Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: This is a bramble Jam podcast.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Welcome to a Girl's Gone Homework, a homework review podcast.
- 0:25Speaker 2: I'm Megan and I'm a longtime Homewark fan. And on
- 0:28Speaker 2: today's episode of Girls Gone Hamewark, we are discussing the
- 0:31Speaker 2: Chicken Sisters season two, Episode three, Daddy's Home, y'all. As
- 0:37Speaker 2: a reminder, we are doing things a little bit different
- 0:39Speaker 2: for the Chicken Sisters. Wendy has stepped away from these reviews,
- 0:43Speaker 2: and I'm joined by our rotating cast of co hosts.
- 0:47Speaker 2: And joining us for episode three is Sydney Child, the
- 0:50Speaker 2: woman behind the absolutely adorable Instagram account Mary Movie Club.
- 0:56Speaker 2: You cover a ton of Hallmark content over there, but
- 0:58Speaker 2: it's also Hallmark and Hallmark adjacent. It's really totally aligned
- 1:03Speaker 2: with the kind of content I like, feel good books,
- 1:05Speaker 2: TV shows, movies. I would say Hallmark is a heavy
- 1:10Speaker 2: piece of that, but there's a lot more, which is great.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Thank you for being here, Sydney, Thank.
- 1:17Speaker 3: You for having me. I am honored. I am a
- 1:20Speaker 3: longtime listener. I love your podcast, so when you reached out,
- 1:23Speaker 3: I was like flattered, and I'm just so excited to
- 1:27Speaker 3: meet you and be here and chat all things that
- 1:30Speaker 3: Chicken Sisters and Hallmark and hopefully do you proud I
- 1:34Speaker 3: told you this earlier, but I've only been I think,
- 1:35Speaker 3: on one other podcast before, so I'm a new be here.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Well you'll be great. This is easy. This is easy.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Can you tell us.
- 1:43Speaker 2: A little bit how Mary movie cub came to be?
- 1:47Speaker 1: Yes, I would love to. So.
- 1:49Speaker 3: I for years have been just talking Hallmark movies with
- 1:53Speaker 3: my friends and family, always recruiting them to watch, you know,
- 1:56Speaker 3: some of my favorites.
- 1:57Speaker 1: And I have a person.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Instagram that I hardly ever use, but I started kind
- 2:02Speaker 3: of posting little like, oh hey, I watched this Christmas
- 2:05Speaker 3: movie tonight and I loved it and here's why. And
- 2:08Speaker 3: some of my friends were like, you should make a
- 2:10Speaker 3: separate account and like review these for real, and so
- 2:16Speaker 3: I just did. I literally less than two years ago,
- 2:19Speaker 3: in October. So right before the twenty twenty three Christmas season,
- 2:21Speaker 3: I just started a new Instagram page. And you mentioned
- 2:25Speaker 3: this already, but I just talk all things Hallmark movies
- 2:29Speaker 3: and Hallmark adjacent Hallmark esque like books and movies on
- 2:33Speaker 3: Netflix and some of the other networks. And I'm just
- 2:36Speaker 3: very passionate about like clean, happy, wholesome entertainment I'm thirty,
- 2:41Speaker 3: so it's a little more rare for girls my age,
- 2:44Speaker 3: I think to watch Hallmark and some of these other shows.
- 2:47Speaker 3: So I'm just trying to make it cool, you know,
- 2:49Speaker 3: for girls my age, and I'm like, hey, there's really
- 2:51Speaker 3: cool content on Hallmark, and we don't have to watch
- 2:54Speaker 3: you know, some of the other stuff that isn't as
- 2:56Speaker 3: like clean and wholesome. So it's just something I'm passionate
- 2:59Speaker 3: about and it's been so much fun.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel the same way because I feel like,
- 3:02Speaker 2: even though you are much younger than Wnny and I are,
- 3:05Speaker 2: but I still feel like we sometimes are on the
- 3:07Speaker 2: younger end of the spectrum and I sometimes feel like, no, like,
- 3:10Speaker 2: come on over, like there's there's some good stuff here.
- 3:12Speaker 3: So there's great stuff here, and especially recently, I feel
- 3:18Speaker 3: like it just every season, I feel like keeps getting
- 3:20Speaker 3: better and better. So I've slowly been recruiting my friends over,
- 3:24Speaker 3: and you know, I'll host like movie nights and we'll
- 3:27Speaker 3: watch some of my favorites and.
- 3:28Speaker 1: It's just fun.
- 3:29Speaker 3: I just think it's fun to chat about movies and
- 3:32Speaker 3: books and all the happy things.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Yeah, Now you liked Providence Falls on Howmark Loved Yes
- 3:38Speaker 2: one of my favorite, I think one of my favorite,
- 3:41Speaker 2: if not my favorite Hallmark series of all time. Were
- 3:43Speaker 2: you surprised by House Split people were on their feelings
- 3:46Speaker 2: about that series, I have.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Been yes, because I just loved it. Yeah, and I
- 3:53Speaker 1: loved it from the very beginning.
- 3:55Speaker 3: I mean there were elements of it, right, Like it's
- 3:57Speaker 3: a Hallmark series, so there's elements, you know, that are
- 4:00Speaker 3: little confusing or a little cheesy. But for the most part,
- 4:02Speaker 3: I loved it from like minute one of episode one,
- 4:04Speaker 3: and so the fact that there were some people that
- 4:07Speaker 3: didn't connect with it, I'm like, you've got to rewatch it.
- 4:09Speaker 1: I don't know, give it another chance. Yeah.
- 4:11Speaker 2: I really feel the same way too, And it's hard
- 4:13Speaker 2: because some people just don't connect with certain things, and
- 4:16Speaker 2: that's totally fine, Like some things don't hit for me either,
- 4:18Speaker 2: But I'm like, no, I don't think you're getting how
- 4:21Speaker 2: good this really is, like the production value and the
- 4:24Speaker 2: storytelling and the acting, and I think it was so
- 4:27Speaker 2: different from what people have been conditioned to expect that
- 4:31Speaker 2: some people had a hard time.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Getting into it.
- 4:35Speaker 2: But I do think it's worth a second look, Like
- 4:37Speaker 2: if you know what it is now now that it's
- 4:39Speaker 2: out there. I think people were confused to like what
- 4:41Speaker 2: they were gonna get. They're like, what's a trilogy? That's
- 4:44Speaker 2: not something we've really seen before, Like it's usually a
- 4:46Speaker 2: collection of loosely related movie.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Yes, and is it? Is it a mystery? Is it
- 4:52Speaker 1: a romance? Time travel? Is it just a period piece?
- 4:55Speaker 3: Like there's a lot of elements to it that I
- 4:57Speaker 3: think feel a little bit confusing. Even when I watched
- 5:00Speaker 3: the trailers, I was even confused.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I was like, same, honestly, I don't know what this is.
- 5:04Speaker 3: But Evan Roderickson it so like I'm in because I
- 5:07Speaker 3: love it. But I ended up falling in love with
- 5:10Speaker 3: the whole cast and the whole premise.
- 5:11Speaker 1: But I did.
- 5:12Speaker 3: I will say I rewatched all three of the movies,
- 5:15Speaker 3: and it was even better for me the second time
- 5:17Speaker 3: through because it just felt a little less confusing. I
- 5:19Speaker 3: was like, Okay, I know, like what genre this kind
- 5:21Speaker 3: of is. I know what to expect. I was able
- 5:23Speaker 3: to pick up on a lot more of the details.
- 5:25Speaker 3: So for me, I like loved in on the first round,
- 5:28Speaker 3: but it was definitely a little confusing and like getting
- 5:31Speaker 3: settled into it, and then the second round was like
- 5:33Speaker 3: just five out of five perfect for me.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you're right about it, the promotion being
- 5:38Speaker 2: a little confusing because I didn't even know. I was
- 5:40Speaker 2: like in I went into it thinking it was a
- 5:42Speaker 2: time travel series, and I read the books and I
- 5:45Speaker 2: was like waiting or I read the first book and
- 5:47Speaker 2: I was like, oh wait, that's not what this is
- 5:49Speaker 2: at all. So I had to reorient my expectations for it.
- 5:52Speaker 1: But I was expecting like biltmore Christmas, like yeah, yeah,
- 5:56Speaker 1: you travel. Yes, it was not that. No.
- 6:00Speaker 2: No, yeah, well let's switch gears and talk the Chicken
- 6:04Speaker 2: Sisters before we talk this specific episode. I would love
- 6:07Speaker 2: to hear your personal history or lack thereof wherever you
- 6:10Speaker 2: are with the Chicken Sisters. Did you watch season one?
- 6:14Speaker 2: If you did, what'd you think where are you with
- 6:16Speaker 2: season two?
- 6:18Speaker 1: Yes? I would love to.
- 6:20Speaker 3: When you reached out for this podcast, I told you
- 6:22Speaker 3: this on Instagram, I was like, I've never seen this show,
- 6:25Speaker 3: but I'm happy to give it a try and you know,
- 6:28Speaker 3: join the podcast and talk about it. So I did watch,
- 6:31Speaker 3: like back when when season one aired. I did watch
- 6:34Speaker 3: the first episode. I just didn't like totally get hooked.
- 6:37Speaker 3: I honestly was just kind of bored. And then I
- 6:40Speaker 3: just didn't end up watching the rest of the season.
- 6:42Speaker 3: I didn't feel like I saw a lot of people
- 6:43Speaker 3: talking about it or raving about it, and there's so
- 6:45Speaker 3: much there's so much content as you share so many options.
- 6:49Speaker 3: I work full time, I have a three year old,
- 6:51Speaker 3: so like you really got a pick and choose. I
- 6:52Speaker 3: get like maybe one episode of something a day, and
- 6:55Speaker 3: that's about it on a good day.
- 6:57Speaker 1: So I didn't end up watching it.
- 6:59Speaker 3: So for this yes, we're reviewing episode three today. I
- 7:03Speaker 3: did start with season two just as it's airing, so
- 7:07Speaker 3: I have watched episodes one and two and then that's
- 7:09Speaker 3: okay talk about today. So definitely confusing jumping into season
- 7:14Speaker 3: two not having seen season one, but I did my best.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Well we can, yeah, and as those questions come up,
- 7:20Speaker 2: we can talk about those.
- 7:21Speaker 1: This has a lot of questions for you.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's you're right. I don't think people talk
- 7:28Speaker 2: about this show. I mean you'll hear my thoughts on it.
- 7:31Speaker 2: I think this show is definitely not for everybody. I
- 7:35Speaker 2: think season two overall is so much better than season one.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I really like it. I understand the complaints about it.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Wendy obviously doesn't enjoy it, which is why she was like,
- 7:45Speaker 2: I'm out. Yeah, So we are going to jump into
- 7:53Speaker 2: the Chicken Sisters Season two, episode three thoughts. Before we
- 7:57Speaker 2: do that, we're gonna take a quick break and we're
- 7:59Speaker 2: gonna come right back with our first impressions. All right, Sidney,
- 8:10Speaker 2: what was your first impression of Daddy's home? Y'all?
- 8:13Speaker 3: Okay, So this episode to me feels like it was
- 8:16Speaker 3: a growth episode, like a lot of character growth happening.
- 8:19Speaker 3: And again I don't have the full context of season one,
- 8:23Speaker 3: but it just felt like there were so many moments
- 8:25Speaker 3: that were pivotal for a lot of the characters. Obviously,
- 8:29Speaker 3: you know, May is meeting her daddy for the first time.
- 8:32Speaker 3: She also goes to we can give spoilers, right, Oh yeah, okay,
- 8:36Speaker 3: she goes to her her mom Gus Gussie gush and like.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Says thank you, and they have this beautiful moment. We have.
- 8:45Speaker 3: I believe her name's Frankie. The teenager like has her
- 8:48Speaker 3: first kiss with her boyfriend. There was like this friendship
- 8:54Speaker 3: where I'm gathering that they were like rivals before and
- 8:57Speaker 3: now they're friends, and they had a couple of really
- 8:59Speaker 3: sweet moments together. We have like Frank Junior seems like
- 9:03Speaker 3: he's kind of going to have like a character arc
- 9:06Speaker 3: situation with like this new chicken restaurant. There just seemed
- 9:10Speaker 3: like every single character had a moment of like growth.
- 9:15Speaker 1: And it's like, maybe.
- 9:16Speaker 3: I'm wrong because I don't have the full context, but
- 9:18Speaker 3: that's what it seemed like.
- 9:19Speaker 2: First impressions, Yeah, I think I think that's accurate too.
- 9:23Speaker 2: And I think we're seeing like all the reactions to
- 9:30Speaker 2: everything that the groundwork is late in season one. So
- 9:33Speaker 2: I do think we talked about this in episode one
- 9:37Speaker 2: our review. Leah Thompson, who directed the first episode, she
- 9:40Speaker 2: was like, y'all can jump in season two. You don't
- 9:42Speaker 2: need to have seen it, and we were like, well,
- 9:44Speaker 2: of course the star of the show, the director of
- 9:46Speaker 2: the show is going to say, Yeah, you don't have
- 9:49Speaker 2: to you don't have to.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Do the Horme modo.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Watch a show.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Yeah, and I do think it's.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Watchable, But I do think they are building so much
- 9:56Speaker 2: on the foundation late. That's that's natural, right. I agree
- 10:00Speaker 2: this was an absolute growth episode. A lot of my
- 10:03Speaker 2: likes use that word growth. For me, my first impression
- 10:07Speaker 2: is we got an email from listener Paula, who is
- 10:09Speaker 2: a regular emailer of the show, and she ended the
- 10:13Speaker 2: email with, I hope I'm not bothering you, Paula. We
- 10:15Speaker 2: love your emails, even if I don't agree with us.
- 10:17Speaker 2: But what she said was she's a big fan of
- 10:19Speaker 2: the show is very disappointed that people don't love it
- 10:22Speaker 2: as much as she does. But she pointed out, and
- 10:25Speaker 2: I think it's really important to note is that this town,
- 10:30Speaker 2: this show is all about the women. The women are
- 10:32Speaker 2: the ones in power, The women are the ones moving
- 10:34Speaker 2: the storyline forward, and that's kind of unique in storytelling period.
- 10:40Speaker 2: But I think especially storytelling on Hallmark, to have like
- 10:42Speaker 2: this town that's centered around like all of these strong
- 10:45Speaker 2: women and the men really aren't doing anything to move
- 10:49Speaker 2: them forward. So I think watching this episode especially and
- 10:53Speaker 2: this season through those eyes, you know, my favorite characters
- 10:57Speaker 2: are all all the women.
- 11:01Speaker 1: It's very girl power.
- 11:02Speaker 3: But it's like it's subtle, though it's not in my
- 11:05Speaker 3: opinion from the you know, the few episodes I've seen,
- 11:07Speaker 3: it's not this like obnoxious, in your face like theme
- 11:10Speaker 3: they're sure throw at you. It's actually like pretty subtle.
- 11:13Speaker 3: But you're right, it's totally empowering these women living their
- 11:17Speaker 3: lives showing like the highs and lows, So that is
- 11:19Speaker 3: I like that perspective.
- 11:20Speaker 1: It's cool.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Yeah, And I don't think I don't think it's the
- 11:23Speaker 2: women being in power at the expense of the men
- 11:26Speaker 2: really because I think it's almost like in spite of them,
- 11:29Speaker 2: Like it's not like we're pushing the men down. It's like, look,
- 11:32Speaker 2: we're finding our own Nancy, Amanda, they're really coming into
- 11:35Speaker 2: their own on their own, not you know, at the
- 11:40Speaker 2: expense of the men in their lives. So with that said,
- 11:42Speaker 2: let's talk about what you liked from this episode.
- 11:47Speaker 3: Okay, I wrote down a few things. Number One, the
- 11:52Speaker 3: chemistry between Amanda and is his name Sergio, is that
- 11:57Speaker 3: the chef.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Amazing chemistry. I was.
- 12:02Speaker 3: I was not expecting that again because I have no
- 12:05Speaker 3: idea what's going on, so I'm just like piecing this
- 12:07Speaker 3: all together.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Amazing chemistry.
- 12:09Speaker 3: I loved the date that kind of ended up turning
- 12:13Speaker 3: into their date and how they ended it and he
- 12:16Speaker 3: just gives it this big hug and there's like a
- 12:18Speaker 3: really cool narration behind it. Loved their chemistry. It like
- 12:23Speaker 3: made me want to go back and watch season one
- 12:26Speaker 3: to understand like the foundation there and like sure, what
- 12:29Speaker 3: their backstory is, because I'm sure you're you're probably like, yes,
- 12:32Speaker 3: there's there's a background, and I could tell. And then
- 12:38Speaker 3: I obviously loved the moment where May meets her dad
- 12:41Speaker 3: for the first time. I just thought that was like
- 12:43Speaker 3: so sweet. I teared up, even though I haven't you know,
- 12:46Speaker 3: I don't know these characters, I still tear up, Like
- 12:48Speaker 3: it was just a really emotional moment. There's a couple more,
- 12:54Speaker 3: do you want me to keep going?
- 12:55Speaker 1: Okay, So there was I think this was towards the
- 12:59Speaker 1: beginning of the episode. I'm trying to remember.
- 13:01Speaker 3: There was like the background, not background, the flashback of
- 13:06Speaker 3: Gus and Clayton, Yeah, from when they were younger, and
- 13:09Speaker 3: it kind of showed this montage of them dating and
- 13:11Speaker 3: falling in love and then getting pregnant and then him
- 13:14Speaker 3: leaving kind.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Of the heartbreak there.
- 13:15Speaker 3: I just thought that was like a really beautiful kind
- 13:18Speaker 3: of like insight into their story and showing again like
- 13:23Speaker 3: the highs and the lows. It was very like romantic
- 13:26Speaker 3: and swoony, but then you have like this heartbreak at
- 13:28Speaker 3: the end, and then obviously it cuts to current day,
- 13:31Speaker 3: and so it was kind of cool to have that inside.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Of her like dating the hot popular player.
- 13:37Speaker 2: I'm like, you go girl, yeah, the Franni's boy and
- 13:40Speaker 2: the Amis girl for sure, yes.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Super cool.
- 13:44Speaker 3: And then again, I love last thing I wrote down
- 13:47Speaker 3: was just the friendship that it seems like has blossomed
- 13:50Speaker 3: between those two the families that you just mentioned, because
- 13:55Speaker 3: the one episode I did watch in the very first season,
- 13:58Speaker 3: very first episode was like this rivalry and they're friends.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Now, Okay, that's sweet.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, the whole first season arc is about,
- 14:06Speaker 2: you know, the two the Franny's and the Mimi's rivalry,
- 14:10Speaker 2: and then they kind of come together against a common
- 14:12Speaker 2: enemy who is now Frank Junior and Christian mister Chicken.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Your point about Sergio and Amanda. I really feel like
- 14:20Speaker 2: this season is a little bit of redemption because in
- 14:22Speaker 2: season one, Amanda was in a terrible marriage with Frank Junior.
- 14:26Speaker 2: But she has this relationship with Sergio. I think they
- 14:31Speaker 2: only kiss one time, but she's definitely having an emotional
- 14:34Speaker 2: affair at the very least, and so viewers are kind
- 14:37Speaker 2: of torn. You're like, well, I hate Frank Junior, but
- 14:39Speaker 2: she's still married, so she needs to make a decision, right, Like,
- 14:42Speaker 2: she needs to leave her marriage doesn't absolve her of
- 14:46Speaker 2: blame simply because her husband sucks, and he does. He
- 14:49Speaker 2: does suck, he does. He's the absolute worst. And at
- 14:54Speaker 2: the end of the season one, Amanda has left Frank
- 15:00Speaker 2: Junior and she's telling Sergia like I need I can't.
- 15:04Speaker 2: I'm not saying never, but I need time to find myself.
- 15:07Speaker 2: And and you know, this season starts nine months in
- 15:09Speaker 2: the future and she's still very single and still not
- 15:12Speaker 2: interesting interested in dating. And I think it's really smart,
- 15:16Speaker 2: Like we did not want to see her jump into
- 15:17Speaker 2: a relationship with Sergio, and I think it gives the
- 15:20Speaker 2: viewers time to care about that relationship when it happens
- 15:23Speaker 2: in a safer place, so to say.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Okay, yes, so.
- 15:28Speaker 2: I like the timing of like Sergio showing up. He's
- 15:31Speaker 2: still real nervous and uncomfortable around her, but they had
- 15:33Speaker 2: that nice, very platonic dinner together.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Yes, nice little dinner, nice hug at the end. Support
- 15:40Speaker 1: yes or so?
- 15:42Speaker 3: Question for you, why is Frank Junior dragging his feet
- 15:46Speaker 3: on signing the divorce papers. Hopefully that doesn't open like
- 15:49Speaker 3: total Paidora's box. But I was curious on that one piece.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a power thing, like One of the big
- 15:55Speaker 2: storyline reveals at the end of season one is a
- 15:57Speaker 2: lot of the rivalry between the two families was based
- 16:01Speaker 2: kind of in falsehoods and exaggerated experiences that the men
- 16:07Speaker 2: had perpetuated in order to get the women fighting, so
- 16:13Speaker 2: to speak. Like it was a power move, Like the
- 16:15Speaker 2: men wanted to have power of the women, and this
- 16:17Speaker 2: is how they did it. And so I think it
- 16:19Speaker 2: just trickles down. You know, Frank Senior, who's Frank Junior's dad,
- 16:23Speaker 2: Nancy's husband who has passed, He was a big part
- 16:26Speaker 2: of that. He was a bad guy too, And so
- 16:29Speaker 2: the men in the town have exerted power over the
- 16:32Speaker 2: women to get them to do what they have wanted.
- 16:34Speaker 2: And I think we're just seeing Frank Junior continuing that,
- 16:37Speaker 2: like this is the only card he has to play,
- 16:40Speaker 2: is I'm not going to sign the divorce papers. He
- 16:42Speaker 2: has nothing else left, Like yeah, okay, there's nothing else
- 16:45Speaker 2: control thing.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, So.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Some other things I liked talking about growth. I love
- 16:53Speaker 2: seeing Gus's growth now. In episode one our review, Brian Harold,
- 16:57Speaker 2: our co host, was like, I don't I don't buy it,
- 16:59Speaker 2: Like I think it's true to who she is and
- 17:02Speaker 2: I thought that was an interesting take. But now seeing
- 17:05Speaker 2: you know we're a couple of episodes in, I think
- 17:09Speaker 2: I think I can trust her transformation now. I don't
- 17:12Speaker 2: think that means we're not going to get her snapping
- 17:14Speaker 2: back to who she was. I don't think that means
- 17:16Speaker 2: there's not going to be something this season that pushes
- 17:19Speaker 2: her back into her real defensive place. But she's finally
- 17:23Speaker 2: in a place where she feels safe. She has people
- 17:26Speaker 2: showing up for her, she doesn't have to keep secrets,
- 17:29Speaker 2: she knows that people are going to let her in.
- 17:34Speaker 2: She has people looking out for her. I mean, she
- 17:35Speaker 2: and Nancy live together, and so I think therefore she's
- 17:39Speaker 2: now able to give that back. She's able to be
- 17:42Speaker 2: the parent that may needs her to be, and she's
- 17:44Speaker 2: a good friend to Nancy, and she's doing things for
- 17:47Speaker 2: other people. I buy it, and I like it. I
- 17:51Speaker 2: am afraid she's going to disappoint us a little later
- 17:53Speaker 2: in the season when she gets pushed a little bit
- 17:56Speaker 2: too hard.
- 17:58Speaker 1: She probably won't.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I really loved the scene when Clayton comes to
- 18:02Speaker 2: her at the end and basically lays it all on
- 18:05Speaker 2: the line, Because when Clayton was talking to May. My
- 18:08Speaker 2: feeling was like, okay, but this is great, but she's thirty, however,
- 18:13Speaker 2: many years old. Where have you been? Like that's great
- 18:16Speaker 2: that you get to come in and kind of be
- 18:18Speaker 2: the hero now, but it kind of almost bothered me
- 18:22Speaker 2: a little bit that May wasn't like okay, but why
- 18:26Speaker 2: weren't you ever here before?
- 18:27Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 18:28Speaker 3: Buddy, Yeah, I thought the same thing, and I talked
- 18:32Speaker 3: it up to like, oh, well, I haven't you know,
- 18:34Speaker 3: seen much yet, but it sounds like you have the
- 18:36Speaker 3: similar sentiment of like, okay, well I could see, you know,
- 18:40Speaker 3: maybe the first few years of her life.
- 18:42Speaker 1: He was young.
- 18:42Speaker 3: I think I think they were in high school or college,
- 18:46Speaker 3: and then even at the end when they have you know,
- 18:49Speaker 3: this like heartfelt moment between him and guests on her doorstep.
- 18:53Speaker 3: I was like, Okay, he's gonna explain it, like where
- 18:56Speaker 3: have you been for thirty years?
- 18:57Speaker 1: Why did you not come around?
- 18:58Speaker 3: And he kind of did, right, He said something along
- 19:01Speaker 3: the lines of like I did I called and you
- 19:02Speaker 3: disconnected your phone. I did come back and I saw
- 19:06Speaker 3: you with May, and then you were also pregnant and
- 19:08Speaker 3: I think remarried or something. But I still was like okay, yeah,
- 19:13Speaker 3: but like that was still like what thirty years ago,
- 19:15Speaker 3: twenty eight years ago at this point probably, So it
- 19:18Speaker 3: just feels like a lot of time has passed and
- 19:22Speaker 3: not that one moment when he saw them, when she
- 19:25Speaker 3: was like two crossing the road. I'm like, okay, well,
- 19:28Speaker 3: I still feel like you could have come back at
- 19:30Speaker 3: some point from that, like from then and now.
- 19:32Speaker 2: So yeah, it was more about his relationship with Gus
- 19:36Speaker 2: and his relationship with may. I feel like it's too
- 19:38Speaker 2: easy for him to say, like, oh, she looked at
- 19:39Speaker 2: you and you were all she needed. Okay, but that
- 19:42Speaker 2: wasn't for you to decide.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Yes, I love that. So for him to decide, I'm like, yes,
- 19:48Speaker 1: she probably needs her dad.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Yeah, So I'm curious if we're going to explore that
- 19:52Speaker 2: at all. Uh, you know, there's so much going on
- 19:55Speaker 2: in this show that they can't get into every single
- 19:57Speaker 2: that may just be it that it just maybe you know,
- 20:00Speaker 2: he says he'll regret it for the rest of his life,
- 20:02Speaker 2: and maybe we just move forward.
- 20:03Speaker 1: I don't know, maybe we just have to accept it. Yeah.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Look again, I still think Frank Junior is the worst.
- 20:09Speaker 2: But his dance montage where he finally gets fed up
- 20:12Speaker 2: and makes edible chicken was great, really funny.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Yes, with the background, that was funny. Yeah.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Great. Speaking of Sergio, when he says to a man,
- 20:24Speaker 2: I wouldn't have left you in that dress. Great, that's
- 20:27Speaker 2: a great line.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Good line.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Another line is Frankie when she's trying to help a
- 20:31Speaker 2: man to get dressed. She says, that dress looks like
- 20:32Speaker 2: you still have a landline.
- 20:35Speaker 1: I've read that down too.
- 20:38Speaker 2: And finally, I think this is something that is lost
- 20:40Speaker 2: on anybody who didn't watch season one. The Lindsay and
- 20:43Speaker 2: Frankie tension. To you, your read on them is that
- 20:50Speaker 2: they are friends.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Yes, who's Lindsay.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Lindsay is Sabrina's daughter, Frankie's friend who's visiting.
- 20:59Speaker 1: From Yes, I just thought she was just a random friend. Yeah, so.
- 21:04Speaker 2: She is. She's Sabrina's daughter. So Sabrina was the host
- 21:08Speaker 2: of Kitchen Clash. Okay, Yes, and they met in town.
- 21:12Speaker 2: They originally they had some Lindsay wasn't a great friend
- 21:17Speaker 2: of Frankie. She was kind of using her to get
- 21:18Speaker 2: like information about the show. They became friends. There was
- 21:22Speaker 2: a lot of heavily suggested there's maybe some romantic feelings there.
- 21:27Speaker 2: It was never said, but a lot of the viewers
- 21:30Speaker 2: Lindsay and Frankie.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Oh okay, okay, okay, did.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Not Yeah, it's it's I think it could be. If
- 21:38Speaker 2: you wanted to miss it, you could miss it. If
- 21:39Speaker 2: you're not hoping for it, you could miss it. I
- 21:41Speaker 2: felt like this season finale very much. They both left
- 21:44Speaker 2: in a place of because Lindsay leeves and goes back
- 21:46Speaker 2: to New York, I'm not alone and feeling this. A
- 21:49Speaker 2: lot of us were like, something's there. And I loved
- 21:52Speaker 2: the scene where Lindsay is talking about Dudley and she
- 21:55Speaker 2: learns that she's never Frankie, has never kissed him, and
- 21:58Speaker 2: her voice goes up when she talks about It's such
- 22:01Speaker 2: a great acting choice because there is no doubt in
- 22:05Speaker 2: my mind that whether they go there or not, they
- 22:07Speaker 2: are hinting that there are feelings there, at least on
- 22:11Speaker 2: Lindsay's behalf. I feel like it's shared, okay, So I'm
- 22:18Speaker 2: enjoying that tension. I I hope we get there.
- 22:21Speaker 1: I really do.
- 22:21Speaker 2: I mean, I feel like this entire season is building
- 22:23Speaker 2: towards the wedding and we're gonna just get like reveal
- 22:25Speaker 2: after reveal after reveal. At the wedding, but I did
- 22:29Speaker 2: love her kind of having to push through that moment
- 22:32Speaker 2: and be like, I'm gonna be a good girlfriend and
- 22:33Speaker 2: I'm gonna get you your first kiss, even though yeah, Okay,
- 22:36Speaker 2: this isn't the moment that I'm hoping for.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Okay, that that is very helpful because I didn't. I
- 22:42Speaker 3: didn't pick up on that at all.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think you would if you hadn't seen
- 22:46Speaker 2: season one because I don't want. Yeah, I don't think
- 22:48Speaker 2: it's as heavy handed this season unless you're caring over
- 22:51Speaker 2: those feelings.
- 22:52Speaker 3: Yeah, that does make sense though, because it doesn't seem
- 22:55Speaker 3: like her, is it, Dudley, I don't.
- 22:58Speaker 1: I mean, they don't seem like endgame.
- 22:59Speaker 3: No randomb boyfriend. Yeah, in this a couple of times,
- 23:05Speaker 3: like they're not making it seem like he's endgame or anything.
- 23:07Speaker 1: He's just for sure, random character. Okay.
- 23:10Speaker 2: Yeah, the nickname dud is not accidental.
- 23:12Speaker 3: Yeah, it feels like that. I was like, Okay, I'm good,
- 23:15Speaker 3: I'm good with this guy.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Well, let's talk about what we wished for in this episode.
- 23:22Speaker 3: Okay, I have one thing, and then I also have
- 23:26Speaker 3: one that's kind of a question for you, because I
- 23:28Speaker 3: have a feeling it just needs some like answers from
- 23:31Speaker 3: last season number one. I wish that they wouldn't have
- 23:34Speaker 3: cut scene so quickly after Clayton comes in and says
- 23:39Speaker 3: like I'm your daddy or I'm your dad, and then
- 23:41Speaker 3: it just cuts scene and then it like goes to
- 23:43Speaker 3: a couple of other random scenes and then comes back,
- 23:45Speaker 3: and then it cuts scene again and then comes back.
- 23:47Speaker 3: I wish they would have just made that like a
- 23:49Speaker 3: really emotional sit down. I'm meeting my dad for the
- 23:52Speaker 3: first time. I've been waiting for him for thirty something years.
- 23:54Speaker 3: Let's have like, let's sit let's have a conversation, let's
- 23:57Speaker 3: work through the awkwardness like I just thought I would.
- 24:00Speaker 3: It was an opportunity for like a really emotional, heartfelt moment,
- 24:03Speaker 3: and it was chopped into like four different scenes, split
- 24:07Speaker 3: in like you know, split in between other scenes. So
- 24:09Speaker 3: that was one wish that I have and I do
- 24:13Speaker 3: feel like that was a missed opportunity to kind of
- 24:14Speaker 3: tell get our heart strings a little bit more.
- 24:17Speaker 1: What do you think about that? Did you notice that
- 24:18Speaker 1: at all? Well?
- 24:19Speaker 2: I think it's a great point because I think the
- 24:21Speaker 2: most awkward is like how do we get from like
- 24:23Speaker 2: I'm your daddy too. We're sitting in a booth together, like, yes,
- 24:26Speaker 2: there are moments there that they could have played up
- 24:28Speaker 2: to make us this is awkward, whether or not this
- 24:31Speaker 2: is what may wanted. There's feelings here, there's emotions here. Yeah,
- 24:36Speaker 2: let's see that play out. Because I honestly felt the
- 24:40Speaker 2: whole time I was like, it feels too easy. That's
- 24:42Speaker 2: what I felt about that scene. Like he comes in, yes,
- 24:45Speaker 2: he's like, I'm your daddy, and she sits down and
- 24:47Speaker 2: talks to him and I back to my like where
- 24:50Speaker 2: have you been all this time? I really wonder if
- 24:53Speaker 2: that's going to come into play because she just she
- 24:55Speaker 2: was just so happy to hear all of these things
- 24:59Speaker 2: from him and I I can understand that because this
- 25:01Speaker 2: is a big missing piece in her life. But I
- 25:04Speaker 2: felt like it is a little too easy.
- 25:07Speaker 3: Yes, it was so like, oh, okay, sit down, let's
- 25:09Speaker 3: have a nice tea, Like let's check yeah, And I
- 25:11Speaker 3: just was like I almost just wish they would have
- 25:14Speaker 3: leaned into like the tension and the awkwardness and the
- 25:17Speaker 3: unknown and just like showed us how that plays out,
- 25:21Speaker 3: because that's like a real thing that happens for people
- 25:22Speaker 3: in real life and you know, similar types of situations,
- 25:26Speaker 3: and I would have loved for that to be like
- 25:29Speaker 3: kind of like the epicenter of the episode a lot,
- 25:33Speaker 3: and instead, I feel like it was just like chopped
- 25:35Speaker 3: into three or four different random scenes throughout. So I
- 25:39Speaker 3: feel like that was a missed opportunity. But the second is,
- 25:43Speaker 3: this is something I was a little confused about. The
- 25:46Speaker 3: pastor and I don't know his name and Nancy are dating,
- 25:51Speaker 3: and then there's like a situation with a trip and
- 25:53Speaker 3: then she decides not to go.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Correct it's unclear to me if that decision has been made.
- 25:59Speaker 2: It feels like she's questioning that decision because at the
- 26:02Speaker 2: end of the episode, we see her looking back on
- 26:04Speaker 2: her pageant photo album and she still has it's either
- 26:10Speaker 2: plane or train tickets to Washington, d C. Like I
- 26:12Speaker 2: paused those say like nineteen eighty on them, Like those
- 26:15Speaker 2: are her old okay tickets, I mean obviously, because nobody
- 26:19Speaker 2: has a paper ticket anymore anyway. So I think she
- 26:22Speaker 2: didn't go to Washington, d C. Because her husband didn't
- 26:25Speaker 2: want her to. And now I think she's I don't
- 26:27Speaker 2: think she's made the decision, but I think she's like, wait,
- 26:31Speaker 2: he's not even telling her where they're going or what
- 26:32Speaker 2: they're doing. He's just saying, I want you along with me.
- 26:35Speaker 2: I want you to support me. Basically, I want you
- 26:37Speaker 2: to be like the little lady. And she's like, wait,
- 26:39Speaker 2: I've done this my entire life.
- 26:41Speaker 1: I've done that role. Yeah, and she's getting this.
- 26:44Speaker 2: She's like, I got this opportunity to fix this dang
- 26:47Speaker 2: train arm. Yeah, I have I can make a difference.
- 26:50Speaker 2: I have some power now. So I hope she makes
- 26:54Speaker 2: that choice.
- 26:55Speaker 3: Okay, Okay, I was unclear on that, but I'm glad
- 26:58Speaker 3: it sounds like I'm not the only one because I
- 27:00Speaker 3: was like, wait, did she decide?
- 27:01Speaker 1: Did she not do we like this pastor?
- 27:05Speaker 2: This seems fine, he seems fine. It was nice that
- 27:08Speaker 2: Nancy has someone who, you know, seems like a good guy,
- 27:11Speaker 2: but is maybe not good enough for her. Okay, Yeah,
- 27:15Speaker 2: And I think it would be a real disservice for
- 27:17Speaker 2: us to lose Nancy for part of this season, although
- 27:22Speaker 2: I don't think she would, you know, And I'm thinking
- 27:24Speaker 2: time wise, like we're building up to May's wedding, which
- 27:26Speaker 2: is not that far away, so you know, I don't
- 27:28Speaker 2: think time wise, maybe it could be after that maybe
- 27:32Speaker 2: it could be a season long decision that she's making,
- 27:35Speaker 2: Like maybe they're supposed to be after the wedding. It's
- 27:37Speaker 2: that's a little unclear to me, But I don't, you know,
- 27:41Speaker 2: she and Gus are in such a good place. I
- 27:42Speaker 2: think it would be it would break Gus's heart. You
- 27:45Speaker 2: saw it a little bit how she was like, wait,
- 27:47Speaker 2: you're gonna leave?
- 27:49Speaker 3: Yeah, like I just got my friend, you're already gonna leave.
- 27:53Speaker 3: And there was a cute line. I don't remember what
- 27:56Speaker 3: it was, but there was like a cute line there. Yeah,
- 27:59Speaker 3: just kind of like hinting at that friendship and her
- 28:01Speaker 3: struggling with her the idea of her friend leaving for
- 28:04Speaker 3: so long. So those are the two I wrote down.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Some wishes I have. Where the heck is Jake Foy.
- 28:11Speaker 2: He was such a fun addition to season one. He
- 28:14Speaker 2: has not been here. His partner Patrick is there. I
- 28:16Speaker 2: mentioned he was visiting a sister. I hope he comes
- 28:19Speaker 2: back for the wedding. It's just such a bummer. I
- 28:21Speaker 2: really like him. He's not in this season. I'm sure
- 28:24Speaker 2: he was off doing something else. That's the only explanation.
- 28:29Speaker 2: I would like to know who a man's daddy is
- 28:31Speaker 2: this is not a storyline we seem to have touched on.
- 28:34Speaker 2: I actually went through. I didn't remember it at all.
- 28:36Speaker 2: I like searched the transcripts of our old episodes to
- 28:39Speaker 2: see if we discussed it. I read the synopsis on
- 28:41Speaker 2: the Hallmark website of season one.
- 28:43Speaker 1: I don't think they've touched it.
- 28:44Speaker 2: If they have, please email us girls Gone Hallmark at
- 28:46Speaker 2: gmail dot com and let me know. I even message
- 28:50Speaker 2: someone else who's watched the show.
- 28:51Speaker 1: I was like, do we know anything?
- 28:53Speaker 2: Gus mentions it very briefly, kind of like snidely, like,
- 28:57Speaker 2: oh that was a man is daddy? Are we going
- 28:59Speaker 2: to get that revealed? It's interesting that Amanda doesn't seem
- 29:01Speaker 2: to care that it hasn't come up again. There's a
- 29:03Speaker 2: lot going on. Maybe she just has too much and
- 29:06Speaker 2: that's not on her radar right now. To your point,
- 29:11Speaker 2: I hope Nancy doesn't leave. That was one of my wishes,
- 29:13Speaker 2: like let the pastor go, Nancy needs to choose Nancy.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Yes, that's what it feels like.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and honestly, I want to my notes say
- 29:23Speaker 2: I kind of hate the writer's editor director for making
- 29:26Speaker 2: me like that. Frankie and Dudley kiss not that I
- 29:28Speaker 2: liked it, but Frankie seemed happy about it, and I
- 29:32Speaker 2: really wanted it to be more of like a nothing
- 29:34Speaker 2: burger where she was like, oh that wasn't Yeah, she
- 29:37Speaker 2: seemed happy enough about it, and I didn't really you know,
- 29:41Speaker 2: like you said, Dudley is not her end game, so
- 29:44Speaker 2: he doesn't seem like no, there's no way, there's no
- 29:47Speaker 2: way these you know, Frankie's one of the women of
- 29:51Speaker 2: Marynak and she needs more.
- 29:54Speaker 1: She needs more. Yeah, I think so too.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Do you have any digit see that moments to talk about?
- 30:01Speaker 1: Okay, let's see I wrote down.
- 30:04Speaker 3: Oh, it's the same joke that you already said, which
- 30:07Speaker 3: I just thought was super cute, where she's getting ready
- 30:10Speaker 3: for her date with her daughter sitting there. Franki's sitting
- 30:13Speaker 3: there and she's like, you can't wear that. It looks
- 30:15Speaker 3: like you still have a landline phone. And then Amanda
- 30:17Speaker 3: holds up a different dress and she's like, well, I
- 30:20Speaker 3: can't wear that, and she's like, okay, Well then you
- 30:22Speaker 3: go ahead and show up looking like a pilgrim.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I thought it was like you mother daughter banter.
- 30:29Speaker 1: I love when Hallmark just like throws in little jokes
- 30:31Speaker 1: like that.
- 30:32Speaker 3: And then also when the sheriff like at the end
- 30:34Speaker 3: of their he has to like leave mid date and
- 30:37Speaker 3: he like gives her a fist bump and he's like, yeah,
- 30:39Speaker 3: send me a venmo.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Yeah. I'm like, oh gosh, just eye roll there.
- 30:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that was terrible, Like so cung. He had the
- 30:48Speaker 2: emergency call queued up right, he was like, call me
- 30:51Speaker 2: thirty minutes in so I can bail bat for sure,
- 30:54Speaker 2: tell me I.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Have an emergency. I'm like, nah, you don't come on.
- 30:58Speaker 2: And it was so frustrating because he had pressured her
- 31:01Speaker 2: to go out with him. He was like, I don't understand.
- 31:02Speaker 2: The beginning of the episode, He's like, why won't you
- 31:04Speaker 2: go out with me? And I was like, well, red flag,
- 31:05Speaker 2: Like no, is.
- 31:07Speaker 1: This complete failed? Like do we know? Because she was
- 31:11Speaker 1: it was.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Her first day and she was processing. You know, she
- 31:14Speaker 2: couldn't stop talking about her past as is to be expected.
- 31:18Speaker 2: I mean, I guess you know she knew she wasn't
- 31:20Speaker 2: ready for this, and yep, everybody pushed her into it. Yeah.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Kind of a bummer that Sheriff Laurence sucked so much
- 31:27Speaker 2: in that moment.
- 31:29Speaker 1: You nails on her. She's like it's been so hard
- 31:32Speaker 1: as a mom and working through, you know, working through
- 31:34Speaker 1: the divorce papers and all of this work and I
- 31:37Speaker 1: and then he's just like, oh, yeah, sorry, I gotta
- 31:39Speaker 1: go fistbump venmo me. I'm like, oh goodness, okay, yeah, it.
- 31:44Speaker 2: Doesn't even pay, says By send me a Venmo request
- 31:47Speaker 2: to come on. So you mentioned this earlier, said, I
- 31:52Speaker 2: don't know the pastor's name. They say it's Bo in
- 31:55Speaker 2: this episode, and I have in my digity that I
- 31:57Speaker 2: think that's the first time we've heard his name. I
- 31:58Speaker 2: could be wrong, but in thirteen episodes, I have never
- 32:03Speaker 2: internalized his name. So I do believe it is Bo.
- 32:07Speaker 1: Okay, it is Bo.
- 32:08Speaker 2: I do believe we just learned that. The other thing
- 32:11Speaker 2: is Amanda says she's talking like she's like, I haven't
- 32:14Speaker 2: been on a date. She's like, my last date was
- 32:15Speaker 2: with frank Junior when he took me to the Dairy
- 32:17Speaker 2: Queen seventeen years ago. The math doesn't add up for me,
- 32:21Speaker 2: Like Frankie has got to be seventeen. She's at least
- 32:23Speaker 2: she's leaving for college soon. I mean, even if she
- 32:26Speaker 2: got pregnant on their first date, which I don't suspect.
- 32:29Speaker 1: That she did.
- 32:29Speaker 2: I'm like, the timing make it nineteen years ago, Like
- 32:33Speaker 2: the diving isn't adding.
- 32:34Speaker 3: Up for me?
- 32:35Speaker 1: Yeah, the math didn't totally work on that one.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Now, all right, we have answered a lot of your
- 32:41Speaker 2: fresh eyes questions. But are there any other questions things
- 32:44Speaker 2: that don't add up for you as a newer watcher?
- 32:47Speaker 1: Well, yes, a few things. I think we've touched on
- 32:50Speaker 1: a few of them already.
- 32:51Speaker 3: Okay, as I was watching season two and we've already
- 32:54Speaker 3: kind of touched on this. I do think it's important
- 32:57Speaker 3: to watch season one to fully understand what's happening in here.
- 33:02Speaker 3: I was honestly so confused, like multiple times, and you're
- 33:04Speaker 3: like trying to figure out who's who, Like who's daughter
- 33:07Speaker 3: is that?
- 33:08Speaker 1: Yeah, who's dating who? Who's getting married?
- 33:10Speaker 3: So I do think I mean, you could say that
- 33:12Speaker 3: about any show, right, Like, of course it's going to
- 33:14Speaker 3: help to watch season one. But I think because there's
- 33:16Speaker 3: so many characters, so many subplots, and just so much happening,
- 33:22Speaker 3: like a lot of like flashbacks and then you're like
- 33:24Speaker 3: present and past.
- 33:25Speaker 1: There's just a lot going on. I think this you
- 33:29Speaker 1: have to watch season one.
- 33:30Speaker 3: I think it's pretty crucial so that's more of just
- 33:33Speaker 3: like a comment I have. I also didn't know who
- 33:36Speaker 3: I was like supposed to be rooting for, like like
- 33:39Speaker 3: Frank Junior. Right, this is like the first time I'm
- 33:41Speaker 3: seeing him, so I'm like, okay, yes, so he does
- 33:43Speaker 3: he sucks? Like I was like, we're not rooting for
- 33:46Speaker 3: this guy, right, Like he's so annoying and he seems
- 33:49Speaker 3: like he's not a good guy.
- 33:51Speaker 1: But if you don't watch season one, you're not going
- 33:52Speaker 1: to pick up on that. So I was kind of like, wait,
- 33:54Speaker 1: who are we rooting for? Even Gus, I was like,
- 33:57Speaker 1: is she like, is it okay that she seems like
- 33:59Speaker 1: really cold and disconnected and like doesn't seem super loving. Again,
- 34:04Speaker 1: this is more just me brain dumping, but I love it.
- 34:07Speaker 3: It's crucial or you're gonna be really really confused. Okay,
- 34:11Speaker 3: we talked about Frank Junior signing divorce papers. Oh, Gus,
- 34:15Speaker 3: I would love to understand like her background, like has
- 34:18Speaker 3: she always been single?
- 34:20Speaker 1: Do we know? I mean you kind of just said
- 34:22Speaker 1: we don't know who Amanda's dad was. Now we know
- 34:24Speaker 1: who May's dad was. Yeah, And one was she single?
- 34:28Speaker 1: Has she ever been married?
- 34:29Speaker 2: She was definitely single in season one.
- 34:32Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 34:34Speaker 2: I don't get the impression Amanda's dad was in their life.
- 34:36Speaker 2: The season one flashbacks we see of their childhood were
- 34:39Speaker 2: of a very chaotic childhood of may As the older sister,
- 34:42Speaker 2: really taking care of Amanda, of kind of doing what
- 34:45Speaker 2: she could to shield Amanda from her mother's shortcomings. So
- 34:50Speaker 2: it wasn't like they grew up in a two parent household. Okay,
- 34:54Speaker 2: she and I think that's you know, Gus had Clayton,
- 34:57Speaker 2: who now we know left her, and Amanda's dad who
- 35:01Speaker 2: did something we don't know what caused him to leave.
- 35:05Speaker 2: So she's distrustful of men. She has not had great
- 35:09Speaker 2: experiences with men, and so she was very not only single,
- 35:12Speaker 2: but incredibly solitary. In season one, you know, she was
- 35:16Speaker 2: living in a hoarding situation. That's the whole thing with
- 35:18Speaker 2: season one, Like she wouldn't let Amanda in because her
- 35:21Speaker 2: house was packed to the gills. That comes out as
- 35:25Speaker 2: a result of the show. The whole town steps in
- 35:27Speaker 2: to help her solve the problem, and then she ends up.
- 35:29Speaker 2: That's that iconic scene of her burning the house to
- 35:32Speaker 2: the ground. She's like, this isn't salvageable. We need to
- 35:34Speaker 2: start over, which leads her to moving into with Nancy.
- 35:38Speaker 3: Okay, Okay, I appreciate the background there because she's a
- 35:43Speaker 3: complicated character. She is like, she's got some layers to
- 35:46Speaker 3: her character, and I wasn't sure with the romantic situation
- 35:49Speaker 3: what that looked like. Okay, last I guess let's see.
- 35:54Speaker 3: Last question I think I have is actually I have
- 35:57Speaker 3: two mores. Sorry, I'll be quick.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Don't fiance. Do we like him?
- 36:01Speaker 2: Yeah, he's great. He wasn't even in this episode.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Was he wasn't in the episode? So I was like,
- 36:07Speaker 1: we like him? Who is this guy? Okay, yeah, he's great.
- 36:09Speaker 2: He's in He's in the first season, but we don't
- 36:10Speaker 2: see him a lot. But May has basically lied to
- 36:12Speaker 2: him in the first season about her past. You know,
- 36:16Speaker 2: he doesn't know that she's from this small town and
- 36:20Speaker 2: she doesn't want him to know. She doesn't want him
- 36:22Speaker 2: to know like the kind of life that she led,
- 36:25Speaker 2: the way that she grew up, and she keeps out
- 36:27Speaker 2: all from him. He shows up at the end and
- 36:29Speaker 2: he was like, I love small town life. This is great,
- 36:32Speaker 2: Like this is who you are. He's like super great
- 36:35Speaker 2: and super supportive. You know, he's in Providence Falls he's Magnets.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Oh that's great.
- 36:41Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, I forgot about that, okay because I watched
- 36:45Speaker 3: episode one and two before I watched threes like fully confused. Yeah, okay,
- 36:51Speaker 3: it's Magnus from Providence Falls.
- 36:52Speaker 1: Yeah, love that. Okay. Last question, what is the deal
- 36:56Speaker 1: with the clockery?
- 36:58Speaker 3: Like why is Frank Junior like making like on his own,
- 37:01Speaker 3: making his chicken.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Yeah. So the first season it was kitchen clash, so
- 37:05Speaker 2: that it was Franny's versus Mimi's were the two chicken restaurants.
- 37:09Speaker 2: Franny's is, you know, Frank Junior and Nancy and Amanda
- 37:11Speaker 2: worked there and Mimi was Gus and then May came
- 37:13Speaker 2: into town to help out, came in from New York
- 37:16Speaker 2: to help out her mom. One of the judges was
- 37:20Speaker 2: this guy, mister Chicken, who's Christian, who's like the toxic
- 37:24Speaker 2: dude bro that you saw in the first two seasons,
- 37:26Speaker 2: like there's no crying in your contract. Yeah, he kind
- 37:30Speaker 2: of gets his claws into Frank Junior and that's where
- 37:32Speaker 2: Frank Junior starts like trying to be a little tougher.
- 37:37Speaker 2: Cut to the finale, basically they all jump ship and
- 37:43Speaker 2: Frank Junior is on his own and everyone is Team Mimes,
- 37:48Speaker 2: and so Frank Junior wins on his own because Christian
- 37:52Speaker 2: rigged the contest. Serena quits on set. Frank Junior takes
- 37:56Speaker 2: the prize money. This is confluted. So anyway, Frank Junter
- 38:00Speaker 2: takes the prize money and Christian Mister Chicken, is like,
- 38:05Speaker 2: We're going to open this new franchise restaurant just out
- 38:08Speaker 2: of town. Incomes Shauna, who wasn't in this episode, but
- 38:12Speaker 2: she was strongly in the first episodes, and she was like, y'all,
- 38:14Speaker 2: I'm rich, I'm gonna invest in a franchise. We're going
- 38:16Speaker 2: to franchise the Chicken Sisters. We're gonna save everything. And
- 38:19Speaker 2: so now it's not Franny's a memeis it's two Chicken
- 38:22Speaker 2: Sisters restaurants, which is a little bit confusing because there
- 38:26Speaker 2: is a comment in this episode. They're like, oh, we
- 38:28Speaker 2: learned all along that they were using the same recipe,
- 38:30Speaker 2: and I was like, when did we learn that? Like
- 38:32Speaker 2: the whole point was that they were different restaurants with
- 38:35Speaker 2: different recipes. Anyway, huh, Frank now runs this franchise, the
- 38:40Speaker 2: Clockery out of town. It's cold, it's dark, the food
- 38:43Speaker 2: is terrible. He is starting to realize how terrible it is.
- 38:48Speaker 2: And all the women and Sergio are running the two
- 38:52Speaker 2: Chicken Sisters restaurants in town.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Okay, very helpful, thank you for that. I will play
- 38:57Speaker 1: why are there's so many chicken restaurants? Yes, running which one? Okay,
- 39:02Speaker 1: there are.
- 39:03Speaker 2: It is a little weird because I was like, how
- 39:05Speaker 2: are we running two Chicken Sisters restaurants in town? I
- 39:08Speaker 2: think that's where the season has been a little bit
- 39:10Speaker 2: like what's going. It's a little bit odd to me
- 39:13Speaker 2: that it's happening. But they're all on the same team,
- 39:15Speaker 2: and they kind.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Of two separate restaurants.
- 39:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's Franny's and Mimi's, but they're now both Chicken Sisters. Okay,
- 39:22Speaker 2: two separate locations. And they make a comment because there's
- 39:25Speaker 2: no franchises allowed in town. I think that's the rule.
- 39:30Speaker 2: That's why the clockery is right outside of town. They're like, oh,
- 39:32Speaker 2: we got special permission from the mayor to have this
- 39:34Speaker 2: franchise in town, so we have two locations. I don't
- 39:37Speaker 2: understand how this town is big enough to.
- 39:39Speaker 1: Support to locate but identical chicken restaurants.
- 39:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, are so'sd Anyway, that's that do you have
- 39:48Speaker 2: a feathered friend of the week? Who did you love
- 39:51Speaker 2: this week?
- 39:53Speaker 3: I wrote down to number one Sergio, just because I'm
- 39:56Speaker 3: excited to see where that relationship goes, and he seems
- 39:58Speaker 3: just like a really sweet, supportive guy. And then number
- 40:01Speaker 3: two is Clayton. We haven't seen a ton of him,
- 40:04Speaker 3: but I'm just I'm just curious, like, what are.
- 40:07Speaker 1: They gonna do with this character.
- 40:08Speaker 3: Is there gonna be a romance with Gus, Is there
- 40:10Speaker 3: just gonna be like a really sweet relationship with Mey.
- 40:12Speaker 3: Maybe he's a bad guy, maybe he's a good guy.
- 40:14Speaker 3: I'm just like really curious.
- 40:16Speaker 1: To see how that unfolds. So those were my two.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Mine this week is Amanda. She is pushing outside of
- 40:22Speaker 2: her comfort zone. She has a nice connection with Sergio,
- 40:26Speaker 2: and I liked there's nice parallel editing at the end
- 40:28Speaker 2: of this episode with her hugging Sergio goodbye Frankie getting
- 40:31Speaker 2: her first kiss, like kind of neither of them is
- 40:34Speaker 2: getting what they want in that moment. I really liked that.
- 40:37Speaker 1: And Amanda had kind of has kind of.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Had a tumultuous start to this season with her being
- 40:43Speaker 2: outed on the premiere, so I feel like she's starting
- 40:48Speaker 2: to come into her own a little bit.
- 40:52Speaker 1: I totally agree. She was great.
- 40:54Speaker 2: Well, Sidney, thank you so much for being here today.
- 40:58Speaker 2: Why don't you tell her everybody where they can find
- 41:01Speaker 2: you outside of the podcast.
