- 1:03Speaker 1: this podcast delivered right to your phone, tablet, or computer
- 1:06Speaker 1: by subscribing wherever you get your podcasts. It's the greatest
- 1:10Speaker 1: thing since Salute to Service. Intros The NFL does a
- 1:16Speaker 1: great job of paying tribute to our nation's service members, veterans,
- 1:19Speaker 1: and their families through its year round Salute to Service
- 1:23Speaker 1: program that includes a yearly Salute to Service game at
- 1:26Speaker 1: every NFL stadium. That includes something that always hits me
- 1:31Speaker 1: right in the heart. When the starting lineup is announced
- 1:34Speaker 1: and the players individually charge out of the tunnel toward
- 1:36Speaker 1: the fifty yard line. They are accompanied by an active
- 1:40Speaker 1: military member, and the players seem to enjoy it as
- 1:43Speaker 1: much as the men and women who are serving our country.
- 1:46Speaker 1: They often come out with choreographed handshakes and high fives
- 1:50Speaker 1: before sprinting toward the fifty. Side by side. Sunday's game
- 1:55Speaker 1: didn't end well for the Bengals, but it began with
- 1:58Speaker 1: a wonderful tradition. Now time for the radio replays from
- 2:02Speaker 1: a disappointing afternoon at pay Corps. It is a beautiful
- 2:08Speaker 1: November afternoon here in Cincinnati. We have bright sunshine, not
- 2:12Speaker 1: a cloud in sight, and while the temperature is cool
- 2:16Speaker 1: at fifty four degrees, the Bengals are red hot.
- 2:19Speaker 2: They've won four straight.
- 2:20Speaker 1: They will try to extend that winning streak today as
- 2:23Speaker 1: they host the Houston Texans. Burro already for a shotgun snap.
- 2:28Speaker 1: He catches at the thirty seven, drops back to the
- 2:30Speaker 1: forty fires down.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Whoa caught at the famm by Trenton Irwin.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Touchdownn Wait Bengals as Burrow delivers a perfect strike and
- 2:41Speaker 3: Trenton Irwin takes it in for the Bengals touchdown.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Stroud in the gun, three receivers rights. Stroud looking right,
- 2:50Speaker 1: throws right, caught at the six, running back toward the
- 2:53Speaker 1: middle of the field, diving toward the end zone.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Touchdown. Tagdell boy.
- 2:58Speaker 4: That was a heck of a He's a finish right there.
- 3:01Speaker 1: This will be a forty five yard try from the left.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Hash trying to give the Texans a late lead in
- 3:06Speaker 1: the second quarter.
- 3:08Speaker 2: The kick is on its way and it is good,
- 3:12Speaker 2: and with.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Ten seconds left in the half, the Texans are ahead
- 3:15Speaker 1: ten to seven. Stroud under center toss sweep to the right.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Singletary has room and cruises into the end zone. I
- 3:24Speaker 1: don't know if he was touched. It's a touchdown for
- 3:26Speaker 1: the Texans.
- 3:27Speaker 5: They have taken control of the line of scrimmage and
- 3:30Speaker 5: are not letting it go.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Three sacks for the Texans today and that turns it
- 3:35Speaker 1: into a fifty yard field goal attempt as the Bengals
- 3:38Speaker 1: went backward after having it the twenty four to snap
- 3:41Speaker 1: the placement the right footed kick. It has the distance
- 3:45Speaker 1: and it is good. So the Bengals cut the deficit
- 3:50Speaker 1: to ten. As Evan McPherson nails one from fifty yards away,
- 3:56Speaker 1: Burrow will look to throw. Pressure forces him to scre
- 4:00Speaker 1: amble left. Burrow throws deep down field. Chase catches at
- 4:04Speaker 1: the twenty.
- 4:05Speaker 6: He's at the ten, raises the ball in his right
- 4:08Speaker 6: hand as he cruises into.
- 4:10Speaker 7: The end zone.
- 4:11Speaker 6: Touchdown to Jamar Chase, a sixty four yard strike. No gritty,
- 4:18Speaker 6: no backflip. He's not going to aggravate the back. But
- 4:22Speaker 6: he just made a huge touchdown catch.
- 4:25Speaker 5: Well.
- 4:25Speaker 2: CJ.
- 4:25Speaker 5: Stroud has done it.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Joe Borrow says I could do it too, rolls to
- 4:29Speaker 4: his left.
- 4:30Speaker 5: Squares his shoulder, pads up, throws it down the middle
- 4:33Speaker 5: of the football field of Jamar Chase.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Touchdown, first down in goal. The Texans go empty. Stroud
- 4:40Speaker 1: drops back to throw. Now scrambles up the middle of
- 4:42Speaker 1: the field to the five to the goal line, and
- 4:45Speaker 1: he walks in for the touchdown. So here we go
- 4:48Speaker 1: four minutes to go. The Bengals are in the red
- 4:50Speaker 1: zone at the fourteen yard line. They trail by ten points.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Burrow waiting for a shotgun snap. Three receivers left, Chase
- 4:58Speaker 1: alone out to the right. Burrow from the pocket, going backward,
- 5:02Speaker 1: scrambling right throws toward the end zone in traffic intercepted
- 5:05Speaker 1: in the end zone. Third down in two, Stroud fakes
- 5:09Speaker 1: a handoff, rolls right throws intercepting.
- 5:12Speaker 6: The Bengals are running it back. Cam Taylor bru tackled
- 5:16Speaker 6: inside the five. It's not over yet.
- 5:20Speaker 1: C J. Stroud with just his second ist of the year.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Cam Taylor Britt with his fourth interception in the last
- 5:28Speaker 1: five games. Tank Dell save the touchdown, but the Bengals
- 5:34Speaker 1: will have it first in goal near the five with
- 5:37Speaker 1: three and a half minutes to go, first and goal
- 5:40Speaker 1: from the one with three twenty two left in regulation,
- 5:42Speaker 1: the Bengals down by ten, Burwing the shotgun, mixing to
- 5:46Speaker 1: his right.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Burrow catches the shotgun snap.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Gives it to Joe Mixon knife's into the end zone, touchdown.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Bengals with three eighteen to go. Three receivers left, one right.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Burrow catches the shotgun snap he's back to throw, flings
- 6:00Speaker 1: it over the middle, sleeping catch boy to the fifty.
- 6:03Speaker 6: He's running away from the back at the thirty, the
- 6:05Speaker 6: twenty to fifteen, the ten. He's tackled inside the ten.
- 6:10Speaker 6: With one fifty three to go.
- 6:13Speaker 5: Joe Burrow has had seven fourth quarter comeback.
- 6:17Speaker 4: Victories in his career. Will it beat number eight?
- 6:21Speaker 1: Burrow waits for the snap from Ted Karris. Joe has
- 6:24Speaker 1: the ball drops back from the twenty one throws Foo
- 6:27Speaker 1: bobbled and dropped in the end zone. Tyler Boyd a
- 6:31Speaker 1: great throw and Boyd dropped what could have been the
- 6:34Speaker 1: go ahead touchdown. What should have been the go ahead touchdown,
- 6:39Speaker 1: the Bengals have to settle for a field goal try
- 6:41Speaker 1: from thirty one yards away, trying to tie the game
- 6:45Speaker 1: with one thirty seven to go. Adamitas will snap, Robbins
- 6:49Speaker 1: will hold. The snap is good, the ball is placed down,
- 6:52Speaker 1: The kick is up and is good, tying the game
- 6:56Speaker 1: with ninety three seconds remaining, from thirty eight yards away
- 7:01Speaker 1: from the left hash to win the game for the Texans,
- 7:05Speaker 1: the snap the swing of the right leg, The kick
- 7:08Speaker 1: is up and the kick is good. The clock hit
- 7:12Speaker 1: zero and the Texans celebrate they have defeated the Bengals
- 7:17Speaker 1: by the final score of thirty to twenty seven.
- 7:21Speaker 7: Amazing.
- 7:22Speaker 5: You talk about coming back and having an opportunity to
- 7:26Speaker 5: win a football game and then to lose it like that,
- 7:30Speaker 5: the thrill of victory the agony of defeat in a
- 7:33Speaker 5: matter of minutes.
- 7:36Speaker 1: The Houston Texans, a team that won three games last year,
- 7:40Speaker 1: are now five and four with a twenty point win
- 7:43Speaker 1: of Jacksonville, a thirty to six win over the Pittsburgh Steelers,
- 7:47Speaker 1: and a road win at Cincinnati, and the stats on
- 7:51Speaker 1: Sunday were downright ugly. The Texans outgained the Bengals by
- 7:55Speaker 1: one hundred and sixty four yards five point forty four
- 7:58Speaker 1: to three eighty. Singletary rushed for a career high one
- 8:02Speaker 1: point fifty and Noah Brown had a career high one
- 8:05Speaker 1: hundred and seventy two receiving yards and listened to this.
- 8:09Speaker 1: His first catch went for nine yards, his next six
- 8:12Speaker 1: went for thirty, twenty eight, twenty nine, twenty thirty four,
- 8:18Speaker 1: and twenty two. I don't ever remember a receiver being
- 8:22Speaker 1: that wide open that many times during the Bengals four
- 8:26Speaker 1: game winning streak. Cincinnati's opponents never scored more than twenty points.
- 8:31Speaker 1: The Texans scored thirty, and it could have been more
- 8:34Speaker 1: if they didn't lose a fumble at the Bengals nine.
- 8:37Speaker 1: I talked about it with DJ Reader.
- 8:41Speaker 7: I don't we didn't play well enough to win.
- 8:42Speaker 8: He was a group as a team a roll and
- 8:45Speaker 8: so that's all this stuff happens in You know, it's
- 8:48Speaker 8: not going to be rewarded when you don't play them.
- 8:50Speaker 7: Enough to win. They don't.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Sevin Singletary had a big day in the running game.
- 8:55Speaker 1: What were the Texans doing that was challenging to stop
- 8:58Speaker 1: missing tackles?
- 9:00Speaker 7: That's it.
- 9:00Speaker 8: We just missed tackles. They didn't do nothing that really
- 9:03Speaker 8: made it tough. We just missed tackle. He's a good back,
- 9:05Speaker 8: but they can't miss the many tackles. As the defense,
- 9:09Speaker 8: what do you think of CJ.
- 9:10Speaker 7: Stroud?
- 9:11Speaker 8: We pretty good man. He stays in the pocket, well,
- 9:12Speaker 8: throw some good balls. It does a good job of
- 9:15Speaker 8: feeling the pocket out. Seemed like I was running wide
- 9:18Speaker 8: open at there. So we just gotta do better as
- 9:19Speaker 8: a as a group. We uh tightened up a little bit,
- 9:22Speaker 8: but we.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Just gotta do better. You guys have won four straight
- 9:25Speaker 1: and five out of stick six. Is it kind of
- 9:27Speaker 1: a stunning result of that one slipped through your fingers
- 9:29Speaker 1: at home?
- 9:30Speaker 4: Oh?
- 9:30Speaker 8: I think it's just more frustrating cause you know, we
- 9:32Speaker 8: we we know we didn't play a guitar standard. You
- 9:34Speaker 8: know they're a good team that fire that hot. But
- 9:37Speaker 8: as a team, you know, you can deal with losses
- 9:38Speaker 8: when you play up to the standard. But you don't,
- 9:40Speaker 8: it's not it's frustrating to deal with, you know what
- 9:43Speaker 8: I'm saying.
- 9:44Speaker 1: I imagine everyone's hurting for Tyler Boyd. He's one been one
- 9:47Speaker 1: of the most reliable receivers in the league for his
- 9:49Speaker 1: entire career and unfortunately dropped what could have been a
- 9:52Speaker 1: game winner.
- 9:52Speaker 7: Yeah. Man, tough things.
- 9:53Speaker 8: Happened, man, this thing and that's why we got big shoulders.
- 9:56Speaker 8: You know, we gotta well out there. I spend again
- 9:59Speaker 8: next week, we'd look we go a short week, opportunity
- 10:01Speaker 8: to get the problems. No time to stew over it then,
- 10:03Speaker 8: for sure, No Thomas sad gonna worry about it. We
- 10:05Speaker 8: just gotta go out there and get a win next time.
- 10:07Speaker 1: I appreciate this time for sure. The one thing the
- 10:10Speaker 1: Bengals defense did do well was take the ball away
- 10:13Speaker 1: forcing three turnovers. In fact, when Joe Burrow threw his
- 10:16Speaker 1: second interception with four minutes to go, fans started heading
- 10:20Speaker 1: for the exits, only to turn around and rush back
- 10:23Speaker 1: in when Cam Taylor Britt picked off c J. Stroud
- 10:27Speaker 1: less than thirty seconds later to give Cincinnati a chance.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Taylor Britt is now tied for third in the NFL
- 10:33Speaker 1: with four picks, and Dave Lapham spoke to him after
- 10:36Speaker 1: the game.
- 10:38Speaker 5: I think you had at least nine tackles, probably double digit,
- 10:41Speaker 5: but I mean the interception was huge. The interception kept
- 10:45Speaker 5: the Cincinnati Bengals alive and then the football game.
- 10:48Speaker 4: Take us through that play.
- 10:49Speaker 9: Yeah, I just got hit on the same play before,
- 10:52Speaker 9: and I think I was just playing off on the
- 10:54Speaker 9: first one and he ran the underneath out and I
- 10:56Speaker 9: was kind of off and I made the tackle on.
- 10:57Speaker 7: On the other side of the field.
- 10:59Speaker 9: By this time, I just pressed stitting on you know
- 11:00Speaker 9: who I was guarding on, you know, to speak guy.
- 11:03Speaker 9: They want to catch a run with him, So I
- 11:05Speaker 9: just pressed at that time, and so he throws his
- 11:07Speaker 9: undercutter like I should have did on the first one.
- 11:09Speaker 7: So yeah, it just made it play.
- 11:10Speaker 5: What about your your finger you had to leave the
- 11:13Speaker 5: game for a little bit. Did you did you dislocated?
- 11:15Speaker 5: Did you pop it? What happened?
- 11:16Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 11:17Speaker 9: He dislocated and popped it right back again.
- 11:20Speaker 4: Been there, I know what that's like. Did it go
- 11:22Speaker 4: back easy?
- 11:23Speaker 9: No, I ain't go back easy. He did a little
- 11:25Speaker 9: you know, fiddling around with it. But yeah, we're all good.
- 11:28Speaker 4: Now, that's good. That's good.
- 11:30Speaker 5: So their running game, I mean, they did get their
- 11:32Speaker 5: their running game going to compliment that passing attack. And
- 11:36Speaker 5: when you get a running game out for like one
- 11:39Speaker 5: hundred and they had one back over over one hundred
- 11:41Speaker 5: and thirty, and then they can run play action off that,
- 11:44Speaker 5: it makes it tough, doesn't it.
- 11:45Speaker 9: Oh yeah, most definitely. You know, when you're trying to crash, run,
- 11:47Speaker 9: crash and run and then they hit you with a
- 11:48Speaker 9: nice play action deep shot across the field, that's when
- 11:51Speaker 9: you know you really got the home in on your
- 11:52Speaker 9: your craft and eyes and everything. That's when everything kind
- 11:55Speaker 9: of comes into play, you know, And they kind of
- 11:57Speaker 9: hit us with some of those in the game, you know,
- 11:59Speaker 9: and I hurt us.
- 12:00Speaker 4: So you still have a chance to win the football game.
- 12:03Speaker 5: The Bengals were in position to score a touchdown to
- 12:05Speaker 5: take take a lead that doesn't happen, and you know,
- 12:08Speaker 5: I know Tyler's obviously feels terrible about you know, a
- 12:11Speaker 5: play down the stress that wasn't made. But there's a
- 12:13Speaker 5: million plays during the course of the football game that
- 12:15Speaker 5: if any of them had gone differently, it might be
- 12:17Speaker 5: a different outcome, right.
- 12:18Speaker 9: Yeah, Memos definitely, Man, I say, you can't just picking
- 12:20Speaker 9: out one moment in that game. We played as a whole,
- 12:23Speaker 9: as a team. Every those situation matters. You know, it
- 12:25Speaker 9: can't put it on one person. So we just got
- 12:27Speaker 9: to come out here next time and put off no
- 12:28Speaker 9: tenth holes on the ground and go stand on business.
- 12:30Speaker 7: Muh As.
- 12:32Speaker 1: For the offense, it started well, scoring a touchdown on
- 12:34Speaker 1: the opening drive for the fifth straight game, but then
- 12:38Speaker 1: Cincinnati went bone dry for a quarter and a half.
- 12:41Speaker 1: At one point, the Bengals had five straight possessions without
- 12:44Speaker 1: a first down. Joe Burrow threw for three hundred and
- 12:48Speaker 1: forty seven yards and two touchdowns, but also threw two
- 12:51Speaker 1: picks in a game for the first time since the
- 12:53Speaker 1: AFC Championship lost to Kansas City. Joe has also sacked
- 12:57Speaker 1: four times, including three by veteran defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins
- 13:03Speaker 1: a good player, but not exactly Aaron Donald. Until this year,
- 13:08Speaker 1: Rankins had not had more than three sacks in a
- 13:11Speaker 1: season since twenty eighteen. The Bengals did score twenty seven points,
- 13:17Speaker 1: which is usually enough to win, but it wasn't on Sunday.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Here's Joe Mixon.
- 13:23Speaker 7: The guys they fought.
- 13:24Speaker 10: They fought their asses off all four quarters, you know,
- 13:27Speaker 10: from start to finish.
- 13:29Speaker 7: You know, offense, we struggled.
- 13:30Speaker 10: We started off slow, and they basically carried the momentum
- 13:35Speaker 10: for the most part. But you know, the best thing
- 13:38Speaker 10: about it is we figured it out, and unfortunately it
- 13:41Speaker 10: was too late. So we just got to do whatever
- 13:43Speaker 10: we can to not start that way, man, and just
- 13:46Speaker 10: learn from what we've been having.
- 13:49Speaker 1: I'm sure, what was that emotional roller coaster ride like
- 13:52Speaker 1: at the end where it looked like, inspite everything, you're
- 13:54Speaker 1: going to pull it out, and then Houston makes the
- 13:56Speaker 1: plays to win the game.
- 13:57Speaker 10: I mean when it come down, so he just got
- 13:59Speaker 10: a you know, the game and over until it's over
- 14:01Speaker 10: till his zero. The best thing about it is our
- 14:03Speaker 10: guys we fought in claud scratch. But the thing is,
- 14:07Speaker 10: you know, we came up short most of the time,
- 14:10Speaker 10: you know, we find ourselves on a on a winning
- 14:12Speaker 10: half man. So uh you know, for me, I try
- 14:15Speaker 10: not to you know, get too high, get too love.
- 14:17Speaker 10: Just like I said, the best thing about it is
- 14:19Speaker 10: with the turning page real quick, get ready for Baltimore
- 14:22Speaker 10: and uh, you know, Thursday night football.
- 14:25Speaker 1: There's not a more sure handed receiver in the NFL
- 14:27Speaker 1: than Tyler boyd imagine everybody in here is hurting for him.
- 14:31Speaker 10: Nine times out of ten, he's gonna make that play.
- 14:33Speaker 10: And uh, you know, even though he dropped the past.
- 14:36Speaker 10: I mean, I know what type of receiver he is.
- 14:37Speaker 10: I've been with him for seven years and he's always
- 14:40Speaker 10: been consistent. Thing about it is, I mean, gonna keep
- 14:43Speaker 10: his head up high as he should. He got us
- 14:46Speaker 10: back ope down, you know, to make a to make
- 14:49Speaker 10: a crucial play, to be able to you know, potentially
- 14:52Speaker 10: go ahead. And you know the best thing about it is,
- 14:55Speaker 10: you know our guys, you know, kept him in there
- 14:58Speaker 10: when we stayed. We stayed, and you know, we just
- 15:01Speaker 10: came up short when it comes down to it, that
- 15:03Speaker 10: last drive. Even though it was that last drive, we
- 15:05Speaker 10: should have never been in that situation in the first place,
- 15:08Speaker 10: to be honest, But I mean, it is what it is,
- 15:11Speaker 10: so uh my boy, he gonna tell he's gonna keep
- 15:14Speaker 10: his head up high as he should and get ready
- 15:17Speaker 10: to turn the page.
- 15:18Speaker 1: I don't know if you even heard at this point
- 15:20Speaker 1: Cleveland rally to beat Baltimore, so you didn't lose any
- 15:22Speaker 1: ground in the division. How does that impact you going
- 15:25Speaker 1: into Thursday night?
- 15:26Speaker 4: I mean that's cool enough, but.
- 15:29Speaker 10: You know, I guess thank them, you know, when it
- 15:32Speaker 10: come down to it, we got a big game coming up,
- 15:34Speaker 10: and I guess both teams is off of a loss.
- 15:37Speaker 10: So I'm sure just like we want to get that
- 15:40Speaker 10: taste out our mind, I'm sure they do too.
- 15:41Speaker 7: Man.
- 15:41Speaker 10: So as long we know what type of game is
- 15:43Speaker 10: gonna be and we just got to get ready to,
- 15:46Speaker 10: you know, for a big fight.
- 15:48Speaker 1: I appreciate your time, Yeah, for sure. The Baltimore Ravens
- 15:52Speaker 1: had a fourteen point lead with nine minutes to go
- 15:55Speaker 1: on Sunday, but lost at home to Cleveland thirty three
- 15:58Speaker 1: to thirty one. The Steelers were out gained by seventy
- 16:02Speaker 1: five yards against Green Bay, meaning Pittsburgh has been outgained
- 16:05Speaker 1: in every game this season, but the Steelers won again
- 16:09Speaker 1: twenty three nineteen, so in the AFC, North Baltimore is
- 16:14Speaker 1: on top at seven and three, The Steelers and Browns
- 16:16Speaker 1: are a half game back at six and three, and
- 16:19Speaker 1: the Bengals are a game and a half back behind
- 16:21Speaker 1: the Ravens at five and four. Heading into that Thursday
- 16:24Speaker 1: night showdown, the Steelers and Browns face each other in
- 16:28Speaker 1: Cleveland next Sunday. Now, let's hear from Zach Taylor as
- 16:32Speaker 1: he spent a couple of minutes with Lap after the game.
- 16:36Speaker 5: Man, that was a hard fought football game, no question
- 16:39Speaker 5: about it. Could could have gone either way at any
- 16:42Speaker 5: point in time. I mean, give us your assessment of
- 16:44Speaker 5: what you saw on how you feel at this point.
- 16:46Speaker 11: We did enough earlier in the game to give ourselves
- 16:48Speaker 11: the best chance. I was part of the way the
- 16:50Speaker 11: guys fought back. That's rare that you can come down
- 16:53Speaker 11: from from whatever we were down and late in the
- 16:56Speaker 11: fourth quarter and be able to put ourselves in a
- 16:57Speaker 11: position to win the game. Unfortunately, just too little, too late.
- 17:01Speaker 4: So I know Tyler feels awful.
- 17:02Speaker 5: I mean you know that that play feels like he
- 17:05Speaker 5: can make the making his sleep. But it never comes
- 17:08Speaker 5: down to one play in a game like this. There's
- 17:10Speaker 5: always a million plays that you can go back to
- 17:12Speaker 5: and say, if we had done this, if we had
- 17:13Speaker 5: done that. But overall, what do you think were some
- 17:16Speaker 5: of the things that that maybe surprised you or didn't
- 17:20Speaker 5: go the way you thought they might.
- 17:21Speaker 11: A rhythm in the first half on offense particular, you know,
- 17:23Speaker 11: a lot of three and outs, just couldn't get that
- 17:25Speaker 11: first first down to get ourselves going and give ourselves
- 17:27Speaker 11: a little bit of rhythm. You got regredit to them.
- 17:30Speaker 11: They did the good job keeping us off off balance
- 17:32Speaker 11: a little bit, and so then you know, that's I
- 17:35Speaker 11: thought our defense was doing a good job in the
- 17:36Speaker 11: first half. I've taken the pressure off of us. We
- 17:38Speaker 11: just didn't get enough points on the board.
- 17:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:40Speaker 5: Defensively, well, they played fast and they're good tacklers. I
- 17:44Speaker 5: mean they were. They were making tackles, were limiting. There
- 17:47Speaker 5: was nothing after the after the cats. It wasn't in
- 17:50Speaker 5: the yards after catch, not a whole lot of yards
- 17:51Speaker 5: after the contract. The contact they were they were playing
- 17:54Speaker 5: a very uh, very emotional game, I guess. So they
- 17:57Speaker 5: were playing fast for sure.
- 17:59Speaker 11: Yeah, there are physical team. They play with a lot
- 18:01Speaker 11: of energy, and so we expected to see that today
- 18:03Speaker 11: and that's where we're at C. J.
- 18:05Speaker 5: Stroud is as advertised. I mean that kid has kind
- 18:09Speaker 5: of ice water in his veins as well to go
- 18:11Speaker 5: down the football field make some of the plays he
- 18:13Speaker 5: made to win the football game.
- 18:14Speaker 11: He did a good job. He extended some plays, found
- 18:16Speaker 11: some perceivers and certainly that in that last drive put
- 18:19Speaker 11: him in a position to go win.
- 18:21Speaker 5: He seems to be when he gets out of pocket
- 18:23Speaker 5: and creates an extens he's going for the juggular. I mean,
- 18:25Speaker 5: he's trying to make a big play. It looked like
- 18:28Speaker 5: a high percentage of the time. Is that his demo
- 18:30Speaker 5: He's done a good job of that.
- 18:31Speaker 11: You know, he's just a rookie, hasn't played a ton,
- 18:33Speaker 11: but I thought last week against Tampa he did that,
- 18:35Speaker 11: led them down for a game winning drive, and did
- 18:36Speaker 11: it again this week.
- 18:38Speaker 5: And finally, how about the effort that Jamar Chase gave
- 18:41Speaker 5: you with you know, limited activity during the course of
- 18:44Speaker 5: the week for him to come out and make the
- 18:45Speaker 5: plays he made.
- 18:46Speaker 4: Is he's extraordinary.
- 18:47Speaker 11: Yeah, proud of him, Proud of the way that he
- 18:50Speaker 11: he gave us a chance, you know, and got in
- 18:51Speaker 11: there and made some big plays. And thankful that he
- 18:55Speaker 11: gave us that opportunity today.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Chase, he's finished with five catches for one hundred and
- 18:59Speaker 1: twenty four yards. Boyd had eight catches for a buck seventeen.

- 19:21Speaker 1: is the official healthcare provider of the Bengals. Now time
- 19:24Speaker 1: for the radio guys recap lap. We have emerged from
- 19:29Speaker 1: a very disappointed Bengals locker room, and I think those
- 19:31Speaker 1: guys were angry with themselves for the mistakes they made
- 19:35Speaker 1: that helped contribute to Houston's win.
- 19:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I agree, they just didn't take care of business.
- 19:42Speaker 5: I do think that they're barely disappointed about their performance
- 19:47Speaker 5: run defense. I mean one hundred and fifty yards for
- 19:50Speaker 5: singletary five yards of pop. One hundred and eighty eight
- 19:52Speaker 5: yards they rushed for as a team and the Bengals
- 19:55Speaker 5: rush for sixty six. When you lose the run game,
- 19:59Speaker 5: ballo by you know, touchdown on a football field and
- 20:04Speaker 5: a quarter. That's significant, no doubt about it. It affects time
- 20:08Speaker 5: of possession, affects how many possessions you're going to get,
- 20:12Speaker 5: it affects everything. It's remarkable that they had the comeback
- 20:15Speaker 5: that they had to try to make it a football
- 20:17Speaker 5: game down a stretch, and I know Tyler Boyd's bitterly disappointed,
- 20:21Speaker 5: and rightfully so, but all those teammates are saying exactly
- 20:26Speaker 5: the case. There's a lot of players in that football
- 20:29Speaker 5: game that if they were made, would have affected the
- 20:31Speaker 5: outcome of the football game.
- 20:32Speaker 7: It's never just one play, but.
- 20:35Speaker 5: Man, opportunities were there, didn't cash in on them. And
- 20:40Speaker 5: like you said, Dan, they were their worst own worst
- 20:43Speaker 5: enemy in a lot of cases.
- 20:44Speaker 1: So in my mind, this game was one up front
- 20:47Speaker 1: they usually are. But the Texans had consistent pressure on
- 20:51Speaker 1: Joe Burrow, Bengals didn't get much on CJ. Stroud. The
- 20:55Speaker 1: Texans had a running game, the Bengals didn't. All of
- 20:58Speaker 1: that points do line play.
- 21:00Speaker 5: No doubt, and you know, I just think that we
- 21:04Speaker 5: mentioned that multiple times, particularly early in the football game.
- 21:08Speaker 5: It was stunning to me how fast this defense was
- 21:11Speaker 5: and how well they tackled. I mean one on one,
- 21:15Speaker 5: they were making tackles. Guys were still pursuing to make plays,
- 21:18Speaker 5: but they didn't even have to get involved because their
- 21:20Speaker 5: teammates were getting it done in space one on one.
- 21:23Speaker 5: It was a remarkable performance. I mean, I got to
- 21:26Speaker 5: give to Miko Ryans and the Texans a lot of credit.
- 21:29Speaker 5: And they are buying what he's selling, There's no question
- 21:32Speaker 5: about it. And that's the type of player he was
- 21:34Speaker 5: as a Pro Bowl linebacker for that organization. He played fast,
- 21:39Speaker 5: he played physical, He played with a lot of emotion,
- 21:42Speaker 5: and that's they're buying into all those traits that he's
- 21:46Speaker 5: trying to get them to play with. And many they're
- 21:49Speaker 5: effort givers, no doubt about it.
- 21:52Speaker 1: So a couple of years ago, in the Super Bowl season,
- 21:54Speaker 1: Tyler Boyd went through the entire regular season without a drop.
- 21:57Speaker 1: He had a couple of costly ones. Today, the one
- 21:59Speaker 1: at the end of the game speaks for itself. But
- 22:01Speaker 1: let's go back to the beginning of that sequence. First
- 22:03Speaker 1: and goal at the seven. After he makes a fantastic play,
- 22:07Speaker 1: Burrow gets sacked. Burrow tries to run a quarterback draw,
- 22:11Speaker 1: Houston's all over it. I mean, again, it comes down
- 22:13Speaker 1: to the inability to protect or open holes.
- 22:17Speaker 5: Yeah, and both of those plays, you got to give
- 22:20Speaker 5: the interior of the Houston Texans defensive line a lot
- 22:23Speaker 5: of credit. You know, Rankins just just collapsed the interior
- 22:27Speaker 5: of the pocket and made a heck of a play.
- 22:30Speaker 5: He did that a couple of times today. I mean,
- 22:32Speaker 5: he was a force, There's no question about it. And
- 22:34Speaker 5: then quarterback draw those defensive tackles did a good job
- 22:37Speaker 5: once again of not you know, not taking the cheese,
- 22:40Speaker 5: not biting on the on the pass protection, they did
- 22:43Speaker 5: a pretty good job of, you know, retracing quickly and
- 22:47Speaker 5: getting in position to make make a play on Joe Burrow.
- 22:50Speaker 5: So that was you got to give credit where credits due.
- 22:54Speaker 5: I mean, they made plays when they had to make
- 22:56Speaker 5: plays to win a football game. And man, see Jay Stroud,
- 23:00Speaker 5: when he had to make throws down the field at
- 23:02Speaker 5: the end of the game to put his team in
- 23:05Speaker 5: position to win the football game. He made him. And
- 23:09Speaker 5: I mean when he's out of pocket, he goes for
- 23:13Speaker 5: the throat. I mean, he tries to make big plays
- 23:17Speaker 5: down the football field when he's creating extending, He's not
- 23:21Speaker 5: satisfied with just doing a little dinky dink and duncan
- 23:24Speaker 5: with a change. He wants to hurt you, and hurt
- 23:26Speaker 5: you badly.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Yeah, and he's certainly not looking to run for five
- 23:29Speaker 1: yards towards the sideline. He wears Noah Brown, so I
- 23:31Speaker 1: can chuck it to him thirty yards down the field.
- 23:34Speaker 5: Noah Brown, I mean, my goodness, I mean, Noah Brown
- 23:37Speaker 5: just had himself a game. Eight targets, seven catches, one
- 23:40Speaker 5: hundred and seventy two yards averaged over twenty four and
- 23:44Speaker 5: a half yards a catch. His long was only thirty four.
- 23:47Speaker 5: He had multiple catches of fifteen yards and more. I
- 23:50Speaker 5: mean it was like every time they needed a play,
- 23:53Speaker 5: Noah Brown was making the play and he was wide open,
- 23:55Speaker 5: and he was stationary wide open. It's like, what the heck, man,
- 23:59Speaker 5: it's a It's it's amazing. I was wondering if he
- 24:04Speaker 5: had some kind of an odor or something that nobody
- 24:06Speaker 5: wanted to be around.
- 24:06Speaker 7: I mean, it was.
- 24:07Speaker 4: It was incredible how open the guy was.
- 24:09Speaker 7: It was nuts.
- 24:10Speaker 1: I think his first catch went for nine and his
- 24:13Speaker 1: last six went for twenty plus.
- 24:15Speaker 4: That's crazy. I mean, that's that's just ripping.
- 24:19Speaker 5: Dell targeted fourteen times, only got six catches.
- 24:23Speaker 7: Out of it.
- 24:24Speaker 5: But they've got they've got to a compliment a stable
- 24:27Speaker 5: of different type of receivers. You know, they got the big,
- 24:29Speaker 5: strong guys, and they've got you know, Dell, a little
- 24:32Speaker 5: cat quick cat quick guy. They're a good football team.
- 24:36Speaker 5: I mean that's a legitimate football team. And c J.
- 24:40Speaker 5: Stroud those twenty three for thirty nine, three hundred and
- 24:44Speaker 5: fifty six yards after four to seventy a game before
- 24:48Speaker 5: touchdown on interception. He came down to Earth quarterback rating
- 24:51Speaker 5: wise a little bit eighty seven point one. But I
- 24:55Speaker 5: mean watching him play, he is legit in every way.
- 24:59Speaker 5: I mean it's it's incredible how his poise and his uh,
- 25:06Speaker 5: his whole demeanor about the game. I mean, you're not
- 25:09Speaker 5: going to rattle the guy. I mean, he's you don't
- 25:11Speaker 5: fluster c J. Stroud, You just don't.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Bryce Young might turn out to be good the first
- 25:16Speaker 1: pick in the draft, but we know that the second
- 25:18Speaker 1: pick in the draft is already good.
- 25:20Speaker 5: Yeah, we know this guy's got a got a right
- 25:23Speaker 5: right future. I mean, just like seeing and tape before
- 25:28Speaker 5: the game, I mean, his throwing motion is very compact
- 25:31Speaker 5: and it's very powerful. He's got a rubber arm and
- 25:33Speaker 5: man he puts some RPMs on it and it is accurate.
- 25:36Speaker 5: He just he puts the ball in very, very good spots.
- 25:39Speaker 5: There's no doubt.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Did we decide that the Bengals were back among the
- 25:43Speaker 1: elite too soon? Or was this just a blip and
- 25:47Speaker 1: they are still kind of what we were thinking they
- 25:49Speaker 1: were going into the game.
- 25:50Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I think I think the uh, the
- 25:54Speaker 5: Houston Texans are a little bit better than I was
- 25:56Speaker 5: given him credit for. In my mind, I really believe that.
- 25:58Speaker 5: I mean, they're one and three on the year on
- 26:01Speaker 5: the road, and they went to Jacksonville and beat a
- 26:03Speaker 5: good Jacksonville team, a division leader, by twenty points, so
- 26:06Speaker 5: they're capable of that. But then they'd lose, you know,
- 26:09Speaker 5: game by two to a team they shouldn't really lose to,
- 26:12Speaker 5: and you think, now there's some inconsistencies there. But I mean,
- 26:15Speaker 5: to win the games the way they've won the last
- 26:17Speaker 5: two football games, that builds it, That builds a ton
- 26:20Speaker 5: of confidence. I thought after that win last week, they'd
- 26:24Speaker 5: either have a stinker or you know, feel like they
- 26:26Speaker 5: were legit. Well they felt like they were legit. I mean,
- 26:29Speaker 5: you can see the confidence building in that football team
- 26:32Speaker 5: and I mean they have a back rush for one
- 26:36Speaker 5: hundred and fifty yards when coming into the game as
- 26:40Speaker 5: a team, you haven't even averaged ninety yards a game.
- 26:42Speaker 5: To me, that that was the striking thing in that
- 26:45Speaker 5: football game was how well they controlled the ground game
- 26:49Speaker 5: and made life a lot easier for CJ.
- 26:51Speaker 7: Stroud. There's no doubt the.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Bengals couldn't stop to run the first few weeks. Part
- 26:55Speaker 1: of that was that the offense couldn't stay on the field.
- 26:57Speaker 1: But I kind of thought they had it fixed. Clearly
- 27:00Speaker 1: they don't.
- 27:01Speaker 5: Yeah, they certainly didn't in this game, and I got
- 27:04Speaker 5: to give the Texans Texans credit once again. I mean
- 27:06Speaker 5: those guys were finishing blocks. I mean you have big
- 27:09Speaker 5: lineman like Tunsel down the field like five six yards,
- 27:11Speaker 5: you know, sustaining contact and finishing blocks. I mean, this
- 27:14Speaker 5: game was important to him. It was significant to him.
- 27:17Speaker 5: You could you could tell. I think I think they
- 27:21Speaker 5: probably they probably, you know, defensively got shoot out a
- 27:26Speaker 5: little bit for giving up the number of points they
- 27:28Speaker 5: gave up, you know, to a football team. They shouldn't
- 27:30Speaker 5: have given up those points too. And I think that
- 27:33Speaker 5: they probably had a difficult week of practice in terms
- 27:36Speaker 5: of being hard coached, and they responded, man, they came
- 27:41Speaker 5: out and played today.
- 27:42Speaker 7: But I agree.
- 27:43Speaker 5: I do think you know, the temple of games are
- 27:48Speaker 5: set in the trenches, and I thought that the Houston
- 27:50Speaker 5: Texans set the temple in the trenches.
- 27:52Speaker 1: The Bengals have had one of the better defenses in
- 27:54Speaker 1: the league for the past few years. They've only got
- 27:56Speaker 1: one pro bowler on it, Trey Hendrickson. Cam Taylor britt
- 27:59Speaker 1: Is to send into the conversation four interceptions in the
- 28:02Speaker 1: last five games, and they have no chance to pull
- 28:05Speaker 1: out a miracle win if not for the play he
- 28:07Speaker 1: made with a little less than four minutes to go.
- 28:09Speaker 5: Absolutely, and I talked to him a little bit after
- 28:13Speaker 5: the game and he said that he played the same
- 28:15Speaker 5: route poorly the time before he had to face it,
- 28:19Speaker 5: and they made a play on him that he felt
- 28:21Speaker 5: like they shouldn't have made, and when it came back
- 28:24Speaker 5: the second time, it was like, Okay, well, shame on
- 28:27Speaker 5: me the first time, but I'm over that. Shame on
- 28:29Speaker 5: you this time. And he undercut the route, saw it
- 28:32Speaker 5: unfolding again and made a play on it. He's he's again,
- 28:37Speaker 5: He's legit. He's the real deal. I think he might
- 28:40Speaker 5: have had a close to nine tackles combined on top
- 28:44Speaker 5: of that interception. I mean, this guy plays with a
- 28:46Speaker 5: physicality that is rare for a corner. I mean he
- 28:50Speaker 5: hits a ton. He's one of those guys that packs
- 28:53Speaker 5: a solid punch, There's no question.
- 28:56Speaker 1: So the Ravens had a fourteen point fourth quarter lead
- 28:58Speaker 1: at home against the Cleveland and lost on a late
- 29:01Speaker 1: field goal. The Bengals lose ground to Cleveland and Pittsburgh.
- 29:05Speaker 1: They have fallen into the basement in the division, but
- 29:09Speaker 1: there's still a game and a half behind the first
- 29:10Speaker 1: place team, the Ravens, and they'll face the face I
- 29:12Speaker 1: had to head on Thursday night.
- 29:14Speaker 5: Yeah, that's going to be a very interesting battle. Short
- 29:16Speaker 5: week for both teams coming off tough losses. Ravens come
- 29:21Speaker 5: off of division loss at home at their place. It's
- 29:25Speaker 5: almost like, man, can they lose two division games in
- 29:28Speaker 5: a row, two division games at home in less than
- 29:33Speaker 5: a calendar week. I mean, I got to think, so
- 29:36Speaker 5: Bengals got to think. So Bengal's got to get ready
- 29:38Speaker 5: for that. They've already lost to the Baltimore Ravens here
- 29:41Speaker 5: in Cincinnati, So this becomes a megagame and I know
- 29:45Speaker 5: the guys understand, players understand the importance of this football game,
- 29:49Speaker 5: and I honestly don't think they were looking past the
- 29:51Speaker 5: Houston Texans for this Baltimore Ravens game. I really don't.
- 29:55Speaker 5: I think more credit has to go to the way
- 29:57Speaker 5: the Houston Texans played in football game. I mean they
- 30:01Speaker 5: went out and took it in a lot of ways,
- 30:03Speaker 5: and you got to tip your cap to him.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Cincinnati is an early three and a half point underdog
- 30:09Speaker 1: for Thursday night's game in Baltimore. The Ravens are thirty
- 30:12Speaker 1: five and seventeen in prime time under John Harbaugh, a
- 30:16Speaker 1: six seventy three winning percentage. Finally, time for this week's
- 30:21Speaker 1: fun fact segment, where you get to know the person
- 30:24Speaker 1: under the pads. Time for some fun facts with rookie
- 30:28Speaker 1: safety Jordan Battle out of the University of Alabama. After
- 30:31Speaker 1: going up just north of Miami, Florida. I read that
- 30:34Speaker 1: your dad signed you up for track when you were
- 30:36Speaker 1: four and football at the age of six. Was he
- 30:39Speaker 1: an athlete and what did you get from him?
- 30:42Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, he was an athlete as well.
- 30:45Speaker 12: Just growing up having him in my corner, having him
- 30:48Speaker 12: my mom, be my guidance, my guidance counselors. I'll be
- 30:52Speaker 12: my coach just every year, just growing and being able
- 30:56Speaker 12: to have my dad in my life coaching me whatever
- 31:00Speaker 12: sport I did.
- 31:01Speaker 7: Uh, except for track, That's probably the only.
- 31:03Speaker 12: Sport he really stayed away from, but he did come
- 31:05Speaker 12: to all the track meets. But football, basketball, Uh, those
- 31:09Speaker 12: are those are his sports. So uh whenever I played
- 31:12Speaker 12: those sports, he was, you know on me, niddy and gritty.
- 31:15Speaker 7: Uh.
- 31:15Speaker 12: So you know, growing up in my house, it was
- 31:18Speaker 12: it was fun, very hard working. Uh times times you
- 31:22Speaker 12: know you all cry, you know because you're doing the
- 31:24Speaker 12: extra work when you're a kid because you don't understand.
- 31:26Speaker 12: But when you grow up, you can see it all
- 31:28Speaker 12: pays off. So yeah, I'm thankful I have my dad
- 31:31Speaker 12: in my life.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Which football always your favorite?
- 31:35Speaker 12: I would say, I mean track was like the first favorite,
- 31:38Speaker 12: and then like I played football first before I played basketball,
- 31:42Speaker 12: But basketball is kind of like my second favorite.
- 31:45Speaker 7: Then football is like the third, like the last.
- 31:48Speaker 12: But you know, I think when I got to high school,
- 31:51Speaker 12: like freshman year high school, that's when I started to
- 31:54Speaker 12: take football like the most serious and that's when I
- 31:56Speaker 12: started to develop the more fun, the more I mean,
- 32:00Speaker 12: I just started to feel like football was more fun
- 32:03Speaker 12: than basketball was.
- 32:04Speaker 7: Even though I was playing basketball.
- 32:05Speaker 12: In high school and running track, I feel like football
- 32:09Speaker 12: is the most fun sport for me.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Jeorgan. You mentioned your high school Saint Thomas Aquinas in
- 32:14Speaker 1: Fort Lauderdale, a well known football powerhouse former Bengals. Do
- 32:18Speaker 1: you Havevonni Bernard and Gino Atkins played there? The Bosa
- 32:20Speaker 1: brothers played there. Do you have high school teammates that
- 32:24Speaker 1: are playing in the NFL right now?
- 32:26Speaker 7: Uh? Yeah, I have a few.
- 32:27Speaker 12: I know Nick Benito over at Denver and Denver two
- 32:31Speaker 12: at the Chargers of sante Cem Junior and Joshua Palmer.
- 32:36Speaker 7: And I know I have one at.
- 32:37Speaker 12: Uh the Eagles, Tyler Stein who played with me at
- 32:41Speaker 12: BEMA as well for his last year. Yeah, that's those
- 32:45Speaker 12: are the ones I played with in high school. It's
- 32:47Speaker 12: like five of us. I think, Yeah, that's ridiculous.
- 32:50Speaker 1: I don't even know if you realize how ridiculous that is.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Is it almost like playing for a college team there.
- 32:57Speaker 7: Uh yeah, it is.
- 32:57Speaker 12: I feel like the coacher and all the coach just
- 33:00Speaker 12: around there.
- 33:01Speaker 7: Uh, that they build up. You know.
- 33:02Speaker 12: I had Jason Taylor as my kind of like my
- 33:05Speaker 12: DC my DIVERSI coordinator at Saint Thomas. Uh, Sam Madison
- 33:09Speaker 12: was my dB coach. Uh, so I had guys who
- 33:11Speaker 12: played in the league. So I had guys who knew
- 33:13Speaker 12: who knew what it took to get to the next level.
- 33:16Speaker 7: And then after that, so you could.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Have played college football just about anywhere. You originally chose
- 33:21Speaker 1: Ohio State, then changed to Alabama. Why did you change? Uh?
- 33:26Speaker 12: That was it was I mean it was pretty like
- 33:28Speaker 12: simple for me. Uh, coach that was the year coach
- 33:31Speaker 12: Irban May had resigned. And uh that's after that, I know,
- 33:35Speaker 12: coach Ryan Day and all the other coaches, Uh, they
- 33:38Speaker 12: came down right after that happened. They let me know
- 33:41Speaker 12: that everything was gonna be fine. And turned out that
- 33:44Speaker 12: all the defensive court, all the difsive coaches had left
- 33:47Speaker 12: as well. And when that happened, that's when I had
- 33:49Speaker 12: opened up my recruitment and again and then Georgia. It
- 33:52Speaker 12: was out of Georgian and Alabama after that. And then, uh,
- 33:56Speaker 12: you know, I couldn't say no to coach Aban. He
- 33:58Speaker 12: came to my house. We had a good little conversation
- 34:01Speaker 12: about and I like that he kept it real with
- 34:03Speaker 12: me about you know, playing time and everything that everything
- 34:05Speaker 12: was going to be, you know, Aaron not given and
- 34:08Speaker 12: that's exactly what it was, and he gave it to me.
- 34:10Speaker 7: Shut up.
- 34:11Speaker 1: So if I read this correctly, in the high school
- 34:13Speaker 1: recruiting rankings, you were rated as the number two safety
- 34:15Speaker 1: in the country and your current teammate Dax Hill was
- 34:19Speaker 1: number one. Has that come up since you've arrived in Cincinnati.
- 34:22Speaker 7: Uh no, I do.
- 34:23Speaker 12: We haven't talked about it, but I was thinking about
- 34:26Speaker 12: it and I was like, yeah, I kind of mentioned it.
- 34:28Speaker 12: It wasn't like that, but like I was like, yeah,
- 34:31Speaker 12: we were both like top savities coming out of this
- 34:33Speaker 12: jab I mean, coming out of our class. And I
- 34:36Speaker 12: was like, yeah, it's kind of cool that we were
- 34:37Speaker 12: the number one in two staties coming out in high
- 34:39Speaker 12: school and now we're on the same team. I thought
- 34:42Speaker 12: that to myself, and I knew my dad. I think
- 34:44Speaker 12: my dad was the one who I reminded me too,
- 34:46Speaker 12: because he remember, you know, he remembers about everything, so
- 34:49Speaker 12: if I don't remember, I know he will. So yeah,
- 34:51Speaker 12: it was kind of cool to see that we both
- 34:53Speaker 12: on the same team.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Now we're doing fun facts with Jordan Battle. It is
- 34:57Speaker 1: highly unusual to start as a freshman for next Saban
- 35:00Speaker 1: you did you started for four years. What do you
- 35:03Speaker 1: respect most about coach Saban?
- 35:06Speaker 12: Yeah, I just love how straight up he is like
- 35:09Speaker 12: with his guys. I love how how how the type
- 35:13Speaker 12: of coach he is, how he's always on us.
- 35:15Speaker 7: He doesn't let us get comfortable.
- 35:16Speaker 12: Whether it's a win, whether there's a good play, where
- 35:20Speaker 12: there's a bad play. You know you see you see
- 35:22Speaker 12: it on the on the tape all the time, you
- 35:24Speaker 12: see it on videos all the time where if a
- 35:26Speaker 12: god makes a bad play, you see him come come
- 35:28Speaker 12: up in the screen somewhere yether than that.
- 35:30Speaker 7: That guy.
- 35:31Speaker 12: Uh, you gotta know that it's all love and he
- 35:34Speaker 12: does it out of the kindness of his heart because
- 35:35Speaker 12: he knows the ability we have in us. And although
- 35:38Speaker 12: some players don't realize what their talent, what talent, what
- 35:42Speaker 12: their talent means to coach, or what their talent can
- 35:45Speaker 12: be coach. I think helps people, you know, come out
- 35:48Speaker 12: of their selves, come out of their shelves, just players,
- 35:51Speaker 12: and you know, become that great player that they can be.
- 35:53Speaker 12: Eno fel like he helped me do that, So it's
- 35:55Speaker 12: a true freshman.
- 35:55Speaker 1: In twenty nineteen, you played in a wild game against LSU,
- 35:59Speaker 1: final score forty six forty one in favor of the Tigers,
- 36:02Speaker 1: led by a quarterback who went on to win the
- 36:04Speaker 1: Heights been Joe Burrow. He threw for three thirteen and
- 36:07Speaker 1: ran for sixty four in that game. What did you
- 36:09Speaker 1: learn that day about your current teammate Joey Franchise.
- 36:13Speaker 12: I think that day I realized, uh that that was
- 36:16Speaker 12: gonna be one of the NFL's best quarterback on one day.
- 36:20Speaker 7: And obviously that day has came.
- 36:23Speaker 12: But but yeah, that was that was like my first
- 36:26Speaker 12: big test, uh in college. Obviously on the the side
- 36:31Speaker 12: of the ball, they had Joe Burrow. Justin Jefferson Clyde,
- 36:35Speaker 12: they had Jamar my Fault.
- 36:39Speaker 7: I should have mentioned him after Joe. Uh, yeah, they
- 36:41Speaker 7: had Jamar.
- 36:42Speaker 12: But yeah, that was that was my first big test,
- 36:44Speaker 12: as you know, as a freshman, and I kind of
- 36:48Speaker 12: I kind of looked at that game and I was like, wow,
- 36:50Speaker 12: the amount of players that were on that field, you know,
- 36:53Speaker 12: at the same time as I was it's just a
- 36:55Speaker 12: blessing and only good. Only I mean, this is motivation
- 36:59Speaker 12: for me to you know, want to keep going, you know,
- 37:01Speaker 12: and get further in life.
- 37:03Speaker 1: So you lost that game, but the following year you
- 37:05Speaker 1: didn't lose anny and won the national championship, beating Ohio
- 37:08Speaker 1: State fifty two to twenty four in the national championship game.
- 37:11Speaker 1: What are your most vivid memories of winning that national
- 37:14Speaker 1: championship not far from home because that game is in Miami.
- 37:17Speaker 12: Yeah, that was a I mean, I mean, let's start
- 37:20Speaker 12: with I didn't play the whole game because I got
- 37:22Speaker 12: kicked out in the first and half for a targeting call.
- 37:25Speaker 12: But it was fun. It was fun while I was in.
- 37:28Speaker 12: It was fun when I was out. I know, when
- 37:31Speaker 12: I came out, I was just you know, hyping up
- 37:33Speaker 12: the guys because I was just, you know, beggers, being
- 37:36Speaker 12: that leader off the field that the didn't knowew I
- 37:38Speaker 12: could be and that they knew I was. So I
- 37:41Speaker 12: didn't want to show too much emotion, even though you know,
- 37:42Speaker 12: I was at home and I didn't want to play,
- 37:44Speaker 12: but just getting to win was all I wanted, and
- 37:47Speaker 12: we got to win.
- 37:48Speaker 7: I just felt like the the wave. It just hit me.
- 37:52Speaker 12: It was like wow, like I just want a national
- 37:54Speaker 12: championship in college football. This is something you watch growing up,
- 37:58Speaker 12: something you don't use, something you dream and most people
- 38:01Speaker 12: don't even get a chance to play or make it
- 38:03Speaker 12: that far. And uh, just being on that that that stage,
- 38:06Speaker 12: in that spotlight, you know.
- 38:07Speaker 7: It was it was fun. It was a great experience,
- 38:09Speaker 7: something I'll never forget.
- 38:10Speaker 1: I'm trying to visualize the targeting call, could call or
- 38:15Speaker 1: did you get robbed?
- 38:18Speaker 7: I mean, I would say it was a horrible call.
- 38:20Speaker 7: You know, I'm not gonna tell them. I'm not gonna
- 38:21Speaker 7: say it's a good call, but uh.
- 38:23Speaker 12: You know it's it's it's to say I understand the
- 38:27Speaker 12: you know the importance of the rule and protecting not
- 38:29Speaker 12: only the person being hit, but the person's doing the hitting.
- 38:32Speaker 12: So uh yeah, I guess there's I mean, a good
- 38:35Speaker 12: call on what they would say.
- 38:36Speaker 1: We're doing fun facts with Jordan Battle. After a tremendous
- 38:39Speaker 1: four year career at Alabama, you were selecting the third
- 38:42Speaker 1: round by the Bengals in the draft. Describe your draft
- 38:44Speaker 1: experience kind.
- 38:45Speaker 12: Of nerve record at first, Uh, you know, just sitting there,
- 38:48Speaker 12: you know, waiting for that call. But you know, I
- 38:51Speaker 12: feel like me, you know, I handled it pretty well
- 38:54Speaker 12: because you know, I'm a guy who just who wants
- 38:56Speaker 12: the opportunity, you know, to to to play.
- 38:59Speaker 7: And I remember us.
- 39:01Speaker 12: I remember us, me and my my friends from home,
- 39:04Speaker 12: just playing cards, you know, and just having fun. You know,
- 39:08Speaker 12: we had the draft through, just watching the draft and everything,
- 39:10Speaker 12: you know, just trying to get everything, you know, out
- 39:13Speaker 12: of my mind. I haven't, you know, got that call yet,
- 39:15Speaker 12: but I just remember the phone ringing all we were
- 39:18Speaker 12: playing uo.
- 39:20Speaker 7: And just that excitement that just pour over me.
- 39:24Speaker 12: And then when I knew it was the being was,
- 39:25Speaker 12: I got even more excited because I was like, Yeah,
- 39:27Speaker 12: this is a this is this is the right spot
- 39:29Speaker 12: because this is another winning organization that I've been a
- 39:33Speaker 12: part of now because I was at Saint Thomas, I
- 39:36Speaker 12: won uh to two state championships. I was at Alabama
- 39:40Speaker 12: Powerhouse one national championship. Now I'm at the Cincinnati Bengals
- 39:44Speaker 12: where we can compete for a Super Bowl every year.
- 39:46Speaker 12: So it was like, yeah, this is this is the
- 39:48Speaker 12: right spot.
- 39:49Speaker 7: For me, and I know, I know God made the
- 39:51Speaker 7: right decisions.
- 39:52Speaker 1: I look forward to you adding a Super Bowl ring
- 39:54Speaker 1: to your collection of championship rings. Time for a few
- 39:57Speaker 1: wild card topics now with Jordan Battle, Who's your all
- 40:00Speaker 1: time favorite athlete in any sport?
- 40:04Speaker 12: I like Lebron because because the guy, the type of
- 40:07Speaker 12: guy he is, the type of dad he is the
- 40:11Speaker 12: type of father he is loves his kids, always always
- 40:14Speaker 12: going going out his way to make their games, his
- 40:17Speaker 12: son's games, or be there for his high school that
- 40:21Speaker 12: he that he just built in Ohio.
- 40:24Speaker 7: So I would say, yeah him.
- 40:26Speaker 12: He's a great, great father figure, a great businessman off
- 40:29Speaker 12: the off the court.
- 40:31Speaker 7: So yeah, definitely definitely Lebron.
- 40:33Speaker 1: He's definitely the total package. Is there anything about you
- 40:36Speaker 1: that not many people know about, such as a hidden talent?
- 40:41Speaker 12: I don't know if this is like hid him, but
- 40:43Speaker 12: I don't think people think I can dance. I think
- 40:45Speaker 12: I'm a good I think I'm a good dancer. I
- 40:48Speaker 12: think I have to show the world one day.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Well, I look forward to your first NFL interception then,
- 40:53Speaker 1: because I assume there's going to be some sort of
- 40:55Speaker 1: good dancing celebration that follows.
- 40:57Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 40:57Speaker 12: Yeah, for sure, the first the first NFL session would
- 41:00Speaker 12: definitely definitely need a celebration.
- 41:02Speaker 1: With it aside from professional football player. Have you had
- 41:07Speaker 1: any other jobs, even part time jobs?
- 41:10Speaker 7: Never? Not ever? I don't. I don't. I never never
- 41:14Speaker 7: crossed my mind.
- 41:15Speaker 12: To to, you know, go have a job, like even
- 41:18Speaker 12: in college. At first, like I was gonna do like
- 41:22Speaker 12: door dashing, but I was like, I just don't take
- 41:25Speaker 12: too much time. I ain't gonna be able to you know,
- 41:27Speaker 12: look at him or you know, do something that that
- 41:30Speaker 12: could be more productive.
- 41:31Speaker 7: And more more.
- 41:32Speaker 12: You know, I didn't I was gonna do door dashing,
- 41:35Speaker 12: but I didn't do it. I didn't know if people
- 41:37Speaker 12: were gonna know me or not, you know, coming up
- 41:39Speaker 12: to their doorsteps.
- 41:41Speaker 7: But I just yeah, I never had a job.
- 41:44Speaker 1: Your job was preparing for what you're doing now.
- 41:46Speaker 7: Yeah, literally, and then and I all came in. It
- 41:48Speaker 7: was perfect.
- 41:49Speaker 12: So it was like you don't need to I don't
- 41:51Speaker 12: need a job anymore, and kind of doing your job
- 41:53Speaker 12: in college.
- 41:55Speaker 1: All right. Final question for Jordan Battle. This one's a
- 41:57Speaker 1: little bit deep. If you could meet anybody in history,
- 42:02Speaker 1: living or deceased, athlete, entertainer, statesman, who would that person be.
- 42:09Speaker 12: Hmm, that's a good question. But when you asked, it
- 42:13Speaker 12: was like two people who came to mind.
- 42:15Speaker 7: It was.
- 42:17Speaker 12: MLK Malta the King was the first one, but then
- 42:20Speaker 12: it was Joel Washington because I like the way he
- 42:24Speaker 12: acts and I like all his movies, and I would
- 42:27Speaker 12: just I would love to have a conversation with him,
- 42:29Speaker 12: just to you know, see see how he plays that
- 42:31Speaker 12: role so well? How did How does it not affect
- 42:34Speaker 12: him like in real life? Like with the roles he
- 42:37Speaker 12: played in movies, and it's mostly mostly action movies that
- 42:41Speaker 12: he plays in them.
- 42:41Speaker 7: But I just like he's a great actor, a great
- 42:44Speaker 7: human being.
- 42:45Speaker 1: Might be my favorite actor, So that's a heck of
- 42:48Speaker 1: a choice. I'm a big Denzel guy as well.
- 42:50Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, that's my favorite actor for sure.
- 42:52Speaker 1: Jordan. This has been fun. Glad to have you in Cincinnati.
- 42:55Speaker 1: Appreciate your time. Best of the rest of the year, sir.
- 42:57Speaker 7: Thank you.
