- 6:11Yeah, it's in. It's always great to have you.
- 6:13You've you've been on this podcast.
- 6:17I don't remember exactly when it was but it was we were talking
- 6:19about your father of the Wolves gotta know what you call it like
- 6:25Outdoors guide or something. It's like yeah, I'll doors
- 6:29toward God. Go back with nature as it should
- 6:34be. So, yeah, you've been here on
- 6:37this podcast for at least once before that, I can think of, and
- 6:40you've been a longtime friend, we met in person, you know,
- 6:44years ago when you were doing some bands, like black, metal
- 6:48death, metal type stuff and now you're doing the school board
- 6:51met or Nordic folk or whatever. I guess that would be the right
- 6:56category. Also storytelling a big tiger
- 7:10that's good. Having you on once again welcome
- 7:14back to the Ryan. Can you hear us?
- 7:21Yeah, I'm not hearing you Brian. Can you try one more time?
- 7:27How about now can you hear me at all?
- 7:29There we go. There we go.
- 7:30Yes. Okay.
- 7:32All right. Technology is wonderful, isn't
- 7:35it? I hear you, man.
- 7:36It's, it's, it's one of those great things to deal with.
- 7:38But yeah, so you sound great and I'll turn it over to you to just
- 7:42reintroduce yourself. Now that everybody can hear you.
- 7:44So about the technical difficulties For most several
- 8:01years now but just things that I don't.
- 8:08With me, other learn in and and floor the hardened not free
- 8:24Drew. Think of young and Brian, I'm
- 8:29going to pause you there for a second buddy because I know
- 8:31you're getting into stuff and it's and it's cutting in and out
- 8:34real real bad again, not sure. Why is it?
- 8:41It's not just me, right? Because everybody else having a
- 8:43good time. I know.
- 8:44It's cutting out sir. Okay okay.
- 8:50Yeah I don't know man. I hate that.
- 8:52It's like your every other word is is cutting in and out and
- 8:56it's just like it's almost like a bad connection on your end.
- 9:00Let me move up to 22. The final casting will see maybe
- 9:04if it fixes itself along the way.
- 9:08Again, apologies. So our other guest and a
- 9:12longtime friend, a brother of Mine, He's earning my podcast.
- 9:16Several, several times, welcome to the show.
- 9:19Papa Olufsen of yoga teacher Workshop.
- 9:23Thanks for having me on again. It's always a pleasure pleasure.
- 9:29I love coming on and talking on the various topics and different
- 9:33things that you do. It's a it's a great work that
- 9:36you do for the community and midgard musings.
- 9:38A lot of people appreciate it and your voice and your thought
- 9:42and Bob will you give back? But yeah as you said Papa all of
- 9:46a sudden from java to your Workshop here in the Blue Ridge
- 9:50Mountains of Appalachia Carolina, drums, and rattles
- 9:56other primitive. Instruments and rooms and all
- 10:00that good Norse Pagan even type stuff.
- 10:07Yeah, hell, yeah, man. You've actually provided.
- 10:11I did it myself with a number of instruments engine and things
- 10:16that are adorning my space back here.
- 10:19Some of the things that has been introduced on Scogan mayor's
- 10:24project, you know Josh has projects over me or something.
- 10:26I think he's got is that am I correct in saying that you've
- 10:29got some of Papa's instruments on some of your instrumental
- 10:33tracks and stuff? Is that right?
- 10:34Oh that's absolutely mad. I have a few items from him
- 10:38which are my favorites. And then me and hims been in
- 10:41talking of a couple more coming this upcoming year you know man
- 10:46like it's like when it comes to his stuff.
- 10:49It's almost like a potato chip you know you can't have just one
- 10:53EK, it's for or tattoos, you know, you can't stop at just
- 10:57one. It's addictive and it's the good
- 10:58kind of addiction, I think. Oh, absolutely.
- 11:04It's a healthy addiction. Absolutely.
- 11:06Yeah. Yeah.
- 11:07And it's something that, you know, as when you feed it, it
- 11:11helps out, you know, a small business, a pagan owned and
- 11:15operated business which, of course, you know, we're all for
- 11:18and about, and yeah, I mean, APA stuff has been, I don't know if
- 11:24the listeners and viewers realize this but pop is talents
- 11:29have reached far and wide not just here in the domestic us you
- 11:33know some beep. Some some of you may have heard
- 11:36of This this guy who has a project called done, hi.
- 11:41I'm Dan Haim. Have you want to whatever
- 11:44however, you pronounce it done? Hame and you have, you pop a,
- 11:49you've provided him with an item or two.
- 11:52I believe correct. Maybe maybe not because he just
- 12:05got it in there. He just kind of sitting there
- 12:06thinking about it yet. His pictures, most beautiful.
- 12:10It was it was like he was a he was in deep thought right there.
- 12:13He was like, I'm the did I did? I don't know.
- 12:15Maybe we're just having a great time tonight.
- 12:18Just fighting with technology. This is.
- 12:21Yeah, it keeps me out and We were wondering because like the
- 12:29you know what we could see on the screen is like you were just
- 12:31like you were like this Frozen in time just thinking about what
- 12:36I just said. But I was what I was saying
- 12:45about your who you've provided instruments for not just for
- 12:48here in the US. But you've there's a guy that
- 12:51people are, you know, made may know as down Haim and I believe
- 12:54you've gotten to provide him with a knife.
- 12:57Camera two, right? Yeah.
- 12:59Michael Schafer's got a commemorative drum that I did
- 13:03were just the general work. That he puts together there and
- 13:08and some percussion sticks and But things all over the place.
- 13:14Yeah. So yeah.
- 13:16He's a he's actually a huge inspiration of mine for my
- 13:20project, man. So to know that both of us have
- 13:25an instrument made by you makes me makes me even more happier
- 13:30that now, I've got to give a shout out to another brother of
- 13:33mine. Cody, another Shaffer just felt
- 13:36a little bit different for Elder.
- 13:38Vaak, the yes, the musical project that he's got working.
- 13:42Fantastic. Yeah, a little pieces and he's
- 13:47very talented individual with any piece that he touches.
- 13:52Yeah, that's for sure. Even when it comes to his
- 13:55crafting, you know the all of the wire wrapped gems and stones
- 13:58and things that he does. My wife has a piece that he made
- 14:01that I commissioned him for for her birthday.
- 14:04This year really nice kind of Crescent moon-shaped amethyst
- 14:08stone that he that he did a wonderful job on.
- 14:11So yeah, a big shout-out to Cody.
- 14:13I'd love to get him on the show. I've actually asked him a couple
- 14:16of times and whether it's due to scheduling conflicts or just a
- 14:23He wasn't ready. No just to get out here and talk
- 14:26and stuff which I totally respect and understand.
- 14:29But you know Cody and you know you watching listening to this
- 14:33man I'm I would still love to have you on this show when and
- 14:36if you're ever ready so and if Cody is a listening to this as
- 14:39well you know me and Cody have kind of started having a few
- 14:42conversations here and there a lot and I'm also a huge fan of
- 14:46his project. As you know, there's not many of
- 14:50us Nordic Pagan from America artist.
- 14:55But you know, I'm going to have to drag him out at the state he
- 14:58lives. And we're going to have to do a
- 14:59tour Cody. We're going to get together and
- 15:01do it to her man. That'd be all.
- 15:04That would be, that would be. So we're all here guys, like to
- 15:09some degree to various degrees. I know we were running into some
- 15:13audio and technical things, Richard, I you might be muted.
- 15:17So when and as you're able to say something, just unmute
- 15:20yourself and whatnot, but you This is the, this is the final
- 15:24episode of season, 3 of the random even ramblings podcast
- 15:29and each each year is a season. I know different Productions,
- 15:34divided their episodes and seasons of differently.
- 15:38Lot of them will do it quarterly or you know semi-annually or
- 15:43whatever but I've just run every season of the podcast as a year.
- 15:49So season 1 was the first year that I started doing this and
- 15:51then two and three thereafter. And this, this episode marks 45
- 15:57episodes for the season, which means almost every week for this
- 16:01whole year of 2022. I've, I've produced something
- 16:06in, like, you know, the guests that have come on.
- 16:10Some of you who have, of course, return for this and then new
- 16:13guests and making new friends. You know, it's been a really
- 16:17awesome year and I just want to first of all, thank all the
- 16:19listeners. Thank all the viewers for And a
- 16:22part of this. Because like, Brian for
- 16:24instance, hopefully, your will be able to hear you better
- 16:27throughout the, the podcast because you were one of the ones
- 16:29that share, you know, wanted to kind of introduce a topic as it
- 16:34were for the for the ramblings of tonight, which I think is a
- 16:38great one, you know. But you're as you had mentioned
- 16:41with me offline, was you know, I've been listening for a while
- 16:45and, you know, I think you mentioned first-time, caller
- 16:48longtime listener. But always, I laugh about that
- 16:51all the time because I guess Ivan time.
- 16:53Maybe dating myself but that's you know, when you listen to Old
- 16:55like radio shows Casey Kasem, and yeah, yeah yeah yeah.
- 17:01So I can hear me now is 0. That is that it that is great.
- 17:05Whatever you did. I abandon the laptop and went to
- 17:09the cell phone. That's okay.
- 17:11Okay, cool, awesome yes. Oh you sound great look, great.
- 17:15And so let me let me, let me rewind a bit then and now that
- 17:19you've got a good setup here, introduce yourself please.
- 17:22And for everybody. All right, thanks Jesse.
- 17:25I've been, I've been listening to / watching your podcast since
- 17:30since season one. I think, since the very
- 17:32beginning. If, if I didn't catch you, right
- 17:34when you first started, I shortly thereafter went back to
- 17:38the very beginning. So I'm pretty confident in
- 17:41saying, I've watched them all and I appreciate what you do.
- 17:45It really is, like, like Papa said, it's great for the, for
- 17:48the community of heathens, especially for people.
- 17:52Like me, that are solitary in nature and I'm a solitary
- 17:56practitioner. I've learned a lot mostly from
- 18:00all my my books, you know, there's of vast wealth of
- 18:05knowledge in books on our religion, but I love the Insight
- 18:10that you give, so I appreciate that.
- 18:13Appreciate you man. Thank you for saying such and
- 18:16yeah so you can your you mentioned your solitary
- 18:21practitioner or, you know, you kind of stick to yourself with
- 18:24it. Is it is it just an again?
- 18:25If I'm asking questions that are a bit too personal, you don't
- 18:28care to answer then just say I'm going to, you know, table that
- 18:31or whatever. But is it is it out of choice or
- 18:33just because of the area that you're in.
- 18:35That there's there's less or 20 that you're aware of or that
- 18:38you're aware of other pagans of like mind, you know, it's a
- 18:41little, it's mostly by choice. I belong to several Facebook
- 18:45groups, not several, a couple one, being a in Ohio, Pagan
- 18:51group where I'm at Norse Pagan group and there's plenty out
- 18:55there. There's plenty of us out there
- 18:57especially that are like-minded. The don't distort and manipulate
- 19:01our religion for nefarious purposes.
- 19:04If you know what I mean, and many inclusive groups.
- 19:09I just I'm very driven, I'm very passionate my Here is very
- 19:14important to me. My family is very important to
- 19:16me and I love the community but maybe someday when life settles
- 19:21down a little bit I'll join a kindred or a tribe and actually
- 19:27practice with some other heathens but for now I'm content
- 19:30the way it is. That's great.
- 19:33I like how you said, you know, certain groups that that twist
- 19:39or manipulate things. I recently got told that I
- 19:43twisted the law R22, I forget what the exact words were.
- 19:48But that people had to watch out for what I said because I twist
- 19:52The lure to my own. I don't know benefit or
- 19:55something. I'm like it's stories first of
- 19:56all, it's mythology. How do you know?
- 19:59Whatever. I guess.
- 19:59If I tell the story My in my own way, I give if I give Thor, New
- 20:03York, Brooklyn accent. I guess.
- 20:05I'm twisting the, you know, I guess I'm twisting the Lord.
- 20:08But, you know, there's always a weird.
- 20:10You're also told that your gatekeeping information by
- 20:13providing information. Yeah.
- 20:17And I like it works. But you learn something new
- 20:21about yourself apparently. So there you go, guys.
- 20:25I'm a gatekeeping by providing information on things.
- 20:27So there's a new one for you. Yeah, yeah.
- 20:29Well, some could argue that story, may have manipulated the
- 20:32Lord to so, you know, oh yeah. The biggest one of them.
- 20:35All right, but he's the guy that we were supposed to, you know.
- 20:39Quote-unquote use as a source material.
- 20:43Right? Right.
- 20:47Let's so yeah. I mean, I think, you know, Josh,
- 20:50you're out there in the Kings Mountain area of North Carolina.
- 20:54And, you know, Papa, you're in the Blue Ridge and Richard your
- 20:59You want to Richard. Actually, if you want to unmute
- 21:00and mention your, in Kentucky, we mentioned before, but you've
- 21:03gotten yourself if you have a kindred or sorcerer or at least
- 21:08you did at one point in time. Maybe.
- 21:09Yeah, further than he did. It one time we had some issues I
- 21:14won't get into but right currently got a start of a new
- 21:18one but I also have the Facebook groups.
- 21:21So And which anybody free to join them is all about putting
- 21:30knowledge out there. We don't twist, we put knowledge
- 21:32on had discussions. So if that's your into groups
- 21:35and we have the video chats every other week or try to
- 21:39anyway. You know, my work schedule,
- 21:41which has been crazy here lately.
- 21:43Sure and well, that's all of us, right?
- 21:46I mean like we all have our own separate lives and that's that's
- 21:49one of the things I wanted to just again.
- 21:52Really Thank each of you for because you all have your own
- 21:54lives, we are all in different time zones.
- 21:56And you, you found time to make to come on here and talk about
- 22:01stuff, you know, with me. And then for everybody to listen
- 22:04to and hopefully make it a beneficial thing for those that
- 22:07are, you know, Finding their way and even re and Order paganism
- 22:11in general because we're all, you know, all of us are probably
- 22:14identify if we want to call it as Norse pagans or at least to
- 22:18some degree have that you know. I would eat them at the
- 22:23aesthetic, the approach to how we see the world, Our World
- 22:26Views Echo, similar ways, but we all practice things differently,
- 22:30you know, some of us are maybe a bit more animistic.
- 22:32Some of us are a bit more. I mean, I don't know, just, you
- 22:36know, various ways of doing things but we've at least met on
- 22:41on some common ground and that's a nice thing.
- 22:43I think that, you know, social media offers is it gives people
- 22:46the opportunity to discuss and share ideas, and then if you
- 22:51know it fits it fits. And if It doesn't then the it
- 22:53doesn't have to be, you know, we don't have to feel that you know
- 22:58every Norse Pagan group out here is something we have to be a
- 23:01part of and I for one and pretty select in careful with which
- 23:07ones I joined. Just because again it can
- 23:10consume us, it takes up so it can just take up so much of our
- 23:13time and take our Focus away from what's really important,
- 23:17you know, our hearts, our homes, Our Lives, you know, and I'm the
- 23:22same way. And I'm very selective about the
- 23:25group's, you know, much like, Brian, you know, I'm a little
- 23:28bit of a solitary as well, and you get in some of those groups.
- 23:34And sometimes, I just shake my head at the argument that's
- 23:38happening and, and the bizarreness that's going on in
- 23:42them. And I'm like, you know, this is,
- 23:44it's not why I am the way I am. And I'm here for, you know, he's
- 23:48an respect for, you know, one brother to another its it's some
- 23:53of them get a little out of hand for me to man, so I'm very, very
- 23:56selective in. What is the sorry?
- 24:00Go ahead, good. No, I was just saying, you know
- 24:01and you know, with both my outdoor business surrounded, you
- 24:06know, some Norse paganism and then obviously, you know, my
- 24:09musical project as well. I'd like to be in those groups
- 24:12so that I could share that. But, you know, you always have
- 24:16that one in there, just got something to say and it's like,
- 24:19no matter what, what what is this.
- 24:22If you can think of it, probably the most I don't know off the
- 24:26wall argument or thing that you were either a part of or that
- 24:30you just saw and you go man on this.
- 24:31Is it I'm out because it just is there anyone that stands out in
- 24:35your mind? Well, for me, it's some of the
- 24:38ones I've seen is where, you know, someone's trying to say
- 24:40they're more Pagan and another person.
- 24:42It's like a man is to each their own and at what level they want
- 24:48to go down this path. And so for me to sit there and
- 24:51watch someone One, you know, criticize somebody because you
- 24:55know they do it differently. I mean it's it just gives me a
- 24:59headache and then it disappoints me, you know, a little bit there
- 25:03to see it. That's usually when I start
- 25:06seeing that in a group, it's just me when I'm like, all
- 25:07right, I'm out. You're not taking enough to be
- 25:11here or something. Alright, I had a guy recently
- 25:18and and I actually kind of like the the the back-and-forth
- 25:21engagement that I get from this one.
- 25:22Regular fella. I guess it's fella on the
- 25:26Facebook Fate on the on the midgard, musings, Facebook page,
- 25:31this thing behind me this this Banner behind me.
- 25:35He made a comment. He's like you know that's not a
- 25:37that that has that at. That's not nor so, right?
- 25:39It's sunk so low manic. It's got Solomon, you know,
- 25:46Hebrew Kabbalah is Amman and everything.
- 25:50I'm like, yeah, I know doesn't matter though.
- 25:52It was a gift and it was a gift from a friend and it's been here
- 25:55for a long time and it's going to Island by the way.
- 25:57I also know that the rooms that are going around, it are out of
- 26:01order it a little bit and that there's a blend of both Elder
- 26:04younger and Anglo-Saxon rooms on there too.
- 26:06So I get it. But what's your point?
- 26:09You know, I, you know, right, it's kind of like, I guess into
- 26:13whatever degree, you know, it's engagement and that's how I look
- 26:16at it from. That's how I look at it from a
- 26:19lot of angles is that I'm Getting engagement as a content.
- 26:23Creator engagement is is everything.
- 26:26So, hey, you know, that any press is good.
- 26:29Press I guess if you want to look at it in that sort of way
- 26:32and I'm not, you know, I'm not, I'm not out here, trying to bend
- 26:37anybody's, you know, approach to heat and rear or paganism.
- 26:41To be my version of it. It's just information, sharing
- 26:44and knowledge and stuff. And I thought, you know what,
- 26:46I'm still learning to and that's what a lot of this is about is
- 26:49just sharing of knowledge and getting to learn some things,
- 26:51you know. And we have a new, we have it,
- 26:54we have it. I'm just going to pause real
- 26:55quick because we have a another guest that just joined the
- 26:59podcast, we are recording. So this guy here, he's actually
- 27:04been on several podcast with me. One of which was while he came
- 27:07out to Tennessee to visit from Missouri.
- 27:10Welcome to the chat Patrick Walsh, my friend in your ass.
- 27:19How's it going? There he is.
- 27:24Thanks for joining man. How you feeling?
- 27:27Not too bad, just getting ready for the holidays and this
- 27:32brutally cold weather, which I know you're very excited about.
- 27:37Yeah, well we were just we were all just talking and I'll get
- 27:42into introductions and stuff a little bit, you know, after the
- 27:44fact as we already kind of got into the meat and potatoes, but
- 27:46we got we got Papa all of us in here.
- 27:49Got Josh from school, go to my or we've got a new guy guest on
- 27:53here is name is Brian. We got Richard Bissell up in
- 27:55Kentucky and now we got you. So you know, we got the whole as
- 27:58they said when I was a kid. We got the whole family here.
- 28:03The whole damn family. Yeah, so it's great.
- 28:08That you could join Patrick. You've been.
- 28:11I said, a long time supporter of the channel.
- 28:14Even before I started doing the podcast, I think you were one of
- 28:16the very like, very First few hundred people to subscribe and
- 28:22start watching my videos on the YouTube channel and it's great
- 28:25that you're still around that you've, you know, come out and
- 28:28visited me here in Tennessee and got to be on a podcast in
- 28:31person. And now here you are on the
- 28:33season 3 finale. So, good to have you back here.
- 28:41So we were just talking, just to kind of bring you up to speed
- 28:44about practicing Henry having, you know, solitary Roaches to
- 28:49hear than re Brian is a guy that's you know chooses to
- 28:53practice is self. And you know Josh over here is
- 28:57in North Carolina and same thing.
- 28:59You know and we all find ourselves that way I think at
- 29:02least at some point in time I am fortunate to have a small
- 29:06network of people in my area that I've been able to grow
- 29:10really close to and with, as an extension of my inner circle, my
- 29:15inner Hearth. So they're like family, and from
- 29:17that. From those relationships have
- 29:20blossomed. The growth of our tribe 30 folk
- 29:23people of the Thundering storm. So you know it's a one thing I
- 29:30was thinking of is you know with social media.
- 29:32It's a lot of the reason why we're all here together on this
- 29:37episode is because of social media you know.
- 29:40So it definitely has its benefits and if it's leverage
- 29:45and properly and you know then officially I think it can work
- 29:49Wonders. It Can it can be the start of a
- 29:51really good thing for us in our respective spiritual growth or
- 29:57our religious growth, you know. Because you know Make those
- 30:00friends like you know that way anymore it's you know, used to
- 30:03be you would just know the people in your immediate town or
- 30:06surrounding areas and now we've got this wild and crazy social
- 30:11network networks and we can do stuff like this so it's pretty
- 30:16cool. Like that like a virtual Hoff?
- 30:20Yeah. Yeah.
- 30:21In a way. I like that turn.
- 30:24You know the Hoff was a was a central kind of Temple.
- 30:30If you want to call it as such in Scandinavia uppsala was one
- 30:34that we know of the Heathen Temple or of uppsala old Upsala
- 30:40Sweden. And, you know, it was that the
- 30:43central Gathering Place for the public to come and honor
- 30:50venerate worship their old gods. They Add very specific things
- 30:53that were done at certain and specific times in Upsala.
- 30:59I think it's Adam of Bremen who? Yeah.
- 31:02Documented the nine-year sacrifices.
- 31:05And some of the themes that were done up in the net area and what
- 31:09it was like which you know, we were kind of talking around and
- 31:13about earlier about you know, Source material, you know,
- 31:17somebody mentioned snore. I think I might have been you
- 31:19Josh or Brian one of his growing mentioned.
- 31:22Snorri sturluson, you know, and then and how much people tend to
- 31:27try to call him or use him as a source material.
- 31:30And I say, you know, one of the one thing that that's, that's
- 31:34really wild. I think that, I like to think
- 31:36about with history, any kind of historical stuff.
- 31:38If you're going to take that kind of an approach has history
- 31:41has always been twisted and bent to, you know, make a certain
- 31:48like, you know, yeah, there's a historical facts of whatever.
- 31:50But the person who documented It is the historian, The Scholar,
- 31:54the whoever it was that documented it there.
- 31:56They're going to have the sum of their bias leaking to in tell
- 32:01ya. So at the end of the day it's
- 32:03kind of like why are we even why are we even going that far back?
- 32:10Why are we trying to reconstruct at times things that were done
- 32:14in ancient times when we're here.
- 32:17Now, in modern times, why do we find the need to do that?
- 32:24You think anybody can feel free to chime in?
- 32:27But it's it was a question that I was asking myself.
- 32:31You know, why what what what about the past and Nemours, us
- 32:35so much that we want to recreate it or reconstruct it.
- 32:38Well, you know, right? I think if I could, I think it
- 32:42leads. It gives some people a sense of
- 32:45credibility to what they believe, I guess.
- 32:49Maybe like like the Bible would to Christians.
- 32:52It's it's something that's very, very old that has documentation.
- 32:58And but the reality is in our, in our faith, there's there
- 33:02really isn't a lot of source material and the source material
- 33:07that there is Is can it truly be trusted based on who who wrote
- 33:12it when it was written, they're biased and their views.
- 33:17And I think that the great thing, one of the things that
- 33:20really attracted to me when I was searching for my faith was
- 33:25the fact that that Heathen read Norse paganism, whatever you
- 33:29want to call it and which is also great because you can refer
- 33:33to it in any way you want. Is it largely up to it?
- 33:38Reputation of the practitioner how and that's I love it in the
- 33:43Facebook groups in the social media when there's arguments of,
- 33:47well, this is the way that you should do it and that's the way
- 33:50you should do it. Because at the end of the day
- 33:53like who who's to say who's right would you know it's not
- 33:58like Catholicism where there's rituals and practices that
- 34:03everybody does because quite frankly much of what we believe.
- 34:08I believe we know was lost to history.
- 34:11So credibility, I think is what people search for when they're
- 34:13looking back to the past that long ago to support their faith
- 34:20and then all of our Social Circles and in social media, and
- 34:25these groups in these Pages, it's always pounded Roots, Roots
- 34:29Roots, so everybody wants to go back.
- 34:32Find those roots, learn about those roots and build up from
- 34:36there, but people get caught up in the roots alone and forget
- 34:41that. We have to have a trunk.
- 34:43You have to have branches and have leaves true.
- 34:46Yeah, this is 2022, not 502. Now so even if you are able to
- 34:54find out 100 percent through whatever, textual information
- 34:58that this is how something was done them, they were living very
- 35:02much. Different lives than what we're
- 35:04living. Now, we're not out here.
- 35:07Farming, and plowing with a stick, we're going to the
- 35:11grocery store. Are there ways to honor old ways
- 35:16and old traditions? But we have to remember that
- 35:18we're leaving now. Yeah.
- 35:26Good. I think it's good.
- 35:28No, the old sources in the for the foundation.
- 35:33But like I said, you know, we are living in 2022.
- 35:35So yeah. Bridge, that Gap to so you know
- 35:40isn't that's your foundation, how I can Foundation of your
- 35:43house. You don't have any foundation is
- 35:45going to be very strong you know you need something.
- 35:49I mean, I had somebody even say that the way I do, I'm going to
- 35:55paraphrase the way they said it. But the, the spirit behind what
- 35:58they were saying, was that along the lines of, You Know, the Way
- 36:04That the old gods were approached and the way that the
- 36:09gods were interacted with, in ancient times, was the way that
- 36:14it worked back then, so how can we expect them to be
- 36:18approachable? Now unless we're doing it the
- 36:21way that it was done back then and not to my, you know, my
- 36:24response to that was I find it hard to believe and again,
- 36:28there's no there's no way to back this up there.
- 36:30Any quote, unquote Source material but I find it hard to
- 36:33believe that as Humanity has evolved and has progressed and
- 36:37has become more Innovative and whatnot over time.
- 36:39That I find it. Very hard to believe that the
- 36:42sacred and that the Divine have not done the same thing to some
- 36:46degree in their own way. Rightly.
- 36:50So sure it might be a bit nostalgic.
- 36:54It's kind of like, you know, when you know and we're all
- 36:56different age, you know, we come from different Generations
- 36:59ourselves here. We got a pretty diverse
- 37:01audience, I think as far as our guests and even listeners out
- 37:04here, you know, we all come from different backgrounds.
- 37:07There's there's things that that will touch our nostalgic parts
- 37:12of ourselves, right? Like I was, I was talking to my
- 37:14wife last week and I was she was asking about like my Family's
- 37:20traditions for celebrating Christmas, which we didn't have
- 37:23any because we I was very, very young when they abandoned the
- 37:28celebration of Christmas because of religious reasons, right?
- 37:31But I have very slight and I have some memories of being a
- 37:34very small kid and then, there were some things, I remember
- 37:36having a Christmas tree and I remember having this one thing.
- 37:38You guys, anybody here, Richard, you might know, Emmett Kelly.
- 37:42Anybody here? Remember Emmett Kelly.
- 37:44He was a, he was a, he was a performer.
- 37:47He was a circus performer and he, he I guess it was a sad
- 37:50clown and he was very he, like, kind of was the, the Trailblazer
- 37:54for a lot of clown performers and stuff.
- 38:00But I remember my dad happened this like figurine, he was about
- 38:04two and a half, maybe three foot tall of Emmett, Kelly his nose
- 38:07with glow and this and that and it started a.
- 38:11It started me going down this memory lane of things that we
- 38:16had around the house that were antique and old.
- 38:19And then Nostalgia kicked in and I go oh wow, and it really
- 38:21touched a certain part of myself that made me happy and made me
- 38:24feel, you know, good. And I think maybe that's kind of
- 38:28the same thing with, you know, again this is my own gnupg but
- 38:33that when you know if you learn Old Norse or if you learn old
- 38:39Saxon, some of these all dead languages that aren't spoken
- 38:42anymore and you speak to the sacred or you do certain
- 38:45ceremonies or rituals in those languages, if it's probably
- 38:49Almost like the same thing or something similar for them in a
- 38:52way like he's speaking my language.
- 38:53Now I remember that from days gone by or wherever and again,
- 38:57that's my own U PG. But I think maybe there's
- 38:59something to think about with that and maybe again, we there
- 39:03there's a part of ourselves that recognizes the how it makes us
- 39:07feel. And we Maybe live that part out
- 39:11in or ceremonial stuff too. something I've noticed I'm
- 39:17sorry, I was going to say I've noticed it's like almost like a
- 39:23conditioning believe that we don't have, like, some kind of
- 39:29like starting point and practices, you know, somewhat
- 39:33did back in the early days that we lose credibility, you know,
- 39:37an interesting thing about other things like, you know,
- 39:41Christianity and Catholicism is, they have a sacred text and it's
- 39:44very Is is created by an old men in power and not release us from
- 39:49the swords of divinity or anything like that.
- 39:55That's a good point. The yes, quote-unquote sacred
- 39:58texts again. It goes back to like, write the
- 40:01the bias I mean, People want to, you know, Christians especially
- 40:06what the Bible says, what the Bible says.
- 40:08Well, the Bible was was written by people who were under the
- 40:11Kings threatening, you know what I mean?
- 40:14So you pretty much had to do with the King said or else, you
- 40:17know what I'm saying? And, you know, you can make the
- 40:20argument or they can make the argument that well, it was
- 40:22divine inspiration. It was, you know, these these
- 40:25holy people who were moved or inspired to speak or write but
- 40:30at the end of the day, like well there were certain things that
- 40:32we know. No, we're left out of what the
- 40:37current publication of the Bible is there's there's books,
- 40:42there's a whole entire, you know, series of texts that were
- 40:47left out of the original manuscripts.
- 40:50Why is that where they less men? Where they were?
- 40:52They less inspired with you know?
- 40:55Yeah. So I do Hussein Hussein, say
- 41:01something next, maybe Papa whoever, I don't know.
- 41:03I was going to say something to eat before we come too far away
- 41:06from snorri, and I don't mean to sway anybody.
- 41:11But in relation to his credibility, John's more you
- 41:14wear. A lot of hats and his dog who
- 41:17serve a lot of positions and different things.
- 41:22But on his credibility and this is a fun story that I learned at
- 41:26the It's Nori staffa in Iceland while visiting their the kind of
- 41:32guy he was, we hear stories from him, that not a lot of about at
- 41:37one point in time, he was serving under a Chieftain there.
- 41:41A couple of Ruffians came to town and decided that they
- 41:45wanted to marry one of them wanted to marry the chief and
- 41:48Slaughter in. This was a problem.
- 41:49He didn't want that. So he consults Nori.
- 41:52What do I do? And the answer was to put them
- 41:55to work. We want this road built through
- 41:57town, what's having to do that, if they want to marry your
- 42:00daughter and see if it works. And it did, they busted bought
- 42:03got it done? Okay, it's time to do it.
- 42:06Well, we lost they built the road, they're going to marry my
- 42:11daughter. He's going to marry my daughter.
- 42:12What do I do? You know, ask them for something
- 42:15even more impossible. We want this this cost bring
- 42:19this sort of Grotto type thing. We've got it nearby but it needs
- 42:22Dugout. Get them in there to did that.
- 42:24And then now you've got a road and something that other people
- 42:27are going to come to bring business to the table, to get
- 42:30some in there to do that didn't think they were going to finish,
- 42:34but they did. And he says, now what the guys
- 42:36are on their way out, they dug this thing.
- 42:40So he takes a big stick and beat them over the head as they're
- 42:44coming out of this hole and ends the whole thing and guess who
- 42:49marries The Chieftains daughter a short time thereafter snoring.
- 42:55He was very about his own, his own rise of his own gain and
- 43:00anything that he was doing and he froze, again, whether it be
- 43:10the stress that you passed down, where the marriages and he was
- 43:18foot but maybe not the most honest.
- 43:22Yeah. So there's, you know, I mean,
- 43:26who is anymore or who was back in the day, you know what I
- 43:30mean? Like there's there's there's a
- 43:32weird dichotomy to this whole concept of, you know, honesty
- 43:37and honor and all of that. It was a different again,
- 43:43different time, 1000 1200 her long years ago, you know, and
- 43:47those things meant something different a little bit back
- 43:50then. You know, like if it meant that
- 43:51you had a lie or Things around for the betterment of your own
- 43:56then. Well, then that was good for you
- 43:58and it was good for your inner. And there was there was I think
- 44:02a an inherent understanding of universes outer.
- 44:05You know, there's maybe nothing of particular ancient Origins
- 44:09about your daughter yard, but it definitely has, you know,
- 44:14Ancient World Views is that, you know, what's within is sacred?
- 44:17What's within is order? What's within is lawful what is
- 44:20within is good? And what is without is subject
- 44:24to To kind of the laws of the Jungle, right, the laws of the
- 44:28wild. It's anything goes.
- 44:31So there's a problem with reliving that or reconstructing
- 44:37that now and today, it's the world's not quite so not, not
- 44:41much like that in a lot of ways anymore, there's a lot of Gray
- 44:45areas. It seems a lot more complicated
- 44:49patients to. Hmm.
- 44:51Yeah, these are different. If you live in an apartment
- 44:54building or an apartment complex, you have no say in who
- 44:57becomes your next door neighbor. Whereas back then you knew
- 45:01exactly who your next door neighbor was because, you know,
- 45:03their family for generations and generations.
- 45:07They were either. Almost land was entrust to your
- 45:10neighbor. As now, your neighbor is more
- 45:12stranger. Yeah.
- 45:15Yeah, Terry Turner he's different but in a gar Gar right
- 45:24now that kind of has a neat segue into a topic that Brian
- 45:27was actually going to is the reason why we wanted to talk
- 45:31about this and it's it goes into some discussion with.
- 45:35I think maybe the bride if you want to take the lead on this
- 45:38but ancestor veneration but also the importance of of the VT R,
- 45:45the land material, whose fatir the localized Spirits that we
- 45:51share space with and coexist with.
- 45:54Yeah, yeah, you know when you when you did the the episode on
- 45:59ancestral veneration, you know it really it it it key to part
- 46:05of my belief that I have had for quite a while and I think that
- 46:10I'm probably like a lot of new heathens.
- 46:13When I was new, you know, I placed a lot of emphasis on the
- 46:17gods, the aesir, the Vani Odin, you know, I know, I know on
- 46:22social media, a lot of people say that they, you know, have a
- 46:26strong connection with one God or another God.
- 46:29And that's and that's great, that's fine.
- 46:31If that's how they choose to, to practice.
- 46:35But as I've progressed along kind of, in my knowledge and my
- 46:39beliefs and stuff, I found that really commonly overlooked
- 46:44aspect. In our faith is is one the
- 46:48veneration in. Of the of our ancestors who are
- 46:52still with us, even in Death, from helheim, or wherever they
- 46:57may be, that they're, they're still with us.
- 47:02And then also, like you said, the vae tear the, the who's
- 47:05fatir in the land, they tear the the spirits of of the house, the
- 47:09inner dwelling and and of the land in my, in my practice, as a
- 47:14solitary practitioner, I probably give more veneration.
- 47:19Do more ritual in offer, more sacrifice to the vet here, you
- 47:28know, because I believe that they are more invested in my
- 47:32fortune than the gods. I believe that that that the
- 47:36gods are largely selfish. If I could say some of them are
- 47:44very, very self-serving and they would help human beings here on
- 47:49midgard. If, if it served them but our
- 47:52ancestors and the end of a tier are much more invested in us and
- 47:57our well-being and are much more willing to to Aid us and things
- 48:03that we cannot accomplish ourselves, then the gods.
- 48:06Maybe that's, that's why I really wanted to bring up that
- 48:10topic to see which gentleman had this had to say about that and
- 48:13give some insight. That's something that's
- 48:17typically overlooked a lot because, you know, the primary
- 48:20focal point seems to be, you know, the beings of power, you
- 48:24know, like, oh no door Freya, but that's a something.
- 48:27I personally after hearing that would like to take a more closer
- 48:30look at because, you know, I'm kind of one of those guilty
- 48:33people who were, I often the gate and Overlook the moments
- 48:39where I have no spiritual epiphanies, or a special moment
- 48:43is more up than that. With the Lambert's here in,
- 48:45where I see a sacred animal, like a hawk, or a deer, or just
- 48:49the trees themselves, and being an atmosphere where you feel,
- 48:53you could Escape, you know, whatever is bothering you or
- 48:57find this source of inspiration that you've been seeking, you
- 49:00know, and often more awesomer. So often than not, these special
- 49:04moments are something that are organic, it just happens rather
- 49:08than something, you're trying to force like a ritual or, you
- 49:12know, Yeah. I mean I'm gonna jump in here
- 49:20real quick unless anybody else had to say something, you know,
- 49:23there's a, there's a place for it all, you know, there's
- 49:27there's definitely a place and a time for You know, the sacred to
- 49:34be involved and we see this, you know, repeated in again you know
- 49:40we talked about Source material or whatever it was.
- 49:43You know what we do know of, is that when the gods were
- 49:45involved, there were people, there there was a community,
- 49:48there was a Larger Gathering because the gods were tribal,
- 49:53the people were tribal, first of all.
- 49:54So that it makes sense that they would see their higher beings as
- 50:01being structured in the way that their society was structured to,
- 50:05you know, so you had tribes of the Gods, you know?
- 50:07And and the stories reflect the, the lifestyles that People lived
- 50:14back. Then, you know, and the way
- 50:16things were done to for the betterment of the, of the groups
- 50:19and of the society as it were at that time, one of the other
- 50:23things that we do also know of, in some material is that, you
- 50:26know, the localized, God's the house, you to call the history
- 50:31tear another name. For that, that I've seen is
- 50:33cough God, the actual guardian of the home was a deity, a
- 50:38sacred part of the, you know, a spirit of the Sacred that Kind
- 50:45of go with the family, you know. So if they you know left they
- 50:49would it would it would go with them and they would have to kind
- 50:52of set up a its own alter, its own Sacred Space in the home
- 50:56again to you know make it comfortable.
- 51:00And sure that the protection that that that deity offered was
- 51:07Was was was still there and that they would still get those
- 51:10things. And I think we see that now in
- 51:13today with with some of that you say that who's prettier, whether
- 51:17it's how it manifests, how they how they make themselves known,
- 51:23you know over the Whether it's through our little totems or
- 51:28little column Idols or whatever. God pulls, you know, the I've
- 51:33seen some people use kind of like the Nisa Common word is
- 51:40gnome or that sort of thing. They they more like they they
- 51:50have stayed EFI but they put they put their the sacred being
- 51:55into the form of something. Whether it's again, a god, polar
- 51:58whatever. And then that's their focal
- 51:59point and that's who they Gift to regularly offer to regularly.
- 52:05So, as to make sure that the area that they live in is
- 52:11protected and well kept. And then, of course, the fates
- 52:16here of the land, are those living entities that exist in
- 52:21the spirit of the wild around us?
- 52:23You know, like Patrick saying, you know, the Hawks the, you
- 52:27know, the various spirits that we all share.
- 52:31Space with go ahead. Papa, I was rambling on a
- 52:33visited thing. That caught me that they all
- 52:37share is that We engage in exchange with them, throughout
- 52:45ritual, or offering, or whatever it is.
- 52:47We do set up an altar or place, or recognize and acknowledge, or
- 52:53spend time with them, it's all an exchange in an exchange is
- 52:56relationship. And relationship to me.
- 53:00I think is the most fundamental part in practice when it comes
- 53:04to any sort of veneration, whether it be your ancestors,
- 53:08the land will tear of useful to you.
- 53:12So on it's it's a working relationship.
- 53:18It definitely is. And I like to think of
- 53:22Relationships. As you know, sometimes you have
- 53:27good ones and sometimes you have bad ones even even with people
- 53:31right? And I don't think that we could
- 53:33maybe neglect the that possibility with the Unseen,
- 53:39right things that we don't have a Visions.
- 53:41What year are neglected, they become spiteful and all the
- 53:44sudden you've got things falling over or out of place and all
- 53:48kinds of stories that reflect that Yeah.
- 53:51Have you guys anybody here like in, have you ever had an
- 53:54experience like that? I do.
- 53:55But I don't want to be the first one to say.
- 53:57Have you guys ever had an experience?
- 53:59Where, you know, you felt like your this fatir were maybe
- 54:04feeling a little bit neglected? Yeah, usually my stuff
- 54:10disappears around here when we forget about them or start
- 54:13feeling neglected. Randomly, you know.
- 54:25I have on myself, we have what 233 Alters inside and one
- 54:30outside now. So, so you forget about your,
- 54:36you neglect, your his fatir and then they take some things or
- 54:38whatever he is that what you're saying?
- 54:40Yeah, I think that that I've experienced it before.
- 54:52Looking back, but not so much since I became a follower of the
- 54:59faith, looking back on my life, I could see where I had
- 55:04experiences like that, you know, but I'm fairly diligent in in
- 55:10honoring. I have several altars in my
- 55:12house, too, and outside, spend a lot of time outside both in the
- 55:19yard and in my workshop. And I have Small places to make
- 55:23offerings all the time so I try not to be a neglectful mortal.
- 55:35About you, Josh, you're talking too much.
- 55:40Sorry there. Oh man, you know it say man, you
- 55:44know, I have some Alters as well.
- 55:46And I spent a lot of time Outdoors to reconnect as much as
- 55:50I can. And you know, this year for me,
- 55:55you know, Macy, musically side, things have been going great.
- 55:59But personal was, you know, I've been going through troubles like
- 56:02anyone else and I tell you something that really kind of
- 56:05Hit me hard this year, was I've been going through a lot.
- 56:10Of stuff and then my son's 14th birthday.
- 56:16I had to put his beloved dog down on his birthday and we've
- 56:21had that dog for literally 13 years and I think I even had
- 56:27made a post. I was like what did I do to to
- 56:30endure this? You know, and I had to sit back
- 56:32a minute and think on myself like and I've have been so
- 56:36focused on so much other things and I felt like that was it Go
- 56:40call for me that I had to kind of sit back because that hurt
- 56:43and it was a it was a really hard day you not only for myself
- 56:47but my family you know especially my son.
- 56:49This was his dog. So yeah man that I think that
- 56:52one was a little bit of the wake-up call for me is like, hey
- 56:55man, you just kind of been away for a little bit.
- 56:57So I take it the way I cared and and move forward.
- 57:03Thanks for sharing that that of intimate moment, you know, like
- 57:07that's that's powerful. And at and it opens a window to,
- 57:13you know, our souls that are it opens up a vulnerable part of
- 57:17ourselves, you know when we share stories like that so
- 57:21thanks for sharing. It was a you know we're all men
- 57:25here been at my son. My son looked at me.
- 57:28He's like Dad, I don't I don't think I've ever seen cry
- 57:31playing. I'm like who knew it would take
- 57:34a freckled Little Chihuahua to make this happen but you know
- 57:38but it was a lot man. It was like said As a lot of
- 57:40things had been going on with my life and when I had to do that
- 57:45moment, it just all hit me at once and I was like, wow, it's,
- 57:50you know, and I did ended up that weekend.
- 57:51I spent a lot of time outside, man.
- 57:53And reconnected trying to find myself, you know, a little bit
- 57:57more. Yeah.
- 58:00Takes that time, you know, something, you know, it does it
- 58:03sometimes, it's it's that's what's needed.
- 58:07You know, one particular thing that I remember happening and it
- 58:13was a so we have, like, I think a lot of us, do we have pets,
- 58:16you know, house pets and it may not necessarily be this for
- 58:21every everybody but for us, you know, our they tear our
- 58:28Manifested in a lot of the way, a lot of times through the
- 58:32animals in our home, you know. So, if the animals in the home
- 58:36or upset, it's a for us, at least here.
- 58:39It's a reflection into the, the state of the home itself, you
- 58:42know, like kind of use that as a gauge, you know, and try to do
- 58:46the best we can to make sure that they're comfortable, that
- 58:48they're taking care of that they're treated well and that
- 58:51they're, you know, loved and all that.
- 58:53And as as a general rule, we keep a pretty peaceful, you know
- 58:58about And I like to think that it's, you know, our work as
- 59:02people but also recognizing and acknowledging.
- 59:06The the Unseen that manifest itself through the scene, you
- 59:09know, through these, you know, spirits that week that we
- 59:12coexist within that medicine manifest themselves.
- 59:14I remember this one time, I had some, I don't know spices, our
- 59:19seasonings or something out on our counter and they were, there
- 59:23was something going on. I don't even remember the exact
- 59:26circumstances but there was some turmoil.
- 59:28All right, and in the spices that were on the counter just
- 59:32got tipped over and pushed off of the off of the counter space.
- 59:37And I'm like, you know, these were jars of spices like like
- 59:40not like Savory spices, like hot like capsaicin spices, like
- 59:44Reaper stuff. You know, I really spicy things
- 59:47and it just go like randomly knocked over and just rolled off
- 59:51the thing. I'm like, why, you know, like
- 59:54there was no physical presence that I The obviously that that
- 59:59could have gone over there and just knocked over a jar of
- 1:00:03Reaper flakes, you know? And I'm like, hmm, you know?
- 1:00:07And and again our Roo are things like that all the time meant to
- 1:00:12be signs or Omens. I don't think so.
- 1:00:14You know, one of the things I see a lot of the time is, you
- 1:00:19know, people automatically think that if they see a pair of crows
- 1:00:22flying over them that it's happen or they, you know, they
- 1:00:24they they ate they try to like, I don't know if it's for First.
- 1:00:29Or if they just a, you know, crows.
- 1:00:30Do. What crows?
- 1:00:31Do you know and birds? Do others.
- 1:00:33Do and all the wild does with the wild does and it doesn't
- 1:00:35necessarily mean that every single time.
- 1:00:37You see that particular thing that it's an omen or a sign.
- 1:00:42But there are times when it could and it might, but it lies
- 1:00:46on that person in what's going on for that individual or what's
- 1:00:51happening in their lives. If whether or not the sign is
- 1:00:54there, to be seen, because what happens for one person is meant
- 1:00:58for that Person or for those people it's not always going to
- 1:01:00be the same for everybody. So you know for me at that
- 1:01:04particular time that was a sign that was an omen that I read is
- 1:01:07saying. There's somebody's not happy
- 1:01:09here, right? You're making a mess there,
- 1:01:12kicking things over in there and there and they're making
- 1:01:14themselves known as hey, you got some work to do here.
- 1:01:18There's, we're not happy, right? You know, I love how you you
- 1:01:24brought up the crow reference Manning and I'm on the opposite
- 1:01:27side of that Spectrum. Remand if I see crows and
- 1:01:30ravens. I'm like ecstatic.
- 1:01:33I just get, I get it. Like, brings joy to me to
- 1:01:36observe them in nature and listen to him talk, you know,
- 1:01:39like last weekend being my wife were doing a vending and we were
- 1:01:44set up outside. And I watched, I watched a group
- 1:01:47of crows, just fighting over a piece of bread.
- 1:01:50And I was just sitting there like laughing like, well, these
- 1:01:52creepy, you know, but dinners the people that are, you know,
- 1:01:54they think it did brings all bad luck, but I'm totally opposite,
- 1:01:58man. I just exactly watching them and
- 1:02:00love hearing them talk to each other, you know.
- 1:02:05I got a raven at worth it every day at lunchtime.
- 1:02:08He's out there waiting on me back by with area.
- 1:02:11I work in I go out back to smoke and that's not where he's been
- 1:02:14in there for about. I guess our little over a year
- 1:02:17now I've been every day I take my lunch and get shared with
- 1:02:21him. He's got you on the clock man.
- 1:02:24He knows what they're super smart man.
- 1:02:28Oh you know, I go ahead, go ahead.
- 1:02:32I had a pipe Crow. You as a pet for a good while
- 1:02:36had adopted her? She was about seven years old
- 1:02:38when I adopted her man. And after, you know, having that
- 1:02:42as a pet, I really got to see just how intelligent those
- 1:02:46creatures are. The funny thing is, she became
- 1:02:49my guard Birdman. No one in the family, nor my
- 1:02:52wolf dog could come in the room. If I was in the room and she was
- 1:02:55out because she would just attack everybody, but me, but,
- 1:02:59uh, she was, she was great to have man.
- 1:03:01We play games. I would try to hide quarters and
- 1:03:04stuff. Don't you?
- 1:03:04Just go find them and bring them back and I would, I would sit
- 1:03:08there with a guitar and with work on riffs and she would run
- 1:03:11up and down the Fret. Helping me play man.
- 1:03:13They're they're very interesting birds man.
- 1:03:15You know that I grew up with a mom that like parrots.
- 1:03:18And you know, and haven't heard was like a whole nother thing
- 1:03:22and they need a lot, they love attention.
- 1:03:25So that's just something cool. Yeah, they have that ability to
- 1:03:31also, like I mentioned parrots, like, corvus the birds, they,
- 1:03:35they have that ability to mimic speech and and stuff.
- 1:03:40Yeah, yes she would see, I told her how I taught her how to
- 1:03:46death metal Grail, which was It's, you know, again I live on
- 1:04:24a river. Basically, close to the to the
- 1:04:25Stones Rivers, you know? So is it uncommon to see herons
- 1:04:29Here? There and Everywhere?
- 1:04:31No, but when I see one, it doesn't really even matter where
- 1:04:35they are. I just get all giddy and excited
- 1:04:37because there's, there's, there's a, there's a spiritual
- 1:04:39connection that I have with the Heron, you know?
- 1:04:43So for again, it's I think each individual experiences is meant
- 1:04:47for Those people and forth or for that, for that person.
- 1:04:52That's not meant for others, you know.
- 1:04:54I think Patrick, you even have some similar things with it with
- 1:04:57with the hawk. I think it's the four years
- 1:05:00recently for me, it's been the out, the deer.
- 1:05:04Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:05:05There's been this sacred place. I've been frequenting for cheese
- 1:05:09about over before I started actually pursuing you know Norse
- 1:05:13paganism but I'll really started to To engage in this path and
- 1:05:19really, you know, applied to my life.
- 1:05:21The more I came to this place the more special became and I
- 1:05:25would always see these deer. And when I was younger I always
- 1:05:29thought they were kind of skittish, but then when I really
- 1:05:32stepped outside that stereotype of really start to really see
- 1:05:35them more. As like, you know, the chest
- 1:05:37creatures. And the who is also a symbol of
- 1:05:48of all sacredness and now obviously this place for so
- 1:05:56long, I finally found a deer carcass I'd like six months
- 1:06:03before. I finally had the privilege of
- 1:06:05are collecting a deer skull and then I'll some other phones to
- 1:06:09sit upon my altar actually really quick.
- 1:06:11I'll show you guys my dearest call that I got right over here.
- 1:06:16I'm not sure if you can see it or not.
- 1:06:18Yeah, yeah. It's a good Shake That Thang
- 1:06:25you. It also see mentioned the Hawks
- 1:06:27to though that's always been something anytime.
- 1:06:29I see what actually it's like is today when I went to Walmart to
- 1:06:32get some mom's some gifts, I see this hawk flying over and this
- 1:06:37immediately I stopped and I was doing this like, oh, gosh, hello
- 1:06:40Mia. Alex.
- 1:06:41This is very special though. For me, it's, it's bald eagles.
- 1:06:48I live in an area where there they're coming back and, and I
- 1:06:52see one just about every day. I'll see one and it might be the
- 1:06:56same one, because they have quite a huge territory.
- 1:06:59But every day, I see it and I just, I get filled with joy.
- 1:07:04I'd love to see him, you know, for one, I find like a spiritual
- 1:07:09connection to it, but for another just knowing that at
- 1:07:13least, that part of nature is Back in this area, you know,
- 1:07:17we're, we're starting to get otters back.
- 1:07:20I saw mink the other day, so we're starting to get those.
- 1:07:23The red foxes are coming back. So, you know, in this area that
- 1:07:27I live on, right, right by Lake Erie.
- 1:07:29We're really, really blessed and fortunate to have a lot of the
- 1:07:32spirits of the land coming back and thriving.
- 1:07:36And whatnot is really is really great to see That is awesome.
- 1:07:42Quiet Lake Erie. Yep.
- 1:07:45Yep, but too far away from there, let's go.
- 1:07:49Your, we don't, we don't have bald eagles too much here in the
- 1:07:53Carolinas, they're here, but they're rare, and I actually for
- 1:07:58my outdoor business back over to summer, had took a group out
- 1:08:02kayaking and one flew over. And I almost had a panic attack
- 1:08:06because I was like, I have never never seen one are two.
- 1:08:09I never seen them. Till I got into Midwest.
- 1:08:12So see you in the mirror in the Carolinas and for him to be
- 1:08:14flying over the river while I was, you know, giving these
- 1:08:17people a Toro and how they kayak down a river.
- 1:08:19It was, it was amazing. See that?
- 1:08:21They're beautiful creatures. Yeah. but you Papa This is like
- 1:08:32your leg that mean you live. It it's you know I feel like
- 1:08:37come and go on they change I've made connections with lots of
- 1:08:44different animals in different times when there's been
- 1:08:48something along my path that I needed to to learn or to work
- 1:08:52on. And sometimes it's presented by
- 1:08:55the elk or fox or the hall. But I think the one that has
- 1:09:01stayed throughout and is the Raven, I actually have that
- 1:09:05tattooed on my head here. That's what you stayed for me,
- 1:09:11throughout my entire life and journey in.
- 1:09:15More of a companionship in that relationship by Spirit than just
- 1:09:20acquaintances or familiarity that you might find.
- 1:09:23As you have these encounters your experiences with other
- 1:09:27spirits, that have something to keychain the show at the time.
- 1:09:35Yeah. And I mean, there's, you know,
- 1:09:37myself, you know, thanks to your handiwork, you know, the drum
- 1:09:43that's, you know, right here in the back, the small one, that's
- 1:09:47a bison, skin drum, I have the big one that you guys can see
- 1:09:51kind of partially behind me here.
- 1:09:52That's made of goat and and the rattle that is kind of poking.
- 1:10:00Its It's hammer head above the Bison.
- 1:10:03Drum is made of bear. Skin, ya know.
- 1:10:06And so there's, there's all different kinds of things that
- 1:10:09when we, you know, for at least for me, you know, when, when we
- 1:10:14use these these instruments, when we use these tools, when
- 1:10:17we, when we incorporate these items into our into our
- 1:10:22practices, it's you almost can't help.
- 1:10:26But kind of drift into this trance like state of of
- 1:10:31connecting with the spirit of that animal and Everything that
- 1:10:35it means, you know, I mean, sure, my philia is a heron and
- 1:10:39for my spirit work that's that's the form that I take for those
- 1:10:43types of activities. But, you know, the ferocity of
- 1:10:49the bear and the tenacity of the bison and the, the agility of
- 1:10:55the goat. I mean, just all these things
- 1:10:56that you can come up with and think of when you I don't know
- 1:11:02partake of their their remains. You know, and then this way,
- 1:11:05it's a really a wild thing. And I mentioned early on the
- 1:11:08podcast before some, you came on about animism for me in my
- 1:11:14growth and in my, you know, progression in Heathen, re so
- 1:11:17much of where I've gravitated toward towards over.
- 1:11:21The years, has led me down this path of animism and connecting
- 1:11:27with the spirits of the land that I codes, you know, exist
- 1:11:30with and and around and it's and it's become such a wholesome.
- 1:11:34Lifestyle with that that I didn't have to force, it was
- 1:11:38just already there and it was just ready to be tapped into,
- 1:11:42don't know how you guys have experienced that.
- 1:11:45But it sounds like from everybody's comments that
- 1:11:48there's a little bit of that element.
- 1:11:52Yeah. And all of us still.
- 1:11:55Very awesome. And really cool is I think about
- 1:11:59the weeks leading up to what I was going to go visit you, I
- 1:12:02remember how I was telling you all City pick.
- 1:12:04When I go my little walks around my leg and I be like oh Jesse
- 1:12:08check this out. I see this Herring really cool
- 1:12:13is like the spirit of be was there.
- 1:12:15You know, preparing a getting me, ready to make that journey
- 1:12:18to come visit. You that Association in that?
- 1:12:24That's pure with me when I go please, you know, nature walks,
- 1:12:27you know. I remember that, I remember you
- 1:12:31sharing that with me before you came out here and it was an old
- 1:12:35For the both of us, in a way you shared it with me and I said,
- 1:12:38you know, I'm just there to making sure you're alright,
- 1:12:40making sure you're ready for the journey, you know, it was like
- 1:12:43kind of a neat thing that, you know, you had that, you know,
- 1:12:46Association that you kind of put towards me.
- 1:12:48And I course felt that as well. And so yeah it's stuff like that
- 1:12:54that, you know, these types of meetings, these types of
- 1:12:57engagements, you know, start with a conversation or a
- 1:13:01friendship over long distance and then who knows what it can
- 1:13:04be. Um, I mean you know, Josh you up
- 1:13:06there in the Kings Mountain, recently had a chance to, you
- 1:13:10know, share in in in in a personal relation of meeting
- 1:13:14with a lot of really good people, Papa's fluted, you know,
- 1:13:18all the included then. And that was very wholesome for
- 1:13:24me and when and how did it all start you know, right, well a
- 1:13:30lot of it had to do with you, you know I meant pop up through
- 1:13:34you. Indian me and Papa started,
- 1:13:37engaging the conversation and he invited me into his home and and
- 1:13:41I bet a lot of his friends and now I have more people, I can
- 1:13:44call friends and you know down here like me and Brian have both
- 1:13:50in the same situation of being in solitary, man.
- 1:13:52It it was nice to be around kindred spirits and I honestly
- 1:13:58man I was the biggest smile. I think I've had on my face in a
- 1:14:00long time and someone at your captured a picture of us.
- 1:14:04With some cigars in the be small and it was like no one ever.
- 1:14:07Captures a picture of me smiling.
- 1:14:09Like I didn't catch the I didn't even see any profit shares.
- 1:14:12It I'm like, dang you papa the beer?
- 1:14:19Has it? You know.
- 1:14:25It makes me want to go back by Big Beard.
- 1:14:27I had he's so he's like Saruman over here Gandolfini.
- 1:14:35I know I just I just trimmed mine too, and I'm feeling bad
- 1:14:38about it. I'm in the company of such great
- 1:14:41beards and then I'm over here, just like nothing.
- 1:14:46Well, you know, I got all this to ya, make up for it, but
- 1:14:53you're just, you're just, you're probably got you.
- 1:14:56You probably got it all black, braided down your chest and
- 1:14:58everything to I bet you wildebeest or something, and
- 1:15:03he's got his back. Braided Dan my back.
- 1:15:09Tell me about it. That's why he likes the bald
- 1:15:14eagle. I think the reason why I tend to
- 1:15:28lean towards the so much you know as we're having this
- 1:15:32conversation is kind of Current to me that there because the
- 1:15:38representation of these land material within the animals, and
- 1:15:42the land, and the trees and the rocks and everything.
- 1:15:46It's a, it's a tangible representation of the spirit
- 1:15:49world. It's something that I can see
- 1:15:51that I can touch in some cases, you know.
- 1:15:54And maybe that makes it easier for me to find a connection to
- 1:16:01rather than the mystical That we cannot see with our eyes, you
- 1:16:07know? That kind of just want to share
- 1:16:09that thought, is that occurred to me?
- 1:16:13Good, that's a good observation. I really respected a fire that
- 1:16:20too, because it's kind of one of the reasons I don't really like
- 1:16:24go to Odin that much as I hold it as a very sacred, you know,
- 1:16:27time. And, you know, I love it.
- 1:16:30When a really feel to invest myself fully rather than the
- 1:16:34day-to-day and mundane would be more appropriate to go towards
- 1:16:38you all the land, it's here for, you know, the house, you know.
- 1:16:43Oh yeah. And it's you know, to like I
- 1:16:44think Brian mentioned it earlier, it's there more, you
- 1:16:48know, there's a, there's one thing I've been thinking of this
- 1:16:50whole time and I'm just, I can't remember the exact stanza or the
- 1:16:55exact Saga, but I want to say, it is in The Saga of agiel
- 1:17:02scholar Grimson where the ships that would come in that and
- 1:17:09stuff. They were, they would cover
- 1:17:10those those dragon. Headed things on the front of
- 1:17:14their ships when they would come into Port because it would
- 1:17:17scare, they were they're worried about scaring.
- 1:17:19The they tear, they were worried about scaring the spirits of the
- 1:17:22land and they didn't want to do that because it was bad.
- 1:17:26You know, you know, the vator were there as I protectors and
- 1:17:30Guardians and such. So they had, you know, those
- 1:17:33people had a sense of, you know, being on the good side of the
- 1:17:36material as much as you as much as you could sew it.
- 1:17:39Again, it's more tangible. It's the That we exist within
- 1:17:43around on a day-to-day basis, the gods are in the sacred realm
- 1:17:48and they are not interacting with our day-to-day stuff on a
- 1:17:52personal level, to any degree, you know, and it when it's when
- 1:17:56it's time to engage with the gods, when it's time to appeal
- 1:18:00to the gods, it's done in a very ceremony as way and it's done in
- 1:18:03a very religious way and it's done with other people and it's
- 1:18:06not to say that it can't be done on an individual level.
- 1:18:08Because again, I feel that it can be theirs.
- 1:18:10There may not be specific sources that say it, and We
- 1:18:12already talked about the validity of all that and why we
- 1:18:15feel we need to reference sources, but just as a
- 1:18:18disclaimer, right? Like we know for a fact that
- 1:18:20when the gods were engaged and stuff, it was done in on a
- 1:18:25communal level with with other people.
- 1:18:27Whereas everything else going on day-to-day, you know,
- 1:18:31individually. Perhaps was more localized and
- 1:18:36then and that's with, you know, the the lifestyle that people
- 1:18:40live, it was they were sharing space.
- 1:18:42As with all right, you know, the creatures on the land, all the
- 1:18:46critters, all the problems still honoring that even to this day
- 1:18:51and in more ways than we think and Iceland and not just the
- 1:18:56Icelandic also truer or those the reading in that look.
- 1:19:01If you look at the Icelandic Kroner, their former currency
- 1:19:07on. One side of it, you'll find an
- 1:19:09emblem that features a giant A dragon, an eagle.
- 1:19:20There's one other. I think it's a servant that it's
- 1:19:24a bowl. We are going to bowl a giant and
- 1:19:27an eagle and that goes back to a story that while they were
- 1:19:32sailing before Iceland was settled.
- 1:19:34They attempted to get ship near land to go in and explore.
- 1:19:40But they sailed up and they Chased Away by a giant with an
- 1:19:44iron staff that came down. So we sailed around some more
- 1:19:47and we're chased Away by an eagle and then each of these
- 1:19:50things were the land that's here protecting the island.
- 1:19:53And so they still honor that story and the land was here to
- 1:19:56this day on their currency. It has beautiful Following also
- 1:20:04true. But I mean, the currency is
- 1:20:07therefore for all the people. It's a it's just an agreed-upon
- 1:20:10thing there. It's not If a thing, it's just a
- 1:20:14common belief, they all share. Yeah, they've had they keep some
- 1:20:21of their country's Traditions, their people's Traditions alive
- 1:20:25and just some of the most mundane ways we've gotten away
- 1:20:32from that largely here in North America, you know, I mean, I'm
- 1:20:37glad to hear like, at least with us here today, you know, talking
- 1:20:40about the It's that we in each place on it and like, Brian.
- 1:20:44You know you're saying that, you know, some of the animals that
- 1:20:48have either left the area or have been sparse are returning.
- 1:20:53That's a good sign, that's, that's a good.
- 1:20:56That's a good omen. Something's working something
- 1:20:58that's being done on the, in the, in the background, whoever
- 1:21:01whatever, you know? However, the collective group of
- 1:21:04people, when enough rocks, get thrown into a pond, you know,
- 1:21:10you make enough ripples, you make enough waves, things
- 1:21:13happen. There's, there's this effects,
- 1:21:15they called The Butterfly Effect, whatever.
- 1:21:16But, you know, there's there's a reactionary thing that happens
- 1:21:19and I feel, you know, if one drum is beating, it doesn't
- 1:21:23resonate so loudly. As if 100 drums are beaten and
- 1:21:281000 drums are beaten or or 10,000 feathers are waived and
- 1:21:32it creates this storm or whatever.
- 1:21:35When there's there's one there's more people doing these types of
- 1:21:38things and hopefully conversations like this are
- 1:21:41sparking That that that fire to be ignited and allows stuff like
- 1:21:48what we're talking about to happen, to get us back to a
- 1:21:51point. Again not not retract not to go
- 1:21:55back so far that we're, you know, not being Progressive but
- 1:21:59that we're getting back to a point of a wholesome and
- 1:22:01holistic existence as a species because you know, we've done
- 1:22:07some really wacky shit over the years to ruin a lot of stuff
- 1:22:10man. And maybe some of what this type
- 1:22:13of activity is causing is positive.
- 1:22:18Positive reinforcement, positive action to Make a change and make
- 1:22:23it make it. Make a good difference.
- 1:22:25Least I like to think so. Yeah point you made is a your
- 1:22:30matching and it's like I feel like a lot of people get the
- 1:22:33idea that I'll back in the early days that people have more
- 1:22:37sacred, you know, Union with the gods rather than we do now.
- 1:22:43But I think this sayable partially true but also an
- 1:22:46illusion because I feel like the guys could be more present than
- 1:22:48ever if you know individually or as a Hold that, we make that
- 1:22:53effort to make it, you know, present and more, you know,
- 1:22:56palpable. Well to that point, I would say
- 1:22:59that there's again, it goes back to how the gods were engaged and
- 1:23:04stuff on the communal levels. Because again, it, you know,
- 1:23:07when people get together and make a bun, or make a poster or
- 1:23:11do something, it's it, you know, it resonates louder.
- 1:23:14So you're going to grab the attention more.
- 1:23:17So, you know, so with all of the things that are being done,
- 1:23:20it's, I think again, it Has the same impact or could potentially
- 1:23:25have the same impact. We're trying to.
- 1:23:29We're trying to make a difference here, man.
- 1:23:30Like, we're trying to make good good changes.
- 1:23:32We're trying to write it back to back to, you know, maybe Our
- 1:23:37Roots but but, you know again enforce the good and use those
- 1:23:43known methods to perpetuate that wholesome and that holistic
- 1:23:48approach and give give our give everybody's A chance for a
- 1:23:53better future. And I don't think that it's so
- 1:23:56much a return to Our Roots. I mean, I think a lot of a lot
- 1:24:00of practitioners of the faith come by way of that, but I think
- 1:24:05it's a return to values is what what I think you're saying, you
- 1:24:10know, and much like the animals that I mentioned that are coming
- 1:24:13back around and are starting to flourish again, you know, Norse
- 1:24:18paganism. Heathen re is, is flourishing to
- 1:24:21and All right, I'll I will never ever talk poorly about another
- 1:24:27Faith just because I don't believe in another Faith or
- 1:24:31don't agree with it personally doesn't mean that it's wrong for
- 1:24:35the individual but I will say that other religions in this
- 1:24:39world are having an all-time low participation.
- 1:24:43Christianity people aren't going to church like they used to
- 1:24:48butit's and Judaism, their faithful it.
- 1:24:52Their numbers of their faithful or diminishing.
- 1:24:54While ours are actually flourishing.
- 1:24:57And I think that speaks to the communal aspect of our religion
- 1:25:01to the connection with the land to the connection, to our
- 1:25:04ancestors, the connection to the gods, and the connection to our
- 1:25:08communities, you know. And, and I did mention that I'm
- 1:25:12a solitary practitioner, however, you know, with the use
- 1:25:16of social media and stuff. And I've been able to connect
- 1:25:19with other people on this virtual.
- 1:25:22Will level. And I think that you hit the
- 1:25:24nail on the head, really that were by and large, just trying
- 1:25:31to do good in this world by our families and by our fellow, you
- 1:25:35know, men and women really. And that's what that's what it
- 1:25:39represents to me. Anyways, the increase in this
- 1:25:42faith that by all intents and purposes, should have been wiped
- 1:25:47out from history by you know, the the Christian Asian.
- 1:25:52But for some reason, it survived and here we are in the 21st
- 1:25:57century, you know, following the gods of our ancestors.
- 1:26:06That observation, I just want to point that out and, you know,
- 1:26:08it's really cool. Thank you.
- 1:26:11I would like to touch on the subject while we're going on it.
- 1:26:16The, the influx in the popularity.
- 1:26:18Now that's come along and the mass of people generating the
- 1:26:23gods or a deity. I would love for you to stay
- 1:26:32more versus why, and how it was done in our earliest sources.
- 1:26:36We don't have those same reasons now.
- 1:26:39Prayer. When we talk about who was
- 1:26:43venerated and when and why they were farming communities farming
- 1:26:47culture and crop was life or death, you were either going to
- 1:26:51starve or you were going to make it through the winter in it.
- 1:26:54All depended on your growing season.
- 1:26:56So the veneer for are especially were venerated and offerings
- 1:27:02were made sacrifices were made, but we're not doing that now.
- 1:27:06We're not farming anymore. We're Into the grocery store.
- 1:27:10We're not going out and fighting our next-door, neighbors,
- 1:27:13family, with our family to need to hail tear for victory or Odin
- 1:27:19for War. I mean, we're not walking across
- 1:27:22the chain link fence line with swords and shields.
- 1:27:25I mean, so maybe you're not but now I'm some of us are ready to
- 1:27:33some may want to do that, but we also live in a society with law
- 1:27:38Yeah. All right.
- 1:27:40I mean, I'm headed right for that chain link fence.
- 1:27:43We're civilized now. So, when you're generating the
- 1:27:47gods, are you seeking the gods or you're wanting to make
- 1:27:50offering? Remember to ask yourself why you
- 1:27:53might have intention there? But what is the purpose?
- 1:27:58If this is going to be genuine, if this is going to be
- 1:28:00wholesome, if this is going to be organic, you need to be able
- 1:28:03to answer those things. Yeah, that's a great point.
- 1:28:08That is a really great point in. And also, I'm of the I have the
- 1:28:12idea of the belief that I also asked myself before I ask a
- 1:28:18deity or a spirit for anything, if it's something that is within
- 1:28:23my power to achieve of my own volition.
- 1:28:28And if the answer is yes, that I that I can then I try, I do, I
- 1:28:33try I persevere. Not always, though, you know, I
- 1:28:37have, I have stumbled, I have failed.
- 1:28:40I have asked for help, and then I have succeeded after that.
- 1:28:42So, I do believe that there is much to be said about making
- 1:28:47offerings and, and asking for, for something, a gift for a gift
- 1:28:52though. Yeah, 100%, you know, it's not
- 1:28:57so much. Can you do this for me?
- 1:28:59It's hey, I need a little bit of backup here.
- 1:29:02Your ancestors, come in. Yep.
- 1:29:06Because to that point. Yeah, like exactly, like pop.
- 1:29:08That's where your ancestors come.
- 1:29:09Because they've been here. They are the ones they're the
- 1:29:12reason why we're here. First and foremost, I mean, if
- 1:29:15succeed, yeah, they do, they absolutely do because it goes
- 1:29:20Bay touches back on this particular path.
- 1:29:23And in our The importance that we place of, you know, you
- 1:29:28talked about ancestor veneration, well, why is it such
- 1:29:30a big deal? Why do why do we focus so much
- 1:29:31on it? Well, first of all, again,
- 1:29:34they're the reason why we got here and we want to lay, we want
- 1:29:38to add the 22 or log. We want, we want, we want our
- 1:29:43current deeds, in our, in our current luck, to feed the, well,
- 1:29:47to give a boost to the Next Generation to the next line.
- 1:29:52However, it comes whether it's through.
- 1:29:54During whether it's through birth, whether it's through
- 1:29:56friendship and kinship tiles of sharing of, you know, the
- 1:30:00gifting exchange with one another.
- 1:30:02I mean, this is how it's done here and now in the modern day,
- 1:30:05you know, and That's it's, you know, for me it's I don't have
- 1:30:12children of my own, but I have children and I have friends who
- 1:30:15are every bit family to me. And I want what I do now to be
- 1:30:19something that they can. You know, tap into as a, as luck
- 1:30:24later on down the line and as an ancestor, as I'll become one
- 1:30:27day, I'll damn sure be invested in their success to.
- 1:30:31And I want to see, I want to see them succeed, just as I know.
- 1:30:33My ancestors want to see me succeed.
- 1:30:37Hey Brian, said it very well earlier when he pointed out that
- 1:30:39there's a vested interest and the comes from our ancestors,
- 1:30:44that is not present from deity, or from gods or goddesses.
- 1:30:51Yeah. They had a no reason but our
- 1:30:53family. Our ancestors have every reason.
- 1:30:57So I thought this would be a really nice thing and it's
- 1:31:00getting to a point. Now I think that you know, for
- 1:31:02the sake of absorption for everybody listening and watching
- 1:31:06that this is this is a great point in time to look at
- 1:31:10wrapping the podcast up for the season for the year for this
- 1:31:14episode and I can't think of a better way to wrap it up then,
- 1:31:18two in a virtual way. Okay, have a sort of Sambal
- 1:31:26fish. And I want this to just be
- 1:31:29something a focus on boasts of of healing.
- 1:31:32Our of ancestors, a speak of a great deed.
- 1:31:35Speak of something of that has happened for each of you here in
- 1:31:392022, as we wrap up the season 3 of this podcast, you know what?
- 1:31:45Bose can you give that kales your ancestors that you have
- 1:31:50been able to accomplish this year, that that you would be
- 1:31:53willing to share with the viewers?
- 1:31:54The listeners today and I'll start with, I don't know.
- 1:31:58I'll start with you. Josh, if you don't mind, I'll
- 1:32:01put you on the spot. Man.
- 1:32:02It'll be able to spot. It will go.
- 1:32:04Well, we'll start with you Josh, and then we'll go to Richard,
- 1:32:08will go to Brian's Papa, and then we'll wrap up with Patrick.
- 1:32:11How's that sound? Well, first and foremost, I do
- 1:32:15come from an ancestral, land, and musicians.
- 1:32:19And this year was my first year branching out after 20-something
- 1:32:24Years to take in my musical journey and going solo and hold
- 1:32:30a popular. You're ready to save my band
- 1:32:33name for me we can do that. Yeah, yeah because papa says it
- 1:32:38better than anybody in the world so go ahead.
- 1:32:40Papa say my band name for me please sir.
- 1:32:43School Gourmet. Oh God that's sexy but so yeah I
- 1:32:50branched out solo and I started it actually two years ago but
- 1:32:54this year I'm follow you have some success with it and my new
- 1:32:58album the croon sagas is coming out on the 30th of this month
- 1:33:03and it is coming out via inner demon records, which I am
- 1:33:08honored to be a part of that family and is a it was a long
- 1:33:13journey. Ready to get there and to be on
- 1:33:17a record label as just a just a blessing in itself.
- 1:33:26Beautiful. Go ahead.
- 1:33:27Richard, I guess my biggest pose for this your men being seven
- 1:33:34years at my current employer forum.
- 1:33:37And fact that, now I'm the fishery the subject matter
- 1:33:41expert and the lead for the sealer line in the paint
- 1:33:44department. Well, I didn't some that, my,
- 1:33:51all my ancestors real. My grandfather was an electrical
- 1:33:54engineer for GE, so and everything.
- 1:33:57So it's something I've been even real proud of That's great.
- 1:34:05Thank you for sharing about you Brian.
- 1:34:10You know, I stumbled a while back and core gold really,
- 1:34:16really hard. It's a story for a different
- 1:34:19time, really. But this year, I was, I worked
- 1:34:24really hard professionally, and I'm the director of my of my
- 1:34:28company and just last month, I celebrated nine months sober or
- 1:34:37I mean, nine years sober, sorry. Nine years sober.
- 1:34:41Wow, graduate. And which again is another story
- 1:34:46for another time, but it's kind of how it brought me to the
- 1:34:48faith. So, but that would, that would
- 1:34:50definitely be it, man, achieving my personal and professional
- 1:34:53goals. It's been a great year.
- 1:34:57Wonderful, thank you. All right, Papa For me it's
- 1:35:03going to be all off pain-filled over some painful home field.
- 1:35:10Here's the son of a potato farmer.
- 1:35:12Who was the son of a potato farmer and potato farmer potato
- 1:35:16farmer. But he decided that his calling
- 1:35:19was a little bit different and he went into medicine and
- 1:35:22graduated as a doctor at the age of 18 in Sweden and decided to
- 1:35:28bring his practice to the United States and landed in a Town
- 1:35:32called Bean Station. Tennessee?
- 1:35:34And that's the entire reason that I've got to live and
- 1:35:40experience this amazing place called Appalachia.
- 1:35:45It's all owed to him answering that call and making that big
- 1:35:50move. I have to always honor him.
- 1:35:56Beautiful, thank you. All right, Patrick who you got?
- 1:36:02What you got. All right, all my posts this
- 1:36:05year. Travels.
- 1:36:08To see my these favorite musical groups my comfort zone and
- 1:36:20pushing myself to, you know, coming to see you.
- 1:36:25It's like I was having car issues and you know ended up
- 1:36:28getting covid on the way back and I probably had that prior to
- 1:36:31seeing you but just don't know just really Happened really
- 1:36:40meant something a lot to me. And then also, I was Working a
- 1:36:45lot with improving my mental health.
- 1:36:48And no, my, my daily habits and all, you know,
- 1:37:05We've all had a really. I mean, everybody's story has
- 1:37:08been really compelling, you know, each of your
- 1:37:11accomplishments each of your victories, each of the things
- 1:37:17that you've sown in your respective actions and you know,
- 1:37:23it's an honoring of your own selves, right?
- 1:37:27You you've done yourself good. Bye by doing all the things that
- 1:37:30you've said you've done and accomplished this year and
- 1:37:33reflecting on those Therese. I think is important and and
- 1:37:37stating those, you know, small wins, no matter how big it
- 1:37:40doesn't have to be a big thing. It doesn't have to be a major
- 1:37:43accomplishment, but it count your victories and use them to
- 1:37:47drive us into further greatness. And again, it is a boon to our
- 1:37:54ancestors because without them we wouldn't be here.
- 1:37:57So it's a great opportunity. I think for all of us to walk
- 1:38:01away from as as 2022 comes to a close you know.
- 1:38:05We're getting into a mindset, a lot of us of really going in
- 1:38:10where to our respective families homes.
- 1:38:13There's a lot of feasting and Gatherings coming up for a lot
- 1:38:16of us, you know. And you know, for me, I'll just
- 1:38:23say that there was a lot that happened this year, for my
- 1:38:28personal growth for my professional growth in my own
- 1:38:31job and my spiritual growth. So T faceted many victories and
- 1:38:37you know, as we come into the end of 20 to 20 22 and look
- 1:38:40forward into 2023. Let's let's each of us count our
- 1:38:43victories and this goes for everybody, listening and
- 1:38:45watching to, you know, as you've heard from all of the guests
- 1:38:48today and myself about things that we want to boast about her
- 1:38:53or speak. Well of and give credit to our
- 1:38:55ancestors and ourselves for these things do the same for
- 1:38:58yourselves, right? Share those conversations with
- 1:39:04your knee. Listen dearest tie that amount
- 1:39:07of weird together because kind recognizes kind of, you know,
- 1:39:12iron sharpens iron. There's there's so many
- 1:39:14different, you know, fire, ignites, fire different phrases,
- 1:39:17different ways that you can put it, but you'll really, I think
- 1:39:22find a find a great thing and a benefit in in recognizing the
- 1:39:28greatness in yourself and in talking about this with other
- 1:39:31people and then, you know, feeding off of each other's. -
- 1:39:35in accomplishments for a lot of us, you know, you'll is coming
- 1:39:39around here soon and you know, you will was traditionally a
- 1:39:44midwinter bloat for starting to think about crops and thinking
- 1:39:49about starting to plant your crops for the upcoming growth
- 1:39:52season. You know, we've made it through
- 1:39:54one of the harshest points of the Year.
- 1:39:58We're Midway through the light is at the end of the tunnel.
- 1:40:01We hadn't died yet, right? We hadn't started.
- 1:40:04We haven't As in write all the things that our ancient
- 1:40:06ancestors had to think about, we're thinking of it in a little
- 1:40:10bit in a different context now and there's a lot of things that
- 1:40:14we've been able to do this year that we can use to fuel for the
- 1:40:19upcoming year. And I would encourage everybody
- 1:40:21here as guests and friends and then also listeners, and viewers
- 1:40:24and supporters to, to use this time of year to think about the,
- 1:40:29the the crops that you're going to be planting the things that
- 1:40:31you're going to be doing in the days, the weeks, and the months.
- 1:40:34to come to honor your ancestors, to honor yourselves into Go out
- 1:40:41and be great, achieve great things to whatever degree
- 1:40:44doesn't have, again have to be a big massive thing, but just
- 1:40:47count your victories and use them to fuel future endeavors.
