- 0:34Welcome to the drive through episode number 12.
- 0:36This is Brad.
- 0:37That's right.
- 0:38I'm back.
- 0:39You all had a little bit of a reprieve, but you can't get away
- 0:41from me this long for this time.
- 0:43This is our monthly recap where we put together a menu of automotive,
- 0:46motorsport, and random car adjacent news.
- 0:49Now, let's pull up to the window number one.
- 0:53automotive news.
- 0:54That's right, Brad.
- 0:54And before we get on to our normal news banter, let's remind everybody
- 0:59of something really special about this particular episode.
- 1:03This episode marks our one year anniversary, and somehow we managed to
- 1:08turn 52 normal weeks into 72 episodes.
- 1:13So if you've just now tuning into the break fix podcast, you have a
- 1:17lot of Catching up to do, but I have
- 1:19an answer for that though.
- 1:21It's creative editing.
- 1:22That's how we did it.
- 1:26Absolutely.
- 1:27You know, there's a lot of great content out there, back on the main
- 1:30server, out on Patreon, all sorts of stuff to catch up on some fantastic
- 1:34guests over the last year, ranging.
- 1:36All over the motorsport and car community.
- 1:40So lots of really cool things to catch up on and a big shout out and thank you right
- 1:44up front before we dive into the news to all of our guests, all of our supporters
- 1:48and all of our fans that have come on the show in the last year, you know, as
- 1:52we look back, there's been some really, really neat news articles that have come
- 1:56out through our drive through series, and I think we're going to revisit some of
- 1:59those topics as we go along and first up this month, our showcase manufacturer.
- 2:05Just happens to be an EV company.
- 2:08So this month we kick off with Rimac.
- 2:11We've talked about them several times before, and they're infamous for
- 2:14being the car that Richard Hammond had wrecked in an episode of The
- 2:18Grand Tour while doing a hill climb.
- 2:20So they were kind of like on the bleeding edge of hyper and supercar EV technology.
- 2:25And we talked about several times on this show where Porsche has sold out.
- 2:30vested interest and continue to grow its vested interest in RIMAC.
- 2:34And things just went to 11 because here's what we're hearing.
- 2:39RIMAC bought Bugatti.
- 2:41Did you guys know that Bugatti was for sale?
- 2:43I knew the Bugatti baby too was for sale.
- 2:45Hey, so let's do the math on this for just a second.
- 2:48RIMAC who had about 21 percent controlled stock by Porsche.
- 2:53Then buys a company that is owned by Volkswagen, in which it has
- 2:5845 percent controlling stock of.
- 3:01So in two plus two equals seven and a half accounting math, that means Porsche
- 3:06owns about 60 percent of Rimac now.
- 3:08Yes.
- 3:09Right.
- 3:10I mean, it's absolutely nutty.
- 3:12I read some articles, even for PCA and PCA being the Porsche club of America.
- 3:15They're saying Porsche now owns 45 percent of Rimac, right?
- 3:18Because of the crazy math and everything that's going on here.
- 3:21What does that mean for the company?
- 3:22What does that mean for Bugatti?
- 3:24Oh, what does that mean for all these crazy concepts
- 3:26that they're coming out with?
- 3:27What I gather from this is like we alluded to Volkswagen group in Porsche,
- 3:33we're leveraging Rimac to develop some of the more high end EV stuff that they
- 3:38wanted for, let's say like something like a nine 18 or the Lamont's cars, the
- 3:42LMDH prototypes and things like that.
- 3:44So I think this is a great test bed.
- 3:46We've already seen that Bugatti has been going off the deep end with
- 3:49some crazy new models that we can't pronounce the names and we don't
- 3:52understand what they look like.
- 3:53So it all kind of works together, but some of the new numbers are astonishing.
- 3:59Obviously, you know, Tesla loves to come to the table and say, Oh,
- 4:02we've got the fastest car zero to 60.
- 4:04RIMAC is currently claiming zero to 60 in 1.
- 4:0885 seconds.
- 4:10Wrap your mind around that staggering speed.
- 4:13Do we really need to go this fast?
- 4:14I guess is the better question.
- 4:16No, I don't think we need to go this fast.
- 4:17I mean, even 2.
- 4:188 seconds, which is, I guess, the norm now for all these hypercars and supercars
- 4:22is just still completely just insane.
- 4:251.
- 4:258, 1.
- 4:269 or whatever.
- 4:27That's, I would faint.
- 4:29Going that fast.
- 4:30Right?
- 4:30I mean, your eyes are like pushing into the back of your head at that point.
- 4:33We're well past the days, like we talked about in the Bobby Parks
- 4:36episode, you owe me a 10 second car.
- 4:3810 second car is slow.
- 4:39I mean, what is a 1.
- 4:41850 to 60 second car doing a quarter mile?
- 4:44Are we in the fives?
- 4:45Absolutely bonkers.
- 4:46Which drove me down this path.
- 4:48And I stumbled upon another article that just happened to
- 4:50kind of leak out from the side.
- 4:52And it went back to a conversation that we had earlier in the year about the
- 4:55fastest production cars in the world.
- 4:57Remember we talked about the SSE Tuatara and some of these other vehicles that
- 5:02were out there and whether they had dethroned Bugatti, you know, and we're
- 5:04talking about them here again now.
- 5:07And so I went through this list and Rimac shows up twice.
- 5:11So the concept one, as they're calling it is at 221 miles an hour.
- 5:16And the concept two, which I don't believe is out yet.
- 5:2158 miles an hour, again, staggering numbers from a company that's really
- 5:26not that old that we've only hired about in the last couple of years.
- 5:29Maybe they're that dark horse that nobody's really paying attention to while
- 5:34the shiny objects is the Teslas and the Koenigseggs and all these other things.
- 5:38And here comes Rimac now bolted up with Porsche and the
- 5:42power and the might of VAG.
- 5:44I mean, we're going to see some crazy stuff coming out of there and, you
- 5:46know, Porsche is not going to settle for anything less than perfection.
- 5:50And so I'm really, really excited to see what comes of this new merger.
- 5:55And especially from the Bugatti line, because we have joked several times
- 5:58that how much lemonade can you squeeze out of an aging R8 platform, you
- 6:04know, and call it the Chiron and the Veyron and all these different names.
- 6:07I will say on that list of 25 fastest cars on the planet.
- 6:10A lot of them are still really old.
- 6:13We're talking about salines.
- 6:15We're talking about the original McLaren F1 is still on that list.
- 6:18I mean, there's Jaguar XJ220 is still on that list, right?
- 6:20I mean, going way back into the nineties, there's still a lot of cars that
- 6:23topple that 200 mile an hour number.
- 6:26There's a bunch of stuff on there that I was surprised
- 6:29hadn't been completely eclipsed.
- 6:31But it seems to me, if you take all the cars away from that list that
- 6:34said claimed next to them, you know, unproven results, the Chiron Supersport.
- 6:39That is still king of the castle at almost 305 miles an hour.
- 6:43I mean, which again begs the question, do we need to go that fast?
- 6:47So what I want to know is when is this technology going to trickle
- 6:49down all the way to the Veloster in in the Elantra in because as you
- 6:55saw on the chart, Hyundai owns 12 percent of this remit group as well.
- 6:59Exactly.
- 7:00How's that going to work out?
- 7:01And, you know, to be honest, since we're still kind of talking in a
- 7:04roundabout way of VAG news, I actually got a recent opportunity to coach in
- 7:09a Veloster N since you brought it up.
- 7:10And I have to say that is the best GTI that was ever built in Korea.
- 7:16So let's move on from that and let's talk a little bit about our next favorite
- 7:20group in the automotive world, Stellantis.
- 7:23There has been an unveiling of a Grand Jeep yet to be named, as we
- 7:28referenced on a previous episode.
- 7:30We're still not sure what it's going to be called, but as speculated, it's the Grand
- 7:35Wagoneer with some different badging.
- 7:37It
- 7:37doesn't look any different than any other Jeep.
- 7:40From the side, it looks like a Palisade.
- 7:43Or a Telluride to me.
- 7:45Sharp line down the side of it.
- 7:47I had
- 7:47to sit behind a Telluride.
- 7:50I've not seen Telluride line.
- 7:51All I see with Telluride is that the rear end lights.
- 7:54The Telluride actually isn't hateful.
- 7:56No, they're not bad looking.
- 7:58But it's not the more rounded, muscular look of the current day.
- 8:03Grand Cherokee, which I actually really, I'm a huge fan of
- 8:07the current WK2 Cherokees.
- 8:10Grand SUVs the Jeep makes that we can't call Cherokees anymore.
- 8:13The side view definitely looks a little more square, maybe harkening back to
- 8:17the very square Cherokees from the 90s.
- 8:21I thought the front was basically the Grand Wagoneer.
- 8:24Concept that we've seen revealed with a different badge on it.
- 8:27It has that kind of crow Magnin forehead and the lights kind of inverted and,
- 8:32you know, kind of curved internally.
- 8:34I don't know.
- 8:35Maybe I'm not looking at the same thing.
- 8:37Actually,
- 8:38there are pictures of the current Jeep in that photo reel.
- 8:41That carousel.
- 8:41Don't ask me why, but they are there.
- 8:43Maybe that's the problem.
- 8:44Yeah, it's definitely grand Wagoneer light.
- 8:48Exactly.
- 8:48Exactly.
- 8:49You can tell they've elongated the chassis.
- 8:51It's much bigger.
- 8:53And why wouldn't they share the same chassis?
- 8:55It doesn't make sense not to.
- 8:56I mean, from a tooling perspective, change a couple of things, call
- 8:59Hella or whoever, make some different lights, and then let's go from there.
- 9:03But the question is, what is the Dodge Durango going to look like now?
- 9:06I would say, take that Jeep and slam it into a concrete wall.
- 9:09And that's probably what it will look like.
- 9:12I can see that.
- 9:13That's if they even bring the Durango back, right?
- 9:15Cause the Durango, I think is being eclipsed by the Wagoneer name, which
- 9:20is the debate they had a couple of years ago, which was the Durango was
- 9:24supposed to already be the Wagoneer and they said, no, no, no, no, no.
- 9:27It's going to be a Dodge.
- 9:28We're going to keep it a Dodge.
- 9:29With the new changes at Stellantis and even the changes internally at FCA, before
- 9:34all that happened where they're kind of thinning out the herd a little bit and,
- 9:37you know, changing their offerings where all the trucks are Rams and, you know,
- 9:41Dodges is going to be the muscle cars and all this kind of thing, I can kind
- 9:44of see that, you know, they don't want to have too, too much overlap anymore.
- 9:47The Wagoneer, as we already talked about in a previous episode, it's
- 9:50the highest of high end, right?
- 9:52It's beyond.
- 9:53The grand jeep to be named summit edition, right?
- 9:56It's then the Wagoneer.
- 9:58It's like even more to obviously try to compete with what's going on over
- 10:02at Cadillac and all the other high end brands that are putting Range Rover
- 10:05and
- 10:06it's a three row, right?
- 10:08Since when has the current grand Cherokee been a three row?
- 10:11If it wasn't a Durango, right?
- 10:13So with, with that, I mean, it's a lot of badge engineering.
- 10:16Let's call it that.
- 10:17Yeah.
- 10:17No.
- 10:18I'm not in the market for it, so it's okay.
- 10:20So we'll flip this around a little bit, and let's talk about the last hoorah
- 10:25for the Charger and the Challenger.
- 10:27Say what now?
- 10:28Yeah, yeah, so Dodge announced back early in July that, hey guys,
- 10:32just want to let you know, we're done building muscle cars, okay?
- 10:36And everybody went, what, what, what?
- 10:38And we've been talking about this for a year now, about how Chrysler, Could
- 10:42care less about all this other stuff.
- 10:45700 horsepower or whatever.
- 10:47800 horsepower.
- 10:48Sure.
- 10:48900.
- 10:50All right.
- 10:501000.
- 10:511100.
- 10:52Where are we going?
- 10:52Right?
- 10:53Sky's the limit.
- 10:54Now they're saying, all right, guys, it's been fun.
- 10:57It's been real, but we're good.
- 10:58They are hinting without giving any details whatsoever.
- 11:02The press release that came out on July the 8th was nothing more than, it
- 11:06didn't say anything other than, yep, there's going to be an EV version of the
- 11:11Challenger and the Charger in the future.
- 11:12No specs, no nothing other than that.
- 11:14But there was a pretty funny quote from the director and he says, everybody
- 11:18knows electrification is coming.
- 11:20We will reinvent the muscle car.
- 11:23As far as Dodge is concerned.
- 11:25Okay.
- 11:25Well, that's kind of ambiguous, but here it comes.
- 11:28I'm extremely excited about where the future is going, but right now
- 11:31everybody is enjoying the bachelor party and this is the last hoorah.
- 11:35And
- 11:35I'm
- 11:35like, you know, all right.
- 11:37All right.
- 11:37I'll take it.
- 11:38I'll take it.
- 11:38But what I'm expecting though, if you're going to go out with a bang, you're
- 11:42setting the stage like that, the Hellcat better have a 2000 horsepower option.
- 11:47I mean, if you're going to do it, you got to go big or go home.
- 11:49You got to do a demon that does a six second quarter.
- 11:52What's the new name going to be like the Lucifer, the Dante.
- 11:56I mean, they got to give it, they got to give it a whole nother thing, right.
- 11:58To take it to 2000.
- 12:00What's that morning
- 12:00star.
- 12:01Yeah.
- 12:02What are all the names from the Lucifer TV show that we can throw in
- 12:05here?
- 12:07You know what?
- 12:07I think our listeners should write in and put in their suggestions or
- 12:10post on Instagram, uh, Along with the show and say, Hey, this is my
- 12:13idea for the main dive should use for their 2000 horsepower challenger.
- 12:17I just got a great show idea.
- 12:18First of all, I think we need to insert taps here right now.
- 12:22Uh, when you're doing the editing.
- 12:24Also, I think we need to have a funeral for these vehicles, for these cars.
- 12:28We do like a podcast funeral.
- 12:30Everybody can call in and let us know their favorite memories
- 12:32of when they saw the Hellcat do.
- 12:35Burnout all the way up from the lower S's to the upper S's at VIR and the
- 12:39back straight and all that good stuff.
- 12:40Hey, Dodge, if you're listening, 21 challenger burnout salute.
- 12:45I mean, again, if you're going to party hard, do it right.
- 12:48You imagine what that would sound like?
- 12:50The 21 challengers unloading.
- 12:52Uh, you wouldn't be able to breathe for like a week, but absolutely incredible.
- 12:56So, you know, all this talk about the challenger and the charger
- 12:59on their way out, we got to do a little throwback Thursday here.
- 13:02We got to rewind the clock And talk about the genesis of where this whole
- 13:07legacy started back in the year 1999.
- 13:11So let's party like it's 99 and go to Tanya.
- 13:14Sometimes we see concept cars and it's very disappointing when the
- 13:18real car is made because it strays.
- 13:21very much away from what that concept looked like.
- 13:23The concept looked amazing.
- 13:25And then there's concept cars that are hot garbage, and thankfully they're not made.
- 13:31This is the hot garbage category.
- 13:34The original Charger RT concept, this thing is phenomenally ugly.
- 13:40It looks like a Dodge Stratus.
- 13:43mated with the current Camaro or something from the rear end.
- 13:47I don't know.
- 13:47Like there's many things going on where it looks like multiple cars that
- 13:51have been pieced, mealed together.
- 13:53But my initial look from the front, I just see that horrid Dodge Stratus and
- 13:58I don't care what's under the hood.
- 14:00thing is a piece of garbage.
- 14:01And thankfully when they finally made the Dodge Charger, it didn't look like this
- 14:05when they did release the first charger, it wasn't anything to
- 14:08write home about compared to now.
- 14:09Some of the newest chargers.
- 14:11I mean, they're really good looking.
- 14:12They got some stance to them and flares and they're aggressive.
- 14:15I mean, Fiat has done an excellent job redefining the charger and
- 14:19the challenger for that matter.
- 14:20But you're right.
- 14:21This thing is hot trash and it goes right along with.
- 14:24An article we wrote about two years ago now called good ideas, bad
- 14:27execution, where we talk about these concept cars, but you know, sometimes
- 14:32they do evolve into good things.
- 14:33They are the jumping off point for something else, but I don't
- 14:36know what this jumped off to.
- 14:38But thank God they threw it in the bin and started all over again.
- 14:41I think part of it jumped off to the Dodge Avenger.
- 14:45If anybody remembers that car, which was basically based off of the Sebring.
- 14:48I think it was like a.
- 14:49A coupe Sebring, essentially it's like they're all the same
- 14:52chassis, those crappy cars.
- 14:53The amalgamation of all of those horrible looking cars.
- 14:57Yes.
- 14:57And to clarify, it does not look like Camaro from the rear end view, because I
- 15:01don't know what that rear end tail light thing with the way the side was swooping.
- 15:07It's garbage.
- 15:08It's
- 15:09a mess.
- 15:09I know Camaro is not a Dodge, but.
- 15:11It came in my head when I was looking at the side view of it.
- 15:14The same time was it a year or two later, they had that crazy demon
- 15:19they called it, which was like a Miata killer that took some of the
- 15:22cues from this weird prototype.
- 15:24And it actually didn't look bad.
- 15:25It looked like there was also the copper head at one point, which was a Viper
- 15:29variant that they had come out with.
- 15:31I mean, it was an experimental time in 99 at Dodge.
- 15:35Like they just weren't sure what was up.
- 15:37Right.
- 15:37Prince said, we got a party.
- 15:39Yeah.
- 15:39And they, they were partying.
- 15:41All right.
- 15:41So switching gears and still talking about Stellantis a little bit.
- 15:44What else we got there, Tanya?
- 15:45Ferrari tends to be
- 15:49You don't say.
- 15:51Rightfully so.
- 15:52And that's great.
- 15:53But now, as if you didn't need to be any more pretentious with your Ferrari.
- 15:59I have nothing against Ferraris.
- 16:00If I had that kind of money, I'd have one as well.
- 16:02Ferrari's getting into the mini EV market like Bugatti?
- 16:05Is that what I'm hearing?
- 16:06No.
- 16:07Not talking about that, but we are talking about something mini.
- 16:10Going forward, when you purchase your brand new Ferrari, you can
- 16:13now also purchase a 1 8th or 1 12th scale model car of your Ferrari.
- 16:21This is a partnership between Ferrari and Amalgam Collections.
- 16:25They're a company that makes model cars.
- 16:27Now I had to look up a Malcolm collection.
- 16:29So I was like, Ooh, model car.
- 16:31Anyone want to wager guess as to how much a model car costs?
- 16:36If you want to order a 1 8th scale,
- 16:39I already gasp at the price of the auto art 1 8th scale cars.
- 16:43So I'm going to imagine it's 10 times what those costs.
- 16:46I'm gonna throw out 15 grand.
- 16:49You are very close and on the ball because, just as an example, the Ferrari
- 16:54250 GTO 3445 GT 1 8th scale is 14, 965.
- 17:02Wow.
- 17:03Well, that's brutal.
- 17:04You can get a Ferrari 250 TR 118 for 793.
- 17:09Wait, that's the cheapest one?
- 17:10793?
- 17:12And it's not the same scale though.
- 17:13I'm just kind of cruising through the Ferraris right here.
- 17:16So let me ask you this, you know, there's this whole like seeming
- 17:19underground myth that Ferrari owners don't actually own the Ferraris.
- 17:24They're actually all owned by The company, and you just kind of lease
- 17:28them and turn them in and you work your way up the Ponzi scheme until
- 17:31you get the latest and greatest one.
- 17:32You got to, you know, it's like this whole thing.
- 17:34If you have a scale model that goes with your Ferrari, do you actually
- 17:39own the model or is that what you get left with after they take it away?
- 17:42I don't know.
- 17:43But at those prices, you could buy a whole second car.
- 17:46Buy a Honda for that price.
- 17:47I mean,
- 17:48you could buy a 2016 Dodge Dart.
- 17:51Ain't
- 17:52that
- 17:52truth.
- 17:53Get one
- 17:53today.
- 17:53Your local Chrysler dealer.
- 17:56Oh, well, the things people will buy, the things I definitely
- 17:59will not just because they can.
- 18:01Exactly.
- 18:02So moving on, we, I mean, this wouldn't be a drive thru episode if we didn't
- 18:06talk about Volkswagen Audi group.
- 18:08I know we started with Rimac.
- 18:09It is technically a separate organization.
- 18:11We got to focus on the parent organization, Volkswagen Audi group.
- 18:14And there was some news that rocked the social media world this past month.
- 18:20So let's talk about that.
- 18:21Oh, are you referring to the OMA to the Audi Quattro S1 in electric?
- 18:28Yes, I very much am.
- 18:30And you know what's funny?
- 18:31I found so many people reacting to this car that probably would have
- 18:37done nothing but put poo emojis and thumb down over the original one.
- 18:42You know, but there's just something about it.
- 18:43It is probably the closest, if it isn't a rendering to the original cars, it
- 18:50really does do a great job of bringing out the essence and the period and just
- 18:56all the awesome things about those, you know, homologated groupie rally cars.
- 19:00What is the big problem with this car, Tanya?
- 19:02The biggest problem is it doesn't have four rings on the front grill.
- 19:06That's right.
- 19:06This is a complete skunkworks project by a group called E Legend.
- 19:10They're building this as a tribute car, but the factory at this
- 19:14point wants nothing to do with it.
- 19:16And so if anything, Audi, Volkswagen, if you're listening, don't be stupid.
- 19:20There are enthusiasts that want these cars.
- 19:23Just freaking build it at this point.
- 19:24Send it.
- 19:25Everybody else.
- 19:26Seems to be stepping into the time machine to pull forward
- 19:30retro redesigns that are electric.
- 19:34We've seen some of them.
- 19:35We've talked about some of them.
- 19:36I mean, you've got the ones that everybody knows, Fiat mini, et cetera.
- 19:39But we even talked about the Alfa Romeo and Renault and all these things.
- 19:43Why not this?
- 19:45What better car in the Audi lineage to bring back as a retro and electrify.
- 19:51Exactly.
- 19:51I don't disagree.
- 19:53You know, and I can hear certain members in my ear right now, the American
- 19:57market doesn't want it, you know, dah, dah, it'll never, it wouldn't be to
- 20:00the American market anyway, that's a non starter.
- 20:03Just like we're never going to get to Scirocco.
- 20:05And I.
- 20:06I'm going to get off my soapbox right now because I just get all
- 20:09spun around the axle about it, but you know, Hey, whatever, but there
- 20:11is some cool stuff coming from Audi.
- 20:14Well, and just like we'll never get it.
- 20:16I want to do a quick follow up.
- 20:18We talked about the five cylinder Audi RS3 that's going to be coming out.
- 20:22And I think 2022, it will be not only the sedan, which was
- 20:27what's been shown in pictures.
- 20:28There will be a hatchback version.
- 20:30Take it from me now.
- 20:35If you live in Europe.
- 20:36Oh God.
- 20:37Wah, wah, wah.
- 20:39Yep.
- 20:39The hatchback version will not be available in the U.
- 20:42S.
- 20:42Of course.
- 20:43Moving on.
- 20:44The only hatchback version of that we're going to get is the Q3 or the,
- 20:48or the Q5 with an RS package on it.
- 20:50That's what we're going to get because apparently that's all we can drive.
- 20:54Frustrating, frustrating.
- 20:55Can you, can you folks, can you hear my frustration?
- 20:58I mean, if you're a petrol head, you should be upset about this.
- 21:01Maybe you don't like Audi.
- 21:02Maybe you don't like Volkswagen or Porsche or any of these
- 21:05brands, but think about it.
- 21:06There are so many cool designs out there.
- 21:08And we've said this before in the show that could be updated and made better.
- 21:12To work without even really ruining the design.
- 21:15I think we've said it before.
- 21:16Chrysler has proven that time and time again, you can make the old cars cool.
- 21:21Yeah.
- 21:21They're going to be bigger than the originals.
- 21:23They're going to be safer.
- 21:24They're going to be faster.
- 21:25Why
- 21:25not?
- 21:26Well, what I don't understand is this aversion.
- 21:29Okay.
- 21:29It existed, but apparently still exists for hatchbacks because guess what?
- 21:34All these compact crossover SUV things are nothing but.
- 21:38Lifted hatchbacks.
- 21:40So if everyone in the U S is on this compact crossover
- 21:43bandwagon, then I don't get it.
- 21:46I don't get it either, but I think it goes to Brad's favorite phrase.
- 21:49I mean, if nobody's figured this out yet, you know, hatchback and CUV are basically
- 21:55the same thing with suspension gap.
- 21:58I mean, I don't know.
- 21:59You know, most of
- 22:00the CUVs that are coming out, don't even have that much suspension gap.
- 22:03They're essentially the same height.
- 22:05Is your Camry that's parked next to him.
- 22:06It's ridiculous, but they can haul a shit ton of mulch,
- 22:10but you know, what is coming out is the Chinese only market.
- 22:13La Mondo.
- 22:14Have you seen this thing?
- 22:16Uh, unique.
- 22:19Yeah.
- 22:19So in terms of not coming to the United States, I'm okay with this one.
- 22:24It is hideous.
- 22:24Like there are cars where I'm like.
- 22:26It looks like a roach.
- 22:28You could say that about the TT.
- 22:29Kind of looks like a little bulldog.
- 22:31The Toyota Paseo to me looked like an insect from like way back in the day.
- 22:34This one definitely like it needs little antennae and like whiskers.
- 22:39I mean, it's, it just looks like a pill bug.
- 22:41I don't get it.
- 22:42And not in a good way.
- 22:43Like what was that thing called?
- 22:44It was like the bug ripoff.
- 22:46Oh, yeah, yeah,
- 22:48yeah.
- 22:48The, the fun, the fun cat or something, whatever, stupid name it had.
- 22:52Nothing.
- 22:53God, let's not go there.
- 22:55There is something cool coming and I don't know if it's true or not.
- 22:59And this is one of my favorite VWs that nobody knows anything about.
- 23:03The SP2.
- 23:04I talked about it in our previous episode.
- 23:06It was a Brazilian born.
- 23:08There were multiple variants of it.
- 23:09And we talked about a rendering that had come out with a full
- 23:12motion video to go with it.
- 23:14Set to music, really cool looking.
- 23:16It's in one of the previous drive thru episodes, but now it sounds like
- 23:19and looks like from these sketches that have come out that Volkswagen of
- 23:24South America might actually be a car.
- 23:26be putting together a prototype.
- 23:28And I tell you what, some people have said it looks like a Jaguar E
- 23:31Type from a couple years back, but I actually think it looks really cool.
- 23:34And it does a good job of staying with that last generation of VW SP2.
- 23:40I seriously doubt it'll ever come to fruition.
- 23:43And if it were
- 23:46only be available in Brazil, because it's the only place that
- 23:49car basically was available.
- 23:50My soul is crushed.
- 23:52You're killing me today.
- 23:53Volkswagen.
- 23:54Or is it volt wagon?
- 23:55What is it again?
- 23:57Oh, okay.
- 23:58I got it.
- 23:59Got it.
- 23:59Got rimac.
- 24:00Okay.
- 24:02Meanwhile, VW announced that they are going to begin 3d printing
- 24:09metal parts for their vehicles.
- 24:10And I actually thought that was kind of cool.
- 24:12They're the first manufacturer that I've seen, at least come out into the public
- 24:15and state that they were doing this, how this is going to change the Part
- 24:20manufacturing kind of logistics change.
- 24:22I don't know because you know, as we know, not all manufacturers make
- 24:26all their parts in house, right?
- 24:28Germans are famous for using Miley and man and Vallejo and Vico.
- 24:33And there's all sorts of other companies, just like we have in the U S right.
- 24:35AC Delco and all these other groups that will build parts and then
- 24:39supply them to the manufacturer.
- 24:40And they get put on the assembly line.
- 24:42This is the true of other manufacturing industries, whether it be, you know,
- 24:45the computer industry and others.
- 24:47So I think this is actually kind of cool that.
- 24:49They're bringing it, maybe some of the parts more in house and they're
- 24:53going to be made out of metal and not plastic and 3d printed.
- 24:56So that's kind of cool.
- 24:57They're still going to fail
- 24:58a hundred percent.
- 24:59I mean, we're
- 24:59still going to need to go to the dealership and wait three years for a new
- 25:02part to come out or for to get a new part.
- 25:04Cause it's got to be overnight from Germany,
- 25:06only made in the dark forest, right?
- 25:08But
- 25:08this brings up a good point with like the 3d printing of
- 25:10parts and everything like that.
- 25:12If the 3d printers.
- 25:13They don't take up much real estate.
- 25:15Theoretically, if you get to a point where the dealers could start
- 25:19manufacturing their own parts in house to cut down on some of that time gap.
- 25:23Be like, Hey, yo, I need an oil filter.
- 25:25All right.
- 25:25It'll take you three weeks to get it, but you know, Hey, whatever.
- 25:31Crazy, you know, that they'd be able to do metal printings because earlier,
- 25:35just a couple of days ago, actually, apparently in Amsterdam, they built like
- 25:40a pedestrian bridge across a canal that's.
- 25:43Stainless steel bridge that was 3d printed.
- 25:45How big is that printer?
- 25:47I don't know.
- 25:48And it's very, um, artistic looking the bridge.
- 25:51So it's not a simple like flat platform and rails on the side.
- 25:54This thing is very like futuristic looking with curves and, uh,
- 25:58other, you know, features on it.
- 25:59So apparently, you know, six robotic arms and all this stuff
- 26:03welded it and blah, blah, blah.
- 26:05So, you know, if they can build something of that scale, then
- 26:08small parts shouldn't be an issue.
- 26:11Obviously technology is.
- 26:12Absolutely.
- 26:14And we talked about in a previous episode where team Corvette had talked about
- 26:18all the different things that were 3d printed on the C8 are IMSA race car.
- 26:23So it's not uncommon, but I thought it was cool to VW is pretty much at the front
- 26:27of this saying, Hey, we're doing this as part of our day to day operations.
- 26:31And I thought that was pretty neat.
- 26:32So good on them.
- 26:33Right.
- 26:33And they're going to try to set the trend.
- 26:35So any other news from Volkswagen before we move on?
- 26:38One final, which I guess could, uh, air in the funeral episode.
- 26:44So I think it's been a little bit in the, in the making that Volkswagen
- 26:49had said that by the end of the decade, I think that the Passat was
- 26:52going to go the way of the Condor.
- 26:54If you will, but they've actually accelerated that timeline.
- 26:57And apparently the VW Passat will no longer be manufactured after
- 27:032022.
- 27:04And the only people disappointed are the folks at the rental car lots.
- 27:09I mean, the need for the Passat, I don't blame them.
- 27:12I mean, the Jetta is the size of Passat now.
- 27:14So why do you need two of them?
- 27:16And then they brought
- 27:18out that A or 10 or whatever.
- 27:20It
- 27:20was like, It's going to say that, you know, their sedan game hasn't really
- 27:23been that strong because the Ayrton didn't necessarily do that well.
- 27:26The CC didn't really necessarily do that well either.
- 27:29It's like they did well with the Jetta.
- 27:31Okay, well keep the Jetta then.
- 27:33Apparently this is going to be a special edition version because
- 27:36since 2011, the Passat's been manufactured at the Chattanooga.
- 27:40VW plant, so it's going to get, you know, all sorts of cool limited edition
- 27:45things from the wheels to seat tags in the interior to even the, the bottoms
- 27:51of the cup holders are going to have like an aerial map of Chattanooga
- 27:54and a blueprint of the factory.
- 27:56So a lot of touches on the car going to Chattanooga and the, in
- 28:00the factory itself to kind of pay a little homage to the factory there.
- 28:05So question, how long will it take for one of these special edition Passat's
- 28:10to sell for 250, 000 on bring a trailer?
- 28:14Because all this extra shit that they're putting into these things to
- 28:17make it special edition, you know, someone's going to buy one and try
- 28:21and flip it as a collector car.
- 28:22Uh,
- 28:26I don't think so.
- 28:28I don't
- 28:28think so.
- 28:30Should I said racing junk instead of bridge?
- 28:32Not
- 28:32even that I think is going to be on eBay if eBay still exists in 40 years.
- 28:36Okay,
- 28:37let me rephrase my question.
- 28:39How long will it take?
- 28:40Before these cars are all up on Craigslist for 250.
- 28:46That's more like it.
- 28:47That is a hundred percent.
- 28:48More like
- 28:48probably right.
- 28:49That someone will have that idea and think it's a good one, but the
- 28:53reality will be that they will just be left with having bought the car.
- 28:58Yeah, it's going to be like that Citroën, Dechevaux, Burton conversion
- 29:02we talked about last month, where it costs more for them to make the car
- 29:06special than it's actually worth.
- 29:08So I think that's what Volkswagen is going through right now with Passat.
- 29:12It's like, they're in denial.
- 29:13We're going to make it super awesome.
- 29:15Because I would say it's starting at 31 isn't really that much more
- 29:21expensive or out of the price range.
- 29:23I mean, you'll be able to go to your dealer and buy one for 26 immediately.
- 29:26Because nobody's going to be buying them
- 29:28100%.
- 29:29But in China, you can still buy the quantum based facade from 1985.
- 29:34So it's all good.
- 29:35You know what I mean?
- 29:36They use them as cop cars and stuff.
- 29:37It's, it's absolutely nutty.
- 29:38I'm like, whatever.
- 29:39So maybe over there, the facade will get a 2nd life.
- 29:42I actually, in China, they call it the Shanghai.
- 29:45That's the model that name they call it, not to be confused with the city,
- 29:49but who knows, maybe it'll get a second life over there as a limousine.
- 29:52Cause it's freaking huge.
- 29:54But now we're going to move on to Brad's favorite new section
- 29:58here in the, what is it now?
- 30:00I guess it's middle of season two.
- 30:02We've introduced something called lost and found.
- 30:05So I'm going to start lost and found with something we don't have on our
- 30:08show notes, but I did a little bit of investigative work and some digging
- 30:12and I found you can go Right now.
- 30:15Oh God.
- 30:16This is, this is 2021 right now.
- 30:18You can buy a brand new 2014 Honda Civic Hybrid.
- 30:23No!
- 30:25No way!
- 30:26With five miles on it and a CVT transmission, 1.
- 30:305 liter i4 hybrid, heated seats, keyless start, navigation system,
- 30:35bluetooth, alloy wheels, backup camera, brake assist, lane departure warning,
- 30:39stability control, and leather seats.
- 30:41And what color is it?
- 30:42It's black.
- 30:42Oh, that's why I didn't sell.
- 30:44Black with black interior.
- 30:46That's
- 30:46exactly why I didn't sell.
- 30:48If you're looking for a car, it is at Colonial Honda.
- 30:52That's in our area, isn't it?
- 30:53In
- 30:54Dartmouth, Massachusetts.
- 30:55Oh, nevermind then.
- 30:56Off Route 6.
- 30:57Nice.
- 30:57Buycolonialhonda.
- 30:59com.
- 30:59Is that the oldest new lost and found you found?
- 31:02Or do we know one
- 31:04thing I had some trouble with was looking at cars.
- 31:08com is people don't know what they have much to you know what
- 31:12they say on Craigslist where they know what they have on cars.
- 31:16com.
- 31:16They don't they don't realize that their 2008 Mercedes ml.
- 31:20With 170, 000 miles, it's not actually a new car.
- 31:24Don't lowball me, bro.
- 31:25I know what I got.
- 31:26All right.
- 31:27Yeah.
- 31:27What they have is a piece of junk with a lot of miles on it.
- 31:30It's not a new car.
- 31:31A hundred percent, but that's a hell of a fine dude.
- 31:33Good on you.
- 31:34Every month we keep coming up with new old stock.
- 31:37Let's
- 31:37call it
- 31:37that.
- 31:38If you're looking for this car, all of our two listeners who
- 31:40might be looking to buy a vehicle.
- 31:42They're Arbitron
- 31:44rated three listeners.
- 31:45Okay.
- 31:45We have stepped up.
- 31:46We have
- 31:48season two.
- 31:48You know, you gotta up your game.
- 31:50MSRP is 26,625.
- 31:53Whoa.
- 31:53Theyre selling this car for 18,994.
- 31:56So that's a smoking deal.
- 31:58Seven years later,
- 32:00. You sure that's not $1,876?
- 32:03Nope.
- 32:04But it, it is a $1,500 price drop recently.
- 32:07You know what they should probably do is salvage this car and take the
- 32:09microprocessors and start putting them into the newer cars that are out there
- 32:13that they're having trouble finishing.
- 32:15So since lost and found also comprises some historical
- 32:19stuff, what else is on the list?
- 32:20See, Toyota's got to pay 1.
- 32:222 billion for the unintended acceleration issue that happened 10
- 32:26plus years ago caused by floor mats.
- 32:29They had to pay 1.
- 32:302 billion for hiding the facts of the, uh, I guess of the case.
- 32:34Can you imagine 10 years later, you're still dealing with that?
- 32:37Are those Priuses even still on the road anymore?
- 32:40It wasn't just Priuses, they were Camrys, all the Toyota models, because
- 32:45apparently they used terrible flimsy clips that held the floor mats in
- 32:50place, and then the floor mats would get lodged under the accelerator pedal.
- 32:53That's why every single time I go to the dealer with my truck for
- 32:56service, On the list of items that they check, they check the floor mat.
- 33:00They check it every single time.
- 33:02Ah, even on that Avalon TRD we talked about last month.
- 33:07Not to go back to Volkswagen, but I got to tip my hat for some
- 33:10of their marketing campaigns.
- 33:12We could argue our off.
- 33:13The rails sometimes, but then there's a few others that are awesome.
- 33:16And one of them in recent times is the whole buy a manual because it's,
- 33:21it's basically a anti theft device.
- 33:23We all saw that commercial.
- 33:24We think it's awesome, but not that this is a blinding realization of pure truth.
- 33:30It just took us a good doy moment to get there, which is.
- 33:33Now, folks are saying manuals are going to be a boost in collector value.
- 33:38Really?
- 33:39You don't say anybody that's out there has got a manual because
- 33:42they are getting rarer and rarer.
- 33:44Guess what?
- 33:44Unlike that facade we talked about five minutes ago, you actually have something
- 33:48that might be a value in the future.
- 33:49Too bad.
- 33:50Nobody's going to know how to drive it.
- 33:51Yeah, right.
- 33:52Who, who, who wants it?
- 33:53Nevermind.
- 33:54You want
- 33:54to GR yards with the manual?
- 33:56I know that.
- 33:57Yes.
- 33:58But I know how to drive a manual, but today's youth don't even
- 34:02want to drive a car, regardless of it's manual or automatic.
- 34:05So who who's going to want to buy these manual transmission cars?
- 34:08Cause they just don't want their self driving fully autonomous.
- 34:11Blah, blah,
- 34:12blah.
- 34:12And listen to the listener in Pennsylvania.
- 34:17That's got a 1985 Chevrolet Cavalier manual.
- 34:20That's not going to be a collector's car.
- 34:22I don't care if it's got a manual transmission or not.
- 34:25The same for the chickadee in, uh, in West Virginia with the 1996 Pontiac Sunfire.
- 34:33Manual.
- 34:33That's not a collector's car either.
- 34:35It's a collector's car but still running because those cars don't run anymore.
- 34:39The fallacy in all this is that suddenly these cars are
- 34:42going to be super desirable.
- 34:43To your point, the collector cars that are
- 34:45manual are already collector cars to begin with.
- 34:48The Ferraris, the Porsches, the Maseratis, whatever they might be.
- 34:52To your point, the 1995 Chrysler Maserati TC with the manual, nobody wanted
- 34:59that freaking thing to begin with.
- 35:00you It's not worth anything.
- 35:02So Brad, what else do we have in our historical lineup here on Lost and Found?
- 35:06If anybody's looking for some really cool cars that were owned by a very
- 35:11famous and talented drummer, Neil Peart's car collection is up for sale.
- 35:16Uh, many of you know, he was the, the drummer for Rush.
- 35:19He passed away, I believe it was last year.
- 35:21Uh, he's got a nice collection of cars.
- 35:24Most of them are still over, but he's got a really nice collection.
- 35:26A black Cobra in here.
- 35:28He's got a, looks like a Corvette Stingray, a Muera, there's
- 35:31a Jaguar E Type, there's a DB5, Maserati Mistral Spyder.
- 35:36And anyway, apparently Neil Peart liked silver vehicles.
- 35:39So there's a whole bunch of cars up for auction.
- 35:41If you've got the cash and you don't want to buy a brand new Ferrari with its little
- 35:46one eighth scale, Kid and go buy something that's actually worth some money.
- 35:50They call it more affectionately the silver surfer collection, which
- 35:53I think is actually really cool.
- 35:54And some of the pictures from the collection, when they kind of
- 35:57brought them out there, wherever they took pictures, it's like
- 35:59pebble beach or something like that.
- 36:00It's absolutely gorgeous collection.
- 36:01I mean, even if you're not into those cars, you can appreciate what he
- 36:06picked and what he had and all that.
- 36:08And hopefully they go to good homes.
- 36:09You know, they don't maybe just end up in a museum somewhere.
- 36:11Hopefully they get driven and they'll just be out there for people to enjoy.
- 36:15I have to say I'm really loving the silver paint with the red interiors.
- 36:20Since we're talking about historical stuff, you know, we talked about
- 36:23it several times on the show.
- 36:24We're always talking about barn finds.
- 36:26And I came across an article from one of our many sources and it was
- 36:30like the most dramatic barn finds.
- 36:34And as I dig into this and I'm like, come on guys, I enjoy
- 36:37a restoration show or two.
- 36:40I don't know that I need an American pickers.
- 36:44Type of barn find show with a bunch of people that I can't stand finding
- 36:48cars that I could care less about.
- 36:50You know what I mean?
- 36:51And I looked through some of this list and it's like 1971 Cadillac ambulance.
- 36:57And I'm like, yeah, so three of those, like two months
- 36:59ago, I mean, like big deal.
- 37:00You know what I mean?
- 37:01So some of the stuff is just like, wah, wah.
- 37:03And then there's already other shows like this on motor trend, where you
- 37:08can watch like autobiography and really get into some of the deep
- 37:11nerdy historical stuff about why.
- 37:14Certain barn find cars are more significant than others.
- 37:18Like there's one on this list.
- 37:19It's like, Oh, rare 1969 trans am found in Alaska.
- 37:23How many 1969 trans amps did they build?
- 37:2650, 000 of them.
- 37:27I mean, it's, it's when we're talking about cars in super low numbers, like
- 37:31the story that we mentioned before about the car that does this thing.
- 37:34Bugatti 57 G tank.
- 37:37It was on the episode with Mary and Marianne from Moon Mark.
- 37:39We talked about that car briefly in the pit stop.
- 37:42That car has a tragic back history.
- 37:44You know, being buried underground or World War II, they almost
- 37:47forgot where they put it.
- 37:48They were, you know, they were lucky the car wasn't destroyed.
- 37:50It's a one of one, you know, all these kinds of things.
- 37:53That's a barn find.
- 37:54That's craziness.
- 37:56You know, yes.
- 37:56Granted there's some collector finds out there.
- 37:58Like we talked about last month where, It's a barn full of Pontiacs.
- 38:01And you're like, all right, that's cool.
- 38:03You know, they're going up for auction and maybe they'll turn
- 38:04into some really neat hot rods.
- 38:06But I don't know that I can do another, you know, junkyard gold
- 38:10and just be like, okay, great.
- 38:12I think GTM should start a show called the farm find where you go to the mountain and
- 38:17you look at all the Mercury sables and the Mercury wagons and the Ford Taurus wagons.
- 38:22And the mark four burial ground that's up there.
- 38:26They call that an Easter egg hunt in West Virginia.
- 38:28Okay.
- 38:28I just want to point that out.
- 38:29Sorry, West Virginia listeners.
- 38:31I'm just saying.
- 38:33All right.
- 38:34But there is a really interesting barn find that we discovered.
- 38:38So we've got a barn vine for you.
- 38:40It's a Lamborghini Countach.
- 38:42Apparently it was found in a basement.
- 38:44Why don't you tell us a little bit more about it, Eric?
- 38:47So apparently this guy decided that he was going to build himself a A Lambo.
- 38:52So he built it.
- 38:53It's not, he didn't find it.
- 38:55He, he, he built it?
- 38:57He built it in his basement.
- 38:59So this isn't a barn find.
- 39:01It's a build find.
- 39:03It has been unearthed, and it took him 17 years to assemble.
- 39:07You know, much like
- 39:08Unearthed from what?
- 39:10Underground.
- 39:10It was in a basement.
- 39:13It's literally unearthed.
- 39:14He
- 39:14built it in his basement.
- 39:15He didn't find it in a basement.
- 39:17Other people found that he was taking it out of his basement.
- 39:21Wait, this thing is made of wood?
- 39:24Or he just built a wood, the wood, uh, carcass so that he could do
- 39:28fiberglass molding around it.
- 39:30He built it himself in the basement, like that Johnny
- 39:33Cash.
- 39:34Yes, okay, so it's actually made of wood
- 39:38and they didn't call the police They didn't call the insane asylum about this
- 39:42guy building a Lamborghini in his basement
- 39:45Well, you know what the hell he was building.
- 39:46He could have been building furniture down there at the
- 39:48tiniest point was made of wood
- 39:51Whoa Back up
- 39:53someone commented in the comment section of this video Frequently asked questions
- 39:57about the video fact updates Number one, is the car frame made out of wood?
- 40:05The answer is no.
- 40:07That was the jig to form the body panels off.
- 40:09The frame is tubular steel, which fast forwarding, I did see that,
- 40:13but I was horrified at first when
- 40:16I saw nothing but wood.
- 40:18I was going to say, I didn't realize that the original Lamborghini Countach
- 40:21built by Lamborghini was made of wood.
- 40:24No, but the fact that No, go ahead.
- 40:26The fun facts of this comment will solve all these issues.
- 40:30Please.
- 40:31I just got to say, you got it.
- 40:32Okay.
- 40:33You got to hand it to this guy.
- 40:34He didn't want to buy one.
- 40:36He wanted to build one.
- 40:37And I think we know somebody that is right along these lines.
- 40:40So Tanya, please educate us a little bit more.
- 40:43And that was frequently asked question.
- 40:45Number two, why waste 17 years of your life?
- 40:48Just get another job and buy the car.
- 40:50As you said, it was his passion and it was his hobby.
- 40:53So that's what he was
- 40:55cheap.
- 40:57Well, I'm not sure if this caused issues in his, in his marriage, but anyway,
- 41:01number three, since we're talking,
- 41:04my guess is number three is what model.
- 41:07Chevrolet small block they put in it to power it.
- 41:10Oh, that's not asked anywhere.
- 41:12But number three, to address this whole basement find thing, why
- 41:18didn't you build it in the garage?
- 41:20So you did not have to destroy your basement wall.
- 41:23You went to hide from your wife.
- 41:24Apparently they have cold winters.
- 41:27And he would freeze in the garage, but the basement was warm.
- 41:30I mean, the
- 41:31logic is sound.
- 41:32I mean, every one of these points so far, it is sound logic.
- 41:36This is informative for me because I did not watch the whole video.
- 41:39So he built a full sized car in his basement with no way to
- 41:44extricate it from said basement.
- 41:46So he demoed the side of the house.
- 41:48To pull it out.
- 41:51That's, that's not an original idea though, because there was a
- 41:55top gear episode where a guy was building a car in his kitchen.
- 41:58It started as just putting a couple of little things together and
- 42:01then he wasn't paying attention to the measurements or whatever.
- 42:04And then all of a sudden he had a full blown car.
- 42:07Yeah, but it didn't
- 42:08take them 17 years to do it.
- 42:09A few years and they had to knock out a wall to get the car out.
- 42:14Apparently this poor gentleman has gotten a lot of flack about this
- 42:17build much to the 17 years, you know, and then why are you selling it?
- 42:23It was your dream.
- 42:24It took you 17 years.
- 42:26Apparently it was a rough 17 years and this car is a reminder of that.
- 42:31And so that's why A big reason of why he's getting rid of it.
- 42:34Well, that and the termites ate the frame and it doesn't actually run.
- 42:38And it's copper to get there.
- 42:39No.
- 42:40Was it was made of, it was made of tubular steel and aluminum,
- 42:42but, uh, I, I think that's bs It is two by fours wrapped in
- 42:46aluminum foil and spray painted.
- 42:47Okay.
- 42:48. There is no way.
- 42:50That's possible, but number six here, and I've skipped number five, because
- 42:54it's stupidity about how to pronounce aluminum, aluminum, number six, a comment,
- 42:59really, not a question, 89, 000 profit.
- 43:03I guess that's what he was trying to sell the car for 89, 000 profit
- 43:06divided by 17 years is 5, 235 a year, not including cost of build.
- 43:11Complete waste of time.
- 43:13And what about cost of divorce lawyers and all that stuff?
- 43:16That's total cost of ownership.
- 43:18We don't do that
- 43:19now.
- 43:19Which this person replied, it's not a waste of time.
- 43:21Everyone has hobbies.
- 43:22Most people watch TV, read a book, or play a computer game to waste kill time.
- 43:26How much do you earn per year for doing that?
- 43:28Dude, again, this guy, he is grounded in sound logic.
- 43:33It's like arguing with mountain man, Dan, you're not going to win.
- 43:36I'm just letting you know in advance.
- 43:37This is somebody on behalf of this guy, by the
- 43:39way,
- 43:41he's got an advocate.
- 43:43Oh, holy cow.
- 43:44He's number one fan, probably more than we have, but there's another car.
- 43:49That has also resurfaced.
- 43:52And I remember when I saw this car many years ago, and it is
- 43:55now available on Craigslist.
- 43:57What do we got?
- 43:57Brad
- 43:58Volkswagen Beetle
- 43:59in early two thousands.
- 44:01And what's special about this Bele, they, they made a billion beetles.
- 44:04I mean, come on.
- 44:05Oh, what's special?
- 44:06It's an automatic.
- 44:07Oh really?
- 44:08It's silver.
- 44:09It's got a sunroof powered by a, a jet engine.
- 44:13Excuse me, what?
- 44:15A General Electric Model T58 85
- 44:19With
- 44:20afterburner.
- 44:208F rocket, basically.
- 44:24This thing is awesome.
- 44:25I remember when this thing got built and it was like all over the interwebs,
- 44:29you know, it was on E Bombs World and everything else back in the day.
- 44:32But to see it back on Craigslist, I was like, you know what?
- 44:35Why the F not send it, man, get it out there.
- 44:38I guess he's finally done with it.
- 44:39I don't know how he drives this freaking car.
- 44:42It is an impressive piece of machinery.
- 44:44I do appreciate if you look at the detailed photographs in the Craigslist
- 44:49ad that he paid a whopping 5 to list this car on is the dashboard.
- 44:54His instrument cluster is.
- 44:56Something I'd like to replicate.
- 44:58Literally beat me to it.
- 44:59I was waiting for a pause so that I could say the key takeaway out of
- 45:03all this for me is the uniqueness of the instrument cluster.
- 45:07He added on I'm intrigued now.
- 45:10I have to think about this offline.
- 45:12So good
- 45:12comes out of the crazy.
- 45:14All I know is I do not want to be behind this guy in traffic.
- 45:17You should be beside him and hold out some really long skewers
- 45:21with a marshmallow on the end.
- 45:23I mean, he's got like a four foot flame that comes out.
- 45:25The sad part is it's probably slow as dirt and loud as all get out, right?
- 45:30So what did he really achieve from the two point slow that
- 45:34he had in it to begin with?
- 45:35Because he probably added 1500 pounds on top of the weight of the car
- 45:40to have this jet engine in there.
- 45:42And
- 45:42I think it said the motor weighs the motor, the engine weighs 300 pounds.
- 45:48That seems awful light for as big as that thing.
- 45:50And by the way, just to throw it out there, because there's not the same
- 45:53kind of commentary on this as there was in the 17 year old Lamborghini.
- 45:56Where does one pick up a G E T 58 dash, all that serial number that Tanya read?
- 46:03Do you just buy that off like the Russian black market?
- 46:06Or do you go down to local Home Depot and pick that up?
- 46:08I mean,
- 46:08Well, Home Depot is where Tesla gets their car parts.
- 46:12You know, I, that's, that's a good question.
- 46:19Well, let's move on a little bit and let's recap something from last month.
- 46:23So, you know, we're talking about restoration shows, talking about barn
- 46:26finds, we're going to talk a little bit more in a little bit here about
- 46:29Jeremy Clarkson, but Richard Hammond, we said, has got his own show and it's
- 46:35all about restoring cars and restoring some of his cars in his collection.
- 46:38And, you know, he was pressed by interviewers and journalists
- 46:42as always, and they asked him to list his top five cars.
- 46:46So I read the article, it's pretty short, I hate to say,
- 46:49Richard Hammond, I'm a little bit unimpressed with your list, bro.
- 46:52You know, they made fun of you so much on the show about being in love with the
- 46:55Mustangs, and bringing over cars from America, and all this kind of stuff.
- 46:59Three of your five were Lamborghinis.
- 47:02Maybe I get it, you got a love for Lamborghini.
- 47:05I also recall you have a love for 911s.
- 47:07So where was that on the list?
- 47:09What was on the list though was a Bentley blower.
- 47:12I was like, Oh, that's cool.
- 47:13It showed a picture of a motorcycle.
- 47:14I was like, what's that got to do with cars?
- 47:16But I got to tip my hat.
- 47:17Top of his list is Oliver, the Opel cadet from the Africa
- 47:21special that they did mad prompts.
- 47:23It is actually really a cool car.
- 47:25And I'm glad he saved that thing from the brink of extinction.
- 47:28A little bit want why there too is expecting more, something
- 47:31a little bit more diverse.
- 47:32Uh, kind of like we talked about Nicolas Cage's car collection last month and
- 47:35some of the other car collections of famous people, even, uh, Neil pert
- 47:39and the silver server collection.
- 47:40There's some cool stuff in there.
- 47:41So I'm like Richard Hammond, come on, man.
- 47:44Let's uh, let's jazz it up a little bit.
- 47:46And this is exactly why when you ask the question, Clarkson, Hammond, or May 99.
- 47:529 percent of the time, nobody says Hammond,
- 47:56you know, and that's very true.
- 47:57And for those of you that haven't listened to our pit stop episodes, it is
- 48:01a question we will throw at our guests.
- 48:04We see what they say, and you're right.
- 48:06It does flip flop between Clarkson and may a lot.
- 48:09It's very rare that somebody will pick Richard Hammond, and maybe he's just.
- 48:13Secretly boring.
- 48:15I don't want to get the secret.
- 48:18Oh, who knows
- 48:19so much to the secretly boring, but that Clarkson is like one
- 48:24end of the pendulum of extreme.
- 48:27And then may is the other end of the pendulum.
- 48:31And I think Hammond's just kind of somewhere in between.
- 48:34And so people are gravitating towards the sarcastic, angry, extreme, or
- 48:41the, he's so boring and painful.
- 48:43Like, you know, I, I, I can't stop watching.
- 48:45It's like a train wreck.
- 48:46I have to say I'd have a beer with you.
- 48:48Either of them are all of them.
- 48:50So it worked for me either way.
- 48:52But yeah, I'm just, you know, like a little disappointed and
- 48:55speaking of being disappointed.
- 48:57I also came across another video.
- 48:58I believe I saw it on garage riot and it was like the biggest
- 49:01flops and automotive history.
- 49:03And I was like, getting excited because we did an ugly cars episode this past year.
- 49:07And I was like, Ooh, maybe some fun.
- 49:09to add to our list of just heinous vehicles.
- 49:13And it was just another wild moment, but I will say it opened with the DeLorean.
- 49:18And I was like, Oh, wait, hold on.
- 49:19You have my attention.
- 49:20What's going on here?
- 49:21Like we all know the tragic backstory, the mockumentaries that came out, like
- 49:25being John DeLorean and all that kind of fun stuff that we reviewed during COVID.
- 49:28Biggest flop.
- 49:29I don't know.
- 49:30There's a cult following behind the DeLorean.
- 49:32So, okay.
- 49:33You got me.
- 49:34I'm going to watch the rest of the episode.
- 49:35It was about.
- 49:3620 minutes or so, you know, long enough for YouTube people to just
- 49:40kind of move on to the next thing.
- 49:42It followed up with the GM EV1.
- 49:45I was like, okay, well, I don't know that that was a flop so much
- 49:48as the way that was presented a lot of historical information there.
- 49:51And then it's like, oh yeah.
- 49:52And by the way, they were really lease cars and GM took them back.
- 49:55I was like, okay, well, that's the real story, but I don't know that
- 49:57that's a flop so much as it was like a real life beta test, you know?
- 50:01So I wouldn't consider that a flop.
- 50:03Then there was.
- 50:04The Edsel, the Ford Edsel.
- 50:06We make fun of that thing relentlessly.
- 50:08It's hideous.
- 50:08It was on our ugly cars episode.
- 50:10It is not a great car.
- 50:11Convince me.
- 50:12Otherwise, all of our three Arbitron rated listeners that are out there, you
- 50:16know, convince me otherwise that the Edsel is good, but there is a car that
- 50:19we agreed on in the ugly car episode, especially the B sides that was on this
- 50:25list and I was shocked and this is what made the video worth watching for me.
- 50:30Would you guys like to guess what it was?
- 50:32Well, I don't know why I'm trying to like click through it.
- 50:34And there's just so much of this dude sitting here and nothing
- 50:37else, but is it the Cimarron?
- 50:39Yes.
- 50:40And the citation, both of them together in the episode.
- 50:44And I was like, boom, these cars are finally getting some props.
- 50:48They're getting some showtime.
- 50:49I was like, all right, because otherwise nobody would give two figs.
- 50:52About these two cars, but we did talk about them on that episode.
- 50:56And I thought it was hilarious and an awesome coincidence
- 50:58that I came across that.
- 50:59So again, if you haven't watched it, it'll be in the show notes, check it out
- 51:02for yourself and learn about all these terrible cars, but now it's time to talk
- 51:06about random EVs and concept cars over
- 51:09the top.
- 51:09I have to start this one with rich people, doing rich people things.
- 51:13Oh man.
- 51:14What are we talking about?
- 51:15The Bugatti baby too, again?
- 51:17Is
- 51:18there a baby three?
- 51:19Baby three?
- 51:20No.
- 51:21My baby two's on order.
- 51:23No, this actually is Porsche, but it's actually not really rich
- 51:27people doing rich people things.
- 51:28Cause this is a one off build that I think is going to go up on auction.
- 51:32So I guess a rich person will buy it, but it is a small size replica.
- 51:39Of a Porsche 917 30.
- 51:42That's the Can Am Porsche Audi blue, yellow liveried.
- 51:46917
- 51:47correct.
- 51:48And essentially it's a go kart with the 917 body on it.
- 51:53I like it.
- 51:53That sounds way better than the Bugatti baby too.
- 51:58And you know what got me about this article?
- 52:00Because we just did our karting showdown last month at pit race.
- 52:04It made me think for a minute, like if you could put a body like How cool would
- 52:09it be to have a race that's like a mini IMSA or WEC where you're in a go kart
- 52:16that looks like a legendary race car?
- 52:18Think about how awesome that would be.
- 52:21This sounds like the power wheels races, or it could be like,
- 52:27let's all use cardboard and make some bodies for our go kart.
- 52:32I love how she goes to cardboard.
- 52:34You know, that's, that's the tip for the guy who built the
- 52:36Lamborghini in his basement.
- 52:37You should have made the body out of cardboard.
- 52:41Then you could have folded it up and brought it up out through
- 52:44the house and then unfolded it.
- 52:46See how easy that would have been just a little bit of science, just a little bit.
- 52:50And that would have been more ecologically friendly because when he was done
- 52:53with it, he could have recycled it, but what's he going to do with that?
- 52:55But nevermind, let's, let's move on.
- 52:57Well, for this, I actually think you're onto something with the
- 53:02go kart racing of these classic liveried and classic bodied vehicles.
- 53:06And I think if Dr.
- 53:07T and race are listening to this episode, there's a business model
- 53:11in here that you should tap into.
- 53:13This is an untapped market.
- 53:15Can you imagine?
- 53:16It'd be bonkers.
- 53:16And I heard a guy talking the other day about how he was going to purchase the
- 53:21option package for his Tesla so that it could sound like a hemi challenger
- 53:25while he was going down the road.
- 53:26Apparently they mount these speakers and they can like project the sound.
- 53:30So it sounds like something else.
- 53:32And I'm like, put that on the go cart.
- 53:34So it doesn't sound like a weed whacker.
- 53:35Can you imagine being like a Ferrari 333 SP replica mini?
- 53:39And it sounds like you got a screaming V12, boom, mental.
- 53:44I would, I would love this.
- 53:45I'm on board.
- 53:45Sign me up.
- 53:46Meanwhile, back in concept car land.
- 53:49Yeah.
- 53:49So in concept cars, there's something called the mini Urbanaut that apparently
- 53:54is no longer a concept car was going to be now a real car, or at least a
- 53:59prototype is actually being built.
- 54:01And you're probably going, what is this exactly?
- 54:05The best way to describe it is.
- 54:08Think of a Volkswagen ID buzz, and then you have this car.
- 54:11Which it looks like a hundred percent.
- 54:13Yes.
- 54:14It very much looks an even more futuristic looking ID buzz essentially.
- 54:19And especially with the color choice.
- 54:22that they use.
- 54:23It's very modern, urban looking.
- 54:26It's all about modular insides.
- 54:29I think it might be trying to be self driving as well.
- 54:32So really the inside is, is all about kind of being a little mini living
- 54:35room and that you can rearrange the furniture, if you will, the passenger
- 54:40seating and all this, and it's very plush and funky and cool looking.
- 54:45What confused me about this at first, I didn't realize this was a mini.
- 54:50Like mini Cooper, mini BMW, mini, right?
- 54:53So this is their entry into this market.
- 54:55And I was like, all right.
- 54:56What also confused me is I thought I was watching an episode of
- 54:59whatever that show is on like HGTV where they build a mini houses.
- 55:03I didn't understand what was going on.
- 55:05They look like shots of like a really futuristic, like living room.
- 55:08When they show it looks gargantuan inside when it's obviously it's
- 55:11not, but it's got like a bed.
- 55:13Yeah.
- 55:14It had like a flat sofa, essentially.
- 55:16That you could sleep on.
- 55:17Yeah.
- 55:18It's a futon.
- 55:19Yeah.
- 55:20I mean, well, I mean, it doesn't fold out, but it's like a bench seat, but
- 55:22it looks like a fancy modern sofa.
- 55:26There's just so many weird things about it, but they're also super engaging.
- 55:30Like when you look at it, almost hyper futuristic.
- 55:33What really got me is the wheels and tires.
- 55:35How did they do that?
- 55:36Cause it looks like something that you'd see on like a Tonka
- 55:38toy or a play school thing.
- 55:40I just, I want to know more.
- 55:42They almost look all one piece, which almost makes me question
- 55:45if it's that, uh, who made that?
- 55:47Was it Goodyear?
- 55:48I think it might've been Goodyear.
- 55:49They were experimenting with like the hollow rubber tires that don't need
- 55:54air and they're all like honeycombed looking and this, that, and the other.
- 55:58I'm almost wondering if something like that's going on here.
- 56:01The other thing that I didn't understand was Some of the parts that
- 56:04are modular and some of the parts that aren't like, it's a hatchback.
- 56:08Let's just go there right away.
- 56:10But it's got the sliding doors, like a minivan,
- 56:13the front windshield lifts up.
- 56:14That's where I was going.
- 56:15Like, I don't understand that.
- 56:17Why would you want that?
- 56:19I guess if you're camping.
- 56:20Then you get the cross flow.
- 56:22Like, is that the idea?
- 56:24The one thing I could see about this is, you know, you hear the rumors
- 56:27and they're not really rumors like developers in California, they're not
- 56:30buying houses, they're buying RVs and they're living out of their RVs on,
- 56:33you know, the streets of Palo Alto and Sunnyvale and stuff like that.
- 56:36So I'm wondering like.
- 56:38Is this the answer?
- 56:39Like I'm plugging my mini Urbanaut and I can open it up and let it breathe.
- 56:43And I'm not in a Winnebago, you know, kind of thing, but you also
- 56:46have like zero privacy in this thing because of the way it's made.
- 56:49There's no way you could live in this.
- 56:51Yes.
- 56:51You could nap.
- 56:52You could sleep.
- 56:53It's not big enough.
- 56:54Where are you cooking?
- 56:55It's not a camper van that has a mini stove and a fridge and all those things.
- 57:01And maybe they slide out and do a little transformers thing.
- 57:04And all of a sudden you got, you know, all these other accoutrements in the vehicle.
- 57:07This isn't that, it's literally kind of like an enclosed lounge.
- 57:12It's very
- 57:12strange.
- 57:14As we switch gears, there is some good news in the electrified world.
- 57:18More progress being made in terms of electrifying America.
- 57:23It's literally ha ha ha.
- 57:24So Electrify America has hit their 600 station mark in
- 57:29trying to Electrify America.
- 57:31That's good.
- 57:32You know, we need that because that'll help people with range anxiety.
- 57:35And obviously even without that, we need charging stations.
- 57:39If Electric vehicles are going to be more of a thing.
- 57:41People can't rely on being able to just go back and forth to their home all day.
- 57:45So this is good news.
- 57:46And there's more companies than just Electrify America that are building
- 57:49charging stations and whatnot.
- 57:51And actually to follow up on this.
- 57:54I know I'm jumping ahead.
- 57:56I hate to be remiss, but Tesla actually announced that they're
- 58:01opening their charging networks or they're going to plan to open their
- 58:06charging networks to other EVs.
- 58:08That's if you have the adapter, right?
- 58:10Because they have a proprietary connector or whatever.
- 58:13That's how they're going to get you.
- 58:14You got to buy the adapter from Tesla to be compatible with EVs.
- 58:18Oh, the Apple model.
- 58:19A hundred percent.
- 58:20Exactly.
- 58:21That's all.
- 58:22That's all I knew it was coming.
- 58:23You know, it honestly, it doesn't specify, but that's a great point.
- 58:26That very well could be the case.
- 58:28Oh, order your Tesla adapter now for the low, low price of 10 million Bitcoin.
- 58:34And you too can charge on our ultra fast charging network.
- 58:37How many carbon credits do I get if I buy the Tesla adapter?
- 58:41They have a glut of those now, right?
- 58:43Because everybody's giving them back.
- 58:45We talked about it on the previous episode as well.
- 58:47But, you know, going back to this Electrify America thing, if somebody's
- 58:50doing the rough numbers, 600 stations across 50 states, or even 48 states,
- 58:55we're talking roughly a dozen.
- 58:57It's like, Ooh, ah, that's not that many.
- 59:00That's not the concentration, right?
- 59:01There's a lot of Electrify America stations along the East coast.
- 59:04We, one of our members has specifically been talking to us about their
- 59:08experience with their electric vehicle, going from the DC area to Florida
- 59:12and back and using the Electrify America grid and things like that.
- 59:16So it's been working for them.
- 59:18I've also heard recently in a conversation over a business lunch
- 59:21where somebody was talking about, Hey, You know, I, I got an electric car.
- 59:24I love it.
- 59:24It's super fast.
- 59:25It's awesome.
- 59:26But I really don't have time to sit around and wait for it to be charged.
- 59:29So they still have a petrol car because it, in the joke to that was, and I just
- 59:33kind of nodded my head and went along with the conversation was, I don't even
- 59:36want to waste the time to wait to pump the fuel if you're that busy, I get it.
- 59:40So to your point, there's a lot of things going on with this
- 59:43between the range anxiety and.
- 59:44Between the impatience of having to wait.
- 59:47And, you know, I get it 80 percent charge in 30 minutes.
- 59:50That's still 30 minutes versus how long does it take to pump 10 gallons of gas?
- 59:55Right?
- 59:55I mean, we've had these arguments before.
- 59:57I'll address two things.
- 59:58First, I want to react to that comment that he's too busy to
- 1:00:01pump gasoline into his tank.
- 1:00:04If you're that busy in your life, you need to examine your life.
- 1:00:07If you don't have several minutes out of your day, once a week, or even
- 1:00:12once every couple of weeks, I don't know, you got some issues going on.
- 1:00:17Okay.
- 1:00:18Now the article actually has a map of all their stations across the country.
- 1:00:23And honestly, they've done a good job.
- 1:00:24So yes, you're right.
- 1:00:25States like North Dakota and South Dakota don't have stations,
- 1:00:29and that probably makes sense.
- 1:00:31There is a heavy concentration going down the east coast, but if you look
- 1:00:34at their network that they show, they've pretty much created a network
- 1:00:37that you have major arteries that you can take cross country trips.
- 1:00:41without a problem and you're going on the route that you would normally take.
- 1:00:45Anyway,
- 1:00:46that makes sense.
- 1:00:47You follow route 50 or 66 or some of the big ones, you know, like that as an
- 1:00:51example, those, those are classic roads.
- 1:00:53It would make sense to start with those major arteries then, you
- 1:00:56know, side roads and whatnot.
- 1:00:58Yeah.
- 1:00:58You're just not taking your country back roads like you could.
- 1:01:02If you wanted to take a nice extended road trip or something, stay off
- 1:01:05the highways and stuff like that.
- 1:01:07That's not something you're going to do with your electric car.
- 1:01:09But I mean,
- 1:01:10we have those problems even in certain areas of the US with gasoline to
- 1:01:13where I've time and time again, I've gotten off the highway and I'm like,
- 1:01:17cool, there's a sheets or something.
- 1:01:19I'm going to go get diesel and you get to the end of the ramp
- 1:01:21and it's like 5 miles that way.
- 1:01:23And you're like, Are you kidding me?
- 1:01:25You know what I mean?
- 1:01:25So sometimes even fuel or petrol is not convenient either.
- 1:01:29Now in big turnpikes and stuff, you get on, you get off, you keep going.
- 1:01:33I mean, in, in the DMV 95, there's a gas station every like three feet.
- 1:01:37So it's not that big of a deal, but you get out there in the middle of nowhere
- 1:01:40and you're like, Even to go into some of these tracks and you're like, you have to
- 1:01:42actually go out of your way to find fuel.
- 1:01:45So I think it'll work out.
- 1:01:47It's just going to take time, you know, more than anything.
- 1:01:49And so I think some of that is also dependent upon where the
- 1:01:53electrical lines are, right?
- 1:01:55They're going to have to follow that.
- 1:01:56It's like almost like following the rail lines, right?
- 1:01:58If the electricity, the pipe isn't there to tap into, they
- 1:02:01can't put in a filling station.
- 1:02:03I get it.
- 1:02:03Makes sense.
- 1:02:04Switching to a.
- 1:02:06Interesting recall that isn't the first.
- 1:02:09GM has basically said, if you own a Chevy Bolt, Bolt with
- 1:02:12a B, don't park it indoors.
- 1:02:14There is a, a recall specifically around the battery and the charging system
- 1:02:20that can basically ignite the car burnt to the ground, you know, potential
- 1:02:24house burning on that kind of stuff.
- 1:02:25We got a recall, same basic TSB from Chrysler.
- 1:02:28We have a Pacifica hybrid and they got taken care of.
- 1:02:30It was like a five minute fix.
- 1:02:31Fix it's something they attach to the connector on the battery so that
- 1:02:36it doesn't basically fry the system and melt the car to the ground.
- 1:02:39So just basically a public service announcement.
- 1:02:41If you happen to be one of our three Arbitron rated listeners out there and
- 1:02:44own a Chevy bolt, take it in to your dealer and get this free recall done so
- 1:02:50that, you know, you don't cause a, a fire.
- 1:02:52So the recommendation from GM is park it outdoors.
- 1:02:54I don't know how that makes it better, but it just doesn't burn
- 1:02:57your house down.
- 1:02:58Yeah, that's pretty much it.
- 1:02:59But, but, but.
- 1:03:00What about the fact that this wasn't breaking news on every major news outlet
- 1:03:05and thrown in your face every two seconds?
- 1:03:07I mean, if this had happened to Tesla, we would have been hearing
- 1:03:10about it for weeks and weeks.
- 1:03:11And it would have been the hot news on every major news outlet
- 1:03:14and on TV, it would have broken in as Breaking news in the middle
- 1:03:19of, you know, Netflix and binge.
- 1:03:21I mean, what the heck, come on.
- 1:03:23Why is it always Tesla?
- 1:03:24Well, we already know that they burned down in parking garages, right?
- 1:03:27We've seen that time and time again.
- 1:03:29So, I mean, is that really news anymore?
- 1:03:31Well, you know what I'd like to address because it kills me.
- 1:03:34You want to know why everyone makes a big deal about Tesla is because
- 1:03:38when you put a bullseye on your back, that's what's going to happen.
- 1:03:42When you're selling Cubix or Cognia.
- 1:03:45At the price of diamonds.
- 1:03:47Yeah, people are gonna pay attention to you.
- 1:03:50And maybe it's my perception, but I don't think Chevy, Ford, any of them
- 1:03:55have ever pretended that their cars are perfect and that they don't have
- 1:03:58recalls and they don't have issues.
- 1:04:00They don't sit there saying that their cars are the best thing since
- 1:04:02the invention of sliced bread.
- 1:04:04So if you act like you're the hottest thing and then you're using Home
- 1:04:08Depot to, you know, Build your cars.
- 1:04:10Of course, you're going to get more attention.
- 1:04:12And all old Volt so I can smell like melted crayons.
- 1:04:15We can't figure out why, but we've come to accept it.
- 1:04:17It's part of their charm, right?
- 1:04:19It's not a defect.
- 1:04:19It's a feature.
- 1:04:21I mean, I know I'm probably offending people when I say that, but it's just
- 1:04:24like, you know, I don't know, whatever.
- 1:04:27It's a shift in the status quo, I suppose.
- 1:04:30But there's an interesting bit of news.
- 1:04:32For our friends that like to mod their cars, right, Brad?
- 1:04:36So in California, when they do their small checks, they're going
- 1:04:39to start testing for ECU tunes.
- 1:04:41So anybody with a nice, fancy Volkswagen or Audi or whatever that likes to go
- 1:04:45and you get an ECU tune to get a little bit more power out of the car, uh,
- 1:04:49well, California is going to catch you.
- 1:04:51And what are they going to do to you?
- 1:04:52Put you in car jail?
- 1:04:53I mean, what are they going to do to you?
- 1:04:55Let's see, they're probably going to fine you, I'm sure.
- 1:04:58I
- 1:04:58mean, I get it.
- 1:04:59People, I mean, back in our day, right, of tuning when we were young and stupid
- 1:05:03and wasted money on that kind of stuff.
- 1:05:05And then now we just build race cars and waste more money.
- 1:05:07You know, we had two computers.
- 1:05:09You had the one that you put in the car when you took it to the dealer
- 1:05:11and the one that you put in the car when you drove it on the street.
- 1:05:14Uh, and even further back than that, you had the guys that were doing
- 1:05:17catalytic converter deletes, and then they would put one on to go to the
- 1:05:20test and then they would take it off.
- 1:05:22You know, the rest of the time.
- 1:05:23I mean, this, this stuff's been going on since what I feel is like the
- 1:05:26beginning of emissions testing, right?
- 1:05:28Everybody's always looking to get around it for one reason or
- 1:05:31another, and I'm not advocating.
- 1:05:32For and I'm not condoning the behavior in any stretch of the imagination.
- 1:05:36So the point I get California's point, a lot of these tunes that, you
- 1:05:39know, you want to talk about diesel gate and all that kind of stuff and
- 1:05:42changing the mapping of the motor.
- 1:05:43Yes.
- 1:05:44They're now out of the regulated approved, you know, cafe rules that they have
- 1:05:48out there and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:05:49And so these cars are polluting more, you know, you make more
- 1:05:53power, you burn more fuel.
- 1:05:54It's pretty simple.
- 1:05:55And that means you're emitting more as well.
- 1:05:58I don't fault them for cracking down.
- 1:06:00No.
- 1:06:00But on the same token, you know, what's the statute of limitations
- 1:06:03here is this apply to cars that are 20 years old, but probably not.
- 1:06:07Are they still going to emissions?
- 1:06:09You know, things like that.
- 1:06:10Is it just for the newest of new cars?
- 1:06:12How are they going to tell when your ECU has been tuned, right?
- 1:06:16Because again, maybe they haven't released these specifics, but the
- 1:06:19tuners aren't dumb either, right?
- 1:06:21Well, if this is what they're looking for and it needs to show up a certain way,
- 1:06:25I'm not playing a conspiracy theory here.
- 1:06:27People thrive on these businesses and the aftermarket is bred around making
- 1:06:31cars better and tuning them, making them more powerful and whatever have you.
- 1:06:36So I'm really kind of curious to see how this pans out in the next decade.
- 1:06:39year.
- 1:06:39Now, this apparently went into effect on the 19th of July.
- 1:06:43If you're within this window, starting now and the next two years out,
- 1:06:47you're going to be going through these rolling emissions testing, right?
- 1:06:50So if we have any California listeners out there, let us know.
- 1:06:54We're very curious to see what happens.
- 1:06:56So give us a shout.
- 1:06:57Now joining the bandwagon, right?
- 1:06:59Uh, all these green initiatives, you know, we've heard several times on here from
- 1:07:03the manufacturers directly of when they've put an edict on the tree to say, Hey,
- 1:07:07we're done with petrol engines, right?
- 1:07:09We've heard numbers 20, 25, 26, 32, you know, they're kind of all over
- 1:07:14the map in the next five to 10 years, Canada, our friends in Canada have
- 1:07:19come to the table and said the moose.
- 1:07:22have declared no more petrol in 2035.
- 1:07:25So they're the furthest ones out as far as I can recall from all the
- 1:07:28research that we've done up until this point over the last year.
- 1:07:32So Canada is saying no more petrol power in 2035.
- 1:07:36So the Moose, thank you.
- 1:07:37And we thank you too.
- 1:07:38One last piece of random EV and concept car news.
- 1:07:43Hold on to your seats.
- 1:07:45The king of kit cars has been dethroned.
- 1:07:48Dun, dun, dun!
- 1:07:51The famous, maybe infamous, at least on our show, the Pontiac Fiero, Brad's
- 1:07:57favorite car, has recently been usurped by a gentleman who turned his Porsche Boxster
- 1:08:04into a very legitimate looking McLaren.
- 1:08:08Dun, dun, dun!
- 1:08:08Talk about kit car potential.
- 1:08:11That being said, Fiero and the Boxster, they share nothing in common
- 1:08:15other than the fact that they're mid engine rear wheel drive cars.
- 1:08:18But I like the fact that somebody went there and said, we can do
- 1:08:21something cool with a Boxster, especially an early Boxster.
- 1:08:25They're getting really cheap.
- 1:08:26There's a jillion of them out there and it kind of makes sense
- 1:08:30to start doing something like that.
- 1:08:31It looks pretty cool.
- 1:08:32Legitimately good.
- 1:08:33A lot better than some of the other kit cars we've talked about in the
- 1:08:36past, like the Vader that's built on top of the, you know, G35, G37
- 1:08:40infinities, you know, stuff like that.
- 1:08:41And the old Fiero kits, they just weren't proportioned right for some of these cars.
- 1:08:46But I think this Boxster one looks pretty cool.
- 1:08:48And if it wasn't enough, it's an EV.
- 1:08:51I don't understand the whole kid car based off Fiero or Beetle or
- 1:08:56Boxster or whatever the, I just, I think the whole thing is just dumb.
- 1:09:01If you want a McLaren, like somebody said in the comments on that other
- 1:09:05thing, uh, just get a second job or 15 jobs and you go buy one.
- 1:09:10It's so stupid.
- 1:09:11It's an automatic Boxster.
- 1:09:12It's still
- 1:09:13better than building it in your basement.
- 1:09:17Yeah, cardboard and wood
- 1:09:19with some aluminum foil.
- 1:09:21I don't get the whole, I want to look like somebody else.
- 1:09:24Just leave it a Boxster.
- 1:09:25It's worth more money as a Boxster.
- 1:09:27You're probably right about that.
- 1:09:28I got to hand it to this guy.
- 1:09:30It's a very quality job.
- 1:09:32It's a well done
- 1:09:33car thing, but McLaren, it is not.
- 1:09:36And now it's not even a Boxster.
- 1:09:38Which sadly brings us into our favorite section.
- 1:09:42Used to be called a side of golden nuggets.
- 1:09:45It was would you like fries with that?
- 1:09:47It's changed names several times.
- 1:09:49But now, thankfully, it's called we would be remiss.
- 1:09:54So Tanya, what would we be remiss about this month?
- 1:09:56If we didn't talk about it,
- 1:09:58I think we would be remiss if we didn't talk about Ford trademarking
- 1:10:02the skyline name in the United States.
- 1:10:05That's a great way to kick this off.
- 1:10:06So what's that?
- 1:10:08On July 12th, Ford applied for a United States patent and
- 1:10:13trademark for the term skyline.
- 1:10:16Now they, yeah, that is a great question, Eric.
- 1:10:19And I wish I could tell you why, but I really can't.
- 1:10:23Who knows, but apparently the name Skyline had been used by Ford in the
- 1:10:28past in a different, it was different.
- 1:10:30It was Skyliner.
- 1:10:31It was used on the Crestline, whatever the hell that is, the Fairlane Crown Victoria,
- 1:10:36the Fairlane 500, and the Galaxy.
- 1:10:39They all, I guess, had different models that were Skyliners.
- 1:10:42Uh, there was also a Ford Transit Skyliner in 2014, but none of them were Skyline.
- 1:10:48The only thing I can think of that was Ford Ford Skyline
- 1:10:51were back in the nineties.
- 1:10:53It was very popular for people to put GTR emblems and stuff on their
- 1:10:57F one fifties and their Mustang for, for God knows whatever reason.
- 1:11:03I don't know.
- 1:11:04People were dumb.
- 1:11:05They put it right next to their APC exhaust and, you know, Side
- 1:11:09vents and stuff or whatever.
- 1:11:10Now, as you all know, that the Nissan Skyline is no longer called.
- 1:11:15Well, first of all, the Skyline was never sold in the U.
- 1:11:17S.
- 1:11:17as a Skyline, but it's no longer being termed as a Skyline.
- 1:11:21Even the U.
- 1:11:22S.
- 1:11:22model is GTR.
- 1:11:24There is still a Skyline in Japan.
- 1:11:27Uh, which is basically a US Infinity Q 50, which is Rebadged over there as
- 1:11:31the skyline, but there are no other skylines in, uh, in the us So Ford,
- 1:11:36I mean, they have a right to do this.
- 1:11:37It's just strange.
- 1:11:39I don't get it.
- 1:11:40I'll put it this way.
- 1:11:41It is, and my Ford history isn't nearly as strong as some of my
- 1:11:45others, like, you know, French car history and stuff like that.
- 1:11:47But if memory serves, I think the skyliner type of thing was in reference to.
- 1:11:55Either the ability to open the roof sunroof convertible that type of thing.
- 1:11:59So it was like, oh, yeah, it's a galaxy Skyliner because it's actually
- 1:12:03a convertible like they didn't want to use cabriolet or like we do, you
- 1:12:06know, in some of the other cars.
- 1:12:09So I think that's where that is.
- 1:12:10I have mixed feelings about it because a lot of us latch on to the Skyline
- 1:12:15name, especially when we're talking about the R32s, R33s, R34s, but
- 1:12:20they've always been the GTR, even from the earliest early days of that car.
- 1:12:25So, um, I think it's neither here nor there.
- 1:12:28I'm very curious to see what they're going to slap the skyline badge on.
- 1:12:32I think that's,
- 1:12:33that's the important part of this is what did, what are their plans
- 1:12:36for the future with that badge?
- 1:12:38Exactly.
- 1:12:39Now, if it's the rebirth of the Ford Aerostar, just stop.
- 1:12:42Now I can tell you one thing that I think the skyline name could be
- 1:12:46used for is the new Ford Bronco with the hard tops, because these
- 1:12:49hard tops are pieces of crap.
- 1:12:51And basically what you should do is just take the hard top off.
- 1:12:55And call it a Ford Bronco Skyline.
- 1:12:56Hey, there you go.
- 1:12:57So what's going on with these hardtops?
- 1:12:59They're just junk or?
- 1:13:00They're just, they're poorly made and they're falling apart and
- 1:13:04people are not happy with them.
- 1:13:06Anybody that's owned a Jeep, you know exactly what the Bronco
- 1:13:09people are complaining about.
- 1:13:10You've just decided to deal with it because hey, Jeep life, bro.
- 1:13:14For the Ford people, this is a little rainwater on your head,
- 1:13:17right?
- 1:13:17Who cares about a little rain on your head?
- 1:13:19I mean, just go faster, just move on.
- 1:13:21But yeah, so the, the Ford Bronco hardtops can be skylines because the
- 1:13:26hardtops basically don't work anyway.
- 1:13:27So,
- 1:13:27and you know, what's funny is it seems like this month on we would be remiss.
- 1:13:31We're not really talking about Tesla's for the first time in a year.
- 1:13:35It's pretty crazy.
- 1:13:36It looks like our showcase brand for this segment is actually Ford.
- 1:13:40And there's one more thing we got to talk about, which is, you know,
- 1:13:44right out in left field.
- 1:13:46The Ford Mach E fragrance.
- 1:13:48Is that ode to toilet?
- 1:13:49I mean, toilet?
- 1:13:52Sorry, I just got a
- 1:13:52whiff.
- 1:13:53Okay, hold on.
- 1:13:53So Ford Mach E fragrance.
- 1:13:57So Mach E is an electric car, right?
- 1:14:00Yep.
- 1:14:00I know this.
- 1:14:01I'm just, you know, being, being that way with my questions.
- 1:14:03It's
- 1:14:03rhetorical.
- 1:14:04I get it.
- 1:14:04Yeah.
- 1:14:05No, no.
- 1:14:05And it's good that you answered.
- 1:14:06Who here has played with a train set?
- 1:14:09I know where she's
- 1:14:10going with this.
- 1:14:11Electric
- 1:14:11train set.
- 1:14:12Who remembers that smell, that, that taste almost that gets in your mouth.
- 1:14:18It's called ozone.
- 1:14:19Oh, that smell.
- 1:14:22Can't you smell
- 1:14:22that smell?
- 1:14:24Right?
- 1:14:24Like even, I guess, if you went to an electric go kart
- 1:14:26track, it'd be the same thing.
- 1:14:27So is that what this smells like?
- 1:14:30Oh no, no, no.
- 1:14:32As I read the article, it says the mock O, okay, spell E A U,
- 1:14:38is dis, is dis,
- 1:14:39is dis, That's the name of the fragrance.
- 1:14:41Yes, that's
- 1:14:42French.
- 1:14:43Like many French references we've made on this episode this time.
- 1:14:46It is designed to please the nose of any wearer.
- 1:14:49A high end fragrance that fuses smoky accords, aspects of rubber,
- 1:14:55and even an animal element to give a nod to the Mustang heritage.
- 1:15:00What are we talking about?
- 1:15:02So it smells like a horse stall, because the Mahi is a Mustang.
- 1:15:07That's exactly what I was thinking.
- 1:15:10It smells like horse shit.
- 1:15:11And this is a pile of marketing horse shit.
- 1:15:15You said stalks.
- 1:15:16I thought you were going to say horse's ass.
- 1:15:18I
- 1:15:20have class.
- 1:15:21Whatever.
- 1:15:22This is right up there with the whole Maki 1400, what is it?
- 1:15:26Red chili Tabasco sauce that came out with
- 1:15:30like two
- 1:15:30months
- 1:15:30ago.
- 1:15:31So instead of like, can't even remember who the, the fragrance models are,
- 1:15:35you know, when they walk down and they do their little thing for like Dior
- 1:15:40or whatever, who is going to be the spokesperson, the spokes model for this?
- 1:15:45Is it going to be
- 1:15:48Ken Block.
- 1:15:48No, that would be good.
- 1:15:51Let me do it again.
- 1:15:52I'll get it.
- 1:15:54I'm going to get it.
- 1:15:58It's
- 1:15:58gotta be good.
- 1:15:59This has got to be really good.
- 1:16:03Is it going to be?
- 1:16:04Mr.
- 1:16:05Ed, because it is a Mustang.
- 1:16:08He's a horse.
- 1:16:09Of course, of course, that might be a little too old for some of our listeners.
- 1:16:14It might be right in their wheelhouse too.
- 1:16:16Uh, y'all get new balances for Christmas, but you know, speaking of things
- 1:16:21that smell like a horse's stall, the newest like craze, and I don't
- 1:16:26understand because it is a beautiful blend of agriculture and petrol
- 1:16:31headness, is Clarkson's Farm.
- 1:16:33on Amazon Prime.
- 1:16:35We all love old Top Gear.
- 1:16:37I don't know.
- 1:16:38I don't want to say the Royal We, how we feel about the new Top Gear.
- 1:16:41There's mixed feelings about it, but the old Top Gear was a lot of fun.
- 1:16:44We do miss Clarkson Hammond in May.
- 1:16:46There's obviously a new episode of Grand Tour coming out where they're,
- 1:16:51you somewhere on the planet again, you know, doing an elongated, you
- 1:16:55know, two hour episode, but Clarkson's farm along with Richard Hammond
- 1:16:58show is like the new hot thing.
- 1:17:00And you guys talked a lot about drive to survive and all this kind of stuff.
- 1:17:04And I still haven't given that any time, but my wife came to me and
- 1:17:06said, we got to watch Clarkson's farm.
- 1:17:08You got to check it out.
- 1:17:09Not
- 1:17:10really.
- 1:17:10I mean, I don't know how's Jeremy going to be by himself.
- 1:17:13And I got to say, if you guys haven't watched this show, you got to watch it.
- 1:17:17Not having May and Hammond is actually okay because some of the stuff that
- 1:17:21goes down on the farm is absolutely just hysterical and it's the normal bravado
- 1:17:27and all that stuff you come to expect.
- 1:17:29But the awesome part is, and I haven't finished the series yet and
- 1:17:31I probably will by the time we get to the next drive through, there was a
- 1:17:34lot of back and forth about whether the show was going to be renewed
- 1:17:38and it is official folks, Clarkson's Farm is renewed for a second season.
- 1:17:43So if you haven't Netflixed and binged it yet, It's time to do so on Amazon prime.
- 1:17:48So it wouldn't be, would you like fries for that?
- 1:17:51I mean, we would be remiss if we didn't talk about some Florida people.
- 1:17:55Florida man, Florida man.
- 1:17:58Although our first one isn't a Florida man, believe it's a Georgia man.
- 1:18:02It's Florida man in spirit.
- 1:18:03It's it's Florida adjacent.
- 1:18:09I'm not sure how far south in Georgia this was.
- 1:18:12And I did hear about this on the, it was big news actually, and it caused
- 1:18:16a huge traffic jam and rightfully so, when a bridge moves six feet.
- 1:18:24And how does a bridge move six feet?
- 1:18:26A dump truck hits it.
- 1:18:28Now, wait a second, you know, they have those signs under the bridges, you know,
- 1:18:32however many 13 feet low clearance, blah, blah, blah, meant for tractor
- 1:18:36trailers or other heavy trucks of that nature that can be very tall, you
- 1:18:41know, usually those kind of warnings.
- 1:18:43I don't know.
- 1:18:43Maybe there was a warning here.
- 1:18:45I have a feeling there wasn't.
- 1:18:46I have a feeling clearance shouldn't have been an issue.
- 1:18:49So then how does a dump truck hit a bridge and move it six feet?
- 1:18:52When the dump part of the truck.
- 1:18:55I believe the technical term is bucket.
- 1:18:57The dumper also.
- 1:18:59Or the dumper.
- 1:19:01As they refer to it when the dumper is raised.
- 1:19:05So the dumper was in the dump position going down the road, and of course
- 1:19:11that slammed into the side of a bridge 'cause it's taller than . There's
- 1:19:17not an answer yet as to why the dumper was in the dump position.
- 1:19:22It could have been a malfunction.
- 1:19:23It could have been.
- 1:19:24You gotta go, you gotta go.
- 1:19:29Dude wasn't paying attention.
- 1:19:30I'd like to also understand where the load went, if there was one.
- 1:19:34I've never driven a dump truck, but I feel like you'd probably
- 1:19:37know if your dumper was up.
- 1:19:39Looking at the pictures, it looks like the load is still in the back of the dumper.
- 1:19:43It
- 1:19:43looked like tires were in the
- 1:19:45back.
- 1:19:46He was, he was hauling his tires.
- 1:19:48There is a tire
- 1:19:49shortage right now, folks.
- 1:19:50There is a tire shortage.
- 1:19:50It was
- 1:19:51full of, uh, like, tractor tires.
- 1:19:53There's two things here.
- 1:19:54First of all, I thought it was awesome reading this and the, the kind of
- 1:19:57feedback from the civil engineers.
- 1:20:00Like, we've never seen this before.
- 1:20:01Which kind of goes back to what we were talking about 3D printing the bridges.
- 1:20:05My mind is going back to that for a moment.
- 1:20:07And like, if we can move a classic I beam bridge with the dumper, how
- 1:20:11far do we push a 3D printer bridge?
- 1:20:13But I also want to tip my hat.
- 1:20:15To the diesel engine in this dump truck for going down the highway at
- 1:20:20highway speed with the dumper up and the driver couldn't tell the difference.
- 1:20:25That is some serious Torquem's right there.
- 1:20:27You know how you fix this?
- 1:20:28You back the truck out, you lower the dumper, you go on the other side, you.
- 1:20:33Do it again.
- 1:20:37Hold on guys.
- 1:20:38I'm gonna put, I'm gonna push the bridge back.
- 1:20:39Hold my
- 1:20:39beer.
- 1:20:40Oh, I'll get it fixed.
- 1:20:42I promise you, you won't even know the difference.
- 1:20:45I didn't see the comments you saw or whatnot.
- 1:20:47I'm not sure so much that we've never seen this as an, Oh my God, the bridge moved.
- 1:20:53Versus we've never seen a dump truck hit a bridge like this.
- 1:20:58We've seen trucks in bridges,
- 1:21:00but not like this.
- 1:21:02Oh man.
- 1:21:03You know, honestly, I
- 1:21:04think I'm sure you all probably heard a couple of months, maybe a month
- 1:21:09or two ago about the, the pedestrian bridge that collapsed on 295 in DC.
- 1:21:14I think it was a similar situation.
- 1:21:15A truck hit the pedestrian bridge because trucks aren't supposed
- 1:21:18to be on that road anyway.
- 1:21:19So do we now
- 1:21:20have like an epidemic of trucks hitting bridges?
- 1:21:23We're collecting this data now.
- 1:21:25How many in a year are we going to have?
- 1:21:27This is nuts.
- 1:21:27There's a lot of strange stuff happening on the roads now that COVID's almost over.
- 1:21:34We're going to
- 1:21:34put air quotes on that.
- 1:21:36Yeah, people are out here doing all kinds of funky stuff on the roads.
- 1:21:40Like knocking down bridges.
- 1:21:42I can believe the pedestrian bridge.
- 1:21:43They're not quite as robust as you know, this bridge was, but, and they should be
- 1:21:48designed to a certain extent for lateral forces because high winds, things of that
- 1:21:52nature, but I don't know that they're designed for the full hit that this
- 1:21:59was at who knows, 60, 70 miles an hour.
- 1:22:02I don't even know.
- 1:22:03Insane.
- 1:22:03But you know, Brad, you brought up a really good point.
- 1:22:05Crazy things going on.
- 1:22:07On our roadways post COVID world.
- 1:22:10You remember, you remember last month and I know you had to recap
- 1:22:13last month, but last month we talked about a human powered car, which was
- 1:22:18a South park episode,
- 1:22:20but we reviewed a human powered car, which wasn't anything too shy of a.
- 1:22:25You know, a railroad trolley with an older gentleman kind of pumping away, building
- 1:22:29his arm muscles, you know, in a seemingly Camaro like, you know, kit on top of it.
- 1:22:34But there's another video circulating from the guys at Garage Talk, not
- 1:22:39to be confused with Garage Riot, and
- 1:22:43it is a bicycle powered Honda.
- 1:22:46And if you haven't seen this video, It will have you
- 1:22:49cracking up by the end of it.
- 1:22:50I was absolutely floored.
- 1:22:52These guys basically welded these rails to a front of a Civic that
- 1:22:56doesn't have an engine in it, but still has a manual transmission.
- 1:22:59They hooked up a tandem bicycle.
- 1:23:01So imagine two dudes sitting on the hood of a car, pedaling away while a
- 1:23:07driver is inside trying to see through them, steering and Changing gears.
- 1:23:13Hot gardening.
- 1:23:15So the antics continue to climb.
- 1:23:18I mean, they build this thing, which is hilarious to watch, and then
- 1:23:21they decide we're going to drive it.
- 1:23:23I'm put air quotes around that through a McDonald's drive-through,
- 1:23:26which was entertaining.
- 1:23:27You know, pull up to the window, number one and all that, just
- 1:23:29like here on the drive through.
- 1:23:30But then they were pulled over by a police officer, , and I don't wanna
- 1:23:35spoil it.
- 1:23:36You guys definitely gotta check this out.
- 1:23:38It is.
- 1:23:39Absolutely ridiculous.
- 1:23:40It moves faster than my 1990 Honda Civic did.
- 1:23:44No doubt.
- 1:23:45No doubt.
- 1:23:45It is two human powers,
- 1:23:47a real tandem bicycle, like legit on the pavement would be faster than that.
- 1:23:53I mean, I'll give them the ingenuity welding, you know, the support bars,
- 1:23:59all this stuff, hooking it up to the transmission, actually having it work.
- 1:24:03But hot garbage.
- 1:24:05Yeah, it's pretty bad.
- 1:24:06My favorite part of the video was.
- 1:24:08Since they welded in all those bars and whatnot, obviously to support
- 1:24:11the bicycle on the front end, dude's got his welder hat on pulled up.
- 1:24:16So you can see his face dude starts welding.
- 1:24:18He didn't pull the mask down.
- 1:24:20Oh God.
- 1:24:21At that point, I was like, I'm over this.
- 1:24:23I mean, looking at the, the fact that it's a bicycle on the front of
- 1:24:27a car, do you really have to question their intelligence and the using of
- 1:24:32the welding helmet and everything?
- 1:24:33I think the fact that he had the welding helmet.
- 1:24:37Was a huge win.
- 1:24:39You know, I'm not a welder.
- 1:24:40So maybe there's certain welding you can, you can do that.
- 1:24:43You don't need to put the visor down on.
- 1:24:47Anyway,
- 1:24:48let's change gears to yet another Florida esque story.
- 1:24:52This one was in North Carolina.
- 1:24:55Coming up the, up the coast.
- 1:24:56Come on.
- 1:24:56We're traveling North here.
- 1:24:58I actually, I think we're going to keep traveling North
- 1:25:00through this segment, actually.
- 1:25:01This one belongs.
- 1:25:03In the funeral episode as well, because this 26 year old torched his 2007
- 1:25:09Cadillac, lit it on fire, plumes of smoke on the side of a road next to what could
- 1:25:17be like, I don't know, an apartment or a house, basically trying to do insurance
- 1:25:22fraud and, uh, pretty sure it got caught.
- 1:25:24So good job.
- 1:25:25So this was not the reenactment of waiting to exhale where
- 1:25:29the lady lit her Jeep on fire.
- 1:25:30Remember that one?
- 1:25:31No, no, no.
- 1:25:31Well, she lit the boyfriend's Mercedes on fire or whatever.
- 1:25:36Oh, but yes.
- 1:25:36Oh, in, in the actual movie.
- 1:25:38But yes, the lady that lit her, whoever's Jeep on fire.
- 1:25:41Yes, that was a good one.
- 1:25:44No, no, no.
- 1:25:44This, he wasn't mad at anybody.
- 1:25:46He just needed a little more do re mi and I guess just selling
- 1:25:49the car, wasn't going to cut it.
- 1:25:50So light it on fire.
- 1:25:53Which is really dumb because he did this allegedly back in
- 1:25:57October, November of last year.
- 1:25:59The used car market right now is really hot.
- 1:26:05That's an awesome pun,
- 1:26:06but you know what else?
- 1:26:07I'm sure there was a gentleman on the side of the road with a trash can
- 1:26:11full of water waiting to help him out.
- 1:26:12And to quote Mountain Man Dan, where's my bucket?
- 1:26:16I was going to say, where's Shane with the fire extinguisher?
- 1:26:18In an episode of what seems to be like Ripley's Believe It or Not,
- 1:26:22we have a Ferrari owner that does something I've never seen before.
- 1:26:26I think this is fake.
- 1:26:27I think this is really good video editing.
- 1:26:3020, 30 second clip of this Ferrari.
- 1:26:32It's, this is in the UK, so we didn't go much further North.
- 1:26:35And you got this Ferrari here, sirens, and there's this tractor
- 1:26:39trailer or a lorry, if you will.
- 1:26:42Going down the highway and all of a sudden the ferry pulls up next to
- 1:26:45him, slides underneath it, fast and furious style, in between the front
- 1:26:50and rear wheel tires of this lorry.
- 1:26:53And then he pokes out the other side of it, presumably hitting the brakes,
- 1:26:57falling back while the cop car, whoo, straight by him and the lorry.
- 1:27:03I think it's BS.
- 1:27:04I'm on the fence, but it's kind of cool to look at.
- 1:27:08So we're going to post it in the show notes and you guys judge
- 1:27:10for yourselves and let us know if you think it's fact or Photoshop.
- 1:27:15Photoshop.
- 1:27:17Brad has decided.
- 1:27:18The Viking has spoken.
- 1:27:20Totally Photoshop.
- 1:27:21To go back to the US.
- 1:27:22And to continue our journey north, we land back in Detroit.
- 1:27:27So another Michigan woman.
- 1:27:29Oh man.
- 1:27:29This is how we ended the first drive thru segment on this
- 1:27:33was with the Detroit woman.
- 1:27:35I give props to this woman all day, every day.
- 1:27:40You go girl.
- 1:27:44And there's some really well written articles on this one.
- 1:27:46Not necessarily, uh, the one that's posted.
- 1:27:49So this woman had her Mercedes stolen.
- 1:27:53Okay.
- 1:27:54Beautiful white Mercedes.
- 1:27:55I don't even think it mentions the exact model, but you know, whatever sedans.
- 1:27:59It's probably like a, I think a C class or something like that.
- 1:28:01She had her Mercedes Benz stolen.
- 1:28:03That's
- 1:28:03what happened to Detroit.
- 1:28:04It happened in
- 1:28:05Detroit.
- 1:28:06It's a very sad day.
- 1:28:07Well, she loved her Mercedes very much, so she wasn't going to let it go.
- 1:28:11So she was tracking her car.
- 1:28:12She was tracking it via social media.
- 1:28:16She was reaching out.
- 1:28:17She was trying to find,
- 1:28:18find my Benz app.
- 1:28:19Is that a thing on the Apple phones now?
- 1:28:21I guess not,
- 1:28:22but you know, she was using social media.
- 1:28:24You know, have you seen this car that I thought she was getting hit?
- 1:28:27She found it a few times, called the police.
- 1:28:30By the time the police showed up, the car was gone again.
- 1:28:33Well, they were her Instagram followers, right?
- 1:28:34So it was all this circular thing going on.
- 1:28:38But anyway, go ahead.
- 1:28:39So eventually, again, she tracks her car down.
- 1:28:42She sees it parked in front of a barber shop in a parking lot.
- 1:28:46So she had enough at this point.
- 1:28:47She said, nope, I want my car back.
- 1:28:50So she goes inside the barbershop and she sees the guy sitting in there.
- 1:28:54And she's like, is that your Mercedes out there?
- 1:28:56He's all like, no.
- 1:28:58And she flipped out.
- 1:29:00She grabbed him by the hair, dragged him across the barbershop floor.
- 1:29:07Other people in the store had to like pull her off and like
- 1:29:11they did a citizen's arrest.
- 1:29:13And so they caught the guy, but not only does she like
- 1:29:16give this guy an ass kicking.
- 1:29:18Okay.
- 1:29:20She is next level.
- 1:29:22And how is she next level?
- 1:29:23She
- 1:29:25slashes the tires on her own.
- 1:29:28car.
- 1:29:29Dude, that's legit.
- 1:29:30Cause she was worried he was going to get away and take it again.
- 1:29:35Not today.
- 1:29:36And she slashed her own tires to ground her car.
- 1:29:40Boom.
- 1:29:41That's awesome.
- 1:29:42Actually that is kick ass.
- 1:29:44Next level.
- 1:29:45So you two folks can be a vigilante only in Detroit.
- 1:29:52How did she get to the barbershop if her car was stolen?
- 1:29:56She took an Uber.
- 1:29:56I
- 1:29:59don't think it ever actually explains that.
- 1:30:01But I think actually the barbershop, and I don't know if this article describes
- 1:30:06it, but there was a much longer one that went into, it's a much more
- 1:30:09colorful storytelling, I believe she actually has a place of business that
- 1:30:12was in that same like strip, I think near the barbershop, so she might have
- 1:30:16been at work and saw her car pull up.
- 1:30:19My God.
- 1:30:19Can you imagine?
- 1:30:20It was a really nice car thief, dude, because he had the car detailed.
- 1:30:23So there.
- 1:30:24Hey, that's a
- 1:30:24plus.
- 1:30:25She needs four new tires, but you know, whatever.
- 1:30:27Oh, goody, goody.
- 1:30:29Well, you know, we got to jump yet again to our third segment, which is,
- 1:30:34we need to go behind the pit wall and So I'm going to say this before we get
- 1:30:39into our typical segments, mountain man, Dan sent me like nine pages of
- 1:30:44stuff to cover in his typical way.
- 1:30:46I will tell you guys, there's a bunch of really cool information that he's
- 1:30:49got about the X games and the Barbara Frisch classic and you know, all this
- 1:30:53kind of stuff and actually what we're thinking is maybe doing a potential
- 1:30:56little spinoff for mountain man, Dan, something called the mountain view.
- 1:31:00Where he talks about, you know, more like off roading and
- 1:31:03trucks and things like that.
- 1:31:04So if that's something of interest.
- 1:31:06Give us a shout.
- 1:31:07Let us know.
- 1:31:07We want to get that off the ground and be able to talk about some more
- 1:31:11of those things, but we'd have a ton of other stuff left to cover.
- 1:31:14So we'll leave that to the side, but we will post links to some of the things that
- 1:31:17he wanted to bring to people's attention.
- 1:31:19So we do have to jump into open wheelway racing for a little bit.
- 1:31:23And there's some baby crying and whining and diaper changing
- 1:31:27going on in F1 right now.
- 1:31:30In addition to all the other drama, I just don't get it this year.
- 1:31:33Hamilton's off the hook and then we got May Spin, depending
- 1:31:37on how you pronounce it.
- 1:31:38We talked about him even last month.
- 1:31:39I mean, wrecking a car every time he hits the asphalt.
- 1:31:42And then he's crying that, you know, people aren't letting him win or whatever.
- 1:31:45I just don't get it.
- 1:31:46I cannot.
- 1:31:48Get invested in F1 this year.
- 1:31:50It's just like, it just turns me off.
- 1:31:53I think he just needs to shut up and put up some numbers, start
- 1:31:57actually doing well, and then maybe you'll, you'll have something there.
- 1:32:00I grant granted.
- 1:32:01I understand you're in the Haas, which basically the Haas team is
- 1:32:05completely punted this season.
- 1:32:07They're just waiting for new regulations next year before
- 1:32:10they make any changes to the car.
- 1:32:12So he's essentially driving last year's car pro teams and other
- 1:32:15sports do this all the time.
- 1:32:17You know, they lose on purpose in order to build.
- 1:32:19It's a, it's a rebuilding year.
- 1:32:22Yeah.
- 1:32:22Essentially for the Haas team.
- 1:32:23He should have known that going in because he's Mazda spin and he's
- 1:32:27on a team with Mick Schumacher.
- 1:32:29Both of them are complete rookies.
- 1:32:31If it wasn't for Haas, like giving up this year, they
- 1:32:34probably wouldn't even be an F1.
- 1:32:35I agree.
- 1:32:36Don't bite the hand that feeds you.
- 1:32:37Right.
- 1:32:37Use it as an opportunity to build your technique and to get better as a driver.
- 1:32:42Right.
- 1:32:42And we talk about that all the time, even in our more local motorsport,
- 1:32:46where it's like, you know, if it's not your day, just take a step back
- 1:32:49and just work on some other things.
- 1:32:50Perfect your craft.
- 1:32:52Yeah.
- 1:32:52If you,
- 1:32:52if you want to actually get on a better team, how about you go through
- 1:32:56an entire race without spinning once?
- 1:32:58It actually finished somewhere ahead of 19 or 20 in situations like this.
- 1:33:03You got to turn around and ask yourself, are you doing all that you
- 1:33:06can with what you've been given or you got to ask yourself that make
- 1:33:09sure you're doing everything you can before you start pointing to
- 1:33:12the equipment and stuff like that.
- 1:33:14And I think personally, Haas has given him a gift.
- 1:33:17By, you know, giving him a spot on the team.
- 1:33:20Now, of course they needed his money, you know, in order to do it, but there
- 1:33:22were other billionaires out there that would have loved to drive an F1 and that
- 1:33:26they could have found they chose him.
- 1:33:28Uh, I think he needs to just shut up and drive
- 1:33:30along with that.
- 1:33:31Talking about, you know, working with what you got and all that.
- 1:33:34There's a lot of drama this past weekend at Silverstone with respect to Hamilton.
- 1:33:40You know, he's been the golden boy, but you know, time to talk about
- 1:33:43putting a target on your back.
- 1:33:44You win long enough.
- 1:33:45People start to get a little bit upset and we're starting to see
- 1:33:49some drama in the Hamilton camp.
- 1:33:51So what did you think of that race, Brad?
- 1:33:52I did get to see the incident between Hamilton and Verstappen.
- 1:33:56I mean, the announcers were talking about it, how Hamilton has been in similar
- 1:34:00situations with Verstappen earlier in the year, and he's kind of yielded and
- 1:34:03just let Verstappen go for the sake of, you know, the cars and not wrecking
- 1:34:07and causing an incident or whatever.
- 1:34:09Personally, I didn't think Hamilton did anything wrong.
- 1:34:11He was next to Verstappen.
- 1:34:13He let out of it a little bit because he was offline and
- 1:34:16he needed to make the turn.
- 1:34:17Verstappen looked like he turned into Hamilton.
- 1:34:20Don't roast me.
- 1:34:21This is my take.
- 1:34:22Feel free to think whatever you want to think loyal listeners.
- 1:34:26This is how I see it.
- 1:34:28I'm obviously not part of the FIA, so I have no, you know,
- 1:34:31what I say has no bearing here.
- 1:34:32But personally, I think it was a racing incident.
- 1:34:34I think Hamilton probably shouldn't even have gotten a penalty, period.
- 1:34:38They gave him a penalty.
- 1:34:39Okay, fair enough.
- 1:34:40He ended up winning the race.
- 1:34:41Verstappen was put out of the race.
- 1:34:42I think that's unfortunate for Verstappen, but shit happens.
- 1:34:49More drama, right?
- 1:34:51More suspicion and conspiracy theory that something's up with Hamilton's car because
- 1:34:57Red Bull says that there's data out there, which they haven't surfaced yet.
- 1:35:01That's saying that Hamilton was carrying more speed than he
- 1:35:04should have and all this stuff.
- 1:35:06And where did it come from?
- 1:35:07And they didn't see that kind of data during qualifying.
- 1:35:10And it's like, so they're trying to say, like, I didn't know
- 1:35:13how to interpret it exactly.
- 1:35:14Like, are they trying to say that?
- 1:35:16You know, he did cause the accident because he was carrying more speed
- 1:35:19in the corner than he should have.
- 1:35:20And he purposely rammed into him.
- 1:35:21Or were they saying that there's something going on on the Mercedes?
- 1:35:25Like he's getting a boost to speed somehow.
- 1:35:27I was like, what is all this nonsense?
- 1:35:29I
- 1:35:30think all that's bullshit.
- 1:35:31I think if he was carrying more speed, he would have been ahead of her step.
- 1:35:34And before the turn, he was, you know, Side by Sideward for
- 1:35:37Stepin, almost nose for nose.
- 1:35:38He backed out of it to make the turn, which is how he ended up on Tappin's
- 1:35:43right rear when the incident happened.
- 1:35:45So a any of that stuff, whatever.
- 1:35:48And I think majority of that's probably coming out of the Red Bull Camp, right?
- 1:35:52And it's coming from Christian Horner, Christian Horner's, A,
- 1:35:54a Weasel and a and a Cry baby.
- 1:35:57I'm, I'm just gonna put it out there.
- 1:35:58Uh, I think I thought the same thing about.
- 1:36:00No, these are people that are trying to do everything they possibly can to win.
- 1:36:05And I mean, you haven't watched drive to survive, but I think Tanya
- 1:36:08has, you can see the politics and the politicking that goes on behind
- 1:36:13the scenes between these teams.
- 1:36:15I mean, the last drive to survive was all about, I mean, the first
- 1:36:19episode was all about the force India.
- 1:36:21They're not forcing racing point.
- 1:36:22That was about how their car.
- 1:36:25Was eerily similar to the Mercedes car that won the year prior, all the
- 1:36:29teams were up in arms about, you know, this and going to the race stewards
- 1:36:34and the FIA saying this isn't fair.
- 1:36:36These guys shouldn't be able to do this.
- 1:36:37This car is not legal, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:36:39Who gives a fuck?
- 1:36:40Just let them race.
- 1:36:42Yeah, whatever.
- 1:36:42I think it's all bitching and whining.
- 1:36:44Cause your team's not winning.
- 1:36:45And as Tanya said, numerous times when you're first, I mean,
- 1:36:49you've got a target on your back.
- 1:36:50So was there also some commotion at the end of the race?
- 1:36:53Cause Hamilton was showing off on his win
- 1:36:55that I don't know.
- 1:36:56I didn't hear anything about that.
- 1:36:57I thought I saw something come across my desk.
- 1:36:59There was
- 1:36:59probably something about his race celebration, because I think Max
- 1:37:02Verstappen got in trouble last week for a particular showboating race celebration.
- 1:37:08Well, I, okay.
- 1:37:09So I think what I heard was a Hamilton.
- 1:37:11slowed down to an unsafe speed as he was crossing the line.
- 1:37:16Even though he was mixed in traffic with like back markers and stuff, and
- 1:37:19they were still coming at full speed.
- 1:37:21I think that's what I heard, which yes, if that's the case, and yeah, it's very
- 1:37:25dangerous and you shouldn't be doing that.
- 1:37:26I don't know why people slow down at the line anyway, just go through the
- 1:37:29line full speed and then slow down as you're doing your, your cool down lap.
- 1:37:33You don't have to do it right at the line.
- 1:37:35I think that's stupid.
- 1:37:36But that was less severe than what Verstappen did
- 1:37:38because I supposedly he said.
- 1:37:39Stopped at the line and then did a burnout off the line.
- 1:37:43And there were people still obviously coming around to finish their race.
- 1:37:47Exactly.
- 1:37:48I mean, the, the, the people in the front have total disregard
- 1:37:50for anybody that's behind them.
- 1:37:51Cause if you ain't first, you're last.
- 1:37:53And so they, they slowed down at the line.
- 1:37:55They stop, they cause unsafe situations.
- 1:37:58I've seen it happen time and time again, at the end of these races, just
- 1:38:02go through the line at full speed.
- 1:38:04Do your cool down lap, get down to about four or five tenths of your, your full
- 1:38:09speed, and then do some burnouts with whatever extra fuel you have at the end.
- 1:38:12Like the
- 1:38:13NASCAR guys do, right?
- 1:38:14I mean, there's doing donuts and all that fun stuff.
- 1:38:16Yeah, it's all exactly.
- 1:38:17It was, since we're still talking about F1, the FIA revealed the
- 1:38:21new 2022 design that everybody's supposed to follow, right?
- 1:38:25Because this is formula racing.
- 1:38:27They're supposed to follow a basic principle and design and
- 1:38:30chassis and, and things like that.
- 1:38:32Yeah.
- 1:38:33Yeah.
- 1:38:33Formula racing.
- 1:38:34Right.
- 1:38:34Oh, what do you guys think of this thing?
- 1:38:36I mean, I have
- 1:38:37an Indy car,
- 1:38:38right?
- 1:38:38I was thinking that myself.
- 1:38:40It kind of reminds me of a duck bill platypus.
- 1:38:42I don't care for the rainbow psychedelic, you know, grateful dead
- 1:38:45paint scheme that the reveal was in.
- 1:38:47I'm with you.
- 1:38:48It looked like an Indy car.
- 1:38:49Didn't remind me of anything of a typical formula one car.
- 1:38:52I think part of it was that they're going to a larger race.
- 1:38:55wheel size for the first time in forever.
- 1:38:57They're going away from fifteens and they're going to
- 1:38:59like seventeens or eighteens.
- 1:39:01It makes the car look just like you said, like an Indy car looks odd.
- 1:39:04I feel like sometimes, you know, we've talked about on this show before there's
- 1:39:08only one design that can cheat the wind.
- 1:39:10And I feel like all these goofy cockpit wing designs, and I'm
- 1:39:14sure there's people out there that will hate me for saying this.
- 1:39:16It all feels like they're reinventing the wheel.
- 1:39:19Like, didn't they figure this out?
- 1:39:20Mike.
- 1:39:20I don't know.
- 1:39:21Back in the days of Colin Chapman.
- 1:39:22I mean, it's a beak with a wing on it.
- 1:39:25I mean, it's an open wheel car.
- 1:39:27I mean, how much more can we do to it to make it better?
- 1:39:31I'm
- 1:39:31interested in looking at the wing.
- 1:39:33I'm interested to see how the DRS system works, if they're even
- 1:39:36continuing that in the next year.
- 1:39:38I feel that's like such a video game thing to hit a button and have like,
- 1:39:41basically an electric turbo boost.
- 1:39:43You know, let's, let's move on a little bit.
- 1:39:45Despite all these other things that are going on, you know, love or hate
- 1:39:47formula one, there was something I was actually excited about with
- 1:39:51respect to formula one, and it was on the heels of the Italian soccer team
- 1:39:56winning the Euro cup against Britain.
- 1:39:59Alfa Romeo was eclipsed because they announced that they are going to stay
- 1:40:05in formula one for a multi year deal.
- 1:40:07So I was super excited about that because I like seeing Alfa Romeo out
- 1:40:11there with Ferrari and other brands.
- 1:40:13And I like seeing Kimi Raikkonen is going to have a job next year.
- 1:40:16A
- 1:40:16hundred percent.
- 1:40:17Kind of switching away from, but still adjacent to open wheel news.
- 1:40:21I want to talk about two really important things.
- 1:40:23We all know about climate change.
- 1:40:24We know how it's affecting the world.
- 1:40:26You know, we talk about the EVs all the time.
- 1:40:28It's supposed to be, you know, for the betterment and whatnot.
- 1:40:30You know, in this post COVID world, some things got left to the side, right?
- 1:40:34People are now returning to the larger racetracks like Silverstone this past
- 1:40:38weekend was the first F1 race to have like full grandstands or whatever.
- 1:40:42You know, they've done limited capacity.
- 1:40:43But now they opened it back up.
- 1:40:45And if you look at some of the other tracks that are out there, they're
- 1:40:49almost to the point of abandon.
- 1:40:50And one specifically, I mean, one of the hallmark tracks.
- 1:40:55Spa is like in terrible disrepair.
- 1:40:59Some of that has to do with massive floodings in that area of Belgium
- 1:41:02that have made the parts of the track impassable, you know, with
- 1:41:05dirt, mudslides, sand, et cetera, and then the asphalt itself.
- 1:41:09I mean, it looks like the surface of the moon.
- 1:41:11So I don't know that spa is going to be open this year.
- 1:41:15Even maybe next year as they try to combat the weather and get the
- 1:41:19track back up into fighting shape.
- 1:41:22Really sad to hear that.
- 1:41:23Sad to see the pictures.
- 1:41:24It's in the show notes.
- 1:41:25Check it out for yourself.
- 1:41:26And on the other side, if you guys haven't heard, there's massive
- 1:41:30flooding going on in Germany right now.
- 1:41:32And I was even listening to NPR and they were talking about how.
- 1:41:36Even as advanced as Germany is in their engineering and all the
- 1:41:40things we always talk about on this show, they're not really prepared
- 1:41:44for catastrophic weather conditions like flooding and things like that.
- 1:41:49And so it's kind of an afterthought for them.
- 1:41:51And even now the Nürburgring and its facilities are actually being used.
- 1:41:57And have become a makeshift like relief center.
- 1:42:01And so I really enjoyed this actually came from mountain
- 1:42:03Mandan as it came across my desk.
- 1:42:05And it's good to see this, like we talked about with Coda during
- 1:42:09COVID that they were using the track to give back to the community and
- 1:42:12do something to help the people.
- 1:42:14And so, you know, our thoughts and best wishes go out to the folks in Germany
- 1:42:18and obviously in Belgium too, as they recuperate from these big storms and they
- 1:42:22begin to rebuild and we got to now switch.
- 1:42:25So my favorite discipline of motorsport world rally championship.
- 1:42:29And for the no people that listen to this
- 1:42:33out there still a thing.
- 1:42:35Yes, it's still a thing.
- 1:42:37Ah, my goodness.
- 1:42:39Tanya might be excited about this.
- 1:42:40There may be a few Anglophiles out there that might be excited about this.
- 1:42:44Guess what, guys?
- 1:42:45The Fiesta is out.
- 1:42:47M Sport has said the Puma is in.
- 1:42:50And the Puma Has not been sold here basically ever.
- 1:42:55I think it's a cool name for a Ford and the Cougar and the
- 1:42:58Mustang and those cool names.
- 1:42:59And, you know, we had the car.
- 1:43:01Yeah.
- 1:43:02The skyline, we had the car there for a while, but the Puma is kind of cool.
- 1:43:05It's always been a sporty little kind of hatchback.
- 1:43:08They had a coop there for the nineties.
- 1:43:10There was a lift.
- 1:43:10Back, you know, things like that.
- 1:43:12So it's been around for a while.
- 1:43:13And the Puma was actually sold here at one point as the Mercury
- 1:43:17Cougar in the late nineties, they're kind of rebranded and rebadged.
- 1:43:21So I, I got to take back what I said about it not coming to this country.
- 1:43:24But yes, the Fiesta is basically out.
- 1:43:26The Puma is in, it looks super cool.
- 1:43:28And I'm really excited to see what it does next year in 22 against,
- 1:43:33you know, the entries from Citroen from Hyundai and et cetera.
- 1:43:37So.
- 1:43:38Good on Ford for bringing out something different and we'll see where it goes.
- 1:43:42Meanwhile, in IMSA and WEC news, we talked about it last month.
- 1:43:46Everybody's coming to the surface, right?
- 1:43:48Ferrari, Porsche, BMW.
- 1:43:50Guess what?
- 1:43:52Peugeot has announced they're coming to 2023 with an LMDH.
- 1:43:57Prototype as well known as the nine X eight, because there's always
- 1:44:01been a battle between Porsche and Peugeot about numbering.
- 1:44:04I don't know why they can't settle this for all good.
- 1:44:06Like Peugeot stop calling them 900 series cars.
- 1:44:09It's the first of their hyper cars that they're developing, you know,
- 1:44:12hybrid system, everything that meets the regulations, but there's
- 1:44:15also been a rumor, thank you, Stellantis, that they may also enter.
- 1:44:21Either another one or enter the car in the Mpsa series as a Dodge.
- 1:44:26So you're gonna see Chrysler coming to the table with a reskinned EO nine x eight
- 1:44:33LM DH hypercar here in the near future.
- 1:44:35So I'm actually really excited about that.
- 1:44:37To see a brand like Chrysler slash Dodge come back to the table.
- 1:44:42Maybe we will see something interesting for a change, you know?
- 1:44:45not, you know, Corvette running by themselves or, or
- 1:44:48just Toyota out there, right?
- 1:44:4923 is going to be a great year for IMSA and prototype racing in general.
- 1:44:53So in other news, we got to wrap up just a kind of random piece of
- 1:44:57information that really leads us into talking about our local GTM news.
- 1:45:02And that's Who won VRL Series 15?
- 1:45:05We also did open wheel racing.
- 1:45:07We were kind of back to our normal format of racing for fun.
- 1:45:10We partnered again with the folks over at GarageRite.
- 1:45:12We had a great time.
- 1:45:13It was an open wheel series followed by a sub series of European trucks.
- 1:45:18So hats off to them.
- 1:45:19To our member up in the Northeast region, Sean Roberts, for taking the win in both
- 1:45:24series, series 15 and the ETRC series 15.
- 1:45:271.
- 1:45:28And so congratulations to him.
- 1:45:30He almost had a, basically a clean sweep or a full house.
- 1:45:33I did happen to snag P class, P class is my house.
- 1:45:37I'm just going to say it here for all the public to hear.
- 1:45:39Bring it.
- 1:45:40We picked up a new sponsor in the VRL.
- 1:45:42We are now happy to announce that we're all running dog shit tunes.
- 1:45:49You know, we got to do a lot of homework before we go into our next
- 1:45:52VRL series, uh, series 16, we're hoping kind of gambling on when the new
- 1:45:57Forza Motorsport is going to come out.
- 1:45:59We're going to take a hiatus for anybody who's interested in
- 1:46:01joining our virtual racing league.
- 1:46:02We're probably going to put it off until the fall, and then
- 1:46:05we'll redesign something new.
- 1:46:06Probably go back to our roots.
- 1:46:07As we mentioned before, some B and A spec racing where it's a little bit more
- 1:46:11cars that are, you know, every day that we can modify and have some fun with.
- 1:46:15As we transition into our local news, you know, recapping some events just
- 1:46:19before the last episode came out, we were right on the precipice of heading
- 1:46:23Into our first double header of the year, which was Nelson ledges and pit race
- 1:46:27with our friends over at auto interest.
- 1:46:29I got to say, if you haven't been to Nelson ledges, all the rumors are true.
- 1:46:33It is the fastest farm you've ever raced on and it has been repaid.
- 1:46:38The surface is sticky.
- 1:46:39The course is a lot of fun and the legend does precede it.
- 1:46:43It does have the fastest average lap speed of any track east of the Mississippi.
- 1:46:48Incredibly Quick lap on a two mile circuit and a lot of fun.
- 1:46:54So if you haven't been out to Nelson ledges, highly
- 1:46:56recommend it to go check it out.
- 1:46:57Pit race is a blast.
- 1:46:59As always, we actually ran into Dr.
- 1:47:01T and race Liberante at the track.
- 1:47:03They were there and they chatted with us right before we went into
- 1:47:05our carding showdown with the folks from auto interest, as well as
- 1:47:09some of the ringers from pit race.
- 1:47:11So we went.
- 1:47:12Three on pit race versus AI versus GTM in a three way battle in this grudge match.
- 1:47:19And it was a great mix in the final standings.
- 1:47:22And oddly enough, the instructors took positions three through seven out
- 1:47:28of the 20 folks that were out there.
- 1:47:30So it's funny to see how tight the instructors are.
- 1:47:33And we just get frustrated at each other.
- 1:47:35Because we all drive the same lines.
- 1:47:37So, uh, we'll see what happens next year.
- 1:47:39It was a lot of fun.
- 1:47:40We're standing on an edge now going into our second double header.
- 1:47:44A couple of days after this episode airs, we are heading into summer bash seven.
- 1:47:48This is our biggest summer bash yet.
- 1:47:51It is our seventh anniversary here at GTM commemorating the first year of
- 1:47:55the podcast and everything like that, that we're doing here on this episode.
- 1:47:58But this is a big one for us.
- 1:48:00We're four days at summit point.
- 1:48:02No obligation to come to all of them, but the main event is going to be on
- 1:48:05July 31st, the Saturday and the big draw this year is, you know, we're
- 1:48:10doing the typical party and but we've also partnered with the American
- 1:48:13Cancer Society to do a first ever in our region fundraising walk run event.
- 1:48:20At a racetrack.
- 1:48:20And so summit point has been very gracious to allow us to do this.
- 1:48:24It's super cool.
- 1:48:25We have a lot of people register a lot of fun stuff.
- 1:48:27We're going to have vendors car show again, an after party,
- 1:48:30all sorts of kind of stuff.
- 1:48:31No obligation to donate, but if you haven't done it yet, you know,
- 1:48:35check out our website, go under events and then charity events.
- 1:48:38All the information is there to link you to it.
- 1:48:40Everything you need.
- 1:48:42Our schedule is up on paddock pal for the day.
- 1:48:44So you can see what we're doing when parade labs are, if you want to get
- 1:48:47in the right or an advanced driver.
- 1:48:49You have all these opportunities is an action packed day on July 31st
- 1:48:54at Summit Point Motorsports Park.
- 1:48:56So we're really looking forward to that.
- 1:48:57And again, all the proceeds from the fundraising event are going to the
- 1:49:02American Cancer Society on behalf of all of those that are currently
- 1:49:06battling with cancer and those that we have lost the cancer that Can
- 1:49:10no longer take a checkered flag.
- 1:49:11Great blend of the motor sports world and philanthropy right behind that.
- 1:49:16We are headed to visit our friend Nabil and the rest of the crew at
- 1:49:20just track it at Carolina motor sports park, the weekend of August the sixth.
- 1:49:25So for some of us here at GTM, we have members that live down in that area.
- 1:49:29We got folks from garage ride coming up.
- 1:49:31We mentioned the Dave Peters from HPD junkies.
- 1:49:33going to probably make a cameo appearance.
- 1:49:35We'll see who else is going to be there.
- 1:49:36But for some of us, CMP is going to be new.
- 1:49:39So we're looking forward to getting down there for the first time and checking
- 1:49:42another track off our bucket list.
- 1:49:44So if you happen to be in the area and you happen to be listening and
- 1:49:46you want to come visit with us and see us firsthand and get to know us
- 1:49:49a little better, come visit us the first weekend in August, six, seven,
- 1:49:52eight, there at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina.
- 1:49:56I kind of listed off some events we're going to, and
- 1:49:58we've been to, I always got it.
- 1:50:00Thank Dave Peters over HP junkie for keeping the schedules up to date,
- 1:50:03keeping us sane, you know, allowing us to see what's going on in the entirety
- 1:50:07of North America and getting to see, you know, what kind of track events
- 1:50:11are available, what fits in my schedule and what might fit in your schedule.
- 1:50:14So a couple of things I want to highlight though, that came across my desk from our
- 1:50:17friends at hooked on driving Northeast.
- 1:50:19They have two events coming up in August.
- 1:50:20The 11th and 12th is an advanced and instructor day at Watkins.
- 1:50:26Glenn in combination with the BMW club.
- 1:50:29And then they also have two days on Summit Point, Maine, at the end of August.
- 1:50:33That's August 28, 29 weekends, uh, shortly followed after that.
- 1:50:37They're doing two days.
- 1:50:38They call it lightning strikes twice at NJMP lightning circuit
- 1:50:43at the end of September.
- 1:50:44And me personally, I am looking forward to their season finale at Watkins
- 1:50:49Glen in the third week of October, where we'll be there for three days.
- 1:50:53We'll also be doing our big end of year get together for the folks
- 1:50:57that are able to make it out.
- 1:50:58That event is always a lot of fun.
- 1:51:00That's a Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
- 1:51:01They're usually third weekend of October.
- 1:51:04So if anybody's in the Watkins Glen area or is making the trip, let us know.
- 1:51:08We'd love to get together and see you look for our logo, look for our banner and come
- 1:51:12visit us in our paddock in our garage.
- 1:51:14And, you know, get to know us a little bit better.
- 1:51:16Don't forget to check out the other podcast episodes that aired this month.
- 1:51:20We learn how to look for more advantages in the most unlikely of places.
- 1:51:24By talking tech about motor oils with Liqui Moly.
- 1:51:27We got to the moon and back with Mary and Marianne of Moon Mark, discussing
- 1:51:31their STEM program where high schoolers will be racing on the moon.
- 1:51:35And finally, we expand our oil discussion and crossover with
- 1:51:38Blackstone Joe from Slick Talk podcast and learn about oil analysis.
- 1:51:43Thank you to everyone that came on the show this month, and please look forward
- 1:51:46to more great episodes in season two.
- 1:51:48Absolutely.
- 1:51:49And like we said, at the beginning of the show.
- 1:51:51This episode is number 72, right?
- 1:51:55In our first year, it's huge.
- 1:51:57There's a big backlog of episodes that you probably haven't listened to many
- 1:52:01of which maybe you skipped, right?
- 1:52:03And then there's other bonus content available on Patreon.
- 1:52:06Again, if you're listening to us for the first time, we appreciate you tuning
- 1:52:10in and staying in for one of the longer episodes that comes out every month.
- 1:52:13You know, our news recap episode, this is our 12th one again, commemorating our
- 1:52:17first anniversary, but go back and check out some of those episodes that we've
- 1:52:21done, there's a lot of gems and gold and just some great knowledge altogether.

- 1:53:10But then also the non-Club member guests and, and sponsors and,
- 1:53:14and people that we've had on.
- 1:53:15Uh, we appreciate all that you do out there in the motor sports community.
- 1:53:18I would like to give a special thanks to Donovan Laura for filling in for me

- 1:53:30I appreciate you filling in.
- 1:53:31You did an excellent job.
- 1:53:32I listened to it and There were a couple of cracks about me.
- 1:53:35Well, whatever, that's fine.
- 1:53:36I get it.
- 1:53:36You know, whatever.
- 1:53:39And Tanya, as you look back over the year, anything you want to say to our,
- 1:53:42our loyal three Arbitron rated listeners,

- 1:54:38Happy
- 1:54:42anniversary.
- 1:54:52There's some idiot in a Volvo with his bright son behind me.
