Transcript
- 0:07Welcome back to another edition of the Just in Time podcast.
- 0:10I'm your host, Justin, and as always, we've got Will.
- 0:14So about my guy. What's up?
- 0:18I'm good brother, just really great weekend.
- 0:20A baseball man, just like non conference competition, you
- 0:23know, really test the guys. They really they really
- 0:26impressed us for the most part. They really would had a dominant
- 0:30showing. But we'll get to the we'll get
- 0:32to yesterday and the second though.
- 0:33But I just want to enjoy the the winds where we.
- 0:35Can the Jacks Classic live like Lube Foundation tournament
- 0:42champs your LSU Tigers? Yes man, we we had some.
- 0:46I love them there. It was nice.
- 0:49It was nice. No complaints there.
- 0:51Yeah, man, that was a beautiful ballpark.
- 0:55Really easy place to get to get in and out of.
- 1:00Hotel was nice. Just an over.
- 1:02The atmosphere was really good. They had the PBR over there too,
- 1:08which was good. They had a lot of stuff going
- 1:10on. You know the games were good
- 1:12that some of the early games though, they had just restarted
- 1:15the field. So during some of the early
- 1:18games, every time they had to play on the infield, it felt
- 1:21like they were going out there and patting the sod down
- 1:25impassioned holes. But you know, our guys got
- 1:30started on Wednesday last week and made quick work quick work
- 1:34of. The current.
- 1:37Nicholas State So we've got Zach Cowan with a win and reckon with
- 1:40the save. We scored five in the first, one
- 1:43in the second, two in the sixth, one in the 7th and then three in
- 1:46the eighth off of a bomb by John Pearson.
- 1:50Yeah, that's indeed yeah. Yeah, I mean, pitching look good
- 1:54that day for the midweek, you know, innings wise, let's see
- 1:58how many pitchers we used. We used 4 pitchers, but 123455
- 2:04pitchers. I'm sorry, you know, strikes to
- 2:06walks not that bad, you know, and.
- 2:10We talked about trying to get efficient.
- 2:12You know, that's the one thing I want to see.
- 2:14That's what we were talked about last week.
- 2:16Can they cut it down some with the with the pitch counts?
- 2:19Yeah, I tell you what we are missing in my opinion, infield
- 2:24and left field. Yes.
- 2:26You know, these teams are getting double s.
- 2:29Those teams are getting double s and triples off of balls hitting
- 2:32the left field corner that he would have beat at by the time
- 2:36they get to first base and had the ball in infield.
- 2:38When they get halfway to second, they would think about it and
- 2:42they would go back, you know. But guys like Brown Curiel
- 2:47stepped it up this game. Brown Caraway hit a Grand Slam
- 2:52right after I had said last episode that it was a borderline
- 2:57call for me on, I think, offense.
- 3:01Yeah, between. Him and Dardar, and as soon as I
- 3:04sit down in that stadium, the first thing he does is hit a
- 3:07Grand Slam. Like he took it.
- 3:09He took it personal. Like Dardo took it personal with
- 3:11me too. So like, he's, yeah, we'll get
- 3:14to that. We'll get to that in a second.
- 3:16Yeah. So, you know, we get that 12 to
- 3:18one victory on Wednesday and they fly out to go to
- 3:24Jacksonville. All right, I'm saying that
- 3:27because all of this is going to play in later.
- 3:30Yes. So then we go to Jacksonville
- 3:32and I'm going to go through this because I think this is the
- 3:35game. Yeah, OK.
- 3:36This is going to go through this inning by inning.
- 3:40All right, so first we go material single through the
- 3:45right side. Brown flied out.
- 3:48This park played huge. OK, it played huge.
- 3:54So when I get to this, just keep that in mind when I say some of
- 3:57these home runs over the next three games because I think we
- 4:01only had a couple. So we've got Brown flied out,
- 4:04Pearson struck out swinging, then York single to left center
- 4:09and Curial advance to 3rd, Milan single to right, scoring Curio.
- 4:17That ended that inning. We were up 1, nothing.
- 4:19So then Cason Evans comes in and we go ground out, a pop out in
- 4:26the ground out looking good. We go top of the second, Aaron
- 4:32BD single to the right side to right field.
- 4:34Dart Art popped up and then Simpson hit to a double play.
- 4:37Indiana gets up in the bottom of the second strike out a ground
- 4:41out and then a line out to Cason Evans.
- 4:44We nothing to it. All right, LSU comes up to bat.
- 4:50We score one off of we get a single to the catcher from
- 4:54Caraway. Ariel gets on on a fielder's
- 4:57choice and they throw Caraway out at 2nd a drop foul ball.
- 5:05Then Brown walked Curiel advances the second Brown
- 5:09advances the second Curiel on A and Curiel goes to 3rd on a
- 5:12bulk, which honestly, I still don't to right now have any
- 5:17explanation on that bulk. I was there.
- 5:19I looked right at it. I didn't see it.
- 5:21I didn't see it, but we got to run so that's all that matters
- 5:26in New York, flight out to center field in score Curiel
- 5:29from 3rd and then Milan reached on a fielder's choice and
- 5:34Pearson was out at 2nd. So here we go the bottom of the
- 5:38third. This is where Casey Evans gets
- 5:39in a little bit trouble. Frost single to the pitcher and
- 5:44I think this is what threw him off because it hit right here on
- 5:48his not on his throne side, but he'd hit right here on his glove
- 5:51side. I thought he made another
- 5:53fantastic play, but then Decker grounded out to short and here
- 5:59we go with the reviews. They start reviewing they he's
- 6:02out on the thing. Then we got to walk a mound
- 6:05visit. Another walk and we put Williams
- 6:08in advanced the third. Fraud, Sorry.
- 6:11We got an advanced 2nd and advanced the third.
- 6:14Another mountain visit. Then we've got a single through
- 6:18the left side of the infield to score a run.
- 6:21Then another run scored on an interference.
- 6:27Not a not the interference call. This was a call, apparently when
- 6:32Aaron Beatty probably should have let that ball go foul.
- 6:35Like I said, we had a lot of mental mistakes in this game and
- 6:39a lot of mental. Just a few chinks in the armor
- 6:43here and there, you know? Yeah, and it started here.
- 6:47But this one was called. I think they said it was a
- 6:50throwing error, but I think it was called on our end.
- 6:53And then I think another run scored on when he threw that
- 6:57ball, it went underneath the got caught underneath the fence
- 7:02behind home plate. I think that was was the
- 7:05official calling. That's what I was told.
- 7:07So rough inning there. We get strikeouts strikeout to
- 7:11in the inning. Then nothing for LSU in the top
- 7:13of the fourth, nothing for Notre Dame in the bottom of the
- 7:16fourth. Then LSU strikes back and gets 2
- 7:21on a mile and single. And I think a couple, yeah, a
- 7:23couple of walks to blow the bases and we get two runs in
- 7:28that inning. They don't get anything in the
- 7:31bottom of the fifth, scoreless 6th inning, we don't get
- 7:34anything, but they get 2 cross in the bottom of the seventh on
- 7:37a throwing error. Bunch of mental mistakes here,
- 7:40you know. Yeah, as you RIP and you round
- 7:43them off. Man, this look.
- 7:44Yeah, y'all are going to see me doing this weird thing with my
- 7:47hand. It's because this camera is
- 7:48zoomed in on my face and I don't can't figure out it won't go
- 7:52back to where we need it to be, but whatever.
- 7:56So 7th we don't get anything off of mile and lead off double in a
- 8:01walk and then we just we strike out looking and fly out in the
- 8:06ground out. But this ground out by door door
- 8:11in this inning. I've never seen a team who's the
- 8:15base path as much as they did. Not the base path, I should say
- 8:21Debase as much as Indiana did in the first two days of this
- 8:25tournament. They get one that perfectly is a
- 8:28line shot and a double anywhere else.
- 8:30Hits off a first base and bounces to the second baseman
- 8:33coming at it to get out at first.
- 8:35Then in game their Game 2 the next day, they hit one up the
- 8:39middle of the second was a tailor made double play ball
- 8:42bounces off a second and shoots in the right field, you know.
- 8:45But they scored two off of singles and well placed plays.
- 8:49Here we go, the top of the eighth inning.
- 8:51York crushed it. I mean, I don't know if you saw
- 8:55any of it or saw the home run or anything.
- 8:57Yeah, Oh yeah, He got all of it. He got all.
- 9:02Of it and he hit it over and that thing was a straight up and
- 9:07I think the home run rule is it had to go above the yellow line.
- 9:09They said it went above the yellow line and I don't like the
- 9:13brick. On the right side they had the
- 9:15brick and stuff, yeah. Yeah, I looked at that video and
- 9:20still cannot figure out where that ball went.
- 9:25I still. Can't figure that out, He.
- 9:30Massive started us off for what would be a nine run inning for
- 9:34us because that was a three run home run, but our double S to
- 9:40right field and BD advanced to third mile and scored.
- 9:44Reeves singled to second base through a beautiful bunt.
- 9:47Not enough to get him on our list, but that was a beautiful
- 9:50bunt, you know? Then Brown grounds out to 1st,
- 9:54grounds out to the pitcher, but it still was enough to score us
- 9:56a run. Then Bronze singled to center
- 10:01and Curiel scored. Notre Dame did get 2 back in the
- 10:06bottom of the eighth, but that was Curiel line in the top of
- 10:10the knife. Curiel sack, flawed to right to
- 10:14score and BD to make it. I think the final was 14.
- 10:18This. Yeah.
- 10:18Yeah. So yeah, we, yeah, in Indiana,
- 10:21Indiana only had eight hits on the get.
- 10:23They scored seven runs or eight hits, which is impressive.
- 10:25But we had eighteen hits. And like you said, going back to
- 10:29what you were saying about the, it was we had three errors in
- 10:32the game. So it was a little sloppy.
- 10:33But I mean, just the ten runs in the bottom 2 innings, the last
- 10:36two innings of the 14 runs, I mean, that's that's about the
- 10:39clutches of the offensive performance you can get.
- 10:42Yeah, and I think I told my uncle this game LS us tendency
- 10:46to have to come back against these teams in the bottom of the
- 10:49the later innings of this games and put off big innings was
- 10:53going to come back to bite them one day.
- 10:56Yes. Oh yeah, I knew.
- 10:58But I've never seen so much sloppy play.
- 11:01We left 15 runners on base and had three errors.
- 11:06You know, by the way, for this game, Guidry got the win and
- 11:10nobody got a save. So, you know, let's.
- 11:13Move on, team win, I'm good. Yeah, we're going to go on to
- 11:18the next game. They look pretty good in this
- 11:23one. We had one error which look,
- 11:27Dardar made a fantastic play on that ball for this era, had more
- 11:33than enough time to set his feet.
- 11:35I don't know if it was like the sod in the infield or what was
- 11:38going on, but he threw that ball away.
- 11:40So we had 12 hit nine runs on twelve hits in one air.
- 11:43We left nine on base. Cooper more with a fantastic was
- 11:49fantastic. Yeah, you know.
- 11:52Once again. Once again, he was just
- 11:55fantastic. Lights out.
- 11:57Got to give it to him, you know he was, he had 6 strikeouts and
- 12:02he walked one and gave up three in five and 2/3 innings pitched.
- 12:09But you know, we go through we didn't have nobody had anything
- 12:11in the 1st. We go to the second Simpson
- 12:16double down the line and Caraway double down the line.
- 12:19They just swapped places and we got some runs.
- 12:23Oh, and Dardar doubled to start his first hit back.
- 12:26So we had three double s and got two runs, so that's good.
- 12:31Notre Dame didn't do anything in the top of the inning.
- 12:34Bottom of the third. Dardar again single to right
- 12:37field, Milan was hit by a pitch, Brown singled, York singled.
- 12:43Aaron BD infield fly, Dardar single to right field, Serna
- 12:48single to right field scoring runs and then Simpson walk to
- 12:53bring in with the bases loaded to bring in a third run.
- 12:57So we got 3 in that inning, nothing for Notre Dame in the
- 13:00top of the inning. Aaron BD puts a bomb to dead
- 13:06center. It was 410 feet to the.
- 13:09Wall and he put it. Above on the batter's eye.
- 13:11That was a shot. Oh my goodness.
- 13:15It got a It got out of there in a hurry.
- 13:18What? Why are we?
- 13:20Yeah, and that was a two run shot.
- 13:23So we scored. We scored three in that inning
- 13:26or No, No, no, no, we scored two in that inning.
- 13:29I'm going to sort of keep going. Call this back.
- 13:34We go to the 5th inning, Notre Dame finally gets on the board
- 13:38with a single. Then LSU doesn't do anything.
- 13:41In the bottom of the inning Notre Dame gets on it two more
- 13:45on the board with A2 run shot to left center.
- 13:51But then here come the Tigers right back.
- 13:53Get 2 more. York's mile and scored on a York
- 13:57advanced to 2nd. Brown advanced to third mile and
- 14:00scored on a wild pitch. Serno walked in, advanced
- 14:05everyone so they know the bases loaded.
- 14:07Walked that, scored 2. Notre Dame gets one back on a
- 14:10walk with the bases loaded for in the third inning and then we
- 14:15get 2 strikeouts and a strikeout in the line out.
- 14:19Nothing for us in the bottom of the seventh.
- 14:21Then we go to the top of the inning and we strike out the
- 14:27side. Brown singles up the middle,
- 14:29Brown singles to center field. We didn't do anything in the
- 14:33bottom of the the 8th and in the top of the ninth we got three
- 14:37up, 3 down. You know, that was a good game.
- 14:39That was a complete team win. Just a complete team win.
- 14:42It was a good win. You know, look, we did all the
- 14:45small things, right? We didn't make too many bad
- 14:48mistakes. No mental mistakes, no errors.
- 14:50Mentally we just did what we had to do when we got the W, you
- 14:55know, that was a nice solid win. We didn't do too much.
- 15:01The ballpark played big. A lot of these fly outs were
- 15:05home runs everywhere else, you know.
- 15:07Then here we go. We got the for everybody
- 15:10wondering where Will went, we had some technical difficulties.
- 15:13He cut out. I'm just going to keep going and
- 15:15then I'll get his opinion on everything after he rejoins.
- 15:19So here we go. This game we've got the Sunday
- 15:25game, the 10 run rule game. We've got William Schmidt, our
- 15:29winner and Wicker was a loss. We go this was 10 run rule.
- 15:36We got 10 hits, played a playing game.
- 15:38We just left eight on base. Start going through this one.
- 15:42Nothing for anybody in the top of the first or the bottom of
- 15:45the first. Same in the second inning. 3rd
- 15:50inning we get a single and we score 1.
- 15:54Then Dardar flyed out and we got a sack to score Brown.
- 15:57Simpson advanced to 2nd and Aaron BD advanced to 3rd on a
- 16:01balk in Mile and scored on a balk.
- 16:03Nothing for Notre Dame, nothing for UCF.
- 16:05I'm sorry. In the bottom of the inning, top
- 16:08of the fourth, we don't do anything.
- 16:11Bottom of the fourth, nothing happens.
- 16:13Aaron BD another home run to left field, 32 RBI shot.
- 16:19Dardar walked, Simpson walked. WE Braun grounded out to third
- 16:23base on a sack bot to advance the runners and then Caraway
- 16:27flyed out to left center and scored.
- 16:29Dardar on a sack fly and Curio singled up the middle to score
- 16:32Simpson. Nothing in the bottom of the
- 16:36fifth, nothing in the 6th and here we go.
- 16:39LSU is batting in the top of the 7th.
- 16:43Curio double the center field and scored Braun and Simpson,
- 16:49then Brown singled through the right field to score score
- 16:52Harding and then nothing happened in the bottom of the
- 16:567th and LSU won that game 11 to nothing.
- 17:01That's why I like to see every day.
- 17:02Run rule. So before we go any further and
- 17:06hit tomorrow, yes, last night's game here were the all
- 17:09tournament Tigers in the infield.
- 17:10You've got Zach York, Steven Milam and Seth Dardar outfield.
- 17:14You had Jake Brown DH because Kate and Beatty struggle behind
- 17:18the plate all weekend long. But he did he was fantastic at
- 17:21the plate, Kate, Aaron Beatty and the MVP of the tournament
- 17:25was William Schmidt. Schmidt did a fantastic job.
- 17:29He needed that win and he needed a game like that.
- 17:35He needed an umpire and crew like that to help him out.
- 17:38You know, a bigger strike zone really helped him out and that's
- 17:43what we got. You know, they played four games
- 17:47up to this point and they got on the plane on Wednesday and flew
- 17:52to Jacksonville. Then they played those three
- 17:55games and on Sunday they got back on the plane and they went
- 17:59back to came back to Baton Rouge, had one day rest day,
- 18:04probably had to go to class, had a little practice and BP worked
- 18:07out. So I'm going to give them the
- 18:08benefit of the doubt with this one, you know, and we are going
- 18:12to talk about the disaster that was last night, which started
- 18:16off good. You know, we lost that game and
- 18:19the loss went to pass and Magnusius Miller got the win
- 18:23promisingly. We only had one error.
- 18:25We left nine on base. Let's just get into it.
- 18:29The first inning, curious singles to left field and then
- 18:34York homered to right field put us up two to nothing, and I was
- 18:37feeling pretty good at this point.
- 18:38But then here's where the trouble starts.
- 18:44Hit by pitch walk scores a run. A hit by a pitch scores a run,
- 18:50and then a single scores 2. Then they change pitches to when
- 18:55in the bottom of the second, they change pitches.
- 18:57LSU gets nothing. Scoreless inning.
- 19:00Scoreless inning. We get a single to right field
- 19:03to advance to 3rd. Magnes does that and scores
- 19:07three runs in this inning and they score another run off of
- 19:11throwing error by Jake Brown. They score again.
- 19:13They score again. They scratch 3 in this inning.
- 19:15Nothing for us in the fourth. In the 5th, Magnes goes down.
- 19:20Then we get 2 in the bottom of the fifth to bring us closer.
- 19:27The six we get one on a Pearson scores on a fly out by Curiel
- 19:32SAC fly 7th. We don't get anything, they
- 19:36don't get anything. We don't get anything.
- 19:38Then the 8th, Pearson brings us within one with a solo shot to
- 19:44left field and then nothing for us and we get one hit in the
- 19:48bottom of the ninth. And we followed McNeese 7, six
- 19:52to seven, seven to six, you know, not our best showing, but
- 19:57we had tournament MVPS. You know, I brought all of that
- 20:02up about the mental notes. I mean, the mental mistakes, you
- 20:06know, in the fatigue. And I've said all of that about
- 20:08them playing those games and coming back to those games,
- 20:11being on travel days. They were tired, they were
- 20:13tired. You know, they had a little few
- 20:15mental mistakes that they need to clear up pitching wise.
- 20:21We got to eliminate the walks, we got to throw strikes.
- 20:24You know, we need to play clean defense.
- 20:26We need to throw strikes, eliminate the walks, the bad
- 20:29pitches, the hit by pitches. I don't think we've ever hit
- 20:32that many people in a row or use that many pitchers.
- 20:37You know, I've got I don't have Will here with us, but I'm going
- 20:41to go into the powerhouse poles and hold on guys, I'm trying to
- 20:47work through this technical difficulty.
- 20:48Just give me one second and bear with me.
- 20:50All right, I was saying I don't have Will at the moment.
- 20:54He's not in. So what I'm going to do is just
- 21:00give us, I'm going to give his powerhouse pose for Week 2.
- 21:06I don't know his like I don't have his reasoning, but I'm
- 21:11going to just give you his powerhouse pose.
- 21:14Then I'm going to give you mine and give you the reason why.
- 21:21So for offense, for Will, he's got Caraway, Curiel and Dardar.
- 21:27I think that's one Caraway first, Curiel second, Dardar
- 21:323rd. At defense, he's got Aaron BD,
- 21:36one Mile and two Evans 3. And then pitching, he's got
- 21:41Schmidt, Sharon and Evans. Then for mine, and I will give
- 21:46you my reasons why. Offense, I've got Kate, Aaron
- 21:50BD. He's really good at the plate.
- 21:53He needs to make up and do some figure out some stuff like
- 21:57holding on to the ball, maybe not frame every pitch instead of
- 22:01stabbing at it. Let the pitch come to him.
- 22:04Hey, you back? Yeah.
- 22:07Yes Sir, like I said like that's the shit I'm there on it's own.
- 22:11So I'm not I'm not sure why it let me open it and then nice so
- 22:15that the update. Yeah, was it the update?
- 22:18Yeah, apparently. I mean, but they let me open it
- 22:20the first time when you sent it to me.
- 22:22So I was like, I'm not sure it should.
- 22:24That stuff should already be updated.
- 22:26Yeah, yeah, yeah. Sorry about that.
- 22:29Yeah, so I went ahead and that's fine.
- 22:33I went ahead. I didn't know if you were going
- 22:35to be back, so I just finished off the game Recaps.
- 22:38Yeah, gave the all tournament Tigers.
- 22:42I gave your powerhouse polls. So I'll let you go ahead and
- 22:46real quick and give your reasoning.
- 22:49All right, so like like, so I'll just go from my offense.
- 22:54You know, often you could just basically take your pick of the
- 22:56letter. You know, there was a dominant
- 22:57offense showing, you know, they've continued their trend on
- 23:00offense rather to do some. I know what I saw when you you
- 23:03know, I know before it went live, I know you had the the big
- 23:06three, R&B, New York and Brown. You know, it's tough to argue
- 23:09that. You know, it's like all the long
- 23:11shots, the moon balls, as you say.
- 23:13But I went a little different. You know, I went Carrie Caraway,
- 23:16Curielle and Dardar, you know, just I think Dardar narrowly
- 23:20missed for me last week. But like these three guys was
- 23:23very steady at the plate. You know, just the RB is better
- 23:26day, especially Curio had a better offensive showing this
- 23:29week. Well, this last week, these last
- 23:31several days. But like I said, offence was
- 23:34just so dominant. You could really just pick your
- 23:36pick your poison with the guys. You know, defensively, you know,
- 23:40there was more activity outside of the mound.
- 23:43So I went with Aaron Beatty, Milam and Evans.
- 23:45You know, like, you know, we both had both had the pitchers,
- 23:48you know, they had a lot of activity with the pop flies.
- 23:51So I just Marlin was still very steady.
- 23:53Aaron BD had a lot of throw outs.
- 23:55So just I like what I saw on the defensive side, you know,
- 23:59pitching, you know, I went with Schmidt, Sheeran and Evans.
- 24:03You know, Schmidt was this dominant, you know, the last the
- 24:06other day. So it was an easy choice for
- 24:08number 1. I went with Sheeran because I
- 24:11looked at, you know, even with his appearance and he had, he
- 24:14had a very solid showing in Jacksonville and last night with
- 24:17against McNeese, even though the team lost, he had them in
- 24:20position to come back and win. He kept McNeese off the
- 24:23scoreboard. He's really clutched down the
- 24:26stretch. That's what really gave me the
- 24:27ads with Sharon Evans again, just a really solid out and
- 24:32Cooper more, you know, narrowly missed.
- 24:34I think I feel like Evans was better, a little bit better on
- 24:37paper is with the statistics relative because they have the
- 24:40same amount of any production even.
- 24:42You know, I definitely was more on that on that note as well.
- 24:45But I think Sharon was really played clutch this week.
- 24:48Yeah. So like I said, I went with for
- 24:53offense. Like I said, I can't knock Aaron
- 24:56Beatty. I gave him it number one, just
- 24:59the production wise he was good. So number two and three could be
- 25:06almost interchangeable. I gave it to York because he had
- 25:09some clutch hits over the weekend and he started off
- 25:13scoring off last night with A2 run shot.
- 25:17But that shot I gave him the two spot because that shot in that
- 25:21tournament at that ballpark. Just that dude.
- 25:27He. Stopped, he stopped at 2nd and
- 25:29he was taking throwing his hands up to call time out to target
- 25:34and the umpire was sitting there like this dude, it's a home run,
- 25:37just go I. Love it so.
- 25:43I gave it to him, Brown. Brown, you know, was solid up
- 25:48until last night. I wrote my powerhouse pose
- 25:51before the McNeese game. He was solid up until last
- 25:54night. But here's where we've got a big
- 25:57difference when my our poles. Let's see if I can get him back
- 26:03before I talk about this. But we were hugely different
- 26:08with the defense. My guys for defense are Milam
- 26:13Evans and Sensen. I'll go my own because my own
- 26:17just, he makes everything look so easy.
- 26:18Plays that should you would think are just watching him or
- 26:22just easy ground balls and you know, you got easiness.
- 26:25He makes him look like that. He just makes him look like
- 26:27that. They're not that easy.
- 26:28They're difficult plays. You know, as much as my own
- 26:33makes it look like any of us fans can go out there and get
- 26:36out there and feel those ground balls, They're not like that.
- 26:39I can be. I got Simpson because he came in
- 26:42the left field and he just made two amazing throws.
- 26:47One of them should have been an outer.
- 26:49Serna could have held onto it at home plate and he takes somebody
- 26:53a second, you know, then I'll give it to Evans just because
- 26:56it's very rare you see a picture that's an athlete and can get
- 27:01down and play his field, his position.
- 27:04And he did it once and almost had it twice.
- 27:08But what I was saying before you cut out there, me and you were
- 27:11too. Like you have Aaron Beauty
- 27:13second. Aaron Beauty is not even in my
- 27:15top 10 for defensive players this week.
- 27:18The mental mistakes he made. Yeah, I think just like he
- 27:22can't. Hold on to the ball behind the
- 27:23plate because he's stabbing at it.
- 27:25You know, his best plays in our best pitches were when he let
- 27:32balls come to him and he just took it.
- 27:35You know, go ahead. He led the ball travel come to
- 27:39him and he just took it and you know, we've got that.
- 27:43But he needs to improve drag dramatically, exponentially on
- 27:48defense for me to even consider him for this list going down the
- 27:51line. I know I gave it to him last
- 27:53week but I noticed some stuff this weekend sitting so close I
- 28:00not a fan of. I respect.
- 28:03That that's the beautiful thing about this.
- 28:05That's the beautiful thing about this pole, though.
- 28:07I can see that. And then you can have him on top
- 28:11of your list. You know, we can see things
- 28:14different ways. Yeah, that's the thing what I'm
- 28:16doing about because like I know like you have a deep, you have a
- 28:19deep baseball knowledge. So I'm just like, you know, I
- 28:22think what gave, you know, last week.
- 28:24Well, when you look on paper statistically like catchers get
- 28:27a lot of put outs, but I don't like to look at that because I
- 28:30mean, because they record the put out on the 3rd strike.
- 28:32I think that's more of a pitcher step.
- 28:34But like I think what made the difference for me with him was
- 28:37just this week was just the fact that he had some throw throw
- 28:41outs. I was like because the the
- 28:43infield and the Alfred were more active this week than as opposed
- 28:47to the Week 1. So that's why I gave him some
- 28:50recognition there. No Milam and Evans like, you
- 28:54know, this. It was, you know, Milam was
- 28:55still steady, of course, and he was just like he had.
- 28:58Did you see that? I forgot who they play.
- 29:00It was just like, it was like a bare hand left, left hand throw
- 29:03to first. It was it was it was sick.
- 29:06Yeah. I was like, man, he was doing so
- 29:08dumb. Like I was saying before you
- 29:10came back in, Miles, my number one guy this week for the
- 29:14powerhouse Pole because he made plays look so easy that fans out
- 29:22there were probably like, I can do that.
- 29:27And it's because he's so smooth with the ball.
- 29:29Yes, absolutely, man. So.
- 29:31So technically he's so. Smooth with it, Yeah, he's
- 29:34fundamentally sound. He just, he's so smooth with it.
- 29:37He just is. 1 solid motion going up, picking it up and making the
- 29:42transfer, going to my pitching. You know, it's hard to pass up a
- 29:47guy at number one who was the tournament MVP, so I went with
- 29:50Schmidt. Then to me, Cooper Moore might
- 29:54end up being our Friday night guy by the time all is said and
- 29:57done. I like that.
- 29:58I would like that, yeah. So I've got him.
- 30:00I got him. And then Evans had a really good
- 30:03showing this week. He looked like he came back.
- 30:07Barring a few unfortunate plays and stuff, that might have been
- 30:12the sod being new, you know, I'll give it to him.
- 30:17So that's my top 3 is very and it ended up being the Sunday guy
- 30:21was the top guy, the Saturday guy was the middle guy, and the
- 30:24Friday night guy was the last guy.
- 30:27Starters man for me. But they looked really good.
- 30:33Honorable mention for 4th place. I got Gavin Guidry again.
- 30:36He just came out and, you know, did his thing.
- 30:40He looked really good on all his appearances.
- 30:43But like I was saying before you, when you were cut out, I
- 30:46just kept going and the all tournament Tigers for this week
- 30:50were in the infield. Zach York, Steven Milam and
- 30:55Dardar outfield was Jake Brown at DH because like I said, in my
- 31:03opinion, he just wasn't very technically sound behind the
- 31:05plate. He got it DH because he was he's
- 31:10that's the thing. You can't take him out your
- 31:12lineup because he put so much production in the lineup, right?
- 31:16So DH you got KD, Aaron, BD and then like I said, tournament MVP
- 31:21William Schmidt, I think he had a 7 strikeout game.
- 31:25Yep, that's it. That's right.
- 31:27You know, but kind of got my after last night.
- 31:30I've set my tone setting Tiger of the Week and it's tone
- 31:33setting Tigers of the week for this week.
- 31:35There you go. The whole pitching staff.
- 31:39Yeah, I'm with you. Thanks.
- 31:41I agree man. I don't think we've been that
- 31:43manganese game. We had so many walk, we gave up
- 31:45so many runs by walking, hit by a pitch.
- 31:48It was. It was not pretty short.
- 31:50No, you've got two days off and today and tomorrow y'all need to
- 31:54get your rest done, get prepared mentally and come back.
- 31:57You've got a four-game stretch from Friday, Saturday, Sunday
- 32:00and Monday. Show what you can do.
- 32:02Be sound, throw strikes, slow it down if you need to.
- 32:07Or thing that helped Cason Evans, in my opinion, is he
- 32:10speed his he speed it up from the time he got the ball, got
- 32:14the pitch call and he he was in the wind up and throwing.
- 32:21And that speed up to me is what really helped him.
- 32:23It's little things like that, fundamental stuff.
- 32:25Just go back to your basics, you know, worry about your technique
- 32:30and how you throw. You know, it's play pitch and
- 32:34catch and let your defense do what they do.
- 32:38Not every game they're going to have three errors, you know?
- 32:41Yeah, I just I completely agree with.
- 32:44You about the time setting tigers.
- 32:46Yeah, I I can't disagree and like I just can't disagree with
- 32:50you at all. Just like I said, I was, I was
- 32:52thinking about earlier, but I was like, you know what?
- 32:54Just, and I'm glad you confirmed that because like, I know I
- 32:57started off the last two weeks basically with the pitchers, but
- 33:01that's just been a comparison to the offense.
- 33:04That's just been the the miles been the weak spot.
- 33:06But just just to think about this, like last night, we used
- 33:0910 different pictures last night, so 10 different pictures
- 33:12last night. Now, granted, like it's still
- 33:14early season 9 conference play, so you still want to, I know Jay
- 33:18is trying to experiment, which I get that makes sense, but it
- 33:21just the showing was just not good, man.
- 33:24It was, it was just not good enough. 10 pictures.
- 33:27That's that's pretty steep and just to and that's putting them
- 33:30nicely. But just you know, when you it
- 33:34just like isn't got to clean it up on the mound.
- 33:36The star has been pretty deep, pretty steady for the most part,
- 33:39But just you know, to try to see like particularly the bullpen.
- 33:42I just want to see what the bullpen like can they take that
- 33:46next step? You know, but I don't need you
- 33:47to go deep into the game, especially on the bullpen.
- 33:50But can you clean, like you said, clean up the pitches like
- 33:53you get more efficient and cut the counts down And that's this
- 33:57what I want to see from them the next few days, yeah.
- 33:59Let's see, we had six walks and at least three hit by pitches.
- 34:04We need to clean that up. You know, clean that up and
- 34:08we'll be fine. Just trust you.
- 34:10Go back to your basics, go back to your fundamentals.
- 34:12You'll be fine. You know you'll do good, but
- 34:16just come back and get into it. Just go back to the basics.
- 34:19Just go back to playing pitch and catch and everything will
- 34:22work out. You know 1 midweek game ain't
- 34:24going to kill you. Look, UCLA lost last night, I
- 34:28think. And like 4 top team lost.
- 34:30Yeah, it was UCLA. Yeah, the Arkansas lost, it was
- 34:35four. It was.
- 34:36Four, I think they didn't lose. Yeah.
- 34:39Georgia Tech, Arkansas, LSU, Arkansas, UCLA, Georgia Tech all
- 34:45lost last night. So one loss isn't going to kill
- 34:47you, you know, But you need to go.
- 34:51In the long run, one loss isn't going to kill you.
- 34:52It's the first loss of the season.
- 34:54Yeah. You know, you just, that's why I
- 34:57was saying like, you know, these late game comebacks, relying
- 35:01solely on the bats to get you over was going to come back and
- 35:05bite us. And that's exactly.
- 35:07What happened last night? And what I always say is this, I
- 35:10know you need points. I know, I know you need runs to
- 35:13score, you need scoring. But games always starts on the
- 35:16mound. It always starts on the mound,
- 35:20like you got to get the mound in order to keep it that way.
- 35:23That's I always say that it's a defensive sport by structure.
- 35:27Have that foundation in place. Exactly.
- 35:30Yeah. And you know, you're going to
- 35:32make mistakes. Stuff like that's going to
- 35:33happen, you know, But it's how you come back and bounce back is
- 35:38what matters. And I think they'll be fine.
- 35:41But I've just got one more shout out for this weekend from this
- 35:45weekend because I completely forgot about it, but Chris
- 35:49Stanfield was named the Live Like Lou Foundation Fan Choice
- 35:53Community Impact Player of the tournament.
- 35:55Shout out man. You know so shout out to him.
- 36:00Would love to have him back. Hope he gets healthy real.
- 36:02Fast. Yes, for sure.
- 36:04But before we go, you have any closing thoughts?
- 36:08I just want the only thing I understand is brother in all
- 36:11series. I thank you for being the leader
- 36:13of this show. You the set the tone, you the
- 36:15ultimate tone setting Tiger. You teach me about the sport.
- 36:19This is my first I love I've been watching baseball for you.
- 36:21This is the first time I've really been charting it
- 36:23day-to-day just to really get a better understanding and feel
- 36:27for it. And it's it's been it's been
- 36:28it's been fun. It's been a great interesting
- 36:30ride so far. You know, just trying to get a
- 36:33better understanding, see what you see and just bounce off each
- 36:38other. So it's been.
- 36:38Fun. So far it has been fun.
- 36:41I've been tweeting every game. I didn't tweet last night's game
- 36:44because I was a little tired from track back home and having
- 36:48to go to work the next day, so I didn't go to the game yesterday
- 36:50either. But rumor has it we're going to
- 36:56Vegas next year for the little tournament.
- 37:00So save in, put your vacation in now, because I'm dragging you to
- 37:04Vegas with me. We ain't, we ain't going to no,
- 37:08no casino, no club, you know, I don't do that stuff.
- 37:11We'll go to the games, but we're going to eat.
- 37:12Nah. With the crew we're going to go
- 37:14with, you might have to, you know, make a few exceptions.
- 37:19There's no exception, no exception to that brother.
- 37:21Look, I love you look they they can keep that clean on right
- 37:24there. I.
- 37:25Said you had to drink or nothing, but you just.
- 37:28Oh yeah. You have to go with look, you
- 37:30have to say that. I'll say it for you.
- 37:32They play, they play, you know, God bless you.
- 37:35Yeah, but rumor has it we're going to, we're going to, we're
- 37:39going to Vegas next year. We'll see how that actually
- 37:42goes. I would love to see how they
- 37:44play out there, though, because the ball is not going to fly
- 37:47like it does over here. Yeah, you know, but that's next
- 37:52season. We got to we got to worry about
- 37:54going to Omaha this year and making that and the main mistake
- 37:58game is not going to kill you. I think if it does anything, it
- 38:01gives you an early wake up call. It gives you an early wake up
- 38:05call and tells you, look, we need to work on XY and Z to be
- 38:09better, you know? Yeah.
- 38:13And it was the first loss of the season.
- 38:14It wasn't a terrible loss. You know, it's not one that
- 38:17you're going to look at like next year and say, oh, they had
- 38:1910 run, ruled by McNeese Snow. We lost by one run and was
- 38:24really a throwing error away from that.
- 38:26Jake Brown should have kept in his back pocket from keeping
- 38:29that thing at and probably they might still be playing if Jake
- 38:33Brown keeps that ball in his pocket.
- 38:34Who knows? But you know, that'll do it from
- 38:36us. It was a great week of play and
- 38:38we look forward. We'll have probably five more
- 38:41games to talk about next week because they played Monday.
- 38:45Let's check the schedule real quick, Bear.
- 38:47With me here Friday, we got Dartmouth, Saturday Northeastern
- 38:52and Dartmouth again on Sunday and then Monday Northeastern.
- 38:55OK, so we only have four games because when the Here We Go
- 38:59March on the fourth, they go to ull on Wednesday.
- 39:02So we'll have four games to cover next week.
- 39:06But you know, this is the most games they've played through
- 39:10Week 2. I think we'll play.
- 39:11They played nine games and it hasn't even really been three
- 39:15weeks yet. Yeah, you know.
- 39:17Yeah, there's, well, heavy workload, but I mean, I like it
- 39:20for just getting that feel. Yeah, it's a nice little
- 39:24workload. I like how it's going.
- 39:28I think they'll this loss is only to make them stronger in my
- 39:31opinion. Yeah, yeah.
- 39:33I'm not super. I'm not worried.
- 39:34Yeah, but those tickets for that ULLLSU game next week at ULL the
- 39:41cheapest tickets are $200 for UL for ULL at one point my uncle
- 39:47said it was $500. Goodness, that is fucked.
- 39:51Up yeah for ULL was $200. It's their World Series though,
- 39:55so. Fair enough.
- 39:58That is crazy. But that'll do it from us here.
- 40:03As always, I enjoyed having you on Will.
- 40:05Likewise brother, thanks for having me.
- 40:07Everybody have a great day, great night, a great morning.
- 40:10Whatever you have, just make it a great one and remember to
- 40:13like, follow, share, subscribe, do all the things you know,
- 40:17let's build this up. Something nice.
- 40:19Tik Tok's been doing really well.
- 40:21YouTube has grown a little bit. I've been posting daily.
- 40:26I skipped yesterday because I ran out of stuff.
- 40:28Good quality content to post. It was just a bunch of repeating
- 40:34so, but we're growing. We hope to grow it more.
- 40:37That'll do it from us. Have a good you.
- 40:40Too.
