- 0:01Athletes undergo extensive training routines, logging many
- 0:05thousands of hours with in many cases tough physical
- 0:09conditioning and practice in order to achieve their goals for
- 0:13physical development and to be able to participate in a
- 0:17competitive sporting event. Many who are not athletes
- 0:21undertake training routines to modify their physical strength
- 0:24or endurance. Actors in many cases have to
- 0:27take serious programs to prepare for a particularly demanding
- 0:32role that requires physical toning, strengthening or
- 0:36conditioning of their bodies. In each case, the individual
- 0:41does not achieve the desired result overnight, but has to
- 0:45undergo, in some cases, daily training that can go on for
- 0:49weeks, months, or years. To maintain the conditioning
- 0:54requires ongoing regular support of activity.
- 0:58Similarly, great artists have to hone their craft just as do
- 1:03great scientists, mathematicians, or others who
- 1:07develop powers of the vital being or the mind.
- 1:11Some of the individuals who start on these paths give up due
- 1:15to the strenuous nature of what they are called to do, as in
- 1:19some cases the training and focus consumes their lives and
- 1:23leaves them little freedom to explore other aspects of life.
- 1:27If they find it too difficult and give up, they simply move on
- 1:32into other areas of life and leave the dreams behind, for the
- 1:37spiritual secret is not different.
- 1:40Some people have the notion that taking up spirituality means
- 1:43some kind of escape from the rigors and circumstances that
- 1:47they have to face. Yet anyone who has tried to
- 1:51achieve a quiet mind in meditation or who has attempted
- 1:55to change some element of his physical, vital or mental being
- 2:00soon finds out that it is not as easy as was imagined.
- 2:06For those who took up a spiritual life out of a sense of
- 2:09defeat and to avoid facing the difficulties of the external
- 2:13life, there are constant setbacks and some of these
- 2:17individuals, finding it too difficult, give up and go back
- 2:22to some less trying outer life activity.
- 2:26Others recognize that while they may have sought an escape, there
- 2:30is no escape and they simply find a way to accept the trials
- 2:36and continue to push forward. When we observe the hundreds of
- 2:41millions of years that life on earth has had to develop fixed
- 2:45habits and instinctive behaviour, it becomes clear why
- 2:49it may take some time and constant persevering efforts to
- 2:54effectuate a change. In fact, the individual setbacks
- 2:59are simply steps along the way as the seeker works out the
- 3:03necessary means to uplift some aspect of human nature.
- 3:08This involves a focus as intense, if not more intense
- 3:13than anything that an athlete or some other individual striving
- 3:17to succeed in the external world has to face, as one is then up
- 3:22against millions of years of habitual patterns that have to
- 3:26be deconstructed and modified, the mother writes.
- 3:31Quote, If you are not able to face difficulties without
- 3:36getting discouraged and without giving up because it is too
- 3:39difficult, and if you are incapable well of receiving
- 3:44blows and yet continuing of pocketing them, as they say,
- 3:48when you receive blows as a result of your defects, of
- 3:52putting them in your pocket and continuing to go forward without
- 3:57flagging, you don't go very far at the first turning, where you
- 4:03lose sight of your little habitual life, you fall into
- 4:06despair and give up the game the most.
- 4:10How shall I put it? The most material form of this
- 4:13quality of endurance is perseverance.
- 4:17Unless you are resolved to begin the same thing over again 1000
- 4:22times, if need be. You know, people come to me in
- 4:26despair, but I thought it was done, and now I must begin
- 4:30again. And if they are told, but that's
- 4:35nothing, you will probably have to begin again 100 times, 200 *
- 4:411000 times. You take one step forward and
- 4:45think you are secure, but there will always be something to
- 4:49bring back the same difficulty a little farther on.
- 4:54You think you have solved the problem, you must solve it yet
- 4:58once again it will turn up again, looking just a little
- 5:01different, but it will be the same problem.
- 5:05And if you are not determined that even if it comes back a
- 5:10million times, I shall do it a million times, but I shall go
- 5:14through with it, well, you won't be able to do the yoga.
- 5:20This is absolutely indispensable.
- 5:24People have a beautiful experience and say, ah, now this
- 5:28is it. And then it settles down,
- 5:31diminishes, gets veiled, and suddenly something quite
- 5:35unexpected, absolutely commonplace and apparently
- 5:39completely uninteresting, comes before you and blocks your way.
- 5:43And then you say, ah, what's the good of having made this
- 5:47progress if it's going to start all over again?
- 5:52Why should I do it? I made an effort, I succeeded,
- 5:56achieved something, and it's as if I had done nothing.
- 6:02It's indeed hopeless, for you have no endurance.
- 6:07If one has endurance, one says it's all right, good.
- 6:13I shall begin again as often as necessary, 1000 * 10,000 *
- 6:20100,000 times. If necessary, I shall begin
- 6:23again, but I shall go to the end, and nothing will have the
- 6:27power to stop me on the way. End Quote Reference Srioro Bindu
