiful
- 8:09spikenard smell. And you can see here that the
- 8:13disciples had missed it. And you can see here that the
- 8:16Angel put the stamp on what Jesus had already said and he
- 8:22told, he tells them that he's going ahead of them into
- 8:25Galilee. And look how he says go and tell
- 8:28Peter. He doesn't say Simon.
- 8:30He had not lost his salvation in the denial of Christ.
- 8:35The three times. Here Peter wakes up, and he has
- 8:40another chance to give his life over to the Lord.
- 8:44Praise God, if you have breath in your lungs, it's not too
- 8:47late. Friends, call upon that name and
- 8:50be saved. 8 And they went out quickly and fled from the
- 8:55sepulcher, for they were trembling and were amazed.
- 8:58And neither said they anything to any man, for they were
- 9:02afraid. It must have all felt like a big
- 9:05dream. Here they are coming just to
- 9:07anoint his body, and they see this Angel, and the Angel is
- 9:11telling them Jesus is not here, he is risen, and he's going
- 9:16before you. And here they're running to tell
- 9:18the disciples they are not stopping, they are not passing.
- 9:25Go. 9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week,
- 9:32he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had
- 9:35cast 7 devils. So here we can see that Jesus
- 9:40appeared first to a woman. Jesus loves women, you know, in
- 9:45this day, at this time, women would have been looked down upon
- 9:50and here Jesus is proving that he sees women as Co equal heirs
- 9:58of the Kingdom of God, and he loves them. 10 And she went and
- 10:04told them that had been with him as they mourned and wept.
- 10:09Here they are, they're mourning and they're weeping because
- 10:13their master had been murdered. And here she comes with great
- 10:17NEWS. 11. And they, when they heard that
- 10:20he was alive and had been seen of her, did not believe.
- 10:27So Jesus has appeared unto her, and she's going to tell his
- 10:32disciples, and they did not believe.
- 10:36And it's no different for us today.
- 10:39We can see that people have been with him and we still are
- 10:42hostile towards the faith. 12 After that he appeared in
- 10:48another form unto 2 of them as they walked and went into the
- 10:52country. We know that he appeared to the
- 10:55disciples on the road to Emmaus, and we know that he was somewhat
- 10:59shrouded from them and he talked with them as just a passerby.
- 11:04But then as he broke the bread, they looked upon him and they
- 11:07saw that it was Jesus, and then he disappeared.
- 11:11This is amazing when you start thinking about Jesus being the
- 11:151st that was raised from the dead and the same power that
- 11:19raised Jesus from the dead lives inside of you friend.
- 11:23You have resurrection power inside of you friend and you
- 11:27will be raised from the dead. You will not stay in the ground
- 11:32friend and you will have a new body and it will be like Christ
- 11:38here in this moment. Look at how he operates. 13 And
- 11:44they went and told it unto the residue.
- 11:47Neither believe they them. We know that Thomas was
- 11:49doubting. Thomas said he would not believe
- 11:52unless he could stick his finger in his hands and his hole in his
- 11:56side. And we know that Jesus was dead,
- 11:58dead. And here he's alive, and he is
- 12:01appearing unto them, and he's wrecking the whole world right
- 12:05now. You know, just prior to this
- 12:07chapter, we could say that he was just a good man and a
- 12:11prophet and all of the good sayings that he had.
- 12:14But here he's proving to us the resurrection is the stamp,
- 12:19friends, of his divinity, of his deity.
- 12:23It is the stamp that we hold. Everything that holds in the
- 12:28balance, friends, between life and death, between heaven and
- 12:32hell, it's all proved here with Jesus's resurrection.
- 12:37He did not stay in the grave. He is alive today, friends,
- 12:41praise God. 14 Afterward He appeared unto the 11 as they sat
- 12:48at me, and upbraided them with their unbelief and their
- 12:51hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen
- 12:56Him after He was risen. He had told them time and time
- 12:59and time again. He talked to them like little
- 13:01children. He told them from the minute
- 13:04details of what was going to happen to him and what was
- 13:07going, what, where he was going to go and where they should go
- 13:10to meet him. And then he appeared to marry
- 13:13Magdalen. And he appeared to the two on
- 13:16the road. And here he upbraided them for
- 13:19their hardness of heart, friends.
- 13:21And it's no different for us. We get so sidetracked and so
- 13:25turned around and we get so incredibly distracted and
- 13:30distraught and we get watered down in our faith and we get
- 13:36watered down in our witness friends, and we get just
- 13:40pummeled by all the cares of this world and our faith wanes
- 13:45and our faith diminishes. And we would do well to increase
- 13:49our faith today. We would do well to lock eyes
- 13:52with Him and listen to His words today and actually believe them
- 13:56and put them into practice today and not let this world give us
- 14:03our theology, not let this world give us our doctrine.
- 14:07But let the holy words of this book give you your thoughts
- 14:11about God and about Jesus and about what does He say to you
- 14:15today? Friends, He's speaking to you
- 14:18loudly and boldly. What is He saying to you today?
- 14:21Obey that still small voice. He upbraided them because they
- 14:29did not believe. 15 And he said unto them, Go you into all the
- 14:37world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that
- 14:43believes and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believes
- 14:48not shall be damned. There's only two options here,
- 14:52friends. He gives you the great
- 14:54commandment. He tells you to go into all the
- 14:57earth, Judea, Samaria, Jerusalem.
- 15:00He tells you to go and preach to every single people group.
- 15:05Don't hold back because somebody doesn't look like you or speak
- 15:08your language or their culture is different from yours.
- 15:13We need to be preaching Jesus to every single man, woman and
- 15:18child in the entire globe. We cannot just look at them as
- 15:23different and as our enemies. We must see them the way that
- 15:27God does and there will be a representative from every tribe,
- 15:31nation and tongue in heaven. Friends, praise God Hallelujah
- 15:36that we are all on this journey together friends, and He is the
- 15:40answer to all of our problems. And then what does He tell us
- 15:44that we need to believe? We need to be baptized and we
- 15:48need to be saved and stamped with His name on our forehead,
- 15:54friends. But if they will not believe,
- 15:58shake the dust from the bottom of your feet, for there is
- 16:04damnation for those who refuse to believe the good news of
- 16:09Jesus Christ. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe
- 16:16in my name. Shall they cast out devils?
- 16:20They shall speak with new tongues, 18 And they shall take
- 16:25up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not
- 16:29hurt them. They shall lay hands on the
- 16:31sick, and they shall recover. What a bunch of loaded verses,
- 16:38friends. And the whole idea of this is
- 16:43that we should look different and we should not seek a sign,
- 16:51but we should also not be amazed whenever the miracles break out.
- 16:57Do not tempt the Lord your God by trying to practice these
- 17:05things as if He's just going to allow you to drink poison or to
- 17:14handle poisonous snakes. And no, he's just going to
- 17:17protect you. And when he doesn't and they
- 17:20die, it somehow disproves him. That's not the case at all,
- 17:26friends. This is the signs that will
- 17:31accompany those who are truly following after Him, and it will
- 17:36be miracle upon miracle upon miracle that breaks out beyond
- 17:41any of the things that are listed here.
- 17:45These are just the tip of the iceberg of what is available to
- 17:48us when we're truly following after Him, and there are many
- 17:55accounts of miracles that have happened over the last 2000
- 18:01years that far exceed any of the things listed here.
- 18:07But by and large, when we tempt the Lord God and try to make him
- 18:11behave in a certain way and put Him in a box, it doesn't work
- 18:14that way. Friends, this is faith that gets
- 18:19us out of the boat and allows us to walk on water. 19 So then
- 18:30after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into
- 18:34heaven and sat on the right hand of God.
- 18:39We'll end on 20 And they went forth and preached everywhere,
- 18:43and the Lord working with them and confirming the Word with
- 18:47signs following. Amen.
- 18:55What an amazing book of the Bible, the Gospel of Mark.
- 19:01What an amazing time we've had together studying this.
- 19:04I hope you've been blessed by this book of the Bible.
- 19:08I know I sure have, many times over.
- 19:12We can see the fast track of Jesus's ministry, of the things
- 19:17that he did. We can see that His words are
- 19:21trustworthy and true. We can see that He loves us and
- 19:25He loves us well, and He is interceding on our behalf and
- 19:30He's seated at the right hand of God and He went to prepare a
- 19:33place for us and we should look up and see our redemption is
- 19:37drawing near. It's at the door, friends.
- 19:45I hope you're blessed today and we will continue this journey on
- 19:52tomorrow. I love you and so does God.
- 19:59We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 20:01God bless you.
